you try out again.
I want somebody to give me that.
When you woke up this morning, when you start a train, your tryout started with you.
Welcome to another episode.
Way back his wife, James of my Gamma Day Neil Everett special, Friedman said Moses, Brad Lawson, Rex Chapman and every else that made the trip worth mentioning.
Today we have the brand new Fresno Fire head coach, Rinaldo Major.
He's that you're probably the most famous person that we've had on the show so far.
So I really appreciate you coming on, man.
Thank you. And I'm happy to be on. Thank you.
What s So how does it feel to be the new Ah, Fresno Fire head coach? Actually, it just it feels awesome.
May like when Dave called me and we talked about it and I'll talk to Spencer and we made the deal finalized.
It was just It gave me a joy that just I don't know, as I explained why I was so happy.
Because it's what I want to do.
I want a coach I wanna pass on.
His knowledge of basketball is this is something I want to do it like I wanna build Great man. And Bill Great.
Seems like Honest and Jordan.
It's like a real blessing.
And I'm so excited.
Like I even started writing up plays and rules in my little book and everything like that seeming everything.
So I'm very excited.
I can't wait for February and training camp to start, so it's a little background.
The Fresno fires a brand new T B l T Mountain, Fresno.
You know, how did that How did you first find out about the team? And then, you know, I think you were the first call like you were the first choice for the head coach.
Um, you know, and so that's I mean, it's gotta be a joy for you as well.
So, you know, how did you hear about the team and how that ball get rolling? Honestly, is this It's funny because one of my buddies on Facebook tagged me and the Fresno fire.
Uh, they have put up a post and e taking.
I was like, man, maybe not a major.
Be a good candidate.
And then I hit up mags and we went from there, and it just happened from there in.
It's just it's crazy out time and it is like everything is time and time was writing.
It just happened.
Just a match made, you know, from Fresno.
Wants them from credible, played a president, stated.
I got a lot of times that Fresno, you know.
So it's like it's like going back home, and it's like going back home.
That's also weight is the Fresno State is your What's your mascot? We're bored dogs.
We bulldogs, um pulled you and Paul George Man.
George, We gotta think about Paul George.
Grateful all of that.
We got a few stars that can through that rate.
First rate for Austin went toe Fresno State.
Yeah. Grateful Austin with friends.
Yeah, rate falls.
And and then Paul George is actually Ah, it's so funny.
When I went to Fresno State the last time I was there, visiting actually meant Paul George, what's a basketball game? You see it in his eyes that he wanted to be just one of the greats.
You see any like I'm going to be one of grace made.
He kept saying it over and over.
Like will be one of great somebody wanted Gray said.
It's so funny that he really is so man, he Ah So he played in Indiana game for the Pacers.
So I like Psalm, you know, growing up, I was watching him play all the time.
These incredibly good.
Any works are too like there's like, You know, it's incredible.
So I want to give a little background on you for the for the viewers on the show.
I'm gonna run down your resume real quick.
Stop me when you want, but this is a really impressive resume.
You're 38 years young.
You played a Carver High School where there's a lot of legends.
Tim Hardaway Jr or Tim Hardaway.
You play the South Plains Junior College, Fresno State played in the C B A.
Then get playing that day. Leak.
Uh, you gotta call it to the Warriors to play for the Bakersfield Jam, Your A D League All Star USBL champion dealing sportsmanship Award winner dealing.
Defensive player of the year D league champion all first team D league TB. A legend.
You're the D League logo and you're the all time leading scorer.
Yeah, I amount of breath.
I'm out of breath saying all those things.
I just let you know that I love basketball.
I love, love, basketball, Love best.
That's I mean, that's an impressive resume.
Okay, when you see the D League logo on your like artist me, like does that does that bring a joy to you or you just like, Yeah, whatever.
Well, I don't know.
It is still not official, like it's 50 50 like half people say it is made in another half Say is not me, but they was thinking of me, so I don't know.
But I, like, just even be mentioning that breath just as a lot because I played in that league because I just want to keep playing.
You know, I didn't want to play overseas, and I knew my chance of making the N B A wasn't going to be good.
So I just want to keep it in that league and and help other guys get there.
The young guys showed him the way in eventually in the plan, like 10 12 years, and that's how the records came and the sporting everything because, like I said, just a love plan.
