okay, Do you and one a happy Friday out there to sports? Asked her fans and Pham, keep fierce.
And here, coming to you live with Adam.
We're gonna talk.
Little Pell's a little Zion.
A little out in Gentry.
I bet Brandon angry.
Whoever else might talk about on the pills.
I don't think these guys are looking to get into the playoffs.
And even if they did decide today that they were going to try and look into the playoffs, they've got a game at eight o'clock against the very beatable Wizards.
It's not gonna matter.
They're falling out there dropping out the N B A did all they could to try and get Xai on in.
And the pelicans did all they could to make sure Zion didn't play as much as he possibly could.
Five minutes spurts.
They've got this young man on the pitch count.
When he goes in, he impacts the game immediately.
He doesn't miss many shots.
He gets rebounds.
He's so big, so strong, he's a force.
And, uh, I think the pelicans are worried about their future, more so than the present.
They know that they're not gonna be able to get into the playoffs or compete and win anything this year.
They're trying to preserve Zion for the long run.
Adam, Any observations from these first few games that we've seen with the New Orleans Pelicans in the bubble? Yeah.
I mean, listen, I I think everything you said is right.
You know that that those first couple of games remember they only lose by two to the Jazz in the opener.
This one and they play Zion and very tight minutes only comes, I think, about 30 minutes or so in that first game.
If they manage to pull that one out, maybe it changes how they approach.
The game's going forward.
But as soon as you dropped that 1st 1 you knew already, as it stood when you look at the standings that they were going to need to probably win 56 games over the over the bubble with how congested it was behind the Grizzlies there.
So that was the real concern that you started with and they followed it up again.
Unfortunately, you play the Clippers after that, and the Clippers have enough to play for because you have the Nuggets Knock, answer heels.
So everything in the Western Conference just, I think a little bit more candid and a little bit more important in terms of some of the upper teams where everybody kept playing.
And by the way, we I think we talked about this before On here off the n b A.
And the players have an understanding.
Everyone's coming out and playing hard, right? There was no throw your hat in the ring there, if you're if you're l a either l A team.
So when that happened, it also changed the perception off any of these lower teams, having maybe a softer schedule against teams that were already locked into the playoffs.
That wasn't the case, so it made the road a lot harder for The college is plain and simple.
This whole MBA bubble has been highly entertaining guys every night or playing hard, there's guys rising up.
Speaking of guys row morning.
What Brooks what up? Jumping right in.
Good timing, I said, You know, in this MBA bubble, there is a lot of guys rising up and your timing was perfect right there.
You're rising up and joining us on the live stream.
Yeah, I was gonna mention guys like T.
J Warren rising up guys like Gary Trent Junior making a name for himself, even Devin Booker, who we've all known.
He's reminding people that, hey, I'm one of the best players in the league.
The sons or for no? Yeah, when you look at the pelicans right in the West, they're now underneath.
The sun's there now, underneath the Spurs.
There now underneath the King's.
When we're talking about that a seed, a lot of the conversation is around the Trail Blazers.
Charles Barkley comes out and says, I think the Trail Blazers, you know, if they get that matchup against LeBron on the Lakers, they can get the Lakers.
I think that's far fetched.
I think they can give us a good Siri's.
But then you also look at the Grizzlies who were holding who are holding the A seat and were holding the A C.
When we came into this, we're focusing on the pelicans.
The pelicans beat them by 10.
What the Pelicans have struggled with everyone else.
They can't play defense, they can score.
They've got some guys that can score the ball but they gave up 126 points to the Clippers.
They gave up 140 last night to the King's, like the King should be put up 140 points.
Uh, don't count Teoh that I like you guys.
I'm like they should be played over 140 points.
Actually, we have them later today.
We'll see how our rotations look against the Kings.
I'm actually gonna be in one of the virtual fan seats for that.
So way able to like I don't know how it works.
So I don't know if I'll be able to screen recorded or grab it or whatever.
So anybody that catches the nets game, You see, my, uh, I'm gonna wear my my Jason Kidd.
That's Jersey, the white one.
Like the throw back there.
You go back to the pills back to the pros.
I like their team, you know, I think Alonso is average.
