it's gonna show because it's gonna be a really loose show in terms of our agenda are game planning.
It's It's really, really just, um, us talking off the cuff.
We are gonna have a guess.
It's Aspen. Ladd.
One of the top Bannon waits in the world.
Um, she's rehabbing a knee injury she's about halfway through.
We talked to her coach yesterday, and he expects her in early 2021.
But we'll get her thoughts on her division and she can update us on her injury because obviously, attorney.
But look, um, the reason why this shows a little bit less structured than the other ones is because this might be our last show on Wednesday here, Wednesdays.
Here on SportsCastr, however, it doesn't mean that are run on SportsCastrs over.
As many of you know, we were already on this past Monday and we're gonna be on tomorrow, so we're kind of making this shift.
We're still sorting out a few details, but because it happened so quickly, we didn't want to just leave the Wednesday, uh, Wednesday people hanging, you know, because a lot of you for the last three or four months have kind of been accustomed to seeing us here on Wednesdays.
So we figured we do this show, and if we have to do one or two more, we'll do it that way.
The transfer from Wednesday's the Mondays and Thursdays go smoothly.
Or who knows, Maybe we might still wind up staying on Wednesdays.
Like I said, we're still crossing t's and dotting i's It all happened really, really fast.
So look, you don't have to twist our arms to talk.
So here we go, but goes before we get in the m m A.
Is that Dana White? Uh, no, it's e had an appointment for today, and I've canceled it probably three or four times, and I keep getting Hey, we're going to see you today.
And I think that was them.
Is that for the upper inner thigh rash that you got? All right.
Ah, for dentist.
More teeth getting yanked out.
Um, cleaning got you.
Well, before we get into Emma's, what I was saying How about the Lakers yesterday? They're up 31 there.
One game away from clinching at all The heat is on the heat is on the heat for sure.
After they got into 21 you know, Jimmy Butler was walking off the court feeling like, you know, a million bucks and look props to him.
He had, like, 40 points.
I know he had a triple double, but he had a t least I know the 40 points.
I don't know exactly how many rebounds and assists when you get to double digits.
You can count your chest all you want.
And I think the heat felt like, Hey we made of.
We may have figured something out here.
We can get it to to to We gotta Siri's and goes, Let me tell you something I remember once it was the heat I think had a 20 nothing lead on the Mavericks, and the Mavericks came back and beat him so to one, had me a little concerned.
But because the first two games were pretty clutch for us or not clutch but kind of like big wins, I don't know.
I felt like we just needed Thio do a tweak or two.
They got their game and then we might be able to come back and start putting the boot to their neck.
I'm not worried at all.
I was never worried.
Well, for one, they got a little banged up to in the process.
But I look for them to beat us.
They gotta give their best game every single time.
And I feel like we can beat them.
Not having the best effort always.
They're just a better team.
I'm in a weird situation right now because I'm a Laker fan.
I'm a Dodger fan and these Air two teams that one is already contending for a title, and the other one more than likely will be contending for a title.
Hopefully, and it just happens that happen on gears where the seasons cut short, it's a little weird.
I have a football team that I follow that's nameless, that they had a Super Bowl victory, you know, with during a strike season, and I never really bothered me, and it didn't really seem to bother very many people.
This one bothers me a little bit, but here's what I'm hoping for George right now or the blogger one bothers you.
The Dodger one is a little weird because here's what can happen.
The Astros were still in the playoffs, obviously, nor the Yankees.
So the Astros and the Yankees could meet up, and it could almost have a resolution toe What happened last year.
And if the Astros win that, then they could face us in the world.
The cheating scandal.
Yeah, it was like 23 years ago, isn't it? I was lost her last year.
The Astros beat the Dodgers.
Okay, so there could be a resolution on that side. Mhm.
And then if we face them, there could be somewhat of a resolution there, which I feel like if we win that World Series, we should get to two rings in that case.
But I don't know.
How do you feel about short seasons and all that stuff when you here's One thing about the Redskins is they've won three titles, but two of them have been in short seasons.
Did you know that in strikes seasons? So, yeah, two of them have been, but you got one that was, and so no one could say you only win them during strike shortened seasons.
You 11 properly.
The Lakers, they played like 3/4 of the season, suspended it and then came back and still finished almost the whole of the all of it.
And then they expanded the playoffs just to make sure no one got left out except the Sons.
And now they already played there.
You know, under the same cir***stances, everyone else, in fact, they gave up home games because there was no home games.
When you have one of the better records, you get those home games.
So the teams like Milwaukee and the Lakers.
They didn't get the advantage of four of them are at our crib, three or yours.
They were all in the bubble in Orlando, so I have no problem with the Lakers wins I have no problem with.
Well, LeBron came in, and one who ****ing cares.
Let me tell you something.
I saw Kuzma Brandon Ingram.
What was balls? Name his first name.
Not Lonzo Lonzo.
Right long, though a few other guys get drafted and we tried building the team, and these kids air Braddy and they get injured and they're soft.
And so we tried building the tree, the team properly and you know, this guy wanted to be a star and this guy didn't wanna play D.
And they're so young there, like 20 and 21.
I'm like, however you build a team, there's a salary cap.
You know what I mean? The other teams don't feel Jordan didn't feel bad when Rodman just showed up.
You know what I mean? His team was starting to deteriorate, deteriorate or a little bit, and they got Rodman and COO coach Good for them.
Um, that's just the way sports works.
Sometimes it works out that way.
Teams get loaded up.
I mean, I don't see anyone.
I don't see any warriors fan going.
I don't feel right about these two that we won.
What, there and **** it.
They're wearing their ****.
They can boast that They went back to back.
It's in the history books.
So it doesn't matter to me.
I we've drafted Lakers who turned out to be county players, you know? And so for LeBron to come over and I actually like LeBron and respect LeBron, I'm not I'm not his biggest fan or anything, but the stuff that he's done on and off the court, I totally respect.
He got a D over he you know, we still kept some of the young guys.
Those guys play D I'm in.
I have no problem with it As far as the baseball version of it, though.
From 162 games toe to 60 games, that's quite an abbreviated season.
But the Lakers sorry if the Dodgers were to win it after what happened with the Astros.
Um, again, I would not feel guilty about it at all.
