and welcome back to SportsCastr news.
Rahmat Omar Breck talking as always, eh, NBA Action.
And we come to you on the heels of what might be one of the more surprising story lines here as some Siri's air wrapping up their first round great Game seven last night between the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets and then in the Eastern Conference, where this second round is well underway.
Two games in and the Celtics find themselves up 20 against a friendly reminder.
The defending champion Toronto Raptors.
Obviously, they look a little bit different this year, then last without Kawai Leonard.
But I think expectations again.
We're pretty high for this team.
There's a lot to get into here a little bit.
Nick nurse comes out after the fact and maybe takes.
We'll call a little bit of a shot.
I don't think it's really the case so much as as we know coaches lobby for their team and lobby with the referees on a game to game basis to make sure that they're going to get the biggest benefits going into game number three in this situation, he was quoted after the game is saying the only frustrating part is that he, referring to Tatum, shot 14 free throws in this game, which is the same number that the entire Toronto's Rapture Raptor team had.
So, you know, they took very good care of him.
Tonight was the was really the closing remarks from Nick Nurse.
So listen, shots fired.
I guess you could say it can also be for the coach of the year, just kind of trying to find a way to maybe influenced game number three and shift that balance of power there so that there's a little bit more of an opportunity.
Maybe for some of those close to go the way of Toronto, get some of their guys toe the line.
But for me, when you pull back and you take a look at this really big picture, it's It's the story of of two teams influx, Everybody said it.
And then throughout the year this season, we really started to recognize and understand.
Hey, Tatum is going to the next level here and you can you can go inside the box score here.
So we meant we already mentioned there the 14 of 14.
He goes eight of 17 from the field. Just a hair.
Ah, there under 50% in 42 minutes.
Give you 34 point performance complemented with eight rebounds and six assists.
I had the four turnovers.
That's all right.
You can live with that with everything else that's happening for you.
And listen attacking, getting at the basket, getting to the line, Getting those looks to go down for you.
Ah, you Kemba Walker, who shot six of 18 so a relatively off night for him, but had a couple of big shots there down the stretch as well.
Kicked in from player like Marcus Smart, who you know, first and foremost you wanna hang his hat on the defensive end and yet gives you a six of 13 shooting performance.
Give you 63 pointers and gives you a 19 overall.
Kicked in there from Jaylen Brown.
Um, in addition to Tatum coming into his own, I think the full cast of complementary characters here are really all kind of hitting their peak, right? They're all they're all coming together at just the right moment here for Boston and the future looks very bright for them because they still have so many these quality pieces.
Remember, they don't have Gordon Hayward here suffering another injury in that first round.
And no longer we'll be with the team the rest of the way and he becomes a free agent, potentially this offseason, Um, on Toronto side of things.
Unfortunately, I think this is the growing pains of of SIAC, um, starting Teoh.
He is the true number one, and we said on the heels of last season, where he received most improved honors, he maybe was going to be in line to receive it again this season.
And yet something that you weren't gonna understand or learned over the course of the first round series against Brooklyn because of all of the lack of players injuries, positive tests, etcetera for Brooklyn.
It wasn't a riel matchup or a real test for Toronto there, and they're able to work through that Siri's with relative ease.
Siachen 6 to 16 shooting one of four from downtown on.
Lee gets the line four times, so maybe that's Tunic.
Nurses point about whether or not some of the plays were deserving of trips to the free throw line, but 17 points eight rebounds.
It's not a bad line, but as the considered now number one on this roster, you need to start to take it into that. Next year.
You need to go next level here in the playoffs, and we've seen that.
That's in Utah. Nuggets.
Siri's that just wrapped up.
Ah, Utah, Denver there.
Where? Murray? Maybe all of a sudden.
Hey, guess what? You have that other player that you weren't sure.
100% he emerges.
You obviously see Donovan Mitchell asserting himself in a whole new way.
And maybe he and Goldberg, in spite losing that that matchup there actually go into the off season and next season feeling a little bit stronger about themselves than maybe they did with all the issues there.
So this is what's going on inside of these playoffs and for Toronto, Remember? You know, we look inside those numbers.
They're just 21 minutes for Gasol.
Ends of fouling out in this 16 just eight points on two of four shooting, two of two at the line.
Sorry, just six points on the evening, four rebounds.
It's a quiet night for him and you're seeing him get old before our very eyes.
Ah, player who had a lot of success in that Brooklyn Siris was Ibaka, and even though he gave you 17 points in this one, shot 7 to 12 3 of five from deep nine rebounds.
You know, he did a lot of positive things, but I would probably wonder is, does the switch right now need to get made? If your neck nursing, you throw Ibaka into the starting rotation, you give up a little bit of size.
But I just think that the threat that he is right now because he's knocking down the perimeter shots the way that Castle is not currently and the athleticism of the Celtics maybe is always going to present foul trouble issues.
For a player like Gasol, you're gonna have to make a switch.
You're immediately going to Game three because down, oh, to obviously get down.
03 you can all but write it off.
And right now, maybe this Siri's is already over its transition time, I think for Toronto, right? Siachen is gonna need these lumps this year so that next year he understands it.
The evolution of his game.
He'll come in that much more prepared for it and understanding what it takes to not only be the playoffs.
We know he's on the championship team last year, but now it's about you leading this team.
And that's the difference that we're seeing here.
You know Kyle Lowry Going five of 16 doesn't help.
You ate a 22 for Van Fleet.
So that backcourt court that ends up combining for 35 points not going to do not gonna be enough, because where else are you looking for when you have to? Solving a very quiet night and woe be actually steps up in a big way and give you 20 points on 7 to 12 Big three pointers for him.
