official legalized here.
Yeah, I think we're there.
So we'll go ahead.
I have. I'm sitting here on one.
I'm going to go ahead and assume we have gotten in life, and I'll do a little bit of a background check here if I can.
But in the meantime, it's a welcoming you back into SportsCastr news, talking all things.
And yet with myself, Adam are Brecht's over their courses.
How are you, sir? I'm good, Good.
Freshly into the afternoon now, five minutes into the afternoon.
You know, now I can say I've been so busy because I'm now in the work clock.
Mondays have taken a little bit of a gentle roll for May.
I feel like I'm like off the weekend.
I'll just let you see.
Let's see what's happening Monday morning.
No reason to pressure myself and just see what comes across the wire. Yeah, exactly.
Feels like your man.
So So as we did yesterday, along with Matt Brooks, we've been started ramping up for the NBA's turn.
Won't belabor that point.
Everyone knows it's coming, but when you look around, try to think about some different teams and ones that maybe could surprise us in these Ah restart over eight games.
And, of course, the playoff run.
The Miami Heat do pop up whether or not it was a concern per se from the public perspective.
Officially well and looking 100% down in the bubble.
So that was a positive sign for them.
Obviously having a strong rookie season dealt with an ankle injury there over the course of it.
So you just wonder what the layoff, How is he going to be feeling? But he looks all systems go it it really started it.
Pull back for a second because it feels like a long time ago that Jimmy Butler was in Minnesota.
The young players did not like him. He was.
And there's some off the court things that we want.
We want to get into that, apparently have come out since then, but just just butted heads.
He had a certain mentality, a certain approach to the game.
At the time, my perception of him was boy, here's a player that maybe doesn't fully understand where he is in the hierarchy of the league, Maybe want certain accolades put on him and also seems to be a bit of, ah, disruption in the malcontent in a locker room.
He goes to Philly for a short stand, becomes an immediate veteran presence.
Arguably, is the most important P is for them in that playoff. Runk.
They were dealing with injuries and then finally lands himself in Miami for at the gate.
How much is your perception changed of Jimmy Butler over the last couple of seasons? Well, I mean, I've always had a lot of respect for Jimmy Buckets, his game, his personality, even some of his online antics.
When that whole thing happened with the Timberwolves, I knew that he was just being hard on those guys.
I knew that they were soft talking about Andrew Wiggins, Karl Anthony towns like they were young bull poison.
Uh, he was being a veteran, and I also knew that he was coming from Chicago, where he was around guys like De Rosa, Taj gifts and Tom Thibodeau.
So it was a little bit more like hard nosed style that he came into the league with, and ah, I really never thought he was a villain.
You know, when all that stuff came out about practice, that one.
He was trying to get out of there, too.
He was trying to motivate those guys on as a Nets fan.
Ah, a couple times I you know, I've watched games where he hit daggers on us from Minnesota.
Then he did it last year with Philly.
I thought they were gonna actually really figure it out with Philly last year and they were close.
You know, if that ball doesn't drop that Kawai shot in Toronto deep Sixers, Maybe we're looking at the Sixers is going on to the finals and be in the champs Now.
I'm not a six years ago.
I don't think there's any universal that really happens.
But you can have that point.
And with Jimmy buckets, I just think he's a solid N b.
A guy, an All star.
He's a hard working guy.
Um, my opinion of him hasn't changed.
I've always kind of respected his game and where he's from and what kind of person he is.
Well, I remember, too, because I will.
I think I do acknowledge that it involved for me a little bit just because there was a time when we were throwing out names on the nets podcast of, like, guys that would You wanna have him on the Nets team? Potentially.
This is going back when you didn't have Katie higher.
Just like, what are these players you wanna have? And the idea of a Jimmy Butler was like, Boy, I don't know.
And this was right over the stretch where then the Nets went play this play, the 70 Sixers Butler was there and everything that went on with that scene.
Maybe maybe I sold myself on wanting Jimbo.
So it seems like you were probably always on that train and your point about young players and a veteran's mentality.
It's something that clashes.
And by the way, Minnesota has kind of had this reputation, right.
This is what they've been is like this soft team with a lot of talent that can't figure it out.
And then a guy who's been there comes and goes.
This is what it takes, and they kind of go, I don't know.