Uh, I you know that that's just the hand that you were dealt.
Every single major league team was handed that handed that.
In fact, I think it was even more of a chance for the teams that are like they usually after 60 games, they might still be hanging in there and then all of a sudden, over 162 they get blown out of the water.
But I think it gave more of equal footing to everybody.
So, um, the Dodgers win rocket rock that hat rock that jersey, you know, that's just the way.
That's just the way life is.
Well, might be the reverse of this past weekend so far, because all of my teams got crushed over the weekend, but so far during the week, all my teams have won.
So we'll see, goes thesis.
Um, thing didn't sound right, so I looked it up.
I Googled your ass.
You can say, um, last year the Nationals beat the Astros, and the year before the Red Sox beat the Dodgers, it was when the Astros beat the Dodgers in 2017.
That was the cheating season.
Why am I so screwed up right now? I don't know, but yeah, Dodgers lost once to the Red Sox and once to the Astros.
But the Astros that that was the season, I believe that was in question.
Remember when the Astros were going to different stadiums? They were getting booed and stuff like that.
So I knew that there was mhm getting hit, getting hit, getting booed.
Yeah, but not last year.
The Nationals beat the Astros.
Um, anyway, okay, so let's let's get out of Laker land and other sports and get into some mixed martial arts.
And again we'll be joined by Aspen Ladd in about 20 minutes.
Actually, let me I just got a text with a gonna make sure okay. We're good.
Um, okay, there.
Here's one thing I wanted to get out of the way, and I'm just gonna do it now.
I've actually said it a few times.
Still can't get over Irene Aldonas.
And we talked about this with Max Griffin and welcoming Sterling.
They spotted the same thing I did.
And that was the fact that she just kept circling in a circle.
The everybody was joking around that she had a Fitbit.
She would have had five miles or whatever.
Um, she never elected to change the game plan.
She never elected to cut corners.
And I'm just wondering, all Don is going to take a lot of this blame.
But I'm wondering how all done is gonna feel about her coaches.
If the coaches were going to step up and take any of the blame.
Should they have said anything? I don't know.
That was one of the most frustrating fights to watch in a long time.
On the other end, Holly Holm, who I thought who at 38 this could be it.
It was not a factor at all.
Do you look great? She brain ****ed but at the same time, Holly looks so good that it's hard to take away from that performance.
But it just wasn't It wasn't the Arenal donna that we all know.
Like she just Something happened to her where she just ran into a wall and refused.
None of it really made any sense.
It really didn't.
It was a bad door.
It was the equivalent of watching the foot to return.
You're watching your Washington team on Sundays and on the first, the first down, you run it and you get a yard.
It's second and nine.
You might want to start thinking about passing it, but you're like, No, we're committed to the running game.
You run it again and its third and eight Are you gonna run it on third down? You're more than likely gonna pass it, right? E renal.
Donna was doing the equivalent of running it on third and a on 13.
10 on 30 and 15 And that, you know that if you were a fan in the stands, you'd be like, What the **** are you doing? Pass the **** ball! You'd be yelling at the coats.
The quarterback, the offensive coordinator.
Even if he's up there in the, you know, in the Sweets, you would be losing your mind.
And that's kind of how I felt a little bit because I wanted to see a quality main event.
These two young ladies, um, they were chosen perfectly.
You know, the veteran who's been there versus the streaking younger fighter, Um, and women's ever made don't often get things type of an opportunity to shine, especially in the Middle East, where women haven't been at the forefront of sporting events. So this was pretty historic.
And of course, I bet all Donna.
So you could imagine how I was just losing myself in seeing the same thing over and over 25 minutes.
You just kept chasing her around, moving to her left toe.
Avoid Holly's left, which is smart like like Max Griffin told us yesterday that ISS smart, you want to move away from the power hand, but you can't move away so far that you can deliver your power hand and you can't keep walking in Hollywood leader and leader and leader.
And then when, When Irene would kind of get close Hollywood, then Blitzer or throw some kicks.
It was, I don't know.
It looked like it was staged like by that.
I don't mean throwing the fight.
What I mean is what it looked like was Holly called Irene and said, Hey, look, I'm preparing for a fight.
I need you to mimic this fighter.
Will you do this? And that's what it looked like.
Like one of them was working with the other one.
But in reality, she just I don't know.
And then when she would get close enough to fire Hollywood, get off first, you know? And there was so many times where she was actually throwing her power hand, which is the right hand.
And she couldn't reach her because Holly was using great footwork and walking away from that, you know, and I don't understand how that didn't register for somebody.
I don't understand how that didn't register.
I want to go back and listen to the corner.
But really, it was just the same thing over and over and over.
And hell, at some point, that's almost got to be confusing toe Holly like at some point, she's probably like, What am I being lured into or what is going on here? How could the same thing that I'm doing over and over be working like this? It I feel like all Donna, I really hope this isn't one of those like things where you have to hire a mental coach and all that.
Like, I hope it was just kind of a brain part of a fight.
And she could get past it.
Um, Anyway, I'm sure I'll bring it up one more time, maybe with Aspen.
Or maybe she'll bring it up.
Who knows? I think this is a unique opportunity to have a different type of interview.
I wanna ask her how this unfolded in your head.
How are you playing this out? Because remember, Aspen, when she comes back, is a possible number one contender already.
They were gonna match her up against Holly home to get to that spot, but she got hurt.
So I want to see how she's feeling.
Like Is she relieved? Two contenders in Penna and all Donna are the way.
But at the same time, GDR and home might be matched up.
And could one of them steal home Shine are aspirin Lands shine, you know, are I don't know, because that's been even.
Want to take another fight before she gets to Nunes? Because Nunes is a beast.
There's no way around that one.
I mean, it all just depends on that knee, right? And how everything is coming along with that.
But she's, ah, younger fighter.
I mean, it just seems like that younger crowd can can get through some of these injuries a little easier than other people.
I could tell the last time we talked to her.
When there's no fighting, man, it just It just really seems like it made her feel a little different.
Eso Hopefully what I think needs to happen is I would love to see her get one more fight and then a title fight, because I always think it's tough to just off of an injury.
