This is Ray route.
Welcome to the show. Here.
Live on SportsCastr and YouTube.
Thank you for tuning in here on this beautiful victory Monday.
I'm here obviously, to talk about my main topic.
Four takeaways from the Patriots win over the Dolphins.
I got some other stuff I wanna get off my chest that maybe I'll get into a little bit later on the show.
But for now, just going thio rap a little bit about what I saw against the Miami Dolphins yesterday.
Obviously, any day we start every Monday, that's a victory.
Monday is always a good day.
We're always gonna be excited.
And I was really impressed with a lot of things that we've seen on Sunday.
And I think what's exciting me the most is that this Patriots team is on Lee going to get better and better and better as it rolls along.
I'm very aware that the Patriots played the Miami Dolphins.
I'm very aware the Seattle Seahawks are gonna be a much harder and bigger test for the Patriots to take on next Sunday.
Russell Wilson played out of his mind against the Atlanta Falcons, completing like 88% of his passes and a bunch of those were drops.
But what I want to talk about right now is the Patriots.
I'll focus on Seattle little later on.
Right now, I want to talk about the four takeaways that I got and, you know, going back to last year I'm in the beginning of the season.
Started out well, but as the year went on, it got a lot more negative than it was positive.
I didn't take a whole lot of negatives out of yesterday's game.
I hope a lot of Patriot fans didn't neither, and I think my first take away that we got to stay is super Cam.
Newton is still the man eso impressed with what I saw it to him.
All those sort of questions that were being asked.
You know Ken Cam Newton fit with this offense.
Can the Patriots scheme with him? Can he still Ron? Does he still have the legs? Can he still play football? Obviously, the man can still play football, and look, I think the thing that excites me the most about that whole the whole Cam Newton situation, is that we're talking about a guy that this was his first game for the Patriots.
He didn't get a preseason like everybody else, but he didn't get a preseason.
He didn't have the opportunity to play with these players, which tells me that we didn't even see the best of this Patriots offense.
Every pass he made wasn't perfect.
If I was going to nit pick him a little bit, I guess I could say that a couple of his passes were too high, but he had some drops.
The score was deceiving.
Yesterday, when you're thinking about how it all sort of rolled out the 21 to 11 it very much could have been 28 to 11.
If Nikkila Harry doesn't fumble the ball.
If Nick Folk doesn't missed a kick, we're now talking like 30 to 11.
Cam Newton played really, really well.
I mean, he was the Patriots leading rusher yesterday.
Obviously, he was a leading passer.
He goes 15 for 1955 yards, doesn't throw a touchdown, takes a couple of sacks but doesn't throw an interception, doesn't fumble the ball, walks away with a quarterback rating of 100.
7, and then he rushes the ball 15 times for 75 yards, two rushing touchdowns.
All together, put up what puts up.
Let me do the math like one 125 all our 225 all purpose yards.
I mean, that's what you're gonna want.
At a Cam Newton led, the team, took charge, smiles on his face.
I think you've got to be excited it, man.
I mean, if this guy can stay healthy.
And of course, I know health is always the question around Cam Newton.
But if this guy can stay healthy, I'm feeling really, really good about Cam Newton going forward into this season.
Learning this offense.
Josh McDaniels learning him better, him learning his receivers better and going from there now.
The Patriots went with an extremely run heavy offense yesterday, just looking at the stats real quickly here.
123456 different players rushed the football yesterday.
You had obviously Sony.
Michelle, who I know only averaged 3.
7 yards per carry, but a couple of those were a couple of a couple of quick stuff with line.
I thought he ran very well.
Rex Burkhead ran the ball seven times.
James White ran the ball five times Julian Edelman had to carry.
And all of a sudden J.
Taylor, who people because of his 55 frame, thought maybe he couldn't be a power back in the NFL could have given the Patriots something to think about when Damian Harris is ready to come back to the Pats.
Unless for some reason, he's just really, really, unless Harris just really impressed the Patriots going forward.
