And we are back.
What's going on? Everybody Railroad here from the rail route Network Brand New Here Live on SportsCastr, along with my man Connor Carney from Connor.
Commentary Together we bring you the greatest live show in North America.
What's going on? Carter Henry Ware.
We both with a red again.
We both spread the red.
All right, let's jump into this.
I know Patriot fans wanted to start talking.
We got lots of time to start **** or chatting with each other.
But let's talk about our main topic tonight, man.
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton came out today and had some pretty strong words, at least in my opinion, about this receiving corps here on this team.
Many people, Connor, myself included, have all come to the conclusion that the New England Patriots need to get themselves another wide receiver to give Cam Newton some help.
You and I talked about the possibility of Odell Beckham Jr.
We talked about Alan Robinson.
I laid down three other names last night that the Patriots could go after after the Cam Newton puts up 397 yards.
Well, apparently, though, Cam Newton doesn't feel the same as you and I is It all smoke and mirrors his Cam Newton just trying to say the right things.
But when he was asked about it this morning, here's what he had to say about his receiving corps.
He said, Quote, man, I'll say this.
The answers are in that locker room.
Simple and plain.
We got little but Doughboy.
Highway 11 My germs.
Let me rewind that we have Dimier burden Akil Harry Julian Edelman, Jacoby Meyers Nikkila Harry came out after he saw that he felt great and confident that Cam Newton has the Cam.
Newton has the respect for them.
The Cam Newton has that sort of confidence in them.
What are you feeling, buddy? Should we believe Cam Newton is this smoke and mirrors? Is this riel? Should we really believe what he's saying? Or is this all just Is he is he believe in this core? And do you believe in this receiving corps? I mean, after what we saw on Sunday night, it's kind of hard to say that we shouldn't believe in them.
After he threw for almost 400 yards, I mean bird, and I love that he has nicknames for everybody.
I think that's hilarious.
I think that shows just great team chemistry and how well this team is going to get along and how much he's falling in is like the leader, Um, but the Maria's Bird, a k a.
It was little, but or was it little, but little by little but right.
E mean, he looked great on Sunday night.
We haven't really seen Nicky.
Last season, I didn't think he got a fair shake.
And I thought he made some great plays on Sunday night, especially on the two minute drill, when it really mattered.
And obviously, Julian Edelman looks as good as he's ever looked.
I mean, I figure, you know, that's what he's gonna say.
He's going to say that we have all the answers here.
Um, I mean, I'm sure it wouldn't be opposed to bring in another receiver, but if they don't at this point, I'm okay with it.
Yeah, and I think it comes down to I don't think Cam Newton will complain if Bill Belichick goes out and has another receiver.
But I think he came out and said, Hey, look, I'm confident what I got in that locker room.
What he probably wanted to say is, Hey, ever since Steve Smith left in 2015 or whatever it was, I haven't had a real receiver in Carolina in years. E.
I had Christian McCaffrey, I, Greg Olsen.
I played with them.
But you know, I made something out of nothing to just like a certain number 12 who used to be here.
And look, I'm glad you said we saw Nikkila.
Harry's breakout, right? Tom Brady did not wanna work with tequila.
Harry, I'm not knocking Tom Brady.
Tom Brady was like, Dude, I'm 42 years old.
I'm not here to work with rookies.
I'm here to win a Super Bowl. Fine.
I'm gonna stop bashing Tom Brady a little bit.
Yes, I've admitted I'm still bitter towards him.
I'm bitter towards Gronk, but I'm also starting to get a little bit ****ed off of Bruce Arians and all the BS.
He's talking about them in the media.
He basically came out today and said Gronkowski is not on the team to throw the football to like, Dude, you've got the greatest quarterback of all time and the greatest tight end of all time on your team.
Yeah, maybe they're not who they were five years ago.
But, dude, you're gonna call them out publicly, like, get there.
And I never thought I'd find myself this season defending Tom Brady Gronkowski because you know my feelings towards them.
But no, I gotta I gotta defend my boys a little bit.
Bruce Areas is an idiot. I agree.
He's really running off the mouth.
I mean, I thought last week when he said it made the comment about Brady on the interception, I thought he was just kind of trying to motivate it.
But now it seems like he's just throwing digs.
I almost feel like he knows that it's going to garner the attention.
And he's just loving that attention where Bill Belichick was always trying to garner the attention and else places.
But let's get back to to kill Harry.
So look, I think that everybody can agree that Nikkila Harry had a disappointing rookie campaign.
Expectations were high.
Bill Belichick used the first round pick on a receiver his first time ever, right? He didn't come close toe living up to those you know, expectations.
Some of the fans, the media, have already put the label of bust on a keel.
Harry, before I get into the rest of what I want to talk about were you at any point last season or even going into this season, considering Nick Eel Harry a bust? I didn't think we really got a good enough glimpse at him because let's let's look at the first eight weeks he was injured.
He didn't play at all.
And then what? Belichick is notorious for his kind of like slowly bringing players back along, so he didn't really get a full slate the entire season.
We saw a very, very little of him, and that wasn't really his fault.
He was just injured, and then they were kind of slowly building him up, so he didn't get a fair shake.
I mean, you miss half the season because you're injured.
You really need to be on the I. R. For half the season.
Was that a Belichick move because he knew he was gonna be bringing in Antonio Brown and other guys and you know, just trying to keep, you know, roster space available.
Um, Tom Brady didn't wanna work with him.
That Belichick know that.
So we thought, Well, let's put Tuck this kid on the I r gets, um, veterans make Brady happy.
Who knows the back of stories that happened.
But he gets half a season comes out.
Brady throws to him one time.
He drops the pass, it gets intercepted.
I mean, and Brady says, What the hell is that? I'm freezing you out.
I don't want to throw you the ball anymore.
