I can tell you in silver.
You? Yeah, No, along down.
It's on City Christie.
Alright, we're good.
What's up, everybody? It's Wednesday night.
That means the college game breakers is coming at you.
The college basketball podcast.
Last stream for the breakdown sports.
Make sure you check us out on Twitter at b r k D w n underscore Sports.
We've got you covered everywhere.
Fantasy football, soccer, baseball.
Uh, make sure you come check us out.
As usual. I'm Rex and I'm here with Stephen.
We're gonna talk about some college basketball.
We got a little bit of big news today on what's gonna go on with the season.
But how you doing tonight? I'm good.
I used to love watching this conference, but now it's gonna be a little bit weaker without their best team.
So you know, I'm not gonna watch as much this year.
So up for this episode, we gotta recruits as usual.
Then we'll give you one quick news because it happened today.
Then we'll give you your a C preview coming up for this year.
So let's get right into it with the recruits who we got starting off for us, All right.
We got a 6 ft five shooting guard in Cheon Johnson committed to Tennessee, and we know how much tendency fans like to talk about their crews.
But this one is actually good.
He's a great athlete.
He's he likes finishing at and above the rim, but has the ability to find his teammates for good shots when he drives, Um, he can shoot it from outside right now is not his biggest strength yet.
And, uh, he's gonna be somebody who goes early in the draft when he decides to go to the draft.
Okay, You really think he's gonna get that much time there with this lineup? Or do you think it's gonna take him a little bit to get situated into it? It might be like it might be like two years for him, but he is.
He's up there like you're not gonna find guys who are getting above the rim.
Mazzola's he does, but can also make you respect him at the three point line.
Are we? Isn't he like the 19 3 crew overall? Yeah, he's 19.
Were 19 through 15 today.
Yeah, So what the 19 last episode and probably with the rest of these guys.
We're going to see these guys getting significant minutes.
So I think he's just Mawr stuck between with what's coming back there, especially at his position with Ponds and Jordan James.
So I think if those guys weren't there and and the other guy that we're gonna talk about into, uh, people, that's where I just think he's just given a crappy hand and he might have trouble seeing it.
But you never know what this season.
Maybe some of these guys will opt out just to go to the draft and he'll be able to get more time.
Yeah, yeah, Next up, we have ah, guy.
We've already talked about a little bit.
Haven't really dissected his game yet, But, uh, Makar Maker, who's committed to Howard hey is pretty much like he's pretty much a 7 ft guard at this point.
He is great ball handling for his size.
At 6 11 to 35 Um, he's he's gonna be running up and down the court, and he's going to do everything for that team this year like you're going to see all his strengths and all his weaknesses because he's the best player by far in that conference and on that team.
Yeah, this is probably Howard's top recruit of all time.
Great to see maker coming here.
He might start to trend for other players to follow suit on him.
But maker, I mean, just his versatility in that conference, they should easily I mean, I don't know if the easily when it just because they were one of the worst teams headed into this year and they jumped 50 spots gaining him so he might.
He could easily carry that team to the finals.
But if he takes a little bit of time to adjust, we never know.
Well, they actually play him at point guard with the other guys on this roster.
It's just gonna be interesting to see how makers you utilize.
And next up, we have ah, Dacian Next e don't know if it's day Sean are what is because he spells a d a.
So that kind of throws me a little bit, but he's a He's a big body for a point guard at 65205 and it's What's best for him is that his best strength so far has been his vision and just being a great passer.
Um, his shooting is improving, and if he gets that three point shot down to go with his size against other point guards, he could be dominant.
And he's is going to be interesting to see how he develops in the GE Li compared to how he would have develop in college.
But I think he's a really high end prospect for next year's draft.
Yeah, he decommitted from U C L.
So it's a huge hit for them.
Uh, as you said, he doesn't have that outside shot threat yet.
It has to develop more because he could get to the basket.
He is a smart ball sense.
You should watch him in transition.
If you haven't seen his highlights, he makes him gift of passes.
Um, the outrageous cops he's getting is to magic, so we might have to slow the role there a little bit.
Let's see what he could do, but he's got the good frame.
Has he's not as athletic as you would think.
Someone who is one of their best skills is going to the rim, so maybe he just needs to grow into his body a little bit more since he's 18.
But this G League teams could be nice.
He could end up being my favorite, one of the three who elected to go to the D League straight.
So, um, let's see what Mix does but definitely gonna be harder to get film on him with the D League.
Yep, And next up, we have Jaden Springer, 6 ft 4 £200 combo guard, also committed in Tennessee.
He's a scoring first type guard who's really he does his best scoring down low, trying to drive, but he can score out past the three point line.
His They have them listed as somebody who's a really great rebounder for a guard, which will help just lead the fast break.
It's just like he can pass, but it's not what he's looking to dio like when he drives it because he's going to score.
He's not trying toe drive to draw the defense in and make a pass.
Yeah, once again, with Tennessee, he could be someone that potentially works his way into the starting lineup.
But as its later.
Right now, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes off the bench early.
Um, he's just got to become a stronger pastor and get used to the SEC basketball.
So maybe those non con games will get him really warmed up.
But he's someone that I think could maybe getting taken apart a little bit easier than one point guard would hope so in the SEC.
Yeah, that's kind of why I see him or is like a early guy off the bench, because he is looking to score more.
So let him be that bench offense.
Which is why I think if either those pressure and start it would be Johnson instead of Springer, because Johnson is just a little bit better pass him with the ball in his hands.
So he's gonna be more of that like Team Guy who's not looking to be the first option in the starting lineup because you know he's not going to be on DSO.
Springer has a better chance to be the top scoring option off the bench.
Instead of like the third or fourth scoring option in the starting lineup.
You will be interesting toe check what he ends up doing there, but I gotta play defense down there. Tennessee.
So, watching the highlight reels, you never see much defense.
So we'll have to see what he's like on there once he gets in the floor.
