T.
00:02:44
Right, But Theo, welcome the Carroll family who's here? Just a wonderful family of Thibodeau and all the extended family who came in for a good story.
00:02:56
And I want to think this Lindsay McCaskill for filling in in a very difficult time, its inner mathematics director and cherry research to find a new athletic director.
00:03:07
She did an absolutely remarkable job in a very different boats, cir***stances to keep the athletic department intact while running.
00:03:17
It started with this position.
00:03:19
She left only one thing unfinished.
00:03:21
Leads you know what that is? That net I've been asking her to replace that, uh, I've said it before.
00:03:32
Tomorrow on athletic director doesn't win a single game, the single most important characteristic in an athletic director.
00:03:40
In my opinion, it judge with student athletes with Fan with Alum nine with supporters and with coaches.
00:03:50
It's 80 job to find the right coaches and provide those coaches with the right support for student athletes to be successful on the field.
00:03:59
On the court in the class.
00:04:01
Jonathan Farrar, J T.
00:04:03
As we know, is that first he combined superior judgment with a history of success on the field, off the field and an unmatched passion critical state universe.
00:04:15
Nichols Athletics is in a great position in the last three years are programs that one Southland championships take the playoffs in the classroom? Our student athletes just posted their highest or bass ***ulative GDP a.
00:04:32
Into his history to get sales if rising year over year and last summer we announced more just nation in school history to renovate expand the more complex.
00:04:45
From the outset of this search, J, he separated himself as a person who could continue this momentum he has a plan to move and let it further up the echelon and collegiate sports.
00:04:56
And he is a love horn commitment to this university to see that plan through.
00:05:01
As president of the first Down club in the huddle up club and an active member of Colonel Athletic Station, someone asked, Who's gonna volunteer now? J.
00:05:13
T.
00:05:14
Has been a fundraising Jim Nicholson athletic more than our players are excited.
00:05:20
Our coaches are excited.
00:05:22
Our community is excited, Received from the crowd here.
00:05:26

00:06:11
Thank you all for for giving me this opportunity.
00:06:15
I'm overcome with emotion.
00:06:16
So just in case you don't know I'm a big cry baby.
00:06:20
So let's get that out the way.
00:06:21
First, um, I stand here today as the athletic director of Nickel State University to stand here today as an honor and a privilege.
00:06:32
There's a lot of history about today, but looking ahead today is all about continuing to climb of our athletic department.
00:06:43
This job is so special to me because I left Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 18 years old and was blessed enough to be adopted by this community as one of their own.
00:06:53
Not often do you attended university that makes a stamp on your life, like Nickel State University has done to me and my family to be able to give back and work for a place that holds such a special place in your heart and that you have so much passion for his extraordinary.
00:07:12
I say this a lot about Nickel State.
00:07:14
It's a one of a kind place.
00:07:16
It's unique.
00:07:18
It's a diamond, the in polished.
00:07:21
The people in this department are hard workers and quit student athletes first.
00:07:26
I am proud to be a part of this department that in steals the importance of academic accidents.
00:07:34
Everything I've been through in my life has led me to this point.
00:07:45
I have never taken the easy road to get here.
00:07:48
I was a young married man with a child in college football and had and had to support him.
00:07:55
And before I go on any further, I would like to thank them.
00:07:58
Thank you to my wife, tearing for always standing beside me and believe in me.
00:08:05
I want to also take my original carnal Caitlin, my son in law, Darius.
00:08:10
My daughter's making a McKenna and last but not least, my caboose, Jacob.
00:08:17
Thank you to my parents for being leaders and for being the best parents I can ask for today.
00:08:25
A special It's the 57th wedding anniversary is why I picked today to stand before US athletic director.
00:08:40
So Happy anniversary, Mom and Dad.
00:08:42
Thank you.
00:08:50
I also want to thank my in laws siblings, nieces and nephews and the rest of my family for such tacit support.
00:08:59
I love you.
00:09:01
There's so many people have had a hand in helping me get to where I am today.
00:09:05
I am so thankful for each of them.
00:09:08
But there's a special things I want to say, a special thanks to Brandy pontiff for your leadership and continue support as a former boss and as a friend, I hope to lead as you have done so successfully.
00:09:23
I am for upper grateful for you taking a chance on this little football coach pharmaceutical salesman because of my group.
00:09:31
Duke Rub, my blue scrubs turned doctor and now an athletic director.