I didn't like missing games on many sharp late and over many games.
Westen season just played and played and played.
And that's how the numbers got there.
Yeah, I think that what You know, what's your most impressive or what? You're most proud moment as a player in your career, And I have had a really long career, you know? What's the most proud that you could say? Okay, this is where I'm the most proud of myself here.
Uh, actually, I got to if if that's okay, you can You could say five.
No, no, honestly, but like, these are to mine.
Like the 1st 1 I have to say is calling my dad let him know.
That was, like, the best selling like because, you know, he died the year after that.
And all the one who ever wasn't she a major Juries name on the back end majors major name.
So, like call him and let him know I made the n b a and we both crying over the phone, and that just said his name right now that still gives me chills.
Because it was still so powerful because, like, I know I made him so happy and and him dying the next year does that. You know, he was at peace.
He was finally at peace, and he was okay with transitioning to the next level.
But my 2nd 1 is just making a the professional team are rookie here because I had to beat out seven rookies with a draft signals and in the CBO, every Steelheads and it drafted seven players.
And honestly, I didn't know what I was about the doctor to get a regular job coach taking her.
He end up calling me and was like a founder of the game tape in the bottom of the barrel.
And I wonder if you want to come in and try out for the Gary Steelheads.
I'm like, Sure, like you got to be down Seven guys, several rookies we draft getting.
I was like, I don't care who you drive time to beat him out because this is my destiny now, like this lets me know like God wants me to play basketball.
There's no stopping man from that day on, is just My journey started in I end up here now, like I'm just so blessed I'm so best have a great career and and do all the things I have done.
And that's just because that's God as great family and myself that your dad's story gave me chills when I when I heard it, man, that's Ah, it almost made me cry a little bit.
I mean, yes, that's that's incredible.
That's friend, man, my best friend and my mentor and I called him at the every game and just said because my my someone better seem like until Central it has been around because the bureau, when Dan was just life like everybody loved them and spoke highly of him and he was, has always up left in the encouraging and try to try up left.
I'm trying encourage.
Don't be great at coaching, because I'm gonna build guys up like sometimes I'll beat you down.
But I'm a build you up and keep you inspired.
I will keep you motivated.
I'm keeping on the get better and better, and no, since I was like that's why I'm ready toe, really coach and mentor these kids.
I think that you know, you know all throughout your career and you and you have mentioned it before, you've kind of taken a mentorship role every step of the way.
Um, you know, let's talk a little bit about the Gary Steelheads and kind of your been tours from that team in the C B A and how that's helped you out throughout your career.
It is great that you mentioned that because, like I'm not the player I am without that first year in the c b A mill satellite, when I came in like I was a 24 year rookie alternative his own in I had really veterans like nowadays, you go to the minor leagues and your veterans, like 46 27 doesn't like I had better is That was 35 36 like Shelley Clark play for the University of Illinois.
You know, send back in the early nineties, never got a chance to play in the N.
Babel's A Great Mind League, where Jemele rich the best point guards ever played against a riel leader like David Gray's when the all time leader scores at the University of Notre Dame.
But he never got a chance to play in the N B A.
But Damra Han****, you play in the NBA, like Visa, is a legend in Atlanta.
You know, he played against all the greats and and be doing in the early nineties.
Everything was like I had riel veterans teaching me the game.
Now let me short cut the game.
I'll give me cheap the game make a sharp as a professional warning off the court that wouldn't just like they're working.
It was like part of my best year of learning the game, just learning how to be a professional learning work at the learn how to carry myself like that.
Therefore, she was so important to my development.
That's what I'm trying to be Nazi kids and show on the road because like I showing the ropes at an early age and that helped me throughout my career, there's a lot of young players that come through like like, I think, the average age of I don't know the actual statistic, but all the rookies right now or, you know, even illegally 18 19.
But now TVL rookies air probably 22 23 24 years old and that's I'm as young.
I was really young.
You're just kind of just now starting to learn how to become professional.
Certainly learn how to go through life.
Um, you know, and I think you're just gonna do a really good job with that.
Uh, you know, let's talk a little bit about you know, that dealing experience for you.
You know, you jump from the CBS.
You went right to the D League, Is that correct? Yeah.
Oh, well, I'll play the first year in the city gate, and I went us beyond.
And after that, I wanted to delete.
Okay, Now what? The experience in the D League.
