Stall back on Sports Gastronomical in our sports network, The first major of 2020 concluded on Saturday.
And there's a lot to cover so much what happens in this tournament.
Um, it was just a really fun time.
I was really excited, and I'm gonna talk a little bit of doubt, you know, kind of how the tournament concluded.
How did they do? You know, the cut line and future projection print predictions for, uh, called more Kyle, who won the tournament.
Um, and I will maybe take a look at our next major championship, which is, um, the U S Open.
So first off, this tournament started on Thursday, and I went to Sunday from the six to the night this playoff Harding Park in San Francisco.
Not for those of you who don't know theme Major schedule got switched up this year because the cove in 19 so most of time.
This is the fourth and final major this come around.
There was the it was the first.
So it was, you know, interesting to see this one being the first warning as its room with third um, but, you know, just like every major, all the stars came out and they perform. They did.
So we're gonna start with the guys who, unfortunately didn't make the cut so that the way the cut line works for those who aren't familiar with golf is you.
Have you? This time around, there was 156 golfers.
So if you're on the bottom 50% your get cut after two rounds and it just to make the it's just to make it smaller, Um, for the next few ranchers, four rounds, um, some key players that did get cut there really wasn't too many of them, to be honest with you.
And that's that's it could, by the way, Sergio Garcia, who on them access a couple of years back, did not making the cut.
He struggled shooting 73 which was three over both around six overs.
Not gonna make a cut in a major tournament and really, aside from Sergio Garcia and the only other guy really got cut was unfortunate.
We all know Rickie Fowler just such a great golfer.
He's won numerous times in his career.
He just can't win the major.
And there's four major shows you don't know.
Um, so really, I was really pulling for rookie to see if he could off when this time, unfortunately, could not make the cut.
He went three over on the first round.
He went one under, uh, one under par on a second.
But that was not enough to make the cut.
The cut line, I believe.
Waas one under two under.
Um So those are the rules? Only two guys that I think are the key guys that you guys should take a look at who got cut in this tournament.
Now we're gonna go to the guys who made the cup.
Ruined it before kind of your expectations.
It starts out with Phil ****elson.
Obviously, um, you know, he had his only under par round was on Friday, which obviously saved him for making the cut shot 72 on Thursday.
Then went 69 then 70 even par.
And then on on something, he struggled a little bit.
I'm going three over, but all over all finished tied for 71st with Bubba Watson, and gosh gets to know his name is he's a good golfer.
Um But is his middle rounds just not really up to car? Um, I don't know.
Pun intended Usher was 71 on on Friday and then a 73 on Saturday, being tougher semi person as well and also talked for 71st is Jordan speed.
Now, for those of you who don't know, George Casey bursted onto the scene back in 2016 on it.
He won three majors.
Um, and this was the tournament.
He needs his PGA Championship that he needs to complete the career Triple Crown.
You know, he's won the Masters in the U.
Open is even with the British Open or the Open.
He really just needs two in this one.
He did not perform shooting a 73 on on Friday, but the worst run I think he had by far with shooting a 76 on Saturday.
He really did struggle.
Um, but it all on the on the plus side.
Hey did play better.
She didn't three under the next day, so he made his adjustment ***ual.
We like to see from Jordan speak the next major that he could essentially, what is the U.
Open? So Shane Larry who won the Open last year? Um, it just kind of average nothing, really too much to talk about head.
And then we're gonna go into some of our bigger guys a PR top of the leaderboard.
All we're going to start off with. Justin tops.
She didn't want under religious an average tournament for head.
Um should accept anyone one over and that shouldn't even than two under.
And then even again, just an average tournament for JT.
There's the best.
Nothing bad being tied for 37th.
Also tied for 37th.
I'm pretty sure you guys know his name is pretty popular around here.
Um so you had a great a pretty promising opening round, shooting two under, having the birdies and then back to background shooting two over.
That kind of brought him out of contention, but he came back on Sunday and this Sunday.
Red shooting three under, obviously then giving him a finishing stroke, one under for the entire tournament.
Time for 37 is not terrible, but he wasn't really ever in contention in my eyes.
Um, you know, he has a lot of work to do, In my opinion, the playoffs are coming.
There's two more majors left in 2020.
Um, I don't know how he's gonna fair, because I think he's gonna have to play another tournament, maybe even to, um to get ready for the U S.
Open. And that's gonna be tough for tire.
You can't have the back stiffen up anything like that, because it's not gonna be good.
So I'm pulling for Tiger.
The whole Gulf world is, But you know he's gonna have Teoh step it up a little bit.
And then the former world number one, Rory McIlroy um Akinci never storm arose that we're looking at these guys specially tiger J t on Rory.
