So that's what we're doing today to Lane Preview.
Let's go over to the interview section will have Willie frets on, but also have the Navy coaches.
So let's go ahead and put this up on the screen.
Okay? We'll start with coach Willie Fritz talking about the Navy game and also tie J.
Spears and also Cameron Sample talking about this week's game with two lane with Navy.
So go ahead, play this for you.
Worked out today, show everything that some turned on and show the sounds of Munich here the next two days.
So, you know, we're changing our routine up just a little bit to make sure that we're I'm gonna be ableto get some reps in practice.
You know, obviously, Navy runs something that's highly unusual offensively, and then they do some different things on defense as well.
They're a little unique on that side of the ball also, you know, really proud.
Cam Sample was named a C Defensive Player of the week, which is a great honor for Cam, and I think he was very deserving of that award.
He played outstanding game.
Um, Taj Spears was on the honor roll for the A C is Faras offense was concerned.
He also had a great game.
I think he had 11 carries, 100 5 yards and and two catches for 30 yards.
Uh, so that's neat that those guys got some recognition.
We had an opportunity toe last evening.
We watched the tape of the game and were able to go over a lot of different situations, and they come up in a real ball game and are you is a good learning session for our for our student athletes, and they're gonna clean a lot from this game both physically and mentally for the future ballgames.
You know, we know we're gonna find a different Navy team.
You know, I've listened.
Thio coach can talk about how he wished he had a, you know, scrimmaged more.
I was singing the blues on that after the ball game on Saturday night as well on I've already has been scrimmaging quite a bit recently.
So we're gonna, you know, see that tough, hard nosed Navy team there.
Very disciplined, very physical.
And, you know, we got a match.
All those things.
We play them Saturday afternoon.
Excuse me, I guess Saturday morning going 11 o'clock.
So that's exciting.
Any questions? NFL players? Sure.
True that I'm leaving Very good.
I think he's got tremendous movement, you know, he's a pro measure 63 to 80 a little over two eighties.
He really has got great change of direction.
Use his hands Well, you know you can play inside and play a four.
You could also play outside edge tackles, get off blocks.
What? He does a good job.
Really smart, intelligent young man, both in the classroom.
And you know, I'm playing football.
So yeah, I think there's no doubt about it.
He's, you know, he's a playing great for us.
He's done a fabulous job.
I've never coached in the NFL, but had a lot of guys who've gone on a plate.
I certainly think he's one of those guys gonna be able to do it, right.
Well, I'm fired up.
I'm you know, my wife and I are excited about it.
We love New Orleans.
We love to lane.
You know, we got great group of young men playing for us.
I think the future is extremely bright.
Got a great class that we signed last year.
I feel like we've got a great group committed.
And, you know, I just you know, this has been a you know, a great, um programmed had great teams in the past.
Great coaches and way just wanna do it consistently.
We wanna build upon what we've done here the last couple of years.
I really think there's the sky's the limit for two lane with the academics, we can sell the student athletes, uh, great league, we playing our location.
You know, all those things, air pluses, and no reason why we can't have high end academics and be a football powerhouse.
And that's what our goal is, Well, it approached me on it.
And to be honest with you, I think it's been done for quite a quite a long time.
So we just released it today and we're kind of waiting until all this got sorted out.
But who knows when all this is gonna get sorted out and and I'm excited about it, You know, my wife and I love living here, this great city to live in.
I've never I've always lived in college towns and, you know, here on an uptown, you get a You gotta get part of that college, uh, town experience, which I think is important, because here on campus, everybody knows each other.
We're not. We're not a large university.
We've only got about 8000 full time students.
We also get the feel of a big city.
And New Orleans is so unique.
It's a little bit different than Statesboro in Huntsville, Warrensburg, Missouri, Texas.
So it's a little bit more to do.
So we really enjoyed her. Love it.
I think that it Z and as I've said many times before, they've had great teams here.
It just hasn't happened consistently.
Obviously, we made the big move up conference wise up to the A A C.
And I think people are starting to understand what a great conference the A C is.
Um, you know, But I don't.
There's no reason why we can't get it done.
And we've had really good continuity with staff.
I've got great assistant coaches, great coordinators.
You know, I gotta do a super job trying to keep those guys, but you know it, Z, this is a There's a great place to live in a great place to coach a great university of work, for I enjoy working for Troy Danning.
You know, he's he tries to help us every step along the way.
And he and I have a good relationship.
You know, I see the big picture athletically as well.
And now, you know, try to do what I can t help the athletic department as well.
But you know, he's funny.
Doctor fits our president is his aces.
You know, he's no matter of fact, we're gonna bunch of our guys.
We're gonna We're gonna stay in hotel in next couple days.
you know, just to make sure that everything goes You know what? The next few days.
So there's no reason you can't do it big here to like today.
Well, we're shut down.
You know it, Z, they're all the powers going off here in the Wilson Center here in two o'clock today.
So we got a bunch of guys on campus.
It's just being prevented.
You know, I've been through a lot of these deals where it hasn't happened.
You all I know and and Gary probably for sure have been where it's been for really eso We take all these possibilities seriously.
And and that's why we're gonna move these guys for at least the next couple days so they could be safe.
Leave? No, that's what I tell him.
When I You know, the last few months, I've told him that I in a contract runs through 2027.
I've already been telling some recruits this, You know, I'm gonna be your head coach the whole time you're gonna be here, and I got a lot of coaches.
You know, all my staff that I really think be here for a long period of time.
They love New Orleans.
It's unique experience for them.
And I bet a couple my coaches tell me it's the first place I've ever been where they have friends outside the coaching staff, you know, most of time coaches air, you know, just they're just hanging out with each other all the time and they don't They don't really know a lot of other people.
So I think that's the for my coaches.
So, yeah, I do think that's a big deal of recruiting.
You know, Thio be ableto tell kids and hey, I'm gonna be your head football coach and that shouldn't be the only reason that kid picks the university, But I think it's a very important one, you know.
I tell him all the time. Number one better be academics.
What do you do with that degree for the next 40 years? Your life? That's the That's the number one thing we sell.
I know that there's, you know, he's got unbelievable work ethic.
I mean, this guy comes, comes to work every single day.
It's one of our hardest workers, and generally speaking, your best players are also your hardest workers and that very few times where it hasn't hasn't worked that way, but he's tough.
You know. He can help block you.
You know, sometimes you get guys and, you know, receiving passes or carrying the ball.
And sometimes I don't wanna do those extra things.
He's a tough, hard nosed competitors.
He's good at blockers we've got.
There was three or four times during Champ when we had some big linebackers blitz in the a gap of the big Gap.
He met him at the line of scrimmage and put them on their backs, which is unusual for I'm running back to do so.