I loved it, man.
What I really liked was the conservative approach by the Patriots in the first half.
Don't put Cam Newton under pressure.
Don't put them in situations where they can't succeed.
You had to have early success.
Run the football, gets Newton into the end zone, gets him a little bit fired up.
Then you come out in the second half and you start showing some things that maybe you weren't showing in the first half.
Start slinging the ball around a little bit more, started putting a little bit more of that pressure.
So I was really I was really happy with run attack.
Um, I know that some people were a little bit disappointed and Josh McDaniels game plan when he was into when he was going into that first quarter my first half of the game.
But I think that we need to look at it for what it was.
It was just play it safe.
The last thing you needed was Cam Newton to come out firing the ball, thrown, interception, get off to the wrong foot.
And now you're feeling all the pressure in the world.
Let's not forget now.
I mean, it was perfect conditions, no fans in the crowd or no fans in the stadium.
It's not like he could feel the pressure from the home crowd.
But let's not forget we're talking about the guy who had to come in and replace Tom Freaking Brady, right? That's not something that you can just do.
It's something that it takes a special person to be able to come out and do that kind of stuff.
Kim Dae So they played it safe, come out.
I thought it was a great game plan by McDaniels.
He really showed what he could do with Cam Newton, especially that second half some of those play action passes.
Um, I was really happy with that, really happy with the heavy run defense or heavy run game, and I mean, let's give it up to our defense.
Um, what did we hear this entire off season? Los Van Noy lost.
Roberts lost Jamie Collins.
You know, Hightower ops out because of co vid and the world's coming to an end.
The Patriots defense is going to be no good in 2020.
And then the Patriots come out and the defense looks phenomenal.
Granted, yes, they were in Miami.
I get the opponent I get.
You know, they're going up against fits, magic and all that kind of stuff.
But come on. Three interceptions.
Uh, I'm trying to see if they have total numbers are whack.
It tackles by the guys.
Juwan Williams has a hell of a game. J. C.
Jackson has a hell of a game.
Give it up for Jawan Bentley.
Three tackles on the day.
Stepped up really filled that gap.
Middle like high tower used to do.
Stopping the run attack of Miami, forcing them toe have to pass the football.
I mean, really, really just really saw the job all the way around.
Um, I think I saw on Pff today that like three of the Patriots cornerbacks were in the top five, and one of them wasn't even Stephon Gilmore.
It was, uh, Jonathan Jones was there.
Jackson, Juwan Williams, and I was just like three Patriots, and it's not even their best cornerback.
That's what we gotta look forward for this year.
My take away from this game was the Patriots defense is gonna be good this season.
And, yeah, I want to see him against better competition.
Absolutely, yes, but the Patriots defense is going to be just a good I love Chase win a ***** and how he was playing, uh, you know, more snaps and playing like an every down guy being really solid.
In that standpoint, it's It was everything I like.
Terrence Brooks had a hell of a game.
I mean, there was a lot of guys that I don't think we thought of when we were, you know, think of the New England Patriots of what they could do or who they had, who could come in.
Brandon Copeland made a couple of big plays and it was really in a lot of guys plays and you know what Adrian Phillips give it to him, Man.
Eight tackles on the day.
One interception like it's This is the kind of stuff that we need to now if we're gonna take a knock on the defense.
Obviously, the pass interference calls.
Those could be corrected.
Um, you, all of them were pretty good, and they did miss one in the end zone, which could have been, I think, the fourth of the game on the Patriots.
It was like pre season for everybody again.
When you look at this offense, you look at this defense.
It can Onley get better.
We started seeing the connection between the keel, Harry and and Cam Newton.
It's only going to get better as they keep going.
And I know there was a lot of hate on Tequila Harry for his fumble on the goal line yesterday.
Let's let's chill out a little bit.
All right, things happen.
The kid is again.
He's with a new quarterback. He's learning thing.
He receives five passes.
