Good morning, everybody.
FBC Radio Live It's Wednesday Were Hump day, Mike, Humpty, Humpty Hump day.
Um, it's almost time.
It's almost time to start.
Week two, We choose just around the corner.
We start tomorrow night.
Thursday night football Can't wait for that.
We had some great action last night in both the MBA and the NHL, the Clippers Air going home.
The Islanders are sticking around and the Celtics decided to stop playing good basketball late in the game once again.
So, uh, it was a great night, depending on where you're coming from.
But, you know, we're gonna we're gonna talk all about it.
I'm sure we're gonna throw in our nonsense in between.
So, uh, in order to get to that nonsense, I got to bring in my co host because he is the king of nonsense.
He is unlimited.
When it comes to nonsense.
He is Mike debate, Mike, Uh, actually, on this hump day, my friend got a little breaking News is very, very, very short time ago.
As first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Big 10 is set to announce today that they will be returning to football in October.
Excuse me on August 11th.
We know the Big 10 postponed all the full sports this season that included football because of concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
Obviously, the leagues, presidents and chancellors voted 11 to 3 to postpone Nebraska and Ohio State and I over the only ones that elected to proceed forward.
But a vote to play in the fall season apparently has the 60% needed from the president's, and the chance was to go ahead and move forward.
So at this point, it looks like you'll be getting Big 10 football back in October.
Big news for college football fans and really big news for the world of professional sports, including the NFL.
Because if the's sports were postponed and you know coaches and whatnot could not scout these players, they couldn't, you know, properly showcase.
You have toe one of the impact that that would have had on the draft.
Still, obviously, there's still a lot to go.
This is one big domino falling, but it's a big conference, the Big 10 without any question, and it will be good to see college football back So breaking news this morning here on FBC Radio Live buddy, it's great. No.
Hey, look, I mean for for all things considered the positives coming out of all those that have been more than the negatives.
Obviously, when it comes to testing, we're still just getting things going in the NFL.
So we're going to see how that plays out.
I think you know, this week, the next week, just, you know, with would travel starting to pick up.
You know, it will be interesting to see how how it you know how it all plays out.
But by all accounts, it looks like everyone is following the recommendations wearing face masks, that type of thing.
So you know what I mean? If the precautions, if they're committed thio keeping, uh, you know, doing what's what's necessary to keep these athletes healthy, then you know what good for them and we've seen in hockey we've seen in a basketball, it seems to have worked baseball again.
All things considered, you know, as disastrous as it looked.
The first what two days of baseball returning? Um, it seemed to have settled down quite a bit, so yeah, that's that's some good news.
I mean, hopefully everything again, first and foremost, it's about the health and safety of all the athletes involved.
It's, you know, that the second aspect of it is being able to, um, you know, complete thes season's.
And you know, that's that's the next hope.
But at least we're getting We're getting these sports back.
And look, it isn't just about and And this is the thing, too, because it isn't just about our entertainment.
And you mentioned it like, you know, this is, you know, especially when it comes to college athletics.
There's a lot of kids futures on the line here on and and, you know, I'm obviously, you know, health is a number one priority, and I'm not.
I'm not suggesting that it shouldn't be, but there are other motivations, and I know some people will suggest Oh, this is just the entertain people.
Well, in a way, yes, it is.
I mean, people are pining for the entertainment.
They want to sit down and and look.
You may consider it selfish, but it's a it's a huge part of what life is here is like in this country, is enjoying sports.
If that's your thing? Uh, eso there is an entertainment aspect to it, but, you know, again, there's kid's futures on the line.
I mean, not especially when it comes to football.
These opportunities there so limited and that the shelf life of these athletes are so small that even missing ah, full season especially, I mean, if your junior going into senior year, if your junior, if you're If you're on the cusp of making a name for yourself and you lose an entire season, lose that opportunity, I mean again, you could before going, uh, drastically different life moving forward.
So there are so many domino effects when it comes to toe how this all plays out, and I I think there's it goes beyond just cases.
So yeah, I mean again, I have to see it happen.
And the hope is that it goes well and everyone stays healthy and everything like that.
And that's always the biggest hope is that everything stays well.
Everyone stays healthy.
Protocols were followed, and, you know, ultimately, uh, the the ultimate goal is to keep people safe, like you said.
So we'll keep a sharp eye on that, folks.
But big news, definitely with the Big 10 announcing the October return.
And that's good news for college football fans, especially in that conference where again a lot of heavy hitters within the college football ranks reside in the Big 10.
But you did mention the NBA playoffs last night.
Obviously, a couple of I want to say a couple of surprises, you know, both in both in the Miami Boston game.
Although I did expect Miami to come out and play strong, it looked like the Celtics had a pretty good handle on this.
And unfortunately, just let Miami back in and you can't let a team like that take over and be able Thio come back the way they did.
So credit the heat on this.