We love everything about him and catch the ball.
Sound good inside and outside.
I think he's only gonna get better.
Sure, Carol Next.
Yeah, well, you know, I just I just just go every day and I e just treat these assistants as good as I can.
I think we've got a great work environment, You know, I've been an assistant coach before.
I've been a coordinator before, you know, and I've been a head coach a long time.
I was really blessed when I came up through the ranks to work for great head coaches and and you know that work, You know? You know, the style of ours Keep.
You know, these guys were all family men too.
I tried to give him an opportunity, Thio.
You'll be around their family as much as they can.
I have families up here at the office is much they wanna be.
It's different now.
All those guys, you know, I'm I'm very fortunate.
I've got a great group of coaches in a, you know, love to have him here a za long as they they wanna be here.
But I don't get in anybody's way If someone feels there's that better opportunity out there for my I'm here to help, You know, I've made now, you know, I lost it a couple of great coaches last year, Kevin People's Chris Hampton.
And they had some great opportunities.
And, uh, heck, I've wanted to help those guys and I did with coaches when they called me.
You know, we feel like we replaced him with great coaches as well, you know? So just it's ah, you know, when you have a lot of success, you know, that's what happens.
Yeah, I think, Please.
I think it's gonna be great to have a game under our belt.
You know, it's just everybody doing their 1/11 doing their job.
Za simplest phrase.
You do your job.
You hear a lot of football coaches talk about that? Uh, not not as accurate as we needed to be.
Catching the ball.
I think we had five drops and two or three of those were for first downs.
Now you moved the chains.
One guy blocking the wrong guy on on a particular run play, You know, just things like that.
You know it, Z, um, you know, we were able to overcome it, But that first game, it's always a little bit different.
They always don't do everything exactly like you think you're gonna see.
You gotta make adjustments and and then you gotta have experience to do that.
Uh, but, you know, we're really close on a lot of place in the first half.
And then we did a much better job in the second half with execution, and and that's where we started getting successful.
Yeah, And he thank you.
Okay, Doc, your spirits coming up.
Just had had about on and then we'll have Cody samples coming up next.
Um, can samples not. I feel good.
I just want to start out by thanking God and also Officer Lyman and the coaching, too.
But I feel good, though.
It's a lot of it's a lot of little things I could do to improve on my game like we're blocking even running the ball, even making better, Better place in the game.
It's annoying here.
Uh, it was very hard, but, you know, I'm very supportive, you know, It ain't it ain't all about me.
It's about, you know, it's about other people too.
So, like, however, could I? How about can support I'm gonna do so it's locker anymore.
I try to be like, I wanna be the best block.
I wanna be a like this might sound crazy.
I wanna be a better blocker than a runner.
Like I really I really like this offseason.
I really took problem to that because, you know, most people think is me running the ball like I wanna be a block or two.
Like I really take pride in it.
Like that's a big part of my game.
I wanna get better.
And I'm gonna keep on getting better.
Predict whether you in January, we're gonna here during the game, you know, and courage.
Very encouraging, man.
Like, uh, you know, I don't wanna go on go on all day, but, you know, like since the 10th grade, he's like, you know, I was a bad kid, but like, he told me that they, like you got a chance to play college football, and it changed my life.
Ever since then, never since then, like he'd been He's been like a father figure for me, you know, pulling screens for me.
Like he even got me here.
So, like, I'm very thankful.
I'm glad I stayed in post to played on him.
Big, big role model for me.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Like I thought he hated me one of the point, but yeah, that's my dog here right now.
Right? Um, I think you know, it is all about God, but like he played a big, big, big, big, big part.
He played a big, big part.
I'm so thankful for you there, right? No, I ain't stressed.
Like I try to put my try to put my put a lot of stress on me during practice, so that would be easier.
Like I like having.
I like having a lot of big regular, like you said.
So, you know, it was normal.
It's time to amp it up, though, right? A whole bunch of like, you know, it's time.
It's time to go harder every game.
You gotta go hard. Every play. You gotta go harder.
I ain't complacent.
I ain't satisfied where I'm at right now.
I gotta keep on getting better, right? I think it was too late.
I think they told me the foe foe.
But I'm give you 45 because I don't want a lot.
I'm gonna say it for far.
I think I'm fascinated.
On your shoulder at all.
Uh, I try to think as it like a chip on my shoulder, but, like, I don't really I don't really play with a chip on my shoulder. I play.
I'll be really be having fun.
I really be I really be zoning or like what I'm doing.
So, like, I really just be I really be focused on the moment.
I don't really care about that chip on your shoulder, because I don't Me personally, I don't really believe in all that.
So I just play like I'm just trying to be the best I could be, right? I know.
And other people that I was under recruiter, But I'm here now.
I'm gonna make the best out of my opportunity here.
That's all right.
Now I'm gonna That's hard, versatile.
Uh, I don't want to brag on myself. Unique.
I'm let other people do that, man unique.
Anything else? Yeah.
Okay, Cam samples comes up.
Next on, it will have Coach Ken Martin, Martin, ego, Martina, go with Navy.
Um, I think it's a good starting point.
You know, looking back at the film, Thought left someplace out there, there's more stuff I could, um I feel like, um and it's kind of new role that got me.
I think I played pretty well, but it's just a game one.
I'll just let the build on it going for fourth and rest of the season.
What is you? Um just let me.
I feel like I'm in a more of attack position now.
I gotta make more plays.
Um, some more of my athleticism.
Oh, yeah, definitely.
Just kind of give me to let loose anything.
Third quarter where you I'm really What? Right.
Actually, um well, I think once a quarterback change happened, we realize they're becoming of a passing team.
So I feel like our mindset, you know, after 1st, 2nd obvious rundowns, you know, just really pin our ears back and go get it.
And dbs tighten up their coverage, and we just is to start flying in.
And there was reports.
It's he said, What do you think? What? What makes him right? Um, I know everyone uses it, but legit disguise and limit.
You know, Fritz, he's been doing it for a while. He's a great leader.
He set his expectations, um, pushes us to get there and go past him every day.
So, um, this program is definitely a great hands with Coach Fritz, and I'm excited to see what we do this year.
And the year is going forward with him being here working fire range.
They come ready on the, um You know, I felt like I didn't really get toe put a complete season together, you know, a couple of years, whether it be injuries or other issues going on.
So I'm just blessed to have this opportunity.
I'm just gonna attack every game, every rep, like this, and definitely just let my elevator games speak for itself.
Got Navy coming up this drill now? Yeah, very.
You know, not very many teams in the country on the triple option the way they do, so it's kind of Ah, completely different teams like than what we've seen last week.
Different scheme. And, yeah, we got a lot of experience.
I'm a lot of guys who played in these games kind of know what to expect.
