so Yeah, I know.
Like you think it's like they're cheaper shirt, but I'll take it like I was not expecting that.
I can never forget era.
What is that? You can't turn on anything free.
Yeah, of course.
I mean, that's like a well known and I asked them to.
So not gonna you what you're saying now it's, uh you always start right away.
So anyways, for you guys that we're gonna because you got to play the stream, by the way, that people can wash us here tonight.
So, yeah, for you guys that are tuning in right now.
Lubick, I got a shot at my guys at the walking bucket Brand.
You see? You see the longer right there, they hooked me up with free T shirt that I'll be wearing for this.
Ah, for this, um, I plan on taking the shirt off, so I'll be wearing this shirt for the whole stream and also Sato his actually my guest travel team of the New York Lightning.
They actually they hooked me up with use of women for them would never been able to interview Ah, use a child for them and also, I say it's every time.
Make sure you guys give me a follow on Instagram I hoops fl I post all the interviews that I've done here on SportsCastr Host.
Are you guys all right? There you go.
I post all the interviews I've done here on SportsCastr of what? Also Post are actually as I closely and my fault is that of any of you guys air showing up late from the, uh, to the interviewer if you guys were leaving early and you really want to watch the whole streams, you you missed on all the highlights can be found on my instagram, I hope stuff out.
And also, if you guys have Twitter, make sure you give me a follow on that I hoops recruits.
That's where I post a lot of the articles I write for a company down here in South Florida, along with awe limit of a crewman and fellow.
Some of the guys I've interviewed a man I'm trying to get into that, uh, that space as well.
But anyways, let's get right into his interviews.
So how do you have you been, man? I've been doing really well.
It's felt really great toe play basketball again, especially at high level.
So I've been super stoked.
And let's talk about playing basketball at a high level, cause I know that your team, the New York leading select I mean, they're not really, um or they don't have, like, a straw in a circuit, right? Uh, they do, haven't you? RBL team, But the team I was planning on, It's not a circuit now.
All right, so you're so you're so you're playing on a team that's not in our circuit, But you guys getting really well known a lot of media attention.
And he told me before, a lot of people starting to find out who you are without even being in a circuit.
So this was that, like almost putting your team on the map and putting yourself on the map as well.
You know, I think with the a lot of these circuits being canceled this year, it's really made like the hoop group circuit that's been going on.
It's given us a lot of publicity, and I think that's been one of like the contributing factors to why we've been getting a lot of attention over these past few weeks.
But, yeah, a lot of the guys on the team.
We put in a lot of work over the quarantine, and I think it really paid off.
There's a lot of story we play at a high level and sticking to your team.
How did you hear about New York? Lighting? Select.
And what do you like most about them? So I did a workout through an MH, and I kind of got paired up with Jesse through that.
He's the coach of my New York leading team.
And so basically, what happened was after the workout, you know, I hit him up on Instagram.
I thanked him for putting us through the workout, and he actually invited me to keep working out with them.
And after that it kind of just kept on going.
And I ended up deciding that I would play for them this summer, and I honestly couldn't have been more happy with the decision I made.
And you are getting a lot of tension and a lot of Division one offers, and you said how they also have their own UBL team.
Do you think that for next year they I use season if all goes well and valuable.
Just get through this.
You think you'll end up lying on that you IBL team for the next year they au season.
That is the plan.
So I'm super excited.
I'm really hoping that you ibl happens.
I kind of have no doubt in my mind that it will happen.
So I'm really looking forward to that next year.
And I think this year an image will really get me ready for that level.
And do you know what's the name of the U IBL team? It's just a New York Lightning.
Okay, that's what I tried.
Probably her that I'm so honestly probably not thinking right now, uh, to be awesome to you.
So I was How is your junior season? My junior season? That went well.
Ah, I made a lot of individual improvements.
I think that really were valuable for this summer.
I think that my team did really well.
We're pretty young squad, but, you know, we held our own and yeah, we didn't do as well as we wanted to in the postseason.