Is that really what I really want to be really want to be that dedicated, maybe, to figuring this out So it's like I think Minnesota ended up looking far worse in that situation than Jimmy Butler doesn't back.
And he looks like I said He looks glowing on the back end.
Minnesota just looks like a team in an organization that had to reboot and figure some things out around Cat and not to cut you off.
Before all that, we hadn't seen this Jordan last dance, Doc.
And I mean, we knew a little bit about how hard Jordan was on his teammates and how hard he went in practice.
But then, when you see the last dance stock, he's calling them all types of names, really getting after them, right? So it Kat makes Jimmy Butler look like he's in that ill and that even with Kobe, you know, we've seen videos and clips.
The Lakers practice with Kobe going hard at his teammates and picking these guys up.
And there's a contrast.
Lesbian Nets fans we hear about Kyrie.
Kyrie Khan has taken some of that mentality and, you know, when he came came out this season to say it's glaring.
We need some, you know, we need two more pieces.
That was kind of the mom of mentality that Jordan leadership that we've seen.
And I think Jimmy Buckets was trying to go in that route when you know he came at those boys in Minnesota.
So ultimately, he ends up by way of Philadelphia, landing in Miami at the time.
And this is just, like, fascinating for me when I start to look at it is, this is what Miami does right under Pat Riley, you have one of the longest tenured coach coaches and Erik Spoelstra.
They make this move billions of getting Josh Richardson as well as a future of first round pick, and obviously that's not insignificant.
But I just like quickly on the surface, went into those stats on both these guys.
Josh Richardson, obviously a younger player, so you know, more career ahead of him.
But his first season in Philly saw him plays 31 minutes.
Basically, ah, hit the free field goal percentages right, their lowest three point percentage change of his career, though free throws also took a bit of a dips.
Some stat lines just not really a banner year for him where, conversely, for Jimmy Butler going into this massive contract with Miami actually shifted himself a little bit.
So here's a guy that normally you would see shooting a higher Ah higher volume of three pointers and also knocking them down a little bit better.
That number dropped off significantly in Miami, only 25% from deep.
But he's Onley, taking a basically two per game, lowest he's ever taken his career knocks down his free throws like he always does.
The other big numbers from that really jumped out was she actually picked up 6.
5 rebounds per game, highest of his career.
Combined that with his assist numbers that jumped up Teoh just over six for a career guy that has about four.
So this is something that feels indicative of the Miami Heat of being able to turn around and say, OK, we're gonna pivots slightly here.
We're gonna bring in.
So we're going over the white side, by the way, in the process of player that couldn't figure it out, I figured out my Miami makes him room for Bam out a bio, but they pivot to this player, and then when Butler comes in, maybe to your point, he goes OK, I see the pieces around me.
I know exactly how I can be the best version of myself here and also make these guys better, too.
And just your quick thoughts on Miami is as a whole and how Butler has so beautifully fifth it in there immediately.
And people kind of looked Ah looked at Jimmy Sideways when they saw that was his landing spot.
That was his destinations like Miami, who was in Miami like Jimmy Buckets.
Isn't trying to go team up.
No, but he's trying to go to one Miami location, right? Great place to be literally all the time party in the city where the heat is on and they have the hose home.
They have those young guys around him and different players and Eric Celestron.
Pat Riley like it's a good basketball situation.
They have some history there.
American Airlines Arena is electric.
I've seen a game down there, and I was like, I get it.
I understand why you know this culture around the Miami heat is what it is, and it's a tractor, please, for ah, you know, players to come and look at what they've done this year they were.
They played great at home.
I don't know, off the top of my head.
But there was a while where they weren't losing games at home.
They were winning every single home game.
They had a legit home court advantage.
And, ah, guys like Hero came along.
Um, they made some moves, and I like where they're headed and even going into Orlando, you know, if their their mentality is right, which I think it is, there will be away from home, but not too far from home.
They're still in Florida, you know, the Miami Heat could win some games, could surprise some teams.
And, uh, I'm looking forward to seeing Jimmy Buckets.
And these guys, like, you know, complete their season being the fourth overall team in the East.
Oh, there it is.
All right, Coming in. Hot.
Not that I don't like Angelique.
Matt Brooks comes in yet the the pressure is on.