So I think that help us moving forward.
We'll just be ready for him on Saturday.
Slow start last year.
You're make sure you, um You know, I can't really put a finger on it.
I just know we gotta unlocking, stay focused and just come out and throw the first punch.
You know, let them get up and try to make it ESPN class out of every game.
We just need to set the tone and just keep our foot on the gas.
How? Um, it's great publicity for the school, you know, our program.
But, I mean, I think our mindset as players is just a game.
You gotta go out.
We want to know after this week between on the year.
So it's great for the program, but we're just going out trying to win the game.
Once again, we'll have coach can mute mute Negro.
Uh, his name is a little tricky, but we'll go ahead and put him in.
We'll go ahead and put his interview in with the media, which is over two navy athletics, and we'll switch it to coach.
I was switched to him.
You was on, so I was going to play him, set it up.
So everything just set.
Um, I love your remarks, by the way, after the game with kind of it's on me thing.
A Sfar is the practice and whatnot.
How how different is your preparation gonna be here? Going forward, given that result Monday night? Yeah.
Obviously thought long about I mean, you kind of hope that doesn't happen But when you've been doing this for so long, I mean, I I know how toe I got all these stupid ****ogies gonna bake a cake.
And I know the ingredients.
If you skip some ingredients, it's not gonna turn out.
And so when you skip those kinds of things, our cake was flat.
I mean, it's this is a contact sport.
You can't, you know, skip it.
And so just, you know, just talked with trainers and everything.
We're testing twice a week now.
Now we're in season, you know? So I feel like we could be safer, and we just we just go.
You know, we just go and talked with our team today just to make sure that everybody is comfortable with that too, you know, because I don't want to force anybody, you know, Just say this is we're gonna practice normally.
Um, you know, the contact tracing in our league obviously, is a little bit mawr stranger with all the face to face up, but we feel like hey for it.
We're testing twice a week now.
You know, some places, like in the league that test daily, so you know you can mitigate that stuff with? No, we release up to twice a week.
So I feel, you know, safe that we could practice going back to normal on.
We probably hit a little bit more than we would in the season.
Like even if we're in the season right now, you wouldn't do is much because, you know, you don't tackle stuff like the season, Obviously missing all that stuff.
It's like you have a process and you go from a toe.
You know, you go from a to K.
You know, you skip everything in between it and I was here.
Your rewards don't The words don't make sense because you skip all those ingredients.
So they were a team well prepared.
Um, there are a team just prepared normally, you know, I mean, that's what they look like.
They look like they were playing a game.
We're playing first Scrimmage is like the first scrimmage because somebody were, you know, that's what it looked like.
But how would you expect anything? Anything differently.
So you kind of hope, you know, And I knew all of this before that I was just kind of weighing it.
Okay, let's try toe we'll see the football part of it.
And no, I thought about it over the weekend stuff.
You know, I think I e feel better about being able to press forward with twice a week testing.
But like I said after the game, I still I feel like if I was to do it again, I'd probably do it the same way.
Now I'm a football coach, but you're in charge of people's lives to, you know, I mean in their safety.
And we just unfortunate buried one of our players a couple months ago.
So I'm not saying that everybody dies from Kobe 19.
You know, there's fortunate those that air healthier seem to live, live and do okay with it.
But all those factors, all those stuff factor in, you know, when you make this kind of this is just more to me, it's more than winning games, you know? I mean, I just First of all, you always take care of people, take care of people, appreciate people are healthy.
Um but I feel better now.
I feel better with having two tests.
You obviously don't feel better with the results.
I mean, it sucks Losing, especially losing like that.
We've never lost like that at home.
We have not been lost, like out there anybody and I mean coach to me.
It's just, um and it could have got worse, you know.
But again, they were team that could tell, been playing and practicing normal.
And we look like a team that had our first life interaction way look horrible.
But it wasn't was in the player's fault.
Wasn't the assistant coach's fault.
I had our guys try to get ready under those cir***stances which you can looking, looking forward, What's the positive side of that temple game getting pushed back the way it is and giving you that time In between, I think all of us good and I feel it's all of its good.
I feel like we're better.
We've had several tests and you know, we've been really clear.
I mean, don't have any positive.
So there's a lot of good things from that standpoint, which was my number one goal in all of this from the beginning of it, not just to play season but to keep people safe.
So I feel good about the extra time you can prepare football wise, especially altitude to test per week.
So I feel like we can start to start preparing a little bit normally.
Um, like I said, I always started with the cove in 19 for stuff first and then working for the football.
Second, I feel like we can do football stuff now.
Keep our guys safe, keep our players saves.
E Feel good about that.
An extra time with definitely opens.
All right. Thank you.
Korean Copeland, Washington Post.
Question both quick question.
What was the conversation like with doctors or the medical books? When you start, uh, discuss going back. Thio, I guess.
All normal practices.
Number one and number two.
You guys have actual scrimmages now, Um, are any scrimmaging as you get ready to prepare? Oh, yeah.
Well, we're gonna practice normal.
We're just gonna do normal, and no, it obviously I mean, that game, I mean, like I said, it was your worst nightmare, but you kind of hope it wouldn't happen.
There was a high likelihood, high likelihood that that would happen.
Not not hitting, not doing anything.
Live in the last time we tackled somebody was in the ballgame.
And the only tackling way did with donuts and only blocking We did with bags.
So it's, I mean, there's a high likelihood.
That's what it looked like.
But I knew that I took on.
I still made that decision on.
So I'm talking with the doctors or our medical guys like, Well, e feel a little bit better that we're testing twice a week.
Do you guys feel better? Because we do.
Plus, in all of our latest test, we've been, you know, we've been cleaned.
And so with all that case and you feel good that I'm gonna go ahead and just start practicing normal, they said yes.
We're gonna press forward.
I mean, we had to test this morning.
I mean, I hope program and the cool thing.
Like I said, everybody in involved program has been negative so that I've been really excited about that.
And so we just kind of pressed forward.
Um, we got to speed up some stuff like you said, because we didn't tackle it all during camp, didn't have spring ball, um probably picked the wrong team to play that had spring ball and had all the camp, but they're a team that I thought would be safe to, you know, Like they said that there earlier part when Notre Dame fell out is who are some teams that I feel like keep our guys safe, too.
Just one follow.
Now that you've seen the tape, obviously, you know, I wasn't happy with the overall product.
But where there's some positives that once you went back and looked at the tape that he said, Okay, well, at least we did this one.
I mean a lot, a lot of stuff, me and not much.
But you see a lot of things like, obviously, there's a lot of room for improvement.
Um, you know, it's I'm I'm encouraged because I guess, more than anything on the tip, I was encouraged by our demeanor on the sideline.