00:09:37
I appreciate you more than you know.
00:09:41
So, as I said before, I've been around here quite some time as a player than a coach fundraiser, but always a true kernel fan.
00:09:50
My daughter Megan play soccer and nephew Tyreese plays basketball.
00:09:55
So first hand.
00:09:57
No, the importance of alumni compute and community support.
00:10:02
There's so many great players and coaches who have come through Thibodeau and have left their mark on the program, and it's time to get them back, involved in department as a whole and reach further.
00:10:12
Just Thibodeau and Homa.
00:10:15
We have to spread out reach, get past five parish area.
00:10:19
We have a lot of along that came to this great university.
00:10:24
Now is the time for us to continue to climb and keep propelling out programs forward.
00:10:28
I am never content, and I don't take no as a final answer.
00:10:33
I asked my mom and dad, You hear me say the climb often because it's what we would do Matt Rome left a great thing when he left us on the path of you.
00:10:45
So when I talk about the time, I need you to understand this the CIA for championships on and off the field, the L is how we will lead with best interest of student athletes and all programs.
00:11:00
The I stands for integrity, and I'll let that speak for itself.
00:11:04
The atmosphere, movement, the growing, the growing the department financially throughout brand and advance opportunities.
00:11:11
By being creative in our unique landscape, the beast of 1000 bring an impressive excitement to all programs through every If we cheat, this is our vision throughout the whole department.
00:11:26
Then we'll be one team with one goal.
00:11:29
Making strive for the future off all our student athletes.
00:11:33
The process starts without department but goes far beyond the process.
00:11:39
Is about people and relationships cultivated relationships.
00:11:44
It's something that we have to do and continue to do.
00:11:47
And it's what brings that all communities so close together to the student athletes.
00:11:53
It starts with you.
00:11:55
We have to build a foundation of support off one another because each of you share a uniqueness that nobody else understands.
00:12:02
A student to the athletic department.
00:12:06
All coaches.
00:12:08
I will build a report in a relationship with each of you.
00:12:11
I would never actually do anything that I'm not willing to do myself.
00:12:15
I will make a commitment to give you every opportunity to be successful.
00:12:19
But again, remember, this is not JT's athletic department.
00:12:23
It's a collective effort, and we have a brand to represent, which is Nickel State University.
00:12:30
Finally, to the community and alumni.
00:12:33
I am so grateful for the support, but I can't do this alone.
00:12:37
I will be a great representative of our university, and I will reach out to you for support of our student athletes and programs to give them the experience of a lifetime.
00:12:48
As I paraphrase President John F.
00:12:50
Kennedy, everybody thought this was so funny.
00:12:53
Ask not what Nichols after that you can do for you, but what you can do for Nick with athletics? I have said it before now, said again one team.
00:13:04
One goal is the only way we will continue to climb together.
00:13:09
I don't know if everyone has Twitter.
00:13:10
You all know I'm late on all the social media stuff, but I think I'm pretty cool that you have Twitter now and on last Friday I asked that everybody joined the c A.
00:13:22
I was serious.
00:13:23
So please join the C A support all athletics.
00:13:28
This is our brand.
00:13:30
This is our future.
00:13:32
We will continue to climb and we'll be reaching out to you.
00:13:35
And again Thank you for believing in me and making my dream come true.
00:13:39
I can't wait to start.
00:13:41
July 6 is my official start date.
00:13:43
But if you know me, I started last week.
00:13:47
Thanks for being here today.
00:13:49
This means the world to me and go Cardinals.
00:14:05
Yeah, thank you all for joining us today.
00:14:20
So welcome your friend and mine to the team, though I know you never really left the team because I can think of no one who exudes Colonel Pride more than JC.
00:14:32
I know he's gonna lead Colonel Athletics to even greater heights, and we've already achieved Thank you and go kernels.
00:14:48
I'm gonna say this about Jonathan Terror.
00:14:51
Look this up.
00:14:52
This athletic director, right? Yeah.
00:14:54
I think he's gonna leave Liquid State to the forefront because Nicholls State absolutely on sets the approved list athletic director left for ah, bigger, better things I think to tell you right now, Nichols is absolutely going to be on the map no matter what.
00:15:16
If they if they win in football, they went in baseball that went in basketball.
00:15:22
No matter what, I think he's gonna lead this program to new heights, and, um and I'm and lobby.