So starting lineup minus Castle, you could flip flop that with Ibaka and say, You're basically on par.
I just think on the Boston Celtics side of things the defensive presence and a***en, the continuity with this roster, everything's clicking.
And if you want to go like for like and saying, Tatum is the is the the ascending player for Boston.
Obviously he's outperforming, and he's more prepared for the spotlight right now than it looks like.
See, Aacm is I don't know what else you can.
You know what other adjustments you're gonna look to make here.
I still think I know you have some people saying, Well, you know, we go ahead.
The series is over.
I I still look and say, Toronto is gonna come out here.
They're going to go ahead and get you that that victory in game number three.
And then everything will be on the line going to game number four again.
The conversations that Nick is having postgame the messages, they saying the referees, I think you'll see some players whether it is going to be Siachen or not.
Maybe it's going to be the likes of Kyle Lowry, who, you know, if he got to the line any time.
Six of 807 from deep.
There's a reality there and again.
When you have a Marcus Smart on the other side, you can mix and match and move him around the floor.
I just think that the Boston really matches up nicely against Toronto on what they can do offensively, and if you can start to stymie them a little bit there, then all the sudden things open up for you and This is still a 102 99 game.
It came down to the wire here, so that's why again, I don't think that you're you write off this Siri's and say that the story's already closed.
Game number three becomes enormous.
I think you'll see the championship caliber Toronto Raptors show up there, and I do think that before this is all said and done, Siachen will show you some of that big playability.
Some of those leadership qualities he will take over a game here.
I think in this series, I just don't know if it's going to be enough.
And if you have enough of the horses when you see Gasol playing the way that he is right now, that's that's pretty glaring.
If Gasol is not playing quality minutes for you and giving you a better performance than what he gave in game number two, then you continue to find yourself on the losing end of a lot of this contest.
Just 27% from deep, by the way, for Toronto in this So they hang their hat on that three point shooting again.
Is Lowry gonna go over seven again from beyond the arc. Not likely.
Even with this goes, the defense's for Boston. I don't think so.
So you know that's a small change that can shift things there.
He and Van Fleet combined just three of 19 from beyond the arc, so that tells a big part of the story.
16 to 19 at the line.
So they knocked down their opportunities when they got there 23 or 25 for Boston.
So, you know really inside of that Nick Nurse commentary.
I don't know if that really holds as much weight now, when those foul calls air coming and how they start to stack up on Boston Side could be a factor.
But at the end of the day, you got out scored in the third quarter, 30 to 20 and ah, sorry, You outscored Boston 30 to 20 in the third quarter and then lost the fourth quarter 30 to 21.
So, um, balance consistency for Toronto.
That's the factor there.
And whether or not Lowry getting himself into rhythm here, he had some injured, a little bit of minor injury tweaks there in the first series against against Brooklyn.
So could that be playing a factor we won't know until it's all said and done.
Ah, and then see Aacm.
That's obviously the case here.
You know he can't go.
The six is 16 and the one of four from deep four for four from the line.
That's the see that you're trying to plan.
If you're Nick, Nurse, get Siachen attacking downhill, get him or looks going to the basket and then get some of those foul calls on the interior.
But listen, I'm surprised I'll say that I'll say that much again.
Game three is going to really tell me a lot more about where this Siri's is headed.
Um, some of this could have been a coin flip here in the second game.
First game, we all know, was a big blow out there.
So I think Nick Nurse, obviously Coach of the Year he's gonna make those adjustments.
We know Brad Stevens is a high level ah coach as well, so this is a chess match, and now we'll see what what changes and tweaks Nick Nurse tries to make going into Game three, and when he makes those and gets those what? How does Brad Stevens counteract that and how does this pendulum swing? A little bit, But there's still a lot inside the margins here.
As far as I'm concerned, I just think that right now Boston has all of the athleticism, defense, defense, length to really match up nicely here.
And it kind of comes down to the bigs and ultimately the play of SIAC, Um, and then this backcourt.
So, you know, I don't know if Game number three then writes the story and says, Hey, Boston is doing it to you because there's been bad shooting performances now in back to back games for key players for Toronto.
If it happens again in Game three, then I think it's official.
Otherwise, maybe you just you'll be able to chalk it up and say off nights, things weren't quite finding their rhythm there. It will be exciting.
Later tonight we got another Game seven coming your way with O. K.
I thought that game I thought, That's years is all but over.
So credit, of course, O.
And Chris Paul for leading that.
They're getting them tied up in that.
Siri's Russell Westbrook struggled, so that's gonna be exciting Oneto watch as well and listen down the road.
The N B A playoffs are offering a ton off just fantastic games here on the docket.
And we talked about today here, just getting into it as well.
Remember, prior to that Game seven matchup is, of course, can then going to be at 6 30 that that second game with Milwaukee and Miami Milwaukee down No.
So all of the sudden as it stands right now, we're building our way towards Boston Celtics Miami Heat Eastern Conference finals.
Maybe you had Boston possibly going, but Miami would be would certainly be a surprise you and again.
A lot of great coaches near with Spoelstra with nurse with but with but who had to see if he can make some adjustments here? Because this goes back to last year and the deficiencies of that team.
And then, of course, you got Brad Stevens there as well.
So a lot of great coaching, a lot of great continuity and talent collectively, especially in the Eastern Conference, these four games, a lot of familiar with these players, so fun to see how those relationships are evolving and how they're able to execute down there in the bubble.
Stay tuned for all of us here with map Brooks and Keith McPherson.
Simeon Russell myself Adam Arm wreck.
Doing our thing covering the fantastic, eh? NBA playoffs all the way through will be back soon.
Talking exactly that.
