Yeah, and we're back.
What's going on, everybody? This is rare out.
That man over there is Connor Carney.
I am from DPM Sports talk.
That man over there is from Connor commentary.
And this is DP and commentary.
Welcome, everybody. Connor.
Man, I think that we had a bit of a screw up there with our starting video.
E had a bit of a delay here on my end, so we way might have screwed it up.
But that's not what we're all good, right? Alright, Connor man, this might be the, uh I don't know.
Most obvious statement I'm gonna make of the year.
Okay, but the New England Patriots need to be at their absolute best this weekend when they take on the Seattle Seahawks.
Man, I finally got to sit down and watch that Seattle Atlanta game yesterday, and, um, look, I two takeaways from that game, let me give you my two takeaways first because and I'm gonna contradict myself here.
And you know what? I'm a hypocrite.
Um, yes, Russell Wilson was impressive, but when you look at numbers like 88% completion rates, you look at everything that they did offensively, I don't know if my expectation was just through the roof of what that game was gonna look like, but I watched the condense game against Atlanta and I don't know.
I just think I expected more than what I saw.
Um, and I saw a lot of things that the Patriots could do both defensively and offensively.
Now I'm on another podcast on Wednesday nights on Jonah Bows Channel called the N F Podcast, and I had to give my picks on who I think, who I'm gonna take this week, either Seattle or New England.
And I said, Even though my head is telling me to pick the Seattle Seahawks, my heart is telling me to go with New England.
I'll be a Homer on this, but there's a part of me, man.
I like this matchup, and I think that is good.
A Seattle can be.
There's things that the Patriots could dio.
What's your initial thoughts going into this weekend? And then I'll we'll go over what Bill Belichick had to say about Russell Wilson.
Well, my initial thoughts are, I think when we both did this a couple weeks ago, when we made our picks for the entire season.
We thought that they would lose in Seattle.
One of the things I think I just the last time is that I completely forgot that they're not gonna have the crowd, which I think this is the biggest stadium in the entire NFL for the crowd to make a difference.
I think Russell Wilson's lights out, but I mean D K.
Metcalf in Tyler Lockett.
I think those people who step on Gilmore and J.
Jackson are capable of shutting down.
I think if we can slow down Chris Carson, and if Cam Newton is able to keep up with Russell Wilson, there's no reason they can't win this game.
Yeah, and I agree with you because I really looked out on this.
This isn't gonna be about the Patriots defense stopping the Seattle Seahawks.
I think it's a lot like when you play the Baltimore Ravens, the offense is going to do what it does, and, um, or you don't want to stop it.
What do you want to stop it? But you're not more trying to stop it.
You're trying to slow it down.
You're trying to not let it get out of hand.
It's going to be Maura about whether or not the Patriots offense can penetrate that Seattle defense.
And one thing I noticed when I watched that game, and I don't think it landed did enough of it.
But they were able to run the football on Seattle and Brian kind of lift them up.
He did he put up, like, 450 yards or something crazy like that, But, um, but it's funny.
It wasn't a productive 4 50.
It was really, really weird that a lot in Atlanta they do.
It wasn't a productive for 50.
It was just It was a different game, but I just wanna I I really noticed that Todd Gurley was able to get a lot of yards when they ran the ball, but the problem was they didn't run it enough, at least in my opinion, and it's not like at any point in that game, Seattle was really get, you know, running away with it.
They kind of just moved off it.
I'm just pulling up the stats here right now.
Give me one second.
Um but I'm pulling out here.
It is s I'm gonna look at Atlanta's the Falcons Todd Gurley average four yards per carry.
Your in the ball 14 times for 56 yards, but he had a couple of really long runs.
I mean, he had a long of 15.
It's not like it was like 25 or 30 yard run, but he was picking up chunk yards, and I think that this Patriots running back corps are good enough.
Thio do this, but we have to respect Russell Wilson.
Absolutely, and the Patriots are gonna go into this game respecting Russell Wilson.
Here's what Bill Belichick had to say about Russell Wilson.
This is the exact quote. Quote.
This guy is a tremendous player.
Honestly, I think he's in a way, maybe underrated by the media or the fans.
I don't know, but I don't really see anybody better than this player.
He can do everything He's got obviously great leadership, playmaking skills.
He plays very well in the most critical situations in the game.
You can put him up against anybody since he's been in the league, literally anybody in any category, really.
His winning percentage is impressive.
He's there for every game, never missed a game.
He's got a great ability to do the right thing at the right time.
He has tremendous vision and sees the field extremely well.
I don't think there is a better deep all passer in the league in terms of decision making in accuracy.
He attacks literally every inch of the field.
You have to defend with him.
Deep balls, sidelines to scrambles, his ability to get the ball to his playmakers in space.
They have a lot of good players that are hard to handle.
Put them all together and it's orchestrated by Wilson.
That's a that's very, very hard to defend.
So that's Bill Belichick on Russell Wilson.
Yeah, he's giving him a rave review, and I agree with him.
I feel like he's overshadowed the law by I don't know Assad's fans, the media, whoever because everyone wants to talk about Patrick Mahomes.
And before Patrick Mahomes, I felt like the guy was Aaron Rodgers who got the spotlight on.
Obviously, both of them are studs, but I think Russell Wilson's in the same category.
Yeah, and people have been watching me for like since 2017 since the day I came out, have heard me say that Russell Wilson is the most underrated quarterback in the NFL to call him the best quarterback in the NFL.
Well, I don't know if I could debate it, but it'll definitely give me pause and make me think about Hey.
Is Russell Wilson? Is he what Bill Belichick just said? Iwas.
You know, and we also know Bill Belichick, the guy who overly praises players on off that he loves, like a prop up the opponent.
But to say he's the best player in the NFL, that's a little bit different of That's not a typical Belichick E and straight thing, right? Usually he doesn't go in like that.
Usually it's very like they're very good.
They do a lot of things. Well, they're really good.
We need to prepare.
Yeah, and that's where I'm at with this.
So I'm sitting here thinking like maybe there's something to this, and I think it's It's funny because he has a lot of flashy plays.
But for this type of style, he plays like he's not a flashy player.
