Peter DP In sports talk, that man over there is Connor Commentary And ladies and gentlemen, together we bring you DP and commentary a corner we air coming them to them tonight.
This is, like episode like 20 for us and you're coming live on SportsCastr, live on Facebook.
Live on YouTube.
And ladies and gentlemen live on clutch points.
How do we feel about that, man? This is a debut, right? This is our debut for the child.
Clutch points should be nervous.
Uh, absolutely not.
I mean, especially since do we took Tuesday off were arrested.
That's so we're dead.
We're ready to go today.
Ready to have Ah, good time and talk A little bit of football men, anybody, a lot of stuff happening.
Time talking football.
It is a good sign.
Well, we're now, ladies and gentlemen, Exactly one week today at this time next week when we're doing this show, Connor Yeah, we'll probably be discussing the score in the Kansas City Chiefs as we people don't.
You know, people won't notice that we're kind of watching in the background.
Um but what man? You know what? OK, so let's talk about the big news the big news.
The big news, the biggest.
Today, after all the debate, after all, the O Jared Stadium is still the favorite in New England to be the starting quarterback.
Not only is Cam Newton officially announced this morning at a team meeting as the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots, he is also named a hold on.
Remember? Remember, this guy has character issues.
Remember that? Yeah.
He won't fit the Patriots system. Remember that.
I remember all this.
Yeah, he's got He's got no work ethic.
Remember that? Remember that? Um um oh, he's not my quarterback.
Remember that. Remember that.
Remember that, Ladies and gentlemen, your new offensive captain, Captain Superman.
Cam freakin Newton makes sense.
Makes perfect sense.
All right, dude, I'm just for all the haters for all the people that were for all the people that were doubting for all the people that were, I don't know, hating on the man.
What do you say to them, Connor? I personally am not surprised at all.
I don't think you probably are either.
We both knew that this moment was coming.
I never really had a doubt in Cam Newton that he was gonna be the starting quarterback.
I'm not surprised at all that he's a captain.
I'm actually pretty happy about that.
But I know that Twitter and the fan base out there there were a bunch of people like you said, who would just sharpen.
They had all these issues with Cam Newton.
And so hey, I don't know.
They're gonna go root for the Buccaneers this year.
I guess I We lost my camera.
You disappear? Yeah.
You just you back and I'm backing.
Did my camera just does this? It just shuts off. I don't know why.
I don't know what it's what it's beef is or its issue is.
Ah, at least what? I'm on streaming out.
I could just turn it back on and whatever worksite, whatever works.
Um, I do want to just throw a little shout out.
Um, and I know that all my ah, our viewers in Boston in Massachusetts and I know year if you want the same way.
Yeah, but the Toronto Raptors made one of the greatest pass in shots to win the game against the Boston Celtics tonight that just moments ago, I'll in an unbelievable victory to bring the serious now 2 to 1 after trailing two.
Nothing still don't know if Boston could.
Ah, I don't know if Toronto could be Boston, but Ogi played very, very well tonight.
And, ah, massive respect, Teoh, my Toronto Raptors, who I did not give a shot to in this series.
The fact that they may have made it 21 on an unbelievable shot, mixing just a little bit more interesting.
Really, you don't think they have.
You didn't think they had much of a chance for us to Celtic coming in NA Given as the reigning champs, they don't have a closer.
Yeah, so here's the thing, man.
People ask me about the Boston Celtics are about the Toronto Raptors, and I said, Listen, I said, as a team as a whole, I think they're a better team than last year, though.
Kawhi Leonard, because they had it gives more guys that gave Pascoe seaq um, Kyle Lowry, uh, G all those kind of guys Freddy the opportunity to come out and move the ball around more and take their opportunities.
That being said, even though I think that's why they were a good regular season team.
That being said, when it comes town to you need a guy to take over a game.
I mean, if you watch, came to the Raptors were in that game, they fouled themselves to death.
I mean, I think Boston scored something like 26 points off off of free throws.
You mean? And when you did the math, that was the difference between the loss and the wind mathematically, Um but, um, who my whole thing was, was, Who's gonna put the team on their back? You mean that's always been my thing with this Raptors team? Who's going to step up, put the team on their back and when it, like, collided last year.
I mean, quite didn't have the greatest finals last year, but he carried us against Philadelphia, carried us against Milwaukee, right? And I just don't know who on the Raptors this year who's gonna pick the team up on their back and beat a team like the Celtics, who looked really, really good but unbelievable shot for the Raptors to win the game tonight.
My phone is blowing up with tax messages So, um, people in Boston are all upset.
Yeah, but these are all Toronto people.
Texted me. Okay.
And the attacks were coming across like you better say this on.
Yeah, I gotta say, it's on.
You better see this on the air tonight. Little balls, boss.
Happy in Toronto right now.
Putting everyone on warning Everyone here in Boston.
All right, so let's talk back.
Let's go back to the Patriots.
So, man, I'm really look, I mean, you're not surprised.
I'm not. Surprise. Surprise.
Now, um, you and I both admitted that we kind of talked up Jared Stadium to ourselves to make us believe that he area this team this year.
I think that you're in my reaction to Cam Newton being signed by the Patriots was probably reaction enough to know that we weren't even believe in our own BS.
And we changed our win totals for the year by, like, three or four games immediately.
Also, you know what I mean? People always like to talk about, like, you know, Peyton Manning to Andrew Lock and Joe Montana to Steve Young.
And do you really now that the Patriots have went from Drew Bledsoe.
Friends Hall of Famer to Tom Brady.
Absolute Hall of Famer to Cam Newton, Right? Who's, you know, around being a former EVP? Probably, you know, if you can get a Super Bowl under his belt runner up for ah ah, Hall of Fame.
I mean, we went Bledsoe.
We haven't had a bad quarterback since.
Like what? You with Bledsoe draft like 1994? Ah, yeah.
Actually, I think he was there when they went to the Super Bowl 96.
Was it 97? 97? Okay, up when they lost the Green Bay.
