Steve, where did you want to start in tonight's ballgame? Well, I want to say it, Uh, congratulations.
First of all, to coach for its and the staff and I e.
I think they really did some outstanding things at halftime, made some adjustments and, uh, you know, they took him a while to wake up, but they finally woke up the defensive front, came a life and, you know, being down 24 to 6, it was pretty easy to just kind of really get dejected, and you lost all the momentum, but they didn't do that So you gotta credit Coach Fritton and the players for not not giving up does look like we're gonna jump on with one of our players of the game here right now.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe we've got Cam sample.
Is that correct? We have camp sample down there.
All right, Cam, it's Andrew.
Alec right here in the booth with Steve Barrios.
First off, how did you guys get this one done? Because in the first half, it was challenging.
You guys hit your stride in the second half.
Where did you start as a key to victory here tonight? Um, you know, just being resilient.
You know, Coach free stretch as a four quarter game.
You know, we didn't get to start with one in the first half, but proud of this team.
We were immature team, you know, we found a way to get done the second half.
What were the keys to finally being able to get some pressure on the quarterback? Lumberton specifically in that second half, I think you had to *** specifically in the second half.
How did you guys? What adjustments did you have to make if any? Um, yeah, I mean, we thought we had good pressure in the first time.
We just didn't hit home.
So we just knew what we kept, Uh, the line.
We kept trusting our keys and linebacker, but we kept playing hard.
We knew it was going to get back to him eventually.
Was there a moment when you finally started to see the confidence grow? Um, you know, it might not look like it, but we kind of have faith the whole time.
But, you know, I think when often started getting rolling in the second half, you know, that's really when you saw the sideline start getting energy.
What sort of challenges it going from Trotter as the starting quarterback.
I know you guys prepped for lumber, Titch, but he plays a lot of the steps here tonight.
What sort of challenge and change was that? Yeah.
You know, we were prepared for the other quarterback.
He was more of a runner.
You know, this quarterback was more of a, you know, standing pocket passer.
So once you realize that we just made the adjustment, said we knew they were gonna hold the ball.
So we thought we could get after him.
How did you feel tonight specifically? Because Coach Curtis talked about your conditioning coming into 2020 and feeling like you could play a lot more snaps.
How did you feel after one game? Yeah.
You know, I felt good man condition whilst I felt good.
You know, just, you know, this is our first game is probably gonna be the hardest when, you know, just getting our standing up.
You know, I felt pretty good going in.
I'm all season. Uh, Cam sample.
Thank you so much for your time.
Anything else? You know what? Before I let you go as you watch the offense, I do want to get your thoughts.
Because I know you guys have a lot of confidence in key on Howard and Taj Spears makes a splash here tonight.
What did you enjoy about watching this version of Tulane's offense from the sideline? Um, I'll say just the leadership in the unity.
I feel like you know what more of a team this year.
So even you know, we had some fun.
Most things were going our way.
Often said, you know, defense.
We're gonna pick it up.
We got you Tajae kept running hard.
Cheon kept leading, and I think those guys really fell back on their followed.
Their leadership just pushed us to Victory camp Sample.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate Congratulations.
Got you. Appreciate it.
Alright, so we'll get head Coach Willie Fritz in just a second.
But, Steve, I guess your thoughts on what can was talking about because that that was something we highlighted.
At halftime, the defensive line had to get home.
They were struggling to maintain their gaps.
All of those sort of things.
And camp sample stepped up.
Yeah, I think you made a good point.
He said that when Trotter was in there, they felt that he was a much better runner. Okay.
And I think that may be held them back a little bit from doing it all out. Rush.
They make the switch, Lumberton Titch comes in and they kind of felt that he wasn't as good as a runner.
So they just pin your ears back and got the job done.
Brushed him really well.
It does look like Willie Fritz is talking with the media.
And in our socially distance world, he's on the field.
The media is in the stand shooting so well, let him finish up.
That will take a quick break.
And then we'll talk with head coach Willie Fritz in just a moment.

It's time to reel in the catch of the game presented by Mandeville Seafood.
Fresh Seafood Local culture Go see Jerry today.
Yeah, welcome back here to South Alabama on the campus of Andrew Autocratic here with Steve Barry Osti I'm Annabelle Seafood.
Catch of the game.
Look, this was mostly a rushing attack for Tulane, but I think if you go through it the best offensive place through the air Jaquan Jackson made some huge catches.
A software out of handle high school connecting with, ah, guy that he's developed a great relationship with Cheon Howard.
Uh, that was your catch up the game late in that fourth quarter, they found some big connections.
Yeah, it was actually two catches back to back to back, which resulted in two first downs.
So, Mr Jackson is our Mandeville Seafood catch of the game.
Go see Jerry today.
I think I'll celebrate with ah, shrimp po'boy up in his shop, aren't they? They're the best. Yeah, they're not bad.
They're the best.
All right, so we're waiting on head coach Willie Francis.
He wraps up with the local media, which is great to see the New Orleans crew make the trip to Mobile to cover this ball game, which finishes as a 27 24 victory.
Tulane over South Alabama.
To line is one note to start this season.
On the flip side, South Alabama goes to one and one.