I think you have to get in there and figure out how does this all work again for me? Can I still do the same things that I normally dio? I don't think you could really gauge that in, uh, in practice, the way some fighters dio I know.
Dominant crews always comes at fighters saying ring.
Rust doesn't exist, but it just happens toe way too many people.
I think to say that I do believe what he says.
Like mentally. I think you could get past it.
But I think there is something to get past.
He can say it doesn't exist in his mind, but we've heard from plenty of fighters that it does exist.
Top name fighters, uh, lesser known fighters, but we've definitely heard It s so he just probably words it wrong.
But again, if he were to say, Look in my mind, then Hey, we're all ears dumb.
You're one of the best I ever do it.
If that's how you felt, we believe you.
But to say it just doesn't exist almost in a scolding man or how he does.
Sometimes the other fighters, it's like, No, bro, hang on a second.
You know, you gotta you gotta be fair.
And if you're in that spot to call fights and call it the way you see it, I'm sure you even he knows fighters that have gone through some sort of a ring rust.
Um, it takes a while now.
A lot of them can shake it out.
It only takes a couple minutes or even around, just to get that timing in the flow.
You're already in great shape.
It's not like you're not in great shape.
It's just the whole timing in a little.
But anyway, speaking of title fights, Hub, even Amalgamated office fighting just engaging October 24th, they have a sub on hand, and that's Michael Chandler, who doesn't have an opponent.
He's just gonna go.
He's training and he's gonna be ready to go in case one of those to be the deterred or doesn't make weight, UFC wants to make sure their undisputed champion and their interim champion, that this gets resolved and that there's a title fight of some sort.
Now we heard that Chandler was gonna possibly fight Tony, or that we even heard before that that Tony might fight por Yai.
So the USC was looking for some sort of an insurance because they knew this was big.
Remember, they went through something like this with Gilbert Burns and Jorge Mario came in to save the day, so that's what they wanted to avoid.
Late last night goes Dustin Poi tweeted eight and full and to me, That sounds like Okay, they met his demands.
But I don't think he's fighting Michael Chandler or at UFC 2 54.
I've kind of been waiting to see what that means or if he just knows they met his number.
And now they're going to present a fight for him sometime in November, December or even further than that.
But I was very, very happy with the guy.
I think that's what that means.
Because, yeah, that's that whole scenario is just too weird to me.
The only thing I can think of is is he said, this is what I want to get paid for.
No matter who they put in front of me and the U.
He said, Okay, now let's find you a fight right? Then this morning, before we went on, we came across another story.
This one's Tony Ferguson and this one I'm gonna read a little bit because I didn't get a chance to read it before the show started.
It came in at 11:50 a.m.
Eastern 8:50 a.m.
Pacific so literally before we started the show.
But the title is Tony Ferguson explains why UFC 2 54 fights versus play.
A Chandler fell through expletive.
You pay me so that's probably, Ah, playoff of Goodfellas.
The movie **** you pay me.
Remember that in the movie.
So I think that's what it waas three article says. 20.
Ferguson isn't happy with the way you see 2 54 negotiations transpired, um, at multiple news conferences throughout the recent months.
UFC President Dana White in Ferguson versus Dustin Ploy.
Wait, Dana White said Ferguson.
First Dustin play with Service, a co main event in the UFC lightweight title Unifier Under Habib and K G.
However, that fight never came to fruition.
In an interview on Tuesday with ESPN, Ferguson voices frustrations and revealed why the poi fight didn't happen.
This is these air Ferguson's quotes, he says.
I'm gonna be riel.
I don't think I don't know what their plans were before or after, but I was already ready.
I was already counting on it seriously.
I planned around it.
I'm not much of a planner, so I was already going ahead of it.
But then Dana wanted to speak for me.
He wanted to go out there and be like Now he's quoting Dana Tony is going to take this fight and, uh, Tony Tony then continues.
He says, like, bro, we're not friends.
I never said we were friends.
It's just business, right? I'm there when you need me.
And then obviously when you don't seriously, man, I'm a contractor.
I do my thing, I love him.
I love you have seen and stuff like that, but I'm just a piece of meat out there.
Do you know what I mean? When negotiation? That's the end of the quote there.
And then, he says.
When negotiations between Paula and the UFC went awry, former belt or lightweight champion Michael Chandler was inserted into the mix instead.
Ultimately, a fight against Chandler was not finalized because Ferguson was unhappy with being offered.
A You have seen newcomer foran.
Unsatisfactory amount of money, Ferguson says, goes the use.
Do you see Captain laying telling us the poi fight was confirmed? It was like the minute they asked, I'm still training for Dustin, but the Chandler thing now they're bringing in a new dude who I have no ****ing clue who is.
I'm not trying to **** on him.
It looks like they just keep writing expletive.
I'm inserting what I think he's saying from a marketing standpoint, but the dude has less than 100 K followers on Twitter.
You're going to try to get him more notoriety by throwing him against me and throw him on the cabin card.
I get that, but don't pay the expletive more than us.
Don't play the **** head more than us, mother****er.
He had zero time in the f.
I don't know about roids and all that stuff.
****, Tony, I don't get into all that **** with everybody.
What do you think so far goes? I mean, Tony is trying to make up for lost time.
That's the way he had so such a long period where he wasn't making money because of outside factors in the UFC that came back.
And I mean, that was a rough fight, But he did make a nice little paycheck, and I think he's trying to make up for all that last time.
But I thought I mean, I honestly think that that would have been a good fight for him to come back.
Thio He probably would have collected a nice paycheck.
But you know everybody.
Every fighter wants more money, and everything is so public when they get it.
I just think this is something that's going to keep happening and keep happening, and I think pretty soon we're going to go the way of boxing where it's just Every fight is starting to get re negotiate because it's happening anyway.
They sign these contracts, and these contracts don't seem to matter to them.
So it's kind of happening already, anyway.
But what about if you're gonna do this? This is one thing I always respected about jail Chelsea, either.
So over the top that it was obvious that he was concocting a plan or it was a stick or, you know what I mean? Like he was.
He had some sort of a game plan on what he wanted to say.
What kind of a story he wanted to tell.
Tony is dead serious.
Why does it matter that Chandler has 100,000 fans? And how could he say I have no clue who he is? Come on.