Then you better have Oh, listen to you and the double down and do it across the board.
Why not? So we were just about to pivot our attention kind into the playoffs.
Now with the Miami Heat.
But if you want to put out your quick thoughts on I was, I had asked Keys where Jimmy Butler was on the Minnesota Timberwolves toe, where he is now in the Miami Heat.
Just the for me.
It was a little bit of my perception of him changed a lot, but just the idea of how nicely he fit into Miami and so quickly after what felt like he just said it.
An interesting choice of landing spot.
If you were Jimmy Butler not looking to team up on maybe one of the primed rosters around the league and maybe seeing something in Miami's roster that other people didn't necessarily.
I mean, I think it's a fun argument for Miami, extra little bit between him and bam like who whose team it is, who has that imprint like who? It feels like a team of a little bit more, cause they are like this.
You know, I am so fun to watch switches and he runs around and just moves well.
But a they are like, you know, he's the perfect and, you know, this is of course, like I I don't know if I would have thought this when he was a free agent.
I definitely wasn't thinking this because they didn't have any money.
They don't that they had no cap.
So I had to do this ridiculous trade that I mean, you know, he I'm sure he kind of organized because he didn't want to go back to Philly.
He Ah, yeah, he's the perfect guy for them.
Um, this year is kind of brought back Why? I live.
You know, I love Jimmy Butler so much.
I mean, he showed that a lot in the playoffs last year against the Raptors.
You know, Kawai outdueled him, but he really put up a strong fight this year is doing more of the same.
Just a great ice player plays pretty well within the pick and roll.
Um, and just a hard nose defender.
I think he's been a step better defensively this year.
So, um, I yeah, the playmaking is not up to.
I mean, they have all these young guys and they're all playing really well.
I'm not saying it's because I am.
I think it's because there will coach.
But, you know, he's definitely moving it well and being a big part of that and letting other guys shine.
So I'm a huge Jimmy Butler fan.
Like, I think I've said that.
I don't know if I've actually mentioned that on here, but I definitely one of my big things is being a Jimmy Butler guy.
Um, he was actually before I even knew that Katie and Kyrie why I had a feeling Kyrie was coming.
But, uh, I was right if I wanted Jimmy Butler more than any free agent last summer.
You know, this is what we're just saying before about, um, my thinking on him from when he was in Minnesota.
And then it's time and Philly changed my perception of if, in free agency, the Nets want to pursue me.
All the sudden, I looked at him in a very different light where it was boarded.
The idea of that against the destruction factor, and I it doesn't really fall on him.
And Keith articulated perfectly just about veterans mentality and being on top of guys to get better like this is how you win.
This has become better players, and Minnesota has struggled to find that rhythm.
So it opened me up to him though that idea of a Jimmy Butler on the Nets roster than seeing what else could come from around that what was intriguing at the very least.
And then you said prior to head saying, Hey, we could also land Katya Kyrie if you want.
Well, I will say, like with Minnesota and Philly like that.
I mean, he's been probably a little too outspoken about it, but he you know, you have the practice where he plays with the third string areas, and basically every name under the sun calls every soft that team is.
They play kind of soft.
I don't know what the point, right.
They spring seed Before he went down with injury that year, you went down.
I think, in February was out for two months.
I remember the injury was and they drop all the way to the eight, and they looked completely lifeless without him, Um and then, of course, they get killed in the playoffs by Houston, who I think could have won it that year.
And then the next year, you know, this Philly team they played pretty well, but you hear all these things afterwards I mean, it wasn't just him talking about.
This was JJ Red**** of all people, who is like, you know, I mean, he's got a little bit of, ah, this as he gets older and older, I think he's got He's showing a side of, like, a little bit of snarkiness here and there.
But, um, he and Jimmy Butler yeah, he Jimmy Butler did this podcast and they were talking about how the culture there is, like, off.
And there's no expectations.
Got you know, that they basically insinuated that Simmons and Embiid got to do what they want, and that's how that works there. And that's the operation.
So the cross, you know, this is the personal process.
Oh, and by the way, oh, well, it's not.
It's not too similar right now.
Philly has had more success, certainly, but it's the same thing of young players.
