I just let me give her a call. That question.
See? Oh, perfect.
I think I figured it out.
Okay. You guys hear me? Yeah.
All right, let's get it.
Anyone say so? Yeah.
No, President, this isn't going anywhere Crazy.
Just my personal SportsCastrs.
So isn't gonna be a lot pressure.
Don't you worry.
Oh, huge pressure.
How are you guys? Great.
You guys doing okay? Yeah.
My family just flunk the office trivia quiz.
But other than that, I would like to show the office.
Yeah, it's one of my favorite shows of all time.
And I thought that, like, I was, like, elite and like, how much I knew.
And Chris, are you doing a lot of doing good? I've just been, like I've been saying, and my aunts were, like, the past couple of weeks, So just been, like, around all the kids.
And today, my cousin, um, I like shorter what Hannah Montana was, and she's like, I I'm like, No, no, no, no, no.
You need to watch it.
And after a couple episodes, she was hooked.
Family time is important.
We got both you coming off some family time, so we're gonna just get it started right now.
It's just gonna be some light MLB talk.
Obviously, it's just having some fun here.
So obviously baseball comes back very, very, very soon.
It's launching this week, which is awesome if you haven't seen, obviously are MLB Department's been doing all types of crazy fun stuff.
Put out, meet the team articles and a lot of put one out.
I'm sure we'll get one up for Isabel sometime soon.
We got a new MLB show that's actually alive right now on Twitter multiple.
Twitter's with Jesse.
We got Ryan Anderson on there, too, so that's very fun.
So, yeah, a lot of new baseball content.
I'm super pumped to be talking with these two lovely ladies today.
Two of the newest members of the unwrapped family, Of course, too big baseball heads just like myself.
I'm wearing my Angel City Brewery's shirts, my Los Angeles based favorite brewery that gives me my Los Angeles Dodgers looking kind of apparel.
But yes, I want to start off.
First off, tell me both your guys favorite teams I know.
Ah, Lana, you could start off with that.
When I know, I think we both went to the same college.
We got the Arizona State connection.
So I want to hear your baseball roots, you know? How did you get into it? You know, I'm assuming Diamondbacks, right? Yeah, I'm Yeah, I'm a Diamondbacks fan, so I'm not the biggest fan of that. I'm sorry.
So I got into baseball because I got into sports honestly overall, because of my grandpa, I just remember, like waking up on Saturday mornings, watching soccer with him, like ever since I was little, and he just kind of started watching the dime back because we lived in Arizona and he kind of, like, latched onto it.
And then from there I did too.
Like I remember going to the games when I was in great school.
My honest earn earliest travel memory is literally at Bank One ballpark getting a beer spilled on me at a game on.
Then I got a T shirt.
So it's great ever in a couple, actually on it.
So I kind of just been brighter.
Die Diamondbacks Ever since they were a purple and teal never changed colors, but it's fine.
Yeah, I I love the old school colors for them myself.
Any direct threats? So that's why I'm I guess, Yeah, that's why I got into baseball.
Overall was just that I was a kid. It was on TV.
I started watching, and then I kind of just like, kept going and yeah, no, I don't plan on switching ever.
I know baseball.
The hard thing is getting like the new generation into baseball.
It's so tough nowadays because of N B A and NFL doing all the cool things, especially MBA.
NFL is still a little behind on some things, but the MLB This hasn't changed the game and just so long, finally starting to see like players that you can get excited about, like back flips and Bryce Harper's and stuff like that.
It's like the's big personalities that you're just like, Whoa, I wanted to name I want to watch them as a kid.
You want to be them.
But yeah, you know, I think finally we're starting to get to a point.
I think this is a big season for us to be ableto have a shortened season.
I think 180 something games is a lot to handle, you know, for especially someone that's just getting into it.
You want to see the playoffs.
That's when you want to get into it.
But you know, I'm glad to see you got in early.
I think that's how it usually works.
It's grandpas, your dad or someone that loves baseball is America's pastime.
So they kind of bring you in, you know, is about.
So tell me a little about your baseball past.
Yeah, um I hope my hurt now.
Well, like I was flying around to your and I went to a Mets game it like it's one of those memories for it's like, Yeah, you've seen so many photos of you at that memory.
But this one, you couldn't kind of you in your own mind like your you could just see the view.
And I can still remember seeing like sitting the what Oldfield open up in front of me sitting up at the top and seeing a Greenfield seeing Mr Matt Kimberly loving it.
