All right, beautiful.
We're here live for Get the puck out and we have a very special guest today.
Coming on, We have Doug McClain will be coming.
He's the King was obviously the general manager and president of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Ah, guy who had was the head coach in Florida when they went with the expansion Panthers that went to the Stanley Cup final and lost a Patrick O on the Colorado Avalanche.
Now, McLovin, are we gonna be able to fit Mr McClain in on the screen properly? Because you look like you don't know.
No, it will be. I'll be there.
They'll be good at all for that. Nice.
Maybe moving around a little, make sure that everybody sees Mr uh Mr Dougie Mac Here, give me one second.
We're going to now head over and or on.
Just got a copy and paste this soon.
Like from blocking him when the glove.
And can you just hold on? Never mind.
You sure? Oh, go. Copy.
He claimed Yeah, help will be fine.
So let us know when he's coming in because it will have to ask you, Everybody will see it.
It's gonna pop up saying he wants to come in.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
Everybody's going to see a That's actually hilarious.
I'm gonna share this on Facebook to I just did properly.
Brother tried to call me as I was setting this up.
I was like, Not now Doug McClain's coming.
Yeah, Carl, it's sitting right at the door right now.
He wants to get in on the Doug McClain interview.
He's got some questions.
Oh, yeah, something's good luck enticing.
Very 100% is gonna become official while we're on stream.
That's good news guarantee.
In that last night, I could not believe that.
All right, sweet, sweet.
I sent that through.
So he'll be getting that.
We're just waiting on John MacLean to come.
We'll start the episode here.
Guys, I wanna let everybody know that you could go on over for all things talking. After this is done.
Two types. I'll talk.
Uh, we're keeping everything right up to the minute.
Here we have Tyson Barrie on his way to the Edmonton Oilers.
That's a pretty good move, I think for the Oilers, they need toe.
Obviously surround Connor McDavid's with players that can play and Tyson very well.
It wasn't a good fit in in the Eastern Conference.
Playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs seems to be, uh, maybe he'll be able to find his way playing that Western Conference style hockey and on a great team, obviously surrounded by great young players.
I think that's a very low risk.
High reward you? Yeah, it's it's gonna be a one year prove it deal and enticing very did struggle in Toronto.
But if you look at his seasons before that, he was a fantastic offensive defenseman.
Maybe he's able to reignite in a different position.
I mean, it was tough with that Toronto deke or for him to look good.
Maybe he goes to Edmonton, he gets to play with Connor McDavid's and we own dry Seidel.
And maybe that sparks his career.
And maybe he gets a big deal next offseason.
But it's gonna be a one year prove it deal in Addington, and I think that's gonna be good for both sides.
I think it's gonna be good for Edmonton that looks to win the Stanley Cup this year and contend, And it's gonna be good for the player because he gets to prove that he can go out and earn those big bucks next offseason.
Yeah, absolutely, Man, I think that's a great contract here. McLovin.
I'm Doug. Yet he had nothing yet.
Nothing that we're waiting on P.
I's favorite son.
Doug McClain's Mr P.
I drafted out of McQuaid to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who had a great career with the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup.
Uh, loves, uh, you know who else? He's a huge fan of from his time in Columbus.
Big Sean Coralie guy.
He's he's been watching like Sean Carroll.
He was making noise like when he was in Columbus at, like, 78 years old.
So he's known him like since that so loves John Kerala.
To remembers him as a kid would be when he was in Columbus.
System comes manager there.
We're gonna now see you down there at the bottom.
Yeah, you could see the quest having come here.
Can I open? Hey, Dad, can you hear me? Just wait.
You're hearing wealth.
He's connecting the audio.
How's it going? Good, man.
Are you good? But it good.
We're live here on Get the **** out.
Doug McClain is dropping by the former president, general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets and been in hockey for longer than some of even our producer.
McLovin here has probably been alive.
And Doug, first off, this hasn't been your first rodeo.
What do you make of the offseason during this pandemic? Now, as as opposed to other offseason in the past.
Well, you know what? It it was pretty similar.
I think the difference is that dollars were a lot cheaper.
You know, we didn't seem to have the same amount of money, so that that's sort of threw it off for a little bit, you know? But then, you know, we're gonna see some big dollars.
We're going to see Petro Angelo signed for a ton of money.
We're gonna see Hall probably gets, um, pretty good dollars.
And, you know, we saw Markstrom hit a home run with flames, so, you know, a shorter term, not as much money, but overall, it was pretty good.
You see, some guys like I just saw Craig Smith signed with Boston today.
And in Nashville, he was making, I think, 4.
He ends up signing for 3.
1 guy who can usually put, you know, 20 goals in the net a season.
I mean, yeah, just a pandemic in the flat cap.