Josh McDaniels has to resort to end arounds to get the kids involved in the game.
So now we're coming into this season.
Cam Newton's like, No, that's my dog.
I'm gonna be throwing the ball to him.
And him and Julian Edelman had career nights What, 179 yards for Edelman.
72 yards for Harry gets in there on the head to head.
Who, by the way, apologized to Harry, uh, via Twitter.
I don't believe you.
That was an intent to injure.
I think e obviously like Well, I don't wanna It was a dirty hit, but I don't think he intended it for it to be a dirty hit.
But it was obviously when you watch the replay, it was kind of bad.
Yeah, I think it happened. It's dirty.
He should have been injected.
He should be fined.
It was completely dirty, but I don't think he was intending on hurting Nikkila.
Well, I was shocked to kill Harry played.
I thought he's going into concussion protocol.
To be honest, I thought he was too for sure.
As soon as I saw that because he was slow to get up to, I thought, Oh, boy.
It's gonna be a concussion.
And I thought he was gonna miss the rest of the game.
Well, when he was first line there, I thought he was out right.
That was my first reaction.
I thought he was out.
But, you know, at the end of the day, man Newton is believing in him and Julian Edelman and Cam Newton both kind of beef them up this week.
Right? Um, Cam Newton came out said that you're watching him grow in front of everybody's eyes talking about how he's becoming more confident and to kill.
Harry needs to play confident.
Julian Edelman basically said, We've been waiting for this toe happen.
We've been waiting for him to come out and ball in play.
He's grown up this year.
He's getting better every week.
And I don't know.
In my opinion, I think we're starting to see him.
Trend in the right direction is he? Is he D k. Metcalf? No.
Will he always be compared to him? Yes, of course he will.
Just like Robiskie is always gonna be compared to D.
Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes.
That all being said? I'm happy What we see.
As soon as he can start eluding that first tackle, we're gonna start seeing a lot of good things coming out of Nikkila.
And I mean, once he's starting to solidify himself is the number two receiver already.
But, I mean, if he really does, if we have him, Adelman and then from there we have bird.
I mean, I don't I don't see them really needing anybody else.
Jacoby Meyers is gonna be a great number four.
If he solidifies himself is a really good number two options.
I mean, who else are they gonna need.
And I think that we're forgetting that bird had, like, 76 catches or 776 catches, 76 yards at night as well.
Him and Harry were very similar.
I think they both had six catches for 70 low 70 yards.
So I mean, look at those three.
The top three bald out the way they need to on Bird.
Had a lot of important catches. Like third downs.
You know what I mean? Especially in the beginning.
I think it was the first quarter.
It was like a third and long, and he caught a first down.
And I'm like, Okay, let's see what this guy could Dio. Yeah.
No, no, absolutely.
I thought they all played well considering that Damir Bird didn't have a target week one, right? Right. Yeah. Right.
So and you know, I'm gonna be interesting.
We'll get on the Raiders game a little bit today.
Of course we'll be We'll be going in more depth on they.
They did, but I got some stuff I want to talk about.
I've been studying the tape and all that kind of stuff.
I looked at the numbers.
You know they won't be able to do what they did to the Saints against the Patriots because the Patriots don't play.
That loose zone of the Saints gave them all night.
Everything wasn't underneath pass and the page.
It's going to slow down Darren Waller Big time.
I think the Patriots take away your best weapon, right, and there is the best weapon, but we'll get into the Raiders a little bit on.
I want to stick with Cam Newton if we can, Uh, because this is a Cam Newton heavy show. Just so everybody knows.
A lot of my prep today came into Cam Newton.
Um, and I want to talk a little bit, man.
I mean, we've talked about this and that and a whole bunch of other things, right? I want to talk just a little bit about how not just Cam Newton's impact on the Patriots, but really what its impact on the NFL has been this year, and I have no problems acknowledging that maybe even this season, Tom Brady is the better quarterback than Cam Newton.
But I think that Cam Newton was the better quarterback for this current Patriots team.
I believe that if Brady stayed, we wouldn't have the same success that I believe we're gonna have with Cam Newton.
And that's not a knock on Brady.
Just the situation is probably better in Tampa for him.
Established receivers Cam Newton knows how to work with these young kids.
You Sprinkle in.
You know, the veteran and Julian Edelman, and I think that it's way more set up for a Cam Newton.
But I want to read you this here now.
It's not the whole piece because but you know how I do things.
But this is a little snippet today.
I was reading an article in The Boston Globe.
I finally gave in, and I'm paying the 6 99 a month or whatever it costs.
Chad Finn wrote this, and I just took out a couple of paragraphs and little different snippets that I thought explain things. So let me read it.
Then we can talk about it.
Okay, says quote, I'm on record multiple times as being bummed out that Tom Brady is ending his career elsewhere.
Let me also go on record right now is believing the Patriots upgraded at quarterback this year, Brady looks the same in Tampa Bay with better weapons, as they like to say, as he did in New England last year.
He's the greatest player of all times, but his style of play right now is methodically joyless.
Where did that goofy, happy kid obliviously whacking Bledsoe on the helmet go from the first Super Bowl ago? Newton is more fun.
He's more patient with the young receivers, especially the enigmatic Doughboy Nikkila Harry.
He's built a report with Julian Edelman, who was forever the side card of Brady's motorcycle.
He's fearless on the run in the young Grogan kind of way, and there's still lightning in his arm.
I wonder what his worst game will look like when the running lanes are clogged in the arm seems to need recalibrating, and I worry he's may be taken too much.
It's because he's always taken too many hits.
I wonder if there will be moments of petulant born on with on field frustration, which happened from time to time in Carolina.
I suppose we'll find out.
But all I know is for sure today is that the Patriots lost Sunday night in the morning after new mood is like it was a blowout win Makes sense to Cam.