So the Patriots haven't had a bad quarterback is their starting quarterback.
I mean, minus 2008 when Tom Brady, Blues knee and they still had 11 wins with Matt Cast Castle yet went to a Pro Bowl when he was in Kansas City.
They had a back since 1994 right? Yep.
And then before that, the adjective G for those four games and then oh, no.
Three games and then Jacoby for set for one of them.
Two games to games.
There's a game and a half of Jimmy G A game and a half for Jacoby per set.
Yeah, but they were to know what Jimmy G is a starter and one and one with percent as a starter.
Oh, but, dude, I mean, it's Ah, Look, I was seeing this on SportsCastr news this week.
I'm I'm done with speculation.
I'm done with what's, you know, gonna happen in predictions.
And can they do this? And can they do that and all that kind of bull a week Today? Football starts a week.
Sunday we get to watch the New England Patriots play.
I completely agree.
I mean, we have speculated all off season.
This is what's gonna happen.
This is what Cam Newton is gonna look like this.
Look, they're going to do with the offense.
A week from Sunday, we'll finally find out.
So I have to ask you live on the air? Yeah.
Put me on the spot.
All right, I'm ready.
We discussed this a month or so ago.
Yeah, you and I both had a lot less going on in our life.
A the time? Yeah.
Can we expect to you here on SportsCastr for the pre games on Sundays? If I'm not working.
I've been working on Sundays.
Unfortunately, the hell you doing working Sunday, I think is closed on Sundays.
We've been opened.
I work last Sunday.
I worked two Sundays.
I had the last two Sundays ago.
I worked the Sunday before and I worked last Sunday again.
I'm on, like, 14 days straight of work.
And I haven't taken a day off in the two weeks.
I will text you all morning and you tell me when you're dead.
Yeah, We'll do it right from the dealership if we have to.
Yeah, Hideout back.
Maybe they'll catch me in the launch.
Me? I'm kidding.
We're not gonna make it do freaky, but if you're around, I can expect you for a pregame.
Yeah, 15 minutes.
That's all it is.
I mean, just we'll talk about how bad the patrons are going to beat the team to play in that week, and we'll move on.
That's that's the optimism.
People need to be listening to the rest of the media.
It's gonna be how bad they're gonna play.
Oh, how about it? They're gonna play, and I mean, like, I mean the reaction today from from half the fan base of You know, not my quarterback, Not my captain.
Like, just shut up.
Just I don't understand what people's beef is with, um, with Cam Newton.
But again, Look, I it's funny.
I was watching something on YouTube the other day and I was reading the comments, and I don't know why you do this to myself.
Yeah, the YouTube comments, man.
And someone wrote, like, um, I was watching Pat McAfee.
That's what I was watching.
So I started reading the comments and they were talking about, um, the book dynasty, which will get into I just purchased it today.
Um, someone to do a book review.
Hopefully the next week or so, we'll work that book.
Uh, Jeff something.
OK, Ok, um let me look it up.
A guy who's written some pretty good books about sports in the past.
There's apparently some fiery stuff in this book.
I'm really, really Yeah, I'm really excited.
Teoh Jeff Benedict.
Yeah, I'm really excited Teoh to get into because there's things like Giselle.
I don't know if you've seen me on Twitter now.
I'm referring to Tom Brady.
Is Johnny Foxboro.
Basically, She went off on Robert Kraft and said that Bill Belichick treats Tom Brady like he's just a guy and not the greatest of all time.
He's just Johnny Foxboro and Fox for us.
That what she said? Yeah, that's all this stuff.
So I'm trying to get fall.
I'm trying to get Johnny Foxboro to stick.
You know, Fox were up nice, but yeah, apparently it's gonna It goes through the whole dynasty from the I mean, I read the prologue today, just ah, you know, just just to read it.
And it was basically, you know, the Drew Bledsoe injury, and then them in the hospital.
And and basically, it was valid checking Brady standing beside Bledsoe's bed when he came out of, like, a coma, whatever.
And he looks over and the two of them are standing shoulder to shoulder.
And they said, you know, little at that time that anybody know the Patriots about to go on a 20 year dynasty.
All right, you know, Right? Um who wouldn't know? Know who would have.
I mean, like I always do.
I always talked about my dad talking about this bum.
Tom Brady, right? A taking Drew Bledsoe's job and this idiot ballot shack.
Who'd you know? You hubs and, you know, bless those.
What are they doing? You know, hold take of all time, huh? Well, it I know.
I mean, if a fire site, I mean, if twitter existed at the time Oh, my God.
Oh, but, I mean, I could see I think a lot of people saying, What is this kid doing, You know? Absolutely that So imagine Twitter did exist back then.
All the people who would who would be hiding their tweets now and going back and deleting it.
It's like that Homer Simpson thing where he goes back into the bushes.
You gotta own bad tweets, man.
That's what I agree.
Agree? I have a famous tweet that I talked about a million times.
It was the stuff of stuff on Gilmour's like fourth game with the Patriots, and he took it was against Caroline against Cam Newton and he took a the Patriots sat Cam Newton on third down, and we're going to get the ball back, and I think they were tied at that point and we're like, two minutes left in the game and the pages were going to get the ball back and you probably know, march down the field.
Wind gives do and improve the three and one on the season.
Instead, they, you know they sachem flag on the play is to find Gilmore for the second time.
Gets a hands to the face. Penalty automatic.
First down, Newton marches Carolina down the field kicks a field goal.
They went by a field goal.
I remember that game.
And I famously tweeted out You ready for this? I'm ready.
Enough is enough with this bum.
It's time to cut Gilmore.
Who cares? A salary, captain over that nature cold take.
Oh, man, It was okay when the Patriots won Super Bowl 53.
Somebody had saved that. Wow.
Now incentive to me.
But I'm not going to run away from that man.
I'm not going away from it.
It's it's you know what I mean? We all say things out of anger and out of stupidity, and I agree Those were one of my moments, so I mean, a lot of it's because you're ****ed that what just happens Oh, exactly, Dude, it's I remember tweeting. It's funny.