Yeah, and lastly, we have ah, data on Sharp 6 ft 10 £250.
Thio, North Carolina.
I think this is e think this is a great get from North Carolina because he's a really good player right now.
But he's like Onley, an interior guy who doesn't have a refined enough offensive game, that he's going to make all his minutes off rebounding and just like catching dunks, that type of stuff because he doesn't have the postgame yet.
So North Carolina is getting somebody about as high as they can in the rankings that they feel comfortable saying will stay there for two or three years, toe actually develop instead of just trying to be that one and done so.
I think this is a good get for them and he's going to go along with that great freshman class.
It he doesn't have Thio be like the soul.
Um, star freshman.
Yeah, we'll get to this in the a C C preview, but he wouldn't see is huge.
They have Bacot, Sharp and Kessler, who we talked about a few episodes ago where those all those guys were 6, 10 or 7 ft.
So they're gonna be able to rotate those bodies in Sharps.
Probably a I like his athletics is, um so that's where he is a lot to do that these other guys might not be able. Thio.
Yeah, he's definitely He's definitely ah, high energy guy.
But it's gonna be tough in the A C C being that, like, massive high energy guy that doesn't have like like his offensive game isn't really polished at all.
So it's like I feel like that's where you could get exposed in the half court if they're not running up and down.
Yeah, especially if, uh um uh, And it's a perfect segue into the one part of general news that we got is the games look to be starting on November 25th.
They originally slated on November 10th, so only pushing at 10 days back is great, in my opinion, because that means we're having this season.
Um, that just means I believe schools on.
Players can come to cancel area on campus, but can begin, uh, like teen basketball workouts in the full in like 13 to 2 weeks, 13 days to two weeks.
So if they're able to get that and get sharp, one of those guys who needs just to get Roy Williams on him completely get him into game time.
Positions are in practice.
So the only issue with this is the Pac 12 did say that no sports until January 21st so we could potentially see conferences elect out.
There is 32 conferences in Division one, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
But I believe the Pac 12 will probably give us more news, since just this came out not too long ago.
Yeah, I thought I saw something.
I guess it might have been more just with the Pac 12 football, but I think they said they're starting to get closer.
Thio possibly overturning their ruling on the no football to the same way the big tended.
They said they're not there yet, but they're trying to find ways to get closer to doing it so they could do that and opening it up to most sports, then there's still a small chance that they might be able to get back for even if it's not opening day, like maybe sometime, like early to mid December.
Yeah, I think it's, Ah, jump in the football real quick.
And with the Pac 12 potentially doing it, I think they're having major film right now.
They're seeing everyone else get out there and how some are going successfully.
You've only seen one or two teams really get plagued by it so far, so definitely something to monitor.
But you gotta push the counter back.
We're giving out the days till it started at 15 toe all of them that we gave you, and then you'll have the correct date when you go back and listen to our other conference previews were into the top ones.
Now the extra time.
Well, give us some more fun episodes that we can do before the season starts as we're gonna plan to stay on schedule.
But we got the A a C.
Any parting words since you guys air officially out that you want to give the conference? Yeah, Yeah, I'm happy we left the rest of these bums behind so you can get back to the big conference where we belong.
The whole time wasn't expecting anything different.
So let's get into our preseason rankings.
Stephen and I will rattle off the squad's how we think they're going to finish next year.
Then we'll dive into each team and then we'll give you are starting five, our first team for the conference.
Come the end of the year, all these predictions will most likely be right.
So, Stephen, you kick it off this episode.
Give me your rankings.
Alright, so coming in last at 11th since you had a team leave.
So it's not an even number anymore.
Temple at 10 2, Lane at nine, Wichita State at eight S.
South Florida six, Tulsa at five.
Cincinnati at three, Memphis at two and Houston coming in first.
So yes, 11 teams.
That makes Saturdays a little bit worse, because one team will get to sit out and not get to play the Games.
But I'll give you mine real quick.
I got two lane and last followed by Temple e C u Tulsa.
Um, then I think the comp right where Tulsa is an eighth, I think you get to a different tiers.
So I think that's kind of broken up into two with U.
C s, U S F and seventh UCF and six since he and five Wichita State at four.
S, M u. At three.
And I like Memphis to come out on top.
So it's interesting, Stephen to say that you're happy to leave this conference yet.
You guys weren't one of the three teams that tied for the conference championship last year, so I think you guys were already down in, like, fifth or sixth as well.
So I guess the conference wasn't too nice to you last year.
But three true freshmen starting to starting forwards out with Thorne A.
L's or other injuries like that, and our starting point guard, who is now at Wichita State, who decides he could never be healthy for more than four games a year.
So you know, not not sharing a bunch of excuses there, but, uh, from Kenpom, our friend home teams dominated this conference.
This was the fifth overall conference last year where the home teams took it and overall ad, it ranked as the seventh strongest conference last year.
So not too shabby, barely above the 8 10 which we cover last episode just to give you some perspective there.
But, man, where do we want to start at the bottom? Because we got kind of discrepancies here who we have coming in towards the end.
But we both have Temple on 10th.
So how about we start with the House? That's what I was thinking.
Last season they went 14 and 17 overall, six and 12 in the conference.
Um, they're returning almost close to nobody next season, which is one of the biggest reasons why we both have them down towards 10th, Um, and Aaron McKee's first season there.
It didn't go as expected.
Hey, started off a little bit of hot, but then conference play really beat him up.
Um, he only had one significant wind beating Wichita State and Conference.
Other than that, they kind of just beat who they're supposed to be.
This team could not score whatsoever last year, but their defense was solid, so That's a good sign coming in because you can always try to build on the offense.
But when you're losing Clinton Rose, uh, that's a huge loss for them.
And I do not like what they're bringing back whatsoever.
Um, with Temple Mhm.
I think I didn't get hurt because they also lose Alani Moore, who is probably just like their point guard, who is maybe not running the show.