Um, they all know each other.
They all trained with other guys from other from other camp from their own camp That fight in other leagues.
That's I know he's a little bit isolated or whatever, but they know, you know, they know who each other is.
His main point was Look, just pay me.
You know, I get that part, but the whole other part the throwing shade.
But I'm pretty sure Tony doesn't like it when fighters throw shade again.
He said, I'm gonna remember you prefaced all this by saying I'm gonna be really here, bro.
Did you just Fraser, you stop talking.
I stopped talking.
That was a weird way to stop talking. Yeah.
I mean, I don't think it matters how many followers somebody has if you're gonna fight him, really? Just comes down to dollars and cents.
Um, we just lost.
Why that that had that came from another league Not recently gave you? Obviously.
You know, I had, like, six fights and I think, or something like that in the UFC, but he just lost to a guy who was a champion in another league.
So him being part of another league is, uh, that that doesn't matter.
I mean, he's beating Benson.
Henderson is beating Eddie Alvarez there's enough dots that could be connected if the point is the money.
But you don't start by saying Let me be really here, bro.
And then also get ****ed when people say stuff.
And then, of course, you come in with your pilot dirt at the end of the day, though, really, when you when you look at it, I think Tony Tony has to realize that whatever he was before, he's not because he just lost and he lost in a really bad way.
So I think that's something that he has to accept on his side, too.
I think when these guys reach a certain point in their career, they think that's it.
I'm here and I'm here to stay and that's not the way that you have, see, really operates.
You know their arm or what have you done for me lately and what you did lately was not a very good performance, so I just look at it this way.
Hey just didn't get the win, but he fought his that song.
But if Michael Chandler's here and Tony Ferguson's here, then that last fight should have done this and I think that z what he's gotta look at.
I mean, like, just go in there and rack up another win, which would be a really good win over a former champion and belt Or get that win and get right back in that mix.
I'm gonna continue here because it's an interesting article, he says.
I got to the point where I'm like, You know what? I wanna fight Chandler.
You want your welcome? You want to do this ****? Yeah, Let's put it on paper. You'll see.
Let's make the money right.
Let's make it interesting.
I draw pay per view buys they wanted value.
Here I am, Uh, the article continues, and we get back to tone Tony again, Tony says, Everybody wanted me.
Everybody wants me to fight. Can be right.
And I would say Right there, Yeah, except right now it's Justin.
So we don't want to not see how B vs Justin.
It's just in now.
I would like to see he'll be even Tony at some point, but Tony needs to grab a win before he fights.
Will be, it will be were to beat Justin if we were to lose to Justin.
As long as it doesn't warrant a rematch, then maybe you, Pat, you pick.
Maybe you match, make someone coming off a loss versus someone coming off a loss, and then you you glue those two back together, But he continues, but I've got to earn my right back.
Who's it gonna be, Dustin, or is it gonna be Chandler? I don't give a ****.
I said it was tournament.
Now we're adding in people.
All right, Cool.
Here we go again.
Today marks the celebration right of even McGregor.
That wouldn't have happened unless they stripped my belt.
So **** you instead of this ****ing clown.
Uh, like I said, Chandler, I have nothing against you and Dustin.
I have nothing against you, but I ain't trying to help no one no more.
You're ****ing welcome. You have a belt, son.
I guarantee you, I'm going to tell you to go get my belt because your ass is going to get ****ing whipped.
I'm coming for it.
So both you and ****ing fat head.
This is a message for both of you knuckle felt knuckleheads.
It's my Matt and my time.
I've always said Tony's energy and entertainment.
Um and I suppose if he doesn't want to keep it real at times, that's fine. He's earned it.
It makes sense to him.
But I don't think it makes sense to anyone else.
Like when? When have you ever seen somebody lose a fight like that and then talk **** to the guy that just beat him until him? I'm coming for you? Like that? Just doesn't make sense, you know? No, no, no.
You deserve a raise him.
You had a great fight.
Tony's put in a lot of time, but does he deserve a raise from another loss? Why not? Okay, we'll get into a little bit more of that.
But right now, let's talk to our guest.
It's Aspen Land, the number three ranked bantamweight in the USA Today sports and Mm, a junkie rankings.
How are you? Hi.
I'm doing great.
Thanks for having me.
And sorry that I forgot yesterday.
My physical therapist is being terrible.
Where did go? Go? Go.
Does it just asking tonight right now? Uh, okay. I guess.
I guess he's going to duck out.
So Aspen, since you started there with the rehab talk, tell us, where are you? Are you about the halfway point right now? Um, the halfway point might be a little ambitious.
I'm doing extremely well.
Um, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to be back early in 2021.
So what to see? Something keeps going.
But right now it's going well.
Yeah, usually I think they call these the the nine month injury.
But honestly, um, I think it's always safer.
Thio take us much time as you need to get it right, that one.
That one first time and not push it too hard and have some sort of a setback.
So you take the you take all the time.
You need to get it right? You know what I mean? I mean, I already see you hiking, though, on Instagram.
So that's why I thought maybe you were a little ahead of the curve.
Who knows? Hiking and that kind of like hiking and biking.
That's pretty easy.
It's the fast stuff that you've got to really take your time with.
I just started like old lady jogging.
I could do that.
I started doing ladder drills Little tiny box jump but it's more the explosive fast movements in the cutting that's going to take a while.
Ast faras the endurance and that kind of thing.
It's progressing extremely well.
Well, that's good to hear.
And it sounds like you do all this in Northern California you communicate with I think you told us told us this before you communicate with the U F C p I they give you your program and you pretty much stick to it.
Yeah, I have a couple amazing physical therapists here and a really good team of coaches.
And we all work together and then communicate back forth.
P I I go out whenever before covert.
I go out fairly.
It was normal known part of the routine, but But the restrictions, that hasn't really been worth it.
I like your roof.
What do you like in a cabin or something like that? This is my house.
Yeah, Yeah, really, Really.
But I like it. It's really, really cool.
It is a cabin. Yeah.
Is it really mhm Nice.
So let me ask you this Now I want to go through.
If you don't mind, you watch the fights last Saturday? Of course.
So let's go through like it happened live.
Um, the first fight was Julianne Opinion versus Jermaine Miranda.
