and welcome back once again SportsCastr news were, as always, I'm Adam are back talking all things n b A and become a here speaking not about teams inside the bubble.
Well, technically one.
And then one team without a Zoe. No.
This past season, the Golden State Warriors were really kind of ra***ed by injuries.
There ended up being a bit of a throwaway quote tank season, if you will.
But the other thing that we're looking at now for them is where they going forward.
They've heard Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green.
You know, even even Coach Kirk come out and talk about how there's still a run.
This team believes that they can still get back to the top and be computing for another N B a title with their quote core nucleus of players.
Obviously, those Big Three in Thompson, Green and Curry.
Now there's been some news, however, also are smoke, as they say, and where there's smoke, there could certainly be fire.
Ah, that Aaron Gordon could possibly be a target for the Golden State Warriors.
And what will be a very brief off season coming up here of following the conclusion of the season down in the bubble.
And while it takes place in Orlando, that's exactly where the Orlando Magic play as we know.
And Aaron Gordon, a 24 years old, would certainly bring a different dynamic to that roster. Mainly just the athleticism.
It's it's interesting to think about.
I mean, you want to talk about, you know, the rich getting richer? Certainly, that's a possibility in a lot of the reports that are coming out suggest that maybe a guy like Eric Cashel could be included in that.
They also have not only their own first round draft pick upcoming, which will be up in that high up in the upper tier there because of how bad they were without all their stars this season.
The question then becomes with a possibly consider throwing in the likes of the Timberwolves first round pick, which they also have the rights to.
So there's a lot of moving parts here that potentially the Golden State Warriors could utilize to entice Orlando to send Aaron Gordon their way.
The only thing, not the only thing but one of the things you think about is where does he fit in to this roster and how they utilize him comes in this season giving you 14 and eight.
Basically, along with four assists to go along is obviously, as we say, a more athletic player.
Get out and run the floor.
You could certainly enjoy seeing Steph Curry floating some lobs in his direction on the offensive end.
And now defensively, though, we go inside the Rapture rating here briefly and say that was basically a net neutral on both ends of the floor of this season.
As a Brooklyn Nets company also covers the Brooklyn Nets.
There's always been a speculation from the fan base.
When we got to go get Aaron Gordon, you got to go get him.
And for all of this athleticism, which I can appreciate, I don't know how much of a needle mover is depending on where you put it.
I'm not saying that he wouldn't be valuable on Brooklyn or that he wouldn't be valuable out there on the Golden State Warriors.
When you have a team like them and certainly go ahead it in, that's going to allow him to have that much more success on the interior.
The only thing that I look at the we've highlighted thes Ah, some of these contracts that the Golden State Warriors you're gonna have on the books.
What is that gonna look like for them going forward? And personally, as we've often said, it's, you know, the contract of Dream on Korean really becomes the big one and the contract that I thought Think if you're the wars in the 1st 1 that you would monitor, move on from now if you can somehow swing bringing in Aaron Gordon jettison some some assets and I would you know, I I find it highly unlikely that they would turn around and try to combine.
Maybe, let's say, in a weak draft class as its projected right now coming up, Maybe you go ahead and say, We'll give you both of these First round picks will also throw into shawl Paschal.
And then maybe, But maybe you don't.
You hold him back and you think about trying to potentially dumped the dream on green contract onto the Orlando Magic, you know? I mean, that's really if you want to be shrewd from a business perspective, that's where the goal is that wears need to be looking over the next season or two is how do we get out from underneath this contract? In doing so, you give yourself some flexibility.
Ah, and you be able to, you know, you certainly be able to say Now we go ahead and plug Aaron Gordon and the power forward position.
We still have youth behind him.
There's a question mark about Wiggins.
What is he shone while with the Golden State Warriors? Do they still believe in him in the long term? A lot of money tied up in him as well.
And when you go inside these contracts, well, briefly touch on these here because it's also about making the money work in a lot of ways, and you can go into the luxury tax if you want to and not really worry about it.
You've got to assume that some of those numbers a grand changes you head into the next season.
He signed Let's see here, trying to find out when he signed an $84 million extension that goes back to the summer of 2018.
So he's only a couple of years into that rate now, so you'd still be talking about having a significant.
We're probably looking somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 million there, right? Let's see if we can pull up what they have there.
As far as the cap numbers go, and then take a brief look over the Warriors just in terms of making these things line up because you talk about all the smoke in the world when you got the kind of numbers that they have on their books.
It's really difficult to be that top heavy, even in the short term, in order to try to make that work for you.
Aaron Gordon right now based salary came in at 19 million. So is right there.
So we talk about heading into what would be, say, the 2020 2021 season.
Then you're looking at his number.
How much does it increase by? Actually goes down a little bit so we'll save a little bit.
Gets a little bit less there.
Only 18 million.
So it's actually a little bit more friendly relative.
So what the Golden State Warriors we're dealing with, And just to give you a sense of that, it's because when you go over to the Golden State Warriors It's not just those Big Three that we highlighted here who currently this year and let's even will say 2020 21 season.
You're gonna have curry at 43 35 per Thompson at a max.
