00:00:04
All right. So we're live.
00:00:05
Uh, David, Thanks for joining us.
00:00:07
We're interviewing me.
00:00:08
Jordan were interviewing rapper and former Giants running back David Evil.
00:00:12
David, how you doing on this? Fine evening? You know, I'm great, man.
00:00:16
Ain't glad to be here.
00:00:18
Yep.
00:00:19
Great.
00:00:20
Have you here as well as well as Jordan.
00:00:22
Question I'd like to ask is who is your favorite NFL player going up.
00:00:26
And you know, what was your favorite team or any outsider inside inspirations? Yeah, as far as football, I had a lot of, you know, favorite athletes that I like to keep up with.
00:00:39
Bo Jackson was one that really stood out to me because how person tell he waas.
00:00:44
So I really looked up to him.
00:00:46
A swell as a lot of running backs.
00:00:48
And then, like Michael Big Band from Virginia and having the impact that he did on the NFL.
00:00:52
I really love keeping up with him as well.
00:00:57
Yeah, as far as Bo Jackson goes with the versatility, obviously you're very versatile, guy I know made a couple of runs at the Olympics.
00:01:06
Also, your music career obviously just taken off eso I see the similarities there obviously he was a dual sport athlete.
00:01:15
Um, so I just want to start it off Where it all But again, Before you made the jump to music, uh, coming out of college, you were a first round pick for the Giants.
00:01:25
Uh, I just wanted to ask, how did it feel to be drafted, uh, by such a famed or station, Especially the year after they won the Super Bowl? Man, it was like a dream come true being drafted in the first round.
00:01:40
That's something that I really like set a goal down and actually broke down in my lifetime that I wanted to accomplish so working hard and my all my hard work paying off get to that point where I hit him Call my name on draft night You know, with the anticipation of just imagine, like having this goal that you wanna be in the first round and being the last pick of the first round.
00:02:01
So it was that close, you know, to not happening.
00:02:04
But at the same time, the world champion New York Giants drafted me, trusted me to carry the load eso that could speak volumes as far as like, the hard work and the trust that these Super Bowl coaches they know how to win and they know what it takes.
00:02:16
The wind so they can identify athletes.
00:02:21
I'll pick.
00:02:22
That was an honor, right? Cool.
00:02:25
And obviously, you were drafted by Coach Tom Coughlin.
00:02:28
Uh, I know Alex was curious to know about how it was with him.
00:02:33
Um, he was old school gridiron, you know, straight up guy.
00:02:38
And he taught me a lot about football and about life, just his philosophies and being able to share that with him every day.
00:02:46
You know, Iron sharpens iron.
00:02:49
It's like Coughlin and the coaches who was, you know, who are the players in that locker room that we're really leaders to that team.
00:02:56
Even after the Super Bowl.
00:02:59
I remember Justin Tuck taking lead on the team, Eli Manning leading by example and and trail role.
00:03:08
You know, being a boat leader and, uh, taking charge in the locker room, playing with these guys and just having that energy.
00:03:18
No, it was black.
00:03:20
It was just all great memories created.
00:03:25
Um, So obviously, after your NFL career was pretty short due to some heart breaking into injuries.
00:03:33
Uh, so how heartbroken were you? And how angry Where you in the immediate, uh, aftermath of the spinal stenosis, Uh, and the injuries that, so to speak, ended your career.
00:03:45
Ultimately, that was definitely devastating to get their news.
00:03:50
Uh, you know, after my perspective, I was only, like, just getting started.
00:03:55
I broke a lot of records.
00:03:56
My rookie season.
00:03:58
I became a starting running back, the New York Giants my sop****re season.
00:04:05
And then to just endure the injury six games until my sop****re season as a starting running back for the New York Giants on and then having that hope to come back and undergoing surgery, hoping that you could come back and doctors promising that you will be stronger than you left and that not happening or B in the case.
00:04:21
That was definitely frustrating, but at the same time, I had to realize and pick up, get up, keep rolling and never give up and just just roll with the punches of life and find out what's next for David Wilson.
00:04:36
So I realized that I was David Wilson, and I got in touch with my art side, and I started teaching myself different skill sets of life and amongst those, uh, e taught myself to produce beats composed music already lyrics and record.
00:04:55
So that's what led me to today 2020.
00:04:58
Releasing my album off normal.
00:05:00
I just advise everybody Go check that out by such and David Wilson on their search and platform for music.
00:05:07
For sure.
00:05:08
I actually listened to it, and I didn't know that you actually made all the beats.