00:15:31
So once again, this is some from yesterday They did, um, announced that Jonathan Toe will be the new athletic director at Nickel State University, which is located in typical Louisiana, that it's across the bayou for me here.
00:15:49
I'm in Wallens That's across the bayou in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
00:15:53
Also, I think he's gonna, um, reach out to the New Orleans area as well, because the wallets area look, they're going to get some players from the New Orleans area.
00:16:06
So that's one thing in common with Nickel State program.
00:16:11
So once again, we will go with some new set line stakes for joining us here on sports talk with Carolyn Mayer Show here on this Tuesday.
00:16:19
So let's move along to some sports headlines.
00:16:22
I'm gonna go.
00:16:25
I'm gonna begin with interviews today when I have some interviews on playing.
00:16:30
I'm gonna go to question City sports.
00:16:32
We're gonna have some interviews playing.
00:16:36
We're gonna have Preston guy playing Preston.
00:16:40
Guy talks to all access.
00:16:42
And also East Saint John Coach Brandon Brown s.
00:16:47
So we will also have new set lines as well, So well, begin with pressing guy talking about l s u football.
00:16:59
It was to come for the L S U football season here in 2000 and 20.
00:17:04
So let's begin playing that clip much to discuss.
00:17:08
And we do so with a guy.
00:17:09
Doesn't outstanding job photography dot com.
00:17:11
Of course, it find work for the Advocate previously and continues to do an excellent job in covering L S U.
00:17:17
It's great to have Preston guy with us rest and listen.
00:17:19
Thanks for joining us.
00:17:21
I hope you're well in these unusual times.
00:17:24
Yeah. Thanks for having me again.
00:17:26
Been a while since I've been on this show.
00:17:28
You check in for, Ah, the high school football games for joint Tiger bait.
00:17:33
You bait and it's great to have you.
00:17:35
And we appreciate that we're still doing that, by the way.
00:17:37
So we must be a no, no, no.
00:17:39
26 years.
00:17:40
There's something like that, but it's been a pleasure in love, High school sports love what you do always have and great to have you with us tonight.
00:17:47
And I guess first and foremost, I have to start before we get the football or anything else.
00:17:52
I have to start with the the latest shot across the bomb from ****ie V today about potential notice of allegations regarding L S U in Arizona and of course, saying a source saying that will be notified of violations Level one violations by the end of July, early August 1st of all, he may be right.
00:18:14
You may not be, I don't know, but the story it puzzles me as to why it is dragged on so long and has taken so long to get to this stage.
00:18:25
And it's just like, I don't know if you're delaying an execution or if you're just keeping a program in limbo and preventing that program from reaching its zenith.
00:18:38
Where does the truth lie with this? And and what about by talent? Once again, Yeah, firing away at L s U in Arizona, which he seemingly loves to do.
00:18:48
Well, you know what's funny is we actually wrote on the site, uh, earlier today.
00:18:54
Actually, before this was gonna come out, you know, l issue was squarely in the mix for five star center movement.
00:19:01
Moussa piece, right? Last time he put out the tweet, he was supposed to commit to L A shoe that day, and then ****ie be puts out that tweeting.
00:19:12
And, of course, like any reasonable young man, he delayed his commitment, said, we'll see.
00:19:18
What's funny is today We were getting scuttlebutt that she was gonna be, uh, uh announcing his decision as early as tomorrow.
00:19:27
And as soon as we catch wind of that again ****ie v with another tweet bomb, you know, and, of course, ominous sources.
00:19:36
Uh, you know, and the timing of this is su****ious that that, you know, uh, it's not, you know, for those on the outside, you know, it seems like, OK, it all makes sense.
00:19:51
But for those in the know with, you know, it kind of smells a little bit of foul play, even though there's no, you know, you don't want to throw any accusation.
00:20:02
There is just one of those things where it looks like someone messing with them.
00:20:07
You know, we've got sources that tiger bait that are telling us that his forces are within the l A shoe program.
00:20:16
****ie be sourced.
00:20:17
Now, we're not gonna name names or anything like that, but it seems to me like they're you know, they're there.
00:20:24
Somebody who's putting out some news to him with some very convenient timing.
00:20:30
Wake of the staff changes that will wait his experience most recently.
00:20:36
I'm sorry.
00:20:37
What was that? I said, what do we make of the staff change that will wait? Has had on his staff? Most recently.
00:20:46
I won't be honest with you. We're ****ie.