That and we've had this really a theme that we've touched on a number of times, right, whether it's with Donovan Mitchell, just how the style of his game is developing with young players like indeed, and Simmons where they go, you're our crown jewels like don't worry about it.
This is your team.
You have nothing to worry about from day one, even though you haven't won anything yet.
And if you don't at least set some level of all, our expectation is very easy for those guys to run it.
And then when you bring in a veteran, you go.
He says, Hey, this is what we should do in there like a guy that's not enough, They told.
They told me, Brett Browns are our coach and we just kind of do whatever we feel like on a game by game basis.
Now, do you know, placing? That is when you look.
Yeah, they had. Sorry.
No, I'm just saying it's kind of crazy.
Do you really think they have Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons like that's That's Flex three top 25 guys.
They know anything before you got on.
I said that like, I don't believe in this universe.
But in some universe, the Sixers beat the Raptors and go on and win the final up last year with that team.
If that shot doesn't dry, I think there's some universe where I know there There's Philly Sixers fans saying Man, that was our year to get it done well.
And what's and what's the ah, what's the sellers or buyers? Remorse for the 70 Sixers on Tobias Harris.
You know, I know, I know Butler didn't want to be there, but it's like if you were picking who you were going to hitch your wagon zoo.
That Tobias Harris cart is looking far more bear than maybe people deal perceived it, especially that company player.
How about the Al Horford one? That Lindsay hurt me? War I Andrew there literally around hoping that that amnesty clause comes back because he's gonna be gone first thing.
Yeah, I know for sure.
Anyway, so, yeah, I know it is so easy to derail around these things.
Okay, so now we look at the heat as their constituted.
They're coming into this restart.
Um, like we kind of like we took a look at their yesterday out in the Western Conference.
They're sitting there, the four seed.
Really, the fact that the pacers behind them have been decimated by injuries and or pulled out some players there.
So it feels that the Pacers are destined to be the team that is really just a filler over the course of the game restart and the heat will play them twice.
I don't see because also, when you look at it, the Celtics, I believe, have what a couple games in hand over them.
So moving their record and challenging for the three seed is not gonna be an option, either.
Eat are pretty much dead locked in there at the four.
Do we anticipate seeing the 70 Sixers rise up? And it will be that 45 matchup in the first round between between teams with some level of roster history there.
The who knows of them, who knows they are the biggest wildcard knows what Embiid and Simmons they're gonna look like.
And if one of them shows up in the other president, if they both show up together, like if they could do it for multiple games, Um, it's gonna be interesting.
So then let's right.
So then let's So let's go.
Let's go to step further, right, because you, because you're probably right.
70 Sixers are such a enigma.
If you look at it now, then and say the Pacers maybe hold onto the five seed, that's probably the best case that you can make that.
I don't see the Nets or the Magic rising up, ineffective, flirty over the gap.
Assume it's the Pacers.
Whoever is and the Heat come out of that first round, then you're talking about a second round matchup, most likely against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Does this roster does Miami's roster present challenges for Milwaukee? A team that at the very least has to, as people say, prove something proved that they could be dominant in the playoffs and get to a five finals? Is there any issue are concerned they will go over to you first Teeth.
Do you see any problems for Milwaukee with this Miami roster? No, I think they I think that really Miami, Honestly, I don't I don't think I think they would love to see that matchup.
I think you're honest. Will be smiling from ear to ear.
They would love to see the heat in that situation.
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna also agree.
I So I had a guy on my other channel books film room.
Um, and we talked about, like, potential playoff matchups, and I thought it was like I was like, Is there like a little options that Miami could do it because they do have ****, who was really good against your honest this year.
And, like the matchup steps gonna show that.
And, ah, he was not even a little bit working.
He's a lifelong fan of them.
He was just like I e.
I think it's just like they have a lot of young pieces and there, I don't know, firepower wise, like I don't know like that.
Buck's defense is like, historically great, like they're so unbelievably good.
And if you could just stick.
I mean, if you can really stick any of West Matthews, Middleton and Johannes on Jimmy, question becomes like, Okay, it's Kendrick Nunn, the next guy up.
Is it Dhiraj IQ? Is it like a I don't know, hero, Right? Who's gonna be ableto fill that void in any way, shape or form? Who's gonna be able to rise up and give him 20 points, 25 points in that situation you have against the bucks? It feels like that.