Adelman 57 yards on five passes.
James White gets his three Ryan ISO, who I was shocked, made this team gets his past and J.
Taylor received another ball only four yards.
But again, JJ tailor making a name for himself.
My fourth take away is the negative.
It's the negative of the day.
The Patriots still don't have a kicking game, and that's really disappointing.
Um, I think what's scarier is Nick Folk was picked because he was the more consistent of the two.
We'll probably see Ross Wasser or whatever the hell his name is.
Come up next week, I assume.
I mean, the conditions couldn't have been any better for Nick folk on that 45 yard kick kicking with the wind at his back.
No fans like that should have just been an easy, easy kick, and he pulls it right.
45 was too far, and I even loved the play to get there.
It's on third down instead of throwing the ball and trying to get a first down, which I believe they would have done with Tom Brady last season and would have forced him to kick a 51 if they don't make it, they run the ball with Birkhead.
He picks up six yards, makes it a 45 yard field goal.
Should be manageable, should be three points to be on the board.
It's We went from Adam Bennett, Terry to Stephen Gostkowski.
I just had consistent kicking across the board.
There was no Patriots fan out there harder on Stephen Gostkowski the last two seasons than me, and I've seen everything people write in the comments.
I saw the Twitter comments.
I'm usually Mr Positivity.
Nobody was harder on Stephen Gutowski than me Right now.
I'd give my left arm and my two Children for Stephen Gostkowski back on the team.
You know, it's that's that's how if I see the Patriots lose a big game because of three points because of a missed field goal and missed extra point, whatever it may be, I'm gonna be really, really disappointed.
I assume that everybody else will, too.
That's, you know, and I don't want to just focus on the negative because you had a solid outing by Newt and you had a solid run game.
The defense looks spectacular, but this kicking game needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed like last week.
The moment I saw Nick Folk sign and went back to camp, I got really, really nervous.
I know Belichick likes kicking competition, so I was hoping that's why he was coming in.
But, Dude, you can't hit a 45 yarder with the wind at your back.
You can't hear the 45 yarder on a perfect snap, a perfect hold down the middle of the field.
All you gotta do is hit it straight, and he didn't get it.
And, you know, last year when there was missed kicks, my hands were in the air.
I was flustered.
He kicked and missed it.
I just I saw coming before the even the balls even snapped.
I sat there and said, It's not gonna happen.
The kick is not going to go through.
So, man Belichick needs to address that.
So that's my four takeaways for this game.
Yes, I don't really have much more to say.
I love a victory Monday, I think regardless, even if Jared Stidham was the starting quarterback, the Patriots probably would have beat the Miami Dolphins.
Let's not get too carried away, but, like I said, the Patriots can only get better.
I do need to address something, though.
This ain't on Twitter, but it's on Facebook, and I'm not a big Facebook user, but I used to be like a part of a lot of those, you know, Patriots Facebook fan pages.
I've opted out of most of them, but I still stay on the New England Patriots page just because, like, news pops up on there, and that's the only reason I keep it.
But I started reading the comments, man in the vial from the demographic in Facebook.
The vile, toxic attitude they have towards Cam Newton really ****es me off.
And I know that, like sa***e Boston on Twitter, trying to tell me like I'm just trying to start up stuff.
So I posted a bunch of comments on this page.
Uh, like I just a screenshot.
A bunch of comments like just absolutely sickens me, man.
I don't know what the obsession.
Well, I mean, we know what it iss.
I don't have to say what it is.
We all know what it is, especially coming from where it's coming from.
People need to grow up like people need to.
A lot of things need to change.
I'm thrilled, man.
Like the moment they signed Cam Newton, I talked.
I said that Cam Newton was my quarterback.
Super camp form.
I mean, former M v P.
Heisman Trophy winner I I've listed off his accomplishments at least 50 times since they signed the kid.
Um, you know, people who aren't happy with him, Like, just get the f out of here.