We talked about the defensive line, Steve, as we wait for coach.
But the rushing attack, it just feels like every time to lame gets in a whole least in the past year or so It says, Go back to the rushing attack.
And they did that specifically in the second half. Second quarter.
Taj Spears, I I like this so much recognition.
Yeah, he had some phenomenal runs, you know. Tackles.
You get to the outside.
You must be 100 and 91 rushing.
T J Spears had one 105 of those s o outstanding effort.
Again, it goes back to the offensive line also, Andrew, those guys really came to life in the second half when they needed to and opened up some holes and and gave Howard time to throw the foot.
I don't think I'm trying to find it specifically, but there was one drive that I really think changed everything for too late.
It was that play 75 yard drive, four rushes.
They get a touchdown out of it.
It didn't necessarily spur them to victory.
Certainly established the fact that if you're gonna win the football game.
You got to run the football with Taj Spears, Camp Carroll and make something happen on the ground.
You know, that's when, uh, South Alabama went up seven nothing with 10 51 to play in the second quarter, which was the first score of the football game.
But then two Lane came right back.
They went as you said, 75 yards on four plays, but basically they were running four running plays.
Camp Carroll went in from six yards out.
Extra point was missed, but at that point it was 76 But that lead us.
Know that Doolin could run the football? Yes, against a team that did a great job against Southern.
Miss held the Eagles to negative 10 yards on the ground in the first quarter and held them during the game to 2.
2 yards total per carry.
It's a good South Alabama front, Willy Fritsch said.
Leading up to this week that he thought it was an A C type front.
It showed it early on and then they figured it out.
I'll ask Coach Fritz this question, but to you, Steve um, Taj Spears, what about his performance right he was electric.
Hey was a big play machine.
We heard about him, but from your eyes, what was? What was different about seeing him get the bulk of the carries and why he was so electrifying.
Well, I think he has, Ah, lot of things going for him.
Number one, He's got the great speed, but he can also run inside.
He's got power and and what you know, to be a great back.
You have to have good vision and he's got outstanding vision.
He sees the field.
He sees what's happening in front of him.
He knows when to go in when they go out, when to make that burst, that cut.
So he's got it all.
And also I think he's a great receiver.
He could make some plays happened coming out of the backfield.
I think it's sort of what you just said.
But to echo it, some of his big runs came through the tackle right.
It's easy for a young running back to bounce it outside and try to use the speed. He waited.
He had patients.
He saw the A gap for the big gap and then exploded Exactly, and that's that's what I mean by vision. Okay.
Back has good vision.
And he So we saw him do that.
Kind of just maybe pick or hesitate for that second for that opening and then right through it.
Let's talk about Cheon Howard as well as we wait for head coach Willie friends to come talk with us.
Uh, first start for Cheon Howard as a member of the Green Way.
If you played notable minutes against UConn last year, played notable minutes against Missouri State.
He had his moments, but this is his team.
What jumped out to you about his performance here tonight? Well, I think number one who he was poised Yeah.
I mean, he really didn't get rattled, you know? He had that little miscue in the first quarter where he went back to throw in the ball, just slipped out of his hands, and that could happen.
But that didn't get him rattled.
He stayed consistent, showed his mastery of the offense, got out of someplace when he needed to went through.
So I'm go through his progressions quite often in this football game, you know, to find the right right receiver and man it's throws.
I thought his throws. One of money.
Yeah, he had three or four drops tonight, which could have been, uh, you know, it's easy to get down on your receivers, but he didn't do that.
He also found the one he was comfortable with.
Two right? He kind of went through it.
Maybe it's Mike Jones.
Maybe it's gonna be fat Watts.
Maybe it's a running back, but eventually he settles in on Daquan Jackson here tonight.
The final numbers for Cheon Howard in his first start.
14 for 3100 and 91 guards.
He does not throw a touchdown.
He does rush for one, but something else that he did tonight.
Absent the first Siris was ultimately settled in and took care of the football, right? He did not throw an interception.
Correct, which was huge in this ballgame.
And look, I'm not gonna necessarily Barry.
One quarterback versus another, Justin McMillan was electric.
Hey, could make big plays, but he was at times a liability.
It doesn't look like and we'll see how it develops.
But stability might be the word from Cheon.
Yeah, yeah, very, very steady.
And again this goes with with coach Hall and coach Fritz said about his mastery of the playbook.
He understands the offense.
He knows what to do.
He knows where to go with the football, you know? And also we saw some of his running ability, which I think we're gonna Seymour of that as the season progresses.
Alright, so head coach Willie Fritz is jumping on the headset here.
We've got the opportunity to talk with him after a 27 24 victory.
First off Willy, are you able to hear me down on the sideline there? Yeah, I can hear you.
Can you guys hear? May I can hear your chest.
Great. First off, congratulations.
What jumps out to you in this victory? All of the struggles that eventually the comeback.
What's the top headline for you as a head coach? You know, it's it's great to learn lessons from a W rather than from Anel.
You know, I was hard on the kids when I came in the locker room, you know, because, uh, you know, it was just a It's a different situation when you go out there and play a game and everybody has got to be pulling the same direction.