I dont know why thats that kind of movie, you know, you really get it. I love this.
Whatever I think I think I loved my uncle took me to the Dodgers stadium for the first time.
I think I fell in love with, like, the atmosphere before I actually fell in love with the game itself because that you took me before I started actually playing.
Thank you so much for the equipment we disguise from someone that's route.
I think it was for the love, but yes.
So obviously I really fell in love with the aura.
Angeles Dodger Stadium is not a high tech stadium.
Chase Field is much more advanced.
I've been to both.
They like to update it a lot.
Dodgers Stadium, they like to go with.
Yeah, well, it's the old kind of historical kind of place, and you wanted relish in that, and you can appreciate that to a certain extent.
But when I went to Chase Field, I was like, Yeah, this is super up to date.
Like there is the amount of screens amount of technologies that they have.
There is just Rahm stock.
Tristan, Um, so at least that's my experience at Chase Field.
I know you said you're a Mets fan, right? As well.
Well, I'm actually a Yankee scramble like Metz was your first kind of memory kind of thing.
And there's like, pictures of me like, you know, you guys here Speaking of the Mets, you hear like Alex Rodriguez J.
I think they're getting a whole group together to try and buy the Mets.
Yeah, like I always thought, that beard that, like, um, direct teacher had gone to Florida by a team.
And I was like, Why wouldn't he look try to buy the Mets of something like Derek Jeter? Is scope perfect for Miami? Get out of here.
He he just Derek cheaters has so much swag to have that what he'd done, I'm like, Oh, he's gotta speak.
Kicked up with his $1,000,000 stags on the beach, watching his team stock, but he's still making the same amount of money.
You know, I like some of that same energy like repair.
I feel like they're very much you, too, but glad that they're trying to contribute to New York and having that baseball cold.
You think that didn't So I got so part of the city.
But we're Roger Stadium.
Dodger Stadium is awesome.
I've been there a few times when I lived in L A.
And it's like, so high.
It's so cool because one of those stadiums where when it was built, it was the new Clashes Stadium.
Now it's now being older.
Yeah, I think Kobe is.
It has these, like, you know, compared to Wrigley, it has those cool, new new things, even though now it really I remember it was like 2012 and I was going, like, opening day, and they're making, like, a big deal out of, like, all these changes they were making around in stuff and I went to the last opening day, So I was like, Awesome, like, I'm gonna go in there is coming this new high tech place and I swear they just, like, change the color of blue on the walls from, like, Dodger blue toe like, you know, sky Blue.
And I was like, Come on and all you did Like he added, like extra parking sponsored, like the far right.
It's just like God.
We did more Dodger dogs were like an inch longer.
A the edge that inches important.
You want the most clear buck nowadays, You know start out.
Trader Joe's in there.
Amazing doctor ducks.
So, Alana, tell me, do you have a winner that year? I know people are saying the Dodgers people are saying that Astros people saying The Yankees, There's some team I will die.
I Let's start with that.
So I like that better.
So I want to hear both your opinions on the Astros scandal cause I feel like that got swept under the rug.
I feel like the pandemic happened.
Obviously, Manfred fumbled the situation and all this stuff happened.
No one's been suspended, nothing like that, and so swept it under the rug.
What do you think about it? Cause now the Astros don't have fans to boo at them like they get such a cheap out in this one.
You know, like it's what I want to hear. Your a period.
Ah, I mean, in my opinion, I think Manfred needs to, like, do something like, Yeah, obviously we have a shortened season, and if they get whatever like repercussions, it'll count for this like short season and, you know, depending on whatever, what the contractor it says.
But I think like something needs to be done because I mean, yeah, like they cheated the game like that's just it's just it's so upsetting and just at all, like the players trying to cover themselves up about, like, this tattoo.
And it's something about a T shirt like, I just Yeah, I think something should be done.
And I know that a couple like something Tom Teams came out there like Oh, like we haven't done the same thing Or, like other players have like said like 01 whatever team I played for, like we've done the same Buddhist something along the same lines, like Okay, give them repercussions to, like just because the Astros other in the land like here doing this, I think all just like repercussions.
Is this some sort first, for I know it's a long time like before any of us were around, but there was this something called the Black Sox scandal and yeah, it was, you know, Shoeless Joe and all these guys that and pretty much they got caught for some stuff and they got really badly punished, like so badly punished that it was like a really set standard of like you want to mess around.