And then we got Lonzo versus the Erin Fox again last night.
And you know how that one goes every time.
I think Brandon Ingram is great.
Uh, he's probably like their strongest defensive guy, But what you guys think the pelicans have to do Teoh, Maybe win some games like tonight.
Let's talk about tonight.
They've got the Washington Wizards tonight.
Um, yeah, they don't give you anything.
You want to win that game.
I don't like that.
Should be the only game that they're they're, you know, favored to win and that they look impressive.
And I don't know how long they're gonna runs ion out there, but they should be able to beat the worst team in a bubble.
Um, all right, so my pelicans think so Here's the thing.
That kind of it's funny, like it's with Alvin Gentry, who I think is like one of the best offensive coaches in the league.
Like I just the way they run offense.
It's like, gorgeous.
Like I was watching the other day.
They ran, um, think they ran a hammer set, which is basically like a screen that opens up a guy in the corner like you.
Just like they do spurs motion offense, stuff you like, kind of don't really see in the league anymore.
And it's just, like, really pretty to watch.
Um, unfortunately he has No, I don't know what it is about Alvin gentry teams, but they just don't defend on.
I don't understand what's what's the problem there.
So it's like this weird two sided coin where they're very fun to watch.
Typically, I think he is a good coach, but I don't know what they need to do defensively.
And it's like I, you know, like the thing like So take like, Lonzo ball on symbols, a great example.
Like Lonzo Ball became this amazing, like Will not amazing, but better three point shooter and, like he basically fixed the best part about his game.
Problem is, the defense that made him really special in in Los Angeles is just like not there, like I don't know, and it's just like he's lost and I don't know.
So it's just this weird side effect that happens with Alvin Gentry teams, and I don't know how to fix it, but maybe I'm just being impatient with a young team, but I do think it's something to keep an eye on and then so I need to get in shape.
That's the way we talked about, like on other threads here.
When we said about Zion, it's like manage to look so exciting and then you just think about what his sizes and relatively speaking like.
He could do some dynamic things that defensive play and sweeping from behind and grab a block, and that's great.
But maybe the mass point to about, like, Overall way you feel like we have these conversations a lot.
Yeah, and I have of like all of a sudden you find this really healthy offensive rhythm and it seems like you're like, Look how well things were going on the offensive end.
The defense just kind of falls by the wayside, and you can get wins against even know middle of the pack kind of teams that certainly the lesser teams in the league.
You'll run them up and you'll get those W's.
But then when you run into ah Clippers team, all of a sudden you end up losing by 2020 25 points because they start to lock you up on the defensive end.
You're not doing as much as you can.
And then you don't have what it takes to stock Kawhi Leonard to stop Paul George to do all the things that are necessary, the other end of the floor.
So it's interesting.
You bring up about country, just whether or not his teams don't have the ability to get to that level.
Or is it relatively speaking, right? If not for the stop it.
I think we were excited to see how the back into the season played out, and some people are optimistic that the pelicans we're gonna work their way into that e seed.
But that wasn't the expectations at the start of the year, right? It was like the future is bright for the pelicans.
So all of a sudden they get close and we started.
We start raising our expectations literally midstream, as opposed to saying, Let's see where they are next year as I on gets a full season members kids on what, 30 game 30 of 25 of his MBA career.
So there's still a lot of growth to be had there.
Yeah, when I look at this pelican, seem there very young, like if you look at their ages on paper, they're very young.
Uh, I guess the oldest player on our team is JJ Red****.
When you think about Red****'s game, he's just a shooter.
He's not out there really strapping guys up or, you know, none of these guys are really doing offensive guys.
So maybe they figure out in the next couple seasons how to get some defensive players on or some defensive strategy.
That's what they're lacking the most.
We know Zions a beast.
I think last night he played 24 minutes or 22 minutes and had 24 points.
He's gonna be able to score, but they need to get some guys around him to have a better defense of president, Especially in this embassy, where these guys are chucking up threes, they're running the scores up this bubble.
They talked about how it's like better shooting vision in the bubble.
Like like these guys are seeing the net better without, I guess, like fans in the stands.
It's an interesting dynamic like this whole set up.