Newton is here, rolling and rejuvenated, doing all of his electrifying Cam Newton things and life after the greatest quarterback of them all feels better than it did during the last year that he was here.
And I can't disagree with that. Take.
I think that Cam Newton brings an energy that Tom Brady didn't.
He brings a joy.
Connor. It's almost like OMG.
They're having fun playing football in New England again.
It does feel like it's like a rejuvenate, like a rejuvenation.
I feel like last year they were kind of flat.
You could almost tell that like he was either wasn't having fun or he was disgruntled about something.
I mean, it feels like the Patriots have new life.
If that even makes sense, No, it makes real sense.
I've been thinking about Belichick because I mean, during this off season, we saw him mawr funny.
You know, the troll with his dog during the draft, what he had Nike sitting in the chair.
That was awesome.
Um, the jokes he's cracking during press conferences.
I mean he still just Bill Bill Belichick moments like when they asked him about the time out and he just sat there quietly, not saying anything.
24 seconds of awkward silence.
Um, he still does his Belichick things.
I'm sure he's still ripping guys in the film room, but he seems to like that.
But I just wonder if that relationship was so.
I mean, I don't know how far you are in the dynasty yet.
I mean, how far have you gotten further? Yeah, they've already lost the perfect season now meant to 2000 and eight.
Okay, so this is when you start to really start seeing the fractures of the Bill Belichick Tom Brady relationship.
It's when it starts.
And I'm wondering, though, that if it was just so fractured that Belichick wasn't enjoying football, Brady wasn't enjoying football.
And when you got the two guys at the top not enjoying playing football, it's going to trickle down through the organization.
I mean, we remember those reports that came out that said there was veterans on the team that wanted Brady toe leave, not because they didn't think he wasn't great, but they were like if he's gonna come in with the same attitude is last year.
We don't want him, and I wonder how long that's been trickling in New England because guys seem to be having fun.
And it took somebody like Cam Newton with personality to come in there and dance and sing.
I mean, he's he's the leader of that locker room.
You can absolutely percent, um, and it's just been absolutely phenomenal.
And the thing is like So Boomer, a citizen was talking about Cam Newton.
I think away from his bigger than life personality.
I think a lot of people have been surprised about just how good of a football player he's been right.
Boomer size enough, CBS said. Quote.
The thing about it that is actually shocking to me is how accurate Cam has been.
I'm not saying that it's been totally perfect, but all in all, I would say Cam Newton has filled in admirably, maybe not even admirably but better than Tom Brady the first two games.
So that's two different people that have said he's played better than Brady these last two games, at least in New England, right? And I, you know it makes me laugh.
Because if you remember some of that feedback I mean, we saw it.
We saw in the YouTube comments.
We saw it on SportsCastr.
We saw it on Twitter.
Right? Cam Newton is not a fit for the New England Patriots.
He doesn't fit the culture.
He's not a Bill Belichick type of guy.
I mean, they seem to love them in New England, right? And you wanna know what I think? It's also funny because all of his press conferences he's been pretty, like, stoic and giving, like the Bill Belichick X type answers, You know what I mean? So he's taking He's taking all of that by surprise.
Absolute freaking lutely.
Um, he is, But then he's giving candid answers.
I'm gonna skip this one for a second. I'm gonna tell you something.
I'm gonna tell you what Cam Newton said about himself, because it could be the greatest self promotion I've ever heard in my life.
So he said this this morning.
I think he's on the Greg Hill show.
Okay? And they were asking him about how he prepares himself and that kind of thing.
This is what Cam Newton said.
It's phenomenal, he said.
I play this game and I prepare for this game probably like no other player, because I have to have the endurance like a wide receiver.
I have tow, have the physical toughness of a running back and just the intuitiveness of being cerebral like a quarterback.
So I wouldn't necessarily call myself a quarterback.
I'm or less call myself a football player.
That just so happens to play quarterback.
When people see that it's foreign to them, especially how I run and play football.
I've been playing like that for years.
Yeah, and I think he nailed it right on the head.
He's a phenomenal athlete.
You could play any position on the offense who happens to be the quarterback, right? Absolutely.
I mean, he could also probably fill in for a tight end.
If we really needed him to, you know what I mean? He does.
He has the athleticism, He has the endurance, He has the speed.
And he's a hell of a passer prior to Jared Stidham, becoming the third quarterback and obviously not cutting up the part.
I had visions of Jared Stidham coming on the field and splitting Cam Newton out wide.
Yeah, we talked about this and we talked about possible end arounds.
We talked about the Nunes we talked about because it's not like putting Mark Sanchez or Matt Ryan out there.
Like if If Cam Newton goes out there, you gotta put a safety on them.
You're not just putting anybody on them.
You gotta put an actual defender because he could be involved in the game plan.
I don't want Brian Hoyer making that play, but I have no issues with Cam Newton making up or with what Jared stood of making that play.
If he was good enough, right? So here's the thing.
So we talked about his impact on the Patriots, how he's better for this team right now.
But, I mean, if I'm if I'm a general manager, that I don't know, say has mixed Robiskie as my as my quarterback or I don't know, even Josh Allen.
I know he's been doing really well, but I'm trying to think of you know Derek Carr.
Marcus Mariota is my back up, and I mean, they're not doing bad, but I'm just you know Gardner Minshew.
If I'm a GM, Kevin Clark of the ringer tweeted this out, and it's probably one of my favorite tweets. He said.
If I owned a team with an average quarterback, I'd ask my GM first thing in the morning.
On what exactly was the thought process behind not offering Cam Newton any contract? Seriously, Especially then You're a little money.
Yeah, and you just said that. Perfect because he finished with.
Then I would yell, because the reason would probably be bad.
The Patriots basically duped the league again.
I know here goes Bill Belichick again.
And I believe I mean, we heard some stories.
We heard some reports.
I believe that this deal was made for a while.
