no, nothing's courses acting up and not connecting right now.
Yeah, here we go.
And with that, we welcome you back once again to SportsCastr news.
Where, of course I'm Adam, are break.
That's Keith McPherson.
And we are talking all things, eh? NBA and the pool just got weaker.
It just got smaller by one.
We knew the Lakers air are lying in wait here in the finals last night, A Game six opportunity for the Miami Heat to close out the Celtics or for the Celtics to make a statement.
And let's stay on the on the on the right side of things.
The positive side of things.
The story just keeps going right for them as they close out the Celtics. And six.
Just what's your What was your initial take? You expected it, right? You had called for you called from Miami to take this Siri's at the start.
Yeah, I've been calling for Miami since in the bubble games in the the seating, the seating games.
I was looking at this, this Miami team and how they were playing from not just Jimmy and Bam, but even the guys off their bench, like drag egx Derrick Jones Jr.
There's there's so many guys on this team that could do it.
I wasn't surprised at all.
If anything, I was surprised that the heat didn't get it done in five.
You know, you know the funny thing, too, is that for the Celtics, like it may be ends up being, um, or disappointing result for them because you're playing the Miami Heat as opposed to maybe the Milwaukee Bucks, right? Like, I don't think you talked about wanting to get to the Eastern Conference finals.
That would've been a nice achievement for this Boston Celtics team.
And unfortunately, as it breaks out the way it does, then you see the heat there and on paper, probably the Celtics.
Hey, we caught a break here.
We're not gonna face you, honest.
Well, easy path to the finals.
I wonder where that disappointment level stands for them between saying this is actually where we thought we were gonna get.
And it's a nice achievement for this season versus did we miss an opportunity knowing what the Eastern Conference is gonna look like next year with some with some new teams.
Brooklyn, come back healthy.
You know that Milwaukee is gonna be back with some wrinkles, like it's gonna be more congested.
They may have missed what would have been a really sweet window to jump in.
This is such a rare year.
It's, uh, it's It's something none of us ever expected with the bubble, Obviously with Shutdown, we're looking at the number five seed Miami Heat going to the finals, and it's a team, right? And everyone's been talking about them not having a superstar, but no, Jimmy is a superstar.
Bam is also a superstar.
Tyler hero is a young, emerging superstar.
They have superstar talent.
This is just a cohesive team and unit.
And yeah, when you talk about the Celtics in the East and the Bucks and I guess what everybody thought it was gonna be this year, right? I guess it could look like, you know, a let down for the Celtics team that, you know.
Everyone was expecting them to get to the finals in the last couple of years, and you know, that's basically why they made all those moves.
They had those high draft picks like that's what everyone thought.
But the thing about the MBA.
It's not what you what you thought.
It's not what you think.
It's, you know who is the most prepared, who's the most ready? And the Heat just seemed like they've got it from top to bottom.
They show Pat Riley during the game, and he's glaring down knowing what type of team he put together.
This guy's just quietly, humbly leading these guys in the background, but he has to get his respect.
Is one of the best coaches in the MBA and then on the floor.
Whoever's night it is, you know, if it's Tyler Heroes night to drop 30. Cool.
If it's Bam's night to drop 30 plus cool, I'm really enjoying seeing what the heat have done, and it kind of makes for a great storyline with them going to the finals against LeBron, who everyone expected the number one seed out of the West King James A. D.
That dynamic duo, one of the best duos we've ever seen now going to face against a complete team that doesn't have necessarily a duo or Big Three.
Um, they said that this is the first year I think in I don't know how long, but obviously we've been watching the MBA and seeing the Warriors go to the finals every year, or LeBron and the Cavs go every year.
And they said this is the first year that two teams that didn't make the playoffs last year will be facing off in the final.
So I guess finally, there's more parity in the league.
You know, it's not what you thought.
It's not the teams you were expecting.
And you gotta love that in this weird 2020 year in this coronavirus stoppage Orlando bubble idea coming toe life.
I love that we're going to get a match up between the heat where LeBron wanted and they, you know, they haven't won it since 2014 you know, now they got a whole another team except Udonis Haslem shot to him as well.