Actually, I'm actually like now, lobbying for them to start next season in the bubble one every year in the Open with the tournament right like MLS did.
This further thing, kind of like the MLS is back toward him.
It so do that to start the season, give these guys a nice little bit of isolation where they seem to come out like absence of fan that I know that.
They say that really, obviously, you know, pumps up the whole room teams, but it seems like you're getting a little bit of the Pacers pick up, obviously in the bubble, but also that, like you're getting more the authentic.
But you're getting more like out at the basketball court.
Yeah, two groups of friends getting together and no one else is talking so that everything is owned in there.
So you're really you're really getting an intensity that seems different from the MBA season.
But I'll say about the defense of side for the pelicans.
Those like if Ingram with his length, if he could start to really ramp up his defensive effort, then you with him on holiday.
Now you're talking about having a real Tandon.
They're on the defensive side of things I almost akin to.
You want to uphold George Quite lender, just in terms off, lock down, defensive from Kawai, and then the length of Paul George was so useful defensively, if if Ingram takes that step on that end and they retain holiday, what you assume they will then you have something like they could be your defensive anchor, but you're still going to need a big in the middle.
That's what they lack.
They lack size on the defense.
Events are really, really shut down.
Players coming down the lane on them.
Yeah, I mean, I like Jackson Hayes to like I don't know what he projects as, but he's interesting.
I think at the very least, I was watching Zion defensive clips in college and man like he was.
I kind of forgot how interesting he was.
Toe watch on defense.
He's like blocking three point shots and all this stuff.
But I'm just like I'm not quite sure why That hasn't translated.
Maybe he just needs a full year to get comfortable with feet of the game.
Yeah, beauty of the game.
But what about college? Three point shooters, Little bit different than and at the end, right? Yeah.
I mean, and I don't know, like, it is a shorter three point line, so maybe that's why, but I mean, I need to give, like, the dumbest ****ysis, but that you do que jumping up and like, volleyball spiking guys like, what is this kid on like his hops and his size.
So I mean, these are all factors.
Yeah, So I'm hoping, hoping it It comes from him because there is something there and like he has the opportunity if he can kind of get the feel for it to become like, a really, really lethal switch.
I just need to lock in.
But he's so big, he's just so dang strong that, like if he figures this out and you try to post up, you imagine you tryto post up this guy.
Hell, no, that's happening.
This guy's center of gravity is better than P.
Tucker's like it's just like a defensive tackle like he really is.
So any move well what you talked.
You talked about two about like he needs to get in better shape, right? Like when you look at his frame like I think that he would look similar at a shorter height, he would.
He should look similar to your closet.
Anthony gave us in terms of being real broad across the shoulders and really, really in shape tight as you work down the body, like that's where he needs to get you physically so that he can make those leaps in the big dance on the offensive in the big plays on defense event without thinking in the back of your mind like boy, this guy can around extra £15.
It's probably gonna hurt him in your three or your four. Like that.
To me is the biggest concern, too.
Is help with this team? Um, I don't know it.
It's been disappointing that they weren't more involved this year, you know, in this bubble, I guess.
But at the same time, I've I pivoted pretty quickly on to every other team is doing so, so much amazing stuff runs Oh, my God.
The They play the heat tomorrow which, by the way, with sub Dave Oh, uh, who's in our comments right now? And, um, I can't wait to watch that game.
I wait like the money we're talking about, how great these games are, like wait.
So we get to the play in games because that's what's gonna like that.
Those tournaments are gonna be why, I guess it really only gonna be one.
But they and those are going to be fun to watch.
Now, that idea, like you're saying so the play up.
The playing games or common in these games we've seen so far have been great. Have been competitive.
But now the talk of shifting, obviously last night would like the Rockets Lakers game.
People like all the broads on plan the Lakers.
They got the number one seed locked up and, yeah, I get that.
They have the number one seed locked up.
But like I like, I don't know.
I'm not buying into, like all the top teams are already resting their guys like, Yeah, the Nets were able to beat the Bucks because the honest and Middleton didn't play the whole second half.
Those air two number one seeds.
We're talking about the Bucks in the Lakers.
The rest these teams, they're going out there and playing hard, and there is no time to take your foot off the gas.