What? I think the Patriots would have made it a better deal with Cam in March if they would have had the money.
Can we not forget that there was a point this season that they didn't have enough money to pay the draft picks? Yes, I do remember that, and I think they approached Cam Newton said.
Look, we want you.
This is what we can offer go out and try to get your money.
If you can't, you know, let's make that.
We'll get this done.
Come show off a little bit and, you know, maybe you get your money next year.
And, um, I do believe the stories that came out when they say that Cam Newton was intrigued about playing for Bill Belichick, that that was a selling point for him. I agree.
And it's funny because they talked about a lot of these free agents in the offseason how New England was no longer a desirable place to sign anymore.
And I know the Patriots missed out on a couple of guys who decided to go elsewhere.
And a lot of the pundits said, You know what? Tom Brady gone.
You know everybody's gonna want to flock to Tampa Bay.
I wonder if there's players sitting there now going, Oh, man, I got wonder, Really? If Leonard Fournette maybe thanks.
So maybe I should have considered New England, right? You know, I mean, he's not in a bad spot in Tampa, but I wonder if he's looking at Cam Newton going like that.
This could have been fun, and obviously, Sony Michelle is not getting the job done.
And dude, I'm willing to say it right now.
Sony Michelle has to be in the dog.
If I was Bill Baljic, he'd be in my dog house.
I am done waiting for Sony Michelle to break a tackle.
I'm done like it's It's continuing from over from last season, which we saw that the entire season last season.
If there's no running lane for him, he doesn't do much on his own.
And you and I both said we would give him this season.
We would not judge him on last season in offensive line problems.
They had full back issues.
We would give him the break.
Well, the offensive line has been phenomenal.
I gotta say, phenomenal.
This year they're back to the old offensive line.
Um, you know, you had Jermaine Alumina Nor and, uh, who just filled in for Jermaine Alumina or on on Sunday night.
Somebody else stepped in there.
Uh, anyways, I can't think of it.
He did get it right time.
I haven't even noticed that Marcus Cannon isn't on this team this year. That's funny.
You say that because I didn't even realize that until you just said that either.
You know, I really didn't.
I haven't even noticed that he's not on this team.
And for me, as a former offensive lineman, I was a left guard.
You guys know that I love to brag about, you know, my glory days of being a left guard in high school and college as an offensive lineman, the pride you take and not being noticed because the only time in offensive lineman is noticed is when you're giving up sacks or you're not opening lanes for your running back.
And I mean, they're the guards air pulling.
I don't blame the offensive line for the stop.
I blame if I'm gonna put blame.
Besides, you know what we both said.
Maybe Seattle just executed a great play on that final play of the game.
Um, it was Yacoubi Johnson who got blown up, right? Kind of broke down that play.
It wasn't the offensive line.
They held their ground.
Unfortunately, I think Seattle just knew it was coming.
They had the chance to call a time out, and they hadn't stopped it three other times.
So I think they finally do.
They just went all in I agree, but I still think you have to call that play, right? I mean, I don't know if you disagree.
I mean, I know hindsight is 2020 but I still think you have to call that play and Cam Newton run the football.
That play hadn't been stopped all night, so it's hard to go away from what was working hike Hindsight's 2020.
I wish they would have tried to come out of the shotgun with some sort of receivers lined up, but that was the right.
That was the right move.
They hadn't stopped it all night.
Well, it's funny.
Matt Chatham put out on Twitter today, and I thought it was really funny.
He goes, you know, we're all arguing about how the Patriot should have thrown the ball instead of running the ball.
He's his exact opposite argument that was being made, Uh, and you know, when Seattle decided to throw the ball instead of running it e no, exactly exactly.
No matter what, if if it worked, they would have been the greatest decision ever.
All right, dude, So again, so can do Is playing great Sony.
Michelle is an issue, but let's take Cam Newton for a second.
I mean, we've seen him for two games now, like, let's let's park the let's hit the brakes a little bit.
Okay, we're talking like this guy like we're about to go under the A F C Championship game.
You know, we've seen two games already.
I'm ready to give a three year, $80 million contract.
E don't know about you, but I'm ready.
I'm ready as I'm ready as well.
Based on these two games, just one.
Seeing his attitude, I love the team chemistry.
I think that's huge.
I love hearing all these nicknames he has for everybody.
I think he's fitting in perfectly.
He looks great running the ball.
He looks great throwing the ball.
I'm e think both of us.
Well, I know both of us said Coming into the season, we thought he was gonna do great.
He's even doing better than I originally thought he would dio.
He's completely I had high and I'll be Look, I had high expectations.
Cam Noon. I didn't have low expectations.
I had high expectations for Kanun and he has exceeded my expectations.
Thomas Cornett from musket fire Today I pulled a couple little art.
I've looked at his, got a great article today, he wrote, basically saying, I'm gonna read it so it's time to sign Cam Newton.
That's what he said and he says this and I think he's going to say everything that we said.
He says, What more do you need to see? Right? And I don't know how you feel, but I feel exactly just like that.
What more do you need to see? Cam Newton has seamlessly transitioned into taking over for Tom Brady in the New England Patriots.
Look like they could do big things this year.
Tighten up the defense, figure out the run game, and this team could have a shot.
All right, listen to this.
Could have a shot to compete against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Baltimore Ravens.
Before I'm gonna walk away from the article for second.
Nobody was giving this team a chance to compete against Kansas City in Baltimore before the last two weeks.
I know before it's clear cut like runaway that the Chiefs with a clear cut favorite and Baltimore was obviously a number two.
I mean, no one really talks about the Patriots.
It was more of like, Are they gonna be able to still win the division? Will they sneak into the playoffs now? All of a sudden, it's like we can still be going to the A F C championship like we have with Tom Brady.
What, 13 times? Yeah, well, I came out and I said the Patriots floor was nine.