00:05:11
Some of those were really cool, actually, a lot of layering and stuff like that.
00:05:16
Yeah.
00:05:17
So I'm in my studio right now and you know everything you're hearing that album is from me or any of my albums.
00:05:23
Got a Christmas album? I got another album called Ran.
00:05:27
Those also searchable findable along with other projects that are released.
00:05:32
But yeah, all the beats you here I make right here in the studio.
00:05:36
I get everybody that rolled out of me so they can hear it.
00:05:40
So, first, when I started making beats, I was like getting it from YouTube.
00:05:45
Work with what? I had nuclear.
00:05:47
Uh, while I'm more inclined, you know? And I realized I wasn't found that I was going for and I wanted to do more of me Vs this Vs that, That person Is this a combination of things? I just wanted to flow from the heart and be heartfelt for me.
00:06:06
So what better way than to teach yourself how to write lyrics and make peace? That's what I write now, sort of.
00:06:13
I was gonna ask a different question, but I'm actually not curious.
00:06:16
Um, before the covert pandemic, did you have a place to go in your house to record or did you have a studio somewhere else that you could actually formulate all the stuff you do now? Yeah.
00:06:28
So in 2015 our first, uh, recorded a song and I was going to a studio.
00:06:34
And like I said, I went through the process of, like, learning and teaching myself and, you know, becoming more inclined as far as music.
00:06:42
And basically in 2017 that's when I started.
00:06:46
I built this studio in my own house in Atlanta and I started teaching myself how to make beats and hooking up all these instruments and all these speakers and compressors and Mike's.
00:06:59
And basically, after I did all that, it was like part of a year or six months or so where I actually learned how to, like, get sound, to come out with a computer speakers based on all the programs that I was using.
00:07:14
And then after that, I was shortly after that.
00:07:15
I just started recording.
00:07:17
I haven't stopped since, so we're still running now.
00:07:21
Transitioning Well went back before joining us. Next question.
00:07:25
Transitioning back to you know, the days, the rehabbing for the retirement who led you through your rehab.
00:07:32
And even though you could go back on the field again, who looks at you through what teammates, What people in your life where people in your family led you and trying to keep you in a positive motivation.
00:07:41
Going forward? Yeah.
00:07:44
So everybody around me.
00:07:45
So anybody around me, that's not, you know, actually advocating to the benefits of my life.
00:07:53
Or if I'm not advocating for the benefits of their life, I don't No.
00:07:58
Then what do you around for? So basically everybody around me that I keep around me, my mom, my dad, my family, immediate family, all right, the time makes you know, keep a small circle.
00:08:15
But at the same time, you got a lot of support.
00:08:17
So a lot of my fans was also a part of that process tweeting me and GM and me and, you know, cheering on me to be back on the field and killing me.
00:08:26
They wanted to see it just as bad as I did.
00:08:28
So I fed off of that, and the New York Giants was behind me 100% trying to get me help me.
00:08:34
Like I said, they put me into the surgery, paid for everything for that to happen and send me through the rehab process that they felt was best.
00:08:43
But unfortunately, it didn't work out.
00:08:46
I was forced to retire.
00:08:49
Um, yes.
00:08:50
So obviously going back to the album, obviously out now, far from normal.
00:08:54
Um, so I kind of had a dual question kind of goes hand in hand.
00:08:59
So first of all was obviously it was very different, but in a good way, different from what I heard.
00:09:06
So my first question is, who were your musical influences and who kind of influenced you in that direction to make sounds like that on that album? And then my second question was actually how long in the making from start to finish did it take you to record? Yeah.
00:09:21
So basically, when I listen to music, you know, I appreciate people that present their music and art form and people that can also incorporate positivity more so the negativity and their music lyrics.
00:09:34
Because I stand for inspiration and motivation.
00:09:37
Positivity, love the main thing.
00:09:41
And when I listen to music, I look for those things.
00:09:45
So some of my favorite songs have all those tools in it.
00:09:48
Ah, I look at Kanye West as being different and present his music as an art born.
00:09:56
So that inspired me.
00:09:58
When I was in freshman in high school, I was like he was one of my favorite artists and then also going along with being from Virginia for rail Williams, who makes a lot of positive music and, uh, you know, not not necessarily expected, but at the same time, something different than positive, along with many other artists that inspired me along the way.
00:10:22
But those are the two that stand out right away and not kid Cutty.
00:10:26
There's another one, and basically, with this album, I worked on it from 2000.