You play for some really good coaches then, too, you know, Name, name a couple of those guys and and how they impacted you.
Well, actually, I played like I will say, through the best coaches like Dave Yeager.
First for the Dakota Wizards.
He was the head coach for the Sacramento Kings.
I'm just just a true basketball head.
He knows the game in and out.
Great motivator, like he just I couldn't get his break with the case and he was what the Grizzlies is well, just never could really get that break and showed his really coaching skills.
Not for that play for Ah, neighbor jerk.
And he's assistant close for Toronto Raptors right now.
Okay, I'm not saying you just want to ring last year and I was so happy.
Well, she said, before that, I was so happy that he wondering and he was like, one of my best course because no matter what, he was the Players Coast.
But he also liked Drew the line of respect.
You gonna respect me, But I'm a players coach.
I understand what you guys going through.
I been in your shoes.
I know what's going on, but at the same time, you're gonna respect me as a man.
But as a coach, you can come to me and talk me anytime you want.
And whenever you need something, if I can help you on our help you on, it's just awesome, like awesome.
And then my other coaches will boy play foreign. Bacon still jam.
I think he was a great great person.
Great man, great father, great husband like he was.
That's awesome of something waste like I really got a chance to learn the game from three great coaches and dealing again.
That's just going to help me because I always like reflecting on things they show me and the things I learned from them.
So when I want to incorporate into my system and how I want things to be not become already been blessed like for like the plague us, we'll play with great plants and because by great coaches.
So I've been blessed.
I think it's I want to.
I got two things I want to touch on, Um, how you talk about your coaches and you say how they're a great father and husband And I think that's that's so mature of you to say, because, you know, we talk about basketball were like, Okay, you know, he's a really good Coach, X's and O's guy, great guy, But But you're you've got the whole sphere and I think that's why you're gonna really succeeded because you understand, Boom.
You know, I could be a great coach, you know, in a great father, in a great husband and a great friend and a great brother and great, you know, whatever it may be.
And now you're all well rounded and I think that's that's super mature of you say, and you know I'm learning more from this conversation, You know that I have to have.
So because this is this is great.
So but you know that that is my modeling.
Like, honestly, like I want to close, but I want to open up my own center called Major Development One developed kids like how won't kind of talk how to talk on the microphone in front of your face that you carry yourself.
One, of course, had to respect the game like I don't want you to just be great on the court.
I want to be great off the court as well.
And I expect that of my coaches and my players.
And everybody wants respect that for me.
I'm not going to be great on a coat on the court coaching.
You'll be great up the court, doing the right things.
Trying to write things like this is big.
Like I want the player want everything about the player.
I want you to be great overall, like not just in certain areas.
Great over walls.
That's what I'm building.
Have you ever seen you know? I mean, David Magalie, his brother Pat Magaly has a administrates.
Yeah, up in here.
Oh, It's called Heroes Camp. Incredible.
Weirdly enough, I went up there like a month ago.
I played and I met pad and all that stuff.
And when I came back to Indianapolis, so is that a U tournament? And like I said, like five guys with the Heroes camp shirt on Well, you know, that's incredible.
That's and I want actually, Is he still doing those counts? Oh, yeah, yeah, he's running it. You've got to come.
If you ever come to Indiana, go.
You know, you got to go to South and get with Mags and go up there.
It's It's super nice.
Does not from from Chicago, and I want to go to Chicago next summer.
It's trying to see my mom, and I might have to do that because I really want to do that.
I'm seeing them doing that in.
We'll get to know him.
But he just seemed like a also man.
You really seem like an awesome man.
He's very, you know, Either you really like him or you don't, but he's just so rhea with people that you just you have to respect him.
He's got respect from everybody.
What do you like him or you don't you have? He has respect.
And sometimes respect is better than love.
And like like I like everybody like the A menu.
It's what? That smile, man.
It's hard to not like you.
I haven't heard one person say a bad thing about yet.
I'm like, Come on, Member.
And although you can't be all great, you know you don't like They're like, Oh, we love we love what? He's great.
You know? I had to develop, like in my early days, I was I was a little knucklehead, but I developed I the girl like and that's what I want.
He's gonna know, like I we have a passport and did this or whatever it is you didn't did make you go down this road.
It's okay, like now just get better from this day forward and keep going to get better.