Me, the only loss.
You freaking your career.
Your career is to Jermaine, a former champion, as a featherweight.
Uh, she's been a contender as a ban away against Julian Opinion, who technically really only had one loss in the UFC.
And but the problem is, she became a mom.
She had an injury.
She hadn't been fighting much, but that, but having the one loss kind of kept her hovering around.
And to her credit, she was a champion on the ultimate fighter.
So we knew that she was always a player as this fight was unfolding.
Was it a simple as you just needed remained a knockoff, Giuliana? Or were you seeing it another way? Not at all.
When I was watching that fight, because it didn't really impact me.
Either way, I made fighting Durant again one day I would still really like to fight Giuliana.
That fight was supposed to come together last year and she kept having issues and then cove it happened and the other things, but I would still love that fight.
And who knows? I might end up facing your mate again in the future, too.
But I think because I'm gonna be out for quite a while, still, there's other fights that are available to her and a couple other fighters.
Whereas I know the frequency that Penna fights.
And another person that I'd like to fight I by the time that I'm back, probably when they're rolling again.
Okay, so then I miss read it.
I thought for sure you had pom poms and you were team Jermaine and you were getting one of the possible contenders out of the way.
But I guess I miss read that I wasn't shocked at all.
But there's still something about getting that particular fight just because we're after it.
And it was supposed to come together so many times last year, and her ranking is not going to drop it all after losing to Jermaine remains too high up there.
It's still a good fight to get.
And is that, by the way, is that in any way an animosity and animosity fight that you would like because you mentioned it here.
And then we also talked to your coach, Jim West, and he also mentioned that he would like to see that fight.
I'm thinking why, though she's now taking a loss.
So is there something there like Did you guys exchange glances at the P I or at an event like I wanna I wanna knock her out? I want to choke her.
There's and lost is a little bit too far.
It's definitely there's a level of annoyance.
There's like Come on because you're supposed to fight back to back to back and it ends up where it seems like you're just playing.
Basically, you're playing.
You're staying out of the ring when you could be You're claiming injuries that aren't necessarily injuries when the other competitors actually dealing with some of them, so it gets a little bit annoying, and I would still like Thio, get in there one day and work on that work with her.
That's a nice way of saying of somebody saying I wanna punch her in the face.
But asking is a really, really nice lady, a nice young lady.
She's a professional so she She just says that the way she says it.
All right, So then that fight happens, and now we get to the main event.
And, of course, Saldanha is another possible contender.
Um, for the title fight versus Nunes and I should stay.
We all know Nunes already has a fight at 1 45 so she's not even defending 35 until the spring, probably a 2021.
So I get why? Maybe it's not the most urgent thing, but either way, Aldonas up there, she's streaking.
Um, she's in the main event for a reason.
How is were you thinking at that point? Go Holly, Get all Donna out of the way, or are you? Tell us now what you were thinking before that point.
Now I was hoping for all Donna the when, and it's not even being competitors.
But I thought it would have been neat to see, because I the Hall, if I was also one, was supposed to come together at one point, and that didn't end up coming together.
But it's it's kind of cool for me because you have the women that are basically they're the old guard.
They've been around for a long time.
Everybody knows about him, and I think it's coming up.
You gotta fight those women and potentially take him out.
Holly is one of them.
Jermaine's one. Well, Jermaine's.
She's badass, but she's one of them.
Um And then there's Penna Pennington, just basically the founders of the division.
I think as somebody coming up like myself or like Al, Donna, you have to take out those people first and it wouldn't mind seeing it all.
Hold on and we'll pull that one out.
But ended up being the perfect fiber. Holly.
Yeah, I gotta admit Holly and Jermaine both looked great, especially in the way they finished.
I mean, Jermaine was this close to losing because I think your scorecard You probably had it 11 I know I had it 11 I think most people had it 11 And to be fair, when Penna did get to take them, if you look at her her her body had almost cleared the knees.
She if she pull your head out, she's almost like an amount position.
And you know that writing time could be sometimes the key to getting that judge's decision.
But tell me, how are you watching the fight unfold? And and did it surprise you toe to see your main pull out the subs? Or is the talk around town that she at least has a good guillotine front choke? Like, how much of a surprise is that result? It was definitely surprised because petting or darkening opinion was about to win that on decision, in my opinion, um, and it wasn't necessarily a hard fight for I think she was easily gonna one united decision.
But that last second sub, nobody expects that.
That's like a Hail Mary kind of somebody shooting in your trying to get their neck kind of thing.
But it ended up working, so that was a little bit shocking.
Did you know it was in when it happened? Like, did you think she would clear her head and she'd be okay? Or did you see something there or you saw some really good technique? They were up against the cage kind of awkwardly as well, so I don't know if that was maybe more torque more mawr angle or what? But what? What did you did you think that of it initially? Yeah, because as I said, that's just something you really don't see, especially that far into a fight there.
And he's like, Yeah, she's gonna get out.
She didn't get out.
Initially, I didn't.
But then I looked a little bit closer and like, it was just a really, really lucky sub.
Okay, eso Then we got our two winners, Jermaine and Holly.
You think the U.
C s eyes gonna just match them up and then the winner, I guess maybe just earned yourself another shot against Nunes.
Or have you heard differently? Uh huh.
I've a lot of people are matching me up online right now.
I think they're forgetting the current situation.
I would love to be considering those talks, but I'm not quite there yet.
I won't be back for a little bit longer, and then we'll see.
But as far as I see it, that's really only fight.
That makes sense now.
When you look at the champion, um, a lot of people say when when you don't have a fight, you're kind of training for the champion.
When you look at her, she is so dominant.
Do you look at her? Ah, fight with her being.
I just have to be a better as been lad that day than she is Amanda Nunes.
Or do you look at her game and say, Hey, I see a lot of holes there that I can maybe possibly exploit.
Amanda doesn't have a lot of holes. That's why she's champion.
Um, there's a couple of things where maybe she could improve on, but she is so dominant, so good at what she does, that fighting her.
It's exciting, Um, when and if that comes up, but you don't really look at somebody is a champ, and he's been a chance for that.
Long goes, Ah, you got glaring holes in your game because even if they do, they're aware of it.
