I'm graft the blood from clusters board zone and welcome back to another SportsCastr and we are along with that gentleman and Samuel Rea some.
We're here to talk about you starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Feeler.
One. Ben Roethlisberger tires.
Well, we'll get that answer in a few minutes.
So guys and enjoy it.
Summer answers might be completely crazy, and we'll be looking a couple years down the road, but I hope you join nonetheless.
All right, So what, uh, people wants to start and go right ahead? Yeah, I guess I'll start off so big.
Ben is entering his 17 season in the NFL, and he's not getting any young.
He's 38 years old, and it's definitely time for the students to start looking for a franchise to be.
Let's start with their backup QB's, in my opinion, yet he's back up.
TV's are not gonna bring the Steelers to the playoffs, so I think the Steelers head coach and hosted lives organizations you know, wants a Q B that will bring them to the playoffs.
So if they're back up to be scampering them to the playoffs, they are not the right pick That's Delvin Hodges and Mason Rudolph.
They both played last year.
Rudolph played in 10 games.
Um, Hodges played in eight games, and they have.
They finished with an 88 record now, fun fact, guys, if this new NFL rule where there is now seven teams in each conference making the playoffs, that happened last year, the steals that have actually made the playoffs.
So let's let's start now.
Big Ben got injured last year.
We to this year.
He's fully healthy, and obviously I think he's gonna be the starting TV Week one.
But again, he's old, and it's time to look for a QB for your future.
So let's start with the free agents QB's next season.
It's time to look at, you know, the free agent block for next season, and I'm gonna start with James Winston.
He signed a one year contract with the Saints.
I think he's a very good you know.
He throws a lot of interceptions.
I think he's a good Q B.
I actually and more high on him than many other people because they just look at him as a back to you because those intersections.
But he will lead the NFL in past year olds.
Obviously, not this year, because he's the backup QB, but he would be good on the stewards they have.
Eric Ebron introduced Misuse Store, and that's why I had the Steelers making the playoffs this year with Big Bank.
But another choice.
Okay, I know everyone says he's bad, but I understand the steel of several weapons.
They are better offensive team, right? The Bears have a great defense, but Travis Key has nothing to do with the defense now.
Robiskie was a Pro Bowler in 2018.
Any Keagle? Forget that.
So I think he'll be good on this on the Steelers for the future, right? You don't know a big Ben's gonna retire after this season if he's gonna retire in two seasons but still go after Travis Key.
He'll be a free agent in 2021.
So I have this do was making the playoffs is a wire card.
Obviously, you're in the division with the Ravens.
So what, you gonna dio Big Ben should be around the top 15.
I haven't like the 15 sq be this season, but Robiskie James once said, You're not going to go after anyone in the draft.
You know, if they make the playoffs this year, they're not gonna have a high draft pick, and there's no reason to trade up to get a good draft.
Just go after free.
It's James Winston Travis Key.
There's Tyrod, Taylor Fitzpatrick.
Those are not franchise Q B's.
I know Travis Key and ones that are not that young.
But there are gonna give you five years.
At least that is my You know how.
Take Robiskie, which I think is a hot ticket because many people think he sucks.
I think I think, you know, they should go after him and James Winston.
People think he's bad. Some people think he's good, such as me.
Yeah, all right, well, I guess I'll give you my take on the situation with the Steelers.
I I do agree with some of the points Isaac made.
I definitely agreed.
The fact that I don't think you know, you can go with an in house quarterback in Ah, because what we've seen from Hodges and Rudolph, I just haven't been overall impressed.
I mean, both them have had, like, a game.
Now and then that they were pretty decent.
But other than that, I just I've been underwhelmed by both of them, so I definitely think you've got to look elsewhere.
And yes, Isaac was mentioning that Big Ben is getting up there in age.
So it's not that the Pittsburgh Steelers an immediate rush Tau, you know, find that next quarterback in future years.
T make this team a legit playoff team and a contender in the A F. C.
You know, in the near future, but he is getting up there in age.
If you're the Steelers, you do have to start looking at you know what options or maybe the best for you and I would look into free agency as well.
And Jamis Winston is the guy I would go for if I were the Steelers.
I think I think Winston is.
I think he's a good quarterback.