But as a Celtics fan, you're definitely stinging this morning about question and credit to the Denver Nuggets, who a lot of people did not believe had a shot, uh, to come back after a 31 deficit against the Clippers.
Clippers were heavily favored in this.
Siri's going in, but the Nuggets again, proving this is why you play games on the court, not on paper.
They're on their way to the conference finals.
Face the Lakers and other tall Test.
But they've been able to come back from Tall Test pretty much all, uh, pretty much all playoffs long.
So this should be a good matchup between the Lakers and the Nuggets for the rights to maybe the NBA Finals.
I was gonna say, maybe the Nuggets are the the MBA's version of the Dallas Stars.
You know, the Dallas going in against Vegas, heavily favored.
Uh, hey, you know, you never know, but going back to the Celtics and the Clippers Clippers, not the Clippers.
Sorry, Mixing mixing conferences here and you're kind of screwed me up a little bit.
But excuse me, it was Ah, it's something we've seen a few times.
This playoff run.
Um, the Celtics had control of that game.
Uh, you know, even the highs and lows of ah playoff game between two really good teams happened.
You know, they're Lee Trunk.
It grew all that stuff, but for the most part they had pretty good control of that game.
Even late after losing that lead, they had opportunities, and they kind of just just missed him.
I mean, you know, you.
You think about the accountant.
Look, I love Kemba Walker, but and he said as much himself that he's just not playing great right now.
And like he has a few moments where he hits a couple of big shots.
But like, you know, him sitting at the, you know, top of the three point, you know, up, up at the top with 30 somewhat seconds left dribbling the ball.
And it's like I just, you know, didn't really get a good feeling that I was gonna get a, you know, be a good shot and it wasn't.
And I feel like they just squandered opportunities down the stretch, and it's like against a team like the Heat.
You can't do that.
I mean, that's a That's a game The Celtics have toe win.
I'm not saying it's, you know the Siri's is over or anything like that.
I mean, the Celtics could go out and win four straight.
You know, I'm not, you know, that's certainly a possibility.
But right now, in the moment, sitting there watching that game and you're just like, man, how do you squander so many opportunities? Open shots, bad shots even.
I mean Look, I'm not knocking Jayson Tatum.
What was was phenomenal in that game, but hey, got a little cold down the stretch and and there was a couple of bad shots that he put up in unfortunately like and and yeah, Kyle brings up a great point.
They lost a double overtime game, but the's a little trends that you don't want to see happen.
And eventually they're going to come back toe Baekje against the heat.
You know, against the team in the West if they happen to get to the final.
So, um yeah, that that was It was just it was discouraged.
Not, Yeah, I I don't wanna put too much negative on it, because again, I'm not.
It's not like I'm down on this team.
It's just one of those things where it's like, Man, this is This is this loss, Really, It's going to stick with you, especially if they don't win the Siri's.
If they don't win the Siri's.
This is going to be one that I think a lot of people are gonna look at and say that set the tone for the entire Siri's.
Now it is very possible and this team has the wherewithal and the talent to be able to do it for the Celtics to rattle off.
Like you said, either four straight wins or three out of their next four, whatever.
To be able to take control and take a stranglehold on the Siri's.
I still fully believe they could do that.
But again, down the stretch, you need your players to come up big now.
Campus had a pretty rough Siri's this time around, but 23.
2 seconds left in overtime, he puts it in a shot that puts the Celtics up by one.
Is that the catalyst to get him back on track for the Celts? Marcus Smart contributed 26.
Walker and Jalen Brown each You know Jalen Brown had 17.
But you look at how those back those baskets came and what happened down the stretch.
And if you're a Heat fan, you know, very, very similar to the way we like the 28 to 3.
I think that shot of Bam out of Bo's hand blocking Tatum probably going to be the name of Ah lot or the abbot star of a lot of heat fans out on Twitter, you can already see like that's a That's a hell of a player.
Oh, yeah, it's a hell of a block.
Yeah, Although, although I will say that, um, as as is the case with with a lot of things people have just taken and run away, I've I've literally seen this and I You may have seen it too, So I'm not gonna mention names, but someone literally compared this to Malcolm Butler's interception to the Super Bowl.
And I about was like, Whoa, come on, like Come on, let's just enjoy like, this is the problem with a lot of in in, you know, this comes to social media and everyone having a platform to stand on the other.
It's like, Why can't we just enjoy things as they happen? Why does everything have to be, uh, the greatest, greatest greatest of everything? Or like, Why do we have to make these absurd comparisons? Thio plays that clearly have? No, I mean, look, you're talking about ah, interception in the closing seconds of a Super Bowl versus a really amazing block in a game one of in Eastern Conference final.
Like that, it's great.
It's an incredible play, like let's appreciate it without attaching some sort of ridiculous standard to it.
It zits so silly.