Do you get what I'm saying? Like very melancholy, very relaxed, very calm, he scrambles.
But you don't see him scramble, say, like we've seen Aaron Rodgers scramble where it's like, you know, edge of your seat.
Oh my gosh, it's almost like professional scrambling.
Like he set up the play to scramble.
It's like, Yeah, I'm just doing what I have to do and it's really, really It's interesting.
So we start getting into this conversation because we hear all about.
Obviously, Patrick Mahomes is the wonder boy in the NFL right now.
I'm sure Chiefs fans or just I haven't checked out there Twitter after this comment.
But I'm sure they're like, ever heard of Patrick Mahomes, you know, But yeah, man, I think Russell Wilson's gonna be tough.
But again when it comes to this game and the Patriots having to be their best again obvious statement of the year obvious alert, Um, I think it really is the breakdown of we know what the Seattle offense is going to do.
It's the defense not letting to get out of hand.
That being said, though, we've We've talked about it this week.
We're talking about it now.
I think I've talked about this death, people who watch me every day, you're probably sick of hearing me say this, but yes, Stefan Gilmore, unlock it and J.
C. Jackson on Metcalfe.
I think that, you know, guys like Philip Anderson can or Anderson Phillips can handle somebody like a Jacob pollster who is the number one tight end, right? Right.
I agree completely.
And then I think that the issue might be just containing Chris Carson because they also have a very good running game there.
But I was, Dude, I was impressed with the Patriots run defense against me.
Now it's a different running back.
Different running back Jordan Howard in that braid are not anything that anyone really gonna be concerned about.
But still, you can only play your opponent.
You can only play who you play, right, And I mean, we went through this a lot last year.
Look at their opponents.
E mean, I think the difference between this year's team and last year's team, you know, besides the whole quarterback thing is there gonna be tested right away.
You know, the Patriots first test came against Baltimore.
We nine, right, right.
That's that's really true.
And obviously that that didn't go well and that took nine weeks for us to see what could really happen when they faced a really formidable opponent.
And I mean, really.
I mean, the Patriots kind of fought back in that game for a bit, and I mean, we think about that a little bit, fumble a fumble, right? Because if not, they were going down to score and they could have made a game out of that.
But that just took the wind right out of the sails.
But you know, it's what happened with the Patriots last year, though, is they let the game get out of hand to quickly.
They're always playing from behind.
I think about the Kansas City game.
Yes, the Patriots got screwed on the whole Nikkila Harry thing, but weren't they down like 21? Nothing or something like that.
You know, before we even got to that point or 21 or 17 they got themselves a whole Uh, yeah, they put themselves in a big hole against the team.
You can't put yourself in a hole against you can't.
You can't fight back against the Kansas City Chiefs.
You can't fight back against the Baltimore Ravens, and you can't fight back against Seattle.
You have to keep pace with them.
This is why I don't think it comes down to What can our defense do? Because we know what our defense is gonna dio.
Seattle is going to score.
Let's not be silly, guys.
Seattle is going to score this weekend, and it's gonna be How much do they score? I'm looking for Ah, Bend, but Bend.
But don't break right.
You know, I'm gonna take every field goal as a victory defense and it's all gonna be come down to Cam Newton and what they do now, Josh McDaniels earlier this week.
I don't know if you saw this, we might have talked about a Tuesday.
If we did, I apologize.
But he's alluding that we might see a completely different game plan than we saw against the Miami Dolphins.
Right, Right, which I don't think would be a bad thing.
So we're so used.
Well, now I shouldn't say we're so used to have seen one game with Cam Newton.
But you've known him for his running abilities.
What do you think we're going to see from a different game point from a different game standpoint? What do you think we're going to see out of out of the Patriots this weekend.
Well, I think Josh McDaniels probably knows that they're going to need to score points to keep up with Russell Wilson.
Like you said, Hopefully it's been, but don't break.
I'm hoping that they could hold them toe like a low twenties.
But in that case, I think they probably knew that Miami wasn't gonna score much.
So they just kind of ran the ball.
They killed the clock.
But I think he knows they're gonna need to score.
And they probably want to score early so they could go up and play from a lead, You know what I mean? So I think they're gonna throw the ball a lot more.
I don't think they're going to really try and kill the clock like they did last week.
And I also think that where when you're looking at it, it z Seattle has the defense to put a spy on Cam Newton to not allow him to run like that.
And I mean one guy that I we haven't really talked about this week, but Jamal Adams Oh, my God.
I forgot about him.
Yes, Andi, I was talking.
I I can't remember if it was Joe or Lawrence I was talking to about this week.
But Jamal Adams is gonna be hungry.
You know, this is like, you know, he was a jet.
He knows the page, like he you know, he wants that he's gonna wanna beat the Patriots, and so they have it.
So maybe we see a more of a mix.
Maybe we see Newton's stand in the pocket a little bit more.
I don't know, like, I don't know, you know, or do they go back? But I don't think you could do the same thing every week.
But I also think now they've had another game.
They've seen what they could Dio.
What I'd like to see the Patriots do is getting Akil Harry involved right away.
Use his strength, use his his catchable ability.
Um, you know, good on Cam Newton came to his defense this week.
I could see that he was getting crucified by the media.
Absolutely came to his defense this week. Way to go, Cam.
Um, you know, are you expecting I'm expecting a close game.
The point spread is for E.
I am not laying four point. I'm not giving.
I'm not spotting the Patriots four points.
I'm not gonna come out guys and say I'm 100% confident the Patriots are gonna win this game.
I'm gonna be honest with you.
You and I with Cam Newton on this team Now, I don't think this defense was good when we we thought they were gonna be is good when we or at least we're gonna put up the kind of performance they put up against Miami when we made these pics.
Um, I'm willing to say I could see the Seattle Seahawks win this game.
Yeah, but from a betting standpoint, I'm not laying four points.
I don't think I wanna lay four points either.
Just because I think that this is like, I think we said it before as they're gonna be a field goal game.
So I could see this being 24.
You know, there's something in that something in that range.
I I wouldn't want to go the extra point.