So that's what about getting better each day.
Let's talk a little bit about I just I watched the video on YouTube.
It's like from 24 team.
It's Dave Yager talking about.
It's like, yeah, we're about to go on a road trip and I'm come kind of telling guys what's going on, and he's like at the end I say, uh, and Ronaldo's packing up to leave on a flight tomorrow morning to go to Golden State and every is like, you know, Oh, God, talk about that experience.
I was out crazy was that That was like like I said, like, it's like my like, my soul left my body.
It wasn't really like Jordan.
It was not really like, I just know we just play the game and I was just I was just laid again that night and I was just born in some more room and until my buddies was coming up about actually buy the place.
But not we was big Monopoly as we love.
No, Like George, do you think I'm lying like we was? Competitors help Monopoly like that serious game like if you come there, playing around find might happen if you don't make the right moves in right field.
So we will go to the play Monopoly.
I remember in the Commissioner of the league, I said that President Lee Christoper was like Renata needed Chelsea.
Okay, you are you send down.
I'm thinking some bad news.
I'm like, OK, don't need to be sent down here like No.
Well, you think I got up to the Golden State Warriors? Oh, come on.
A I just My body went lifeless, like for 20 minutes.
I just praise the Lord Like I just praise the Lord.
And I called my dad after that, but 1st 2030 minutes late.
Oh, my God. Whatever.
Like whatever best money you ever felt.
That's what I said.
Like what they say you forward.
I'll know euphoric feeling.
It felt like the best of the never light, I don't know is like it just felt amazing.
Like it about the kind of make me choke herbal open now because it's just It's like I did it for my whole family.
You know, like the way like my dad was a great player on a herd of Ricky Green.
If you look a Rick Greene.
He played back in the seventies, a great MBA player.
My dad played with him in high school and he was about to win the state championship, end up, get kicked off the team because those and he was friend with the gangs and never got a chance to be great.
And he always something like, Be great.
I had a chance to make the n b a in I messed up.
And I know a major can play an MBA in just to get that call up for him that you hear that a major's an MBA in the next day.
Good to see a major name on the back of a jersey.
Just It's just still like that.
Still my greatest Come a sweet having my son.
But my son is first because he's my life and he's my hair.
He's going to carry the torch That said it was great.
So my dad to see that in here there.
Yeah, I know who Ricky Green is that he's a legend.
Yeah, that my grandpa played in the seventies to see Yeah, he no, like he would talk about Green.
Yeah, you know, great. With bad.
And my dad No, Lamade, Like I used to bust him up and even know not even a France was like, uh, like, your dad was better. Henrik Greenlee.
Even the practice, every like Ricky Green is good, but Ronald measure is so much better.
But it's just like he was dealing with gays and other stuff, and it was like he couldn't get on the right track.
But that's why he was as big, only making MBA and just to make it in because he e crime wanted me on the phone.
He really like, Come on, you must be tougher than me.
Like you cry like a big baby like don't need to come over their whole Jews.
I'm not Hey, I'm not gonna hold you man on wire to cry on this podcast is gonna be bad.
I'm barter credits far cast right now.
I actually, you know, I think it's great.
I was gonna touch on this later on the show.
But, um, you know, people were asking there, like who you got on this week? And I said, Ronaldo, Major said he loves being a dad.
That was my That was my response to that.
You know, they're like, Who's Adam? Like Many loves being a dad.
I think he's a great dude.
I love, like no la every day, like Oh, I just love being a dad, like, even when my son is getting drugged up.
I'll be waiting, waiting.
You could. I'm sorry.
Like a big old kids is waiting on the line.
I love everything about, like, parenthood and being a dad and just show him the ropes.
Like I love her and Dad out 1000 times a day like that.
That that that that that I love that like it gives me power every time he says, like your power, I can't I can't living on my son.
That's why I made the move here.
Like are retiring last year in the prime of my career.
And it's funny you, like 37.
I was still greater.
I just want to the championship game.
I was averaging 25 10 in the finals, you know, like a 37 years old, like I will feel good. I want to do it.
Even my coaches like you're the best player in the TBL that you could play another 45 years easy and I could like honestly, right now I'm still great and what I do.
I still got that right now and dominate like that.
So I was like my teammates, my teammates but my place Like they combatively we could go to the court and better inside a collection like No, this one, I really do.