I love him being the like Mascot Slash, like O G man running.
Yeah, he's like he's the grandfather of the of the Heat.
He's like he's like the Godfather of the Heat.
Rather, um, I don't know.
I can't wait to watch the finals Wednesday.
Well, and that's the MBA is one of the sport's relative to the NFL, where a lot of different things can happen over the course of the year.
In the playoffs, MBA can be pretty set in terms off coming into the season.
These the teams, we expect to be there at the end, and that's usually who ends up being there.
So even the Clippers getting picked off makes it more interesting whether or not you thought would have been a better matchup against the Lakers or the Clippers have gone through.
It's just it's just exciting that the Nuggets were able to knock off the Clippers, the team that you assumed it was going to be in the Western Conference finals.
Likewise, on the Eastern Conference side.
Like you say, Miami comes out of nowhere and really to your point about balance.
When you have a rookie like hero in this kind of feeds into my take away from from the Boston Boston heat, Siris in general Boston, Miami Syriza's you know heroes ableto bubble up moments not too big for him.
You're talking about bam! Out of Bio who joins just Shaquille O Neal, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade is the Onley.
Miami Heat players to record 30 plus points, 10 plus rebounds and five plus assists in a postseason game.
Hero took care of Dwyane Wade's rookie record for points scored in a playoff game earlier in this syriza's well, and the difference to me is during the year you saw band coming on, you could tell this guy's a playmaker, but he's got a new dynamic and a new level inside these playoffs.
Hero has stepped up inside these playoffs.
Even though he's the the engine or the motor of this team, he doesn't have to be the Leave dog here.
And when you went, I went back into stat lines through for Boston on this Siri's around this game.
Even last night, you got exactly what you thought from all your key players 20 plus from Tatum and you get smart and you get and you get Jalen Brown.
Everyone's kicking it in and contributing, and it's just not good enough.
And you know that you really don't have anything on that roster this year that you can look to and say, Well, maybe one of the Williams is gonna do something for us and be dynamic, and I think if you're gonna overachieve to some extent like the heat, at least on paper, have done you Now at this point it into the finals.
If you're gonna overachieve, you need some mystery questions there that get answered in a really positive way in the playoffs, as opposed to saying this is who we are Unless you have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, you go.
This is who we are.
You know, we're rolling with our two guys.
They're going to get us there and everybody else will kick in and contribute.
But for Boston, I just think Now you look at this roster and you say, Wow, if this is who we are for the next handful of seasons, Kemba Walker clearly is a great locker room and leader.
But he's not a guy that takes over games.
You love Tatum, but you just wonder about these parts.
You're gonna get an opt in from Gordon Hayward.
He's gonna come back on a big contract.
You got big money invested in Campbell Walker.
You have big money invested in Jalen Brown.
And that's okay.
You still have a nice deal for Tatum.
But they're in this weird spot now.
you come back into next season, then I think even Matt Brooks.
And maybe you and I talked about this too.
They need a big they need a bam out of bio of versatile four or five that can do a lot of different things for you.
But they're in this weird spot, man.
Now, where I actually come out of this bubble in these playoffs feeling worse than I did about Boston, not even from their core.
But just look around the east.
You may just end up being kind of this four or five seed and getting bounced in the first or second round because everyone else is rising up.
It's very It's very interesting to see how this bubble has changed.
Perceptions on a lot of teams specifically in the East.
And I mean, I was being Nets fans.
I kinda like it.
Actually, I love it.
Blow up the whole Celtics team rebuild.
No, they've got Jason Tatum.
We saw him last night.
Jason Tatum is a star and he's only 23.
He's gonna take another step.
Um, they just got to figure out some things like you mentioned Kemba, right? And you and I joked about Kyrie before we got on like, Oh, it's all Kyrie fault.
But yeah, there was a lot of talk about Kemba versus Kyrie and what Kemba was gonna be able to do for the Celtics versus Kyrie.
And, you know, now, looking into the future, the Celtics, they're gonna have to worry about Kyrie.