And that's why I'm saying that I think this is gonna be one of those games that we're gonna look back, win or lose, and we're gonna it's gonna come down to 23 maybe four place.
Oh, yeah, probably. Yeah.
When you go back and look at it, that's gonna make the difference.
And it's probably gonna be the turnover ratio turnover ratio.
Both teams don't turn over the ball a lot.
And but I think, yeah, but I don't think it's gonna come down to our offensive plays.
I think the place they're gonna come on a smudges, I say it's, you know it's our offense for is their defense will be the difference.
But it's gonna be the place that have toe just Does the defense allow Russell Wilson to make those three or four plays? Or does our defense make those plays? And that's what it's gonna come down to.
And like I said, I believe that when we're looking at it fuel goals or victories, and if they're only scoring three and the pages can respond with seven, you know that sort of going to be the benchmark now week, too.
Do you look at this is a benchmark game for the Patriots, Or do you just look at this is week two.
I kind of look at this right now is weak, too, just because it's such a long season.
It's week two out of 17 weeks in 16 games.
Yeah, this is gonna be a really good test right out the gate because they get in one of the best teams in the league, or at least who were projecting to Bay.
And I think it's gonna be a very close game, and it's gonna be a very tough opponent right out the gate to see what they're made off.
It's gonna be very difficult not to overreact to this game one way or the other, even if it's a blowout on either side.
Um, what? I think we need to look at this game, win or lose as Patriot fans for really trying to evaluate what the Patriots are gonna be this season.
It's those how much a their fight and their competitiveness.
I always go back.
I'm gonna talk about the dynasty, the book from Jeff Benedict and a little bit because I did finish it today.
I don't know how far you are, but I finished today, Um, but I was reading about the Monday night loss in Kansas City, and Belichick kept alluding to it was the fight in the compete level from the team.
I remember him saying that they came down and scored a touchdown.
I think Jimmy Garoppolo came in.
He threw a touchdown to Gronk at the end of the fourth quarter when they were down by, like, 30 and they just competed the whole time.
And not only to throw a touchdown.
Gronk fought off with three defenders.
I remember that, Yeah, it wasn't like a walk in.
It's like there was no chance they were going to come back and Gronk fought for that touchdown piece for that touchdown.
So I think that's what we're gonna be looking for.
The good things.
Was the run game working? Um, you know Sony? Michelle.
Can he keep up his solid stats? By the way, can I just I need to digress for one second for the Patriot.
Fans have been calling me out all week when I said Michelle, you know, ran well in his limited opportunity and you threw out while he only ran 3.
7, you know, average 3.
7 yards per carry, the same garbage is last year.
One of those carries was from the one yard line for a touchdown.
So that's going to affect a huge when you only have 10 runs.
Number two, he got stopped one time at the line of scrimmage.
Besides that, he was picking up pretty decent yards.
But when you know when you're when you're running by committee like that of one yard touchdown run and one stop is gonna drastically affect your yards per average.
So, please, if you didn't watch the game and you're just reading the stats, please don't come at me with that kind of ridiculous number.
He passed the test, he passed the I passed the test and I thought, and I'm a numbers guy.
I'm an ****ytics guy.
Dude, I'm about to have the rare out channel launched here on SportsCastr.
So not just like a page.
I'm getting a whole channel buddy.
And the description they wrote about me with Statistical Wizard because on SportsCastr news, that's my argument, because Lawrence is our eye test guy.
You know, Lawrence, And I'm gonna be calling Lawrence out tonight.
He knows that I warned him.
Yeah, he knows it's all in good.
Just were, um but I always like to give heads up when I do it.
But, you know, he's an eye test guy, and I'll come back and what I really love, because he's not just I test.
Film breaks down really, really well.
And what I love is is when my ****ytic numbers match with his eye test, you know, like it's it works it out.
It just works out so nicely that way.
That's both worlds, right? There it is.
So Okay, so I gotta share this with you.
Yeah, the last time that Wilson and Cam Newton faced off.
Okay, Because this is what I know we're seeing a close game, but I'm wondering if your before I give it to you Are you expecting a high scoring game? Are you expecting a low scoring game or a mid range game? Wow.
I don't remember at all.
I'm gonna say a high scoring game.
I don't know why.
For this game, what do you think for this game? I think it's gonna be a mid scoring game.
I think it's gonna be, like 20 mid twenties to mid twenties.
I'm just looking up the over under right now.
My guess is like 47 a half for some 44.
Okay, so they think it's gonna be low scoring.
So are you gonna take you over the under on 44? Wow, that makes me a little nervous that Vegas thinks it's gonna be that low.
I would take the over.
I'm gonna take the over two on 40 for the last time Wilson Newton faced off was in November of 2018 when Newton was playing and kind of looked like the Newton that the Patriots have right now.
They combined for six touchdowns, Wilson and Newton and 662 total yards.
So you're talking at least three and change on either side, Right? Right.
I am definitely taking the over in this game, right? You think we'll see a repeat of this or I Do I honestly, I think camp's gonna swing the ball E.
I think that Seattle's gonna put everybody in the line of scrimmage and he's just gonna be quick shots.
I would like to see Ryan iso involved in this game.
I would like to see um, Nikkila Harry involved early. Obviously.
James White involved early Edelman is gonna be involved.
I don't think we're going to see shots of the mere bird.
Um, I would run the ball a little bit. Used play action.
I would run a Tom Brady type of offense.
I really would and really just throw off the entire game plan of Of of Seattle.
I'd love to see that happen to I think that they should throw the ball a lot more.
Okay, let's move on a little bit.
Um, maybe we could start by here at DP and Commentary offering our deepest condolences to the Belichick family.
Bill Bell checks.
Mother died at 98 years old today.
Gave an interview.
I believe it was today or yes, yesterday or today.
Um, that was actually really emotional, so I'm gonna play it.
I'm a new I'm gonna play the interview.
Yeah, I didn't realize he was an only child.
Yeah, And you could tell the man loved his mother.
So I'm just going to share my screen here and share the audio.
And it's about three minutes long, guys.
So let, but, uh, we will, uh, will just take a listen to what What Belichick has to say.
I wanted to ask you how important her support was for for both you and your dad, given the profession that you both were in.