You came out and said the Patriots floor was 10.
Yeah, and I think Joe was with us this time. I think he said eight.
Right? That was their floor was eight.
So we had 89 10 across our team.
Before Week one started, I laid $1000 on the line with Over on my Wednesday podcast with Joe New Beau.
I put $1000 on the table and I took your word for it, and I said, I bet you the Patriots win at least 10 games.
I'd be willing to double that bet.
Triple that bet.
Quadruple that bet now, because I I think the floor is passed down. I think the four is 11.
I mean, barring a camp new an injury I think at this point yeah, I would be absolutely shocked for them to go less than 10 and six to bare minimum, I think.
Yeah, I'll be shot, shot shot and my boys.
That SportsCastr News Joe New Beau Lawrence O on guys who didn't get you know, I think Joe picked this team to go 88 I think that and then that when Cam got signed, he changed it to nine.
I think Lawrence had nine or 10 wins.
Joe New Beau, Laurence Owen, Keith McPherson, Adam All break all the NFL team here on SportsCastr do.
They were all texted me.
Joe texted me, grew in our group text, texted me after that game and said, Don't be disappointed.
This team is a Super Bowl contender.
You know, that's what you know.
And he's a Baltimore Ravens fan, you know, But that's what he wrote me.
Don't be disappointed about this game because they look phenomenal.
And it's all these guys have been talking about this week is how the Patriots look.
Let me finish this story here.
So Newton has a firm grasp on the offense and clearly hasn't lost any of his passing abilities he was throwing with pinpoint accuracy and eluding the rush like we saw two years ago.
If he's performing like this and just Hiss second start with a new team in a completely different system.
After being a free agent for 86 nights, the Patriots need to act fast before he builds his value even more.
It's time to offer him a lucrative three year contract extension and provide a clear outlook for the foreseeable future.
Newton has earned it, and at this point, a downgrade in 2021 will dearly hurt the Pats.
He's already the unquestioned leader of this team, and he's been dubbed one of the hardest working players that Bill Belichick has ever seen.
I mean, I can't disagree with anything that this guy just said, no, I completely agree.
And where else would they be going? I mean, three agency, You're not gonna get anyone that that that's that great out there.
I don't want to go to the draft.
He's already fitting in so well with the team.
He is performing great so far.
I know it's only two games, but performing great so far and it there's literally nothing negative to say about the guy.
I mean, if he's willing to sign for a while, why not clamp down on the future? Yeah, and I think that 80 million, that's like 27 year.
I think that's a fair contract, and I think he'll take it.
E I don't I don't think he needs 30 $35 million a year.
He says he doesn't care about money.
I got the quote, so I share the quote.
Yep, I got the court right here.
Money at this particular point in my career is not important.
Let's be honest.
I've made money, but for everything that I play this Game four I haven't received yet.
And that's why I'm playing.
So it's not about the money.
It's about respect.
He wants toe win that Super Bowl.
He feels you don't think he's looking at Chicago.
You don't think he's looking at Oakland who traded for Mark or sign to me and Marcus Mariota? You know, you don't think he's looking at some of these teams around? You went with Ryan Fitzpatrick in Miami over Cam Newton, right? Like when you start going through this list of all these different players.
He doesn't feel respected.
I gotta I gotta hear something else for you, buddy.
Yeah, right now in the NFL, 49 49.
Quarterbacks make mawr money.
Then came Dio in a 32 league team.
Yeah, 49 quarterbacks have larger yearly salaries than Cameron Newton.
That's that's absolutely insane to think about.
That means more than what's that? Half of the backups.
Well, let me share the list with you. Shall I? Yeah.
Now, I deleted the obvious.
Roethlisberger, Mahomes, Mark Jackson, Break Breeze.
He's an established guy. Aaron Rodgers.
I deleted those kind of guys.
Okay, so I think that Z they're not there on this list.
But it's not what I'm gonna go through.
And I'm even going to do this for one second because I want to see your face as I go through this list with you.
Because this is how preposterous it really is.
I lost you. There you are. Okay.
It's not letting me do it, unfortunately, because I really Okay, here we go.
I could see making $29.
5 million a year.
Ryan Freaking Tannehill! Oh, God.
9 million this year.
Philip Rivers Backup Jacoby Burr set, Is he Really? Yes, sir.
Now, this man has been more impressive than I thought he was gonna be.
But the Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is making $25 million.
Yeah, he got an enormous contract.
Philip Rivers is making less money than his backup making $25 million this season, which is still silly Thio.
See that much money? That Philip Rivers, Teddy Bridgewater, the man who is now Oh, and two who replaced Cam Newton is making 21 million.
I think about that right now.
And they're looking at Teddy Bridgewater compared to Cam Newton.
And think about you paid him big money to replace Cam Newton.
Here's the other.
I'm not gonna name all the salaries, but now I'm gonna name the other players who make more money than Cam Newton.
Taysom Hill. Yeah.
Joe Burrow, Marcus Mariota Kyler Murray Baker Mayfield, Nick Foles.
You know the guy who lost his job? Two Midst.
Who lost his job two.
Gardner Minshew and lost his job.
Robiskie Him to attack a Viola Sam Donald Mitch.
I've already read two rookies making more money than you can do.
Keenum Ryan Fitzpatrick Tie Rod Taylor, Josh Allen, Chase Daniel Dwayne Haskins, Jordan Love.
Andy Dalton, Jeff Driskel.
Colt McCoy didn't even know he was still in the league.
Nathan Friggin Peterman.
Oh, no, Robert Griffin.
Matt Barkley, Nate Sudfeld, The third string quarterback in Philadelphia.
Matt Schwab and Drew luck.
Oh, my goodness, all making more money, then Cam Newton.
Some of these people, I forgot.
We're even in the league.
Some of these names I'm like.