You know, we have a character of our program, is really strong.
There's no negativity.
There's no finger pointing, Ah, lot of great leadership on the sideline.
But obviously we got to play better.
But also you gotta being able to allow our guys to be able to play bear better by preparing better.
So that's why I guess the several line for me is, you know, we can play football now.
Um, we were just kind of go from there.
Um, you Dave, you still here? Just like e o.
Good afternoon, Coach Dave Preston.
I thought I had muted my Now I have not coach.
First off, they say that the biggest improved I'm not okay.
Yeah, You're cutting in and out s Bill Wagner, Annapolis Capital.
Can you walk us through how a post game testing works? And because I'm guessing you don't wanna have team activities until you know how you guys came out of the game.
Can you kind of just walk us through how it works? And when you get a test result back knowing that, Okay, here we are Monday, and I'm comfortable with having a team meet wide meeting or practice or whatever, because I now know everyone's safe.
Well, I don't know if I should allow that.
I mean, that should come from the medical people, but I just know that, you know, we have test and they tell us we're all good.
We get the results back and you know, it's been going well, Like you said, we'll probably the cleanest team in the country.
Unfortunately, we sucking football right now, so it's, um but it zits my fault.
Like I said, I don't blame anybody.
I don't not blame the players and assistant coaches at all because we had long discussions, and they're like, you know, we gotta do this. We gotta do that.
I know we're not gonna do it.
And, you know, I've talked to players and, like, Coach, we need him or and no, I'm not gonna So it was all of me.
You know, we're not a very good football team, but how could you be a good football team if you don't practice by? I mean, I start the players, folks, My fault.
So I'll see if stress So let me talk to Jim Barry about how it all works.
But would it be fair to say that you do not restart your team activities each week until you know how you come out of the game? Because they're clean, you know? I mean, I think the part about it is No, we start, but I mean, we both tests before the game, you know, I mean, and that's how we see.
That's where all this global starts from.
E mean, everybody that's involved with the football team and coaches.
You're all tested before the game.
You get a band, you know, saying that you're cleared.
And so the only people your interact with in the game where people they're supposedly negative, so right, including what? Not everybody.
So, you know, the only people allowed and there are people that have been tested Well, I know you're beating yourself up on one hand, but on the other hand, what you did in preseason did work because unlike a lot of other programs, when they first came back, you didn't have outbreaks.
So I mean, you've got to take some positives from your approach and then just figure out a way to make that work with what you gotta do going forward.
What? I've been doing this a long time, you know? I mean, so I knew the risk.
I knew the risk if you didn't practice what your team would look like.
I mean, we haven't We didn't have spring ball.
We're looking forward to finding the quarterback in spring to see what he could do. We didn't have that.
You didn't have summer workouts.
And while most people were able to come back June 1st we came back, uh, early July.
But we had to quarantine for two weeks then our first two weeks in July.
I mean, two weeks in July will walk throughs.
And so the only time we started to practice was in August.
And then in August, I didn't hit, and that was my choice.
And so all right, I wait, all of it in I wait, all of it.
You know, you're gonna have a bad football team or do you risk people's health? And with everything was going on, I mean, you look at it, you know, I don't know what's gonna happen, Swire it on that side, you know, I mean, that's the side that if I was going to err on the side, I've been doing this a long time.
I'm not trying toe, uh, you know, get a statue or anything like that or any winds.
Just my first thought was, you know, keep our guys safe and try the best to mitigate the other part.
And I was hoping we could do that, you know, kind of crossing your fingers, knowing that the other side that's that's a bad formula to getting the team ready.
Or I could have went You know what? We're gonna practice normal.
Whatever happens, happens and I don't want to go that route, you know? I mean, I mean, you probably have been a better football team, but like I said, I mean, there are a lot of things that waiting some of that the health issues, Um, you know, we had a pretty traumatic thing happened in a program off season, you know? I mean, so I'll give an example.
When I was an assistant coach, when there's lightning, I used to always be the guy like if the head coach say, you know, head on head indoors, you know, saw some lightning and like what? Come on, Lightning.
I mean, so far away.
We're good, keep practicing.
But when you come to become the head coach and or health stuff, besides, I mean e feel like I'm gonna err on the side of protecting the players families, and I know the fans don't want to hear that, And I obviously don't like losing.
But it's the decision I made based on all of them.
Um, considering how things unfolded, is it tough to evaluate Dehlin's performance? Ah, Perry came in and did a couple good things, but, I mean, he didn't have a whole lot of chance, either.
But, I mean, where where are you with your quarterbacks coach? Does that game even play into that? Yeah.
I mean, like I said, it was kind of like I shouldn't say this could be Why beat the crap what is, like, our first live scrimmage of that? So you can kinda evaluate them, see how they're doing and fortune played against the team.
But no, I think you know either will continue to assess that.
It's kind of hard to get assessment because we didn't play very well.
Um, you know, two teams were playing that totally different speeds.
It was like one team was playing normal football and we were playing touch football, you know? I mean, one team was playing a game. We're scrimmaging.
Like I said, I've been in that stadium many times and played many people.
We played Notre Dame.
We played the House State.
We played South Carolina.
You know, he played a lot of really good teams over the years.
All the teams in our conference, and we've never played like that.
But why should we mean we weren't prepared? There's my phone so last for me, and I'll let someone else go on being that you now have two weeks before two Lane and you mentioned that you're going to practice normally.
Would it be fair to say that evaluations sort of begin a new? Because now you'll be evaluating in a bit of a different light, right? No doubt, No doubt.
I mean, touch football is over with the bags, you know, it's stuff over now.
We gotta be careful.
Can't you know, old school? You know, we're not talking about Oklahoma drills for two hours.
That's what I'm talking about.
You know, we just got to be smart, you know? I mean, but just we're just gonna practice, like how we normally practice.
You know that the way we know that we could get a football team ready and count on our testing and our protocol to save us from other stuff.
And just think about football.
The ****ogy that I gave to people is when we're practicing.
It's like the MBA, like when they're playing, they're playing basketball.
When they come off, then they separate and social distance put in the court.
They play basketball, and that's what I wanna do, what we're practicing.
It's the way we practice and then we're outside.
I mean, outside, you know, wear a mask and all this stuff.
That's that's what we're gonna do now and again.
I want to make sure our team was okay with that, because there's a lot of people in different places.
Some people like what? I don't want to wear a mask.
And some people like you know where that mass going to the bathroom.
And there's some people that are kind of in between, so I just want to make sure all of our players Okay, this is the way you're gonna practice.
Are you cool with it? If you're not, come talk to me.
And, um that's totally right.
Mike James rivals Bibles.
I was I was muted.