Because outside of the heat and the Bucks and some of the other teams the Raptors now you're gonna have to deal with Kyrie and Katie on the nets in the heat, Uh, in the east, Not just the heat, the bucks, the Raptors at the top.
So, yeah, they could slip a little bit.
They could fall to be in, like, a middle of the pack team in the East, Who knows? And, uh, they're gonna be.
There's gonna be a lot of questions for them.
The answer about the direction of where the team is going.
They have stars, you know.
They have guys Jalen Brown, Tatum, Jalen Brown, even Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward.
Like those those air solid guys that have on one squad.
But like you said, maybe they need another five Maybe they need to make one or two other moves.
I'm not worried about it.
Like like I'm a Nets fan.
I still hold a grudge from the trade.
I still hold a grudge from the years of not having a draft pick watching them draft guys like Tatum and Jalen.
I wish him no luck.
Hey, man, you You missed your window of opportunity.
The East is gonna shift in the power in the east depending on what happens in these finals, right? The power in the East is gonna be between think, Yannis and the books Miami And then, uh, your Brooklyn Nets.
So, man, when we get to it, I don't know.
But you also mentioned bam and ah, lot of people were talking about, you know, bam being one of the top maybe five centers in the league.
And you talked about the Celtics needing a better center.
And we've seen so much talk about Yokich in this bubble, I think people are really looking differently at, Like who might be the top five top center in the league.
Last night, this game was bam's game.
That's the first thing I said to you and, uh, slack when you as I said, Bam, let's do it because this guy turned it on and uh, was a Game five.
He didn't have a bad game, but he didn't really affect the game he had.
He played 38 minutes.
He had 13 points, eight rebounds, eight assists.
Like that's not a bad game.
But he took it like he had a bad game and he knew that he had to turn it on.
And then also, Jimmy Butler had said coming out in the game six, he was.
He's usually out there early, warming up and shooting, and he said, I'm not I don't need to do that today And someone asked him why he's like, I know what I need to do today.
He just kind of took a different mentality.
It close out mentality.
And I guess he differed a little bit.
Um, you know, But he was there for bam.
They had a couple of plays where Bam was just, you know, under the bucket.
Just give a little assist to Jimmy.
Jimmy is there for the lay, but then bam comes out in this Game six win and he has 32.
He has 14 rebounds, five assists.
And it was really his game till, like, I guess, put a stamp on this thing.
And I love to see it.
This, You know, this puts him in the company of LeBron d Wade, Shaquille O Neal and this heat, this heat team, if they're gonna go in and try and match up with LeBron and a d, they're gonna need bam to play lights out.
They're gonna need bam and I don't know what who probably Jimmy on LeBron Bam on a D for the most part.
And then we're going to see the Heat team that's built around, you know, the rest of these guys, how they match up against the Lakers.
And as much as I want to root for LeBron and say that it's LeBron and a D, this finals is going to be decided by the role players.
The other guys and the heat have so many other guys.
You saw it last night with Andre Iguodala stepping up.
Obviously you know, Tyler, hero, like they've got so many other guys in this cast that can do it, and I will take the Heat secondary guys over the Lakers secondary guys, probably 99 times out of 10.
So there's a couple of things are you mentioned? Joke it and bam.
And that's that's a big deal here that you're seeing in the n b A.
And everyone's always been complimentary about bigs that can can pass the ball.
And it seems like you think about Luke a dentist.
In this way, just from, ah, European basketball standpoint, that influence seems to have the quickest and most immediate impact for those players is court vision and passing.
They always seem to have that skills, skills that is very developed.
So you saw how effective that was for the Joker.
You're seeing how bam again when you got a 45 guy on the court and he's giving you 56 assists a game.
That just means that he's drawing attention.
You're getting free open looks around the floor, so that impact on how teams now look at that position further developing it, which is interesting for away from maybe saying Why don't even just be a three point shooter that stretch the floor for us like that from from deep.
He can also still do a traditionally inside out for us.
So it's it's gonna be interesting to see how that impacts other teams around the league.
You go into this match up now, that's the first thing you think is bam out of bio.