You know, all the time, You know, from beginning of the game till the end of the game.
And, uh, you know, just thank goodness that we had a bunch of kids and just kept believing and didn't look good there for a while, you know? And then the guys just kept fighting and scratching and clawing.
And but we feel like we could play a lot better than what we did.
I was You know, I blame myself.
I wish I would have scrimmage, you know, in in the first half, I was thinking to myself, Gosh, darn it, You know, we did a couple of weeks ago.
Two weeks ago Saturday, we went, I think we went 87 plays live, and it was good a good experience for us.
But I got five or six guys banged up, and we weren't able to practice that whole next week.
And I just thought, you know better.
Just back off on and we do a lot of scrimmaging.
We just don't tackle the ground.
And that makes it totally different.
When the, you know, we had a couple of fumbles where we barely got hit you know, And you know, when we emphasize the heck out of all security in practice every single day, So but there's nothing like playing a real ball game.
Nothing like it.
Coach, I guess you kind of beat me to the punch here.
But one of the topics is always gonna be lessons learnt being a head coach in this particular environment environment amidst a covert 19 pandemic.
Outside of wishing you had scrimmaged.
Are there any other lessons you felt like you learned here tonight that you could take into next week against Navy? You know, early in the season to, you know, we had some guys kind of in and out, you know, we had some contact tracing guys who weren't able toe practice with us for an extended period of time.
And, you know, it kind of hurts your depth.
We had a couple guys just show up yesterday.
You know, they finally got out of the contact tracing and came out and shoot it up, playing the ball game, you know, and been a sitting in a hotel for two weeks, you know? So it's just difficult, you know, in those situations, I gotta do a better job with, you know, getting some of my starters out in some phases of the kicking game.
You know, in on offense and defense.
I just got to give a give a good chance toe some of these freshman, you know, and because you're gonna have to have a lot of guys play this year, you know, we've been fortunate with testing and, you know, our our slogan is hashtag, you know, stay positive, test negative.
And we've done a pretty good job of that, you know? But, you know, it's it's just tough.
It's just a you know, it's just a different deal.
Every every night I'm holding my breath, you know, waiting for the results and all those kind of different things.
So it's just, uh I need to need to play a few more guys so that we're you know, that we're so we're a little deeper because, you know, in a moment's notice that could change.
At 7 30 in the third quarter, South Alabama goes up 24 to 6.
They kick off, kick off, and then I thought the thing that's kind of sparked, the whole team was a Marie Jones return of that kick off to the 40 yard line.
But then, when he really punished the tackler, knocking this helmet all, I think that really juice to team up.
Oh, he's a tough competitors now And he did It.
Had a great power return later in the game on that final drive as well.
That could put us a nice field position.
He's he's dynamic football player, and you know he's competitive.
He enjoys these kind of situations, and some people just think he's a, you know, a receiver back, a flashy kind of guy.
But he's a tough, hard nosed, competitive guys.
Well, which is, you know what you gotta have out of a out of a playmaker.
So, yeah, that was that was a big play over on their side line.
A couple of guys that I want to talk about, coach, uh, specifically hard to not talk about Cheon Howard and his performance here tonight 14 for 31 91.
I know it's not just about the quarterback, but how do you sit back and evaluate his first start? Well, I think it was just a big time experience for Cheon.
You know, he he hasn't played a meaningful game in a long time, you know, since he's just Southern Miss.
And I I thought he got better and better as the game progressed.
I'm sure there's, uh, you know, the ones that he wants to get back is you know, those gimme throws, those ones where the guys wide open, you just gotta hit him, you know? And he missed a couple of those and they also had a few drops.
There's a few that he hit guys and, you know, they catch those were moving the sticks and we're continuing play football, you know? So that's that.
That's big time experience for him, you know? And I thought he got better as the game progressed.
What you see is a coach that allowed the defensive line to finally get home in the second half.
Well, you know, they got him in some long yardage situations.
And, uh, you know, obviously that last Siri's really the last two Siri's that they had the ball.
We knew they were They're gonna throw it so you can pin your ears back and in kind of time, up the snap count with, you know, Now you're going when he collapsed.
You know, we're for about it being a second collapse.
So I thought Cam did a nice job timing up the rush.
Patrick knows, um, is a good stuff rushing at the end, getting guys out of bounds, tackling better.
You know, it's this gonna be a big time learning experience for us watching this tape, Coach.
It looks like the team came out relatively healthy.
Yeah, I think so.
You know, it was, uh, you know, it was it was a tough, hard nosed game is just, You know, there's some big hits out there, but I think we're in pretty good shape, you know? Now, now the rial season begins.
You know, you got seven day rotation now, and you gotta gotta get get ready in seven days and answer the bell and all those kind of things.
All right, Coach, I've got two questions left for you, and we'll see if I can pull this off effectively.
Uh, first one Taj is just asking to I'm just asking to I'm just asking to We'll see.
She told us for forever that he was a special young, dynamic talent.
Uh, we enjoyed watching him run out there.
Is this the Taj that you expected? And how much even more ceiling do you see from a guy like Tajae? He's gonna be a great player force, you know, He's just, uh you know, he is highly competitive.
He practices like that every day.