No, thanks, Phil.
Um, yeah, well, she was a very unselfish person that sacrificed a lot.
Um, you know, for her family, Um and so, of course, me personally.
And I appreciate, you know and love her for that and many other things, but yeah, you know, my dad was away a lot on scouting trips, and so I always kind of grew up with her, um, on the weekends on football weekends, um, at home.
And so we watched hundreds of games together, whether it was Navy games or listen to him on the radio or watched other games that were on TV and so forth.
When, you know, my dad was away on Friday night, Saturday.
And, you know, sometimes sunday morning depend on how far he had to travel for the games that he was scouting.
So, you know, football season, um, for me was as a kid was, you know, my dad getting home late during the week, and, um, my mom on the weekends for, you know, toe watch football games.
And so that was, you know, we we became very close and, you know, shared those experiences together.
Um, And then, you know, the only time really that I saw my dad was during the kind of end of the game week was the Army Navy game.
Um, And then, you know, like I said when he got home later, you know, later, at night, when I was older, I was, you know, able to stay up and see him, and, um, you know, I stayed out of trouble.
I might get to do something with him later tonight.
But, you know, I just didn't wanna act badly for my mom and have her turned me in, which she didn't do very often.
So, um, even though I was deserving of it, but so, yeah, we had a very close relationship there.
My mom was, um, really kind of an academic person.
She was very good in college.
And then after college, she worked for the map service during World War Two and translated European maps because she spoke seven languages.
Well, six at that time.
She didn't know Croatian, but so She was involved in the translation of maps during war effort and then came back and taught languages in, um, at Hiram after after the war started in 1945.
So, unfortunately, those language skills didn't rub off on her son.
And one language is really about all I have.
Um, but, you know, she encourage me toe, you know, not t do the things that I want to do.
She was very supportive.
Those, um I wish I could have been better in in the field that she was very good at.
Um and I tried that for a while, but I just didn't just didn't have it, um, in all honesty.
So I just just unp er of French, and that's about it.
Thank you very much, Kobe.
You know, that was Bill Belichick trying to stay his consistent, stoic self.
But you could see the emotion starting to come up in him and being a guy who's so close to his mother, I can only imagine how he's feeling right now, right? It's tough.
It's tough to be prepared for a week with this going on.
You know what I mean? They still have lives.
I think we kind of forget about that.
It's funny how sometimes we forget about the human element of things.
And it's funny because we're gonna talk about the dynasty here.
We'll find out where you're at in the book, and then we'll talk about it.
But it was in that book that the human side of things came out.
Um, you know, I'm gonna give you a spoiler if I can.
I'm sorry, but I think I have to use it.
Really fits in here.
Um, it's right near the end of the book.
I read it this morning, and it I literally was one of those where I stopped and did one of these.
Bill Belichick actually cares about what his players think about him, right? He knows that they believe, you know, they think he's an a hole and whatnot, but it actually hurts him when his players don't like him.
He legitimately loves his his players.
And, you know, at the end of the book, Benedict lists all the guys who did sit down interviews for this book, and Bill Belichick was one of them.
Eso I don't think he's making it up.
I think that's coming out of Bill Belichick's mouth.
That's the only way he's going to get that information.
Actually, you know he's hurt when players don't like him.
Like when Danny Amendola throws shots and that kind of thing and that, you know, it's those kind of moments that humanizes these guys because they're entertainers in my you know what I mean? Like mine has always think them as entertainers.
It's, you know, the NFL and professional sports in general, to me, is no different than the W W E.
Except that they're, you know, the W W E has predetermined outcomes, and the other professional sports don't, um, you know, football is not a way of life for me.
Football is entertainment.
Um, and I understand.
It's, you know, saying that it's stupid that I get paid to talk about football.
You know, both of us do.
Now you get paid now, Connor, you know, um but you know what I mean? Like, you know, we get paid to talk about football, so it is kind of a part of our life, but it's still like we're kind of like, in my opinion, were like talking heads trying to be entertaining for people talking about entertainers.
Yet, you know, here's Bill Belichick, who gets hurt when his players don't like him on.
Do you know when he loses his mother and his final words or thank you? See you guys in Seattle, I mean, it's I don't know.
Yeah, um, can't be easy, man e.
He was trying to stay still like he was kind of trying to stay on.
Belichick always is.
You know? I know he's so even keel.
It's tough to get a read on the guy, but I'm sure he's hurt.
And so God bless you. Yeah.
God bless again.
Yeah, No easy way to transition.
So we just have to transition off.
Um, you know, if this wasn't 2020 I wouldn't believe this next statement, but it's it's 2020.
Did you know that there's a possibility of this game might not happen Sunday night? Yes, somewhat, but not really.
And I haven't paid that close attention to it because I thought it definitely would.
The air quality in Seattle because of all the fires in the West Coast and you know our hearts by hearts.
You know, I won't speak for Cano.
My heart goes out to everybody in In in the West Coast, in California, Seattle, this place that are dealing with those fires right now, I'm sure you feel the same.
Um, but the air, the air quality now they're supposed to be a turn in the weather.
Right? Which could make the air quality better heading in, you know, for Sunday night.
But I'm sitting there going.
It wouldn't be 2020 if this game was in jeopardy because of poor air quality. Right.
It's just another thing in the books of everything that's already happened, you know, with the clocks.
Uh, what, another month or so right In November 2 months.
I'm like, I don't want the clocks to go.
I don't want an extra hour of this year.
Like, I just want to get through 2020 and be done.
And over with this year, man like 2020 one is gonna have to be a hell of a year.
Well, the sad part is to is like for half of 2021.
It's probably gonna be the same crap we're dealing with now. I know.
So it appears were spiking back here in Canada again.
Are you? Yeah. My province.
Here in Ontario, we had, like, 293 cases today.
313 cases yesterday, 200 are, like, 75 a day before.
Those were our numbers back in April.
They just put more restraint.
They just put restrictions back on us.
So, yeah, we were allowed to have not me.
Because as I told you, I'm in a little suburb just outside of Toronto, so I don't fall into this, Um, but in Toronto and and a couple of the other bigger areas around there And Ottawa, our capital.