It's really just pretty consistent rounds all across the board shooting 70.
That's even and then one under, then went over and then to London, Um, talk for 33rd with, um, not to any notable guys.
Um, you know, it's not all flautist.
We expect more because front during the entire restart on during the entire break period, he waas um, he was the world number one, and now I believe out I'll check the rankings right now.
Rory McIlroy struggling a little bit.
Um, Rory McIlroy is the number three golfer right now, so he's definitely split a little bit.
But obviously the one being Jon Rahm, um then Justin, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson And that more Kalla who wanted sinister kept good to shambo Patrick Corey, though.
I mean, there's a lot of great golfers here, um, so back to our back to our recap right here.
I did not know why.
Just cooked on college football.
Um okay, that back on and right there.
Okay, so we're back now.
Um, so really, So far, we've covered clashes.
You there struggled or just kind of mediocre.
Now I feel like that some guys played really well, None other than Brooks Kepco.
Um, first rounds were amazing shooting a 66 on Thursday at four under.
And then you look at 68.
Uh, that's one under, and he was really in contention.
I think he was the second or third to last group on Sunday.
Unforced, reduced to just seven before.
You know, I'm gonna try to bring up is scorecard yet here is so back to back.
He had bogeys on 2789 16 18 with only two birdies.
Uh, that's not really gonna win you anything. I gotta be honest.
How? Maney bogies.
That 123 or Fox 66 bogeys really isn't really gonna cut it if you're trying to win a major tournament.
Kept struggled, um, in round four.
But you look at his run.
One Onley, two bogeys around to also two bogeys as well and then ran 33 bogeys so formed through the only brand that Brooks kept a struggling.
He does have that knee injury.
Um, with the left knee surgery that I think he's still trying to recover from, by the way, Um, so So I don't think that's anything, uh, to worry about, since he's staying in contention for three rounds.
Hey, he was leading this tournament.
He was up there with some of the top guys.
Uh, so I really don't think it's a problem.
Um, but I definitely for kept going.
I think on that fourth round, something happened in his knee because he was playing three rounds of Great Gulf.
And, you know, we kind of just lost it a little bit in the fourth.
Friend will see if you can do better in the U. S. Open.
I started off some guys who finished in the top 20.
Well, actually, in the top of team, we're gonna go.
We're gonna cover each the rest of our golfers firm from 13 all the way to our top.
So none other at 13 was on Jon.
Rahm, John. Wrong.
He smoke into contention here, shooting even right around one.
And that just one under and many want to.
Under they were four.
Under which road, but first him up on Moved him up in the standings, giving him a tough into slot the world number one and finishing in the top 15.
I would say it's a successful tournament for Jon Rahm.
Now, I'm gonna go to our one of our Masters winners, Patrick Reed.
Um, sit for him.
Honestly, Um, just kind of average for the 1st 3 rounds.
Should have 68 then even and then one under again.
But again, that 66 breed and rob both shooting a 66.
That really helped them get into the top 15.
Now we're gonna go into the top 10 presenter softly shooting eight under.
Um, the now order.
Start seeing some low scores here on on Thursday, shooting a 66.
That was his best round shooting even.
Um, and Shockley.
He was that he had a lot of bogeys and a lot of, um a lot of birdies as well.
You know, you look at his round scores except around to where he had two birdies and two bogeys.
Teoh level out, even and around one, um, he basically part of the entire back United, except for a birdie on set.
Um, So, Shockley, they're very consistent.
Golfer in my eyes and finishing top to this huge for Xander.
All this confidence and stuff will see what you can do. The U.
S Open and the only player to finish nine under finishing knife is none other than Justin Rose, who I think is definitely one of the more and my underrated golfers, even though you know your stuff with older.
But right now he's not young by any stretch.
Um, you know, he's he's been good to say the least.
I'm gonna be honest again.
Having he struggled on this was the difference in my eyes.
Um, it was really for me.
Um, that that double bogey on third seen giving him those two strokes.
Because if you didn't know globally that he could have hard Earth and Boby, we would have seen him in the top spot.
Um, so I think that really was the only mishap for Justin Rose shooting 66 on the first time.
You can't really do a better than that.
We did have a few 65 at the top of this leaderboard.
Um, but then, you know, 68 67 Justin Rose played very well.
Now we're gonna go into our top five toe.
Bryson de Shambo.
Um, what a great golfer he is.
Uh, guys, he shot back to back 66 around three and run for his only real this half waas on round two, in which she had bogey on 369 12 and 15.
That's a lot of Bogans right there.
But Bryson, he's definitely I mean with the driver.
Everything like that will take a look at his tournament stats.