But overall is a great year.
And what were some of those individual improvements that you made really working on my footwork, my ability to block shots from the floor and, you know, just using my height and my quickness to my advantage, really getting used to my body.
It's a big thing.
And now next year you did decide to go to N. M. H.
So what? What led to that decision? After my sop****re season, it really became evident that I wanted to go to a prep school, and it just so happens that we've really close the enemy each.
And when I got hooked up with J.
C, he reached out.
I got up to campus in no time, and I really just fell in love with school.
The campus and I really got to know a lot of the guys on the team.
And, you know, it was really a no brainer when it came down to the decision on where I wanted to play.
And next year since, technically, you're like repeating your junior year.
In a way, how does that work with academics like Are you Are you then doing work that like, are you still doing work? Is if you are a senior, are you doing? I It's almost a repeat of what you did this year.
Uh, I'm not really repeating anything.
I am actually taking senior classes, but, you know, it's a totally different curriculum.
So there's a lot of classes that they have that I did not have the ability to take in my old school.
So it's really not like I'm repeating.
It's more like I'm just continuing and sticking to reclassifying.
You got a handful offers already.
So look, just why? Why would you re classify what you already know? That probably once you graduated senior year, let's say, in 2021 you probably would ended up in a Division one school.
I think for me it's more just preparation.
Ah, you know, I could go to college after this next year, but I think the next year will just help me develop, get stronger as a basketball player and then education wise, I can just keep studying and keep improving in that that passage.
And let's say you have an insane junior year.
You know, the whole nation that I don't know.
You're like some top ranked players there.
Any chance you might then end up, I guess.
Reclassifying back to 2021.
You know, I don't really see, like, the need to I think that having an extra year is only gonna benefit me.
I don't really see how that could hurt.
So as of now, I would definitely say that I would stay that extra year.
And are there any guys that a major you're really looking forward are lying with? Yeah, definitely.
Um, I've actually been able to play with a few of them before.
I mean, through the New York landing, I was able to play with Reece Clark.
I had a lot of fun playing with them.
And I also really looking forward to playing with Avery Brown, Jake Taber off Rohan and, yeah, I'm excited.
There's a lot of guys.
It's kind of hard to just name a few.
Yeah, of course they are.
They are pretty stacked team.
And now let's start talking about your recruitment.
So what? Schools have been showing you a lot of love? Uh, as of now, it's been mostly just ivy league schools.
Uh, I've been in contact with Yale and Harvard, probably the longest, and, you know, they continuously show me love, but, ah, you know, a lot of new schools to, ah, lot of the a lot of just ivy weeks.
They've been reaching out some other schools, but a lot of been showing me a lot of love.
So yeah, again, it's kind of hard toe pick a few schools and let's talk about that with those ivy leagues.
I mean, Yale and Harvard, he said, were the first to reach out.
I mean, those are at least when someone thinks of the best schools.
And, uh, I don't know if it's in the world.
I'm serious in the world, but at least best schools in the nation I mean, you're gonna think Harvard and Yale number one and number two.
I don't know which one is better, but I will probably be whichever one Ah, you pick up yonder picking one of those.
But I guess what was that moment like for you knowing that your first ah couple offers were from so was from the nation's top Teoh schools? Pretty much well, they actually haven't offered me yet, but I think your central Yeah, but, uh, yeah, it's been super exciting, you know, just knowing that I kind of have really good with some really good options, both basketball wise and education wise.
I mean, they're top notch schools, so it's hard to go wrong with either, so yeah.
I was looking because I was wondering what that was on offer.
So you took a visit toe Yale 46 weeks ago.
It looks like how is that visit? I really enjoyed it.
You know, that was actually my second time at Kansas, and I think it was better than the first time.
The first time was just a tour for my older brother, but, uh, one of the assistant coaches, you know, showed me around campus.
I really got a good feel for what life's like there, and yeah, I could really see myself going to that school.
And also, I visited Harvard to a few weeks later.
Same thing with that school.