I remember specific tweets.
I remember tweeting at Ochocinco.
Yeah, I think the Patriots were pain playing the Bills or something like that.
And he was awful for us.
So we could have said anything bad.
And, you know, this was like, I think, two years prior, when he was in Cincinnati, when he was talking about how he's, you know, the best ever.
And he's better than Randy Moss and all this kind of ****. Yeah.
Now now, Definitely not.
Brady hit him down the field wide open, which would have been an easy touchdown, and he dropped the ball like, literally, literally dropped the ball.
And I think I tweeted Adam something along the lines of like, you know, maybe you should get off Twitter and concentrate on trying to catch a football.
That I went thought I thought, by the way Randy Moss would have caught that passed on, and I still remember tweeting that Adam like I just I was so upset that dropped that passed that I just felt the need like I have to tweet that Adam right now.
He said that he was one of the best of all time.
I mean, what absurd statement? There was a Monday night football game where he had a jacket on that said Hall of Fame 2000 Question mark Question Mark.
Yeah, because he thought he was like and this was like, Oh, man, I want to say, this is back in, like 2008 Right? 2000, 2009.
So, like I mean really young into his career, and it is very confident his whole career.
He was a young Yeah, he was a cop.
I mean, when you change your name to a number, that's very true.
That was aggressive.
Yeah, that says it all good for him.
He wanted to let everyone know.
Is he still Chad Ochocinco? Did you go back? No, I think you Chad Johnson.
I think he was getting married.
And because he's getting married, he changed his name back to Johnson. Okay.
I thought I saw it on Twitter. Chad Johnson.
He's back to Chad Johnson now.
He seems honorable.
Guy doesn't seem so air get anymore.
And you just all right, Does this thing.
But with the old days comes wisdom.
So at what point? This year we're gonna tweet something stupid.
Probably like Week three.
I won't get down on doing for a while.
It's time to put your extend.
Um, in it would have to be White Week eight, and he'd have to be stinking it up for me to start thinking like that.
I don't see that happening.
All right, let me ask you another question.
Yeah, on a team that has virtually two locks at receiver in Julian Edelman and Nikkila.
Harry and I would argue that McKeel here is only a lock because of his draft position last year. I agree.
Yeah, he's a lot because they're not gonna get rid of a first round pick on the second year.
How bad do you have to be to get cut a week before the season starts? When really, you should have been a projected starter.
I mean, Mohammed Sunu It was a guy that I had as a walk.
Like I thought so.
I had no Akil Harry as our number three.
I literally had it as Edelman Sanou Harry.
How bad did you have to play that? That you can't make this weak ass receiving corps.
I thought for sure he was going to be on the team, and I thought he was gonna bounce back.
I thought he was injured last year.
Granted, he dropped a bunch of passes.
He looked absolutely terrible.
But I thought he had that high ankle sprain.
I think it was right.
And then he was struggling with the offense.
So I thought this year was gonna come back and he was gonna be pretty good.
I thought he was gonna contribute, so I was kind of surprised that he got cut.
But I was also hearing all the rumblings on Twitter from people were at camp that he didn't look any better this year than he did last year.
Which is kind of crappy, considering that we saw that pre Caesar big pre camp stuff when he was running the hills and he looked like he was getting healthy.
And I mean, you know, at the end of the day, um, the pages give up a second round draft pick to make that was a bust, But I want to remind everybody that it was It was Johnny Foxboro who wanted Graham.
It's a new I agree.
They had to take a shot.
That receiving corps was terrible last year.
They needed to go on, get somebody.
They went out and got so new, and he just didn't pan out.
You know, it's really funny.
I was talking about this today on my YouTube channel, and, um, I was talking about the Patriots, you know, just the inconsistency at wide receiver, since, like, 2017.
Let me just quickly give you the list that I can remember at the top of my head of, like, the receivers that have come and gone.
Be funny. I want to get this.
So since 2017 the Patriots have traded four and then traded away.
Brandon cooks? Yep.
They've let Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan and Philip Door sat walk in free agency.
Oh, yeah, they've signed in.
Cut Josh Gordon.
Who by the way side with Seattle Seahawks today.
Are they, uh, they signed and cut Antonio Brown? Yeah, they traded away Demiri iss Thomas.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about him.
They traded four and now cut Mohammed's new they drafted Nick Eel.
Harry, you know, like and that's I mean, they got Tamir Bird.
Who's you know, Who's he got? You cold warriors will see them like there's been no consistency at that position.
Yeah, none whatsoever.
Now that you say this, I realize it even mawr.
It's been a revolving door outside of Julian Edelman for the past three seasons.
And I mean, if you go back to 2016 I mean, they had Malcolm Mitchell, and then he got injured.
You know, that's unfortunate because he's gonna be pretty good.
I thought he waas e I think he is.
Waas What we all hope McKeel Harry would have been right.
I mean, cause Malcolm Mitchell was it was one of the biggest parts of that Super Bowl run in 20 lives to three comeback, right? He played really well in the Super Bowl.
I remember getting like, a couple of big first down catches, even when, like, I watched a replay on like, I forgot how much this guy contributed.
So even though we've we've kind of conceited like Okay, you know, um, Tom Brady wanted Mohammed Sunu.
He didn't want to work with, you know, He made it clear he didn't want to work with the rookies.
Which is why I believe that we could see a bit of a comeback for Nikkila Harry this year. Yep.
But with all that, it's a mistake, right? What's that? It was, you know? Yeah.
Mohammad Sanu was a mistake.
Yeah, and I said it was a mistake at the time.
I think it's what they needed to dio.
They mean, look at the receiving corps.
Last year we were all on the same page that they needed to make something happen.
They needed to go get somebody I thought I knew was a decent target.
So I mean, a second round pick seem like kind of a high price tag.
But at the time, I wasn't totally against it.
But in hindsight, yeah, it was definitely a mistake.