Um, how long does it take to get up to game speed? You know, you mentioned that that you usually have spring you have a couple of weeks of fall camp, but now you have a week and a half.
A good part of that is gonna be spent on two lane prep.
I mean, do you have any sense of how long it's going? Thio Take to get up, Thio point where you're satisfied.
I don't know, Mike.
It it's gonna be hard, but you've got the best we can.
I know I had long talks, even this way we were practicing before with our administration.
Like Okay, wait a minute.
They got to come back in July and then, you know, the two weeks quarantine that means you're going to have this certain amount of time is gonna be tough to get them ready, you know, and just conditioning.
So our guys, So you're you're gone for three months on, um, pandemic.
Some of our guys got in good shape because some guys got a home gym and some guys got person to run.
Some guys weren't in great shape, but then you get here and then for two weeks during quarantine, and all you can do is sit ups and push ups.
So then any base that anybody got they might have lost their conditioning base.
And so I thought we built that up pretty good.
I know it's not the work Coach Fitz wants it.
Um, I think we're getting better.
Kind of where the assignment wise.
You know, we did so many walk throughs and stuff.
I think we're getting okay there.
The other part of it, Mike, I don't know.
It's one thing walking through.
Like I said, it's one thing block tackling a doughnut.
But to do it live, it's hopefully we're better, you know, like the somebody said, You always make your best.
Improvements will definitely make way more improvement.
Now that we get to practice, we've got no choice.
I mean, it's the worst we've ever played.
But I don't know how long this can take migrants.
We're gonna push the envelope a little bit and some of the things that we do.
Um but you also gotta be careful, you know? I mean, like I said, you can't have two hours of of contact Oklahoma drills.
I mean, we won't have anybody left, you know, two weeks old.
We'll see how that goes, You know? I mean, I'm encouraged At least we could start doing some good football practice.
Um, in the past, when you've had a week off, you would usually spend the first week kind of focusing on yourself and then the second week for kind of kind of preparing for for the game.
Are you following a similar pattern now, or do you mix up what you're doing each day? This has been the strangest here.
Like I said, I normally have a schedule what we do.
But everything might spend day to day, like So we're gonna go against each other, uh, tomorrow, you know, have a physical practice.
And normally, I'd like to try to make go again and doing that.
But I got to see what we're out of that I would have to cut back a little bit.
Or Taylor back on Friday and practice Saturday.
I have two tough days Thursday, Friday, then till back things on Saturday.
Um, this has been hard, like I said, because maybe flew to started, you know, normal practicing in camp.
I could have a better gauge right now, but because the gauge level I don't really know besides the fact I saw this place Saturday live and like, Whoa.
I mean that we're not ready.
Um will determine the rest of basically I'm saying anything.
We did it last year.
This is, you know, we're just going by how the, you know, the team looks and so we're just gauge how we're doing by today's practice.
And tomorrow's practice kind of go from there.
But really, as obviously said, the biggest focuses us on us.
You mentioned earlier you were encouraged by your team's demeanor on the sideline.
How are they doing in practice? You get any sense that maybe they're frustrated that what they put out on on Saturday is a representative of what they really are? Yes.
I mean, I know their teams definitely frustrated.
E mean, we're a hard team to beat at home.
I mean, we we don't get me like that from anybody.
I mean, just go on, get eat like that.
You mean, I felt, you know, I was glad that, you know, kept our guys safe, but I was definitely not happy Thio for our guys to be able because nobody wants to experience that.
I was sad for players link our guys wanna We got tough kids like they want to press forward.
They're resilient kids.
Um, I have great kids.
I mean, like you said, some guys that came to me in person and said, Coach, you know, we're getting enough.
And I said, No, but this is the way I want to practice.
There's such great kids, Michael.
Any went forward, You know? I mean, so, um yeah, we're gonna move forward.
I think these kids a They said some good things in a meeting today.
You know, that's the past that press forward.
I gotta help them, you know, be able to be able to get better.
You know, I can ask him to do something when I don't give them opportunities to get better.
So hopefully hopefully, hopefully we'll get better quickly on Got a really good team into Lincoln, you know, or thanks.
Coach, about wykoff w b a l radio.
Hey, Coach, uh, you've looked a lot of players in the eyes and meetings.
After losses and tough situations.
Do you get a sense that they're fired up now that yeah, they could strap it on and they can show.
And maybe some guys who might have not made the first starting lineup, saying, Hey, this is my chance now to prove that I could maybe step up and and pressure that guy who was ahead of me in the depth chart, you get a sense that they're fired up, that they could really go at it now in practice.
I think our guys excited to move on.
You know? I mean, that was not indicative of, ah, Navy football team or program that was a Navy football.
That's not what we are.
Rose, well conditioned physical team.
Um, so I think they recognize that wasn't them on.
And like I said, they know.
I mean, it was my fault And the players, you know, I talked about that even before the game.
You know, we're practicing differently.
This isn't the way we normally practice with try our best.
And so in this not like what? This.
They're not pointing the finger at me, but they know.
I mean, these kids, they're great kids.
I mean, they don't have to say I was your fault.
I mean, it's obvious it was obviously, it's it's the way we practiced.
That was not a product that we put out there.
So because of that e feel like guys like you know what? We're gonna be doing things normally.
Now they already moved forward.
Something that's probably frustrating for every coach who coaches 18 1920 year olds is.
Sometimes they're short memory span.
But maybe that's an advantage.
Now that, uh, kids this age, they could move on, they don't They don't maybe look back as hard as we do because they've got so much ahead of them that they're like, Yeah, we're ready to go.
We're playing two lane.
It's my next chance to shine.
Well, we're excited to be one of the teams still playing, but they're also excited to move that move on after this game and not let this one lost turn into two in the press forward.
I think that's exciting thing. That's what they talked about today.
Just not letting just one game tournaments, two losses.
Yeah, a couple nice runs by miles.
Do you like the fact that he was able to show some explosiveness for it? Yeah, we just need more of it.
But I thought Miles, you know, had some nice, nice runs way.
Need a few more of those bright spots, but yeah, that was exciting.
And one final one for your coach Did you get a sense that the assignments were right, that the guys knew where they were supposed to be and what they were supposed to do? It was just the other the physical nature of it that wasn't there.
Well, the physical nature, obviously, was the first part of it.
You know, we weren't playing this well.
Like you said, we were scrimmaging, and they're playing the game.
Uh, but no assignments.
E mean, I don't know if there ever perfect, but we were We had a lot of states to in that first game.
Thank you. Dave Preston.
All right, move on.
David Heo, ESPN can.
In the run up to the game, you mentioned some of the players kind of saying to you like, hey, coach way hit enough.
What were the conversations you had with your assistance? Uh, and the coaching staff and they, you know, were they kind of pushing you to maybe think otherwise are How much did you kind of wrestle with that decision back and forth a Zagat closer to gain weight.