But he was a guy guarding the point guards.
So it's it's more the It's more the guys transferring out for me that heard some of the most.
Even though Josh Period, Louis didn't get a lot of playing time last year as a freshman, his brother was one of the best guys on the team.
Last year is a junior, so I could easily see him developing into a guy just like that.
So losing him now hurts losing Justin Hamilton.
Who is gonna be your who's gonna be your size this year at 6 10 Hertz, and it's gonna be like you're gonna have to rely a lot on Nate, Pierre, Louis, um, and Jake Forester, Plus, like they have one good freshman coming in in Nick Jordan.
He's their best one coming in at these 287th in the country at +68 to 10.
So I don't help with the size a little bit.
But there's not enough there for them to be good this year.
Yeah, Pierre Louis is gonna have to be their top guy because Mormon, um, he's not that great of a score.
Last season when he should have been taking a little bit of a step up, I kind of regressed.
And then you got Strickland and foresters your next to guys.
So just given what they have there, and they don't have much guard depth whatsoever on this roster, So I'm not too sure other than Louis and Strickland.
If one of those two guys goes down or isn't bringing up the ball, what they're potentially going to do, there looks like it's probably gonna be in a true freshman's hands.
Um, they bring him forward freshmen who are all decently.
Um, overall, Nick Jordan is your guy. Look forward.
If you're looking for the freshman on the team to kind of invest into and hope that they can step it up because he might be their size next year.
Yeah, because outside of him, everybody else looks like they could be all right.
But they're all ranked outside the top 400 and they're all kind of like tweeners in between, like, 65 and 67 So they're all gonna be playing for, like, the same type of minutes, like trying to get, like, the same position on the floor, So they're not all going to be able to play.
So it's kind of like you're just crowding up a spot too much that you can't even add depth.
Yeah, so that's that's a little bit more than the temple Owls will get talked about in the media this season.
Um, I think they go under 10 wins.
Uh, Aaron McKie regresses back just because he got he has too much to handle with this season.
Yeah, so let's hit up.
Um, one of the bottom feeders in the conference last year they went 11 and 25 13 over on the conference.
They're returning practically everyone on the roster.
So is this where the bad stays bad, or do they or do they build together and start going in the right direction.
Um, this team just wasn't efficient on offense and fouled extremely too much on defense.
Uh, they got beat up bad and their nonconference schedule by like, um, K c rice Jame, you Coppin State Liberty when you're losing those type of games and then you're going in tow a.
C um, that's where I just don't see any positive signs with this squad.
Tryingto build it up a little bit more.
So I think e c U stays down low, but they find it a little bit just because J.
Don Gardner he's a truth flat outscore.
Got to give it the credit to him because he might be the top scorer in the conference next year for a pretty poor squad.
Yeah, I like him and I like their other two freshmen as like their two through four.
It's kind of like, does Charles Coleman take a step? Maybe he's a true seven footer who was a freshman last year.
I think that could help him out a lot.
What I really like for this team is I like their point guard.
I know he was ranked like to 97 but Noah Farrakhan played at the Patrick School, the the same school as a Dhamma Sanogo who's committed to UConn.
So I watched a little bit more of their games than I would like to admit.
He is a He really is a good point guard who could step in and just be the starting point guard on this team next year.
I think his addition to go with new in Suggs and Gardner as like your top four guys.
I know I haven't been last, but that's just cause I haven't seen him do it yet.
I definitely think they could finish above Temple and maybe even above two lane who I have at nine.
So first going Shut out.
Perry, Thank you for jumping in and watching us.
Uh, so, yeah, you just basically convince yourself to put e c.
U where I had them in ninth is really what you did there.
Well, I'm still a little bit too iffy on him because those guys, like Gardner, has been there for two years.
He has had no success, Really.
Still, those two freshmen I know they were freshmen, but I need to see them beat the teams they're supposed to be before I put them somewhere.
That's not last.
Yeah, I mean Gardner.
He's good for the line from a bigger guy shooting 73%.
He's shooting 54% from the two.
He's not someone who's going to stretch you on the three, and that's what this team is.
Just lacking is that three point threat on the roster, because JJ Miles was the guy who had the most attempts, so you might have to look for him.
If this squad does want to become 1/9 they're really gonna have to extend it.
And he only took 102 attempts last year.
Thought shot 32%.
So those two will need toe step up their outside shot for this team to get much better because they shot 28% as a team last season on Lee.
Eight. Team shot worse from deep.
Yeah, yeah, you can't You can't do that every year and expect to be good.
So that's your one thing to watch for this team.
If, um, that's why I have them finishing closer.
I would say next season, uh, increase a little bit but not too much.
But I think, uh, temple is gonna be worse and that I'm going to get into the team who I have coming in last.
I'm really interested to see what you like about this two lane squad.
Um, just because they're returning 21% of their players, So you know, that's huge for me is if you're returning a lot of ah, lot of not.
And you finished 12 and 18 last season and four and 14 in the conference and came in last last season when you have basically no one the coming back, and you're gonna rely on Gabe Watson to be your top guy.
That's where I have concerns for this team.
Um, Christopher Thompson or Cristante Thompson was their best guy by far last season.
There really wasn't many questions asked.
And if you're watching a lot of Tulane basketball last season, I'm sorry, but I'm really interested to see what you like in this team because I'm just going to keep saying negative things. And I don't want Thio.
Yeah, I mean, well, where K.
Lawson go because it only had him listed as a junior last year.
I think he's let me say, I don't know if you've got a medical.
Then he transferred into two Lane.
He played one year there last year, but only had him listed as a junior last season.
So I thought he would have been a senior this year.
I'm just looking at something that doesn't have him listed.
But I could be wrong because if he is there, then I like him.
Plus all the power five recruits they have transferring in.
Like when you bring.
Yeah, he played four years already, lost two at Memphis ones at Kansas and then at one at Tulane.