Shut down, butler.
Then say anybody else anybody else if you can do it, if you can do it more often than not had.
So I am really not even that, cause I think I'm trying to think of like who that is.
Just some teams that always have that one guy.
I'll say like it's like the Wizards when Bradley deal is going off all season long, right? But in a lot of these things, gay Crowder's Jae Crowder's the man.
When you look at your like mobile, it's like if you're a good team, you go.
Okay, Bill, take 50.
You know, whatever you want, whatever you want to get, because you can't score 110 against us, and somebody else is gonna have to fill that in.
And when you're a good a great team like Milwaukee, you look at Miami, go okay, Who else? Who else do you have that's going to complement this? Yeah.
I also will say secretly, the heat are like not that great defensively.
They're, like, closer to the middle of the league, the top, like you think it's like they owe the heat culture all this, but they're really not like, okay, they have some like I mean, the thing is is like they have two great defenders and then a lot of like, you know, unproven or just not Very good defenders.
Yeah, so it's weird mix.
It will be interesting to see if they at least challenge Milwaukee for a game or two of the course that serious, I tend to lean in the same direction.
I just don't I don't know.
It's a foregone conclusion, right? Like if Milwaukee is not in the Eastern Conference finals and looking at the Finals, it just feels like something would have had to have gone horribly wrong for them over the restart in the playoffs, Um, someone on their team would have had to gotten hurt or contracted the Corona virus.
They are set up to run right through this.
Let's just get out of here on this.
When you look at Miami overall, therefore, see, we talk about Philly being a disaster in some way should perform.
This year. They phone a little bit lower.
Indiana's gonna seem like they're going the wrong way.
Ah, Boston's in a good position.
Toronto's probably set to slip a little bit.
Maybe this the other team is obviously Brooklyn Next year.
That's going to be in the upper echelon. When they're healthy.
Where does Miami slot in next year.
Are they a four? A 45 seat is as high as they can rise next season.
Are they behind Boston, Brooklyn, Milwaukee and then maybe Toronto, depending on how they shake out.
I think think it all depends on the growth of Pam, and that's pretty like it's he can just if he starts shooting like that's that takes him like that next level.
I think he's like a top 35 inch guy right now.
But if he's if he can start, really, I mean, he's a good good at what he does offensively.
But if he starts stretching the floor a little bit, um, they become increasingly interesting.
I have a feeling able to do it cause he's just such a hard worker like I just wouldn't be surprised if you know he's a freaky so at it.
If he consciously makes the decision to work on his game that way and become that kind of player, then I think they could take it another step.
But like Adam was saying with the Nets sliding in there like, I think the heater going to still be middle of the pack, maybe even take a step back.
Even be like closer, like a five or 60 next year.
A lesson for a for a team that going back 20809 has only one season below 500.
That's the kind of franchise model that I would sign up for if I'm basically almost any team around the league.
Long 10 year coach.
Too much at the top with Keith with pollster.
They're obviously Pat Riley has the pedigree.
So there's something to like about the fact that they have the ability to remold pieces and find some level of sustained success, right? Yeah.
Can I just say they all alone? And they're they're what they're doing right now is like keeping a playoff team and then there, very quietly, going to try to clean their books for 2021.
When there's a free agents, they want that you want that not you want to be honest chatter.
You want that you honest to Miami chatter? Is that what your office? I'm just saying if there's a lot of their there's these stories about them going after all the depo like, I think they're gonna be really shooting for 2021 trying to get somebody, but I don't know what Jimmy looks like that, but there's there's there's value in that 02 right, being able to retool without totally decimating your roster, still being a reasonably and in the East, right? Where to be in the West Pops? Possibly.
But just being a reasonable team in the Eastern Conference has tremendous value.
Be a middle of the road team for handful years.
Spike the free agency market.
Grab yourself Chris Bosh and LeBron James when a couple titles reboot head thing grabbed Jimmy Butler.
You know and see if you can and allow as key, said the top.
Let the appeal of Miami Beach.
Do you work for you with these free agents? Why I try to push the envelope on whether or not Milwaukee is a destination hub for a superstar like all the Depo.
Or or be honest, if you want to go that route, bad news is Miami's not gonna have a lot of success this playoffs.