Okay, What is what the Lakers gonna try to do to to mitigate him? To shut him down is a d gonna be able to do that for stretches and really impact what Miami wants to dio.
And then you think about hero and I actually look another old another old guy out there Rajon Rondo and say, Boy, I know that you don't worry about what is going to give you off offensively necessarily.
But he may come out like a dog there and say when I see hero on the floor, I want in the game, I want the defensive assignment and I'm gonna put this kid to the test about what it is to be in championship finals basketball and what you're gonna face, because now you can.
From the Lakers perspective, you can say we can actually hone in on some of those types of looks and tell Ronnie, Listen, get out there and really put hero through the paces here.
If you could disrupt him a little bit.
All of a sudden, that sends a little bit of a wrinkle out there and says, Ken Robinson, pick up that slack, Indrajit.
You continue to be consistent from outside.
So will be interesting to see what type of wrinkles the Lakers throw at some good young, great young, complimentary players for Miami and how they approach it.
The other thing that I love coming into these Finals to, then you mentioned about bam and his mentality going to that into the Game six there.
Listen, this is the Jimmy Butler effect that you go back.
They talked about how hero took him on in practice and didn't back down from that.
You've seen how he's impacted.
Bam! On a bio like this is the Jimmy Butler dog kind of, you know, fighting the same thing that they've talked about from a Rajon Rondo playoff? Rajon Rondo like, I don't know how much stock you can put into it, but I don't think you can look past the idea of the identity of who the Miami Heat are.
Are through Jimmy Butler.
They're gonna score more points and maybe impact a game to game basis more than he is.
But he is three identity of that team, where he's like Do we are a gritty, hard nosed, hustling team, and that's important when you get deeper, deeper the public.
That is important, Especially when you're gonna take on the Lakers that on paper, have the two best players in the Siri's at least coming into it.
Yeah, I mean, promise to Jimmy Butler.
They spoke after the game last night when they were kind of accepting the Eastern Conference finals trophy, and I think it was Rachel Nichols who talked about him being drafted by Chicago.
Things not working out there, him going to Minnesota, quickly being in Philly and then landing in Miami and finding his basketball family is basketball, whom? And, yeah, I think that the situation in Miami is that he was able to come in and everyone respected him, and I think the team kind of mimics his demeanor, his attitude.
I think they all kind of follow Jimmy Butler.
They all kind of like you say they have that dog mentality like This is a group of dogs led by Jimmy Butler has a big dog, so I know they're not going to back down on the Ron.
I know they're going to go into the Siri's trying a win it.
We saw LeBron sitting on the floor kind of Indian style, like, you know, Job's not done job's not finished very, very Mamba mentality like, you know, throwing back to that clip of, uh, Kobe saying, Job's not done job's not finished, but I think the heat are gonna come in with a chip on their shoulder, not backing down the LeBron looking to take it.
And thats gonna be led by Jimmy Butler When you look at this team, right? Jimmy Butler's ITT's his first year on the team.
It's his first year, obviously, his rookie year.
He was drafted to be on this team.
They made the trade for its his first year on the team.
The rest of those guys pretty much were there, you know, they kind of had some role changes.
Like drag it drag.
It is starting now, but, you know, he came off the bench a lot and, uh, you know drag, which is a guy that everyone respects in this league For him, toe be humble enough to come off the bench for this Heat team tells you a lot.
Uh, they also made a trade for Drake Jae Crowder.
It's his first year on this team, so there's a new energy there, and I think it is led by the the addition of Jimmy Butler as the new like superstar there.
I can't wait to see how they match up.
Like you said with Rondo, Just click to me like John Calipari, like the the UK the uh not the United Kingdom, University of Kentucky.
These air the Wildcats.
This is their finals.
They got bam! They got Tyler hero that on the other side, they got a d.
There's some guys in this game from Kentucky that are gonna really be the stars of this Siri's.
I can't wait to see it.
I still got LeBron just because I just think man the king, the king knows that this is it, and you're going to see another level of LeBron's dominance, and you're going to see another level from him and a D turning it on and as much of a good team as the Heat have.