And this this is coming from professionals like, well, quote unquote professional journalist like, you know? Yeah, well, again, it's just zits just so silly.
And it just like kind of it takes away from the moment because yeah, of course I'm a Celtics fan, but I'm sitting here thinking like, Wow, I mean, that that was just an incredible blow.
I mean, Tatum, that that ball was going in.
Tatum, your got around the defense.
I mean, he had a clear path and that there's nothing he could have done.
I mean, it was just an incredibly incredible defensive play, but like, let's let's let's calm down with it being like on par with, like, man stepping on the moon, you know, like, let's calm down, it's true.
I mean, and you ask the question.
You answer the question in your own breath.
Basically, it's because, thanks to social media, we live in the hot Take Hotel.
That's exactly what professional sports sports.
God, that's what you're thinking.
Thio Smackdown! Hotel.
But bottom line, folks.
That's what comes all of a sudden You live in the moment that moment has to become the greatest thing that we've ever seen.
Um, it's like the old joke, somebody that I was speaking to the other day, a friend of mine said, You know, I'm so tired of the body in, in effect, on professional sports And I was like, What do you mean? Bobby Heenan effect? He's like, Go back and listen to the old WrestleMania is a body heat and commentating with gorilla Monsoon.
Hear him say how many times every WrestleMania that he broadcasts.
This is the greatest WrestleMania I've ever seen.
He's absolutely right.
Just knew he was gonna do that.
The new body was a man wisdom beyond his years.
He knew that Marty Geneti was gonna cowardly thrust himself through the window to get away from Shawn Michaels, which, by the way, but I don't know if you've seen he's backing off statements.
Oh, it's already killed someone.
Yes, it was a part of a wrestling angle.
Apparently so he's still wrestling.
You'll see that.
Yeah, we'll try that you could fertilize the lawn.
But in any case, folks Yeah, I live in the moment.
Enjoy the moment If you're a heat fan, Yeah, you're definitely going to be enjoying that.
And and I am definitely not taking anything away from that place was a tremendous defensive play, a great block by band, but at the same time, Yeah, pump the brakes a little bit.
You're comparing it to Malcolm Butler's interception that won a Super Bowl.
Little different steaks.
The stakes in the moment have to count for something.
So yeah, pump, pump the brakes.
You just said steak and my my stomach gurgled.
I don't know if that was a coincidence or just, uh, incredible timing, but it is what it is, but yeah, it's right.
Everyone, everyone come over.
That's right. Social distancing be ****ed.
And like I said, I mean things.
This is all about my my bigger picture problem with with just, you know, the absurd nature of how people react Thio sports.
Now, um, it just it's a little too overtopped, but, you know Hey, look, one game, Celtics down one. Nothing.
I think there's obviously there's a lot of positives, Marcus.
Smart is e not if you're a Celtics fan, Um, you know, they're gonna have a chance to get back in this game.
The Clippers, however, are they're done.
They're going home.
And this is, uh, look, I I don't want to say too many bad things about Doc Rivers because, you know, hey, it's the only MBA championship I've been alive to see for the Celtics.
Was him behind the bench.
Um, but how has he kind of stuck around as long as he has? Because, you know, outside of that, there's there's ah, there's a lot of failure that surround his his coaching, um, career.
And again, I'm not trying toe say he's a bad coach.
I'm just saying, I think, and and and massive hindsight, I think we're seeing a guy that you know somehow has managed Thio ride the wave of those finals appearances with the Celtics 10 years ago.
And, you know, other than that, I mean, really, what has he done? Yeah, I think you're You've definitely got a point.
And I know a lot of people are making that point today about maybe Is Doc getting a free pass and a lot of ways, or is he kind of skating under some of the failures that his team has had simply because he seems to be a players coach? And look, there is no denying that Doc Rivers is definitely a players coach.
The players who play for him absolutely loved him, and they'll do anything they can to make this work.
I think virtue lives in the middle.
I think Doc is a phenomenal coach.
I think he gets a lot out of his players.
But I also think there's probably a little bit of extra polish that's put on him, probably because of some of the respect that his team that his, his teams and his players have for him.
So in the off season, the Clippers, they're going to have to really take a look at this roster.
Look at the guys they have around them, make sure that they're filling this roster with role players, guys that can get the job done coming off the bench, be able to take pressure off of stars and be able to build a team that can contend.
Ah, lot of what happened this year is probably going to be blamed on co vid with early exits from a lot of teams, whether it be in the N B.
A or the NHL, even Major League Baseball.
I think because there was interruption in all of those sports or delays in the beginning of all of those sports, I think it did throw a little bit of a wrench into a lot of those plans.
So I'm not quite ready to right doc off in terms of his ability to lead the Clippers to prominence or even get them to a finals or maybe even a championship.
I think there's still on opportunity there, but you can't deny that.
The Clippers loaded up this year to try to win a ah, an NBA championship, and now they're going home in the semis.