Yeah, I wasn't I wasn't sure if you got that medical red shirt at Memphis when he only played 10 games and then he had another year off because of the transfer.
Um, so I mean, if he's not there, that's gonna make it tougher.
But you bring in jail in Forbes from Alabama.
Ryan Murphy from pit um, Otan, Yankovich from Vanderbilt and Kevin Cross from Nebraska.
It's like I don't see how those guys, they're gonna hurt the team like they weren't brought into those power five schools because they're bad.
Um, and then, like Tayshaun Hightower as a junior, last year was putting up 16 points.
I think he'll still be good.
Jordan Walker can run the point, and then you got guys below it who just didn't get a chance to play like no ball Days and Kevin Kevin Jang are can be that front court duo at 696 10.
I guess you see them is an E. C.
U is the same kind of team.
If if I really wanted to go with my gut, I would have put Temple last because I just don't see it for them.
But at the same time there Temple and I've never seen them come in last in their conference.
So it's kind of so it's a little bit more of.
Well, it was definitely mostly just like the K J. Lawson.
Like when you have a guy that's that good, he can carry you toe wins.
But if this thing that I'm reading is clearly wrong on him saying he's a junior when he's out of there, then I'll probably have to switch it and go closer to what you were with the C u nine and two Lane 11.
Yeah, this is where I was saying a little bit ago that I think this conference is kind of split up into two tiers.
Thes bottom three could end anywhere where you think, and then the top eight, not the bottoms, a little bit more solidified in that top eight.
But there's at least four squads have a chance to take this title.
We saw three of them do it last year, So let's get into Mawr, the top tier squads in this conference.
Um, once again, we have a lot of discrepancy here, so this will be a fun one to get through.
Let's jump to Tulsa next.
So one of your co champions last season, 21 10 13 and five in conference.
Um, the reason why I don't like them harping on it, but they're not returning a lot once again with Tulsa last year.
What they really excel.
That was their defense.
Um, they didn't let they let anyone shoot threes on them holding them the 30% that's that was 25th best overall.
Um, they beat who they were supposed to be out of conference.
Uh, played, couldn't pull off Arkansas and let them put up a lot of points.
There's a triple overtime thriller against Colorado State that I remember watching, but, um, Martine's last year was their top guy.
It's it's Replacing him is gonna be a little bit difficult in this roster.
But Horn and Jackson were both solid, so that's where they have what they can.
But I think Brandon or a Shell is going to be their top scorer next year, and I just got to see what he can do Going into his senior season, Um, haven't been to impress with him so far, But let's see what he can do.
Maybe he'll prove me wrong just because he's never been inefficient scorer shooting 50% from two on his career.
Yeah, um, what I like about Tulsa is I think Rochelle is gonna be really good this year.
He was basically he was kind of splitting time with Big Benue because there really similar players, even though it has a brand new listed as a forward and racial listed as a guard.
But they're both in between 66 and 68 and they're both in between 2 22 35 their stats were comparable, like Rachelle was 12 6 and 1.5.
And then a Bond was 13.
5 5 and about an assist a game.
So I think he's just gonna take on a lot more of that scoring and rebounding role that a Bond who had last year.
So he's gonna have a really good season and then Horn being out hurts them for May.
But I think Darion Jackson and Elijah Joyner are gonna be a really solid backcourt.
And it's like, What is Isaiah Hill Dio in his sop****re year to kind of step up? And who was there recruit this year? They had Sean Williams.
He's not a bad player.
I think he's gonna play, not start.
But at 62 is another guard.
It just gives them that depth.
And then it's like, Where is your big man to really be in the middle? And that's where that's where I don't see them having a chance toe another shot at the regular season championship.
But they're gonna be competitive.
Yeah, and it's never hasn't been successful since 2000 and eight.
If you're betting on Frank Haith to go on their 500 for the season.
That's only happened once to him since he was coaching his previously at Miami in Missouri and his worst season.
He went 15 and 17 in, and that was in Tulsa with 2017.
So hey, definitely is able to coach up the guys.
He develops the talents there, so I may be a little too low on them.
But the size is the biggest thing of Bo is gonna have to be their top guy in the middle, and that's just a little bit concerning for me because I think if he gets injured or if he gets in foul trouble, who's coming in for him, And, uh, there are some decent big guys in this conference.
Uh, picking out the center for our first team was maybe a little bit difficult for this one.
But this team could get beat up on the inside, where they're more susceptible last year because they could cover the three.
But covering the two, they didn't do it nearly as efficiently.
Yeah, let's see you.
So after you got anything left to San told, sir Do you wanna move onto the next squad? No, I can move on to the next one.
Alright, so next one, let's jump Thio South Florida next.
Uh, so with South Florida last season, they went 14 and 17 7 and 11 in the conference overall.
South Florida, I think, takes a decent step this season.
They're bringing back 70% of their roster.
Um, they're gonna be very solid on defense.
And it was that's was there strong point of the team last year there, 54th overall.
This team could just not score the ball and good enough piece.
And when they lost, they went streaking.
Um, it was a team that got into bad run a lot of the times.
Um, but bringing back Justin Brown is a huge part.
Them along with David Collins.
And yet Inna those three and and they're not gonna be relying on many freshmen this season.
I just like everything that they're bringing back this year.
Thio Thio finish mid conference right at six.
Nothing too special, but definitely think this squad finishes as a top top 100 team next year in college basketball.
Yeah, I don't hate this team.
That's why? I think they're gonna finish right around the middle of the conference like, ah, lot of like they have really good players on this team.
Like David Collins is good.
Justin Brown's good Michael Dirt is gonna be good for them in the middle as a true seven footer.
And then yet now as a power forward is another just really solid piece who they sorely missed last year due to injury.
But it's, I think, one of like they're bigger piece is gonna be there. Freshmen.
They don't need to rely on them, but they can use them off the bench.
