Good morning, everybody.
And welcome to pull press coverage.
It is the last last day of September where we're strolling into October, the MBA Finals start tonight.
We're getting ready for week for there's a lot of news.
Um, but first, Mike, I gotta ask you, Did you I know you watch some of the debates, um, last night in the presidential debate and maybe we don't really stick to politics.
You know too often here.
But, you know, for those who didn't, I guess for those who didn't tune in and I don't blame me if you didn't I mean, let's zb honest.
Here it was Ah, sight for sore eyes, to say the least.
But we do have some exclusive audio from the debate.
So I want to give you my solemn word that there will be no mud slinging in this campaign.
Unless, of course, my opponent swings it.
But I intend to stick to the issues.
What are the issues? Very riveting stuff like, yes.
You were e was watching.
Yeah, it was pretty **** entertained.
I couldn't understand why everybody else was so up in arms.
One question for you.
Uh, is Kanye still running for president by any chance? I hope so.
Uh, anyone? That's pretty hard.
I think the economy is looking into the worst job than what we had up there last night.
Oh, yeah, folks, Yeah, I don't I don't know what to tell you on both sides of opposite ends of the spectrum.
I mean, there are some political hard cores that will be encouraged by what they saw last night.
There are some that will be encouraged on either side.
There are some ah lot right now in the middle that seem to think that this is just a bad night for American politics.
Let's hope it's not a harbinger of things to come.
Let's hope this is a blip on the radar screen and weaken.
We could right the wrongs that were done last night, but America did not set a good example on, and anyone telling you different Um, just, you know, they'll use the excuse that we don't understand politics.
And the politics is about jabbing and being aggressive and about mudslinging.
It hasn't been for quite some time.
Maybe back in the days of you know, John C. Calhoun.
And, you know, the the early days of American politics where you know, doing things of that nature was the only way that you could get attention.
Maybe it was a different, you know, time a different place.
But this is the this is, you know, this is modern.
This is this is reality in the reality in which we live today.
And I just didn't see a whole lot of reality going on last night.
No, no, it was It was not.
I mean, I I'm when I saw you tweet at the second, you tweeted that I was like, I have to get this clip for today.
And I'm glad because I didn't tell you I didn't tell you, but you brought it up before we got it.
I I tried to surprise my co host here every once in a while and no, I thought that was hilarious.
I saw that I saw the tweet, and I am obviously immediately retweeted it.
But that was one debate, uh, that, you know, was certainly better than last night's. Another one.
Uh, Jim Leahy and Sam Lasko trailer park Boys.
That was a better debate.
Both were on drunken on drugs.
But, you know, I'm talking about Sam Wasco and, uh, and and Jim Leahy, not e no, I normally Yeah.
Oh, man, it's it's Look, we're making light of it.
Obviously, it's a serious stuff.
I mean, again, this does affect people.
This does impact people's lives.
And, uh, you know, I'll be the first to admit that, you know, uh, I have, um, or passive approach towards politics than than some I I tend to save my energy for sports debates.
Obviously, it's hard to be very passive now.
Uh, but at the same time, you know, it's it is.
I understand people's need to to not listen to to two old men combined age of nearly 160 years old.
You know, try toe, you know, insult each other like they're in third grade.
So hey, eso sue me if I don't find that appealing for any reason, But anyways, that's what we're here to talk about.
The reason I spent any time on that was solely because I wanted to play that clip, and I'm glad you threw in the mud slinging, uh, quote there as well.
Who, you see, Who is this acrobatic cow who somersaults around Gotham City and, uh, predict? If you ask the national media, they'd probably say it's Patrick Mahomes.
You know, if we're being really I mean, let's be, You know, let's be honest here.
I mean, if if someone asked to Who's that? Who's that? Caped Crusader, Bob.
All that stuff? Um, no, I guess that yes, that's my That's my poor attempt Teoh transition us back into, you know, sports.
Uh, anyways, it's Wednesday.
It's hump day today.
We're gonna have John Tap Chetty on.
We're gonna talk some MBA finals with him were obviously probably gonna talk.
Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.
Uh, you know, we normally do this on Tuesday, but, uh uh, schedules were conflicting, so we were gonna have him on today, and it kind of works out well, because again, we have a Game one of the MBA finals tonight between the Lakers and the heat.
But first, obviously, we will start with something.
I'm sure we we kind of expected.
Despite the, uh, nice start over the C titans have had several members of their staff.
Both players and, uh, staff members test positive for the coronavirus.
So there is ah, halt in them working at the facility until Saturday.
Their game with the Steelers is obviously in question whether or not it's going to take place Sunday, Uh, the NFL plans right now, uh, they want to continue with the game and, you know, which I'm not going to sit here, and and And I think I think at least the majority of people have have stopped the immediate, uh, cancel the season reaction.
You know, you still get that on Twitter anytime you see any of this stuff.
But I think I think there's a little bit mawr.
I don't want to say confidence, maybe faith that this will be managed properly because we have seen, you know, obviously in baseball we saw how awful they got off to a start.