I mean, it wasn't arrest.
I knew I knew what it would be.
But I was, You know, you kind of wait two things.
I mean, the coaches, I mean, all of them.
I mean, we had long we had long discussions, staff me about this and I just told guys, this is the approach we want to take, You know, we're probably gonna suffer from a physical standpoint and being pad ready.
But I wanna air on the side of safety for players, and I have great, great assistant coaches that trust me.
And, you know, they voice their opinion, you know, And I just Guys, I I guess I have part about that.
I didn't disagree with him.
It is like, you know, you're probably right.
You're probably right.
There is gonna be hard for us to tackle.
There's some concern about tackling.
Is concerned about coming off the ball the way we normally come off the ball online wise, where we fire off the ball that we hit people.
And you know, there's a lot of that and I knew all of that, but I still chose to go down this road.
So it wasn't like I was hoping, you know, I was hoping for a miracle, so to speak that maybe we could, you know, practice this way and still be rated for football.
I mean, as the first couple of plays happened, it was going on the game with, like, it's, you know, we were moving at two different speeds.
You mean like because they're there? Uh, you know, playing football, we're doing scrimmage.
But like I said, it wasn't a surprise.
I was just hoping for better.
I just chose safety of the other stuff.
And the one discussion we're talking about goods like Coach.
You gotta be concerned about safety and tactics.
I'm definitely concerned on that.
So I just You know, the one thing we try to work is open field, hot tackling, just keeping your head out of it.
You know, just, uh they want anybody get, you know, paralyzed or anything like that.
But those air, we have a lot of those discussions during the month, and I just made a decision early on that that was the philosophy I was gonna have, Whether it costs us to win or lose.
The priority for me was keeping our team safe, and whatever came below, it was below it.
It wasn't when and then, you know, safety down here.
It was like this.
What is it? It turned out the way.
How was it for you after that game Monday night? Was it Did you kind of beat yourself up a little bit afterwards or struggle with the decision making process, or how did you How did you handle it Emotionally? Yeah, What's sad for guys? Because I know that's not us, you know? I mean, I was sad to see are just sad to see off our Navy football team, go out and play like that.
Um, I was sad because that's not us.
That's not the way you play.
You know, the big thing that we're doing given example.
So I don't just say like, Coach no one was here from been a lot of different places.
And so he was saying, you know, one day, Coach New Newbury had his baby in spring.
So, Coach, no, it was calling plays on.
We had two huddles going going against the defense, like we normally do in the spring and we got pretty rapid fire.
And, uh, because I told Coach know what? You know.
Hey, we're gonna becoming pretty quickly at you in our team, period.
So just be ready for that as you're calling place, That our offense, we're gonna come pretty rapid fire the coach? Uh, no, he goes, I'm used to that.
Bela used to go up tempo fast yet I'm good.
He had no idea off, hard enough. Faster.
We practice and everything we did.
And after I remember talking to him after this man, I don't know it was gonna be like that.
And so you miss all of that.
You know, the way we build our character, all of this stuff, how you formulate our team, the process of building our team, because again, we're never is big and this fast as everybody else.
But it's those kinds of things that separate us.
We didn't have that.
You know, we kind of went from the way we looked on.
The game is the way we practice getting bags, tackling donuts.
Unfortunately, they weren't donuts, they were moving.
And they're big linemen.
So I struggled with with that from the way our product looked because I know that's not us.
Um, but if I was to go back again, Dave, I'd probably do the same thing in the same scenario.
You know what I mean? It's just with now, you know, knowing what you know now with the testing and now we contest.
And, you know, there's so much stuff in me that I don't know who to believe.
Somebody says, there's somebody says that, E I mean, just you don't know what to believe and all that stuff, but so I I rode on the side of caution for a team.
You You know, I know players have certainly their navy, but around the country have spoken.
So unfortunately about wanting to play and how much this season means to them.
So I'm sure you have an obligation to want toe give that to them at the same time.
Was there part of you that was kind of hoping that you know the powers that be would step in and say like, You know what? I think we're not in a place to play right now.
Way need to take more time.
I don't know if I was there I was at a place like, you know, like I said, like everybody else, we're all taking in information, you know? I was like, Okay.
Is this how we keep our team safe? And early on, you know, you watch all these teams test positive? Just just this team had this morning, they had stopped practice.
So, like, well, you know, then you hear all the stuff about the Marquardt eyes and all the different things were going on.
So all this stuff started to wear is going to try to keep our guys safe.
And then early in, our protocol was so tight, like, Wow, we weren't having any positives.
I was like, Well, they feel like we're what we're doing.
Our bubble there. Everything.
That protocol is keeping us safe.
And I was happening that side of it, and I knew that we could keep our guys safe.
But I know football. We're suffering.
Like I know this wasn't the way to get ready.
Football wise, I was.
The only thing I was concerned about from a physical football standpoint was tackling, you know, just making sure nobody got hurt s.
So we try to do some stuff you know, the open field tackling mitigated.
But I feel like if we are protocols type, we could keep people safe.
And I wasn't, you know, thinking that because I feel like we need to get out and play.
I mean, there's some other stuff going on behind besides the cov 19.
I've said this before.
There's guys, just some, you know, there's there's mental stuff going on.
There's a lot of depression and anxiety.
We're human beings.
We need to see the sun, man.
We need to get out.
Need to socialize, you know, staying in quarantine and being in isolation is not a good thing, you know? I mean, when you're in prison thing that people do toe, um, you know, make things worse than the prisoners they isolated, you know? So, you know, being inside, it's obviously we're trying to stay safe, but there's also some of the other mental stuff, too.
They we have to try to mitigate, trying to create a locker room space outdoors where guys could be outside.
Um, so I just want to try to make sure you're safe and the football will suffer.
Obviously, the football suffered tremendously.
Now I'm trying to re evaluated again.
Can we feel like if you do this safe now, I feel like I'm in? Whatever the different phase, I feel like a different phase now.
We could test twice feel that can keep our team safe, more practice.
So once again, that was from Navy.
So let's go ahead and go over the Let's Go over the film study.
Let's get that set up or go with the film study and we'll go over to stop breakdowns and we'll wrap this up because it is over to eat film study.
What's What's that over? We'll go over to Navy, and, uh, we'll do the breakdown.
So let's go ahead and have that up.
What's what's that over There it is.
We'll go with the film study, so it's like on the first place.
Let's see what happens here in the first place.
This was at the 10 42 mark.
This was on 35 so they had some big holes right there going into those big holes.
So that's one thing that they absolutely did wrong.
And so letting um, BYU run that football because they had some good backs running a football that night when it was playing against Navy.