I think Caleb Murphy is gonna be really good for them because, I mean, there's a couple of teams who get recruits that high, but there's not a lot of teams or imagine somebody who's 82nd in the country coming in as a freshman, so I'm just afraid that they're not.
They're never gonna be consistent enough on offense that you need to be worried about them, especially shooting the three.
And when they get to the line there just they're not very good and when you know you can just, like, follow this team and you're basically getting the ball back without giving up, like you're usually not giving up two points on a foul.
It's either nothing or one.
So when you can play that type of game and no, you're going to stay in it, I think they get beat by any team that's more consistent than them offensively, Most most games.
Yeah, that that their defense is gonna be able to hold it in.
And I think in the year with the squad together cause a bunch of the games they lost like they went through a stretch where they lost 55 to 54 56 to 43 62 to 59.
So if they could just get any traction going on offense, and they lost another game to Tulsa later in the season, 56 to 48.
If this team could just start scoring in the high sixties, that's five more winds.
Um, that's where I think South Florida does improve on the record last year.
Maybe going 16 and 14 something like that and and starting to build there, Yeah, that's where I think.
Yet that makes his biggest impact because he put up like 13 points a game as a freshman.
So if you're losing games by lesson double digits, then you bring back a true double digits for that's gonna flip a lot of those games that they lost.
Now, this is where it gets tricky on which team to go to next.
But let's go toe Wichita State.
Um, this is one of the teams that Stephen and I have.
The biggest difference in Esso.
Wichita State last year went 23 8 overall, 11 and seven in conference.
Um, this season, they're bringing back 39% of the roster, So you got a little bit of turn over there? Um, it's hard to think it.
This is why I'm interested to see why you have them finishing so low after a 23 and seven season where they were the sixth best defense overall.
So I'm just gonna turn this one right to you.
All right? I don't like Wichita State in general, but that's just a personal thing.
Um, when you lose your big man and, uh, unique, that's gonna hurt you immediately.
And then you lose the two guys who scored Justus.
Well, it's him if not better, than him in Eric Stevenson and uh J Marius Burton.
They're both transferring, so they're both gone.
You lose, Grant.
Who is your second best freshmen last year? And that's just another piece that hurts.
You think Altri Gilbert's gonna help them as a transfer? But guess what? You're not getting every game from him.
You're getting half the games from him if you're lucky because he doesn't know what staying healthy is.
So that just makes a backcourt that much thinner.
You're relying on somebody who's gonna be a software and somebody who's gonna be a junior in Taison TTN and Dexter Dennis and then their top, their second best center from last year.
Morris, you Dizzy is in the transfer portal.
He's probably not coming back nowhere.
Fernandez, another point guard, is gone. He's at U Mass.
So you're relying on Isaiah Poor Bear Chandler.
That's a terrible name I do.
I don't like that name at all.
But if he's gonna be your big man at 69 and he was averaging less than two points a game last year, and I think the biggest thing is they don't have the good recruits that even these other teams that we already talked about have, like, their two best guys Air juco guys.
And then they have a guy at, like 3 91 and the guy at, like, 4.
So I don't I don't see it.
You're losing too much experience.
You're relying on young guys who are all right.
We don't know if they're good yet, and I mean, you could try to say the defense is gonna be the thing that stabilizes them, but they're going to be like you u S f they do.
They're not gonna be able to score.
And even when their defense gives up less than 60 points a game, they're not scoring within 60 points a game.
So the three Seasons that Wichita State has been in the American so far, they finished with 23 22 25 winds.
I'm just buying maybe into Gregg Marshall and his just coaching ability and whatever the shockers have going for them there, because until I see them really take a big step off and fall to the middle of the conference, I'm still going to think Wichita State finishes comfortably in the top half of the conference just due to everyone that even though they have a decent amount leaving my biggest concern is that the big man, too, Because I think Joseph Yalu there one freshman coming in is going to get a decent amount of trade next season, which might not be the best for him.
But just gonna believe in this roster until I see them take a big step off this year because they're gonna be playing all seniors and juniors to suffer ET en.
TNN could get you more than 16 to 17 points per game, Um, I think that's just gonna keep him there just because it's the Wichita State away.
Yeah, I mean, that's that's gonna be a big step up for him and to expect him to drop seven points.
And then he has to be like the primary ball handler and I'll be assist to I don't see that big a jump coming this year.
Well, let's see.
Maybe, uh, maybe your boy from Yukon will be the one that stays healthy the whole season and changes that and help someplace.
Shooting guard? Nah, that's that.
It just doesn't happen.
I thought it was gonna happen for four years, and it never happened.
So it's not gonna happen now.
All right, let's get to U C F. Next.
Um, I got them coming in seventh, Stevens higher on them in fourth.
So you CF Last season they went 16 and 14 overall, 7 11 in conference.
They're returning back 59% of their officers of decent not losing too much, but not bringing back your biggest production as well.
Um, Dorian Green Junior, probably the best freshmen in the conference last year in the top consideration there is returning, So that's huge for them.
And this team just didn't do much for me.
Uh, they kind of just not walked their way to 16 and 14.
They didn't impress me on any part they didn't like.
I didn't see any huge glaring holes on the other side other than when they went on their six game losing streak in the middle of the season.
But yeah, I'm just not too sure.
I believe they have the new coach coming in.
Or is Johnny Dawkins still there? I want to say he's still there because, yeah, Dawkins is still there.
Yeah, so with Dawkins, you got to give him his props because he's a solid coach there.
But Colin Smith, various Perry and daring Green Junior just don't do too much for me.
And I just see another season right where they finish around 17 and 12 or 16 and 14 in that range.
Yeah, I I like I definitely like their size this year because Colin Smith is gonna be good and then you get you ought, ah, lock.
Who's a transfer from TCU coming in.
He's another 6 11 guy.
And so I mean, that's just good rotation to just bring in and out.
And I like, obviously, like Darren Green.
Cesar de Jesus can be a good point guard for them.