00:10:32
Some of these songs on this album, or from 2018.
00:10:36
So I wasn't necessarily working on the album then, uh, working on this album from 2018 just going through my song catalog.
00:10:45
Um, this album came about.
00:10:47
I created album artwork for a song that I made about two months ago.
00:10:52
I would say, uh and I created album won't work.
00:10:56
Once I created album artwork, I was like, Man, this is so futuristic and so like you know, at the same time, Vantage And, uh, this song doesn't necessarily do this album aren't justice.
00:11:11
So that's when I knew I needed to make an album to match his album Artwork that I created.
00:11:16
So these songs.
00:11:17
I went back in my songs on my catalog, and I made a few other songs.
00:11:21
I probably had to make a record like eight more songs that I really wanted to be on the album.
00:11:27
And then I went through my catalog and just went through any other songs that I felt like I wanted to release at the moment that matched their picture.
00:11:34
And because the picture wasn't wasn't normal.
00:11:37
Ah, you got the burning bush and got me floating over the trees on fire.
00:11:42
You know, royalty with the hat so anger.
00:11:47
I just felt like I needed to do that and then released the songs that I felt like match that album.
00:11:52
So basically these this album comes from like songs from 2018 on in 2020.
00:12:00
Um, basically, I made these songs on I wanted to be Raw and I wanted to be, uh, you know, an experience more so than just jamming out back to back.
00:12:12
It's more than experiencing is very versatile.
00:12:18
This album has no drama, so I have homes on the album I have, you know, it's emotional.
00:12:24
Songs have party songs, songs, club music.
00:12:30
Uh, you name it, it's on there.
00:12:32
So basically, I wanted to put something on this album.
00:12:36
I feel like everything.
00:12:38
I covered all bases for somebody to find something they like on this album, apart from normal and also I named it far from normal because it's not.
00:12:48
It's rare that I hear people use their own music and their own beats that they created from start to finish on the album project and also, you know, writing the lyrics.
00:13:01
A lot of these artists, mainstream artists, have writers or they have composers that do the beach for him, and then somebody else makes the album artwork.
00:13:10
I mean, somebody else's like doing this and doing that, and there's a lot of working parts, But for me, it's just me right here in this room and just given the world of all about going back to your prior albums.
00:13:23
Maybe even, you know, your recent album.
00:13:25
Did you dedicate any lyrics or maybe even a song to what happened in your football career? Not even not even talking about, you know, the bad parts of the injury.
00:13:34
But you know the good parts of being part of the team and, you know, doing all the other stuff in the locker room and just having fun, you dedicate, like any part of that to maybe a song or a couple of lyrics.
00:13:44
Yeah, so I put the number four before each song, and that stands for like when I wore number four Virginia Tech.
00:13:49
Well, I was SEC player of the year.
00:13:52
Uh, basically, with that, uh, that four it stands for I don't I want the listener to be boxed in, so it's four sides to a box.
00:14:02
We're not necessarily about the square, and I wanted them to be boxed in with me.
00:14:09
So I put the four. And that's what that represents.
00:14:11
A kind of like plays off the sport of me wearing number four.
00:14:15
Number 22 2 plus two is four, and then also, everything that influenced me throughout my life is, uh, you know, I incorporate in my expression, and I talk a lot about not giving up and not stopping believing in yourself, believing that you can achieve what you set before yourself achieved, uh, staying strong and knowing what you want.
00:14:40
Eso I got a lot of lyrics that play off of that and play into that being disappoint.
00:14:46
Even when you hit disappointment, I feel like it's rock bottom.
00:14:49
You still have hope you could feel hurt.
00:14:52
You could feel hope, and I say a lot of that kind of stuff on my album.
00:14:56
Like I said, staying positive is the main thing.
00:14:58
The same way I handled my injury and not being able to put football ever again.
00:15:02
I kept going in my life just, you know, took the optimistic approach.
00:15:09
Eso this next one is also kind of another double Uh double question goes hand in hand.
00:15:15
So my first question is gonna be, uh how is your relationship if there is any relationship at all? Still, today with the New York Giants? And how are they? If there is a relationship, which I assume there is, they're very stand up organization.
00:15:29
But if there is, ah, relationship, how are they supporting your music career and the further steps you're taking after your football career? And my second question is, uh, any of your past teammates who shows the most love who who do you feel has really followed you on the musical journey of past teammates? Yeah, so basically, you've gotta bleed blue, once a giant, always a giant.
00:15:55
So I know if I've reached out, you know, they will be more more than willing to help in the ways that they could.