Yeah, So I got this piece here from the New York Post called Mohammed Sunu is officially a Bill Ballots check Mistake after the release.
So if I go, I'll go through quickly.
Then we can talk about it, see if we agree.
So the patriots are releasing Mohammed Sunu with just a week remaining in the Corona virus shortened pretty season.
The veteran wide out, who was carrying the team's fifth highest salary cap liability in 2020 was informed of the decision Wednesday evening.
The new 31 was brought into New England mid season last year by way of Atlanta to aid a frustratingly inert offense After the Antonio Brown drama unfolded.
The trade cost the Patriots a 20 22nd round pick in a $3.
8 million cap, it in 2019.
But in a rare Bill Belichick misstep, the Rutgers product failed to provide the explosiveness that the Patriots so desperately needed last season and struggled to fit into their scheme. Quote.
I was out there, so I was doing what I was supposed to do play, he said into dismissively of his performance last season via The Boston Globe.
I'm not focused on that anymore.
I'm focused on this year end quote.
Sanou has also been hampered by injuries and began the preseason on the physically unable to perform list after offseason ankle surgery.
If you made the 53 man roster, he was expected to be the team's fourth receiver behind Julian Edelman, Akil Harry and Dimier Bird, his release saves the team $6.
5 million in a cap it this year.
No dead cap it and will take effect at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Patriots now have just shy of $37.
1 million and caps Gates cap space per the Patriots salary cap tracker Miguel Benzene, which I believe is pats cap.
This means they could be in the market to add receiving depth to help out newly acquired starting quarterback Cam Newton immediately.
Alternatively, the Patriots could elect to roll over the cap space to surplus into the 2021 season.
Amid the uncer*****y for next year's cap total, which could decrease in light of shrinking revenues this year, this new will be on the market for a new team.
The 6 ft 2 210 pounder was has secured 403 career catches for 4507 yards, 26 touchdown since entering the league as the Bengals 2012 3rd round pick.
Now, I don't think you can call Mohammed Sunu a mistake.
I think trading a second round pick, um, showed how desperate the Patriots were last season.
Teoh, get somebody who could do something offensively.
We all know that he had that great Baltimore game before falling off the map after being injured.
It was what they needed to do at the time.
Yeah, and I mean I get It's a rare mistake.
See, people are all going to sit there and say, Well, Bilbao checks evaluation of receivers of has been awful, Indiana, Indiana.
That's really only trailing in the draft.
I mean, he's hit on almost every signing that he's made massively on some of them's.
He's had some absolute home runs from people like Look at Wes Welker, who was Wes Welker before he came to the Patriots? He was.
He was a random punt returner for the Dolphins, and I think he played a little bit for the, uh, San Diego.
It was at the time.
I believe the charges if I'm not mistaken.
And then he turned into an absolute star.
Julian Edelman was 1/7 round quarterback.
I mean, Randy Moss obviously was an absolute star, but he was looking like he was washed up in Oakland Dion Branch Dion Branch.
Indeed, he came back a second time and was still really good.
I love Dion branch was Brandon LaFell.
LaFell was very solid.
You know, he kind of turned into Brandon.
Would drop his last year with the Patriots, but he didn't.
He was a big part of Super Bowl 49.
Chris Hogan. Oh, my God. Yeah.
Yeah, and I mean, look, look at the production.
They gotta Josh Gordon when he was here brain. Oh, in sober.
Right, Um and and and then you had I mean, even just like guys who didn't contribute a whole lot but did contribute, Like I think of Michael Floyd.
And I think that big just booming block you lately, Miami game? Yes. Yes.
Like, does so much stuff that was just so good, right? That I mean, it's, um I don't know.
I mean, yeah, this was this was a rare misstep that didn't work for the Patriots.
But I think it's unfair to turn around and say like, I don't know.
I think it's unfair to turn around and say, you know, it was a massive mistake, because I think, as we said, they had to do what they had to do right At the time, I was kind of trying to be optimistic about them doing that.
Obviously, Now it's like all the took a second round pick from us, and we didn't really get anything in return.
But at the time we desperately needed receivers.
They had to do something.
I want to switch gears a little bit here, and I want to go back to the quarterback position, but something a little bit different.
Okay, so the Miami Dolphins are apparently shopping around Drew Rosen or Josh Rosen.
I just saw that, which is a very interesting move.
And he's a guy back when he was in Arizona, that where he was linked, at least through the media, to the New England Patriots.
Okay, so I got an article here on clutch points by Hunter Knoll, and I want to go through this with you, and then we can discuss this. Okay, nice.
It's called Dolphins.
Josh Rosen to the Patriots would give Bella check his Tom Brady two point.
Oh, the Arizona Cardinals selected quarterback Josh Rosen with the 10th overall pick and 20 in 2018 NFL draft just one year after just one year.
He was traded to the Miami Dolphins.
Now, after one year in Miami, Rosen might be on the move again.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins have fielded trade enquiries about the young quarterback Schefter, saying Quote the Miami with Miami's rookie quarterback to UH Taegu via Tacko Viola Healthy.
The Dolphins have fielded trade enquiries in recent days for former first round pick Josh Rosen per league sources.
In an upcoming weekend of moves, Rosen could be on the move again.
Rosen is still just 23 however.
He might be on his third team in just three years in a matter of days, and in those three years he's appeared in just 20 games.
Even worse, those 20 games have not been the most successful for Rosen.
The quarterback has a career 54.
8 completion percentage with lot with that low number, he only has 2845 passing yards and 12 touchdown passes, compared to 19 interceptions For a quarterback with so much promise, not a lot has gone right.
So maybe the New England Patriots to trade for him.
Yes, that's a really bad selling point, but could rose and be the Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick's Tom Brady.
Oh, no, We're not saying that Rosen is absolutely gonna turn into Brady, but he's the perfect type of player for ballot check to mold into a star.
Rosen has been praised for a lot of his game.
He is a cannon for an arm and has shown great touch and accuracy at times.