He's one of the best practiced playing guys we got called his, uh, texted his, uh, high school coach.
You're just the other day, Hank tyranny.
And you told them, You know, this guy is just a phenomenal practice guy, you know, and it finishes runs every day in practice, and it's the same thing for him is a great experience for him, you know, setting up cuts.
There's a couple.
There's about three or four runs he wishes he had back, you know, because he he just you know, he went out instead of in and all that stuff.
But it just reps, you know, with real bodies flying.
And, you know, we talked about C two split to just running the sprint and accelerating through two would be tacklers when he got a little bit of space in between.
He's a great football player.
There's no doubt about it.
He's gonna be a You know, I I really feel like he'll be a top back in the country, and I think he's got that kind of talent.
Alright, so I do wanna finish off on a growth point, and I'm curious.
Your evaluation of this right there did seem to be at times difficult matchups, specifically, with Tolbert getting matched up with Kyle Myers, who appeared to struggle at times tonight.
How much is that? Whether it's Kyle or whether it's the entire defensive backfield unit learning each other or the fact that the defensive line did struggle to get home in the first half? It's both.
It's combination, you know.
You gotta have pressure, you know, sometimes corners get beaten and then nobody notices it because you got the quarterback got sacked, you know, And then other times you got great coverage and you know, the quarterbacks back there patting the ball 20 times, you know, So it's a combination of the two.
Uh, those receivers were really good.
I'm saying all week that you know that people are asking me and I said, Hey, I think they've got to high level receivers, you know, with the, uh, hold the everybody's, uh, running the old back shoulder fate and the fate to the corner.
I mean, it just is it's one of the hardest things.
Toe to replicate in practice is a defense it back.
He's got a pack turned to the quarterback, and the receiver has got his eyes on the quarterback.
He's got all the advantages, and it really takes his special guy that to make those plays.
I thought jail Inman role held his own in there.
And then we put Jalen on number eight.
You know, the whole second half.
He traveled with that guy and I thought he minimized his effectiveness.
Jack got in a few different coverages, You know, where they, you know, wanted to try to throw the fade out there.
And, you know, we had it doubled eso we had to adjust.
Uh, you know, and again, it's a different.
You know, those guys were out there doing with some real stuff real coverage, real game s so that it will be a good learning experience for them as well.
Coach, Thank you so much for your time.
Congratulations on the picture.
You could have that microphone to our friend Pierce.
Real wave big Thank you to head coach Willie Fritz again.

He's talking with the media right now. If we can, we will.
If we can't, we'll have to jump off so he can kind of get a move on with this post game show.
But, Steve, like, got you here.
Let's get a funnel couple of thoughts.
Uh, just overall in a game like this, uh, considering the cir***stances, considering the world that we operate in on considering the fact that two lane was able to make a huge comeback What? What really grabs your attention or what oppresses you about this squad starting off 2020 this way? Well, I think the big thing is that they didn't quit.
I mean, you get down 24 to 6 with 7.
30 to play in the third quarter.
Thio get disgusted.
It's easier to start pointing fingers on the sideline, but they didn't have any of that.
Uh, got to give credit to the coaching staff coach Willie Fritz and his staff for keeping everybody together.
And you've got to give credit to the players themselves for not, you know, starting to point fingers and believing in themselves they could come back and win this football game.
Let's advance a little bit to Navy.
I know we've not gone through and studied the mids, but we know what happened to them against B Y que Aziz.
You saw the schedule laid out.
And Steve, we talked about what 2020 would look like and wins that two lanes.
You try to get this, That the other thing.
All of a sudden it's a noon kickoff.
Central time on ABC for two.
Lane vs Navy next week.
Man, the opportunity is there against a team that got torched by BYU to make another statement and build the confidence.
But the first thing I'm going to say is that the Navy team that was destroyed by BYU is not gonna be the same Navy team that comes to your home and stadium, right? They've got a game under their belt.
Plus, now they have two weeks to prepare for two lane, and they've also tackled.
Yeah, so that's what I'm saying.
They've they know what they know what it's like now to get out there in a reald game.
And they did get embarrassed but that's simply because they, their practice regiment, was totally different.
They did not hit it all.
They did not scrimmage, which their head coach.
That was a total missed aches and it showed.
But so the Navy team we saw last week is not going to be the same one.
It's going to show up next week against two Lane.
It's a different Navy team again.
Just overall, though, Steve Malcolm Perry is gone.
He is a guy that just gave Tulane fits.
UH, they still have some of their key pieces, like Carothers, who had a couple of touchdown Russia's last year against Tulane.
But when you don't have that guy, that quarterback in the Navy offense, you could understand why they struggled out of the gates.
That guy is so important to that style of team.
Yeah, it really is.
You have to have a guy that can run the option and have the ability to run the option, but also have the physical ability in the speed.
You know that Malcolm Perry had he's He's like a one of a million guy, so to replace him is gonna be hard for them.
But again, two lane just you know, when they put that film on against BYU, that's not gonna be the same team that shows up next week.
All right, so our last player conversation here of the evening Steve, thanks so much Is Cheon Howard first off? Can you hear me down there? Yes, sir, I can hear you.
Congratulations on the victory.