And so far it hasn't played out where it's detrimental to them.
When you look at that whole situation fighting for a belt, everything that comes along with it, you know, every every fighter that we interview kind of does this offer a different reason? What air? Kind of the things that really drive you is that the belt? Is it the money that the fame? What is it that would maybe make you shed a tear that night? Oh, boy, as faras I look at it.
It's never really been like the I've never been considered the belt or the fame or any of that, as I've gotten further my career and more up the rankings.
Of course, the belt talk has come into play because it's more than likely it's going to go there.
And who knows? If I hadn't gotten injured this year, what would have happened? Fight ways.
But, um, I don't know.
My driving force really is just the freedom and the independence of it all.
I love what I do.
I love to fight, and I love being able to make a living and take care of myself, anything that I want to dio basically the freedom that comes with it.
But if even if I didn't have that, if I still fighting amateur, for example not making anything, I'd still do it.
What's the talk around the locker room? If there even is one? I don't know how close all you Bannon weights can ever be if you ever see each other at an autograph signing or UFC Expo or whatever, but do you think the feeling is that most of them all these names we named GDR penna yourself one of you wants to knock off Nunes and have that have that, you know, be part of their legacy? Or do you think most of you just would rather dunes retire? Get out of the way and then it is you got the rest of you can figure it out.
What? Keeping it riel.
I can't speak for other women, and I'm only good friends with one because it's it's really, really bad policy to be friends with the other people in your weight class.
Of course, we you around the P I and other situations where you run into him.
But one friend, Um, as far as that goes, I can't speak for other women.
Personally, I'd love to fight her, but if she was the re retired before I get back, or if something does happen, okay, I'll fight the next check.
But right now she is top dog.
So you should want to have to fight her.
Yeah, I get exactly what you're saying.
We just went through something like that with John Jones.
Both Dominick Reyes and John Bozovic were saying the right thing.
Hey, look, we can't worry about it.
But I often wondered if they were happy that he was gone or if they, if they wanted to be the one.
I mean, Dominic had his chance.
Yang, to be fair, never had his chance.
Eso would have been interesting because Tiago Santos had given him a good fight.
Dominant had given up a good fight.
So it's like people were just chipping away at the mountain.
That was John Jones, you know, and it's interesting, because if somebody could take out that mythical figure, it's It's like the grandest thing ever, you know.
But then other fighters just say, I don't even care who's there.
I wanna be a champ one day.
If they're they're great, they're not whatever.
And then they'll snicker.
It might even be an easier road, you know, or whatever.
Thought I wanted to see where you stood, but it's great that you're willing to take the challenge.
Yeah, I didn't get to take easy fights.
Okay? It seems like we're having a little bit of a rough patch there with your video.
Can you hear me? Oh, okay, so there you are. All right.
But I just wanted to close with this How How are your dogs, I believe.
Is that Chevy and Miss Kayla or something? That Uh huh.
Yeah, about that.
Didn't one of them have, like, a ninja re? I was on Instagram.
How are they doing? Because those were some long hikes.
Are they Are the dogs good? Yes, but that is great.
She just turned 10.
You see it? Yeah, but she's doing great.
And Chevy? He's over there.
He lost the leg.
Well, a form of cancer in his bone.
And there's nothing they could do to save it.
So he had to get It was hard.
You had to get amputated about four months ago now, But then he tours growing five days post op.
So, yeah, it's been hard, but I've been as I was going through.
Physical therapy has also take him.
No, I was just gonna say I love you.
So I'll just say this.
I love seeing you with your dogs on the hikes and I did see you assisting him, but I couldn't get a good angle because I wasn't wearing my glasses.
But I saw you assisting one of the dogs.
You guys were walking through the creeks and it was awesome.
I know you love them.
We love our dogs Are dogs as well.
So it's great to see you have that relationship with them.
Um, you're right.
The the transmission here, the broadcast getting a little rough, But I think we got way caught up a little bit here.
And we, uh Now we know that you're close to about 50%.
So hopefully we'll be seeing you soon in the octagon in 2021.
Yeah, I'm excited.
But obviously, I can't rush anything yet.
And I can't like, Hey, I'm gonna be back on the state like I'm gonna be back in my physical therapist.
Think I could be back, right? Understood.
Well, thanks. Asking for the time.
And I hope you have a nice day.
Thank you. You too.
Alright, folks, that's Aspen.
Ladd, the number three bantamweight in the USA Today sports and mm, a junkie rankings goes what? I've always loved about Aspen is her answers are very concise.
And, uh, sometimes a lot of the athletes, like the like, drag on this, that whatever.
So she always keeps me on my toes.
I have My next question is ready to go and consistent.
You know, I like that She's very consistent with everything she does.
Um, but you know what, though, If you would have told me Hey, what does Aspen lives? House looked like.
That's how I would have envisioned it.
E I was pretty happy that that actually look like that, like, every day and their long hikes, man.
Sometimes she'll go like into the teens, like 13 miles or whatever.
And she she's nor cowgirl.
Um, but yeah, it did look, so I thought maybe she was like, um, camping or not camping, but just kind of got an Airbnb, you know, a practical home.
And I thought it looked cool.
I forgot to ask her one question.
I wanted to ask her because she had spent so much time here in Vegas.
I wanted to see if her opinion of Vegas had changed at all.
She was gonna get some hikes in over here wasn't she? Yeah.
We're gonna try a couple new things here and there in Vegas.
Remember? She wasn't feeling it too much last time.
Well, when we talked to Cody Stamen, he was saying, Hey, look, I got it all wrong.
There's some good hunting out on the West now.
He didn't mean like, you know, Santa Monica or nothing like that.
But what he meant was one of the West face, which is Nevada.
He apparently went a little bit north and found some good spots.
What? Uh, yeah, they were You surprised with their answers? Because I thought for sure she would be stoked that all Donna and Kenya were out of the way.
And that just clears the path for her.
Because when she comes back, maybe they'll offer her title shot, you know? Or maybe they won't.
I don't know, but usually for me, if I'm an athlete, I'm thinking, what's the closest path to the title? You know, I think with her she's pretty honest, and I like that you asked her to keep it real, but I backed her into a corner. Yeah.
Something tells you that you can't mess around.