However, a lot of people have already given up on the quarterback and have written him off.
Sort of like how Brady was written off right when he got into the league.
Rosen has stated multiple times how he is determined to improve, and he has constantly shown a good work ethic.
Those are two things that ballot check will eat up.
It makes even more sense right now based on their roster.
The Patriots of Cam Newton net quarterback.
He's great, but he's also 31 years old on a new team on a one year deal.
There is no legitimate reason to believe he is who New England plans on keeping for their extended future share.
A Super Bowl ring might change their minds, but that's about it.
Josh Rosen is still just 23.
He has a great arm with a lot of talent.
However, he's raw.
That's a good thing, though, because he's willing to learn and be molded into a star.
And who better for that task than Belichick? In fact, a lot of people to this day still like to claim that Brady is simply a system quarterback.
He's a product of Belichick.
It will be interesting to see how he does this season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Buccaneers.
And if you silences those Doubters.
Still, there's no denying that Belichick helped turn Brady into an all time the all time great that he is today.
So why can't he do the same for the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft? A 23 year old to many saw unlimited potential from when he was entering the league.
It certainly seems worth the risk of the Dolphins likely won't be asking for too much in return for the quarterback.
If the Patriots can't get him at a good price below check has, his next project can get him at a good price.
Ballot check has his next project give new in the job this year and see how he does.
But at the same time, start molding Josh Rosen.
And in 2021 you might have a 24 year old with potentially two decades left in the game, and the 24 year old could be your next superstar quarterback.
Take the chance and see if you can get Brady two point.
Oh, by the shot Got beat that old up? Yep.
I mean, do we try to We believe in Jared Stadium enough to say, Hey, let's give stadium a chance next year.
Or do you say, Bring in Josh Rosen.
Let him let him compete for us each other.
I don't think stadiums done anything to just guarantee that if Cam Newton believes that, he should get the job, you know what I mean? I don't I don't know if he's shown us anything where it should just be given to him.
I know we were going to give it to him when there was no competition, but so you're just saying the hell with it.
Let's let's I would love to see them bring in.
I honest to God, I would love to see them bring in Josh Rosen.
I think it could be a very, um, I think it could be very interesting because I liked Josh Rosen, right? And I mean, I understand why they moved on for Kyler Murray in Arizona.
When you have the first overall pick and have the chance to take Carla Murder Carla Marie, you take Kyla Murray, and he's proven to be just a fantastic quarterback.
But I think Josh Rosen and I talked about this a lot.
Josh Rosen is a guy like he's never been in a position to succeed.
He relied on an awful Arizona team with an awful offensive line.
Then he goes to Miami, where there are is the backup.
The Fitzpatrick, you know? Yeah, he hasn't had a very good shape to this to this point in his career, and just by you reading that, I realized he's only 23.
You know, that means he's been in the league for a couple of years, but now you realize he's still really, really a kid.
No, he hasn't had a great he has not a fair shake.
It really has been onto probably the two worst teams over the past two seasons.
Ask the question, though.
Could he just be broken goods? Possibly.
I mean, there's only one way to find out.
I think it's too early when he's only 23 years old.
He's only played in 20 games in those games event with basically the two last place teams over the past two seasons.
But I think mentally there has to be an issue, right.
Like mentally, he's got confidence is probably low.
Yeah, and I mean so Okay, so put yourself.
You're you're a coach on the Patriots right now? Yep.
What do you do to try to build this kid back up to start thinking like a successful professional quarterback again? Honestly, I don't I don't know.
I don't know what to do.
I think the best thing would be to get him into a game and have him get going and actually start doing well again.
I don't see that happening in the window.
And this year, obviously, I think it's Cam new in for the next for the next season.
But I don't know what's gonna happen in 2021.
I don't know if Josh Rosen wants to play this year to you.
know what I mean? I don't know if he says, if I'm treated, I want to trade to somewhere that's going to start me.
I think if he's hit, if you get, I think he's got to be a guy that says I sit me on the bench and let me learn to be a pro and don't like Don't put him in Like I think he said They're going.
Don't put me in a position to fail.
You keep putting positions to fail and that's what I'm saying.
I don't know if he's going to say, You know, if I'm traded, I want to go somewhere I'm going to start So they send them somewhere That stinks again.
And he's right back in the same position.
Yeah, I mean, it is very possible that that could happen.
I think that see, the thing is, if Josh Rose is gonna work on the Patriots, I think there's other things that need to be taken into consideration and other things that need to happen first.
One of those things being the tight end situation.
Yeah, you know, I really believe that if the Patriots are gonna be successful, that it's the tight ends, have toe work and and the running backs have toe work because I mean morning building confidence.
Start being able to do, check down two tight ends and running back something that Tom Brady to beautifully.
And then when everybody's coming in, you hit them, you know, high upfield, all right.
It's, you know, it could lead a lot of confidence.
But what my worry is, So you bring in rows.
And next year, look, there's a very real possibility this could be Julian Edelman's final year in the NFL.
He could retire after this year.
Yeah, if he is another season like you had last year, where he's just dealing with, like, 10 injuries at the same time, he might say, The hell it is.
Is he 34? He's that used these in authorities and share.
Yeah, you might just say the hell with this. I've had a good career.
I've won three Super Bowls.
I'm finished, Right? Um, you're gonna have to address, I think, for Josh Rosen to be successful in New England, you have to address that receiving corps because he's not Cam Newton, who I believe can can make something out of nothing.
Can did that in the past.
He hasn't had great receivers ever.
No, I'm not since the Super Bowl year, right? Like he had Steve Smith and and a couple of Steve Smith.
Steve Smith on the tail end of his career, though.
Yeah, but see smells good in 2015 when he was the M v p.
They had a good team when they actually Stu Smith was pretty good right up until the ends.
They had a good team in 2015 when they went 15 and won, and he won the M V, p and all that kind of stuff.
And then and they got nailed with the You know what I call the M v p or not? I call every calls it the M V p.