And look, they're they're starting to play off season.
They started last night, so, you know, kudos to them for for managing the situation they had, uh, the NFL look, from from Day one has had this mentality of Look, we're we're moving forward.
Like business as usual with with the exception of obviously the limited capacity stadiums and and the precautions taken to, um ensure the safety of these players, um, and and and staff and all that involved in putting this production on.
So yeah, it Z concerning to an extent because obviously you prefer to have zero positive tests like the like the NHL has had throughout their entire return to play different cir***stances, of course.
But, um, I think you'd be naive to think that this wasn't going to happen at some point.
Now I think the important thing is, how does the NFL respond? How does the NFL react? I think they have options.
I think they have flexibility.
Um, they talked about pushing this game back till Monday if necessary.
And look, if this is something that becomes an issue with maybe a team or two down the road, you could just put every team on a break for a week or two.
You know what I mean? If if it becomes that necessary, because it's much harder to to, uh, reschedule football games as opposed to baseball games, you can't play doubleheaders.
There's gotta be a period of time between three end of one game and the next.
So, uh, there There is some issues and obstacles that way.
But, you know, it's gonna be very important to see how the the NFL manages manages this.
And, uh, you know the results.
And if this game gets played, because if it gets played and things get managed properly, you know what? I'm feeling a whole hell of a lot better about this season going off pretty pretty smoothly because it tells me that the NFL is really ready to handle this.
Yeah, This is gonna be a very big test for the NFL. Without question.
Obviously, the concern is right now for a long term player.
Health, long term player, safety.
Um, you look at the ripple effect, and that's something that I think a lot of people were worried about when they first heard about this.
The first thing you're thinking of is the officiating.
You're thinking of the players on the team.
You're thinking of the you know, the members of the front office of the Tennessee Titans.
You're thinking of the Minnesota Vikings? You're thinking of exactly what happened there.
Why? You know where these players allowed to go on the field.
What was the protocol? How are positive players that tested positive on Monday, able to take the field on Sunday and play without any type of being held back or any type of, um, notification or for lack of a better term and any type of four warning that these guys were positive or whatnot is the system you know, in place.
We saw all that yesterday, but at the same time, what we did see was that the NFL does have a protocol and procedure put in place.
They're going to follow it, and they're going to try to keep this game as normal as possible.
It would not surprise me to see the game pushed back a day.
I think they may push this back.
Until Monday, some people were even saying they could push it back until Tuesday.
I've heard a lot of arguments on Social media about Well, why don't you just immediately enact the bye week for the Steelers and for the Tennessee Titans? That could be problematic, folks.
If there is another cir***stance where the Tennessee Titans experienced more problems like this, they've already used thereby.
How do you go about doing that and rescheduling and then going about, you know, kind of, you know, making this season work to fit your narrative.
I think in a lot of ways that could be problematic.
So there are issues.
It is a possibility.
I mean, they could do that if worse came to worse.
I think we'll find out a little bit more within the next day or so the next.
You know, 24 to 48 hours.
Perfect timing here.
I'm actually speaking Thio Doctor Jessica Plane of Boston Sports Journal later today for locked on Patriots.
So going to definitely pick her brain on this a little bit.
She has a much more expert mind than I do on the subject, But the biggest concern right now is is the NFL properly equipped to handle not only this incident but also to help prevent more cases like this throughout the season? That's really where this is kind.
First sign of outbreak.
It seems to be a little bit more taking care of.
You alluded to that when you said that the panic that we saw yesterday amongst a lot of fans saying cancel the season has dissipated some I think cooler heads are prevailing there right now, but it's about preventing this in the future.
And what is the NFL going to be able to dio? We'll learn a lot more about how exactly how prepared they were for the scenario within the coming days.
Yeah, and and and again, I obviously it's a serious situation, and I think the days of just utter disaster, uh, the second story like this comes out.
It is behind us.
I mean, again, the concern Is there the legitimate concern? But I think there's a little bit more.
Like I said, faith in the management of what's going on and we've seen it in other leagues.
And I think the NFL is is, you know, despite their again their their determination to complete this season and do it on time and and, you know, eventually with as many fans as possible.
Um, yeah, that's that's their motivation and it always has been.
So that's why maybe sometimes you question whether or not they've really put the time in the effort into making sure that something when something like this happens that prepared and ready to respond and act quickly.
So, like you said Big test.
It's gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.
Obviously keeping a sharp eye on that doesn't count for you.
By the way, I e I I'm stealing a lot of your stuff today.
First it was Batman, you know? Yeah.
Okay, that that was a layup.
That was a nice Rondo layup for me.
So, um, so anyways, uh, excuse me.
Like I said, we're gonna have John Sa***e et on here in a little bit.
We're gonna talk, obviously, the finals.
We're gonna talk a little football, and, yeah, it's gonna be good.
So we got weak for coming up.
That's gonna be great.