I can't wait to see Sun's heat.
Did, um, Jimmy? But Jimmy buckets play last night for the heat? No, right now.
Do we know when he's coming back? Um, I don't know.
No, I have No, by the way, that we talk about like he said.
But a D still played and you may see a D get a game off, and LeBron's gonna play like the reality is two year or talking about eight games over a 14 day stretch.
This is about as jam packed his games would ever be in an NBC, and arguably more so.
So there's a reality just to be in like, Hey, before we end up getting the playoffs, we want to make sure that we also take a game here, a game there to arrest him, guys like I don't think there's anything, anything to that beyond saying, like we came out as intense as we possibly could to start this.
And we're going to grab a game here in the game there.
And if you're the number one sees, you avoid the planes, obviously, so you'll get an extra day. Maybe there as well.
The only thing the East doesn't really important.
But the West is weird and everyone knows it.
Like the Grizzlies feel like there is such a good position.
Now they're falling by the wayside a lot of ways.
I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of it, the Portland Trail Blazers in the eighth seed, they if we want to go.
You want to go pure comedy.
The Washington Wizards are losing ground.
Two teams that are playing there now the high above their fall happened with the standings.
While other teams aren't even doing anything, they actually an 11th or 12th seed.
I want to talk about that.
No one talked about that before the bubble warnings that the Hornets are not invited to the bubble.
But if the Wizards lose the Hornets, they're gonna jump the Wizards.
And, like, they should have had the Hornets in the bubble waiting to be like You guys want to do anything.
But if the Wizards lose enough, we're swapping out you guys into the bubble.
We're taking the Wizards out.
Michael taken a **** personal.
Jordan's like, Hey, we should have been invited.
Wouldn't it be funny if they are this? Obviously, I'm sure they did.
The massive listen vey soon happen.
But if the Nets and the Wizard just both went like in, let's say inflation that they both want Owen and somehow they had to bring in the Hornets.
Heard playing right? Oh, man, we screwed this up.
Well, you know, I think I looked it up because I was so curious that anybody was smart enough that they were like there were involved.
That's how they see the draft and everything.
I was like, Yeah.
The Wizards, by being a part of this, are actually hurting their draft stock.
You're gay mother, helping your draft talk, and they're hurting teams that aren't able to play.
The Hornets are getting worse in the draft.
The Knicks, they're gonna get worse in the draft of all the winters are like racing to the bottom.
I know thinking it's so good.
I was like, Well, I'm happy.
You look that up because that's crazy.
Bryant going to get his 30 though he's on Lee do.
They didn't get the memo.
He's like, right, showing off in the bubble like things house.
Nobody morning for staying at home.
Elite monks like I have no interest in going toe.
Orlando, you can have that.
Ah, what? Let's talk about this in the West, right? Have you guys fully bought in on? Okay, see, cause I have No Yes, I really had.
And it's taken me a while.
Obviously from before the restart, we knew that they had something going on over there.
They give Billy Donovan, coach of the year.
People are even whispering Chris, Paul and M V P conversations.
I kind of I can't I can't say no right now. I agree.
That last time and I talked, I said about the idea of like, I know all the rumors.
Oh, where's CP three gonna go? And I was like, But if you're O.
K c do you maybe think about just trying to keep him around like I kind of want that? Everyone's like, Oh, back in his career, you know? He's gonna diminish.
Meanwhile, he's playing arguably the highest level he never played out of.
What If you're in the West there, you're okay.
See, Like, why would you Why would you trade away that value? Got young, young talent.
They're learning behind him.
Steven Adams is still, you know, still doing his thing.
If he can stay healthy like you'll be competitive and rate in the mix with any of these teams going into next season, who knows? Maybe you could even attract somebody to want to come toe okay with that, I think they're going to shock some people in this playoff run, and when they come up short, people are gonna be like there one guy away.
And that one guy in the MBA is gonna be like, OK, I want to go play their Oklahoma City's got a great atmosphere in their home court.
They've got great fans.
I know there without that now, but they're the pride of that entire state.
I think they're gonna make some noise.
And I like I have bought in.
I've, you know, I bought in because I bet against him so many times I can't I can't bet against these guys they're gonna cover.