Curse. Because the league M v.
Never seemed able to win a Super Bowl, Right? So I mean, you know, the Josh Rosen situation is definitely something.
I'll be following me, right, because you forget about some of these really high draft picks who just kind of get forgotten about after only a couple of years.
Yeah, no, I know.
It's ah, it's gonna be.
It'll be interesting.
It's gonna be very interesting.
Um, how you feeling about the Red Sox? What are they doing right now? They're winning. They're gonna win tonight.
Were the points wrong, right? Yes.
And I I was watching earlier.
That's when my eyes were going a little bit. I stare.
They think I took a no hitter into the seventh inning.
But I didn't realize that, you know, the Red Sox. Martin Perez.
He since gave up a hit.
But going into the second run and given up a hit, you have a movie he's given up a run to.
I think you might be out of the game right now, so but what what is? What a starker and long deciding.
I came out of left field.
The Blue Jays went out, made a bunch of trades, tried to get better, they said, Yeah, they brought in some pitching, brought in some middle infielder didn't make a difference.
Are they trying to make a run at the playoffs? You think this year Oh, you have a chance now? No, There's so many teams making it to the playoffs this year, That's the thing.
Eight teams, right? 18.
Yeah, 18 from each.
So it's almost half the league. Great.
What's the? Is there 30 two teams in the MLB as well? Yeah.
So 16 on each side. So 16.
So let's look at the wild card.
OK, so we know that we know that right now.
The Cleveland Yeah, it is.
First, Tampa Bay is first.
And the A's air first.
So that's 123 Makes sense.
The next best team is the Chicago White Sox.
The next best team after that is the Minnesota Twins.
Yep, The next best team after that is the Houston Astros.
That makes it six.
Then the Yankees, which makes it seven.
Oh, my God. Wow.
The Yankees of seventh.
The Yankees have distinctly to and currently in eighth place, the Toronto Blue Jay.
Wow, look at that.
So if the season ended today, they squeak into the playoffs.
45678 together, fifth in the wild card.
So they would sneak into the playoffs and they're 19 and 16 and Detroit is 17 and 17.
So they're like two full games ahead of them.
Wow, what Could you look at that? Wow.
You could be watching playoff baseball up there in Toronto this year.
I mean, it's been a while, right? I mean, it's it's been a while, so it's Ah, but I mean, look, the Oh, you know what, though? It's not based on wins this year, right? Is it not? Isn't it? Was.
Isn't a based on winning percentage, is it? Maybe it should be because of so many teams that aren't gonna play the entire season we've talked about before.
This is like a totally yeah, because the Cardinals are in the playoffs right now with 14 wins.
Okay, your, uh They played a lot less, right? Yeah.
And this is exactly what I was talking about, right? How How the an MLB should just scrapped their season because there's going to be a team that has less wins.
It's gonna make the playoffs.
So are currently in seventh.
Let me tell you how many teams have more wins in the Cardinals.
This will infesting the eighth place team.
Colorado Rockies have 18 wins.
Yeah, so that's the last team to be in the playoffs.
The nine place Giants have 18 wins.
The ah, Then you have the Brewers with 17 wins, the Mets with 17 wins.
The Reds with 16 wins.
So you have five teams below the Cardinals in the playoffs? Yeah, that have more wins in them.
And I'm not knocking the I'm not here to knock ST Louis.
That's not their fault.
No, I'm here to talk about how ridiculous major league baseball is. Right.
And I think you and I have both agreed that this season should have has been scrapped a long time ago.
Yeah, they're just out there.
Haven't thought that, basically, I guess.
Like if the Cardinals won the World Series this year Yeah, and let's not pretend like they aren't one of the juggernauts in baseball because they are right.
And they have been for probably the last 20 years they've been with Dr Not Based.
But there's canopy Asterix all over this championship if they wanted to.
All right, right.
I mean, there gonna have played how many games? All right now they've played 28 games.
So what are they on pace for? To play like 42 or something? probably something to that nature, please.
And some of these are some of these some of those seven inning games that they blend playing as well, because some of these games aren't even full games.
No, I know because I wanted to know what if you lose for three and a seven inning game when you could easily have won that game in the eighth of that attending, You just didn't get the opportunity to Yeah, it's ridiculous.
So the Giants, with 18 wins or right now on the outside looking in, Right.
They have played 38 games.
They've played 10 more games in the Cardinals.
Good for you, ST Louis.
We make I'm not here.
This isn't to me.
Bash on on ST Louis.
It's just the team I'm using is the example because it's the most glaring in my eyes right now.
They're not even just there in seven place.
So there two spots into the playoffs, right? Based on their winning percentage, I don't I don't know.
I feel like the MLB was like, the heck with it.
We're just gonna keep going, no matter what.
No matter what happens.
I think they were just gonna keep playing, and then they would just keep whatever rules they needed to do as they went.
They keep making him and keep changing him.
I'm just hoping that we don't see similarities to this in the NFL.
This Oh my goodness, I know, I know.
Well, it's funny, I said, though, like the n If I was on on today with SportsCastr News this afternoon and we were talking about how Roger Goodell says there's no competitive advantage to some teams having fans and sometimes not.
We're on a and I won't get into it.
If you guys want to see it, go check out Lawrence Owens Channel.
We did it this afternoon.
We had a good conversation and about my, in my opinion, why I feel there is an advantage.
But one thing I talked about was unlike the NHL, Major League Baseball N B.
A Major League Soccer.
Unlike them, I don't I think if the league had to stop plane for a significant amount of time, yeah, I don't think they can start back up.
I think if they shut down, unless it's like a one week shutdown or, you know, or a two week shutdown or something like that, where it's like, you know what? Four teams got big cases. A covert.
Let's shut down for two weeks.
Let's restart up.
If they got to shut down for more than 456 weeks, I don't think they can restart up the the amount of body preparation it takes and build up.
It's like it's like building up a picture.
You know you can't have a pitcher knock, you know, sit out spring training and then pitch opening day.