Uh, the lightning or back in Tampa, You know, with the Stanley Cup, the Lakers and the Heat getting ready for the Stanley Cup final and are the MBA Final that that'd be very interesting that they're playing for the Stanley Cup final, Um, and, uh, the MLB playoffs of which again I will.
I will tell everyone one more time.
I have literally watched no baseball this season.
I really haven't so one of the reasons why I haven't commented too much on things going on is because I I really just haven't paid attention.
I do know that a majority of the Houston Astros lineup has seen a significant dip in there batting averages.
And that Z pretty funny.
Right? You know, you know, it's funny.
It's funny because, like, whenever you know these quote unquote cheating scandals, uh, you know what the Patriots happened? There's never been follow up.
Uh, you know, you know how refs go to the under the hood to to confirm a touchdown to make sure that it actually happened? Um, we don't see any of that.
So, like, obviously, we always kind of asked the NFL.
Okay, well, you know, we're just waiting for those ps PS ID numbers. Surely.
Surely, after a season in which you just clobbered the patriots and claimed cheating and all this stuff, those numbers come out and that is just gonna be the nail on the coffin.
That's gonna be the victory lap.
That's gonna be the trophy you hold up to To just prove how legitimate your investigation.
Waas. Um Still waiting.
Still waiting? Not not Not a people. Exactly.
And then and then hold on.
Hold on one second. One second.
I'm on a roll here.
He's on a roll. Yeah, exactly.
Well, you know, my point being my point being is like, you know, people come up with these crazy theories as toothy the positive effects of patriots cheating.
But none of those things there ever disproven when cheating stops.
You know what I'm saying? So, like, in the Astros case, you know, they're scandal was was presented to us.
Uh, it was laid out as an advantage for the offense, obviously, because it allowed them to e mean, no, at a much higher percentage.
What pitch was coming? Well, they all had great hitting averages.
Um, this whole thing gets on coverage.
Uh, then all of a sudden, all of their batting averages dips significantly.
So So there's cause and effect there.
There's never been cause and effect with any sort of Patriots scandal.
And I know I'm kind of getting off on a tangent here, but just thinking about this whole Astro situation got this popped into my head.
It's like the flight gate.
It's like, Oh, they fumble that, you know, such a absurdly low rate before to flight.
I mean, all this is disproven, by the way.
I'm just throwing out talking points.
Rates stayed the same.
So? So where's the cause and effect? Or is not? Because there's no there's no cheating, you know? You know what I'm saying? So does that make sense? Or is this just one of my you know, random thoughts that I'm just using this as a platform for my crazy mike? Don't answer that.
Well, not e other aspects of your life.
No, I think you're absolutely right when it comes to this.
Look, there's always been when a cheating scandal happens, you measure it by how a team is able to do following being caught following the curtain, being pulled back.
Patriots always better.
With the Astros.
You're seeing that sudden.
You know what? Maybe they needed those trash can banging in the background in order to find out what pitch was coming.
You know, you look at a guy like Jose Altuve that that drop is significant.
You know, Korea is off.
Bregman is off is well, you know, there are very significant drop offs for these guys.
And you have to wonder, and I don't think anybody is really wondering why it's happening.
It's pretty obvious you look at the way the Patriots have responded, and not only have they been as good after these cheating scandals, they've been better.
Eso I don't think it was a situation where these quote unquote scandals where anything that was giving them and over the top competitive advantage Thean Teng gritty of the game is basically just now Let's nail the Patriots to the wall because I'm sick of seeing that flying Elvis.
I'm sick of seeing Bill Belichick and Tom Brady so any excuse that we couldn't hold onto to convince ourselves they're really not that good.
We're gonna What are we gonna do, folks? We're gonna drink sand, and that's exactly what they did.
You got so many catch phrases I can't keep up with keeping a tally.
There's so many of them.
Well, you know, we're gonna we're gonna come out with our own product line.
I mean, we kind of do already actually been thinking about this.
We're gonna have our own product line for for full FBC Radio live all of our T shirts.
It would be like Mike Catchphrases.
You know, I think we're trying to get I'm trying to get the New England Transit Authority trending for this Patriots running attack.
It's not working the way I hope, but so you know what? Let's use the power of the let's use the power of social media to try.
We'll give away some shirts, will, you know, drinking the sand.
You know, that'll be like your slogan.
Sure, you know, like wrestling t shirts.
But like, you know, for us, you know, I don't know, a two very least at the very least.
Well, if you start selling drinking the sand, I think people are gonna say, Would we rather drink the sand and listen to these two z Be a little difficult.
Well, hey, you, at the very least, we're getting people to think and to to Deb bait.
And then that's that's all we want to do.
And if it's debating whether or not to listen to us or or drink sand, well, guess what? We We accomplished what we we set out to do.
But, you know, at the very least, I think we might have to get a Glendon Debate 2020 shirt.
Just saying I'm waiting for my right now.
I just have my regular full press coverage logo T shirt on.
But I am waiting for my e.
Yeah, that would that would be our slogan.
Why the heck not? Oh, man.