They're gonna play tough.
And now in the bubble is the first time I've been ableto actually watch them.
I watched them beat the nets.
We gave up a game to them in, Um, I don't know.
When it was maybe was February or January was cold.
It was a game that the Nets should have.
Warner could have won and okay, see, figured out how to take it from us.
So that was the only time I watched him.
I would watch him in a bubble, and I've bought in after every beat.
The Lakers and I forget who else? Maybe I'm like this is a team gets this is a full, the Nuggets and then the Nuggets.
It's a whole nother right now.
Yeah, that's the That's where that that's what matchup with look right now in your second by the Yeah, but by the way, I think, especially in Portland, lines up there in that a seed.
I think as much as I've enjoyed the Grizzlies, I'd rather see poorly.
Now get in there and play the Lakers.
You know that first round you're talking about top to bottom.
That's not in a way, you're not gonna lorry.
It's going to be It's gonna be, Yeah, I mean, arguably, especially when you look over the East the 1st 2 first round when you're talking about the Nets and the Magic and taking on the the Toronto Raptors and the Bucks, you could go ahead and turn your turn your attention, offer that hype on the Western Conference and what that's gonna look like.
It's weird to think about, Okay, See, moving around and I want it.
Where was that schedule like? I was like just a couple days ago, right? We'll talk about the Nuggets saying, How could they possibly jump the Clippers there for that? Number two seed? And now they're another game and 1/2 back again later.
But the level of intensity around these games is interesting and we said the Nuggets, they're they're interesting.
I don't know what to make of the Nuggets.
Well, they I don't or or Gary Harris really like they just I was about to say they're not even at full strength like a little lowered by Michael Porter Jr.
Like Michael Porter.
Your That's tractor, man.
He's beginning is dried like you would say, Oh, you don't have some of your key players.
What do you guys gonna do? And then all the sudden, it turns out you just been stockpiling so much for this entire time, which is exactly what they need.
Like they have been relying on Will Barton to be like that instant offense like Okay, we're kind of are we're not scoring.
We're kind of stuck in the mud.
We don't really know to dio that guy can create his shot on like anyone really doesn't care sick like he might be.
What year was he attracted? 22 years ago.
Right now, I feel like he was just in high school.
He was the top player coming out of high school in like, 2017.
I think you got drafted in 18.
He had the back issue and then I don't want to be wrong about Let's look it.
I'm pretty sure Michael Michael Porter Jr was like like he graduated high school like 2017 was like Gatorade player of the year.
I want to say they drafted him in the 2018 draft or maybe was 29.
It was 2018. That a draft.
So he's he's in the Luca drug.
There are a lot of It's a shame that Jaren Jackson went down because he was thrown up a cool 25 points a game, too.
Um, and and DeAndre Aidan's look good that that class is like great class three women.
Quiet is it's Ah, DeAndre eight and bag Lou.
I don't know what's gonna happen with him.
Luca dodges Jaren Jackson Jr.
Um I guess a Colin section Sure.
SDA what a shame is your rattling off the names of positivity? I mean, I get whatever anyway but not from Cleveland like, Yeah, that's my guy.
Uh, what else Michael Porter Jr like that class is I was going to say he's probably the best player.
Is class not there, but more like Wagner food.
Now, what a year that was.
A lot of talent.
I don't even the king to get warm.
You got you by another Dubai man is do guys, uh, you You mentioned nuclear, though, Man.
It's like, what are the Mavericks in this whole scenario? Since you're getting such almond in performances out of out of Lucca and out of court Zynga's I just watched, by the way, Well, I made a comment the other day with Matt where it was like I was like, Oh, my God, Like, you know, person just isn't really a guy that's gonna cross somebody up.
And then he did, like, can also weigh, admit it and anything like and even had that little like the quick pop from three.
That I just didn't think that a guy that size could do what he executed.
That I was like, way Haven't been.
It will close these games, so you will sleep in your mind.
It's like you're gonna just not there yet.
But if you have two guys giving you double doubles triples like they gotta figure it out.
They've lost some games in this bubble that they could have won.
I mean, that first game against the Rockets.
How entertaining was that overtime game against the Rockets? They had him going on.
So it's like they're like one or two plays away.