Here's what's gonna happen bringing the hammer down and nothing else happened for like, 100 years.
And then, like the Astros stuff comes around.
We're like, it's all good, like you do your thing, you know? And now it's like, Wait, wait, time out.
We were just, like, let this happen.
And with Manfred, like, he isn't the most popular commissioner by any means.
But, I mean, it seems like with the way that they went about these debates to to get the get their season back, it just seems like they weren't even negotiate in good faith.
Like Manfred just seems like a sketchy dude.
When if you're looking at like the N B A.
For example, you got Adam Silver.
He fear he literally theory the bubble.
It was like, I want to create this bubble.
It's going to the only way we can do it.
We have zero Corona virus cases since July 12th in the bubble.
That's the whole point.
He's the first lead to legalize gambling with them, like he doesn't care If thing Neil, he doesn't care if the fister up he doesn't care about any of that.
He's a player's mind listener while wanting the, you know, making improvements changed the All Star Game.
He might even change the playoffs that to just a full seeding kind of thing, like college, like if you're willing to make those many changes, if that means just yourself being willing able to do that, we're being able to listen to others that have really good ideas.
That's a really important thing to have in a leadership position.
You know, in any place you you need to be able to listen.
Teoh the people that are consuming your product as well as people that air, making the product possible and figure out what it is that people want.
Because baseball is lucky to have us three s fans at our age ranging, you know, in baseball haven't done anything to pull any new fans in in the last 40 years.
Beyond saying your dad was a baseball fan.
Your mom was a baseball fan.
Your grandpa, your grandma, whoever it was that loved baseball in your life taught you that, you know.
But what have they done to bring new people in or show that they're changing with the times? Do you know what I mean? well, and that was the biggest debate, too.
When I feel like when Manfred was trying to negotiate with the players about them coming back, it was like we're in the middle pandemic and everyone is sitting at home and you have the opportunity the first, like team, or like, sport to come back.
And you just blew it with this and with that and all these negotiations going back and forth.
So no way could be made that Yeah, they want this new young generation.
But then they just, like, fumbled it again with how little negations and how they went about it on.
I mean, now, now all the other sports coming back, which is great.
But you basically miss this window of there being nothing on TV.
And the Kubo did it.
And everyone like everyone was clinic in the old team.
And everyone was all obsessed like people were staying up to watch it And thats why is there another baseball league going on in the world and not the MLB? Exactly.
If they're able to make it work, why can't we just copy people's models? You know, something like that, I totally agree, is about let me hear your thoughts on this whole situation with Manfred.
Yeah, well, honestly, I think that's something that you know.
I've really admired about a lot of women's leagues right now that they jumped in right away and all these conversations were for they had a really good job being up about getting in early so that they have this year.
The Nwsl hasn't brand you deal with CBS, and so they were already going to have, um, better airtime and reach a wider audience.
But I think the MLB really miss an opportunity.
I think it would've been sick if they have, like, an All Star game.
Like make you know, the top 50 players all go into a locked down for two weeks ship mold of Florida, Arizona and then have you know, a little mini bracket of, like, five team.
I mean, think about it.
Like, look at the UFC like look what they did.
If you don't want to do a whole bubble, you went to Florida, found a place that was willing to do it.
They put the people in quarantine for, like, two weeks.
They test them when they got there, they test them day to test them three.
Every day you're doing, you don't see anyone or do anything beyond other people that are under these exact same protocols.
By the end of it, you get tested again.
We bring into the facility, we check you again and make sure nothing happened on the way we even wait another couple days.
Make sure the incubation periods done.
We test you again.
At that point, you're clear.
Your coaches were clear.
Everyone in that building is clear.
You have a clear Corona virus free event.
If that's a one day event, Yes, but you know, if you're not going to do a bubble, that's where it kind of scares me like it's funny.
My mom, like, doesn't know sports very much.
But, like, really wants to, you know, like just and loves that I love sports and, like, will ask me like, What does that mean? Even though she doesn't care, she just wants me to talk about it cause she knows I'll get happy and, like, passionate about it, right? But she was like, Honestly, the stuff was saying about the NBA's sounds really cool.
The bubble like that sounds like in this time.
That sounds like a really good idea.
She's like, What's baseball doing? And I kind of just, like sit there for a second, like nothing much.
There kind of is traveling to certain places they're not having at one.
They're limiting the travel, they're still traveling.
They're not doing a bubble.
There's a lot more people on the teens.