Actually, I I think it would be, uh, okay, if we're if we're gonna have a slogan.
Okay? Now, now we're really getting off, And maybe some of our listeners gonna help. I know Claire can help.
Maybe she can come up with something Um, we could use for a slogan for our campaign.
So if it was me and you running where you will, you know, we won't say who's who.
You know who co presidents, you know? Um, yeah.
And And I will be like the presidential odd couple.
I'm getting this image in my head, and it's just, uh exactly on.
You know what? We'd still be better than what we have, but I got to throw it out there.
If you have an idea.
If you if maybe you have a slogan that we can use, send it in the SportsCastr chat.
Everything's rolling nice and smoothly.
Let us know what it could be.
626310 Triple eight to, of course, you can always tweet us to at FBC Radio Live and at full press radio.
I know I haven't checked, but again, I'm expecting a tweet from Claire very soon.
Letting us know what we should use as our slogan.
Maybe we'll have a little fun with it, So, um, I don't even know where I was going with it.
I don't know how we got off on that, but basically, we're just We're pumping our own ego here because you know what? We would vote for ourselves, right? Absolutely.
All right. That's good.
I never wanted to vote for anything myself in my life.
That debate last night.
If I run, they're running against these guys.
You know what my my my platform would obviously be, uh, Pat Mahomes is not the greatest quarterback of all time.
Let's settle down with the hourly coordination Missouri and I'm willing to lose.
That has I'm campaign.
You could do worse.
Could you could do worse if that If that doesn't sum up our show in a nutshell.
I don't know what does.
So I think this is a good time to take a break.
We will be back, though, in just a couple minutes.
And when we do, we'll have John Snapchat eon We will talk to him.
Maybe he'll have a slogan campaign slogan for us.
We'll be back in just a couple minutes.
Hey, we're back.
We're back. We're back.
We're back Wednesday, last day of September.
Tomorrow is October and, uh, greatest month of the year e a little bias, but it is the greatest month of the year.
We got the greatest guest of all time.
Yeah, you know, I don't want I don't want to turn this into a backhanded compliment because that's what I'm gonna do when we talk about Patrick Mahomes here in a minute.
But I truly mean this when I say this is the greatest guest we could bring on.
John sapa Chetty John, we missed you yesterday.
We're glad to have you today.
How are you doing? I'm doing fine, guys.
Thank you so much for playing.
You're setting me up, possibly possibly possibly.
Well, I mean, you did send me a Ah, very, uh, just you know, Hey, you know, stats, news, information on a particular player.
And look, I was eager to talk to you today about this because, you know, I will, Like Mike and I said yesterday, Mike is here.
I'm gonna try to let him talk a little bit more today.
Mike, you're feeling good.
You're feeling ready, Thio, move those lips a little bit today.
I'm inspired by listening to the Okay, that's enough.
That was mean, but yes, uh, that that was a I don't know if you heard the clip, John, but it was It was a much better yes way go. We're going to start a movement.
I I was truly excited to talk to you today for a number of reasons.
Obviously, though, I do wanna talk Monday night football for a little bit because, um, Mike and I talked about it yesterday.
Were obviously both impressed with with Patrick Marleau's performance, there's no doubt about that.
There's no, um uh there's no I'm never going to say he's a bad player.
I think that's some people jump to conclusions and say, Oh, you think you just don't think he's got no, That's that's foolish.
Of course, I think he's good.
I don't think Mitch Robiskie is good.
That's that's who.
I don't think it's good.
Um, we can agree on that. Yeah, exactly.
Were, you know, very, very, very much so, uh, but what? I you know what I and I say it all the time is and and it happened again last, you know, Monday and happens every single time.
Patrick. Well, it starts with the football.
Um, people over exaggerate what he does.
And I mean, if you if you were and I told this to Mike yesterday, if you were Thio have watched football for the first time on Monday night, there's a couple things you would have believed that were happening for the very first time.
Never before thought off.
First, no one has ever thrown a pass to fullback.
Um, that's still being talked about is if it had happened for the first time, and it was the most creative thing ever to happen on the face of the football field.
It's like guys, come on. I mean it. It was a great play.
That's the thing.
Great play applied it.
Don't act like it's the first time it happened in NFL history.
Second patch Bones.
So it's a touchdown pass to the back of the end zone once again.
Great throw, no doubt about it. Awesome.
He's not the first person to do it.
It's not the most like, godly of throws toe happen and so on and so forth.
And, you know, you get people with reactions on Twitter.
It's like and in very condescending to It's like, I hope we all understand what we're watching here with Patrick Mahomes and that That was a national media guy.
And I'm just sitting here thinking like, Are you kidding me? Like, come on.
Like And then then you have other blue check marks out there and I'm not lumping you in there.
Of course, John. Of course, John.
Just saying in general that No, no, no, I don't I'm not going to do that. No, for sure.
I want one of those, You know E Yeah, Well, trust me, I e Yeah, they're Ugo.