I mean, obviously, the amount of interceptions he thrown he threw was absolutely insane, but he's He has a one year deal right now with the Saints.
I think he's a coachable quarterback.
I think he can improve.
And yes, as Isaac said, you know he's not super young, but he is only 26 years old, so I think he can give you Ah, solid.
You know, 56 years down, the down the road.
And I'm honestly a little bit surprised.
I thought, you know, when Jameis Winston became a free agent over this offseason that the Steelers were the best destination for him.
But the Saints ended up getting him.
It is just a one year deal.
So I really think, uh, you know, Pittsburgh might believe that Ben Roethlisberger will be here for at least a couple more years, maybe two years at, ah, at a minimum, in my opinion.
And I don't know if you'll if you'll go three more years, I think I think they should go for Jamis. Winston.
I really do, because he's gonna have a year in a good Saints organization where he's gonna be the backup.
He's gonna learn from Drew Brees.
He's gonna have a good coach and Sean Payton.
I think he's willing to learn.
And then I think after this year will be ready to make the jump over the Pittsburgh Now Big Ben will probably still, you know, be aiming to be he'll be there to be the starter for probably another year, so he's not gonna lose the starting job easily.
But I think you know that would be good competition in the Steelers organization.
And I think I think Winston could be come out and then, especially when Ben Roethlisberger is, you know, is done and ultimately retires because he is getting up there in age.
I think Jamis Winston is your best bet going forward.
He can give you a good 56 years.
He is a good quarterback.
I think he can really revived his career in a sense.
And I think that Stewart's organization is a good.
That's a good team to be with for Jamis Winston.
Because there that is a solid team and with a good quarterback that Pittsburgh Stuart's team could do big things.
They have a lot of good young players, as Isaac mentioned.
So in my opinion I'd go with Jamis Winston.
I think he's your best bet going forward for the Steelers.
I wouldn't look at the draft.
I wouldn't go with Hodges, um or Rudolph.
I look in free agency and I think Jamis Winston would be the best bet picking up next summer.
Well, here's the thing.
And I'm gonna get into my second.
And I was gonna go over lists, a few players, so I thought the Steelers may have picked up for again to the one in Mexico.
The guy you left league and passing yards was that Believe second or third in touchdown passes.
Also love league interception by their think with a coach like on my Tomlin could certainly limit those turnovers as, of course, used more or not.
That's a coach, I think he would exact.
And you think Kim Swanson would be a good bit? It's very.
I also think you, Kobe her set would be another freak.
If in Pittsburgh, as you know, we shown classes in New England and Indianapolis, I think it be officially gets the starting role again, like a true starting role.
Not like Indianapolis, where okay, Plentiful Cesme.
Andrew Luck was injured.
I'm getting the full, you know, give him two or three years to really lead a team bill playoffs, which I think the Steelers honestly are, especially with problems Burger.
So I imagine what percent their prices will be in playoff race.
Probably making in.
Certainly interesting there, but I'm gonna get to my quarterback and No, don't worry.
Ordell's, but I gotta gotta gotta get the elf another room.
Here, get him up.
We're gonna already don't like you'd be here.
All right? I'm looking, Ellie, these two years.
Oh, and so here's my prediction.
I think the Steelers in the 2022 draft a guy make a blockbuster trade or Sam Donald.
Now, here is why.
Because last year, yeah, he had a winning record 76 record over 3000 passing yards.
30 years have been.
Surely, interceptions can go down a little bit, but overall, you shall clashes.
So far, I got be honest.
I think the Jets are immediately losing.
Behold, open this guy.
Especially if the Jets do bad next year, which I think it certainly be the case.
I think the Steelers, they're gonna wanna go after your quarterback at that point, even be even younger than Winston.
And you know what sought that truck win again? I didn't get old throttle here to, you know, just getting the starring role, and I think you'd run off and do well with that.
That's to make you so.
Probably have James Connor and a bunch of other very good running backs in the back.
Smith, Schuster Use love on DeAndre Johnson may even have Ryan Switzer and, in my opinion, next year's pending free agent Dede Westbrook.
I think it's got some with Pittsburgh as well.
So overall, you know you would have the offense around him and the Steelers defense isn't going anywhere.
