Good day. Good day.
This is Ray route from SportsCastr News.
And the ladies and gentlemen.
The moment we've all been waiting for is now 25 minutes away.
The Houston Texans will be facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs in finally the opening game of the season.
Ladies and gentlemen, the NFL season has finally arrived.
Now, no matter who you cheer for, the opening game of the season is always the most exciting again.
You're like a kid.
At Christmas, we finally get to see actual football.
Now, this is normally the time of the year that we're going.
I'm so sick of watching the preseason, but that's not what happened this year.
There was no pre season.
This whole cove it pandemic through the whole thing off.
So for the first time, we're gonna be watching football.
We're gonna be watching it.
The first game of the year that we're gonna be watching is gonna be a real game.
But that's okay with me.
So today I'm gonna break down what I think is gonna happen.
And ladies and gentlemen, you'll be able to find me to do in the pre games for all the primetime games of the seasons on Thursday nights, Sunday night's Monday night.
So you can also catch me Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
Previewing the entire slate of games.
So when we look at the Houston Texans, when we look at the Kansas City Chiefs, when we try to figure out who's going to win this game, the easy bet is to say, the Kansas City Chiefs.
And look, I'm gonna be honest.
If I was if you put a gun to my head and said to me right now, pick a team, I'm probably going to pick the Kansas City Chiefs.
They got Patrick Mahomes, one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the best.
They've got a brand new.
You've got a brand new running back.
Of course, they're gonna have Tyree kill Sammy Watkins, Hardman Robinson, Travis, Kelsey, The offensive line.
Still a little suspect in my eyes.
Defense is still going toe.
Well, we're gonna have to see, of course, as we know Shaw.
Breeland has been suspended and will be missing the first four games of the season, but they still got Tyron Matthew one of the best safeties in the NFL, and we're gonna see how Rodney Clemens come play at their strong safety position.
But if I was everybody else, man, I wouldn't be necessarily 100% counting out the Houston Texans.
I know that a lot of people mhm.
I thought Houston was crazy when they traded away the best receiver in the NFL in DeAndre Hopkins.
I came on this very show and talked about how insane they would be to trade away DeAndre Hopkins.
I even went as far as saying that the leash of Bill O Brien is should be so thin that it should be one quarter long.
If they're trailing in their first game of the season, he should be fired before the second quarter starts.
But my colleague over on SportsCastr news, Mr Lawrence Owen, he managed to change my mind.
And perhaps the Houston Texans won't be as bad as we think.
Of course, you got to Shawn Watson, who in his own right is probably a top three quarterback in the NFL.
They've actually added a legitimate running back if he can stay healthy in David Johnson.
The biggest knock on Johnson is he hasn't lived up to that massive contract, and he signed in Arizona and he's finding himself heard all the time.
But could a change of scenery and could a healthy season actually improve the way he plays? And then, when I look at the wide receiving corps of the Houston taxes, will Fuller Brandon cooks? Randall Cobb? Kenny Stills? It ain't is bad, as maybe people are making it out to be.
Yes, you don't have the Andre Hopkins, but what we could actually see now is to Shawn Watson.
Actually spread the ball around the field, not just focus in on DeAndre Hopkins.
Every single play.
He's got options.
Now he's got people that he can throw the ball to.
Lawrence's timing and saying, If he was a betting guy, I'd be dropping money on the total over this game of 53.
I think it's gonna be more than 53 a half.
I think we're going to see an absolute blowout and the matchup that I am the most interested in watching today.
It's not too Shawn Watson verse Patrick Mahomes because I always hate when they call that a matchup because they don't play against each other.
It's going to be the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line against the Houston Texans.
Absolutely ruthless front seven.
Obviously, it's being led by Blake, locked done, and blacks in J.
Scarlett got to see how Whitney Merciless could do.
The Texans probably have one of the better duos, and Zach Cunningham and Bernard Rick McKinney at the linebacking corps.
The fact that Houston went out and decided they're gonna pay him a $6 million was a telling sign that they're going to rely on that defense.
I actually made a prediction that the New England Patriots would be trading for McKinney because I didn't think that Houston was gonna wanna keep that kind of salary on the books.
But so far, they're going with it.
But if we go back to the divisional round game between Houston and Kansas City, the offensive line of Kansas City did a good job.
A very good job against the Houston Texans front seven.
And that's the matchup to watch today because, in my opinion, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line isn't that good.
You see, when teams air destined to win a championship, just like the Kansas City Chiefs war last season.