He was at 2.5 assists last year.
I expect that to be close to 45 this year.
Spence Ingram is gone.
And then, uh, Mehan, as like, the small forward I think fits well for them with Dre father backing him up.
And then I don't know, I'm just I'm usually higher on guys who are bringing in good players, and UCF has a couple of them.
I wouldn't call them really high level guys.
But Jameel Reynolds, at 69 I think could be productive for them.
Same thing with Isaiah Adams at 65 I think Adam's will be more of a score.
Reynolds will be more of like a defensive rebounder type, and I think I think there.
I definitely think they're top two or three players are just better than the top two or three players that I've seen from any of the other teams you've talked about so far.
And in this half of the conference, I think just having the top two guys on the floor will win them enough games.
Yeah, there's not I I didn't catch too much of you CF last year, so that's where I just think.
But when I did, I just recognized Darien Green Jr the most.
But Colin Smith? The offense works through the middle here.
Um, let's just see what they could do because they're losing.
Green could nail it from three.
He shot 42% last season, so let's see if teams tried to key on on him because he took 163 3 point attempts and only 71 twos.
So I hope to see those numbers keep going in that direction.
All right, let's get toe Sm you next.
So if S m u last season, they went 19 and 11 overall, but 99 Conference.
They're returning 76% of the roster.
I'm high on this team, Stevens.
Much lower on them than may, uh, so the ponies last year, they could score the ball.
They're fun team to watch because a lot of their games ended in the high eighties or low nineties.
Um, and they're bringing back two of their top three scores last season.
The loss of Isaiah Mike is gonna be noticeable on this team next year, But I really like Kendrick Davis.
If you haven't watched him play point, he's someone who he will get you six or seven assists per game next season.
He's one of that type of point guards, but also can score.
So look for him to have, like, a 14 and seven next season.
And I really like Tyson jolly there as well.
So given those two, uh, this team, I think has the top or the better Big Three than you see efs, Big three.
So maybe we can debate about this one, you know, where the wait.
Where might go? Because I did not see him transfer again.
Isn't he out of eligibility as well, or is he still on the roster? And I just missed it.
No, he went to came for a year Transferred.
He said two years at S M U.
So you should still have one more year left.
So if Mike's back, then this is why I even like this team to come in three Atmore.
But they also getting your ani from Oklahoma State to man that middle.
So that's where I think this team's a complete package and can easily be in straight contention for this title contention.
I have you not watched Kendrick Davis play point? Uh huh.
Uh, I don't like it. I don't know.
Maybe I'm just too focused on teams size.
But when, like, I know what I watched UConn pretty much every game last year.
There were a few teams I didn't want to see.
Like I still didn't want to see Houston.
I still didn't want to see Memphis.
I was fine. CNS emu.
You lost to him.
Yeah. Could not have cared less.
We played a bad game that day.
I know they were not.
They definitely were not better than us.
They're not going to be better than these top teams this year.
Um I mean, jolly you'll be fine, Michael.
I think Mike's probably their best player, and I they bring back everybody, but I don't see anybody taking a step.
So I just think I don't have any Kendrick Davis telling you that right now.
I think he's going to start to get body. There is.
It's gonna be some physical play.
I don't see him holding up.
You don't like the addition of Ani, though in the middle for them? Kind of.
I mean, he's gonna be, what, sop****re or a junior.
Is he a true friend? Junior at Junior? It was a junior at Oklahoma State, noted Oklahoma State Dio Nothing.
What's he gonna do here? The same thing.
He was a big loss for Okay, state in the middle.
Man, I I think you're low on this team with a lineup of Davis at point, maybe McNeil at shooting guard.
Er jolly as you're too.
And you're three for and Hunt as your four and Anne at your five.
I really like that.
Especially with what you have on the bench in charge, You goose and, uh, about animal.
So I think they have a solid five that can definitely hang with the top teams in here.
So maybe off to get a friendly wager on this one somehow.
Alright, after Sm you.
Let's see who you got left to go through Ari up with since he Houston and Memphis.
Uhh! Yeah, way knocked off everyone else.
So both of us are lower on Cincy.
So we both have Memphis or Houston coming in first or second.
So let's go there.
So since the last season, they went 20 and 10 overall, 13 and five in conference.
Um, they're bringing back 44% of the roster there, and I don't know what it is since Mac left and Brandon became the coach.
I'm just slowly starting to lose more faith in this team.
Um, maybe it's still just sticking in. How ugly.
That opening game where I was so hyped the watch Ohio State in Cincinnati play each other, and it was just a rock fight.
the entire time.
Um, this team was solid on defense, out on offense last year, ranked in the top 75 both of them one of the teams that did win the conference last year of the three.
So I just think it's more of what they're losing next season.
And ***berland, Uh, just a signature and a staple.
Their vote is probably going to be the top guy next season with Keith Williams and passed that.
That's where I start to get a little bit more concerned for this squad.
Um, because other than Williams and vote, I'm not really sold on too many players on this roster just yet.
I have them finishing in fifth next season, so I see a decent drop off for these guys.
Thank you. On mute.
What the ****? I thought I'm You did that already.
Um um let's see.
So we got Keith Williams is going to be their leading scorer.
I mean, votes just gonna be He's gonna look like an easy first team all conference guy when he's playing well, It's just like he has.
He doesn't He's never done it consistently enough.
Like he'll put up stretches where he'll get like, four baskets in a row and just grab every rebound.
And then I'll be looks like he's like m I A.
For the next, like, 10 minutes.
So you need to see a more consistent than that.
Um, e think Mika Adams would Or Adams Woods just he didn't have the chance to play behind both ***berland's.
Yeah, and I think I think he starts to get all those minutes and then d r is going to be another good piece in the front court.
Plus, we'll you're missing the best piece in the front court so far.
Next of Oh, yeah, I know.
I know the transfer.
I'm getting to him.
Yes, I'm huge on this guy.