He averages 318.
Um, And what with the accuracy is 51% of his fairways.
That's I would say That's pretty good to put that into perspective.
He It's about 44% of his fairways.
So is that is that helps you guys any at all.
Johnson or Excuse me, Bryson.
He no, no Eagles on.
There wasn't really Human Eagle site from a very big one.
They're 25 birdies, 13 bogeys, finishing 10 under, finishing in the top five highest major finishing his career. He's rude.
Burst onto the scene.
In my opinion, he's been a great great player to watch and a very fun player.
I want you guys to watch him.
When you're watching golf, we're gonna go to two more.
Top four finishers will start on from Tony Female, who is actually playing really well.
Hey, is 30 but you know, he's a great putter.
Ah, you know, he's He's really one putting almost every single time he's going out there 1.
7 parts per grain.
So party is definitely his strength.
And the short game wins you tournaments.
So, Tony Finau, I mean, shooting 60.
All right, we're gonna take a look at the scores here because you have 67 to 60 70 to 66 not all bad rap to a lot of players.
Struggled in my when you look at me now seventies de Shambo 70 Schefter 71.
Um, but these guys turned around and the other ramps, that's really was gonna win you tournaments.
So we're gonna go to our final fourth place finisher.
That's none of in the Aussie Jason Day, the 32 year old broody playing.
Well, I'm glad you came into contention here because it's been tough to wash him the last few the last few years.
She hasn't really.
He's played well, but yes, it really you know one too much.
If you look at Jason Day, I'm gonna see, um, really, which tournaments? That he's one.
We're gonna take a look at it.
Uh, obviously use the runner finish at the U. S. Open.
He has one of major, by the way, guys, um, he 22 of those ones coming on a playoff hole.
So you look at Major's, uh, his major ones who won the 2015 PGA Championship.
So he's not far away.
Um, and he's had a lot of top tens.
Um, 2018 was a struggle for him.
2019 to finished top five in the Masters.
Um, and then it's a good start for a very good start, I would say for Jason Day.
So we're gonna look at the rest off his, Um, what other tournaments that he has won his went to you for 12 times on the PGA Tour.
We'll take a look at this, obviously, the PGA on.
Then you feel BMW, Arnold Palmer, Wells Fargo, Farmers Insurance twice and he RBC Canadian farmers.
I mean, he's he's played very good in his career, but he hasn't won.
They don't want it on 2019 and I don't know if he was gonna win intonations.
Last one came on May 6 2018 at the Lost Fargo.
So now I'm gonna go into our top 22 players wrote.
We got through my players to cover your Johnson Paul Casey, and I wouldn't call my column.
So Dustin Johnson, very consistent all across the board, shooting a 69 67 Brown three.
I'm a pope is short card, 65.
He birdied almost every single hole, even when he had a double bogey online Bernie on 2457 10 14 15 and 17 five under.
And that's what that's gonna win you tournaments.
Okay, I'm glad that Dustin Johnson use playing a lot better now, and he only had eight bogeys all tournament long.
That's how that's what's gonna win you tournaments, and that's what's gonna get you into the top three.
So Johnson just just great to see an winning 1/4 ball winning, getting us the top three.
Um oh, he's only won one major, but he will see him improved more and pull case.
He has really come out of nowhere.
In my opinion, I mean, he's he sported three, so he's been around a long time, But you you will get only three bogeys, the key to winning these tournaments.
It's assurance about the birdies, but it should have been not building because stay even all right that that'll at least give you into the cut lot bullies.
They're not really going to tell you need birdies, but you definitely do not want voting to mix a book.
Um, and a very good They're very determined for Paul Casey.
All these rents were under car, best being shooting a 66 on Round four shot 2 68 to 67.
So, Paul Casey, very consistent across the board, all the sixties and now go to our winner of this tournament.
Um, and those you don't know it's called Marco Call and more collar is so good.
I mean, God, like I'm not even trying to play around guys More collar is very, very good.
And we're seeing a new young, rising star, in my opinion, Um Onley 23 years old and yet it has a major and he has won four times on tour.
This did something special and shooting a 64 boby round free on Sunday.
Birdied 34 10 14 and eagled 60.
Knows a drive a ble green from the tee box.
He drove it all the way to the to pin.
No, put it in for eagle.
And that's how you get it done.
Call more Kahlo.
We are definitely seeing, uh, we are definitely seeing eye winter here.
Uh, no doubt way are seeing a player in the making.
Um, and he had he had the best ground floor.
Ah, he he he had the best round three.
And really, he's just a fun player watch.
I'm really looking forward to seeing him in future tournaments to come.
So, guys, that's going to wrap it up.