Honest to God, Like, just get the f out for, like, just just move on with your life.
Um, because I'm backing him, man, I'm back in.
The Patriots are backing Cam Newton.
I'm not cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Tom Obey.
Gronke nears whatever you wanna call them.
Uh, was I basking in the in the fact that the patriots or want to know in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Oh, in one, you're **** right I am.
I'm still bitter about Tom Brady leaving.
I'm not upset of Bill Belichick about it.
I don't care how you feel.
I don't know why you care about how I feel, but for some reason, some of you dio um Yeah, man.
I'm thrilled that the patriots who want to know in Tampa Bay is Owen one.
And you know, I get Look, there's no disrespect to Tom Brady Man, 20 years with the Team.
Nine Super Bowl six championships, the plethora of a F C Championships, All Pro season 16 and oh, seasons.
Record breaking Super Bowls, Heartbreaking losses.
Everything we were saying.
It's no disrespect for Tom Brady.
It's why is signed.
Jersey stays on my wall, all right.
I'm always gonna have mad love for Tom Brady, but I'm better.
I'm like a bitter ex right now.
I'll get over it eventually when he retires, I'll gladly welcome him back to the family.
But right now, as far as I'm concerned, Tom Brady and a part of the family Tom Brady is the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I now hate the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But you know, this whole thing with Bruce Arians comes out right, and I I took some stuff here on Twitter today just because, you know, I use Twitter.
Thio sort of gauge how people are feeling about things and where it's going.
So I book market tweet Here, let me let me pull this up for you.
And then I screenshot at some responses that so Bruce Arians said, quote this is coach Bruce Arians on Tom Brady, needing to bounce back for his Carolina quote.
He's had it before.
I mean, he knows how to bounce back.
He knew he didn't play very well.
It's not what we expect from himself, nor it's not what he expects with Sub.
Nor would I expect from him.
Ah, I expect him to have a little bit more grit, a little more determination this week.
That's what Bruce Arians said about Tom Brady.
He also blamed Brady for those interceptions.
I think you're attracted one and said one was Evans fault.
But, you know, he called radio publicly, something he's never done before now, unfortunately, unfortunately, because of what I call New England Brady fans, not New England.
Page seven New England Brady fans.
People put me in a position that I have to feel a certain way towards the guy who I've been a fan of since I was 15 14 years old.
I'm 34 years old now, so we're talking 20 years, but putting me in a position where I got to do things that sounds like I'm slagging on a guy that I really don't want to slag on.
But I spent this off season listening to the dribble that Tom Brady is solely responsible for the Patriots success.
Bill Belichick has ruined the dynasty.
If if not for Tom Brady, the Patriots would have won a single Super Bowl under Bill Belichick.
Even though I camera who it was, I think was Ty Law, who just came onto the Patriots, would have won the Super Bowl under Drew Brees or Drew Bledsoe that year.
But basically that Brady was the system.
Belichick had nothing to do with it.
I've always stood under the stance of Brady made Belichick.
Belichick made Brady.
You can't have one without the other toe have this run and dynasty that they had in New England.
I give equal credit across the board with Mr Kraft floating on top, keeping that nucleus together for so long.
Here's some of the response that I saw today.
Bruce Arians can blame anyone he wants, but if they play unorganized, undisciplined ball like that again, they'll struggle.
Jumping offsides, false starts, special team blunders, etcetera.
No braiding receivers didn't play well at all, but they were also outcoached.
A response back and these are all Patriots fans.
By the way, these aren't like box fans or anybody's air Patriots fans.
Patriots fan response back exactly the crap coaching is what sucked out the most very undisciplined team from watching Brady here for 20 years now they're all I could think of was, Wow.
The coaching difference is ridiculous.
Just play smart, disciplined, situational football, and the team will thrive.
Arians this another guy Arians does not know the right way to say Our Arians does not have the right to say that about Tom Brady.
After one week, another Patriots fan says, Wow, I thought that Arians was a good coach.