I haven't really been there before, and I really got a great feel for the school.
And let's talk about your older brother, but great to see in.
And how was he? Kind of impacted you in your game.
So he is going to be starting this fall at Dartmouth.
He's actually a rower, but he used to put last ball, and I honestly think he's had, like, the most impact on me is a basketball clear.
You know, without him, I probably wouldn't have started playing.
I probably would have.
But I started playing at a much younger age, then a lot of people.
And you know, just having someone older than you better than you when you're younger to compete against.
I think that really like helping girls a player and has made a huge impact on me now.
And I'm not saying rowing is not a sport, but have you kind of made fun of your brother? Like I'm like, bawling on the court.
I think you're on a boat rolling with the paddle.
You know, I feel like I couldn't do that just because rowing is such an outstanding sport.
I mean, the amount of like physical, uh, kind of the strength you need to do a sport like that.
The endurance, you know, it's kind of hard toe put down someone who grows.
I have a lot of respect for anybody who rose.
I don't want person.
That rose isn't, isn't a call like team is not what it's called.
Adam is called crude.
We are has overlooked basic names that starts with crew. Yeah.
And you know, you said how Harvard and Yale have showed interest in you, but work we have any schools offer to you.
Is this all a lot of interest? Oh, I have offers from Bryant Brown and Pen as of now.
So two other Ivy League schools, great schools.
I'm super excited about those offers.
Okay? And that's ah, so but Yale and Harvard were interesting to you on then.
After he offers and not from them, right? Yeah.
Would I be unexpected? Like what? You kind of expect this first schools our interest in you to be the ones that would offer first, Uh, it's hard to say.
I mean, I'm not too familiar with how the whole process goes, so it's hard for me to say, but, uh, I mean, Harvard and Yale in the past have been like the to top schools and Ivy Week.
So what kind of those makes sense that they haven't offered yet? You know, they want to see how I developed first So I really gotta respect that, of course, and now has moved away from those Ivy leagues and all of those schools.
But one of them that stands out on your list of offers and interest is verging attack.
Do you Do you think that you'll start seeing a lot of high major schools start to show a lot of interest in you soon? Since you already got one, Yeah, I think I have the necessary tools to play at a high major school, so it really just comes down to how much work I'm gonna put in.
And, you know, with these two years at an image, I think there's no better place for me to really improve and get to that next level.
Be able to play at one of those high major programs and is the high major program is at a place that you're trying to get to or are.
You may be thinking a little more of going that Ivy League route like a lot of your N m H piers.
You know, right now, it's really unclear.
I haven't really done too much looking in tow.
A lot of these high major programs.
I know a lot of them still have incredible academics, and that's something that I'm really looking for in a school.
So as of now, it's just unclear for me.
And you do? God, that would be Yeah. Yeah.
So you got two years left.
I mean, you got plenty of time to figure anything.
I mean, who knows where we'll all be even about this time next year.
So it just all time will tell.
But you said the academics, something that will really look for in a school besides that.
What else do you want in the school you choose? Oh, I would say, definitely.
Ah, location does player on it.
But I'm not too picky where I end up.
You know, it would be nice for my parents to be able to come watch me play.
So if it's not super far away from home, But I mean, other than that, I haven't really I don't really have anything else that I'm really looking for at the moment.
But I know that as the time goes on, the Rebecca, maybe other things that other factors that look for and next year or and the following years while what are your goals for the rest of the high school season, or for our first time for the rest of your high school seasons? Uh, well, this year it's I kind of don't know what's gonna happen in terms of the season, but no, I would love to win a knapsack Triple A championship.
And I really think that's in the cards for us at an image.
And, you know, I'm ready to put in the work and get toe where we need to be in order to make that happen, You said you live close to an image campus.
I know it's a boarding school.
Will you be staying there and like as the bird as the boarding school, or will you be coming home and I'm going back there every day? So I am actually going to boarding there.
I'm super excited.
I think that, you know, playing basketball there.
It's kind of he's here.
