What's going on, everybody? This is railroad here from DPM Sports talk, and it is Wednesday night.
So you know that I'm just coming into you with a quick fire.
Welcome everybody who's tuning in, and today I'm gonna talk a little bit about Mohammed's new So yesterday.
So Anu was activated from the populist, which means he's now able to go and join his Patriots teammates out at training camp.
And, you know, I think it's fair to say that a lot of people maybe questioning just how valuable Mohammed's knew was last year.
And perhaps we'll look at the second round draft pick that Bill Belichick gave up for him with the Atlanta Falcons may have been a I don't know, colossal failure.
I think you finished the year like 26 catches with one touchdown, the 207 yards when it was expected for him to come in and be a legit weapon for Tom Brady outside of Julian Edelman.
Obviously, McKeel Harry only played half a season.
He didn't live up to the expectations of his first round pick, Jacoby Meyers, and exceeded expectations.
But you know he's an undrafted free agent just kind of getting his legs underneath him.
And, you know, then you had Phillips or set that sort of disappeared.
You have the holy beat, the Bacal.
Josh Gordon kind of drops off anyways, that the other day the Patriots receiving corps was really weakened, and obviously they had big tight ends problems.
Now Bill Belichick did address the tight end situation this year.
Didn't necessarily go ahead and address the wide receiver situation brought him Marqise Lee.
He's opted out for the season now.
They got to mere Bird, who knows how he's gonna be and how he's gonna come into play for things.
But I think at the end of the day, what we're looking at here is, even though a lot of people had Mohammed Sunu myself included as a possible cut candidate or trade candidate in the off season, with everything that's happened with Kobe, 19 and all that and apparently him being back and healthy from his ankle surgery, I think it's it's very it's not gonna happen.
He's gonna be a patriot this season.
He's going to play in the 2020 year, so the question that needs to be put out there is.
What should the Patriots expect out of Mohammed Sunu this year? And I'm gonna be honest with you.
Bill Belichick isn't just hoping that Mohammed Sunu bounces back from that ankle injury that he, you know, basically got Week nine against the Baltimore Ravens was never really the same.
Bill Belichick needs Mohammad Sanu to step up and play significant a significant role in the Patriots offense this season.
Yes, they improved the tight end situation, we think with Dalton King in Devon, Ozzie, Ozzie.
But at the end of the day, we don't know how to rookies are gonna perform.
Julian Edelman is really the only legit receiver that the Patriots have outside of Mohammed Sunu.
I mean, I know that people are going to talk about McKeel Herrion, Jacoby Meyers near throw names like gonna Roche s key and that kind of thing.
But I mean, admires a little bit proved that last UMA culinary skills improve that he's gonna be a successful wide receiver in the NFL.
And just because he's a patriot doesn't mean that he's going toe have success in the NFL.
It doesn't work that way.
We've seen watch receivers get picked in the 1st 2 rounds and not work out.
It happens in New England.
It happens everywhere.
Eso we need still need to see.
I'm not losing faith in the keel, Harry.
I'm not sitting here saying that he's not going to perform for the Patriots is here.
But I'm saying I'm not putting all my eggs in that basket.
So when we're kind of breaking all of this down and thinking about, where does this go from here and all that kind of thing? You know, I think it's really what we have to look at is what should we get out of Mohammed Sunu? He needs to be a true number two.
I know a lot of people, for some reason, having Akil areas at number two, but Mohammed Sunu needs to be that true.
Number two behind Julian Edelman, who's really probably a true number two on his own.
Um, but the Patriots needed to perform.
They need him to make catches.
They need him to help Cam Newton or Jared Stadium or, God forbid, Brian Hoyer.
Whoever is taking over at the quarterback position Mohammed Sunu positive outlet for him and make sure that he's making catches again.
It's in need for the Patriots.
It's not a want.
It's not a hope.
It's if the Patriots want to be successful on offenses here, they need him to perform.
I'm going to say to.
With Donte Hightower opting out of the season, it puts even more pressure on the Patriots offense because now the Patriots are weak in the middle.
I think teams were able to run the football on them, which is obviously going to leave the Patriots off the field.
The Patriots already struggled with, um, Mobile quarterbacks last year, and now they're going to be able to run freely up the middle.
Unless someone like you want Bentley really steps up.
I really don't see a lot of options in the middle linebacker position.
So the Patriots offense, I think at times they're gonna gonna have to go point for point.
And can we really depend on the Patriots running game to run into a championship? I mean, I know they did it at the end of the year in 2018 with Sony Michelle, but still the end of the day, Gronk made catches when he needed to.
Adelman made catches when he needed to, And I think that the Patriots, even though the running game should be vastly improved with a you know, an offensive line that should be better and tight ends that can actually block.
But of course, we lost Marcus Cannon, who's now opted out of the season as well.
So it's gonna be guys like to use their.
You stay, however you pronounce his name that the pages will be looking at.
We don't know how so I think it's gonna come down to Cam Newton who can run the ball.
But it's gonna come down to Cam Newton throwing the ball in.
A guy like Mohammed Sunu is going to be huge.
If he can bounce back and he needs to bounce back, it's that's just I mean, there's no if ands or buts about it.
Um, I wish I could sit here right now and be like, Yeah, you know what? It's good. It's fine.
Everything's gonna be great.
But the fact of the matter is, Mohammed Sunu wasn't great last season when he came in for the Patriots.
We can blame it on injury.
We've seen him working out.
He looks perfectly healthy now, and it's all going to come down to how he performs this season.
It's all gonna come down to how Mohammed Sunu can impact this Patriots offense, and it's gonna be absolutely crucial that he's able to jump back and able to come in and actually contribute to this team.
I mean, that's really if there's nothing more I can add to that. It's a need.
Because, you know, when we look at this Patriots receiving court, right? You got Julian Edelman.
You got some new you got, Harry, you got Myers.
You gotta Schelsky.
You know, Dimier Bird.
Um I know his Patriot fans want to sit there and say like how great this offense is.
Um, And look at these names, but attended the day.
They're just names.
And let's face it, if we saw that list of names on a different team, it wouldn't be striking fear in us.
We like maybe because the Patriots we do a lot of digging on them all that he can do this and he's this good.
Is that good? But at the end of the day, it's, you know, outside of Julian Edelman, it's a bunch of names.
Ah, so I don't know how confident I am in this Patriots even court.
I don't think they're gonna be horrible.
And I, you know, But I think that our expectations need to be a level of, I don't know, lower than Pro Bowl.
The way I think some patron fans are kind of aligning things.
Ah, you know, it's But you guys know that Bulls dogs barking once people screaming bunch dogs barking Oh, people fighting and screaming just like a fight going on in my street now, anyway, Sorry, guys.
I got distracted there because I hear people screaming and yelling at each other, so yeah, but the Patriots are going to need to get that done.
And I don't know, I got nothing really more, Dad.
That's pretty much it.
Um, let me know what you guys think.
It's a ticket to see you