So I was like, I don't really know.
I was like, We're just gonna wait and see how baseball goes.
And my mom was like, Well, that doesn't sound like the same amount of plans and the same amount of effort put in by the N B A.
And I go, Mom, that's that's That's right.
That's probably best you said about all day like No, it didn't take much thought Manfred didn't go into How are we gonna do this with all the time that we have to create something different than the KBL? We're gonna go copy the KBL, but then wait all this time missed our window of getting new fans just like you said.
Why aren't why isn't every player not miked up right now for this 60 games, we need to hear dugout cameras.
I need miked up.
I don't want any delay.
What we think baseball players are talking smack the same ways and an MBA or NFL.
No, they're not.
They're very much spread out.
You know, the interaction you have with someone when you're a shortstop in someone's on second base as a runner is five minutes tops, you know, 10 minutes tops like you're not even clapping hands anymore.
So the amount of area toe to **** talk is probably a little less.
We don't need a delay.
Let's get the raw baseball.
Let's see how some of these guys talk to each other. Let's get excited.
I want to see Ronald Acuna are you know, Cody ballons or talk a little smack and then throw the bag.
You know, into the seventh row because no one's in there.
I want to see him do the biggest bat toss you've ever seen in your life.
The badges shatters into a 1,000,000 pieces when it hits the eighth road just cause he can.
There's no fans there.
Why not like that's TV? You know, that's entertainment.
I would love to see some of these guys taking stands for social justice and, you know, supporting women in sports and other things.
When you're on a big platform right now, which isn't a lot of people, you need to take advantage of 100% and speak the thing that matter, but at the same time keeping the back your head.
How do we get more fans like, How do we keep people to keep watching us past this 60 game season? Because we have people's attention span right now? Where will we in the future? Who knows, You know, and you know that window only stays open for so long kind of thing.
So I agree with you both, and I'm really happy to hear your guys and opinions on that.
I know we're kind of like So I also feel like baseball.
I feel like we're always like we're never in the news for, like, the good things, you know, like first it was the Astros on the nose, Manfred and the negotiations, and it was like, Can't we do something? We're like, It's cool and it's different, Like how the X and sell in the eighth.
I like Donald these different things, and people really wanted that.
You know that inside look and things like that and that's how I feel.
Like the level in the bubble, you know, is doing so These players are making blondes or there, showing like how they're doing way, like in the hotel room.
It's money and it's cool.
That's what we want that Z I love what you just said, like the vlogs and all that stuff, to like really bad people into the experience.
And it's so fun, like you relate so much better and you really get to feel who these people are, you know, beyond just the athlete and like you get to see how they're reacting in this situation that you're just waiting to unravel like you're sitting here like Like, how is this bubble gonna work out? And then you got Matisse Stibel, who has a legit snow of like the bubble and it's just he's happened fun and the smiling, and he's laughing, and it makes me happy to see people doing that.
So absolutely I love what you just said right there cause it's on these players to, you know, really get more fans.
Yeah, and I think from exactly I think if we were If the MLB like a magnet to come up with their whole new idea of how to give plans and said Look, But if they just copy what the N B A is doing or what you know, just like miking up players like that's something that I feel that the younger generation would want to see.
And I think, you know, came that everyone, you know, it's like a denying spore or whatever.
A little older generational likes it and, you know, shifted over to that younger generations of put want.
They want the inside access.
That's just like it's just what they want to see, which is totally understandable.
I think everyone does.
And like I said, we've loved it with NBA and the NFL inside fast.
We're just having them will be do something somewhere, I think would be really awesome.
Isabel, I know you're gonna jump in.
Let me know what you guys say.
Yeah, I mean, I think a perfect example of how a lot of people say that thing about baseball That's boring, you know, it's like, OK, well, you see the way the last way you threw away golf cart thinking over the country in a starting to change.
Why, exactly why is golf blowing up right now? And you're gonna stay? Baseball's boring like you got so many eyes on Gulf.
We had the whole entire Monday's show that we had on our live lineup was just dedicated the gulf gambling like I would have never thought that that would have been something that would be headlining stuff.
But it's it's hot stuff right now.
People are into it and why It's because they are taken advantage of that window when all the eyes are on them. Absolutely.
Yeah, like the Tiger Woods Phil ****elson thing.
Everything was awesome around.
Everyone rallied around four people that were very well known in sports, and it was just were all sitting there watching it.