As you know now, as I know now, yeah.
Eso were allowed events up to 50 were allowed gatherings of 50 people out inside in 100 people outside.
So, like outdoor weddings, that kind of thing, I can have people at my place.
I'm not gonna have 50 people in my backyard.
There's not enough space.
Um, but it's not our bars in our restaurants because they're actually adhering to the social distancing and all that.
It's the it's like these get togethers and stuff.
So they've now restricted to 10 people inside 25 people outside, so reductive by 75 people outside and reductive by, um, by 40 people inside.
So we're starting to see restrictions come back onto us now, right? 2020 2020 minute just continues.
Keeps going. Mess.
That's a good question.
I haven't looked at the numbers recently.
E look at your numbers the other day just to be and you look comparable.
Toe what? We're going through an Ontario right now across the province.
Yeah, which? I mean, when you look it's not that bad when you compare it to like Florida, but it's still Florida, I think.
Still just going Florida is a different breed.
Uh, you know where they're on their own people.
We'll get into it after, you know, maybe we both gotta buy a jersey that I sent you today.
Yeah, That's where you'll find that Florida.
Oh, that's what I don't want to tell people because I know that there's just people to get mad when we say what it is, so we'll keep the suspense eso Where are you In the dynasty right now.
They just want the first Super Bowl, so I haven't read much since before I got the snow ball game.
Now they just want the first Super Bowl.
So you've read You've read two games to games.
That's a chapter.
Yeah, it was chapter two. Not too much last night.
Okay, so I have a lot.
I have a lot of good stuff coming up.
You do? So I won't tell you any specific things.
I'll speak in generalities, but I mean, e can talk.
We can talk about the dynasty.
Every single show, right? Things is gonna kind of be the great book it is.
It's a fantastic book.
And you and I can can We can talk about it privately as you keep coming across, but I think publicly this will be the last time we talked about.
Unless we reference it.
Want me to tell you what I determined from everything? And you? You might have a different determination because I realized today when I finished it that depending how you want to take the book, you you can be swayed in different directions.
of how you take things right.
There's always an argument who's responsible for the Patriots dynasty.
Bill Belichick or Tom Brady, right? I mean, the the argument is always there, and I've always sat on the it took both of them.
Um, but if you made me pick aside, I picked Bill Belichick.
You know what I mean? Um, because of his system offense, defense, his salary cap system.
I mean, you're you've read past that part where the reason he was hired was because of the salary cap right before hit.
Before that, coaches really didn't have any idea how to function with when it came to the salary cap.
Bill Parcells paid people who he liked and wanted to keep.
Yeah, we're Bill Belichick, you know, just like it was like an offshoot conversation with Robert Kraft and basically said, Yeah, here.
You know, he had a system, and he really wanted to implement it.
And Robert Kraft, you know, Mr Kraft, let him do it.
Uh, but I've always leaned towards Bill Belichick.
A lot of people lean towards Tom Brady.
The argument is over.
Robert Kraft is 101 100% responsible for this dynasty.
Brady and Belichick respect each other.
That's what I got out of this, too.
There is a deep respect that they both have for each other.
When you get to the end, the final chapter, the epilogue and it goes through Brady telling Craft and Belichick that he's leaving.
It's almost like the perfect ending to a movie.
I literally heard music in my head when I was going through the whole thing, and it's, you know, Brady.
It's that I'm not gonna tell you anymore because it'll spoil the mood.
But I'm gonna tell you, I heard music.
Um, Brady wanted to leave in 2010.
Oh, really? Oh, my God.
Imagine you did.
And all the pay cuts and stuff he took and everybody always blaming Belichick and saying, You know, Belichick always cheap doubt.
Bill Belichick did not negotiate Tom Brady's contracts right Now that I've run into this, this makes sense.
When it comes to the quarterback position, Robert Kraft negotiates all quarterback contracts.
Yeah, so Bill Belichick has never been involved in a Tom Brady contract negotiation.
That doesn't surprise me.
After reading the whole the whole stocks of the book in 2018 the year they won the Super Bowl.
Robert Kraft was willing to let Brady out of his contract before or after they won the Super Bowl before, before that, Really, UM, they had a meeting.
And apparently he called Brady crying and said, If you want to go, you can go.
And that irritated me.
I'll tell you why.
Because just a few months before they traded with Jimmy Garoppolo right and spoiler alert, Robert Kraft never intervened.
Bill Belichick never tried to trade Tom Brady.
Bill Belichick new that Robert Kraft would never allow him to trade Tom Brady.
So it wasn't even a thought.
XIX Focus was trying to sign Jimmy Garoppolo, and then when he realized he couldn't it wasn't about money.
Garoppolo did not want to sit on the bench behind Brady anymore.
He wanted to play, so there was a lot of There's a lot of things that have been said.
There's a lot of things that Patriot fans have taken as gospel right that they blame Bill Belichick for Robert Kraft meddled a lot and did a lot of negotiations and a lot of things, you know, the whole Guerrero being banned from the building thing was because he was publicly publicly debating Patriots training staff and medical staff about player injuries and stuff.
He was interfering and intervening and things that had, and it wasn't about Tom Brady.
It was all the players on the team.
Oh, really? He would have loud public arguments with he publicly told Sports Illustrated he doesn't agree with the Patriots medical team.
Yeah, remember something like that? So you kind of look and go.
If you're the head coach of an organization, I don't blame you because it's Tom Brady's safety blanket.
But it ****ed Giselle off, right? Giselle did not like living in New England, and I think a lot of the under appreciation stuff that Tom Brady had in his head came from Giselle.
That doesn't surprise me.
That's my take away on it.
That was never said in the book.
But when I start reading between everything and Bill Belichick is not a people person, and he could have done a lot more to improve that relationship with Tom Brady, that's my perspective.
Okay, so I know there's Patriot fans out there going Thank you, Ray.
You're finding the green us.
Yes, I agree with you.
He could have done a lot more to show appreciation of Tom Brady. 1000%.
That's what I got in this book.
Tom Brady is also a little bit of a cry, baby.
Um, that's what I got out of it, too.