Everybody's gonna be clicking.
Everybody's gonna be playing at higher levels.
The Kansas City Chiefs defense played better than they were last season.
The offensive line played better than it was last season.
You can't go through an entire season going down 21 points and coming all the way back.
You can't keep doing that.
It's not a sustainable way toe win football games.
But as much as I want to sit there right now and say that it's a 100% guarantee that Kansas City is gonna win this game in Kansas City is my pick to win this game.
Because how do you bet against the defending Super Bowl champions? You can't do it.
But the glimmer of hope in my eyes for Kansas City or for Houston is that front seven Boston like says.
The only way I see Houston winning is of Kansas City's defense doesn't show up.
Houston's DBS aren't gonna be able to keep up, in my opinion, and Boston, Lex, you're not far off man.
But I'll argue that a lot of defensive backs can't keep up with Kansas City.
We saw the Patriots, who had the best secondary in the NFL, not be able to keep up with Kansas City receivers at least last season.
They did it for half a game in the A F C championship the year before, and then they exploded after that.
But as Lawrence says, J.
Watt was nursing a shoulder injury in the playoff game.
He's 100% healthy right now, and I love me.
So I love me a healthy J.
J. Watt, one of my favorite players toe watch.
And I think if they could get pressured to, can't Patrick Mahomes hit him? Eat him up.
And I think what they need to do is take the Patriots approach to things and take away some of his better weapons.
Put one of your linebackers whether you're gonna put McKinney, who is not really a who's not really even known as the coverage linebacker or Cunningham on Kelsey.
Get physical with him on the line of scrimmage.
Don't allow Calc to get out in the flat, force my homes to throw the ball downfield.
I know that sounds crazy.
Why would you wanna let Patrick Mahomes.
Throw the ball downfield? No, but do it before he's ready.
See, One of the things that Kansas City does so well is they show you all these different looks, all these different things, and you're kind of you're running here running.
They're trying to get around trying, trying to pull something off neck is Tyree.
Kill enough time to get open because you can't keep them down forever.
And Patrick Mahomes could just rifle it down the field and hit him or hit Sammy Watkins or hit one of the speedy receivers.
You always have an outlet in in Travis, Kelsey and Lawrence hit it right on that.
Kelsey doesn't like to get physical anymore.
He avoids contact.
And that's what I'm saying.
Get physical with him at the line of scrimmage.
You're gonna frustrate him.
He's not gonna push back.
That's exactly why Travis Kelsey has awful numbers against New England Patriots.
They put a linebacker a strong safety on them, and they get physical at the line of scrimmage.
I don't expect that Bill O Brien is sitting in his office right now watching me get in the game plan.
I'm sure they have a game plan.
What I'm saying is, I hope that that's their game plan On the Kansas City side of things again, that offensive line needs toe hold up, because if they do manage to take away either Watkins or Tyree kill, you've lost your starting running back who opted out because of covert this season.
And I know that people are really high on the rookie, but you never know how that's gonna break down.
That offensive line needs to give.
Patrick Mahomes times needs to let those speedy receivers do what they need to do.
If they get physical with you, you need to get physical back.
But I am fully expecting a high scoring game.
I'm not seeing any team going away with this.
This could be a one possession game.
Honestly, it could be a one possession game, so it's going to be interesting to see.
I mean, Kansas City is what a nine point favorite heading into tonight.
I think they started as a 10.
They dropped down to a nine on over under 53 a half.
When we're talking even money a minus 4 50 on Houston, I with the minus 4 50 on Houston.
If I was gambling and I wanted to make some money, I I would feel comfortable putting money on on on Houston, even though I have.
I'm picking Kansas City to win this game, and I know it sounds like I'm contradicting myself.
But if I was a betting man, I think Houston could get the job done.
Kansas City is running a nine game winning streak.
Ever since they lost Week 10 to the Tennessee Titans, DeShaun Watson is ready to prove.
I also think that we got to remember that Sean wants us on a contract here.
He's waiting to sign the big ducats.
He wants the money, he wants the dollars and he's gonna have to do it. Let's look at here.
Let's talk about why the Chiefs can cover the spread.
Let's talk about why the Texans can.
Here's why the Chiefs uncovered.
Here's why the Chiefs uncovered tonight that nine point, that nine point spot they're going to give Houston.
When the homes of Era officially began for the Chiefs of 2018 they had a reputation of being easily dispatched when the playoffs began Kansas City at one postseason victory back into 1993 before my Holmes was inserted as a starting quarterback.