But no, I'm ready to close.
But like I was saying like, is this? It is just this this this time the coach.
And it was time to move out here on my son.
And, you know, that's why I did that.
And it was self at first because I moved out here with no job, no apartment, but no God made away in I'm seeing their blessing, everything I needed.
Now I'm even more blessed with his job.
That's close to Fresno socking I could stay here in Bakersfield.
I could travel to friends, though I still could raise my son.
And I got my nephew are here.
I'm training him as well.
So I got both in him under my wing, and I'm just I'm happy.
Jordan, I'm happy, Very happy.
I think that's great to hear. And I'm happy for you.
You are very blessed and and I think that you know I'm blessed as well to be a part of tbl, and I get to talk to you and and learn from you.
I think I think this is amazing.
Let's I know, I know time is dwindling down a little bit, you know, Let's talk a little bit about, you know, a tvl and what you thought about the playing.
Ah, the competition in Yakima when your plan and how you know actually, how good the league is? Because there's a lot of really good players that play in this league, you know, and kind of talk about that a little bit.
Well, I'll say like I want to thank Man Dave Magnet and have a magnet like those guys allowed me to end my career well, once because I was leaving a Geely because I don't know what I want to do.
I don't know if one of the coaches will keep on Planet.
You know, I got a call that day will start the league up, and I'm like, get into China's leak out in.
Once I got that lead, was that everything I anticipated would be, you know, like a few teams struggle, you know, saying like just making also like I know almost 1/4 like fans and getting fans in this net.
But For the most part, the league was awesome.
It's just it was just like a springboard for a lot of players.
Like, Do you want to go to the Julie got today? So you want to go overseas? Like Like you can just come here.
Just think, OK, this tbl league is a full gaze.
Legal. It is not a good lead.
No, is ready talent like a little talent? Mainly, like in the big the big ever to Yakima Sun Kings and knows that once they are the New York every Albany We was two good teams, but overwrought and it was really good, like I had good core players and honestly, that's why I want to stay in this league and actually coach.
So I was happy that they've Magli allowed me to be a culture.
I don't want to be assistant.
I want to be a head coaching is think so.
Like I was having ideal out.
Maybe it goes because it's so much down here.
No one's just help these guys get there because I know what it takes to get to that next level where the genie go overseas because I was an inquisition.
I started from the bottom.
It was like, I know what I know what it takes in this.
I'm like I just wanted to know, like, don't look at this league as like, just any other legal just will be that he's just gonna come in and be a surrounding Just say OK, the CBO this league is not really it is, really.
It can take you to where you want to be.
If you think of aspiration of G me, like I say overseas will make one day in because it is possible even knows that 1% 2% chance there's a chance that you could make your dreams come true with this league.
So when you come here, make sure you take a serious and and make sure you give it your own and makes you going toe in the sand and make sure you you're doing the right things off the court is were on the court, but you don't want to get a legal black eyes.
This CBL really can't grow, and I'm just happy that I'm allowed to grow with the because the MBA in the D League and CBO.
That's how she had leadership three top leagues in North America or United States because come in the genie is one.
That's at least what if you're not a genie, you should want playing Tbl because the TV is a great league and it's only going to grow and grow and grow in them or you re marketed and more press.
We get just going to Tina growing Maybe one day can surpass Julie Never know, Never know, man.
And it's and I'm blessed to be here with you and growing Ligas.
Well, it's, Ah, it's exciting time, You know, we all the covert stuff going on.
Maybe players don't go overseas player.
It's going to be, Oh, going to stay in the TV out is going to blow up like I just see, and I just I want to be a part of life cause it was just like the Julie was.
The D League started off my 1st 1 of the legal suit down seven, and it wasn't it wasn't as good as it is now, and it just detained a growing growing actually noticed one of the top please.
In America, I will say the top league, if you're not in NB eight.
So it is the top league in the United States.
That's why Tbl could be just like that.
And I just I wanted no part of that.
Well, Ronaldo, I really appreciate you way.
Don't got time for your speed round today.
Unless you want to do it.
You can do it way got time.
I just let my son understanding.
Understand? I got you right here.
We're gonna work on time it up.
Speed round if you can beat me a guy got 15 questions.
If you can get all 15 you win.
If not, you know, I I get the wind.

Not monopoly competitive.