Um, Tom Brady, I think, takes himself more serious than Bill Belichick takes himself.
Really? Yeah, that's been my overall take from the book.
Robert Kraft, though, managed to take these two personalities in 2018.
Belichick and Brady hardly spoke.
It was like that.
Like that's where their relationship was.
That right? So I'm gonna leave it there because I don't want to spoil specific stories.
I gave overviews.
I don't think I told anybody anything Blockbuster.
I mean, if you if you're a real fan of this team, you've probably seen it so far.
You know the generalities of all the stories.
It's all the little intricate stuff that you kind of go.
Oh, I didn't realize that's how it happened.
Just a phenomenal job for in all sorts of intricate details in there.
So it's That's where, where, where they're at, You know what I mean? Like so that's where you kind of roll around.
So I think that at the end of day, we all know the stories in general.
Now it's just all the little my new details but Robert Kraft and how he kept his dynasty together, putting my stamp on it when you're done, I hope you finish it soon, because when you're done, I want to know what you think about it on.
Do you think is responsible if you agree with me or if you think a different way, so we'll leave it there for now.
So as I said, Cam Newton man defended Nikkila Harry the other day.
People going out from over the fumble had a lot of good things.
Um, Cam Newton is a captain on this Patriots team.
I remember the day when people said that Cam Newton wouldn't fit the Patriots way and he wasn't a fit for the Patriots and was very critical of this move.
And and you know he's not going to get along with Bill Belichick.
Let me tell you why he is the perfect player for the Patriots and the perfect leader for the Patriots.
He was asked about leadership today tell me if this is not a Bill Belichick answer, and this is Cam Newton talking about leadership to him, Camp said Quote.
It's just holding yourself accountable, and that's what I try to do, whether it's via words or via actions.
I have to make sure that I'm not being selfish and not thinking about the team and knowing that I'm putting the team first and a lot of things I do.
Like I said, whether it's leading by example or just giving a pep talk, we all can lead.
But in order to be a great leader, you also have to be a great follower.
And there's a lot of guys on this team that I follow and see from afar and just get the little nuggets with how they prepare and just work on day to day basis.
I'm trying to put my repertoire of living each day and every day is that not a New England patriot? Yeah, it seems like he's adapted very quickly to the New England Patriot Way, which is still a thing, by the way.
And now let me ask you, did he adapt to the Patriot way or was that already him, and he just was He just misunderstood because I can't see a guy just buying.
And I just feel like he was misunderstood.
E think maybe a little bit of both.
I really don't know Cam Newton before he came here.
That well, you know what I mean.
So I don't I don't know.
I don't remember listening to him.
I don't remember him talking.
Really? I remember the outfits, but that's about it.
But you just him coming right out from the start with the accountability line.
I'm like, Yeah, this is a Patriot answer right here.
Yeah, that was like you expected it to be Bill Belichick, right? Exactly.
There was also a time, Connor.
Now, I know for a fact you and I laughed about this, but there was a time that people believed people actually believed that Cam Newton was going to be fighting for the starting job over Jarrett Stidham.
I remember the comments on my YouTube page when I did the initial Cam Newton reaction where I was just floored.
Um, Bill Belichick doesn't just hand the job.
The people Cam Newton will be cut before training camp.
I did remember somebody saying that.
Yeah, this is Jared Stidham team.
Jared Stidham is the third string quarterback on the Jared Stidham lost his job, his backup role toe. Brian Hoyer.
Brian Hoyer was cut last season so Jared Stidham could be Tom Brady's backup.
He lost his backup role.
So the question is now.
I guess Ken Jarett Stidham leapfrog Brian Hoyer by the end of 2020 because if he's going to be the future of this team, even though I actually believe Cam Newton is gonna be the future of this team, But if he's gonna be the future of this team, he has to leapfrog Hoyer and at least become the backup right? But there's a couple of little interesting things I read today, so I want to read you a quote here.
This is from quarterback Jed Fish, right? Quarterback coach Jed Fish.
Hey, says quote, Jared did a really nice job in camp.
All three of those guys did, and they're all competing every day in practice.
Jared and Brian are taking a lot of reps in competing with one another just the way the numbers game work.
In the NFL, it's difficult to dress more than two quarterbacks on any given game, but they'll continue to compete with one another and continue to try to make each other better and make can better.
As I said earlier in camp, rising tide lifts all ships.
So I mean, he puts a nice spin on it, right? You know, he could still win this job.
There's a nice piece, but here was the piece.
So you and I, we both believe that Stadium was a healthy scratch because it was hip injury.
Correct? E, I think.
Sunday after the game, when we were overreacting to the win against Miami, we both said, Yeah, it's definitely the hip injury.
Well, Fish was asked, Is it because of the Was it, you know, because of the hip injury? And he said, Quote, I don't know If I would say that was an impact, I think it was a matter of just They've continued to really compete with one another, and at the moment of the time last week, the decision was made that Brian was gonna be the number two.
So I take from that.
Brian Hoyer has been the better quarterback I take from that.
Yeah, either he was the better quarterback or they're just looking for other roster spots at that point.
So they're like, who we got, who? We not gonna put out their stadium.
But why not set him over? Hoyer, like Hoyer, has to be the better quarterback.
So is that I mean, if you are one of those people that believe that Jared Stidham is the future quarterback of this team, does it concern you that he went from being the number two last year to now being the number three? It should Yeah.
If you think Jared Stidham is gonna be the future of the team, it should definitely concern you the fact that he's not even dressing.
So even if Cam do it was to get injured.
As of right now, they don't want him to take over.
They rather have Brian Hoyer, who's what, like 36 hasn't been a starter in years now.
I didn't want to talk about Jared Stidham tonight.
I'll be honest with you.
Um, I don't read about Jared Stidham when I'm preparing for our show on Tuesday and Thursday.
If I'm preparing for Dear Pats Nation on Monday when I'm preparing my three blocks for techno whole Jared Stidham.
Since training camp has not been at the top of my mind, right? You know, I don't say science can't do any kind of win.
Yeah, but the reason I bring him up is because and and this is I went and looked for the fish argument or the fish comments after I read a really interesting little nugget on musket fire.