Well, it's like you know, other folks out there saying, like, we haven't seen quarterback play like this, uh, in a long time, and I'm sitting here and like this, you'll appreciate I know what I'm sitting there banging my head.
I'm like, I mean, what's a long time? Is it Is it more than 24 hours? Because, um, I just saw Aaron Rodgers play phenomenally and do a lot of these things, and you know, it can.
The hyperbole kills me.
The the over, uh, inflation of everything that happens with Patrick Mahomes with the blindness of the or the hip hip of ignoring all the benefits that he has after spending years and years and years knocking Brady, Rodgers and other quarterbacks for benefiting from other things.
You know what I'm saying? Like Rogers always has This or Brady always has this, and it's like you're sitting there thinking you're like, Wow, Patrick Mahomes has arguably the best offensive mind in the game right now.
I you know, and he has a long track record of that with many different quarterbacks and different teams.
Um, incredible amount of talent surrounding him.
I mean, I I how many times are you going to throw the ball down the field and have ah, wide receiver have 15 yards of separation and no one around him.
When we see it happen all the time and look, that's credit to him.
That's a credit to the entire offense.
But I'm saying that doesn't always happen.
So but those throws get touted as unbelievable, incredible, pinpoint accuracy.
And I'm like, Okay, yeah, I mean, they're great plays.
It sets up a big play.
It turned into a touchdown, you know, with the throw accurate.
I mean, he's thrown into a spot, so it's hard to really tell how accurate it is.
But, you know, Hey, it is what it is.
But the thing is, it's this, uh, immediate just disconnect from anything that's ever happened, not only in the history of the NFL, but in the immediate history, as in less than a day prior.
And then it just It drives me crazy, John.
And I hope you can appreciate that.
I think you appreciate that.
Um, I know you like Patrick Mahomes.
I like Patrick Mahomes.
I dio I love watching him play.
I enjoy watching him play.
I just don't think he's the greatest quarterback of all time.
I don't think he's the best quarterback in the league right now, and that's that's just how I feel about it.
Well, I mean, we have three quarterbacks, but I think right now we're playing at a different level than everyone else.
Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson in the Aaron Rodgers and again Rogers past two.
Allen was on Sunday night set up a touchdown that was better than any throw in. Exactly.
The best passes just past the weekend because he was rolling to his left became to an immediate stop.
Which is not easy to do, especially for 36 years old.
And he just dropped it right to Allen was again, Um, maybe had a step on the corner back, and I get that.
You know Mahomes throw to Nicole ****man, which sailed 55 yards in the air while he was fading to the left as well, and he threw it to the other side of the field is incredibly impressive as well.
And then we see what Russell Wilson does on on a weekly basis.
Um, you know, essentially covers all the sins of the Seattle New York, whose defense is atrocious UM, who doesn't have really a great running game, Pretty offensive lines, getting good weapons and offend those three guys who have separated themselves because they can all come from behind with Mark Jackson hasn't proven quite yet.
Um, but I think it is a recency bias.
Russell Wilson has been around for almost a decade, and he's kind of a I'm not gonna call him a phony off the field.
He's just a gram positive and seems so only a time.
But Mr Unlimited E couldn't help myself a whole, because that's who he is, you know, even talk to his family.
He's arrogant, and people that don't like him will say he's too arrogant for me.
I'm like, Well, made me a great office That is an arrogant and you won't be able to find one.
Holmes's new He's in his third year. He's fresh.
There's a certain panache that he plays with a lobster curry.
That's the basketball compa.
Patrick Mahomes was like kind of doing things that has been done before the equipment.
We've seen other three point shooters, but not quite like Steph Curry, in terms of the difference of his shots and equipment of the release.
Eso We're seeing a lot of fun and even engaging.
Guy seems to be a great leader, just a great kids.
He's easy to root for, and I think the component to with that is really right.
I mean, Brady played for Bill Belichick, so it was kind of just, you know, Dr later, uh dot feel to it right? Rodgers played the Mike McCarthy who appeared to be more of a Milwaukee cough than a coach of the Green Bay Packers.
Uh, Andy Reid is gloved.
I mean, doesn't like Andy Reid looking granddad on.
It's a weird combination and you know it za moment.
I mean, he's a star in the NFL right now.
Well, the question I will call him back.
And I believe it was March guys that said, Let's not crown him the boat yet.
Remember, we're going in that direction.
I agree with that, but I think he has the ability to be that because these abilities off the charts and he also seems to be a very hardworking guy. Smart.
He's starting to win battles at the line of scrimmage pre snap, which you know things.
Brady Brees and Rodgers have always been able to do it.
Now he's doing that as well.
So I think he's, uh, you know, I think he's a good kid and I like him and I liked him.
You know, he kind of spoke up about social injustice, and I like that Aaron Rodgers doesn't have a lot to, And that's why those are my two favorite quarterbacks.
Watchers are still my guy, Um, but the homes is probably gonna be the heir apparent.
And then I kind of like the fact that Homeserve records are going up around Rogers.
Well, that comes full circle.
No, I look, I I I don't have anything to hate about him.