If that were the case, that I bored.
So that is where I have decided to do, and I'm super excited about it, and do you know what the whole plan for that is? I mean, everything's up in the air.
But do you know when you're supposed to be figuring out whether you will be staying on campus right now? We're not.
So as of now, I will be heading back.
Will be heading to campus, Uh, this month.
So I'm super excited about that.
I know that they have gone over all the necessary precautions that we need to take in order to make it a safe learning experience for everybody.
And, you know, I have nothing but confidence in the staff there that they worked out something that's gonna be very good for Ross students.
And if basketball happens to not work out for you in the future, do you have an idea what you maybe wanna be when you grow up? Ah, I haven't put too much thought about that yet just because I got so much time left to decide.
But, you know, I could see myself becoming like an architect.
I mean, I've always had a passion for design, so that really seems like a profession I could pursue in the future.
And what do you want your legacy to be like outside of basketball? Uh, I want to be remembered for being an honest person and for my work ethic.
I think those are two very important values to me.
And I think that if that's how I'm remembered, that I would be very, very happy with that.
And a father question is this isn't really cop in the interview as much.
But you told me, Ah, through tax, they're kind of getting new tough, do these interviews and get, I guess mixed taste made for you in all this media attention, along with the offers, A lot of stuff.
What has this all been like now starting to get a lot of attention and getting your name out there a lot more.
I've really enjoyed it.
You know, this is part of the process in becoming, ah, good, great athletes.
So getting used to it has been a little bit a little bit funky, but I'm starting to, and I'm super excited for what's to come on.
What has been funky about it, uh, just haven't really been used to getting this attention, you know, really came on kind of at once.
So it was really just like a surprise to me.
And yeah, everything's pretty new to me.
so I just kind of the learning process.
And what do you buy That? Like it all came out at once.
What was if you went viral on YouTube or some I doubt it just wouldn't be.
It all came on at once.
Uh, I would say that I started to kind of have coaches reach out.
It was, like, almost all in the same day, so I mean, I wasn't expecting it, and it kind of just happened.
So that's kind of Howard.
Everything kicked off a minute.
And was it really that random? Like you just woke up one morning, maybe like you probably didn't even play basketball game anytime received.
You just woke up in all this on your phones, like, Hi. Hi.
Were dressed in here.
Yeah, I was kind of how it happened.
Well, that's I mean, I've got what's really cool.
Yeah, I was super excited.
What happened? And it was, like, clearly completely random.
Out of the blue.
Yeah, I was not expecting it at all.
Yeah, I don't know a lot of players with that, for some reason off for these past, Like, feel like everything I've been doing.
Every single players told me something that no other players like told me about before.
Yeah, I don't get lucky, but that's that's what's so cool.
That's kind of what, like obviously, everybody players every player's Jeezy out to get those calls or payment anybody's uses toe wake up when they see their phone buzzing with whatever there trying to do.
But But, I mean, as it's kind of crazy that really just happen to you.
Went to bed like was never thought of your mind.
Probably played no basketball games recently.
Just woke up one morning and I'm thinking like, Oh, crap, like some something very might happen to me since that's that.
That's really cool.
Yeah, yeah, you know, move away from the top of that. This is my final question.
Um, because I know you were visiting the Yellen Harbor with your brother, but were they also knowing that you're a potential law player for them to? And were they doing things with you on that visit as well? Or was it just all about your brother? Ah, when I went, it was only for Yale with my brother.
But it was just like a campus tour.
it wasn't really, like sports specific.
It also, they didn't really know that I was even there, so yeah, yeah, it wasn't really connected, but it was just another chance for Muto visit campus.
Sounds good on dumb it.
Before we conclude the show, is there anything you want, applaud or anybody want shot out? Ah, I want to shout out the MH team, the coaching staff there.
And I also want to shut out.
Shut out! The New York Lightning squad and Jesse Shapiro.
Yeah, thank you very much for having me on.
I look forward to keeping in touch.
Yeah, of course. I really appreciate.