This was by Jerry Trotta, and this is about the jerks to them injury.
Now, what I did not realize is Jared Stidham is apparently in Bill Belichick's doghouse.
Okay, so this could be not This could not be about performance.
And I led us to this because I wanted people to think that we're talking about performance, but here's what musket fire said Quote.
The rumblings out of camp suggest that the Patriots coaching staff was frustrated with how little Stidham revealed about his injuries, which makes you speculate if it happened during a non football related activity.
Whatever the case, the 24 year old subsequently found himself in head coach Bill Belichick's doghouse, which is somewhere no player ever wants to be right.
That changes the whole lot of things.
I think maybe he was also trying to play down the injury because he still thought he was competing for the starting job, so he was being less than candid about it.
There's no way he could have believed he was competing for the starting job.
E a za competitors.
I'd be disappointed if you didn't, but they also think it's a non football injury.
Is that is that Is that the tape that they think was what happened? He wasn't up front.
He wasn't honest about the injury and they think it was a non football injury.
So perhaps Brian Hoyer has an outperform.
Jarrett Stidham Perhaps Bill Belichick is looking at this 24 year old kid and saying, You did something stupid off the field when you should be focusing on nothing but football.
When you're a New England patriot and number two, you kind of hit this injury.
You didn't really weren't upfront with us.
The hell with you.
Enjoy holding the clipboard in street clothes.
That's the only thing I could come.
That's the only thing I could come up with right now.
That would make sense, maybe he was jumping out of airplanes.
Going skiing? Uh huh.
Helicopter skiing, Right.
Did you? Did you? I had no idea about that.
For for anyone who doesn't know through blood so used to do that before we signed a big contract.
I love after they won the Super Bowl.
He's just like, maybe I'm gonna go helicopter skiing because he knew his contract was just void after that.
I didn't care what the Patriots had to say, but we got 12 minutes left.
Time to do our week, two picks Now, I did my week one picks last week on the show.
You were sick. Little.
I can't make it. I gotta throw.
Um, but now you're back.
So let's do our we two picks together, right? And then you're gonna get your mom's picks this weekend so we can find out how we did against her. Yeah.
Are you watching the game with the parents house again? I'm working this Sunday, unfortunately, so I don't think so.
Last Sunday, I did.
But you can watch the Patriots game.
At least I can. Yep.
And, uh, and we'll pop on for 15 minutes after the game.
You're still good with that late at night and passed both our bedtimes passed both our bedtimes, and that's alright.
I don't think people understand like that.
You and I go to bed as soon as the show's over.
I know. Seriously, my bedtime, like, 10.
Now, we just happened to be on the show, so I can't go yet.
But e mean we've told way Told this 100 times, like a soon as the show is over.
We're both just like, yeah, long days, man.
We don't even like converse.
We, like, communicate strictly through text message and then during the show, right? All right.
Okay. Let's get through the pics. Okay.
Now, I don't know what the score of this game is, but actually, I dio just Look, I was trying.
Apparently, I've had it running on the side here.
I haven't seen, you know, last week to kill time, I was doing play by play of the Kansas City Chiefs game.
Well, it's hard to do an hour by yourself, man.
Yeah, that is very true.
Who would you have taken this game, I would have taken the Browns and I'm not just saying next they're winning.
I think I had a feeling that Baker Mayfield was gonna have a good night.
I've been on two shows now, the N F podcast and on SportsCastr news today.
I think we're on Lawrence Owens Channel.
We did the pregame for this and I've taken the Browns and both I said, This is a game they had to win 21 to 13 at the half.
Right now, I'll be watching the condensed version of this tomorrow.
Alright, so Sunday one PM you've got the Atlanta Falcons taken on the Dallas Cowboys Cowboys.
So last week I went into making my pick, wanting to take the Dallas Cowboys while making my explanation off why I wanted to pick the Dallas Cowboys, because I'm going to give the same picks that I gave to Joe the yesterday.
So I'm gonna I'm gonna stay clean across the board.
I ended up talking myself out of it and pick the ramps.
Okay? Last night I went in to pick the Dallas Cowboys off the Atlanta Falcons over the Atlanta Falcons.
I talked myself out of it.
I liked what I saw out of Atlanta.
I'm taking the big upset.
I'm taking the Falcons to beat the Cowboys.
Cowboys gonna be.
Oh, and two after this game. Nice.
I think it's going to be a high scoring affair.
You got the Buffalo Bills at the Miami Dolphins? Buffalo Bills? Yeah, not even close.
I'm telling bills to bills to and I'll I'm taking the same.
You got the New York Giants versus the Chicago Bears.
The Giants did not look good the other night.
Khalil, Mack is going to sack Daniel Jones at least twice.
They're gonna be all over him.
Our Bears are three day Bears.
They're gonna be to know after this week, this game could have been a lot more interesting.
But now, with Lindsay out and Von Allen out, you got the Denver Broncos facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I got the Steelers.
I may have been different before all the injuries in Denver, right? The Steelers look pretty good on defense the other night.
They lets the Kwan Barclay go absolutely nowhere.
I am probably gonna have to put a blueberry pie in my face at the end of this season.
Okay? I have a pie Bet with Loser has to put a blueberry pie in their face.
I made a bet that the Detroit Lions We're gonna make the playoffs this year, Boy.
And then last week against Chicago, I sat there gloating.
I was on slack on the SportsCastr news, gloating about the lead.
Yeah, and then watched it Just disip it ate away.
And Aaron Rodgers look like Aaron Rodgers again last week.
Detroit, Green Bay.
I'm taking Green Bay in that game in Green Bay is gonna smoke him, all right.
Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars shocked the world they did and defeated the Indianapolis Colts.
Can they do it again against Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans? I'm gonna say no.
I'm gonna say the Titans beat him.
The Jaguars had the defense to stop Derrick Henry? Yes.
Now it's a divisional game on the road.
Onley An idiot would take the Jacksonville Jaguars to win this game.
I'm your idiot, Carter.
I'm taking the upset.
I'm taking Jacksonville. Nice.
You know, there's gonna be an upset every week.
Everybody figure out where the upset is.