Like I said, I It's more of a reflection on the coverage.
And like, Look, Aaron Rodgers got a lot of the similar things, but, you know, maybe again.
And I mentioned this yesterday, maybe because it was kind of at the infancy of social media, the Twitter Twitter had just come out in 2000 and nine.
So, you know, it was it was really early on and all that.
So, um, I don't think it got quite the coverage, but at the same time.
I don't remember this much over the time like there was over the top.
I mean, again, people wanted to crown him the goat, you know, to seasons into his career.
And it was, Oh, if if he had this, he'd win 10 Super.
And you know Okay, I can live.
I can live with that because some of that's just absurd.
But it's like you weren't getting that as much from the national, uh, coverage, whether it's, ah, NFL show or just a sports show. Whatever.
You weren't getting that as much you'd have your, you know, your Aaron Rodgers guys.
But, you know, it wasn't as much as it is now.
And it's just like I feel like it's just I don't know.
I It just bugs me sometimes because I feel like again I mean, thinks, Yeah, go ahead.
Oh, more like, Oh, of course, of course, yeah, yeah.
Live nine hours a day, but they talk about the same two things all day.
It's pretty impressive.
Yeah, and LeBron James? Yeah, it is somewhat similar to Tom Brady.
Been around forever, and the last three or four years or even longer.
We've been hearing about you know someone's going to supplant.
LeBron is the best player in basketball, you know, Probably won back to back M V.
And then it was less Brooklyn and it was all right.
And then Durant beat him in the final that Oh, these guys are better than LeBron.
Last year was Kawhi Leonard was gonna plant.
The King is the best player in basketball.
No, this is one back to back MVPs.
He's back home watching the finals.
Brady's kind of like LeBron.
We've taken them for granted, right? So that they've been around two decades, so we're always looking for the next guy.
And also the fact that Lett's agree on this Mahomes is infinitely more fun to watch than Brady.
Brady is the greatest quarterback ever.
I'm not saying he's not, but E would say he is.
He is the greatest quarterback of all time, no question, but in terms of your fun and joy.
But if you're a kid, who you gonna watch? Yeah, well Oh, sure.
Basically, I'm a 57 year old kid e a za Muchas anything and will be again.
I'm not taking anything away from these phenomenal he's still playing a ridiculously high level.
But if he feels more corporate, where's Patrick? Mahomes feels mawr, you know, broken hip.
Andi, that's the society we live in. And that's okay.
And I and I I do agree with that.
Like I might have spoken too soon about letting you speak today because it might not Happy e want to get the hashtag trending.
So in order to do that, I gotta just basically dominated.
You know, I'm gonna let him get here in a minute.
But every you keep saying things that that spark, uh, points for me that I want I want to bring up because I I agree with, you know, kids for sure.
I mean it matter of perspective, though for me, like I I do like the flashy play shirt.
It's exciting, but at the same time like to sit there and watch someone go up and down the, you know, just a slice and dice Ah, team.
And the most like robotic way is entertaining to me as well.
So it's like and again, maybe that's a little little bit of bias or whatnot, but my example and I brought this up to Mike yesterday was, um I think he does things different.
Different doesn't mean better in my eyes. Necessarily.
For example, he you know, the little jump pump fake, uh, pass play that he made, you know, You know, he jumps up in the air pump fakes.
It's like, Oh, my God, that's incredible.
Everyone's like, you know, throwing up their arms Like saying, Oh, Patrick Mahomes doing Patrick problems.
Things Well, guess what? Brady rolls out to the right pumps Fake, doesn't jump, completes and makes the same exact play.
But But, well, that's what I'm saying, but it's not necessary.
That's the thing.
It's not a necessary skill.
It's nice. It's flashy.
It's like, you know, maybe you.
You know, it's not as a noxious is this, But maybe you put an extra exhaust on your car and make it louder.
Is it important to the structure of the car? No.
Can you still do exactly what you're doing without that? Absolutely.
But can I just make one? Yeah, yeah, Talking to Patrick Mahomes does on the football field that Brady just can't dio.
It's beyond just a pump, fake jumps and all of those things he made to throw the other night.
I actually thought his most impressive throat was when he avoided the past, where I rolled to the left and on the run through about a 20 yard dot to see me.
I would never do that, you know, still had incredible on talent, but he couldn't move like those guys.
And I discussed that with people.
I say, Well, Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback of all time, That's not even We're not having that discussion in terms of arm talent for Homes and Rogers of the two best now, even better than Russell Wilson and Marino was the guy when I was growing up.
That was like, This guy's incredible from the football.
John Elway was the better quarterback.
Marino has a better on balance, so please let Mike speak.
This is this'll is my last and final point.
I swear to you, because again these to keep coming back.
And I don't wanna lose this.
Um, it is not him.
This is This is why I talked.
This is this. Allow Mike to eat.
I I know he has a lot of Yeah, that's also that's what that waas, but no.
So you know again, when it comes to the things that Mahomes and Rogers do that Brady can't.