You'll blow a shoulder out.
You gotta work him up, right? Um, it's the same way with football players.
You gotta work up their bodies.
And if you missed 678 weeks like other teams did 10 weeks, I don't You're gonna need at least a month after that to get her maybe a month and a half to get guys in the game shape, because I'm sorry.
Staying at home and working out all that something doesn't keep you in football shape.
It doesn't get you ready to take a hit.
Um, so my thing is, the NFL is even though we're starting a week from today.
Yeah, I believe, is still in jeopardy of having the season cancelled, because if one team gets a lot of cove it unless the NFL's prepared to kick that team out of the league, all right, you know, and reassigned games somewhere else.
Or maybe, you know, maybe everybody loses a game to keep things competitive.
Um, unless Unless they're prepared to do that, I think that there's still a great risk of not having a season this year.
Has Goodell or anybody from the NFL come over and said what their plan is? If the team was two starts coming down with a case of cove it or what they do, is it just totally up in the air? I think it's totally up in the air, so they have no plan.
As far as we know, it was just like major league baseball.
They had no plan, right? Suddenly, it's like, Hey, you, Suddenly it was, um okay, you know? You know, ST Louis went three weeks without playing.
Well, just go by winning percentage instead.
Uh, I want to know, like, if you're gonna go by winning percentages, the team had to play a minimum amount of games like just It's just ridiculous.
Well, I know on paper they have all these plans where it's like everyone's gonna be tested like every day.
And we're gonna not let anyone do this so that but it hasn't worked in any of the three major sports so far.
Right? Someone's gotten in each thing because people have left the bubble in the MBA, right? Obviously, people in the MLB have got it, and I don't really know about the NHL.
I don't think even NHL's got it.
But I think that once you get once you get the bubble established, then you're okay.
I would have loved the NFL.
You could have easily went to Ace like you couldn't went to Florida.
You couldn't went to Texas.
You could have went places where there's multiple stadiums within proximity of each other, right, or you go toe to a state that has a bunch of college stadiums.
You have you confined lots of fields.
You could have easily bubbled your guys, your all in one compound.
You take a bus to the game, you take a bus back.
No, you know you can't see the outside world, but that's a little tougher to I mean, how long is the MBA bubble been on a month, Right? And there's, like, what? Like maybe three weeks to a month left before it's over.
How do you turn around? Say, Hey, guys, from September till February, All right, you have to be away from your wife and Children.
We're gonna put you in this, you know, bubble, unless they find a compound big enough that families can go live with them.
Right? But then if you have kids or a school aged, that's not an options.
Then you kids going to school or you got other stuff going on.
Now it's really it's really tough to put people in the bubble.
Maybe you gotta bring in teachers.
I mean, there's a lot.
Yeah, right now a lot.
They'd have to do a lot of things.
Why? I would have loved to have seen it, but I don't think they can do it right.
This all right, man, I want to do one more story here.
We got about a Well, time is a flying tonight.
We got this flying 12 minutes left.
I want to go back out Patriots if we can write it and I want to go back not to Mohammed Sunu, but to Nikkila.
Alright, I'll be honest with you.
And this came out on musket fire today on Fan Side.
It was written by Thomas.
Karen ATI is called Patriots Mohammed Sunu.
Release signals teams faith in the keel. Harry.
So I'm gonna go through them.
We can talk about it.
Okay, so it's time for Nikkila Harry to shine with Mohammed Sunu getting cut by the Patriots.
Remember when the New England Patriot fans were concerned for were concerned for a second round for a second when the keel here he was absent from training camp.
It wasn't long before Harry return became a key target for quarterback Cam Newton and quelled those concerns.
He flashed signs of potential last year in limited time.
His injuries hampered his rookie campaign.
It's not exactly easy to spend the 1st 10 weeks of the season sidelined with an injury and then get thrust into the Patriots complex offense with high expectations.
Remember, he was the only white out bill balance check selected in the first round since taking over in New England.
Now that is apparently fully healthy and establishing a promising report with Newton.
The Patriots release of Mohammad Sanu proves they're confident in Harry to take the next steps.
A big one in 2020 those Seenu is more of an inside underneath, wide out and far from specializes.
On the outside, the Pats opt in the opting to seemingly go with Dimier.
Byrd, a former teammate of Newton's in place of the former Falcon wide out, indirectly shows trust in the hairy to effectively produce alongside Julian Edelman.
Why else would they downgrade on paper with a new quarterback? And the losses of their starting right tackle, full back and tight end after the offense struggled to catch, struggled to catch on for an entire entirety last season? The only logical explanation is that the coaching staff envisions Harry making a leap during his sop****re season.
The news release had financial implications, but he was due to make 6.
5 million, and the Paths had 31 million cap space before cutting their losses.
Is there pressure on Harry, though Not really more of that is on Newton, but we previously talked about how the former Panthers quarterback would benefit Harry in a big way.
Nunes Mobility will allow Harry to break off roads and use his physicality to create separation and additional manner.
Also, Newton loves to spread the ball around, so it's not likely Harry will be relied upon to be the top guy.
Newton's new to the offense.
He doesn't have any top or favorite target yet, who knows? Maybe Harry will become one.
So did them, cutting Mohammed's news show that they have phasing to Kill Harry to take in that inside underneath stop along with Julian Edelman.
I think there's a lot to it.
I think that's definitely part of it.
Is that this Adriana Que Harry is going to be one of our guys? I think it also shows how little faith they had in say new.
I think they also wanted to dump his money off the books because he was gonna make a decent amount of money.
So I think it was a combination of like, all three of those things.
But I think that's definitely a part of it for share.
I agree on and I agreed to that.
I think a lot of it had to do with money.
Um, I'm gonna be completely honest with you.
I think that that that was Ah.
Ah, big part of it.
But I guess the other piece I need to talk about is is I think this is showing faith in the kill Harry.