Obviously affected things there.
Now you brought up Alex. Petra, Angela.
It turns out that he, uh, now is gonna be going and meeting with the Vegas Golden Knights.
I didn't think we would see any of that in the coronavirus times.
Are you surprised by that? Well, you know, obviously the private jet is there picking them up in ST Louis and taking in Vegas.
I mean, look, I think he will sign in Vegas.
I think there's some stalling going on here.
I think there's a little nervousness off charges that they gonna play it out a little bit and make it look like he's really looking around.
I really believe he ends up in Vegas.
I think they'd still like to move a little money.
They were able to move, stashed his money to Winnipeg, which was a big, you know, 6.
5 off their books, and I think they would like to move.
You know, Martinez or in Schultz Toe really free up the money to give them a chance.
So I expect him to sign their I have for a few, uh, probably a week or so It looked that way when he turned down the eight times 8.
64 million with the blue.
So doesn't surprise me, but I think they're trying to temper it a little bit so that maybe it doesn't look like there was tampering.
And who knows? I don't know if there waas, but I know there's some people that are not very happy, uh, with what's been going on.
That started to percolate.
I saw that a couple of days ago, and it makes sense.
I mean that the whole time.
I mean, it's probably been the worst kept secret I've ever seen in Fridge and history.
Vegas is interest in Alex Pietrangelo.
So certainly they would be probably sounding the alarms if they signed him right away.
So maybe this is a way to do it.
Were you surprised that the Boston Bruins didn't bring back Torey Krug and he ends up in ST Louis.
Well, I was surprised because I kept hearing the Eckman Larsson conversation.
And I'm thinking, Why would you take Eckman Larsson in there at 8.
1 million? I know they Bruins would force him to take some money back.
I thought they would get.
I thought Krug was even.
I mean, he's been, ah, lifer there.
I thought he was a just a good alternative.
I know Eckman Larsson is a good player.
He hasn't shown enough to me the last couple of years.
Maybe it's playing in Arizona.
Maybe it's a disaster that's been going on there.
But look, uh, I ought to get crude done.
And then I read today say there was very little communication between the Bruins and his camp, so a little bit of a surprise.
But really, it was a shocker to me that he ended up going to ST Louis really was a big contract.
Big dollars, big term.
And, uh, that one caught me off guard.
To be quite honest, I was looking at maybe a Detroit I you know, I but ST Louis really did catch me off guard and it shows the blues Wanna wanna continue to win.
So that may have been the biggest shocker of the free agent See for me that he that he actually signed there? Yeah.
I mean, I think I caught all of us off off guard here.
And Jack, I know thes guys here from Boston.
Do they have a shot on Taylor? Hollered is the Craig Smith and that, You know, Craig Smith was kind of an interesting one to I mean, to me, he's a He's a third line guy.
That a bit of an off year.
Um, you know, I know.
They're probably not gonna bring Nordstrom back.
There's been some conversation.
He could go in a Hanifen deal, Uh, part of a Hanifen deal.
I've heard rumblings of that.
I don't know that that's accurate.
So Craig comes in as a winger, but I like Craig Smith.
He's gonna useful guy.
I mean, three million for three years at 30.
I mean, he's a good lower end guy.
Um, you can always use those guys, but I wouldnt caught me a little off guard to be quite honest.
Obviously, with a group there. Trees up a little money.
Um, you know, I would have thought they would have spent some money on their back End versus on Craig Smith, To be quite honest and where we don't know where the gold tenants going here.
Like, where is this? Go home with? Looks like Tuka seems welcome to come back on.
But look, who knows what Sweeney is gonna do? There's a lot of pressure to win there again.
Well, you you mentioned Martinez earlier of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Do you think he would be maybe a trade candidate for the Boston Bruins to bring on that back end? Look, I think here Schmidt would Smith, the great puck mover who also I like, um, Martinez is a good, solid guy.
A defensive guy.
Yeah, Both would be to me, good candidates for the Bruins or for for a lot of teams.
I mean, I mean, the leafs do the Brody thing.
I mean, I I like Brody, but he's I don't get that one.
I mean, I know always a skilled guy and always mean with your Daniel.
He was all right, but he didn't have a great year.
He's been in and out with injuries.
I don't know about that one.
And I maybe Schmidt or Martinez, who was played with Muslim, could have been a fit for the leaves.
But, um, you know what? Both would be a good fits in Boston, because if Ciara doesn't come back and now it's crew go out, they got to revamp that back in quite a bit.
Is there a chance that Ciara could go to other teams? I I heard that I think it was someone put on Twitter that, uh, multiple camps had reached out to him.
Is him playing somewhere other than Boston? An actual possibility? I don't see that I really don't unless unless the Bruins, you know, our aren't overly aggressive in getting them done.