00:20:48
Be a saying.
00:20:49
It's a bunch of bull****.
00:20:50
He just puts a lot of crap because you don't like l s u and stuff like that.
00:20:56
It's just a bunch of, um he said she said crap.
00:21:01
It's just something just opposed me.
00:21:03
What? What these people do, um, about l s U.
00:21:07
To be honest, what you look, if they would have got that guy Dad Hey, um, it would have been fine, but they put a lot of allegations saying else you did.
00:21:17
Guess did that.
00:21:18
Then stood that Now that's not That's not true.
00:21:24
Itwas true.
00:21:25
Then you have to have legitimate sources.
00:21:29
I know he has sources in the L issue athletic department, but, hey, that's just some he said.
00:21:35
She said Stop.
00:21:37
So once again, this is from a pressing guy.
00:21:40
Hey, was on one of 6.
00:21:42
1 all access that some with Ken Trey Hand that was on that when I was 61 So we'll play the interview.
00:21:53
You know, I haven't done too much research on mostly a football guy.
00:21:57
Um, you know, uh, it seems to me like, you know, he's done some really good things with his bath since he started there.
00:22:05
I know he promoted Ah Tasman Mitchell recently, and that guy has been really, really appreciated on the recruiting trail, I'll tell you that.
00:22:16
Busy with President guy of Tiger bait dot com.
00:22:18
Again, it's to 601061 to join in the conversation.
00:22:21
Now, with regard to football, we turn ourselves in that direction.
00:22:26
I've found it interesting all off season to read all the national stories, and I do, and I read all the pundits and my little predictions and everything else in the national discussion understandably has surrounded the lights of Clemson with everything they have coming back.
00:22:42
Although they lost a key receiver to injury.
00:22:45
Alabama, Of course, Georgia is always in.
00:22:48
That makes Ohio State unquestionably is right smack that mix.
00:22:52
And I'm maybe missing one in there as well.
00:22:56
But no, she was not mentioned in that.
00:22:58
And I know unless you lost 14 guys to the draft and they're still mentioned is maybe in the next year.
00:23:05
And I think that's fair.
00:23:06
And yet is there a lack of respect for this l s U program and what they have coming back since they're awesome.
00:23:13
Very good players, obviously coming back.
00:23:16
Yeah.
00:23:17
You know, I was looking at this.
00:23:18
You look at it from the perspective.
00:23:20
What? Ellis, you lost? Yeah.
00:23:22
Let me say something on the national aspect.
00:23:24
But the national pundits I know they're gonna say, Oh, Ella shoes are gonna all be in the playoffs this year and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:23:33
But the truth of the matter, if they don't know what the hell is going on down here in Louisiana with L s u, they don't know.
00:23:40
I were where the only ones here in the local area that knows what's going on.
00:23:45
We covered this team on a daily an interim basis.
00:23:49
So that's something right there.
00:23:51
Look on the next room either.
00:23:53
Doesn't know they just some go by.
00:23:55
What? We talk about what we say.
00:23:57
So, um, I'll be honest with you right now.
00:24:01
I think Ellis, you will make the playoffs this year. Absolutely.
00:24:06
Will make the playoffs.
00:24:08
The question is how I'm unsure if they go with two losses, they most likely will get in to the playoffs.
00:24:17
If that happened, if they have one loss, they most likely will get in.
00:24:21
So that's a That's a likely scenario right there.
00:24:24
That could happen for L S U football.
00:24:27
So once again, we'll play the pressing guy interview on Nash, one of 6.
00:24:34
1 icon what can trade hand.
00:24:37
He was on all Access, son yesterday, So we'll play that for you.
00:24:41
Um, I just want to come in and give my two cents.
00:24:52
What? Who you know, didn't really get to shine last year.
00:25:16
He was, so, you know, bearing behind five with dealer and Terry and David Price.
00:25:21
You know, uh, I can't have a bit of a break out season.
00:25:25
Not to mention ah, this recruiting class that coach oh, just brought in with outstanding.
00:25:31
Even with a few late Mrs there on signing day, guys clipped on the last day.
00:25:36
It still ends up being a top five class.
00:25:38
Got guys like the Y It's rigs out of California.
00:25:41
Look for him to be your Nickelback this year.
00:25:43
Five.
00:25:44
Saw guide ball hall, long range corner.
00:25:47
Uh, that's gonna be your future number one lock down corner.