And that's definitely not the plan.
These guys wanted to go at least to the conference finals, most likely to the finals and if they had to go down, that's probably the Onley way that they would have accepted.
Defeat is going down in the N B. A finals.
Going down in the conference semis is not part of the plan in Los Angeles.
They've got some retooling to do, and they've got some, uh, some work to do in the off season.
But, you know, credit the Nuggets, too.
I mean, people were just looking at the Clippers.
Oh, no, I'm not saying you, but I see a lot of it on social media, especially last night that the Clippers choked.
They just choke this.
They choked it away.
31 Siri's leave.
Maybe you could make that argument, but credit the Denver Nuggets for not giving up, realizing that each game was a fresh opportunity to continue on to do what they needed to do.
And they went out there and they took it.
So they deserve to be there.
Looking forward to this Nuggets, Lakers, Siri's.
I think it's gonna be a good one, I think.
It's air Better team than a lot of people are giving them credit for.
I still think the Lakers have areas where they could be exploited, and if that's the case, this could be an interesting season.
And I like what this could be.
An interesting end.
Thio the conference season in the West, and I like what you said about them possibly being the Dallas stars just kind of creeping up on everybody, nobody realizing just how good this team really is.
And then before you know it, you wake up and you realize they're in the final.
So this could be it could be something fun.
And look, I think we said it yesterday, and I still believe this.
I, something tells me, were just destined for a Lakers Celtics final.
It just you can't have one without the other eso.
If the Nuggets beat the if the Nuggets beat the Lakers, somehow, then I feel like the Heat will beat the Celtics.
And I don't know, obviously, that has that.
That that makes no sense other than what's going on in my mind.
But that's that's just how I feel, uh, mentioning the Stars.
They're still waiting for their opponent, Obviously.
Game five Almost Game six game sixes.
Coming up tomorrow, Game five between the Lightning and the Islanders went to double overtime, and I will admit I fell asleep before the end of it.
I was trying so hard to stay awake.
It wasn't because the game was boring.
It was just because I had been up all day and double overtime is kind of pushing the limits of my ability to stay awake, and I missed it.
But I'm glad the Islanders were able to stay the Islanders.
If not, I will have gone Oh into this conference final in terms of my picks and going back to the previous round.
It would be a one in five run for me lately, so that's that's not so good.
But look, Islanders, they're a good team.
They have a, you know, monumental task.
You know, winning three straight against the Lightning.
It took double overtime for them to win this game.
I don't think it's gonna ultimately happen.
I do think that the Lightning are going to end up winning this Siri's but, um, songs.
The Islanders can keep pushing it.
Maybe I'll switch switch my feelings, you know? Well, you know, again, it's just it's one of those types of things where teams have to believe that one game is a fresh opportunity.
You don't look at the big picture.
You don't look at all we know we have to win this.
When we have to win that one, it's just let's we never surrender and let's see what we never say die.
You got the heart of a hero, all right? Just saying nicely.
But no, in all, in all actuality, it's just it's going to be a tough task for the Islanders.
But I knew they had a little bit of grit left in, and I expected them to come out and and be, You know, the team They were, you know, yesterday they did need, you know, a lot of time to be able to do it.
So we'll see if this woke the lightening up a little bit and then they come back and realize we can't keep giving these guys life.
We have to go take care of this while we still can.
I think that's the likely outcome.
But, you know, never say die so that the Islanders, they could have just rolled over and said and said they were done, but they came out and they got the victory and they're continuing on in the serious.
Well, we're going Thio, take a quick break here, and when we come back, we're gonna talk some NFL, uh, some news around the league, and, uh, stuff of that nature so stay tuned.
We will be right back.
626310 Tripoli to If you want to give us a call, give us text.
Let us know you're listening to the greatest episode at FBC Radio of all time.
There's no denying it.
Tomorrow will be the greatest is Well, so did you see? Now, uh, we're we'll get a little off track here, but did you see that? Not on.
Lee is one of the stars of the Tiger King do***entary Carole Baskin Uh, in dancing with the stars.
But did you see she's dancing the eye of the Tiger? I mean, yeah, hear about that.
Admittedly, I don't watch the show.
In the past, I've watched I'm not going to deny it.
But this season yeah, folks, I have I have footage of Of Mike.
Uh, remember seeing from Ted that Tiffany song e think we're alone now? Just just saying I may or may not have footage of Mike.
It was given to me by a e Never watched e I am shocked.
You haven't turned that into a drama, I now I will now I will because yeah, that's an episode I had.
That's honestly an episode that I had not seen in a while.
So you know. Thank you, Mike.
Because now, now that will happen.
Hey, e getting back onto our original off track point as opposed to our, uh, my mouth.
No, all kidding aside, but no, I did hear that she is dancing. Teoh.