This guy still plays Matt Schaab still around.
He's still around.
He's making mawr than the Patriots starting quarterback.
Think about how silly that ISS.
I mean, Cam Newton is the absolute bargain of the year.
Oh, my God, Yeah, and I mean, and this is a year that I didn't.
Patrick Mahomes is only making, like 25 million or something like that on this is still a bargain.
There is no player in this league that brings more value for what he's being paid.
Then Cam Newton Oh, no.
That's for any position in the entire league at this point.
I mean, they're getting top tier talent for third string money.
Uh, and it blows my It blows my freaking mind.
It really, really does.
I mean, he's working with the same talent that can that Tom Brady did last year.
I mean, I don't know.
And we talked about him a lot, right? I don't know what else we could say about him that hasn't been said, but I think a he Yes, he is deserving of a contract extension.
And I believe that the Patriots do You need to show him respect, right? I I just wanna I think that they should definitely figure something.
I just don't know how soon they're going to do it.
I don't know if Bellatrix gonna take a while or how eager cameras to sign.
Or if you want Thio, go make money on the open market, we'll see.
We'll have to see.
It's obviously gonna be It's gonna be one of those things. Toe watch.
Um, we're, of course, this the whole I mean, I think we're gonna watch the Cam Newton contract closer than we watched Tom Brady contract last year, right? Yeah, at this point, Yeah, and it's funny because he's on the one year deal.
So as it as it gets closer, it's gonna be more and more pressure to figure out what the future is gonna be, which is almost why, If you do it now, just take that worry off the table and they have a ton of money opening up in cap space in the future.
And listen for everybody who's negatively commenting right now, and I'm sure there's a lot of you, Um, just because welcome to the Internet.
Um, look, I look, I'll acknowledge we could be sitting here in six weeks talking about Brian Hoyer because Cam Newton is on the shelf.
I'll totally acknowledge that.
But I'm not talking about six weeks online.
I'm talking about right now, and I am not.
And in the now person, I'm always thinking down the line.
In 2017 I propose that the Patriots to trade Rob Gronkowski.
You know, I'm always thinking about the future, but I'm looking right now going.
I don't know because it's different.
I know you and I talked and I said, I was really excited.
This was pre Cam Newton and remember you and I talking and me saying, I'm really excited about going into a season without Brady, not because Brady is not there, but, uh, look, I I've watched.
I started a za fan of this team with Drew Bledsoe, and then I went to Tom Brady.
I haven't seen anything else besides a Sprinkle of Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo in Jacoby percent, It's always been Tom Brady's team.
Though E was excited to go into a season where it wasn't a suspension, it wasn't an injury.
It was like, Hey, we're starting a new era in New England and Cam Newton took my expectations of excitement levels and brought it to levels I can't even explain right.
I agree completely.
It's like they just he revitalized the team.
I think the fan base is kind of agreeing to based on what I've been seeing lately.
It's like everyone's pumped up again and I've seen a lot of complete flips on Twitter, Um, people who were just people who I unfollowed people over the Cam Newton sign and I blocked people on Twitter because of the Cam Newton sign and they didn't even say anything to me.
It's just I saw the reaction, and I wanted nothing to do with that person.
And I'm seeing There's one guy on there. I'm not gonna call him out.
But he was dad set against Cam Newton.
He hated Cam Newton.
He tweeted out today, man.
He said I'm wrong.
I was I was wrong to doubt Cam Newton and I You know what? I'm sitting there going Good.
I'm had a lot of people.
Were you Were you on the Can? You I I believe I believe you were, but I'm gonna make sure because I know I was I believe we talked about if you were on the Cam Newton train immediately, right? Yeah. Immediately.
Yeah, As soon as they signed him, I was I was ready to go with him, mostly because of I saw all of his training videos in the off season.
I saw how like ****ed off he was, and I was like, Yeah, this guy's this guy's gonna do it and it's funny as we watch those videos.
I just kept waiting for the announcement that he signed with the Patriots and and look, I didn't think it was gonna happen.
I fully admit I was wrong on this one.
And it wasn't, you know, and Lawrence always Busses my balls for it, right? Because he Lawrence told me in February, Cam Newton is gonna be the quarterback of the New England Patriots and he to every month.
When can you know doing SportsCastr news? Cam Newton was a hot topic, right? I mean, this summer we talked about Cam Newton being a free agent, and we talked about Dak Prescott contract like that was the whole discussion piece.
And I got sick of talking about Cam Newton and Dak Prescott will tell you that much.
And every week or so, we had to cover Cam Newton article.
And every week, Lawrence would tell me Cameron Newton is going to be the quarterback of the Patriots.
And my response was always the same.
I would love that.
I would go nuts.
I would beg for Cam Newton to be our quarterback, but the Patriots can't afford him.
My answer was always identical.
And all of a sudden a long weekend here in Canada was Canada Day long weekend, my daughters on my daughter's birthday, the day she turned nine years old, were sitting down for her birthday dinner.
I get a text from my boy who's a Steelers fan, And I looked down and it goes, What do you think of your team now? And I'm like, huh? Patriots And I just see Cam Freaking Newton.
And from that point on, I was hooked, right? Where were you when you found out about Cam Newton? My parents ba*****t.
So this was a few.
This is at least a few months ago.
I remember getting that there was a huge thunderstorm going on, so I remember it clearly.
And I was like, Oh, my goodness, I forgot.
I forgot about Cam Newton completely because I was already in my mind.
It was We're moving forward with Jared Stidham.
I kind of just forgot that he hadn't been signed, because way back in February, I was thinking, Yeah, maybe they will sign them.
But by then, it was like early late June.
Early July In it e.
I figured they were just They had already decided that stadium was gonna be the guy at that point.
Yeah, and I know that you and I, we, uh we really tried to beef up Jared Stidham.