Watched way too many Colgate games last season just to watch him. Yeah.
I mean, Ivanauskas conduce do everything for Colgate like he's He's gonna be a good piece because I'm pretty sure it already said he was immediately eligible.
Same thing as your if David died to Julia.
Julius, he's eligible is well, yeah, he's gonna be another really good backcourt piece for them, like he's just going to step in.
He's gonna put a double digit points a game for them.
So it's just for me.
Cincinnati is like what Wichita State was for you.
I don't see Cincinnati being bad until they're actually bad and the their big men and their top players are just that much better than the top players coming back for Wichita State that I still see them finishing in the hunt for top three seed.
Yeah, maybe I'm a season too early on these guys, but I'm just not the biggest brain and fan that I like Wichita just because they still have, um, Greg there.
So that's where that's just I just think voting Williams is great.
This is gonna be the next top guy, and it's gonna be if the Julius and the rest like if you're high on Adam Woods and he ends up being more than a five point per game player, then I think this team can do it.
I still think they're in the top five of teams in the conference next year.
I just think it's gonna start trending down for Cincy.
I don't like really any of the freshmen they brought in, so that's where I just think Brandon starting to lose.
Ah, hold on what Mac had such a tight hold on in Cincinnati.
E do like a couple of their I like a few of their freshman ITT's.
It's just like I think they're freshmen are good in the same spots where they're already strong.
Tory Easton's probably their top freshmen with Victor Lincoln.
I like both of those guys, but at the same time there it's another power forward in a center.
So where they need help is that guard and their best ones? Mike Saunders.
I know he's like in the top 2.
50 is at 2 32 so I don't think he'll be bad.
It'll just be that he needs to show something early.
Otherwise, they could just sit him and not play him.
Um, but I mean, I don't know.
I got to see Cincinnati lose games that they shouldn't lose before.
I think they're not gonna be in the top three me up.
So let's get into the top two.
Um, I got let's start with Memphis.
I got them coming in first.
You got them in second Memphis last year when 21 10 10 and e even with the Wiseman experience.
Their experiment, Whatever you wanna call it.
Memphis this season's returning 63% of the roster might be still drinking The Penny Hardaway Kool Aid Too hard.
Remember all of the tickets that were coming in on this team? The win the national championship last season and kind of look dead and dusted in the beginning because they went 12 and one.
Then it started to get a little bit of rough.
But that was pennies first season and with conference play, um, precious us you are is gone, which is a huge loss for them.
Um, but I really like what they bring in.
And Landers newly, Um, I think he's gonna be a guy that can maybe get you 20 points per game next season.
I think 15 to 16 comfortably.
And with Boogie Ellis, unless there can noise coming back and the and D.
Jeffries all those three are gonna be rising juniors air sop****res together, bringing in a moose's si se.
I just really like what the squad has.
And I think this is the year where they're gonna increase on that.
21 Wednesday had last season and finished with, like 24.
I mean, I like I like these guys because there they are all they all came in with so much more hype than people you'll see on pretty much any other team in this conference.
Like they have seven Earth.
No, they're gonna have five guys who were ranked in the ESPN Top 100 coming out of high school.
I think Isaiah Stokes will be big for them coming in.
He transferred in from Florida last year and had the city year, so he'll be able to solidify that front court since Kenyans, uh, Ellis and Jeffries are Well, Jefferies's like is also kind of a big man.
But those other two guys air guards and she say coming in and running center is gonna be big for them.
But even like Tyler Harris, I still think he should come off the bench.
I just don't think he has the size to be a capable defender in the starting lineup.
But you still got Alex Lomax.
You got Damien Bow, another rising sop****re, same thing with dangerous rising sop****re I.
They have too much talent to be anything else. Other than good.
But I think I think there's still just ah, half step behind Houston, who's just as talented, and I think they bring in better transfers.
Yeah, my biggest issue with Memphis last season was was their offense.
I like the 2/100 best three in the nation, but their defense was fifth overall.
So that's where I think this defense stage.
Justus solid and the addition of Landers newly is the missing piece that they didn't have last season.
And I like I don't want to spoil it because we're about to get into.
Our first team was all conference, but I think Penny puts it together.
This defense is just too tough, and as long as no lease and they could get one other guy to score with him, probably boogie.
I think this team's got the conference wrapped up.
Yeah, all right, let's get to Houston.
Um, I didn't think it would be too high on this Houston team just because I thought this would probably be the school you dislike the most in the conference.
But last year they went 23 8 overall, 13 and five, the last part of the trio with Cincy in Tulsa to get the regular season title.
Um, they're bringing back 66% of the roster.
Just like Memphis.
Houston was pretty tough on defense is well, but they had offenses.
Well, both of those sides of the ball they ranked in the top 30.
Um, they had a nice went over South Carolina, uh, lost to Memphis late in the season.
So maybe I'm remembering that a little bit too much in their solo meeting.
But, uh, Nate Hiten is leaving.
Correct? Or is he coming back? I believe he's coming back.
Yeah, e have the only guy see that's leaving for them with Cedric Alley, and that's not a loss for them whatsoever.
So this Houston squad did it last year with Grimes Milan Guerrero.
Um, I think they could do it again.
Plus hitting on top of that.
They have the solid five there they've been.
Houston's been a forced down there for a while on their Kelvin Sampson.
So let's hear why you have them coming in first.
Have them coming in first just because there a little bit more position list.
But they can still rebound like hitting as a 65 guys. A great rebounder.
Uh, Fabian White, 67 another good rebounder.
And Jarrow does it all for that team.
Um, Quentin Grimes.
He hasn't really put it together yet.
Being a top 10 recruit coming out of high school.
Um, but I mean, in this conference, he's still gonna be one of the best players in the conference.
Same thing with Mills.
What has me, right? I like Carmen Marc as a freshman.
And even though this guy's their lowest rated freshman, I think he's gonna have the biggest initial impact because carry on. Powell.