The Cheese has gone 28 8, including the postseason, under the guidance of the 2018 NFL MVP and Super Bowl 55 m v P Mahomes said 9412 passing yards and 31 touchdowns in his 1st 31 games, the most in those categories for any quarterback during that career span.
He's also the fastest 7500 career passing yards.
Having accomplished that feat in his 1st 24 games, the Chiefs returned 18 of 22 starters from last year's Super Bowl winning squad and added rookie running back Clyde Edwards Hilaire, who's expected to be a quick in versatile contributor to their potential, to their potent offense.
And I think that the running back is gonna be the big one.
Those outlet passes if you take away Tyree kill.
If you rough up Travis Kelsey, then I believe you're going to see Patrick Mahomes doing a Tom Brady special and dumping it off to dumping it off tol air and trying to get up the field now when we look at the Texas side of things.
While Houston was panned for it's off season trade that sent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the Cardinals, the Texans made corresponding moves to help watching replaces Top Target.
As I already mentioned, they acquired speedster Brandon Cooks from the Rams and signed veteran receiver Randall Cobb.
While there's plenty of evidence that the other key pieces on the offense, like David Johnson and Will Fuller may not stay healthy all season, both will be the Texan starting lineup without an injury concerns.
On Thursday, the Texans proved to be a tough team to blow out last season as well.
In fact, they lost just three games by more than 10 points.
One of those weeks, 17 loss of the Titans came with several starters resting for the playoffs, with Arrowhead Stadium allowing just 22% capacity in Week one.
The home field edge to the Kansas City should be mitigated, giving Houston a chance to keep the game within the spread.
And I don't think that we're putting enough emphasis on that 22%.
Arrowhead Stadium is a nightmare to plan.
They set the record for decibels for how loud they could get.
That's not gonna happen with 20 to play with 22% of their fan base in the crowd.
I'm sure they could get loud enough, but they're gonna be spread out.
It's going to be different, and I think that there'll be a little bit of advantage, but not as much.
Shawn Watson should be able to hear a lot of things.
I don't think that the players in Kansas City could get us pumped.
There's also gonna be a banner ceremony tonight and that kind of thing.
And, you know, I want to just be clear that I've seen it happen with New England.
I believe that sometimes, especially when it's your first banner, you can get wrapped up in that moment and kind of forget that you've got a game in front of you.
Lawrence says that the Chiefs let the Texans jump out to another big lead.
Expect Watson to continue doing whatever he is doing and not let off the gas.
And I I mean, I agree with you 100% and he has to do that.
I mean, if you are D Shawn Watson, you cannot do what happened last time.
You know, my dad always told me, Never give a sucker a fair chance or if you got the other team down, you step on their throat.
And in that playoff game, man, they didn't do it.
They didn't step on the and they let Kansas City come all the way back.
So as much as Kansas City is the favorite, I wouldn't be.
When it comes to betting I wouldn't be playing nine points, I'd be taking Houston on the spread.
I will take Kansas City on the straight up, but But this is a big gastric beside it.
I'm telling you right now, I would not be shocked if we turn around and see Houston win this game.
And Lawrence, my boy, who hopefully will be doing some pre games with me very shortly, is on the same page is me.
Has Kansas City winning? But he'd be surprised if it wouldn't be surprised if the Texans one.
Uh, there's too many fans, especially Kansas City fans out there who I are in this sort of mindset that this is gonna be some dominating game, and like I said at the very top for anybody who missed it.
I believe that the Houston Texans are a better team.
Then they were last season, even losing DeAndre Hopkins.
Yes, they lost the best wide receiver in the NFL.
But they added, Brandon cooks.
They and they added Randall Cobb.
They added some very solid receiving options.
The song watching to throw the football.
So it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna be a fun game.
I have to come on at 8.
30 into my other podcast.
And I'm telling you right now I'm gonna have one eye on the game.
One eye on the podcast because it's football's back.
Guys, what we now seven minutes away, eight minutes away from kickoff.

Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy football.
Thank you, Lawrence saying great stream.
I appreciate that.
I'm ready to go sit back, kick back, grab some popcorn, grab an adult beverage and enjoy some pigskin.
I think there was a lot of us and I'm one of them that was worried that this season wouldn't kick off the ground.
I was worried that this coronavirus was going to wreak havoc.
I tip my hat to the NFL to the teams to the players for keeping themselves healthy, keeping themselves safe, keeping their teammates safe and ensuring that in a time when we need football, that we're gonna get it.