How would you assess yourself in your first game? Is Q B one for too late.
Um, still got a lot of work to do.
Um, I'm grateful for the win, but tomorrow I gotta go in.
Tonight when I get back, watch the film, learn from my mistakes and learn from the correct 50 correction of my mistakes and go forward.
Um, turn the page to next week.
Starting tomorrow, I thought, watch film.
Turn the page for it.
Looking for a navy? Look.
That wasn't even though I think most people who watched tonight's game would say that you turn the page pretty well anyway because of the way that the game started.
Take me back to that fumble.
What was in your head? What? The coaches on the sideline were able to tell you to turn the page.
Like you said, Just short term memories.
You know, I try to have a neutral mindset talking to my mental coach, just having a neutral mindset in there In any any type of setting, any type of moment of the game.
Just stay just a level head and, um, keep on going.
You know, you gotta next drive.
You know, you got another opportunity to come out and execute that you quit the place.
So that's what I did and, you know, kept the main thing.
You looked poised to all of us up here in the booth.
Would you have considered yourself poised? Because really, Fritz made the point.
You haven't played quote unquote meaningful football in quite some time, but you look like a quarterback.
Tow us. Uh, that certainly had.
Um, you know the preparation I put in with Coach Harland? Coach Fritz, uh, they prepared me the right way to go out tonight to have confident online myself, but also in my teammates, you know, And that was the most important thing to have confidence and everybody around me to know that we're gonna do our job to the best of our ability, you know? And that would make me more comfortable.
Because the preparation I put in with Coach Harlan, coach trips and my teammates around me second half was different for you guys.
The obvious question becomes what was said at halftime, you know, just go out.
You know, just shooting ourselves in the foot the whole first half and just be able to just settle in.
Uh, defense is gonna make a stop.
We knew that, uh, come out the second half.
Take one play at the time, you know, and let the dice roll.
If they were gonna roll at the end for you as a starting quarterback here tonight, one thing that we saw.
And it's always gonna be this way with Will, halls, offenses, you're gonna have a diversity of target.
You're gonna throw to a bunch of different people.
But you made your way through the progression At times there was some drops Cheon out there first off.
How much of a challenge is that for a quarterback? And second, Did you feel like you started to find something with Laquan Jackson? I know how much you guys communicate throughout the course.
of the off season and during the season? Uh, no, sir, not really.
You know, I just had to get the ball to them.
You always had to get in a groove for everything.
I think the most biggest point way could take away from this is, you know, and and the close in the clutch moment, we was able to get to come together, jail together and get the job done.
So I think I think way could take this, um, the last couple of minutes of the game and be ableto have them.
Oh, mental roll over to next week, um, practices in next week.
Uh, people have been telling us about Taj Spears.
What was your most favorite thing about watching Tajae run tonight? You know, Tajae, ever since he's still foot on campus, you know, he had a special spirit around him, Uh, enemas well, and And he you know, he puts himself hard.
He puts the people around him even harder, uh, to be the best they could be each and every day.
And, man just just been able to see him, you know, go out and do what he loved to do to the highest potential itself.
I would really happy with him, but not not only him, but also to run up every running back that played in like Cam Mari Hood.
You know, everybody played, played a tremendous part and a big part of this game and his win.
And like, last couple questions for you.
Cheon, tell me about the game winning touchdown.
What, you guys true up? Why, you decided to go with that? I guess it was a delayed a handoff to him already for 16 yards.
Walk us at that moment.
That got the way of the victory.
You know, it was it was Ah, good.
Good car by coach are first and foremost.
Hey, knew what he knew that exactly what? The difference we're gonna run and get into.
And, you know, we just went out and read the nickel.
The Nichols sat right there flatfooted.
You know, I just trust my read Kochar men Coach.
I went through all week long.
Uh, trust my read.
And when the nickel flatfooted, I gave the ball tomorrow and set up for fake for the past fake and tomorrow with a great with a great vision of of the gap in the hole, seen it, increased it in on the and when it went in the end zone.
And I really get my hats off to the old lineman for open up the whole for us, for to be able to go out and to be able to score their last home.
Um, the last touchdown, The old line played really, really, really well tonight, you know, and I'm just getting my hat's off to them as well. Last question.
The opportunity you have in front of you.
Look, it's really in the season, but you've got yourself a nationally televised ABC game against Navy.
Next week at 11 o'clock, you wish the stadium could be rocking, but that has got to get your heart rate excited.
The opportunity you now have is Q B one.
In a moment like this, this is what you've been waiting for.
Yeah, I think it's a It's a great now in a great moment for myself, but for my for our program are my teammates, my coaches and everybody.
You know, I think this is a great opportunity for us to be able to actually show, you know, everybody.
Now you know what Tulane really about.
Now you know who were going from good to great.
And it's our great opportunity for us to be able to show, you know, the world how great two lane has become.
Keyon, thank you so much for your time.
Congratulations on the victory.
You can hand that microphone to our friend Pierce over there again.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate it. Yes, sir. Thank you so much.
Royal Wei Kiat Howard Uh q B one against the victory here tonight.
Fun to hear him talk.
Final thoughts from you, Steve.