I mean, I think it looks like he'd like to play another year.
And although what the Bruins players think of them quality guy, he still was a fact of last year.
I mean, I I cannot believe that he'd want to go to another place.
I really don't No, I can't see that either.
I think that Ah, little strange.
So Taylor Hall's probably holding up the rest of the forward market.
I think that, um, you know, we'll see what happens there.
What teams were in on Hall outside of I mean, I would read that the Bruins made a short term off the pitch.
I mean, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Who else is in kind of poking around Taylor Hall? Where do you see that every day? Well, look it to me.
It seemed that Columbus move out 11.
3 million there, you know, with moving out.
Murray, who was hurt most of the time when he played he was good but heard a lot.
They move out Anderson bringing in, uh, Domi, so that's a bit of a wash.
Their move out, not a vary, So they moved out 11.
Now there's two reasons for that one.
Protecting themselves and taste of blah.
Got an offer sheet from Montreal, probably, but also that they were going to take a run of the line and I that line it would be their number one priority.
Could they make a deal to get line? And I said it on the real Kipper noon show the other day, Like how do Winnipeg Ever contemplate a lion? A deal with Columbus? Unless it's Seth Jones through Lawrence Key going the other way.
And, you know, both have two years left.
Uh, Jones will be an unrestricted free agent, and I that is gonna be one tough guy to get resigned, in my opinion, I mean, I hope that Columbus could get him back, but he will go to the open market and they will be lined up for this guy.
So to me, it was lying a or, you know, a You know, our other guy here, the other sniper, the heart, former hurt trophy winner.
And you know, But they didn't jump on it.
So what's going on? Montreal have also sniffed around a little bit on him.
Um, you know what? To me.
He's got Taylor.
Hall's got Cem. Cem.
He's got some work to go here.
I mean, Edmonton not I mean, he was good in Evanston, but he left there.
He goes into jersey, wins the heart, and he stumbles.
Then he goes to Arizona, which I could never understand that deal.
I mean, I didn't know what Chaika was thinking about on that one, but I guess to get into class and now a tailor.
Does he take a shorter commute? I don't understand why Taylor Hall wouldn't try to do a deal with a contender like a Colorado or somebody like that.
That's a contender to give himself a chance to win a cup.
And even if he has to do a short term deal, it's not like money should be the issue.
So I'm gonna be really interesting to see what his term comes in at and and what the dollars really coming out on Taylor.
I would like to see him pick and choose a little more like Remember what Korea on Salon he did in Colorado, sort of pick and say, Hey, we're gonna go here because way Think we have a chance to win So it'll be interesting what Taylor does.
But those are the teams I've heard that Aaron expect.
The agents are always get a chocolate of all.
We're gonna go through the list today.
We're gonna break it down and move it around in the I don't know how many people are in on it, but I doubt if the list is a long as he says it is Yeah, exactly.
Well, see, because Taylor not because Taylor isn't a really good player, but it's like, Where's the money here? Who's got money toe to spend here? You know, of the legitimate contender.
So it'll be fun to watch.
Yeah, certainly will be fun.
It will certainly be crazy to watch.
There's a lot of moving parts still to go right now.
You brought up the TJ Brodie thing in Toronto.
Now they're over the cap right now.
That's the team that you know they have Still what Two defensive spots they have to fill? Uh, they have Mikheyev was an r f a.
Who's the other defendants during Dermot Dermot Cynara Fe Um Knee Lander Johnson.
What? Well, what are they gonna have to do to free up enough space here to put a competitive roster? Because when I look at their roster here over the limit, it's not that scary.
If you're a Boston and Tampa Bay, uh, even a Columbus Like who? You know, I was five games, but I thought Columbus could have beat them, and even last they had that one collapsed.
So Well, I'm scared to say anything because I put out last night.
Brody to Toronto.
And then I put out I didn't like the price.
And I had every crazy, motherly fan after me for the last 24 hours.
I mean, they were like it wasn't death threats, but it was It was not during the door.
And I'm making you idiots, like All I said is, I don't like the price.
I didn't say I hated Brody.
I don't I like Brodie.
I just don't think he's a great fit there. I know.
With Morgan Riley.
Okay, Maybe he's He's the last shot, but he can't.
But right side, he's done it with Giordano.
So he's a reasonable fit there.
I didn't like the five million.
I I just didn't like it.
But that's fine.
That doesn't mean I don't like Brody.
And I don't like Kyle.
I mean, but But I mean, leave me alone, you idiots.
Any eso anyway, you know what? Look, Brody, Barry, I'm hearing Barry is gonna is very close to sign in Edmonton for under $4 million.
So Barry comes there.
He was like, you know, knocking on the six million door.
We know the cadre deal.