I think what her answers tell me is that she just has a lot of confidence in herself and the road.
There doesn't matter who's there.
That, to me, is like a very confident fighter when they speak that way.
Look, Nunes fights in December, and she'll probably need three months off, so she's not coming back until April.
And by then, I bet you, GDR and home will already fight.
I mean, that's probably what will happen to Kellen.
Vera just bounced back from her all donna loss.
She just gotta win a couple weeks ago so she might go.
Hey, don't forget about me.
I've only had one loss in the UFC and one loss in my career, and I came back with the wind.
So do not forget about me.
She beat Eubanks, right? So Jar Eubanks.
So anyway, way wish her the best.
She looks like she's tenacious when it comes to the details of her career.
So I imagine she doesn't miss a workout.
She doesn't miss the rehab session, and I think she'll be back, ready to go.
But yeah, I think I think one fight before the title fight would be perfect thanks to Yeah, we didn't get a chance to finish out.
I think I read everything that Ferguson said.
How do you think all this plays out? So point they got paid.
Ferguson is still telling the UFC **** you pay me so he hasn't gotten paid.
Chandler's already just basically training for the possibility of fighting for the world title.
But how is this thing shaking out? Go ahead and throw Oliveira hooker McGregor.
Do you see anything? There is anything even been clarified here? Do you think they'll come to an agreement with Tony and and throw them in there against foyer for whatever reason? After you pay me is not going to go over well right now, I don't think so.
Um, especially with Tony's history in previous fights, you know, injuries, stuff like that.
I just don't see that going very well.
It's not a good strategy.
It's not a good strategy in a division that doesn't really need anyone because there's so many beats.
You just go to the next guy in the next guy.
I think your biggest ally and that division is staying active, and if you start to go away, it's just tougher to get back in there, like all of out of nowhere, a guy that they didn't even need.
Michael Chandler, who's an awesome fire, just pops up.
And now that's one more step you gotta take before you get to that title like you can't mess around.
You gotta get out there and just start fighting.
And I would say, if Tony, if I were Tony, I would have taken the fight, I would have won the fight.
And then after that, maybe you could start talking a little bit.
But then the other thing, too, is like even if everything goes your way.
The guy at the top is Habib right now, right? And that is just, ah, hard pill for people to swallow.
To see Tony and Habib's name again come up so like his road is like 100 times worse than everybody else's.
So I think you just got to be active, make these paychecks because I mean that some of the injuries Tony's had are are very tough injuries, and I know he came back from one of them remarkably, really quick But, um, every time we have one of those, it's harder and harder to get up in the morning.
It's harder to do things.
So I think you need to strike while the iron talk and just make money right now. Just fight, bro.
You think he's a free agent or do you think he's got a contract? But he just wants to get paid more because that seems to be the landscape in MME.
I think that's what it ISS, and I don't blame him because a lot of fighters were doing it and it seems like it's worked out for for quite a few.
Let's throw out some random numbers, Let's say in the fight versus G, he got paid 500 grand, right? Okay, So do you think I'm gonna give you two scenarios? Do you think he's going back to the U.
C and saying Pay me more than 500 grand? I'm Tony Ferguson.
I just gave you a great fight and the U.
S is going, but you lost because if you had one, you would have walked in here and said, I just knocked out.
Just engage you.
Give me more money that might make more sense.
But you lost the fight and we're not.
So do you think that might be the case? And they just want to keep him at 500 grand? Or do you think or do you think now Tony is supposed to fight Dustin and the U.
S is gone 400 grand and Tony's going No, just keep me up 500 grand where I waas and he's going.
No, but you lost, like, What do you think? You think every time he just wants more, regardless of the winner lost.
I mean, he threw throughout that Twitter and Twitter comment about Chandler.
So obviously, his stock probably grew social media wise.
You do You think that's how he's pricing himself? I think it's option one what you said.
I think that's what he's doing.
And I think if you're the UFC and I know it can sound cruel, but you probably huddle up and you go all right.
What do we have here with Tony Ferguson and you go look tremendous fighter? The last fight was wow was I mean, they went out there and and they did everything that we asked them to do.
But at some point, I think I would probably say something along the lines of Yeah.
I don't know if two guys can fight like that and one of them come back the same guy, you know, like, who knows what that fight did to him physically.
That was a really tough out.
Um, So if I have a voting and I said, that's probably just keep things the same, you know, like, yeah, he lost.
But we still love him, and we're willing to give him the same amount of money because of what he did and how he went out there and fought, but toe kind of to give him mawr.
I don't know that we want to do that.
Um, because from the U. S.
Seaside, they locked into contracts from the fighter side.
They signed contracts, and they say, Yeah, but we're not really feeling, you know, the UFC doesn't have that luxury.
They don't have have gone.
Now, let's change your contract.
Here's what I think is happening much.
It'll just take me a second. Here.
We got you have C 2 54 coming up.
By the way, we're doing a watch along on SportsCastr on October 24th.
Remember, there's a new start time for the pay per view you have sees adjusting and they're gonna go primetime in Abu Dhabi.
So the paper of using started to Eastern 11 a.
Pacific goes and I are going to duck in at 10 a.
Pacific, which is one PM Eastern for the start of sight.
So we're gonna be in there for two fights prior to the main card.
The main card starts at 2 p.
m. Pacific will be in there at 10 a.m. Pacific.
So we're gonna watch two problems and then five fights from the from the paper view.
So it is a pay per view.
And, uh, we're going to start reminding you along the way, because it's not at night.
It's gonna be mourning for us here on the West Coast and afternoon for you guys on the East Coast.
So this is what I'm getting that goes.
You see, 2 54 I'm gonna tell you what the main card looks like.
All right, it's got to be vs Justin.
I mean, that pretty much sells the paper of you.
But here's what.
Here's what's the backup? Whitaker versus Cannon here.
Solid right? Good versus Walt Harris.
Great fight, Islam.
Marcus Sheff versus Hot Failed also knows he's dropping back.
Cynthia Calvillo versus Lauren Murphy.
Yeah, Lauren Murphy's picked herself up.
She has a streak.
Calvillo moved upto 1 25.
So that's a good fight.
And then on the undercard, the the fight that ever goes away.