As we wrap things up, we'll send it back inside the studios with Mike Morabito to finish up our broadcast.
But 27 24th stolen gets the victory.
Final thoughts of the Hall of Famer.
Well, first of all, I just want to comment on Cheon.
It's easy to see why he's such a favorite with his teammates.
Very, very humble.
Always giving credit to the old line to the receivers to the running back.
So he's gonna do some great things this year.
Uh, anything in terms of on the field that you're gonna want to see different for two Lane moving forward against Navy next week.
Yeah, I want to see him play better early.
Yeah, it was a thing last year to Steve. Yeah.
So we got to see him play better early.
Uh, get better with with the pass rush and, uh, not give up so many yards.
You know, we got we got torched tonight in the secondary.
So that's gonna be improved on Steve Barrios.
Thank you so much for your time. Jason.

Only one other American school in action today and that was U S. F.
E was incredibly lofty expectations this year, 11th in the competition season, that you pick up a win 27 to 6 over the city.
That was Citadel of the FCS down just one point second quarter before the boys.
By the way, we got seven points scored by either team over the final 30 minutes.
In that second half mentioned only one other American team play today at change.
Next week, way they will take on Navy back home for their conference opened.
Other games will say Cincinnati begins their 2020 campaign.
The 20th right Bear Cats, one of the favorites to win the conferences here that welcome in Austin. P.
And the governors took it on the chin against Pitt earlier today on blowing fashion.
12th ranked Oklahoma State will begin their season after an off week this week.
Welcome in Tokyo.
Stillwater on the Golden Hurricane.

I swear that three of those games show on spring yard, and, uh, that, uh, the game, which was I guess so.
Once again we go back to the two lane I.
P, and for the black person where there are, uh, lower their self.
We'll take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta while South fresh off their went over the Senate.
I'll get a they had up in South Bend.
Take on Notre Dame.
But Irish aren't ranked Duke earlier in the day, and I take that back.
I think Notre Dame is ranked 10th in the country, so here on my part there.
But nonetheless, American play gets underway for the Green Wave one week from today and 11 a.
start at home against Navy.
Of course, the Midshipmen.
They started their year.
Oh, and one with lost to BYU, 55 to +32 Lane wins their opener 27 24 over South Alabama, and we'll take a look at the top 25 when we return.
Listening to Tulane football from Clearfield.
I am a college way.

Final scores today, um, Clemson winning 37 13 Oklahoma winning 48 Nothing and Notre Dame winning 27 13 today in college football today.
Also, Texas winning 59 3.
North Carolina winning 31 to 6 over Syracuse and the upset of the day you allow defeating.
Um um, I would stay 31 14.
Bless your final score.
So once again, thanks for joining us here on SportsCastr for tonight's Tulane Post game show.
Yeah, yes, Yeah.
Welcome back to the Capital.
One postgame show from the American Conference to the top 25.
Let's check in on the task performance scoreboard.
Now back inside the capital.
One studio like Morabito here on this Saturday evening has two lane starts their year.
Wanna know 27 to 24 over South Alabama Wasn't pretty to begin with.
In fact, less than five minutes to go in the third quarter.
Uh, Green Wave trailed by 18 but they would storm back, scored 21 unanswered and ultimately take care of business, thanks in part to their run.
40 carries, 203 yards.
So just over five yards of carry.
But four scores all on the ground tonight for the Green wave.
A big reason why there want to know to start the year again.
They will take on Navy one week from today in their home opener before we wrap this one up.
So let's take one final look at scores.
We shift over to the top 25 where one upset occurred earlier today and that was in Ames, Iowa State, taking on Louisiana and the Sun Belt doing some damage in this week to 31 14.
Raging Cajuns take care of the 23rd ranked Cyclones.
Iowa State begins their year.
Oh, and one other finals.
Most of these from the A C C, including the newest full time a C C member.
I'll be it just for 2020.
That's 10th ranked Notre Dame.
Brian Kelly got a contract extension in this Fighting Irish win by 14/27 to 13.
Again, they'll welcome in U. S. F.
One week from today.
13th ranked Texas.
They've had some scares and openers in recent years.
No such case today as they blast Utah 59 to 3 56 point win for the Longhorns in that Lone Star State showdown.
Mack Brown Era number.
And it's 18 Frank UNC all over Syracuse, 31 to 6 earlier today from Chapel Hill.
How about the top right team in the country? Clemson Tigers picking up almost well from where they left off, Of course, most recent game before this, the national championship lost L S U, but nonetheless Clemson, a big of a mainstay in power. Five.
Football on FBS football.
The past half decade plus, uh, start.
13 24 point win for the Tigers over Wake Forest in Winston Salem and fifth ranked Oklahoma.
They wanna know 48.
Nothing over Missouri State as the Sooners will now shift their attention towards Big 12 play two weeks from today at home against Kansas State and and speaking of teams that didn't do well against Sunbelt squads Kansas State, uh, they lost the Arkansas State, 35 31 while we're at it, really, it's not just a great day for the Sunbelt Bad day for the Big 12 and nine o'clock start from Lawrence, Kansas, and they're at the half Coastal Carolina 25 on the Jayhawks, 28 +23 year two of the Les Miles era in the Sunflower State.