They didn't resign him and he leaves and they bring in Brody.
I mean, I guess I'm saying five million for Brody under four for for Barry, Barry wasn't very good there.
But if you would have said a year ago, who's better? Barrier Brody.
Most people would have taken Barry now.
So you know what broadly comes in? I hope I hope you know that they're top four is where I still think they need a top right hand defenseman, a number two right hand defense, But I don't mind.
Brody is a number before.
I don't mind that, but they need to me a top right hand D and where they're going to get that, you know, they bring in, you know, the tough guy up front.
We all love them.
We all love them, but I'm telling you, he's going with about four teams the last couple of years.
It hasn't worked out anywhere, and I'm thinking who's just now? It's a million have is not the end of the world.
He doesn't look like you can keep up anymore.
Well, that's what scares me.
That's what scares me.
So you know what we'll see where that one goes.
But, you know, and all of a sudden, there, over the cap.
So what do they do? They got to get back.
I haven't Dermot sign.
You know, Can they figure that if they could be over 10% over the capital October So there.
Okay, let things sort of You know what? It doesn't look like they want to move any of their big four.
It looks like that.
And you know what? Kippy said it on real Kipper a couple of weeks ago, and he's been saying it for a year.
The various signing has really cost this organization a ton of money it had.
It costs more money for Matthews, more money for murder because of his ticket.
And, yeah, you know what? And we all love tomorrow.
We all love what he brought.
It was exciting, but it hasn't worked.
It hasn't worked, man yet.
When you see the Islanders, the Islanders are a team that look at how look at how far they've come since he's left.
I mean, both years that he's been gone, they've made it into the what? The second round of the playoffs this year was even further and and they're on the their.
Their bounced out in round zero in round one, respectively, in his time and and look.
And Lou tried to keep him.
Lulu worked hard to try.
Try to keep him on Long Island.
But look, there are a better team.
But that's not to me.
I don't blame that on John.
And I don't blame John for taking the money.
I don't blame him for wanting to go to Toronto and taking the money, but it's throwing their salary structure into disarray.
And, you know, then Marner wants more.
And Matthews wants more.
Yeah, you can't make Matthews, captain, so Yeah.
No, no, no. Yeah.
You've been getting fired up on riel.
Kip Rapamune, where Doug MacLean is always there.
Quickly before you go, uh, dog, I just want to say I love the podcast with you and Kipper.
It's awesome to hear you guys back on on dealing the information.
We appreciate you stopping by man and really appreciate it a lot.
No, look, it's always It's always great to get on with you guys, and no problem.
As a matter of fact, I wore my T shirt yesterday.
I mean, don't you don't just send me another one.
But I wore the other day, and people know what the hell is that? That's a famous podcast, that of Ontario.
Wherever you know.
By the way, I'm going to Niagara on the lake next week.
My wife and I are going to do a little winery tour up there.
I'm hoping we're on our way back to the States.
So we're stopping there for a couple of days and hope to see my buddy Jack Armstrong and Lewiston there.
So we're sort of heading that way, man.
Well, hey, listen, they're the best wineries there.
Maybe check out Gretzky Estates as well. Sure.
Have a great time there, buddy. Enjoy.
Have a safe trip back to the States, and we'll check in with you.
Probably when, uh when hockey is getting kicked back up again.
That should be What, January 1st? Yeah, it should be January 1st.
They say the first game is gonna be in Lake Louise.
So maybe we'll see you there.
All right, be there, but hope you're there.
Okay, but thanks, man.
All the best of the best guys take care.
Doug McClain, of Hockey Central at noon.
Former GM and president of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Always a pleasure when Dougie Mac comes by.
McLovin was a little quiet.
Maybe a little shy.
I was gonna ask him a question, but you kept jumping in front of me, and I'm like, All right, fine.
Take it to your show.
Yeah, I was gonna ask him about if these free agent signings you see a lot of short term deals.
Are they really getting in their heads of the expansion draft next year? I also wanted to ask him Mike Hoffman.
Question about Mancuso Just kept firing.
Does that? Does that surprise you? E happy trigger Happy E.
That was some good information, boy.
E enjoyed that, E.
I always got one question in.
I was so ready to I was like, I looked down and I saw the comment.
Mark, I'll bet the over under that McLovin doesn't say anything, and I was like, I'm going to say something.
I'm asking in Seattle.
And then Mancuso kept firing at him.
I'm like, I guess I'm gonna be quiet.
E Mark won that bet.
I got you that money should have been on my bookie dot a g.
There we go. Exactly.
Okay, but we're good here now, boys.
All right, beautiful.
Thanks, everybody for tuning in to get the puck out live. That was Doug McClain.
If you missed it came in late.
You could go over the types of hockey dot Net.
It's right on the god****.