Like, I think it's just gonna be too much for them at times in their ah smart team to can't can't give Frank Vogel enough credit to.
I've really seen and heard some things about the team and from him in interviews where I'm like, Yo, he people.
People like to play the game and say that LeBron is the coach of every team he's on.
No, Frank Vogel is a legit coach, and he's got these guys in position to win, so I'm just very excited to see how they how they match up.
It's gonna be one of the best finals in a long time, right? You know, I spoke about how every year it's been like the Warriors Cavs, and we've known who is going to be in it.
No one knows what they expect here.
I think it's gonna go seven games, Lakers in seven and it's gonna be dramatic.
And it's gonna be everything we had hoped for for the N B A.
And you know how crazy is it that we're walking in the October and usually this is when MBA would be getting started.
Uh, now everything is gonna be pushed back.
So that's right.
Sports Equinox were in it.
Wednesday is gonna be a full slate of games from noon to midnight, and then we've got the NBA Finals Game one Wednesday night and then Thursday Night Football and then rolling right into Mawr finals games, Mawr postseason baseball games and NFL Week four is gonna be a crazy week.
Switch up the schedules, guys.
Keep these sports like this in the September October range because this is a nice way to spend your days when you got intensity.
Playoff basketball, football Sundays, Thursday nights.
Like you said, like that stuff's always intense, no matter what in the NFL.
So it's been a lot of fun to watch that the last two things for me are one.
I like the fact it's nice to see two teams that came in that had a relatively easy road to the finals.
I just like I like having teams that, for example, if the Nuggets had made it, you go, boy.
But the gauntlet that they went through to get there Miami comes in.
You feel like the upper the upper leg of just being healthier, fresher and not having had to go through long Siri's.
So both of these teams worked their way through only three losses for the Lakers.
Like on the other side.
Was it five losses? Maybe, for I think Miami through the three Siri's that they had to do to get, you know, fresh teams, healthy teams? I love that.
Yeah, I'm not sure I think it might might have been flip.
I think the Lakers might have had four or five losses.
I think that he only had three losses because they swept e think they swept the first Serie.
That's right, You're right.
Yeah, s So I think it was only three losses for the Either way, it's That's a huge thing.
My co host on top, and that's Hudson was pumping the Nuggets on.
I'm like there's no way the Nuggets, they're gonna go seven games coming back from 317 games, coming back from 31 and then push the Lakers to seven games.
You can't do it.
It's too much like you can't do it.
So these teams, they handle business and pretty like efficient amount of games and they're gonna be arrested and they're gonna be ready to rock Wednesday.
They get, uh, you know, the heat get two nights.
They get Monday, Tuesday, there on Wednesday, And the Lakers, I think, get three nights to rest before the serious.
So hey, let's see it.
Yeah, I like that right clean on paper, Let's get after it.
And then the other thing was, just as we get out the door here, allow these guys to enjoy things.
Spoelstra was asked immediately after that about so this matchup in the finals with LeBron and he actually shut down the question and he goes, Yeah, that's great.
Obviously, we're playing the Lakers.
What I'd like to do is have my guys enjoy this because it's not easy to to get to and when a conference finals and make it to the final.
So I'm gonna go ahead and give him, like, just a little bit of time here to enjoy what they have done before we do turn ourselves and the attention to this big task ahead of us.
So I always think that it's easy, right? Always wanna jump to the next thing, but good for him.
He's done a great job coaching this team and making sure that they take that moment to say, Look what we've done, this is a big accomplishment.
And now, yes, we will turn our attention to see what happened starting on Wednesday night.
So congratulations to the Heat.
Let's see if LeBron can do what he did.
Closing out the Nuggets, where he just takes over the back end of the fourth quarter, gives you nine straight points and says, Listen, can I King James, this thing all game long? Maybe not, but I can still juice it when I need to.
So I'm gonna be very curious to see how this started.
This series starts out with LeBron and what he's bring in there.
You can, of course, follow myself and Keith McPherson, all across SportsCastr here, doing our SportsCastr news MBA coverage.