Is there anything mawr or indicative of 2020 than Carole Baskin? A person that is widely speculated to have? Well, here's the thing.
I also dancing with the stars and then traveling on the grave.
E heard I also saw 2020.
I also saw that the family of her disappeared husband eyes buying ad time during to say I mean, it's just absurd.
I mean, that the whole situation is crazy.
Like, honestly, I should not that far from where I am, I'm I'm getting the urge to go. I wanna go.
I wanna go see this in the flesh.
You know, I wanna go see for myself this whole environment.
But I saw that and it was just actually, actually, I think Ross Jackson retweeted that I saw I saw it originally or he had said something about either tiger.
So, um, I do think it would have been funny or even better if she exotic originals.
You know, like I I saw a tiger or the one the song about her and her killing her husband.
That would be really good.
That would be rich, Let me tell you.
Yeah, that would be That would be Well, you know, that's if she makes it through.
I mean, these are like multiple round shows that, you know, she could possibly end up doing something and, you know, going forward.
So who knows? Maybe that might be in the pipeline.
Nothing would shock me here in 2020. Yeah.
Kyle says in the chat room.
Did she kill it on dancing with the stars? Well done, Kyle.
Yeah, that's good.
Good, good. Um, but yeah.
So I had to bring that up, because again, I feel like that.
I was always, always right on top of the Tiger King stuff, you know, when it first came out and then it just kind of died.
It's It's just so utterly ridiculous.
Everything about everything in that story, every angle, every little side plot every little everything about that entire story and everything that's come from it.
It's just ridiculous to me.
There's nothing normal about it, and it's just it.
It it fascinates me.
But anyways, let's, uh, let's let's get to the NFL.
Because again, it's Wednesday.
So we're jumping over that, uh, that that line from last week.
Now, now we're until we to, you know, we're talking previews.
Well, looking ahead to match ups, and, uh, we're getting weekly awards.
Lamar Jackson, by the way, Potentially the best quarterback in the NFL.
Maybe Russell Wilson.
Definitely not patch problems.
Maybe not. We'll see. Johnson.
John John's not here to argue with May.
So we wanted to make sure.
I will never I will never come down from this hill.
But anyway, Mark Jackson is your 2020 Offensive player of the week.
No surprise. I mean, he was fantastic.
Um, bad news for the states.
Originally thought to be a manageable injury.
Looks like Michael Thomas might miss a few weeks with a high ankle injury.
I mean potentially Sam Donald is the best quarterback in the league.
Yeah, well, potentially.
Patrick Mahomes is to, you know, you could say that about anyone.
Just about anyone? Uh, not definitely not.
Well, who could you not say that about, Uh, let me go through.
Uh, well, I don't know.
I don't feel like Derek Carr was Derek Carr.
Just because if parents is listening, he'll he'll appreciate that, But yeah.
Anyways, Michael Thomas, he got injured late night.
When against the Bucks, and it looks like he might be He might be out for a few weeks.
So that's that's gonna be a tough loss for the Saints.
Who again? I said, uh, we'll agree to disagree.
Kyle, we'll have you on on on an episode next week where we can, uh well, I'll have more ammunition and we'll go.
We'll go head to head.
Well, maybe this will be our first embrace.
Where? Mike Debate Moderates Debate Saying too many debate, debate, debate, debate, debate, Debate.
Well, that's good.
Debate, debate, debate, debate.
I can't stop with debate.
All actuality, I would be I would definitely be, uh would be open to doing this.
I'll definitely I will moderate.
It's It's the season for two presidential election.
That's right. You could be our Joe Rogan.
And I think our debate here FBC Radio Live will be more entertaining, more scintillating folks than what you'll see on Network television, farm or intelligent to E.
Oh, I'm just saying, In any case, yeah, I think you might be onto something there, but yeah, with all getting back to Thomas, definitely a huge below to the New Orleans Saints.
Um, they're they're still toying around with the idea of placing him on injured reserve folks, I don't believe it has been confirmed.
Of course, my man Ross Jackson will be the best person to go to.
He is the guru on all things when it comes Thio New Orleans.
And I know this hit him hard last night.
It definitely was a wrench in the plans of the New Orleans Saints.
But the thing about it that makes it so difficulties, because Thomas had become somewhat of an iron man in this offense, you know, he was one game due to injury in his career.
That was as a rookie in 2016 coming off of the season in which he set the NFL record with 149 catches for 1725 yards.
Uh, this is you know, this is something that that is going to be difficult for them to overcome.
So according to the most recent reports I've seen, Thomas is still convinced that he can come back and less time than three weeks.
So we'll see what happens for New Orleans, but they're definitely going to feel that void without any question.
Uh, this was one of the top performers, and they're gonna have to get inventive over the course of the next.
You know, few, a few weeks.
I expect Thio sie Emmanuel Sanders take a much more vital world.
You know, a bit more.