Just as an athletic center, I think, steps in as there's 6 10 guide to be to play in the middle, and I think he'll have a good impact.
And if he steps in, he doesn't even need Thio.
Score the ball that well because they have enough scores.
Be the guy who can guard the other five and just like our the other fives get rebounds, Outlet the ball that any of those other four guys who can take the ball up in score, I think they'll be fine.
Yeah, I I still think they they're gonna be fine.
They're gonna have a 21 plus season.
I just see these guys being more of a 21 team next season.
Uh, their offense is definitely more proven than Memphis is is.
So I'm going on a little bit of ledge thinking.
Memphis with just the raw talent is gonna do it.
But Caleb Mills is gonna have to be their top score next year because, like, you said, not too sold on Grimes yet.
And Gerard, who's a great hidden gem if you're not, if you haven't heard of him before, make sure you catch some Houston games next season to watch him ball.
All right, so let's just round off our top 61 last time because I don't think that guys want to hear who's coming in the bottom.
But I got UCF and six since CM five, Wichita State and four sm you at three.
Houston at two in Memphis in one.
All right, I got a South Florida six, Tulsa five, UCF four, Cincinnati three, Memphis to and Houston one.
Yes, So now let's get into our first team.
Are starting five of the conference whatever way you want to go with it this season.
So, um what? Their starting 52 guards to Ford's in the center.
So start us off.
That who? You got a guard.
I got Quentin Grimes at as my lead guard.
I think this is his year.
He puts it together.
He's, um he's gonna He's gonna show why.
He probably should have been in the draft already.
It kind of just like it's because he hasn't had time to stay out of school for more than one year.
He was at Kansas That didn't work out.
He's only played one year in Houston.
I think this second year in Houston is the year where he shows that he's the best guy in the conference.
So staying in the same team, but picking a different guard.
I'm going a Caleb Mills.
I think he's gonna be the score there.
I want to get some good scoring there, and I think I don't think Grimes is the X factor in this team.
I think, uh, Mills is.
That's why I'm gonna take him instead.
You wanna go with your next guard next? Yeah, with next.
I got Kendrick Davis.
Probably be more of my point guard just because, like I said earlier in this show, he's 14 points per game, 5 to 7 assists, just your all around playmaker.
Maybe a little bit of a liability on defense, given he's only 5 11.
But I'm gonna take that offensive output any day of the week.
Yeah, let me just absolutely body this guy on defense and give me David Collins from us.
F as my other guard.
He's a good rebounder as a point or shooting guard with averaging four rebounds a game, put up 14 points a game last year as a junior, he's gonna be and absolutely pest defensively.
He averages about two steals a game, Um, and so he's just he's the all around player he's gonna be driving.
He's gonna be physical around the basket.
He can step out, even though they don't shoot the three that well, he shoots the three better than most on that team.
Um, yes, I I think as a senior he's going to make sure that USF has a chance to be good once, and he's gonna be the guy that shows out more than anybody else on that team.
Yeah, I definitely like what Collins could dio.
I just I just struggle to see us f getting a guy up there unless they could get solidified into that top six.
Next, I'm gonna go with Keith Williams.
Um, think he's going to be the key part for this since he squad next year.
16 points per game.
Perfect for small, for it or guard.
Maybe a little bit of position, less basketball with my next two guys.
But I'm gonna take Keith Williams and his scoring ability, even though I'm a little bit lower on the bear cats.
Yeah, I'll take Isaiah of Mike as my small forward.
Might not be the best if I wanna be a good shooting team.
But he did average over two threes a game last year.
So I'll take that rebounding with that.
Ah, streaky shooting.
Even though I don't like what u s air, not U S. S m.
Has coming back that much.
I think he's gonna be one of the brighter spots for him.
Like Mike was tough to leave him out, but like what? Williams gives me a little bit more and then next I'm gonna go with Landers. Noli.
I think he's him or Kendrick Davis next season is going to be the player of the conference.
Um, Noli is to transfer from VA Tech.
I think he's instant impact.
If he ceiling is 20 points per game next year, averaging bottom would be 15.
So I really like what nobody can dio, especially on their penny.
Yeah, it waas it was gonna be k J.
Lawson, but if he is out of eligibility and that wasn't like a medical hardship except, uh, exemption that he had before if it wasn't a medical redshirt, then let me get Let me just take D.
Jeffries from Memphis because he's got the talent to be a top like not the top, but one of the top three guys in the conference.
It's just he was stuck behind a Chua and then last year, so another year to grow.
He's got the body type to be a good small forward or power forward.
We'll be able to rebound the ball Well, I think I think those guys who are in their second year under Penny are just gonna show how much more having that extra year, I'll help him over any of, like, the new recruits they have coming in.
And to wrap it up at center, Who do you got? What At center? I'm going Thio.
I'm gonna say in Memphis, give me a moose issue.
Say he just comes in.
Dominates for a year, goes the MBA draft.
He's probably going to be a freshman of the year, so I think I'll be and not, um, first team, because he just he does it all for them.
I think he reclassified from 2021 to 2020 and he's still a top 10 recruit like it's just a caliber player that you're not going to see anywhere else in the conference.
So I think it just comes in and dominates.
Yeah, Si se was definitely my second candidate, but I'm gonna stick with vote.
I'm gonna take the good with the bad, just because if he just wants to be the dominant force, he's unstoppable.
He's probably could push to say around a little bit, but I'm gonna take the bad with it as well.
And if there's a week part, I'll take it at center in this conference.
I thought you were gonna take, uh, Ivanauskas if you were going with the big man from Cincinnati.
I wish he's more of a stretch four than anything else.
So I don't know if the Colgate Impact will break 10 to 12 points per game next season.
All the guys I got my roster this time.
I just went with straight scoring ability and hoping that each one can get me more than 15 and just run your team off the floor.
Usually I'm the one who always go through scoring.
But I just wanted to ah, lock up this time.