So Navy was slopping on that when that place so so by the flag came in? Yeah, and this was on first of 10.
So Navy is set up.
Uh, let's see what the play they'll make.
Yeah, um, they'll let they'll let you see that run right there on the left.
So that was a good, um, perfect penetration right there.
When you see those perfect penetrations going, that's good for any running game.
So I think if we can, um, take advantage of our Navy's weakness, that was That was right there.
That was a BYU did a pretty good job on that situation.
So I work at it this way.
If you can contain, um, if you can run the ball against Navy, that would help you right there.
So let's go through some or place.
So that was a big game right there.
And that was a touchdown right there.
That was from one of their running backs.
Um, for BYU, that was a 34 year old from, uh, Ella Ella, Guerrilla L. A gorilla.
He was a good running right there that night.
He had some nice little runs right there against that Navy defense.
So I'm gonna tell you right now if we can have those good runs, We had some good the last time we played them two years ago, that was in your mind stadium.
We had We had a good league in that game.
But the truth of the matter is we let it slip away and be honest, which we had to come back in that game.
So this is one of the places that they had right here against the Navy defense.
So this was a run play? Give you another a play.
I'll give you another A situation.
This is the run play right here by number four.
So he had had some Good.
Um, so this is what happened on that run place.
So they their offensive line absolutely just obliterated the Navy, uh, defensive lineman so that they was just absolutely ah, sucking wind.
That's one thing about it.
So if you could tire there, um, defensive line out, that would help the offense progress in those situations.
So Baylor did a pretty good job on that play right there.
B y b y u Excuse me I keep saying I'm getting ahead of myself.
Sorry, but that BYU, um That was a nice little run by kill.
Um, um, Kate or he just put it.
This is the back view right here.
So he just goes in, and that line opens up right there.
So that's Ah, that's the alleyway for they're runs.
They had some pretty good runs against that.
Maybe, um, defensive lines.
So they were just absolutely obliterated on those runs.
This is the pilot can with, uh, race that, then the past place.
Then then then that past play this was there on this was the only bright spot right here.
Navy on the on first attendant interception right there.
That was the only bright spot of that game right there.
It's the interception.
So that was one of their, um that was the only bright spots.
It's the end of Sampson.
This is, uh, metal play right here.
This is on 1st and 10.
Giving the situation.
He was dropping back.
That quarterback for BYU was throwing it.
He just hit us receiver right there.
So he had three, uh, people coming towards him, so he had a good receptions That was against the Navy secondary right there.
So that was against the day.
The second dowry.
Okay, this is a run play right here.
Play up the middle, so they will get that nice run play right there.
See? Will get in that alleyway right there.
So it will be a good alleyway.
And he just got right out of that run right there, right out of the guns. Right there.
Um, So, like I said, they get a pretty good job. They Absolutely.
BYU did a pretty good job penetration against the Navy defense.
So why Coach? Um, Coach Martin, um, mute, mute, mute today? Grow says.
But they would They would Just playing first team scrimmage.
That's one thing that was playing.
So I'll be honest with you, Navy.
It's gonna come in your mind stadium, and they're going to be absolutely different now.
They're gonna be practicing.
They got their first game under the about they got the message, those, um maybe, um, players after that game because they were just absolutely getting destroyed.
BYU with that night was just absolutely on their game.
Okay, this is on second one second, one situation, so they had some good pressures right there.
But he had to throw the football away.
But he got a good reception right there on that screen pass, and that got another touchdown.
So that's how the game went.
Um, for Navy and BYU, that z Kate, or on that catch, I see young man right there.
So this is where they come in right here.
This is the circles.
This is where to come in.
So let's show you.
And they would throw a pass play and that would be a screen pass right there.
And the that would absolutely confused that.
Let's give you a play on here.
Let's give you this is on second one.
They would go into the end zone right there for a touchdown, and this is what happened.
Let's go into the Navy Place.
Let's give you the offensive place of Navy will give you an offensive player name.
Okay, this is the one of the run plays right here.
They had kind of reverse.
So those who have left and he would get it would get, um, some yards on that, but not much, so that was that was that was one of their place.
That kind of just, um, screwed up on right there.
It's a reverse play.
So it wasn't a perfectly theophilus of line in that game.
Was wasn't Block and so there was no way to get a first down, So there was just some trying plays.
It was just, um, not gonna work someone That's one of the place that didn't work right there for a navy and they will run to play.
This is another running defensive.
Um, um, follow up right here for Navy.
So and then the big big place right here.
This is a big first down catch, so against two Navy defenders.
So I'm looking at this.
I'm looking at this film right here, this team, and I'm gonna tell you.
Look, this is this is not was this This is wasn't that Navy team you always expect when it run the triple option and they go with the fallback dive and stuff like that? That wasn't that team.
I mean, it was just a totally different football team.
Uh, to be honest with you, so we'll go toe one more.
One more film session and we'll go through the one more play, and we'll just, uh, wrap it up and we'll give a stat breakdown.
This one's giving us one more play.
Give us a swan, it toe.
One of the plays will give you.
Okay, this is the play.
This is on Navy's, um, possessions right here.
This is on four for nine Navy possessing on the field gold situation.
So this is the 48 yard field goal they had to kick, so they just put it in.
So that was the only points that got out of it.
It was three points.
So okay, when you ****yze the States like I said, that was not much to talk about in the Navy offense on Lee, um, negative plays and defensive plays with just absolutely, um this absolutely getting destroyed.
So I won't get it this way.
If you could take huge opportunity to take advantage of Navy's, um, hardship in.
We could be okay.
This coming Saturday in your Miss Stadium.
So let's go ahead and give you the staff breakdown on them.
Let's go ahead and follow stats up.
I was began pulling up.
Break down for you So let me get that pulled up and I'll give you the and ****ysis on them.
Okay, Let's give you ****ysis.
Okay? Let's go ahead and give you the full ****ysis on the Navy midshipmen going into this game.
Put this up on the screen.
Okay? Coming in this week in your dis their average 42nd in the FPs and also fifth in the American Conference.
So, the averaging 120 yards a game, running the football, the averaging 119 yards a game that ranked fifth in the conference and 31st and, um, the F B s now in passing yards, they only average 1.0.
That's good for 42nd in the FBS and 15 the American Conference.
Um, they're last in the American Conference.
When it comes to points, there are only average three points a game, the 41st in the conference now on defense.
Aside giving a 580 yards last week against some, BYU said that right? 41st and also fifth coming into the conference this week.
Now on running the football, they gave up 301 yards.
That was against BYU in their first game.
So I'm gonna tell you if you can, um, take advantage of their like myself, their misfortunes.
You can, um, get a win in this game very easily.
Um, but it's not gonna be easy, because they're going to come in.