The Minnesota Vikings, who looked awful last week they did, are gonna be visiting Indianapolis who looked awful last week.
Philip Rivers, 300 yards of nothingness.
Who wins the game? This is a tough one.
Both teams need to get a win here.
Um, I'm gonna say the courts.
I still believe in the calls.
I know, I know Marlon Mack is out, but I still think they have a good, solid team.
I'm taking the calls as well.
The Los Angeles Rams air going up against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are absolutely embarrassed against the Washington football team.
I'm taking the Rams go to and, oh, I'm taking the Rams as well.
The Rams looked a lot better.
I have a feeling the Rams gonna have a good year this year.
I'm a big backer of the Rams having a comeback season.
San Francisco 40 Niners were taking on the New York Jets.
Now the New York Jets are the laughing stock of the NFL.
The San Francisco 40 Niners just signed Mohammed's, the new they did, but they just put Richard Sherman on the R I.
I know that's not good.
They are in trouble.
Can they beat the New York Jets.
Who are you taking? I'm taking the 40 Niners for sure.
After that loss last week, they got a bounce back and below the Niners out.
I mean, blow the Jets out.
They could have been playing a Pop Warner team, and I still would have taken this 40 Niners over the Jets, the Jets, the Jets.
I was saying last night.
I mean, they have to win a game at some point, but I think they will.
Yeah, but they're like my pick to go on 16.
Yeah, I think they'll they'll win two or three games, but I don't know when or or verse.
Who? Teddy Bridgewater, brand new starter for the Carolina Panthers.
After losing a tough game against the Las Vegas Raiders last week, it's got a face.
An upset ****ed off a public tongue lashed Tom Brady after Bruce Arians said, Probably everything that Bill Belichick would have said in private said publicly, do the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come back and improve the one on one against the divisional team or to the Panthers? Shocked the world.
I think the Buccaneers, they're gonna bounce back and win.
I would be shocked if they didn't.
If they don't, they're in big trouble.
I just cannot bet against Tom Brady losing.
I can't bet for Tom Brady losing back to back games.
I got to go with the Buccaneers as well.
They're obviously the better team than Carolina.
I agree with you.
If I'm wrong this game, I'm gonna Wow.
Yeah, Something then sums up in Tampa Bay if they lose again.
All right, I got another upset alert for you here.
The Arizona Cardinals.
They're hosting the Washington football team.
The red hot, the red hot Washington football team who, by the way, could have the best defensive line in the NFL.
Right? Has just realizing that Deron Pain Tim Settle.
Um, Matt, what's his name? Low end is my boy Chase Young from the Ohio State University.
Montes sweat Jonathan Allen are going to be going up against a guy.
I also love Kyler Murray, who I think is gonna be the new sensation of the NFL throwing the ball the Larry Fitzgerald at DeAndre Hopkins.
But that offensive line is horrible in Arizona, and I think this defensive line can't do some things.
You gotta pick an upset.
I'm calling the upset.
The Washington football team will be too.
And Oh, and be in first place in the NFC East after week, too.
Now you're convincing.
May, that's that's actually a good thing.
I'm still gonna pick the Cardinals, but I don't know.
I don't feel confident The Cardinals don't feel confident.
They are. They beat the 40 Niners.
Alright, I got another upset alert for you.
The Kansas City Chiefs.
They're going to see Tyrod Taylor in the Los Angeles Chargers.
Los Angeles Chargers air.
Great. And I'm just kidding.
I'm taking the Kansas City Chiefs.
Yeah, I'm going to do the same.
I was gonna say is we're gonna take the chargers.
Uh, this should be a good game.
The Baltimore Ravens, the 4 25.
I think it's going to be the national game are heading to Houston to take on the Texans.
Gonna be a tight game.
I mean, like, Baltimore is one of those teams, especially the regular season.
Until they prove that they can't win.
I'm gonna take Baltimore.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to take Baltimore too, although the Texan to really do need to win being down on one already, and I would not be shocked if I mean the best thing for the Texans.
Was the Colts losing last week? I mean, I kept them in the division, right? All right.
But you know, if Tennessee goes to two and oh, and and Houston's owing to and and you know it could start causing some problems Look, I wouldn't be surprised if Houston wins, but I gotta go with Baltimore, right? Same.
Alright, let's do the Sunday night game at last.
Monday Night Football.
The New Orleans Saints Michael Thomas is on is injured.
He's out for a few weeks.
I'm sorry, I got to say Drew Brees and Tom Brady, the goats of the National Football League, the goats of their era look like two old goats playing on the weekend.
They both look like old men.
Saints defense is good.
They got a lot of weapons, but they're facing a Raiders team who looks pretty good to under.
Jon Gruden was getting that defense going, and Derek Carr looked OK.
Who you got in this game, The new Orleans Saints or the Las Vegas Raiders in Vegas in Vegas.
Now, this would be a big upset.
I'm gonna take Vegas for they might upset this week.
Would you believe that? I'm gonna take three big upsets this week because I am. I got you.
I got the Raiders going to You know what? Like I'm taking risks.
I know I'm taking risks.
So Joe and I have a thing.
We're gonna We're gonna have a humiliation. Bet.
What's the word? I'm up two games right now s So I have some games to play with going in a week to Because I could lose all my my long shot picks and still maybe down to right.
So, um, it's I wanted to play.
Really? I wanted to pick really aggressively and try to find some upsets.
And because if I can hit on two of those, I mean, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna kill him.
You're gonna get Yeah, I'm gonna make him shave his mustache.
Sunday night football game.
Our New England Patriots taken on the Seattle Seahawks.
Connor, do I have the guts to pick out 1/4? Repeat 1/4 long shot.
Will I bet with my head and take the Seattle Seahawks? Will I bet with my heart and take the New England Patriots? I said I wouldn't give the point Spread.
I'm taking the Patriots every single time.
Who you got? Winning this game? Straight up.
Patriots 24 Seahawks 23 corner.
We're on the same page, baby.
I picked four underdogs going into this week, so I want to just skyrocket.
I just need two of them to hit on.
I think the Patriots give me the best chance.
And I think Washington my kidney a really good chance they could, man.