My God, the Glazers should sit airings down and tell him to shut up.
I thought this could be a good fit, but now I'm thinking Arians isn't ready for this.
Jeez, that's like four times He's throwing him under the bus.
Shut up and help him get better.
Hey, have Bruce Arians.
How about you read the story about Brady's thumb in the A.
C title game? A whole Anyways, why do I read this to you? Because how could Tom Brady be solely responsible for every Patriots victory.
Like basically, he didn't need Belichick.
He doesn't need a coach.
How can he be solely responsible to that? But when he loses his first game with the Buccaneers, Bruce Arians fault.
You know what that pick six is 1000% on Tom Brady.
He didn't have the arm strength to get it out to the sides of the fields.
I was talking about that in 2018 and 2019 that Brady's arm strength going wide isn't there anymore.
Brady can fire it down the fields, but to hit a guy fast and hard out on the sticks.
You're making me slag on a guy I don't want to slag on.
But the hypocrisy of it's all built are all Tom Brady in New England.
When they win and when they lose the Tampa Bay, it's all Bruce areas.
You can't have it one way or the other, either.
It's Tom Brady's fault that they want.
It's Tom Brady's fault that they lost.
But how could people sit there and slag on Bill Belichick the entire off season and say he needed Tom Brady? Tom Brady? Brady is the sole reason sole reason Now there's some smart people out there that I think, believe or think like me and are smart enough to understand that you need both in order to have success.
What kills me is there was more Patriots fans tweeting about Tom Freaking Brady and Bruce Arians today than Tampa Bay fans.
Let's focus on our quarterback because next week Cam Newton is gonna travel to Seattle with the rest of his teammates are gonna take on the Seattle Seahawks.
We're gonna take our Russell Wilson, who is just look like a freak of nature against the Atlanta Falcons Here.
I waas thing in our Seattle's band.
Their fans thank God home field advantage no longer exists.
Obviously Seattle is a it better team.
Russell Wilson goes 31 for 35 3 22 4 touchdowns.
Rushed the ball three times.
I believe I was told today that every every pass he didn't complete and I could be wrong.
I haven't watched the game yet.
I got two games that I have dr watching.
It's the Washington game in the Seattle game, but I was told today that I think like every past he didn't make, was a drop past.
What kills me is is he also led the team in rushing with 29 rushes.
That's what absolutely killed me with 29 yards.
I mean 29 yards.
He led the team in rushing yards.
I mean, he looked amazing.
Not 1 100 yard receiver on the game Close.
Tyler Lockett, 92 d K.
Chris Carson ended up with 45.
It's gonna be a tough game for the Patriots.
The Patriots are gonna be tested against that, that offense.
And as this week goes on, I'm gonna get deeper and deeper into, you know, probably on Thursday with Connor.
We'll get into How do you go in and win in Seattle? It's gonna be tough.
It's just my early look at the game, but it's gonna be a tough, tough game.
But I think that this Patriots defense is up to the test, and from the little I saw from some of the replays and that kind of thing, there's an opportunity to run the football.
Todd Gurley at 56 yards rushing, Brian Hill had 12 yards.
There's some opportunities to run the football.
There's some opportunities to throw the football.
Matt Ryan put up 450 yards against Seattle Seahawks.
Julio Jones had 157 yards, Russell Gauge had 114 Calvin Ridley had 130.
Yes, Julio, the Patriots don't have a Julio Jones or Calvin Ridley.
I completely understand them.
Why they have a Russell Gauge.
We still got Julian Edelman.
We didn't see the mere Bird get too involved in the game.
There's like and the Patriots offense is still improving.
You can't expect Russell Wilson.
I hope you can't expect Russell Wilson to just play historical football every single game.
We'll get deeper to that As this week goes on.
Today was just a little a little touch upon it.
I will be back tomorrow at 9 p.
m. Eastern time with my boy Connor Carney.
That's it for today, guys.