00:16:02
Um, but I have really collab with New York Giants as far as my music.
00:16:07
Uh, but basically as far as my teammates, you know, it's a lot of my teammates to still keep in touch with me and, uh, wish me well and support me on social media and stuff when they can, and but so Yeah, we got drafted to The New York Times together.
00:16:26
Who's my wedding on? You know, we even had kids.
00:16:30
Yeah, Kids play together, uh, when we're in the same city and stuff.
00:16:36
So, yeah, he always rocking with it's Excellency here.
00:16:44
I remember Rubin back in the day with Eli.
00:16:48
Actually, no.
00:16:49
You guys were from the same draft class.
00:16:52
Yeah.
00:16:53
I think Ruben was drafted in the second round.
00:16:56
I'm pretty sure.
00:16:57
And then David was the first round.
00:16:58
And then on and on.
00:17:00
Yeah.
00:17:03
Okay.
00:17:04
Does the audience have any questions? Let's see if they dio trying to kill time.
00:17:10
But see if they have any questions real quick given about a minute or self.
00:17:15
Yeah, just David.
00:17:21
We're gonna have We're gonna have an article coming out later in the week.
00:17:26
Promoting the article is well, eso we'll send you over that link if you want to check that out.
00:17:31
Yeah, I definitely want to read it.
00:17:32
And I tweeted and posted on my story.
00:17:34
And how about could support that as well? So I appreciate you all support me on my music journey.
00:17:40
Want to give you all special thing? Definitely, definitely.
00:17:45
For so I wanna let you all know while we're waiting on my But my computer's on 60 four minutes.
00:17:57
So but if it cut off, any reason that that was what happened? Sorry.
00:18:03
Sorry.
00:18:04
You haven't watched Giants came at all today.
00:18:07
I missed it.
00:18:08
Me and my dad was working on a project, so I got a recorded, So I'm gonna check it out right after this.
00:18:13
Yeah.
00:18:14
So big stuff happened after the game? Actually, Yeah.
00:18:21
I don't want you don't want to see.
00:18:23
Oh, you wanna talk about I mean, I don't want to spoil it because you have a recorded, but it would probably be The recorded version would probably not show it.
00:18:31
Golden Tate and Jalen Ramsey got into a scrum after the game.
00:18:35
Oh, man.
00:18:36
Like after, like, handshaking and everything.
00:18:38
Yeah. Yeah, after that and everything.
00:18:40
Uh, e g from what I saw on social media Got pretty ugly.
00:18:46
Got pretty ugly.
00:18:47
Yeah, I'd probably be on my timeline.
00:18:49
I gotta take it out.
00:18:51
Everybody get any cool? You gotta keep it cool.
00:18:55
Yeah.
00:18:56
I mean, I get, you know, Tates frustration, and everybody has been talking about this, you know, since a year ago if, uh, anyone doesn't know the story.
00:19:05
But I think on the field you do have to keep your cool.
00:19:07
And there was one of the reception's, actually, I mean, I'm not going to spoil the whole thing.
00:19:11
But where, Like, Ramsey definitely took Tate laid him out on a reception.
00:19:17
I don't remember which exact play, but, you know, Randy just laid him out after and then it was a couple churches, but the big stuff came back at the end of the game.
00:19:27
Mhm.
00:19:29
I hope they get it together.
00:19:30
We can get on the Winter Street.
00:19:32
I know that much on four.
00:19:36
So I joined.
00:19:37
I can't hear you enjoy your lips moving, but I can't hear you still muted, I think, or whatever.
00:19:51
I still can't hear you.
00:19:53
Oh, yes.
00:19:54
As you need it. Unneeded in Michael.
00:20:01
Mhm.
00:20:03
Maybe because he doesn't have his air pods in.
00:20:05
Maybe possibly can't hear you.
00:20:18
Maybe Maybe I'll put your airpods back in unless they're dead.
00:20:27
Excellent chat. Maybe I'll wait.
00:20:29
Now he's put him back on.
00:20:36
Yeah.
00:20:43
Yeah. His air pods are dead.
00:20:45
Oh, that sucks.
00:20:46
Always.
00:20:47
We got the, you know, most of questions to well over discussion.
00:20:50
And they were like, Thank you for coming on, man.
00:20:53
For sure. For sure, man.
00:20:54
Appreciate the support. Yeah.
00:20:57
Keep keep motivate.
00:20:58

00:20:58
You keep going with the rapid career, man, you're going to get somewhere.