Because, I mean, if you're the Patriots, I mean, if your cam Newton you you want your you want the best out there, right? And watching Mohammed's new walk away, I mean, I could imagine if that was Tom Brady, right? Like, I wonder how upset he would be if the Patriots made that move and got rid of Mohammed Sunu.
But, you know, I haven't heard Cam Newton complain about it, or there hasn't been any rumblings that he's upset with the move.
They must trust Harry, obviously, you know, it's not.
I think we can't be in a little bit different this year, and I know that some reporters were there, but it just wasn't quite the same coverages it's been in the past.
Yeah, definitely not.
I don't think we've gotten the full scope of white hair has been doing, so I can on Lee speculate.
I guess that things have been going really, really well, right? I mean, it's so difficult to actually know because it's such a minuscule amount that we're getting to see normally they would have already played off war for all four preseason games by now, right when I need, he would have got in there at least the first three I know by the fourth kind of done.
But tonight you would have seen a lot more.
I think that we probably would have finished tonight.
This would have been the last game of preseasons tonight, I think.
Yeah, I think you're right.
It was they'd usually play on Thursdays and that this would have been the last game.
And by now they would all be setting.
So it's, um I mean, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens.
It's going to really be, ah, one of those things.
What are your expectations for new keel Harry this year? Do you think he'll take that step forward? And I mean, maybe you don't have to give me yards and touchdowns, but do you think that's an improvement out of Harry this year? I think we certainly will see an improvement.
I think he's gonna get a lot more snaps to because even when he came back last year, he didn't play all that much.
He wasn't out there on a regular basis.
I think right now when they come back, it's gonna be Julian Edelman in the keel.
Harry and it's gonna be them is the 12 punch and he's gonna get his opportunities and I don't I don't know.
I can't even predict whether he's gonna have a minuscule season or an astronomical season.
I think it would probably be somewhere in the middle, but like we said, time will tell.
I think it's all gonna come down to the tight ends, to be honest with you, that's a big part of it.
So I I think that Aussie, Aussie and Keen need to produce more than the combination of Lacoste ISO in Ben.
What does that sit empty hard? That's in the heart? It all.
I would hope that they can do that.
I think you and I could do that. I agree.
I think I think we could too, and yeah and I think that that's where that's gonna be because I think it's true, like if they're targeting to kill Harry every second or third throw that it's gonna become a problem. But right.
I'm gonna go back, and I'm gonna talk about I think it's Jacob Hollister for a second.
Which was the undrafted tight end the Patriots had for a couple of years.
And then Oh, yes, they traded in his Seattle.
And I think, you know, he had a pretty solid year last year.
He came out of nowhere.
It started looking pretty good, but let me tell you, he worked in Seattle and he didn't work in New England.
Okay, um, if you watched Jacob Hollister and how we played last year and I watched Not a lot, but enough Seattle games to see it.
It's sort of see it in place, right? Yep.
He, uh, he was the perfect sort of come back tight end for Russell Wilson because Russell Wilson would extend plays and that would allow him to get off. I mean, look.
Last year with 349 yards, 41 receptions, three touchdowns.
He is three career touchdowns that came in Seattle last year, right? He's then become a superstar, but he I mean, his best numbers in New England prior to that was his 2018 season.
We had four catches for 52 yards, had four catches for 42 yards this season.
Before that in 2017 his rookie year, any of 41 catches last year in Seattle.
So they used the more number one.
What Number two? I think the big part was Russell Wilson was a big piece.
So I think with Cam Newton, who can play a similar game to Russell Wilson by extending the plays, getting out of the pocket, letting guys break off the routes, I think that that's gonna be a big improvement for everybody.
The tight ends all that.
But I think especially for nickel Harry, I think that McKeel Harry will really, um, benefit from being able to break and again like this in the article used to strength and be able to sort of break free. All right.
He should be able to get some separation.
We lost Ah, Connor.
So I'll just carry on here, so yeah.
No, no, I totally totally agree that with the article that I think that by bringing on or by cutting Mohammed Sunu, the Patriots really gave McKeel Harry a shot in the arm to say, Hey, man, you're our guy.
We used the first round draft pick on you.
You dealt with injuries last year.
Tom Brady didn't want to work with you because you were a rookie.
I mean, we all heard the stories we all knew the everything around it.
And you know what? The end of the day it is what it is, and I think that when it all gets broken down, we should see a significant leap in his game this year.
Saying that I think we also need to temper our expectations.
We can't believe that he's gonna come out and be this, you know, 1000 yard receiver.
I think if McKeel Harry finishes the year with 450 to 500 yards, that should be a That should make a lot of us happy.
I think that McKeel Harry Corner is back.
I think back I think that, you know, is much as I think he's gonna take a significant leap.
The expectation level still needs to be where he is, and that's a second or third receiver.
And again, I think 450 to 500 yards is more than reasonable to expect that.
And Akil? Harry, would you agree or disagree? Corner.
I would honestly be happy with that.
I don't expect him to have, like, an astronomical year.
But if if he can contribute pretty well, is the number two guy, I won't be upset.
It's gonna be interesting to see you.
Like you said with the tight ends, Dio and then see what the 345 guys like who emerges as somebody else who's actually going to contribute.
They have those people every year like the three and four guys and actually do something.
Yeah, I mean, it could be Jacoby Meyers could come back and really be a solid number four for them.
Um, you know, Isaiah Zuber is somebody who paid your fans like, but he's had an awful camp.
Geoff Thomas has been hurt for most a camp.
Um, I know that a lot of people still high on Ghana Rochette ski. I'm not.
And I'm not a big fan of Al Cesky.
I think I think a lot of people, just like that name No, I think that a lot of Patriot fans like to look at these guys and just grasp on straws of, you know, he's a return specialist.
He's a special guy.
He's, Ah, lesser version of Matthew Slater, right? But who knows? Maybe he comes out proved me wrong this year.
And this was the cold take of this season.
Who knows? We'll see.
I think if he does, come on, do anything.
It's not gonna be anything drastic.
It's gonna be very minuscule.