At that point, I'd be a defensive player of the gift candidate.
Immune already is.
And I imagine the secondary will get that report me that Patrick and young corners So I could easily see Sam Donald really doing well in the Steelers US system.
I'm gonna have to disagree.
I think the dress they really want to hang on the same down they, you know, they love Sam.
Gagner him out of fact.
I know Adam gazes a Togo coach.
I think just the Jets organization and whole just love Sam Donald that they wouldn't get ripped and Sam Gagner vitamin.
He looks bad, and that's just because the Jets have one of the worst offense of lines on the leak, they don't have any weapons.
I mean, Robbie it at a breakout year last year.
Look, at this year.
I mean, Breshad.
Perriman is, in my opinion, the I don't know the words, but he has to be bottom five for worst Wider Secret once, right? Totally.
He's not a bad writer score, but for a wide receiver, one on a team, he's one of the rules.
And I have to admit, so Sam Donald looks bad.
He's not as bad as you looks because Jeff says don't have a good, uh, surrounding pieces around him.
But I don't think you know they're gonna go after a trade.
I think you just get a sign for agents, but let me just give you some names that they won't go up.
I think Cam Newton is gonna have a good deal with the Patriots.
The Patriots will re sign him.
I know it's a one year deal.
I think the Patriots are recent Cam Newton and Dak Prescott.
There's no way the Steelers are gonna pay the money that Dak Prescott wants.
I definitely agree with that.
I don't think he's leaving Dallas any time soon.
Yeah, I I agree with that point, but just going to I'll start off with Jacoby beset the point Grant made about him.
It's an interesting one, Jacoby Brissett.
I mean, I wouldn't completely rule it out, but I still do think Jamis Winston is probably more likely.
I mean, Jacoby were set.
He has shown some glimpses of what he could do, you know, with New England when that year, when Brady was suspended for the first four games, then Garoppolo got injured in percent one.
And for I think it was two games before Brady came back, he was He was pretty decent in those two games.
He has been a pretty good quarterback in Indianapolis, too.
I'm just not sure if he would be, you know, the type of franchise guide going board for the Steelers.
I don't know what how old Jacoby Brissett is.
I'm not exactly sure, but I I haven't seen enough magical we've ever set.
And once again we're talking right now.
In the summer of 2020 we're talking about what it looks like.
12 years down the road for Pittsburgh.
So, you know, maybe my opinion could change on this, depending on you know what, What pans out this year, but the reality is process going to still be a backup.
So I don't think my opinion will change that much on him.
I wouldn't rule it out completely.
It's an interesting point that Grant brings up.
Um, but I just feel like Jamis Winston is, Ah, better possibility.
And I think they would have a better chance of being a team that could go deep in the playoffs with them on the point of Sam.
Donald, I don't know.
I've been really disappointed with Donald quite honestly.
And yes, he doesn't have, you know, the best weapons with that New York Jets team, and they have a bad coach in Adam Jason's.
Well, I just felt like, you know, every he's been alright in some games, but I feel like every big game that Sam Donald was in, he just, you know, whether it was Monday Night Football against the Patriots, their ah, big you know, Thursday night game.
I feel like he just always, he always disappointed.
Of course, he'll always be known for that comment.
Ah, I'm seeing ghosts.
When he was miked up in that Monday night game against the Patriots.
Self, I feel like, honestly, the Jets will go forward with him.
I don't know if you know the Jets will want to keep him long term.
I think that really depends on out.
He does this season, but then again, I mean, I think I don't know what teams would wanna pick him up if he had another poor season in the Jets, you know, moved on from him because I feel like this is yes, he's early on in his career, But for whatever reason, I get the feeling with Sam.
Darling, this is a This is a guy who already, you know, kind of lost confidence, and he's been off to such a poor start to his career.
I don't know if he really be ready as well for the big spotlight of being the number one quarterback.
Come forward for a Pittsburgh team who will be expected to make the playoffs and go deep into the playoffs.
So both of the factors where I'm not sure if Pittsburgh would want to go for Sam Donald.
And also the fact that I don't even know if Sam Donald will have enough, you know, confidence and be willing toe take on that number one starting position with that much pressure, you know, in a team where they will be expected to make deep playoff runs.
I think his career could you even more downhill if that's the case.