But to laid goes one to know to start their year come from behind victory against South Alabama, 27 to 24 3 point win for the Green Wave, who scored 21 consecutive points to close out the Jaguars.
And again, they set their attention towards Navy next week so they pick up a road victory to begin 2020 playing momentum heading into the season.
Back to back ball victories.

Let's go ahead and recap.
Tonight's game will begin a recap.
Let's go ahead and get the share screen up.
Recap What happened tonight? Be a South Alabama's um being Let's try and do that.
South Alabama loses to the Green Wave.
Let's go ahead and recap What happened tonight here in the from the from the game Tonight.
Let's go ahead and begin without scoring plays.
We'll go ahead and give you those scoring plays.
Will give you the first okay to scoring plays.
Um, South Alabama first score.
South Alabama disco on a seven play, 80 yard drive, took two minutes and 46 seconds.
Once again, it was seven. Nothing.
Um, on a Cohen Baker 34 yard catch from Chase.
Um um, Lovett seven up in which you scored two lane scored.
Um um, in the second quarter at the 9.
27 mark. Foreplay.
Um, can't cow from six yards out.
Made it 7 to 62 point conversion.
Extra point, Miss um, Jalen Wayne had a 13 yard catch from change.
Lovric was on five plays, 75 yards.
Made it 14 6 on Den Carlos Davis at the two yard touchdown run.
Six place, 75 yards.
It was 21 6, and Diego Guardado kicked the 49 yard field goal that was on seventh place, 24 yards, seven plays, 24 yards.
Made it, um, um, 24 6 and Camp Carroll had a 24 yard, 12 yard run, so it's a 12 yard run.
Six place, 60 yard drive made it 24 13 was to score two.
Made a 24 1924 19 was your score.
Uh um, in the 3rd and 4th quarter, um, one on six plays and one on five plays.
And then the last, um, touchdown came on on six plays, 67 yards, one minute, 48 seconds to Lane.
When's the final score? 27 24 2 Lane outscored.
Um, Southern Miss 14. Nothing.
Um, South Alabama outscored Tulane 14 to 6 in the second quarter, 10 to 7 in the third quarter and 14 2 lane 1 14.
Nothing, uh, in the fourth quarter.
So once again your final score.
27 24 Let's give you the stats of this game will give you those stats.
Let's go ahead and give you all the stats.
Give you the final status of this game.
Okay, Final status of this game.
Two. Lane had 394 yards.
Um, total yards of offense.
A two Lane ran the ball 40 times for 203 yards.
That's an excellent running game, so we're back in stride.
We only past 30 times for 1 91 way was 14 of 30 tonight, 1 91 for the air.
Um um First downs.
We had 22 1st downs, um, nine on runs, 11 on pass and two on penalties.
Also total plays 74 each for both teams.
Um, I was pretty good on their yards per play.
6 for two lane and 6.
0 for the Jaguars.
Um, rushing and passing was 40 34 um, to lay me, um, 35.
35 for, um, South Alabama.
So that was the okay.
The red zone efficiency tonight.
Um, wrestling attempts 44 27 points in the ray's own.
Um, So the restaurant touchdowns four, four runs, no passes or four runs.
No passes, no turnovers in the red zone.
Third downs was one of 11.
Um, for two lane Thoma.
Possessing in the red zone was 30 minutes and 10 seconds and 29 50 for, uh, South Alabama.
So let's give you the first down efficiencies, um, 33.
32 in favor of, uh, it was 204 to 24 for South Alabama.
See, um um, First down runs with 21 for 100 yards.
Um, South Alabama, 1983.
So they had 83 yards.
4 stockyards one.
Um, so they only have one turnover two lane, and then one turnover and then two touchdowns coming out of it.
So that was now third down efficiency.
Let's give you the third down.
Um, third down two.
Lane had 11 attempts.
They only have one conversion, so they have to do a lot better on third down conversions tonight.
They will not extraordinary good on those conversions.
Okay, let's give you the first quarter stats.
I'll give you the first quarter.
Stats will go through all the quarter stats.
First quarter starts.
Um, Tulane had, UM 103 yards total.
108 for South Alabama.
12 runs for two lane for 27 34 yards or nine attempts for South Alabama.
Passing 76 yards.
Six of 11 for two lane 47 for South Alabama.
Third down conversions.
One of four for two lane in one of three for South Alabama.
So that was in the first quarter.
Now in second quarter, it was 14 6 215 yards for South Alabama in the second quarter.
First, uh, too late 1 16 8 carries for 94 yards for the Green Wave and 36 for the South Alabama Jags, one of five passing for 23 yards for two lanes in the second quarter.
Also, one third downs well over two.
The time of possession.
9 22 to 5 38 for South Alabama.
So two Lane had the ball.
Mawr also in the first quarter.
That was a 49 now in the first half, Um, to Brian had 219 yards total to 2.
rushing to Lane had 20 carriage for 11 20.
So they just built it up the 1 20 passing 99 yards.
7 to 16 passing.
Um, first down, um, rush, um 11th downs.
Five on runs, five on past and then 17% on third down.
So that's not good in the first half.