You know of a target for Drew Brees.
And this is a good opportunity for some of the other wide receivers that they have on the depth chart.
Guys like Drake, Juan Smith, Deontay Harris, Bennie Fowler.
They're gonna have to come up and step up and play that role in order from New Orleans to stay afloat.
So big loss for them.
But they do have a pretty deep core and a lot of weapons around breeze.
So we'll see if there's any team that can withstand this type of a hit.
It's probably New Orleans.
They're one of the better equipped teams to do it.
Well, I just hope the quarterback is equipped to do it, because I have my doubts.
And I know Kyle will least agree on that.
I know we won't agree on the whole Patrick Mahomes thing, but yeah, yeah, Taysom Hill.
Okay, um, if if he can somehow turn catches and and trick plays into pass plays and okay, maybe he could be a quarterback, but we'll say, but yeah, I do have my doubts about Drew Brees.
Especially now, without my comments.
You're putting a lot on Emmanuel Sanders putting a lot on these other guys, too.
I mean, we saw that we talked about yesterday.
I mean, he doesn't complete a lot of passes.
And the reason why they're so dangerous in those in that in that intermediary is you have Michael Thomas there, and he runs a lot of those intermediate intermediate routes.
This isn't my one of those words.
I'm just I'm just having a lack of caffeine day, folks.
So, um, so I I do think there is a You know, there is definitely issue here or could be a potential issue.
And it'll be interesting to see how it plays out, because despite picking on for the win again, Drew Brees wasn't really anything special.
Um, you know, very Ah, Peyton Manning.
Final season vibes.
Just, you know, his presence is there, and he makes plays.
But I never felt like Drew Brees was the dangerous Drew Brees or anything even close to that.
He just He's a guy, in my opinion right now, So maybe that's harsh.
Maybe that's maybe that's a little too hard, but, you know, necessarily say that Drew is just another guy.
Yeah, that that was That was a little harsh, but I think Peyton's last season, I think, is a little bit.
I still need to see more of a sample size from Drew before I'm able to go like that.
Quite, you know, fall off.
But yeah, there's no question about it.
I and he looked shaky at times.
You heard Sean Payton say it after the game on Sunday, or Drew Brees himself say it on Sunday.
after the game that a lot of, um, you know, a lot of improvement needs to be made in order for them to be able Thio to make the plays and in order for them to be able to do what they want to do on offense on a consistent basis.
So they have, you know, an extra day this week, I guess, if you wanna, you know, se Teoh, get ready.
They're not playing Sunday game.
They're playing the Monday nighter coming up against the Las Vegas Raiders, so this will be an opportunity for them.
Thio regroup, See what they have.
We definitely know that Thomas will not be in that game.
He has been ruled out for Monday night's contest against the Raiders.
So, yeah, we'll see what what New Orleans has up their sleeve.
I love how Kyle and I disagree so greatly.
On one topic that agrees so strongly on this one, Kyle says in the chat room.
Breeze has five years of ending seasons poorly.
I don't think we need all that much more ammunition, and I agree.
I agree because, you know, and this is a point of been hammering home heading leading into this season for a while.
I think he benefited greatly from missing those five games last year and we saw in 2018 the the poor played down the stretch.
The poor play in the playoffs and in large chunks of time.
You know, of course, there were times where he made some nice plays and everything like that.
I mean, he's he is an all time great so that he is capable of doing that.
But there's just far too much.
Um, yeah, it's just far too much over the last few years for me to think.
And and and on top of that, the whole idea that he's seriously been considering retirement.
That tells me that not not that he's not preparing, but you know, in a way, you mentally start to distract yourself.
You know, once you start putting those thoughts of retirement and and again, I I said last year I thought he was going to retire this year.
So, um but But yeah, so again, I mean, it's I think it's gonna be tough for New Orleans.
I think it's gonna be ah, lot tougher than, uh, I think some might expect for him to be out, especially if he's out more than two or three weeks.
I mean, two or three weeks, you could you could maybe get by there.
Um, you have that big win over the Bucks to start the season.
That's a good starting point.
But if he's gone for six weeks, um, you know, that's that's gonna be tough.
And I do think that this week was a bit of fool scold for those who follow the Saints, because I think the Saints did do a lot of good things, but I I think the the outcome of the way this game played out is being portrayed in in a very positive way towards the Saints, and it probably shouldn't be as much, you know, like they played a perfect game by any means.
But I think outside I think they're looking Oh, wow, The Saints air this great team.
The Bucks aren't, but I really don't.
I think it's e think I think it was just a week one.
I think you were gonna look back at this and six weeks in back home and the Saints probably weren't as good as they look so well.
I think a lot of it is gonna be determined on how the perception of the Saints will be determined by the amount of mistakes that the Buccaneers made that the Saints were able to capitalize on.