So I don't know, Sam Darla is a tricky one for me.
You know, I could change my mind if he has a great season this year, but once again, if he does have a great season this year, I think the Jets will be holding onto him.
So that's why I still say the most likely, uh, most likely quarterback they pick up will be Jamis Winston because I think it just pans out perfectly because, you know, because we all know you know he's gonna be at the Saints.
It's a one year deal as the backup.
He's gonna learn in a good organization like that, and then he'll be a free agent next next summer, and I think the stewards would be the best option for him and the best option for Pittsburgh going forward if they want to be a winning team, you know, 56 years down the road.
I just I want opinion on I two sides my first side.
I don't think the Steelers want you call. Whoever set.
If they do, I think it's actually gonna be easy to attain.
Per set does look as a longer set is the backup QB, right? Philip Rivers, who, as you know, he's one of the order of PBS.
But he has the longest active consecutive game streak in the NFL, right? He does, you know, As you know, you may think he's old.
You may think he's gonna get injured.
I don't want a column injury prone just cause he hasn't had an injury and what, like eight years? You know what I'm saying? So, first set, I don't think we're re signed with the coats.
I mean, it's a possibility because Rivers is almost, you know, about to retire like Big Ben.
But I think we're set, you know, if the steals want him, I actually think percent will easily and I say easily in capital letters.
Easily go to the steals.
But I just don't think the steel is the one.
You definitely bring up a good point there said at times, Yeah, angry can be a little bit underwhelming.
I love about the dog real quick sand are you guys are both like, oh man, you just want keep him.
And for the moment, I agree.
But my philosophy was Donald, you can't does what he did last year like not horrible seasons.
Not really that good.
This chips will keep our shoes in.
The Jets will keep him for two more years.
Then the franchise.
Tag him on the flip at the draft.
That was just my thought process.
And I think Rothbart will be gone.
The sealer shouldn't stick with Hodges or Ruutel.
Did you go over sets Another one that could be out there.
Really? You guys spotting jape Winston is certainly a possibility as well, since he's young and we know he can already swing the ball.
I mean, he just Well, Chris got when it might givens in the Imagine what to do with juice.
This shoes turned the update concert, right? So you'd be free much doing just as good.
So a very interesting question.
And I hope he has enjoyed it because we just simply don't know gamble with this year's and next couple years because one Ben Roethlisberger tires.
You think I got them all right, so there's gonna draft someone, and then this may be pointless.
But who's to say in a couple of years in the future? So what can I say about that? I enjoyed it.
You guys want to say anything else before we head off? I mean, I think that Travis Key could actually go to the SEALs.
I think that's why they drafted.
Next up, not drafted him, but signed Nick Foles.
I feel like that.
The Signing and Nick Foles, um, really gives Travis Key more of a chance of leaving, Obviously, is a free agent, so he has a big right of leaving.
But again, you, of course you can re sign, you know, Travis Key, But I think because the bear said Nick foes, you know, again like I said falls into Biscuit.
Who's better? It's really close.
I want to give it to travesty.
But anyway, I think that those going to Chicago, um, really helps Travis Key, you know, believe in free agency And even if the Bears, Notre Brisky is better than foes, I still think that you know they're gonna keep bulls and get another name such as Maybe if it's catch and orphans project.
Maybe do one or two more years.
But again, you have fools in Fitzpatrick and it falls.
Gets in your view, happens.
Patrick Fitzpatrick is injured.
You have goals, so I know there to below average starting QB's.
But when you have two of them, the back of TV, whether it's been Spatula foes, turns out to be a top 10 backup in the NFL.
I mean, I definitely thought it was a very good question to bring up in topic.
To discuss its very intricate was a very interesting topic to talk about.
I definitely think, and once again, you know, right now it's the summer of 2020.
We're talking a few years down the road, so definitely it would be interesting.
You know, Remember the stream our opinions we could be proved to be, you know, silly or we could be, you know, geniuses at the end.
So, yeah, I'm definitely interested to see how that plays out in Pittsburgh because it's definitely a very intriguing topic.
And yeah, I think I think they'll be interesting to see how the Steelers approached that going forward.
Yeah, all right.
But I hope you enjoy washing out. SportsCastr.