00:25:50
Okay, He's gonna have to sit behind, court out, plot and sit behind desks.
00:25:56
Tingly Jr.
00:25:57
Who, of course, in my opinion, the best defender in the country.
00:26:00
Um, but I mean that that solid a TV.
00:26:03
And that's not even mentioning the highest rated tight end in the history of the recruiting rankings.
00:26:09
Uh, Eric Gilbert should come in and immediately plug and play, So I mean mild.
00:26:16
Brennan is gonna have cheese to the Maserati.
00:26:20
He's gonna have a defense that's ready toe play ball under Bo Pelini, who I personally thought was a bit of a grand slam higher.
00:26:30
And then, you know, you got you know, offensive line's gonna be piecework you're gonna have toe, you know, find the guys to step up, especially it.
00:26:38
Simmer, I think Coco went on the radio the other day, said his Harvard transfer.
00:26:43
Liam Shanahan is gonna be a big guide fill in that hole because, I mean, he got experience and he said he's been taking snaps of center and you know that that would.
00:26:54
That would open up a lot of opportunities if he could take that center role because there's not really a true center on roster any, uh, currently, who's ready to play so that that would be huge.
00:27:05
But honestly, keys this season are.
00:27:08
How good is mild? Brennan.
00:27:11
If he is half a good job Borough, then he'll be the second best school quarterback in school history.
00:27:19
And that would be enough to compete for a championship.
00:27:23
Personally, I'm looking at the team and I see it.
00:27:26
It's an unusual season, Chin.
00:27:28
I mean, it's so unusual.
00:27:31
Don't have spring practice.
00:27:32
You don't see those guys.
00:27:33
Got a lot of guys stepping into new roles there, haven't you? Do me.
00:27:37
So when I see the cell issue football team, I see this.
00:27:40
I see a lot of potential going on with this football team.
00:27:45
What, my Brennan on my friend.
00:27:46
It might be might be what we are, what we need for l s u today, uh, in 2020.
00:27:55
That's one thing working have tohave.
00:27:57
Look, it's stability.
00:27:59
That's one thing we have to have, and I think we're gonna have it this year.
00:28:04
I absolutely think we're gonna have it this year for, um L s u football.
00:28:09
So once again, I replayed the video pressing guy was on national icon 26.1.
00:28:17
I just wanted to come in and I'll give my two cents about L S u football beating player led practices.
00:28:27
It'll be interesting.
00:28:28
My my God, tell me it looks like a 10 into type team, you know? I mean, the only, you know, team that Ellis, you shouldn't be favored against his Alabama this year, so we'll see.
00:28:41
You would president guy of Tiger bait dot com.
00:28:43
I agree with you.
00:28:44
I think it's a very good team.
00:28:46
You have to superb receivers.
00:28:49
One is the best in the country as of last year, the other who's who come on strong and is healthy interest, Marshall and and yet there are other guys at receiver that could really make an impact I think Trey Palmer is a chance to be very good racing.
00:29:00
McMath's big guy.
00:29:01
That's already contributed.
00:29:03
There's a lot to like there you mentioned the running backs.
00:29:05
I like that offensive line.
00:29:07
That would be a question mark to me.
00:29:09
Linebacker would be interesting.
00:29:11
If not a question mark.
00:29:12
Defensive line should be pretty good.
00:29:14
Secondary should be awfully good.
00:29:15
And then the one element that really isn't talked about very much is just how good their kicking game years returning punter.
00:29:22
He's good returning kickoff, man Who's excellent returning place kicker who had a little bit of a slump toward the end last year.
00:29:29
But it's still good.
00:29:30
And, of course, a good return game.
00:29:32
So the third things of the game certainly looks to me like, L s u has an advantage in that aspect for against virtually everyone.
00:29:40
Oh, yeah, you know, I know that doesn't dimensional special teams.
00:29:44
The returner, you know, they bring back Derek Stingley.
00:29:47
Junior is gonna be returning kicks.
00:29:49
Uh, you know, and a lot of people are suspecting it very well might be trading.
00:29:54
Palmer, who returns kicks because you remember texting with Junior was very safe with ball Western but did not have explosive returns like he did in high school.
00:30:03
By the way, I got to cover in high school, and I've never seen a player now like that guy did.
00:30:11
But, um, anyway, so Trey Palmer was more of an explosive shifting guy where Jiaxing just has the raw Steve, you know? So So I think it return that you trade.