You know that can really make a team look a lot better in a lot of ways, and I think to say this, but in a lot of ways that benefited the New England Patriots last year when they started the season undefeated and they were going into that Baltimore Ravens game where both teams were riding that undefeated wave and it was just it was a riel opportunity for both teams to really step up and do what they needed to do.
I think in a lot of ways there were teams that we're making a lot of a lot of mistakes around them and made the Patriots maybe look a little bit more formidable than they were last year.
So I'm not comparing the two teams.
I'm just saying that, um, that really helps to enhance your public.
You know, persona when the your opponent is making a ton of mistakes and you're able to capitalize on it takes a good team to do it.
But maybe the talent level still needs to be proven in New Orleans.
And I think I think you're right on that.
I think we'll see what this team is made of in the next coming weeks.
Especially knowing that a guy like Michael Thomas is gonna be absent.
Are they deep enough to be able to withstand that type of a loss? They've got a lot of talented guys on that team, but they're going to need to step it up.
Yeah, and and like I said, I mean, I just I don't know if true is capable of shouldering that load.
And look, I I Sorry, Ross.
Sorry, Dillon, if you're listening, I hope you are because we love when you listen.
But, you know, I just you know, again, it's just it's just how I feel about your breeze.
I mean, uh, it comes across as being very, uh I guess it seems like anti Drew Brees, and it's not I mean, I enjoyed his career.
I enjoy watching him play.
I just think again, I don't understand.
This'll eight career anointment, I guess the pageantry that goes along with, like, these little passing records that he breaks, you know, it just predictable pageantry.
You know, like it's kind of like, OK, guys like, you know, and part of it.
Look, it's coming from, you know, us watching Tom Brady for the last 20 years, and he's kind of the opposite of that, You know what I mean? You know, he breaks a record, and he's got his fingers up.
Okay, Go for one or go for two.
You know what I mean, Drew.
It's like, you know, you gotta take a lap around, uh, stadium with his helmet off, waving to the crowd because he broke a record that's gonna get broken 16 times before the time he gets he retires between him and Tom Brady.
You know what I mean? It's just to me.
I think that's part of it.
All of a sudden, you're thinking like, Okay, what are we doing here? Why? Why are we celebrating these, like little things? You know what I mean.
So, uh, I don't know.
Okay, I'm coming across is a little better.
Maybe not bitter, but a little whatever.
I mean, there's an element to that, and I think everybody you know, that's that follows the Northern has following the Patriots and followed the career of Tom Brady closely has seen that has seen, you know, pageantry and, ah, lot made out of records that have been broken.
But when Brady does it, it's sort of Oh, well, you know Yeah.
Okay, yeah, he did it well, because, Well, because he doesn't he doesn't make He doesn't make a big deal out of it and he couldn't care less like And I think that's part of it and and look, Kyle, Kyle says.
And right now we're talking strictly on the football field.
I mean, there's obviously certainly things you could dislike about.
Jewelry is off the football field.
Despite the, you know, the image that that comes across and in the public eye, there's There's certainly many things out there that should rub you the wrong way of things that he's involved with or he's spoken on or whatnot.
Um, but we're talking strictly on the football field, and again it just comes down to, like, you know, right, he's e don't know.
Where is he going to ultimately rank all time? I mean, obviously we've heard a lot over the last.
What 12 18 months or so.
Now, look, I I don't think he's top 10.
Um, you know, I'd have to maybe do a deeper dive into some of the you know, some of his contemporaries to kind of put him as, ah, you know, in a in appropriate position, appropriate rank.
But, you know, I want to put him in my top 10 right now.
No, I I don't I don't foresee that ever becoming Yeah.
I mean, if I think I've said this before, if he's going to crack my top 10 and be on the lower echelon of that, Um but, you know, again, I think it's there's there's a lot of subjectivity when it comes to rankings and and things of that nature.
I've seen people go assed faras to say that he belongs in the top three.
I've got no seen people put him up at number one, which top? I'll be the first to admit that, but you know, I mean, say whether or not he belongs in the top 10 I think that's a legitimate argument that a lot of people can't have.
You look at the at the records that he has amassed throughout his career, and it's it's impressive.
Um, you know, I mean, you have to get just do for that.
But e I I I think I think that's that's where we differ.
Maybe a little bit because impressive shirt, I mean, but how impressive.
I mean, we're talking about the ac***ulation of passing yards on a bunch of losing teams and, you know, ah, large number of interceptions and touchdowns, good for him.
Touchdowns in passing yards.
But you know, what good is that? If you're not necessarily winning, you know what I mean? So, like, how How impressive is that? And other than that, it's like, Okay, you know, completion percentage.
You know, you complete 75% of your passes again.
What what good does that do you if you're not winning? And I think that that's where my I guess that's where I pause when it when it comes to talking about, um, greatness and everything like that.
I mean, look, it's like you said.
It's also all subjective.