That's a coaching thing.
That's a personnel thing.
They better figure it out before the Stars.
We got what, like 10 D is until the playing or playoff starts.
I still believe in the Mavericks.
I actually had to eat crow or, like, kind of, you know, like on talking.
That's why I had said, I think that the Mavericks, like I like the Mavericks where they are in the stand, will now in the standings.
I had originally said that I like the Rockets have shot up, but like I originally said that, I thought the Rockets would fall out.
Not too long ago, we were hearing about Kobe, 19 with Russ Cove in 19 with hardened them not showing up to the bubble.
I'm like, OK, Ben Macklemore and P.
And, uh, Eric Gordon got her right away.
I'm like the Rockets gonna fall out of it.
I like the Mavericks bubble of a lot.
Then you know Lucas still putting up his numbers.
Porzingis is playing with the magic.
The Mavericks have lost game games where I don't have that much faith in him, but it could be just one or two things to change.
Um, there in the seventh seed right now, staring at possibly playing the Clippers.
I don't think they want that to the problem of natural like e.
I mean, the Clippers are like I still think, like with everything that's happened, I, like, cooled off on the clippers of first night.
And now I'm, like, kind of weirdly back in on them because, like, they just have the feeling that there s Yeah, Blake and then Paul George.
And then we still I feel like Kawai the way Kawai a set up like he's playing hard.
Like when when Booker hit that shot, I, like was looking at Kawai on the court.
Booker hits that shot and cool.
I was just like like he gave like a like a fist pump down.
I'm like, Okay, he cares.
Like he might turn it up to another gear when the playoffs start.
We hadn't really seen a night from Kawai were like, Whoa, like that's vintage Kawai Like That's cool.
I really getting off.
You gotta remember like he has a weird me thing where he can't always play 100% like he can't.
They have, like, he literally will be load managing in games.
So that's their seat.
Like, that's the thing that can kind of take them to that next level was like when he really starts playing hard, I don't even know if it's gonna happen in round one.
I will say, like the Mavs are a team that, like if they get hot, like all they really need is to, like, win one of these close games and it just boost the confidence a little bit, like just give him a little bit of behind them.
Um, I wouldn't want to play them because, as you said, like, I'm sure we probably saw the same highlights those luke or the, uh, the KP highlights that we're going like this man is doing what like I kind of forgot how much I like Poor Zynga's It.
It brought me back to the next day's a little bit where I'm like Oh, this guy isn't just like, you know, whatever a big or living that shoot threes like he's kind of got a little nasty to ill when we talk about were saying like, you know, it feels like he is the dirt, the new Dirk for the map.
It's so easy to make the comparison big.
I could shoot and I was like Why? I'm like, better than a Dirk Dirk Dirk wasn't doing and Dirt wasn't doing any of this stuff out on the perimeter.
She hasn't had to think about the criticism that for Zynga's does, and they even mentioned it on that broadcast.
They go, you know, he signed the five year, $150 million deal basically on spec from what he had done for in New York.
If you're if you're Cube, if you're Cuban right now, man that **** all day, you are just refreshing it right now that that was gonna make it possible for this team to continue to build around those two players and spend some money and some other places.
Like I said, I guess you know, I keep looking at the Clippers and thinking, Oh, they're so strong and deep, especially defensively that it's hard to imagine it.
But it's also hard to imagine holding down Luca or poor Zynga's in any given game because of their size of their prison.
An exclusive guy that's going toe, who would be able to go out and pick up your Porzingis consistently out on the perimeter.
So if you could have a hot hand, I guess, man, nothing would make me happier.
By the way, like as much as I love legacy building from Bron and it seems like the Clippers are in line for this sort of thing like nothing would make me happier, they're just watching, like the two seed in both conferences.
Maybe the racket I want actually want to see the Raptors rise up out of the East cause that feels like a good story, post Kawai.
But nothing would make me happier than to see like these teams just fall in the first round to some of the younger squads and then because it is just a free for all about who's gonna who could just take that and grab it.
I want I want this to turn into, like March madness like it seems like with them all playing in the same site like it could turn into that march Madness feeling old telling if you're not aware way and then even did you see? I don't know.