And you know all too often, though, people associate that with lesser ability when and when I should have Dunmore than what he's done.
Well, what Brady has done has only one.
The most of any player of all time is in the top five of essentially every single, uh, passing statistical category, often out and throwing open hip passes 40 yards down the field.
That's just not part of his game.
Does that make him worse than Aaron Rodgers? No.
But you know the totality of their career.
You can you can, you know, put it together.
And so so again, Like I said, if people say Oh, yes, no, seriously, like yes.
No, I'm kidding. Died.
I think you've You guys have really nailed it on both sides.
Look, I think that, uh, disheartening comes from with a lot of this is the rush to judgment on the fact of the media and anointing the next big thing.
And John, you hit on this.
When it comes to LeBron, it's just in in the NFL.
In basketball, it's in all different wards.
You want to market the next big thing, because what is it? It's good for Brand.
It keeps the brand going.
If you keep going out there and saying, Oh, well, here's what Patrick Mahomes is doing out of football field.
But you've seen Aaron Rodgers do this.
You've seen Russell Wilson do this.
You've seen this guy do this all of a sudden, it becomes okay.
Well, it's part of the narrative.
It almost becomes quote unquote vanilla.
It's very, you know, bland.
It's not cutting edge.
It's not if it's not up and coming on.
Whereas if you market things that Patrick is doing by saying we've never seen this on a football field before, all of a sudden, that's intriguing.
That raises the eyebrow that keeps the sharp eye sharp and all of a sudden you're looking at it, going okay, Yeah, this is exactly what we want to do.
We want to tune in.
This is what we should be watching and you see it in basketball.
You see it with John as you mentioned that we mentioned, you know, Jimmy Butler right now is ah, hot name because of the success of the Miami Heat.
Um, you're seeing a lot of it, you know, And, uh, not so much in in baseball and hockey.
I think there tends to be a little bit more of, Ah, overarching hockey doesn't know how to market their stars anyway.
E, I agree with you on that Baseball.
But in baseball, you tend to think of Trout at a higher level than most of the other players.
I think Mookie is ascending to that level, but in a lot of ways.
What? What you look at right now, especially in the NFL, is the branding of the next generation.
And I think that's why you see it to bring up the fact that this is the greatest we've ever seen.
When Patrick's career is still reaching its peak, I think that's scary. At that point.
I think that this guy still hasn't completely reached the plateau he wants to reach, and I believe Patrick could be the first to admit that.
I think if you put sit him down, ask him, Are you at the pinnacle of where you need to be? He'll look at you and probably just say Absolutely not.
I'm still learning a humble kid, and he is, and that's exactly what's going to make him better.
At the end of the day, I think all these records he may end up being the greatest quarterback we've ever seen.
But to say it now almost seems a little disingenuous.
It seems like a rush to judgment, and I think that's what turns people off like in and myself.
When it comes to the marketing surrounding him, It's never been about what Patrick is doing on the field.
I, for one, am nervous to watch this game on Sunday as a Patriots fan and as someone that covers the team.
But in a lot of respects, I'm really looking forward to it because you never know what this kid is capable of doing on a football field.
So that's my two cents on the subject.
That's really more about the narrative than it is about the player itself.
And I think that's true of really any.
I think that's true of any major professional athlete that's ever been both beloved and vilified by, you know, two sets of fan bases or the media itself.
I will say though I will say the one athlete that kind of helps or doesn't help his cause some were going to talk about just now.
No, I look, I I'm not going to say it's all on him.
Obviously we I I agree with that.
I think you know, when we talk about these things, a lot of it is about the people like us who talk about these things.
That's that's where these narratives come from and they grow and and that's what frustrates us.
It's not like Patrick Mahomes is up there doing this.
He's not a wrestling heal up there, you know, doing a interview with Bobby the brain Heenan on his side, uh, telling you how he is the best in the world.
But, um, LeBron might LeBron might like I like I don't think anyone Whoa, I mean his, you know, the in this word is just part of the lexicon of of sports debate on Twitter.
His stands, as they say, would probably, you know, not admit that he's very not humble person, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing.
I mean, sometimes you got to be a little arrogant, but he and I brought this up the other day.
I you know him sitting on the court like he knows when the cameras are on him.
You know what I'm saying? And and my and part of my issue with him, Yeah, part again.
It's rooted in in the in.
The Celtics and Cavaliers arrive early early in his career.
Obviously, that's where some of that disdain comes from, but he doesn't do himself any favors.
I do think at times he can be very, very fake, you know? And that's not that has nothing to do with his ability on the court, though, you know, So it s so again there's there's personal things I have, where maybe that seeps into my my judgment of him.
Um, you know, obviously we disagree about who's the greatest and who's not.
But, you know, here we are 2020 and the Lakers and I was wrong about this.
I was trying to will it? But you know, when you have four double digit leads in four games and you lose them, you don't deserve to go to the finals just yet.
So maybe next year it's, Ah, Celtics year.
But you got the Lakers.
You got the heat.