Yeah, Kyle brings up a great point.
Sam Bradford completed 72% of his passes.
You know what I mean? So it's like it's not Z, you know, they're impressive.
Yes, it's impressive that he can consistently do it.
Um, but outside of that, I I don't see what throwing 5000 yards in the seven and nine season does for you.
It just tells me that you're you're probably down.
Um, you know, there's times where he's thrown what 22 he stone 22 interceptions in a season, Right? Or am I just making that up? I know it's a high number.
Yeah, so I mean and so, like, look, when we talk about the greatest greatest like, yeah, exactly how Maney losing seasons does he have, I obviously that that's not all in his shoulders.
We talk about this all the time.
When it comes to quarterback winds.
I do think that there are legitimate stat.
I think you know, people want to sit there and delegitimize them because for whatever reason, they hate Tom Brady.
So that Z you know Hey, you got to delegitimize you know a lot of his things, but like, you know, the the quarterback is the most important positions So they have a huge hand and winning and losing on both sides of the ball.
You say, Oh, they don't play defense.
Well, you know, throwing 22 interceptions.
Put your defense in a very bad position and it makes your defense worse.
Because guess what? The odds say you just can't keep up with those extra possessions.
It's It's kind of what happened in Tampa and Jamis Winston last year.
So, um so again, 5000 yards? Yes, it's impressive in a vacuum, but how impressive is it when you're doing it on a team that just doesn't win? How much is that due to the fact that you're playing from behind because you're not winning and you're not playing good enough football to wind consistently? So that's that's where I that's where I kind of you know, if you you know if you're going to do a deep dive into the discussion, that's where I would go for that.
So I think it's a valid point.
I mean, you know, again, Like I said, I think there's a lot of subjectivity when it comes to that and the level of of impressive nous.
So again, I think a lot has been made out of it.
Maybe a little bit too much has been made out of it.
But when you're able to amass that type of statistical, you know, prowess, even if it's based primarily off of longevity, longevity in and of itself, especially in this league, it's something that deserves its its prey.
So whether or not it's top 10 worthy, I think you definitely have a valid argument there.
But, you know, and I think there are varying degrees.
They're saying you're impressed by something in orderto make it valid without making it over the top.
And I think Drew Brees is a good case study for that, because I think there's, ah lot of people that make too much of it.
I think there's a lot of people that maybe, you know, make you know, make too little of it.
Maybe there's some common ground that can be found there, so I'm really liking this possibility.
Is this type of, you know, debate going forward? Although even if it's you and Kyle, you guys were pretty much sympathetic.
Yeah, we were just gonna rattle off.
Are you? Well, because, Kyle Kyle Well, like I said.
Kyle and I could talk about Patrick Mahomes.
That'll be our embrace debate segment, cause we certainly disagree on a lot of way.
Certainly disagree on a lot of those aspects, but one skin Kyle brings up a great point.
Nine seasons of 15 plus interceptions.
Tom Brady has never thrown more than 14 in his career, and the last time he did that 2005 15 years ago.
So the same number of years that Drew Brees those interceptions is how long ago Tom Brady threw 14 which was fewer than you know 15.
Which which is absurd in the six losing seasons.
I'm sorry again.
What what is What is 5000 yards mean when you're throwing 15 interceptions? Basically, just says, you're probably getting more opportunities on offense.
You know what I mean? Because your defense is exhausted.
You get scored on a lot and you know, so we'll say.
We'll say, uM, yeah, I was going to say, Well, we'll have to bring Rawson for, uh for for that Drew Brees debate.
Well, that that should be fun, that we may be like a cross cross promo show, so we got to get off the air here.
We we dio we're gonna cover a lot of Thursday night football.
We're gonna really dive in a week to tomorrow.
It's Thursday, so obviously we're gonna have games to talk about.
But I was doing this and I didn't I didn't let you know, and I'm going to continue to do this, but do you want to hear the tally for this? And I'm not gonna tell you the details.
I'm just going to say yes or no.
You want to hear the tally? Okay, so I would like to hear the tally in any case, two times in all actuality, three times surprisingly sharp.
I only got once in this episode, but I've started to keep track of your catchphrases.
Um, again, I want I want to know how many times there said throughout the episode, because I think that be fun. And I do.
There's just things that my mind does that e I am I am e like No, no, that that that I'm going to do tomorrow.
Actually, I I started to put together.
I didn't finish it like Is that I kind of slept in a little bit this morning.
I do want to do that because we are gonna obviously pick Thursday night football.
Then we'll do our full week picks on Friday.
But I do want to be able to have bragging rights much, much, much, much.
Much like, um, I have in our full press fantasy football league are full press, radio, fantasy, football week, football league, where I am a perfect want it all.
Oh, you don't think I could go whole upset without doing this, right? Uh huh.
Hey, in a way, you're perfectly defeated as well.