I want to win now.
They're averaging 279 yards a game.
That's 30 seconds in the FBS involved from the conference.
Also, uh, in points given up, they gave up 55 points last week, Right? 42nd and fifth in conference play.
So I look at it, this right one, they're not a good football team as advertised.
I mean, there was that performance last, Um, uh, last week on the seventh was absolutely a devastating one.
And it was just like I would say, there was just, like a middle school football team not ready to play football.
Um, so I look at it this way.
They're gonna be ready, primed and ready this week versus the Greenway this week.
So let's go ahead and give you the, um, Let's go ahead and give you their stat.
Four stats on the screen.
Total first downs.
The only the team only had seven first downs.
They average six on runs, one on past.
Now the defense gives up 28 1st downs.
The only, um, the average 15 or runs 12 on past.
So they give up 12 on past someone.
Apparently, he's now on third down efficiency.
Their third down efficiency wasn't as good.
They gave up 18% sent on offense and gave up 54% of defense.
There were six of 11 so there was two of 18 on offense and gave up six of 11.
So there wasn't a good defensively and offensively on fourth down conversions.
They only had over two.
And there were one.
Opponents were one for two.
Now, Um, they had 120 plays.
The other teams, uh, had 580 plays in the game, so they ran for 1 19.
That was on 39 runs.
But they are also gave up 49 runs and 301 yards.
Eso I'll be honest with you.
They gave up seven touchdowns, seven touchdowns, five on runs, two on passes.
So that that tells you the story about Navan, um, in the game versus, um Greenway this week.
So if you can come out with a better performance this week and gets Navy.
That would be a great idea we could do.
UH, we could move mountains.
So let's give you the two lane breakdown.
I'll give you two lane breakdown.
A swell, and it will wrap this up and let's go ahead and police up.
Police stats up.
Now pull down the two lane information.
Give it a chilling information from last week.
Okay, last week, too late at the first game.
We'll give you the stats on the screen for the Tulane Green Wave.
Um, and we'll talk about the defensive line.
In just a few moments.
I'll go over to the have the information on, and so we will go through that as well.
So, last week, Too late, um, had 22 1st downs.
Um, they had nine on runs, 11 on past.
9 runs, 11 passes on first downs? Uh, yes.
Last week we were one for 11.
So we got to be better when it comes toe third down Conversion.
Because if you stay on Bill long, that will prevent, um are the teams from getting on the field? So I think It's better if we stay on the field longer.
Um, on on the offense.
Now, in fourth down.
We went one for three last week and also one for two on defense.
Now, we gave up 374 yards last week.
We had 383 for our team.
So 383 yards, we had 71 plays to their 75.
We had 203 yards rushing.
That was on 40 carries.
So I'm hoping this will, um, stay, um, in a progressive manner.
Now we pass for, um, 180 yards.
We have were sacked one time.
Sochi on Howard is gonna have toe be cool under pressure, because I'm gonna tell you they're going.
They're going to bring, um, enormous pressure, and I mean enormous pressure.
I know what it can do.
I know I've been watching t on Howard, and I know what he could do.
He could run the football.
Hey, can he could just throw the ball.
He might not be a net adjusted McMellon, but hey, a t least we got we got a quarterback that can get out the pocket when necessary.
But that one sack was unnecessary.
Last week, it was officer behind deficiency.
Hopefully, our office of line can improve this week versus Navy because that the Navy is going to be, um, penetrating our offensive line.
So we have to prevent that from happening.
So that's just the biggest concern going into this week's game versus the Navy Midshipmen touchdowns.
We have four touchdowns.
Leslie four on the ground.
Through the air.
So, um, but I'm gonna tell you right now, we can come out of this game without any injuries.
Last week when we came out with zero injuries and I mean zero injuries automobile, I'm so I might have had a few nicks and bruises, but wasn't that bad.
So I'll be honest with you.
I look at this game this week and we we have We have a good opportunity to go to an hour.
I mean, what this This Navy teams right now is absolutely garbage right now, if you ask me, I think I'm like coach Um um Monta Monta mural says what? They are they sucking right now? I mean, they're they're on their on ball of time.
So we're gonna We're gonna have to be better this week.
We'll have to be better.
That game was absolutely a starting point for us.
It was a sloppy game.
But I'll be honest with you.
Um when push comes to sub, we're gonna be better.
We're going to be better also with the seven year contract of worldly French.
I think that's a great idea.
I'm glad we got, um, signed in through 2027 so he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
So I'm glad forward.
So I'm looking forward to seeing improvements out of this offense this week for two lane, Um um, in general, because love that South Alabama team that was a complete and utter buzz saw.
But it was it was slapping on both ends.
It was absolutely sloppy on both ends of the football for both South Alabama and two lane.
Now we got Navy now.
Navy is not I'm gonna say David won't run that triple option.
They had a fumble in that game against BYU when they when I saw it.
When I did that game that night, they was running the triple option.
They fumbled the football.
And that and that and that regular triple option can call can cause teams to put that ball on the ground.
So if we can, um, defend against that, that will help us.
That would help us in the long run.
So let's go over to the defensive line breakdown.
We'll give you a defensive line breakdown.
I'm gonna go ahead and give you that.
Go through my page.
I got it on my page.
I'll just some share it with you, and I will talk about it.
The two lane defensive line.
I'm gonna show you a picture of it.
I got it on the screen.
The team starts, Um, uh, coming out of bomb.
This is from pro football focus.
You can follow them with pro football focus that do college football as well.
Um, last week's past pass rush grade.
Um, they were ranked first in the FBS with 84.
2, so that is an excellent grade.
Also on, um, pass was, um, pressures.
It was first in the, uh, FBI.
So I liked what I saw out of the defensive line last Saturday, so I'm glad to see it, but, um, past worst win percentage. 78.0.
That was a percentage of 78.
0 2nd in the FBS.
Oh, I like that.
I'm glad to see that we had five sacks last week.
Third in the F B s, uh, two contributors was Cody, um, Cameron Samples and Patrick Johnson s.
So that's the two individuals that was the, um, cause of those five sacks last week versus, um, um, South Alabama.
So I am very happy what's going on with this, um, defensive line.
So I'm glad to see these grades improved, so I'm happy about that.
So if you're a two lane fan, I'm glad this will make you happy with these defensive line grays, but we're going to get better.
We got to clean up what we did last week into this week, going up against Navy because we make the same mistake twice.
That's what it will burn us.
So we have to be more careful going into this game.
So, um, I'm kind of leery about what's gonna happen this Saturday way will not witness it because we will all be not in the stadium, but we'll be watching on our TV s just coming Saturday, so we will beyond so once again when we wrap this up, I've been going at this for hours, 25 minutes.