I mean, you know, Look, I'm pretty excited for this, you know, despite my again, you know, LeBron is a, uh, you know, you put him on TV, you know, he's gonna attract ratings, You know, you've got the added element of the heat being his.
You know, the team he won his first title with, You know, Pat Riley.
So on and so forth.
It's a great story.
I think there's a lot of story lines to it, and I think you're going to see a pretty pretty good matchup.
Um, I'm guessing, John, you're gonna You're going with the heat, all right? Not the heat.
The Lakers in this. I'm gonna go with the heat four.
I get scared me for I was like, Whoa.
Doubt Mavericks 2011.
Okay, there you go.
Well, I know that that's the blight on.
But my question with people that continually bring that up and it was bad, he should have been an average up, two games to one, and it's just he throws, he throws in the final.
The pressure was too much for him, but he's acquitted himself quite well since is when it have been better.
If you just lost in the Eastern Conference finals and not gone to the Finals, I mean, Bale is bringing up three, 63 and six, and hopefully it's gonna be four and six in about a week and a half.
Like getting to the finals.
And losing is better than losing in the first round of the playoffs.
E think we can agree with that.
That's why we elevate great even high.
Oh, yeah, and I think Brady's accomplishments a better than Jordan, right? All I hear about with six and 06 Finals MVPs, great.
The other years he didn't make the finals.
Those would be considered failures, right? I mean, great with a nine stand Super Bowl, LeBron Stones with 10th, eh? NBA Finals.
I mean, that's unheard off.
I mean, there's, like, him and Russell, uh, that have been able to accomplish that in Korea or very long career.
Did Jerry Jerry West? I think the did Jerry West one all the time and lost and bring that up **** low.
Elgin Baylor Elgin Baylor never won a championship.
I think he's the greatest NBA player to not have a championship, so there's a lot of that stuff that goes on.
But I think in terms of of LeBron um in this Siri's to get into the nuts involved.
If Miami tries to use three because he will absolutely break it down like a great quarterback does, he'll penetrate.
He'll set up three point shooters who are good, not great.
But you can find one of them to get hot, whether it's Danny Green or KPP Anthony Davis's permission from three.
Rondo even hits. **** three.
I'm more confident Rondo hitting threes in a free throw.
He's got enough weapons to make him, you know, do what he has to do.
And if if, if they try to collapse within Lane, he's not. Be honest.
He's gonna find open shooters.
He's gonna allergy to Anthony Davis or Dwight Howard.
And the thing is, we saw how the Celtics were able to be successful against Miami, right by driving to the basket.
Well, LeBron James is the greatest driving to the basket the sports ever seen, so I think that's a bad matchup for Miami.
The key is Game one.
The Lakers win and show their superior.
Then maybe this bubble will literally burst for the Miami Heat because I think they're playing with a lot of emotion, a lot of momentum.
They have never trailed in a Siri's.
If they get down one game to nothing and the Lakers can exert their superiority, then I think we'll have a five game Siri's.
If Miami wins tonight.
Now the pressure gets on the Lakers.
Well, and as much as I was, I was saying, You know, hey, the Celtics don't didn't deserve to get to the Finals If you continue to blow leads like they did, the point remains, they were up significant Lee and in several games in this series.
So you know, that's why it's like, you know, my my heart once I want the Heat, the win.
Obviously, you know, a Celtics fan, I could never root for the Lakers, regardless of who's on there, you know I can't root for the Lakers.
Why would I ever want that? Um, but my guts telling me that the Lakers are gonna pull this one off, and and I I'm kind of with you that I think the heats run is going to come up a little short.
I like what they've done.
I really like a lot of their guys on the team now that I've removed myself from the Siri's with the Celtics, you know, But I just don't think that this match up is this just in their favor, Like you said.
I mean, they have trouble defending drives to the basket, and well, now you get the best in the league at that, so, you know, good luck.
So, uh, John, I'm glad we got some Lakers and, uh, heat talking here even though, uh, Mike dominated the conversation for the first half of this segment.
So you just can't shut me up per usual.
Yeah, A pretty much.
And guess what? The combined this entire show.
We made more sense in the entire debate last night, so I'll take that as a win A s.
You guys don't interrupt each other.
No one called each other a clown.
Told you to shut up. I think neither.
Neither of us dodged.
Um uh, you know what? I'm not even gonna get into it, because yeah, I think we all know that.
He's just I think I think I think I think we all understand that he's just a vile human being and I'll leave it at that.
Folks, thank you very much for listening to our rants and raves.
Uh, you know, I assure you that I am not the oldest of the group.
I am actually the youngest.
Um, take that for what it's worth and, you know, whatever.
So on behalf of the old guy of the group, Mr John SAPA Chetty and the second old guy of the group Mr Mike debate, we want to say goodbye.
Have a great rest of your evening Wednesday, Hump day.
Because guess what, Mike.
October is anniversary month.
We got our one year anniversary being on the weak are being on the air every single day, just about every single week since last October.
So we're getting pretty excited about that.