Yeah, and I got to a point where I almost believed my own BS, you know? And I remember, like writing Joe and saying, I need every positive right up about Jared Stidham and, you know, And look, Joe found me that whole thing about He was projected to be a first round pick.
Remember this 20 17 And he went back to Auburn and his offensive line.
So look, there were positive things.
Just kept picking out all these positive things to say about steady.
Right, Because we're going into the I mean, I remember all the Twitter handle steady season instead of season, you know? And And I even remember when Cam Newton sign with the Patriots.
And I remember I did a video about it.
Master at work did a video about it.
Even my arch nemesis, Patriots Global, did it, You know what I mean? And what's all of our reactions? And I think all of us had a pretty level steady reaction to it.
And we all did a good job.
Truth We paid her school probably did the best job on the video.
He did a lot of research into it.
I was way more of just reactive.
You know what I mean? I started the whole time and didn't have a lot of knowledgeable things to say.
Just be celebrating Patriots Global.
Probably had the most in depth, actual knowledgeable piece out of all of us.
But remember, like reading comments of mind reading comments and masterwork reading Master in, uh, Patriot Global.
And I mean, people are like, I don't know why we got him.
It's still systems job.
He's not taking the job from steady.
He'll be cut by training camp.
You know, still good veteran to mentor Stidham when Stidham starting, like, just a bunch of ridiculous stuff, right? Like I mean, I think that most of us with some knowledge were like, Cam Newton is gonna be the g d starter, you know? Yeah.
You don't sign Cam Newton to be the backup to Jared Freaking Stidham.
Yeah, there was no way he was coming here to play second fiddle.
I knew as soon as they signed him that he was gonna be the starter.
The electric wasn't gonna like.
Make that commitment.
Just use the guy toe, you know, come in and mentor Jarrett Stidham.
No, no, you Brian Hoyer for that.
That's like Brian Hoyer's job.
That's the top of his resume.
Brian Hoyer is not on the New England Patriots start games.
I wouldn't be surprised if something happened to Cam.
Dude, if Brian Hoyer is still the backup in Jared Cinema starting like I wouldn't e, I wouldn't be shocked at all.
I think Hoyer is the perfect backup mentor.
You know, E just don't think he's here to start games like you said no.
So it Z and I Look, I feel bad for the guy because he signed with the Patriots because he believed he was competing for a starting spot.
I feel like he should know by now that, like he really wasn't I don't know.
I guess you always come in thinking you're going to compete.
But he he hasn't been a starter and so long, and he's never gonna started with the Patriots.
I mean, he he had the kind of a kind of have known well, I mean, but he didn't know he was coming in to compete against Cam Newton.
He thought he was coming in to compete against Jared Stidham.
Yeah, that's true.
I mean, look, I don't know what I don't know what's going on, but as of right now, he's won the backup role. Overstayed him.
Um, but again, I don't know if that's to play football, or that's just to be Cam's mentor on the bench.
I agree, you know, when we really look at it and they really worried that, uh, they think that he's the better position to play if Cam Newton's to get injured? Or is he just the better mentor and the better guy to be on the sidelines? Yeah, that's that's my thought process to right.
Look, I'll say it and I'll knock on wood.
The Patriots escaped this dreadful weekend of injuries in the NFL.
I know it was terrible.
Um, I don't know what happened in San Francisco.
I mean, I don't know like that.
Do they have any players left? Very few, like George Kittle out for this? Is he out for the season? He's over.
I don't know if George kills out for the season.
I think George Kittle will be back.
Nick Bosa is out for the season, closes out for the season Another defensive lineman is out for the season.
Groppe blows out until it blows over with a high ankle sprain.
I mean, they already monster Monster.
It's out this week.
They already had.
What's his name? The receiver on the I R.
Ah, what's his name? I'm not sure.
Anyways, he was already there.
I mean, they already had a massive like their their injuries all, really.
But I mean, the amount of injuries.
I'm just gonna see if I can find the list.
Because now I did look into it.
The the amount of injuries aren't up, but the amount of star players and star power hurt is up.
So Nick Bosa is out is out.
Um, Szechwan Barkley own a C l.
High ankle sprain.
He's gonna be off for at least two or three weeks.
I heard Drew Lock sprained a C joint.
Portland Sutton His receiver.
Tornado cl. He's out.
High ankle sprain.
Davante Adams has now got a hamstring issue.
Tavon Young of the Baltimore Ravens has a knee issue.
I think they're looking at an A C l Malik hooker of the Indianapolis Colts has an Achilles tendon.
Oh, that's not good.
Byron Jones, cornerback of the Dolphins, out with a groin.
Raheem Mozart is a sprained M C L.
Spraying means a minor tear, right Tyrod Taylor with a chest injury.
That's why Herbert played Anthony bars out from Minnesota.
Brandon Linder of Jacksonville, Paris.
Campbell of the Ohio State University, was having a fantastic season so far for the Colts.
Bruce, serving knee injury for Seattle, Will Fuller hamstring injury.
You know, basically the deep receiver now in Houston.
I mean, the list just went on and on and on.
It's the impact is unbelievable.
Yeah, that was the worst I've ever seen.
Probably the history of me watching football with stars getting injured.
It was just one right after the other after the other.
That's what I'm saying, and I don't think it was like I don't think it was a case of Mawr injuries.
I think it's just a case of so many stars getting her.
Now that you say that that makes sense.
It's probably We just wouldn't have realized that this many people got injured if they weren't as bigger names as they are I Yeah, I would agree with you.
Um, it just just dude, I was like, I was barely watching games because I was spending so much time on Twitter.
Just just figuring out, you know what I mean? Who was hurt? All right, we got 10 minutes left.
I want to throw this at you.
So first of all, I gotta ask, How's your war with draftkings going? Not good.
They're up there up to and I'm down owing to on him.