We should have been better in the first half.
Tom A possession.
Two lane, 18 minutes and 11 seconds.
Um, South Alabama, 11 49.
We had scored 21 points in that second half total.
1 75 96 On total yards rushing yards.
We had 24 83 so we had a pretty good second half running the football 4.
South Alabama only had 13 yards.
Russian UM 92 passing in the second half.
So our time of possession 11 59 and 18 18 I think 11 looks like for South Al now in the third quarter.
Let's go through the third quarter summaries.
Third quarter summaries um, South Alabama on Leah.
Two Lane had one of eight, um, Russia's non carries for 59 yards for eight passing penalties to of 30.
So that's Onley.
Two penalties with just minimize those penalties.
Um, first downs on runs and passes, Uh, two passes on day 32 runs, three passes.
Uh, total plays 18 for South Alabama is 17 for, um, two lane s o time of possession.
Tulane had the ball 6 28 and 3rd and 8 32.
And the for now.
This is 33 quarters.
391 yards for South Alabama, 3 27 for the green wave.
Um, let's go through the numbers.
29 carries with 1 79 27 carries for South Alabama.
South Alabama had to 90.
That was 17 and 25 passing.
Some South Alabama had 19 1st downs, seven on run, non on past two.
Lane had seven on run and eight on past.
So pretty good on the pass on.
First down now, third town was not that good.
So we have to be consistent on those third downs once again.
That's just we're just looking at these numbers tonight and we have toe get better.
Um, as we go, Um, Okay.
Four quarter summary.
14 points scored, 67 yards for greenies and 28 for South Alabama.
11 runs for 24 yards.
Um, eight runs for eight minus 18.
Um, run coverage in the fourth quarter.
Um, we held them the 46 yards they went five for 10.
We went three for six.
Six first downs to on runs.
They had three on past and none on run.
Time of possession was, um, 5 31 for the Green wave and 9 29 for South Alabama.
Two sacks in the fourth quarter.
So that was in the game.
Let's give it a quarterback, progressions, Let's go ahead and give you those progressions.
His numbers tonight he was 14 of 31 91.
He was sacked at one time for lost.
Hey was sacked five times tonight.
He was just There was an excellent pressure on him.
Um, on 1st and 20 minus seven first, 3rd and 13 he had minus 6. 36.
He had minus 11 13 70 at minus 10.
And, um, 2nd and 10 minus 11 now.
Hey, was sacked.
Um, no times he had, he had some good completion.
Some on 1st and 10 of the 40 So he had a nice well, completion.
So he had some completions, but he did, um, getting fall into some 2nd 12 and 2nd and 10 situation.
So I'll be honest with you, To be honest, I think if you could keep the Navy quarterback off balance, I'm pretty sure we'll have Ah, excellent day that Saturday when we take on navy.
So that's something we have to do in the game.
Um, make no mistake about it.
So, um, let's give you the running back wide receivers tonight.
We'll give you the wide receiver breakdown.
I'm gonna go through two lanes. Wide receivers.
Jackson had three catches for 44 Spears to catches for 30 watts.
Two catches with 15.
Um, Marty Jones to catches for seven.
Daniels, one catch for 33.
James one catch for 23.
M Y M s, um Nickel.
Jones had one catch.
Also, Brown had one catch in the game today, and also Robinson one catch non receivers caught some balls tonight.
It was an average of 13.6.
Um, the main target was was Amari Jones, who was targeted five times and also, um EN Y.
Jones was targeted five times as well for the Tulane Green Wave.
Now the running game.
Let's go through the running game breakdowns.
Let's get let's go through the run.
The two lane Russian attack tonight 40 carries 203 yards.
Your main contributor was Taj Spears.
He had 11 carries, 105 yards.
10 carries, 26 yards.
Tonight, his average was 2.
6 and Spears 9.5.
So good. Excellent.
Um, running by Thai J. Spears.
I liked what I saw tonight out of Taiji Spears.
I like to Seymour out of him next week when we take on Navy, because this is gonna be a I once again, um, option run gain that they will be running.
Now, let's go to the defense of stats.
Would go through the Dr some reasons to drive some reason to Lane had the ball.
Um, in the first quarter, they followed.
That was on the first play.
Then they had it down.
Then they had some punts in the game.
And then they had the 1234 touchdowns.
That was in the second third eso its 2nd, 3rd and fourth quarter.
So that was in the game.
They had 33 And now tonight, um, three announced for South Alabama, we had four eso.
Our defense was absolutely They only had once again free touchdown.
So they had one in the second, uh, one No.
Two in the second, right there, too in the second and one and the third.
So, too in the second one and the third.
But they had to kick a field goal.
So so to school is giving up South Alabama in those, um, quarter so I'll be honest with your luck.
Um, don't drive summaries like that.
That tells you the stories, right? They have this football game.
Those, um, great touchdowns to in a second, one of the 30 then the field goal, Um, in the third quarter.
So I look at it this way.
What a tely East.
We got those 43 and announce against them.
Because if we could get three and outs versus Navy the next week, that will help us in the long run.
So once again, your final score.
Two lane when? 27.
24 in mobile to open up the 2000 and 20 college football season.