Maghoma ankle Iaw against Iancu Tha Laba and then Stefan Struve vs Tight to leave Lhasa.
I think those are the seven fights we're gonna be watching.
That's a great day, right? Very good. Yeah.
Okay, now here's what I'm thinking.
Goes U F C 2 55.
I'm gonna go to November and remember, these guys watch the trends.
They have an early idea of what's popping and what isn't.
Here's that card Davison Figueredo against Alex Perez is your main event.
That's not gaijin and hobby.
When it was was to figure out against Cody Guard Brand, I think we're like, Okay, I feel you.
It's not gauging, Habib But we're in the conversation here because that should be a great fight because Cody's super popular and Davison's a stud, you know what I mean? So you can already tell those guys love to throw hands.
It's gonna be great.
This is no disrespect.
I think he's won six straight.
He's just not Cody Guard Brand.
But then we also have Valentina Shevchenko versus Jennifer Maya.
Now a lot of people Michael Mann, Valentines, a smoker and others might go.
Yeah, but that's the fun part is watching somebody obliterate someone else because they're just great.
They dominate their division.
All of Mike Tyson.
That's what used to happen in Goes and and my era is, we would just basically pay 75 bucks toe watch Tyson obliterate somebody in one round.
Some people are just into that, So that's a 12 punch there to title fights.
Um, but it's still not.
You'll see 2 50 for their backing it up with the other Shevchenko sister and Tonino versus our Ian Lipsky Marissa showdown.
Huot versus Paul Craig.
Um, Robbie Lawler versus Mike Perry.
Yeah, they, those guys air exciting.
That should be good.
Brandon Rival versus Brandon Marino s.
So they make up a little ground.
But it's not too 54 right? Goes No, no e Find that, too, though.
But if Moya and Ferguson joined the fray in at 2 55 now the cards awesome.
Right now, it's really good.
Yeah, Ferguson is he's play.
Is he saying that? And using that as leverage on guys, you could use me in foyer.
Pay me, should the years he just go All right, we'll pay you because they make so much off paper views that they can make up that extra 100 grand and he's looking for whatever.
Or do they stick to their guns because the Ferguson does it and Toyota does it.
Then we got to deal with Hooker.
We got to deal with, you know, Dominick Reyes and Gar Brand and you know, because we're travels and and they're just gonna always get picked apart.
So what do you think? That's the cat and mouse game that's being played? Yeah, and I mean, come on.
Like, managers don't usually have one guy in their stable.
They have multiple guys.
So if you've been for one of them, that guy is going to know in the next negotiation.
Hey, I could probably play this card.
I would say in a pandemic.
Yeah, you probably do it.
But if we weren't in a pandemic, I think you swallow your pride and you say, Nope.
This is your contracts which signed, and this is what we're gonna do.
Do some fighters deserve raises, even of coming off losses.
If they're a awesome fighters like Tony, they've had long streaks prior to the loss.
Do they? Can they still apply for a raise? Even though they came off the loss they're in, they're not crazy.
Yeah, because I don't think that's crazy at all.
I think some of them do deserve it.
You know what happened? You might tie the window into whether you deserve a raise or not.
Some something tells me that I don't know.
Well, what happens is is think about it.
If Tony Ferguson knows that, maybe he doesn't get a raise or something, you know, because of that, maybe he doesn't fight the way he fights, maybe fights more reserved and just tries toe eke out a decision or something, because he's like, man, if I if I put myself out there and lose, I ain't getting this money.
So you can't on one side tell fighters find a certain way, but then not reward them for doing so.
You know, like s O.
I think there has to be some kind of middle ground.
All right. Look, we're gonna be back tomorrow.
Here on SportsCastr.
There's a lot more to talk about.
We have a great main event this weekend.
Marlin Morris, which is Corey San Hagen.
That's an incredible fight at Bantamweight.
There's a fun story that's been unraveling with Mike Perry, who I mentioned earlier.
He's looking for an extra corner meant to go along with his girlfriend lavatory.
Uh, but he's taking bids.
If you want a bid to be his corner man, he's basically he's basically having, like, an auction.
And there, until has offered to pay money to go in there and then there until for fun said, Now, how much was everyone gonna pay me to just go in the towel, which I thought was hilarious? Uh, we'll unpack that tomorrow along with talking about Mariah's in San Hagen will give a shout out to Jimmy Rivera who's been training police.
That's cool, man.
The police were taking such a hard hit nowadays with everything going on with racially call inequality and social inequality.
And not all cops are bad cops.
Not even by far.
There are some bad cops. They'll tell you that.
But I like that somebody is doing something for the for.
The blue community will say, You know what I mean over a ballot or they got a couple of fight cards, including chick Congo coming home to fight in France.
Eso We'll cover all that tomorrow.
Today we just wanted to dip in and let you know how plans are unfolding over here.
I'd ever made junkie radio.
You might still we might might, which I doubt.
But there might still be a chance of Wednesday's can continue.
But, um, at least now you know that Mondays and Thursdays for sure, it seems like we'll be here at, uh at SportsCastr.
So just follow us on Twitter, Adam and May junkie George.
And at the goes and we will update you once everything is finalized and on in stone.
And of course, you can always go to the site every day to know what's going on? Uh huh.
Including those of you that are bilingual.
If you want to check out Emma and Espanol, we have a problem most.
Emma with Danny Segura.
He caught up with Cheeto.
Vera? Um, this week he caught up with Ricardo LAMAs last week and they they chat in Spanish.
So if you wanna check that out, um, go to the site and you'll see it there.
And then from there you can figure out what podcast platform you want to subscribe to.
One last thing breaking news below.
Mohammed will take on Shawn Brady.
Um, we're happy for below.
He's been wanting to fight.
We actually interviewed him recently, so look out for that.
You might see some video highlights in a recap.
He cracks me up goes I was watching the whole interview basically again.
And him with those glasses.
I swear he's so funny.
I feel like we're talking about comedian.
He just has the funny look to him, You know what I mean? But he's a fighter.
He's 18 out of nine.
So he's one of the best welterweights out there.
Alright, folks, enjoy your Wednesday.
We'll see you all tomorrow noon Eastern 9 a.
Pacific here on sports SportsCastr Excuse