But there's still another 15 weeks, so I hope they're prepared.
We're going again, This one this Sunday.
And I heard you have a problem with your manager because he wants to be a salesman.
First over being a fantasy manager.
He's not getting that.
He's not gonna be happy.
But you know what? I have trades to make with all these injuries.
I need to be watching the waiver wire.
I can't be worried about helping somebody find a car.
I need to be worried about who's gonna play running back.
Took a flyer on Devante Freeman today who just signed.
Did you? Yeah, I was thinking about that I'm trying to get the guy Davis from the Panthers, but we'll see who did.
Freeman just signed with with Giants, the Giants that replaced to Kwan, and I think he's gonna have a big part of that, a big part of that offense.
So that's who I Yeah, our ex Dion Lewis didn't look too great replacing him.
I think he had 10 rushes for 20 yards s.
So we have a question here that came in on Twitter.
Comes from Noel Noel or Noel Noel here in Canada.
Okay, he says, I can't write on the stream because I'm not a registered.
But my question for you guys would be without High Tower in Chung who have newborns.
Do you think the other six Oh, do you think the other six ducked out because Brady was leaving and thinking that New England was gonna be a disaster? I don't think so.
Do you think Kyle van? So obviously, he's really he's Jamie Collins, Kyle van Noy, a Landon Roberts.
I think that I think they left for the money.
I think I think Belichick just simply told him that he didn't have the money to pay them and that's why they left.
I would I would probably tend to agree with you.
I believe the same thing.
Um, I don't think Van Noy went to Miami thinking that that was the, you know, the place to go win.
I think he had to be smart enough to know they might be better, but they're not going to be, you know, as good as they were, you know, or they're not gonna be as good as they can be in a couple of years when he's probably a little bit washed up.
I would agree with you.
I think some of it may come into play.
You know, I think Atlanta Roberts.
You may have looked at it and said, The hell with it.
I'll go make a little bit more money and not want to.
And don't forget.
I mean, all those guys were all Super Bowl champions.
Jamie Collins was champion Vanoy champion Lynne Roberts.
I always think it's a big difference when you're a champion and hopping the champion like you've already rings, you know, because you can see the difference, right? Cam Newton, sitting there talking about money, right? I don't need money.
I got other things I need to any respect.
He wants championships.
He wants a Super Bowl ring.
Those guys were like, I got my rings.
I'm not ring chasing anymore.
Like now I want to get paid.
I took pay cuts to come play for Bill Belichick.
I got my championship.
Now I want to go make my money elsewhere.
Listen, man, like business decisions or business decisions.
So thank you for your question.
Uh, he's coming from the u K two.
So it z right now.
Um and, uh OK, so Joe is throwing something at us on Twitter, asking us about Todd Davis.
He's been solid for for several years.
Why is he still a free agent and not had a workout with the Patriots? Is he not retired Todd Davis? That's the all the Vikings were bringing in Davis for.
I don't know why he hasn't, um Maybe Belichick's happy with what he has in his linebacking corps.
Yeah, Chuck might.
He might just be trying to go with the younger guys.
Chase one of its looks great, by the way.
He does looks phenomenal.
I want to set up a little piece on Thursday where we actually focus on Chase.
One of it's a little bit because I wanna I wanna give him the time he deserves.
He destroyed Kahlo side.
Yeah, he destroyed.
He's gonna destroy a lot of players. Yeah.
Yeah, he blew up.
I don't Yeah, Joe, I don't know why.
I mean, he's 28 years old that says the Vikings are bringing him in.
I don't know why the Patriots have been brought him in for a workout.
I really couldn't tell you.
So do just so you know, we've got 96 people watching us live on SportsCastr right now.
What's up to everybody? And a bunch of those, probably on clutch points as well as broadcaster has invested heavy into the DPM commentary to make sure that we get our vision out there.
Yesterday is my first dream.
Yesterday on the brand new railroad network, I was I was telling you, 15,000 views on SportsCastr.
That's crazy, man.
Big, big, big number.
Yeah, I gotta thank SportsCastr and I'm basically told to expect those kind of numbers in the in the high thousands.
A lot with with what? They're investing into getting the brand exposure out.
There s Oh, I've got to thank Sportscast there for doing that.
And, you know, and I think we need to acknowledge the YouTube crowd.
Who, um, you know, if it wasn't for the YouTube crowd, this show wouldn't exist because you and I probably never would have met because I would have been to nobody.
You wouldn't have followed me on Twitter, and we never would have, You know, you would have made me laugh with your jokes on Twitter, and we never would have, you know, never would've brought you on as a guest and turned it into what it is now.
Seriously, it transpired very quickly.
It started out slow.
It was about a year because you're you're one of my show once.
And then I brought you back, and then you brought me on your show, and then my guest canceled.
You pinch hit for me, came back on, and then I finally just said, Why don't we just do a show together? You know, And you're like, Yeah, why not? And this could work and things have just exploded.
But I got to thank YouTube crowd, man.
And that's why we're That's why we're back on YouTube.
When I talked, SportsCastr, one of things I said is I'd like to be back on YouTube.
I've been accused of big timing.
I don't know what big timing means.
Um, I'm not a big timer.
I promise you that.
But a lot of people called me a big timer, man.
And, uh, it just makes me laugh because I'm not a big time.
I just, you know, SportsCastr is is making an investment in to me, and I have to repay SportsCastr, you know, by doing a lot, you know, by putting in the work for them, um, in the exclusive content and stuff that I do with them.
I mean, when you're a paying me a salary and be, um, invested me in a point where I'm now getting into the, you know, I did a video.

That's gonna blow up our exposure, You know, I got to do it, But, man I gotta look at the YouTube crowd to man. I understand.
If it wasn't for you, all that have been supporting me since 2017 I you know, I would never be in this position.