And then you're also gonna have ah, Andrew Wiggins sitting there.
29 million, nearly 30.
And then you back that up with Draymond Green at 22 million.
So if you want to throw another 18 million in on top of that Good Lord, if they want to, maybe go on a slightly smaller kind of line up and say you're gonna put great Draymond green at the five Ah, from time to time, that's an opportunity.
Certainly the question mark alluded is one around Wiggins to how married are the Golden State Warriors to keeping this nucleus intact? They won the original championships with, and they feel like they want to get back to that mountain top again.
If that's the itch that you're trying to scratch, you really don't have to worry about going and getting an Aaron Gordon, necessarily.
Ah, this team, as it's constituted right now, is going to be right back there as a top four top five seed in the West, lumped together with all those other teams.
Remember, you don't know what the state of the Rockets is going to be coming out of the season.
Are they re tooling? Is D'Antoni coming or going? Are they going to jettison Hardin or Westbrook? What does that look like? The Oklahoma City thunder that are right in the thick of it.
He's most likely going to be gone.
They have some youth in some town, but they're not gonna look the same way next season, either.
In spite of the success that the Portland Trailblazers air currently having, what is that roster look like next year, they bring everybody back relatively friendly deal for Carmelo Anthony.
You know that Dame and C J want to stay together.
Well, now with Nurkic is it's a great little nucleus there.
But where they Where are they? In the hierarchy.
So, you know, if the Golden State Warriors, even at will say getting into their thirties now, all these guys are going to be 31 32 years old, across the board for those three.
Yeah, they can still do it all.
Health being considered, they could go right back to what they've been doing.
The question mark is going to be has the lead in some way shifted a little bit to kind of react to those things? And will they get out shot at times from three? Even at this point, I'd be hard pressed.
The thing claimed step.
Not to mention that Clay is a pure two way player.
D's up significantly, obviously, Then the question mark becomes about Draymond Green.
Where is he in terms of the deterioration of his game? How dedicated can he be if he's lost a step? There was seen what he looks like on the offensive end.
It ties the perimeter.
Shooting is going in the wrong direction for him still has value defensively, but he's not.
You know he doesn't have a ton of size, so he's, you know, a reasonable at the power forward position there.
But do you want to supplement that and do you want to move on from it? If you go in that direction that I think you're saying you're gonna hold onto Wiggins, bring in Aaron Gordon, jettisoned dream on green and continue to develop your young talent, then you've got something there.
And if you could do it in a relatively bad draft class season, we're giving up assets that are that aren't nearly as valuable as they could be, depending on where you land after the lottery.
I think there's tremendous value there, especially if you want to be in the win now mode as that's closing.
Because, remember, you talk about the Clippers there in a pretty good spot, at least in the short term. The Lakers.
While we everyone loves LeBron, and I'm not arguing that he still could be the best player in the league right now, at some point, you're going to see a little bit of a diminishment in his game.
And when that starts to come, the attention is going to shift to Anthony Davis.
What is the rest of that roaster look like? Are the Dallas Mavericks ascending or are they plateau me, the Nuggets air surging and trying to fight for that two seed right now in the Western Conference? So what do these things look like? You know what all these teams look like.
And how do you feel like you stack up against them if you make the case that Steve Kerr is one of the better coaches in the league.
If you think that you have value, can continue to wreck Lemak the project that is Andrew Wiggins.
I could make the case.
You could stand pat on this.
The athleticism of Gordon.
It is what it's attractive.
But outside of dream on green again, I like most of the pieces that you have there in Golden State.
I don't know what you're doing to rock the boat.
Outside of shifting off some of these draft assets and looking to bring in another quality player, it will be interesting to see the direction they go.
The bottom line is, unfortunately, we've seen some hiccups here along the way for Orlando.
It's gonna be a very tight offseason window when it's all said and done.
So what does that look like in terms of getting some of these deals toe happen, or team's going to be as ready to wheel and deal following a postseason.
We're maybe going into this bubble.
You had a different set of perspectives on your team and some players stepped up as the Nuggets have seen.
You know, some players that may be falling off a little bit and struggled.
How have you evaluated your own roster prior to the shutdown back in March and now following the bubble in terms there down in Orlando? That being the case man, it's funny to think about how the Golden State Warriors couldn't be any further from our minds right now, but it's all predicated on injuries.
They come back healthy, the rate where they were a year before.
I know no Kevin Durant.
We all understand that they've had success prior to him.
And there's something there about the staying power of Golden State, and these guys are still in their prime.
Health is going to be the biggest factor for them.
I don't know if Aaron Gordon is the missing piece that elevates them from, say, three or a four seed up Teoh a one or two and and that much stronger competing for a nd a championship, as opposed to anyone else that could be out there on the landscape.
There's gonna be a lot of names.
Feels like Aaron Gordon is always the hot one on everyone's lips doesn't mean that is necessarily gonna trend in that direction will keep an eye out over the course of the bubble and see if any news comes out in that general direction.
Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy what has been a phenomenal restart for the MBA about midway through the eight game restart, pushing towards those playoffs a lot of great action.
Enjoy it. As always.