And those people that have never watched report like, I mean, I want Oh, I wanted to watch because it was different. It was cool.
They might people love you, heard nothing to see them in Iraq.
And it was really awesome to see that.
And, yeah, just going forward, if you like that will be could do something like that.
Yeah, I mean, how hard would have been like a month in for four of the best home run hitters.
Come together and go Teoh around? Yeah, No.
Like like a pre season home run derby or something like that to get everybody excited.
Why do you gotta wait till halfway through the season and for only playing 60 games? I totally agree with you.
Absolutely like, And that's where I think baseball is gonna learn this season, one way or the other.
Unfortunately, right now it's you're not looking great, But, you know, we're starting a baseball.
I'm hoping that this the way that they're doing it's gonna really hold on.
Players aren't getting sick and stuff.
I mean, you see all these guys tweeting openly to the league, like, Yo, I got like, a pregnant wife and a family, and you're not going to do a bubble like you're not gonna give me assurance.
Like, why would I go out there and risk it? And if you're like a bench player, maybe where you're not guaranteed a spot but your mike trout and you have your wife delivering a baby at some point during this and you're gonna go risk this half ass plan that baseball put together.
If I'm him, I'm the best player in the league, if not top three.
Whatever debate you want to give Lime locked into a lifetime contract.
The my job security is so out of the roof, it's insane.
I'm not coming back for this 60 games season and putting my wife at risk like that.
I'm not coming back at all.
But the endia, I was like, Okay, sounds good.
Like you have a pregnant wife.
Here's the protocols here we're gonna do like if you don't want to comments, fine.
We understand we're gonna, you know, relieve alleviate your roster spot.
But if not, here's the plans.
Here's the protocols.
Here's all this stuff.
Here's the bubble and, ah, lot of players.
Some players were like, You know what? I'm going to make this decision for myself.
You got to respect that.
And there's other players that were like I originally wasn't gonna come.
But because of all the work that the N B a did and how transparent they have been with this program, I'm gonna trust it.
I mean, if I'm going to go do my career, this is the best I could do right now.
And they're gonna do their best to keep me safe.
And now we see it.
There's no Corona virus test in a bubble.
I mean, the whole world, you know, this explosion is going on around you and then you got the MBE with little We are sealed and I just protected now and it seems so like, Oh, it's such a superhero kind of movie or something.
But, I mean, it's kind of what we have to dio and UFC, Dina.
Why? It's kind of a jackass, but like he's been delivering on these cards, you know, some people have been getting tested positive.
He sends him off goodbye.
You know what I mean? Like how it works.
I You know, I first I was like, You're gonna put humans at Ritz can do this, But I mean, this is our new way of life.
We have to figure out a way to move forward or at least try things.
And if it doesn't work, we have to be able to be honest and say it didn't work.
Hold the plug and go and find another idea.
Because if we just try to stay ignorant and like No, no, we haven't seen it all the way through.
You got people's lives at stake, so I feel like we got to be willing to be like, all right.
It was a good idea in theory, but like it just didn't work out.
Let's pull the plug real quick and, like, hit the drawing board, even if that means we pull sports again for two weeks or something.
I think we're all room to take that ding to make sure that if we're putting grown people who are just as much of humans as we are watching from the TV or than playing, if they're not, if they're not at complete safety and they're feeling any kind of risk, then why even put him out there? You know, that's how I see it.
But I do want spirits more than anything in the world.
Of course, I think this whole thing has really put the NFL in the hot seat because they haven't fully announced their plan like they've said a lot things that they're thinking about doing.
But it was until recently they were saying no fans a day.
Today they said masks.
I was like, Wait, what do you mean? There has been mass.
Of course, As soon as you get to let people are without I was I read like, between allowed and yeah, I think my aunt goes like, Oh, so that means like, they can't be drinking beer.
And I'm like, I don't I don't even think like this is like, Yeah, there.
I'm just like, yeah, I guess old and Disney was like, You can't walk around with food and drink And I'm like, Why were even allowing that in the first? Like its simple things, I was just like, Why I like this music.
Give it like you're just shouldn't be doing this in the first place. Absolutely.
It's like Please let me go.
Please let me go.
And then when you're there, it's like I'll do anything to go.
And then when you get there, they're like, Wait, I can't have like, a Dodger dog and a beer and like, do this and it's like, do just be lucky to be here.
Where you completing like stop like we're in a pandemic row? Yes, that's all we guys got for you guys tonight.