00:30:25
Palmer takes over that role, and I could see him being a little more explosive.
00:30:29
Cage.
00:30:30
Your work as a freshman had a very serviceable season last year, although that, like you, mentioned down the stretch, he he did have a few little little hiccups there.
00:30:40
But you know, he's a freshman.
00:30:42
We'll see if you could become more consistent if he in better.
00:30:45
He's one of the best kickers in the country.
00:30:47
I mean, really, it's definitely top 10 if you could pay any better at all.
00:30:51
And then, of course, back on road 30 year old hunter and Twitter personality.
00:30:58
If you don't follow back on Twitter, you gotta follow him. He's hilarious.
00:31:03
Um, hey was just steady is convened last year.
00:31:08
Uh, upon er, I think he's the best hunter.
00:31:11
Ellis.
00:31:12
She had Brad Wing um, and just consistent Great placement specialty.
00:31:16
She shouldn't have any reason to think it was.
00:31:18
She drops off on special teams next year.
00:31:22
Yep, I think it's a real strength of that football team and obviously something that's gonna help them significantly.
00:31:28
So I like whether I just think they're very good.
00:31:31
And I looked at the schedule and I'm like you.
00:31:33
I think it's a 10 win team.
00:31:35
Are better based on what we're looking at, You know, in the odd years we all know about the schedule.
00:31:41
This year, they we'll have to go to Auburn.
00:31:44
The whole Florida dynamic isn't play in Alabama's coming to them, and so it's really a trade off every year.
00:31:52
And the biggest aspect is the fact that their permanent opponents from the East are always the worst kind.
00:31:58
And it's really been difficult, of course, no Georgia.
00:32:00
But yeah, I know the whole Georgia dynamic is interesting, too, because here we are once again when national pundits loving Georgia and look, I understand George George is very good program.
00:32:10
They play in the national championship game recently, but L s U has beaten them the last few times they played them soundly.
00:32:16
And Georgia continues to get ahead of L s u on a consistent basis last year.
00:32:22
Year before this year.
00:32:24
That's once again the case, isn't it? And I think that's dumb.
00:32:30
What they doing with George? I think that's absolutely dumb with that doing pick and Georgia over L s u every time.
00:32:38
But maybe, um, Georgia in the arm.
00:32:43
Georgia.
00:32:44
Don't they beat those guys? I mean, so why in the hell that you're gonna pick, um, George over Ellis, you It doesn't make any sense to me and absolutely doesn't make any sense.
00:32:56
So, um Mike, that's my take on it.
00:32:59
With your take, you can push your comments Beautiful SportsCastr and twitch chat rooms.
00:33:05
If you think I'm right, um, Georgia shouldn't be picked.
00:33:11
L s u You can post your comments beardy on SportsCastr.
00:33:15
Like I said, once again, SportsCastr twist chat rooms.
00:33:19
Also, if you want to come in and video, chat with us and give you give us your opinion.
00:33:24
You can hear the stream yard lengths.
00:33:29
The lengths are India chat rooms, a SportsCastr and twitch.
00:33:34
So we will go back.
00:33:35
Teoh What press? The guys said about eso.
00:33:40
We'll play this again.
00:33:41
So let's go ahead and do that.
00:33:42
Yeah, you know, And I think what that ultimately comes down to is George.
00:33:48
People have a lot of faith in what Kirby Smart Don.
00:33:52
But, you know, I think they also now have states and Rouge alone on a level like that.
00:33:57
But, uh, you know, I think it comes down to that.
00:34:00
Transferred quarterback Jamie Newman.
00:34:01
He was one of the highest graded quarterback from the A C C last year.
00:34:05
And when you look at who's coming back at quarterback in the SEC, that's another reason I think I will shoes definitely in a position to win 10 11 games this year because you know it's going to be a down year for the SEC.
00:34:20
You just can't lose big names like Joe Borough to attack about Loa and then have Kyle Trash who was the backup quarterback to begin last.
00:34:29
Even the your face of the conference.
00:34:33
Let's think about that tile track is the face of the SEC conference.
00:34:38
So a lot of people think that Jamie Newman might be the best quarterback he might actually be better than Kyle Trash.
00:34:44
We just got to see how it gets in that system.
00:34:46
And we've seen a lot of quarterbacks who have immediately transferred school than had immediate effects.
00:34:51
A little bit of that job borrow last year.
00:34:54
But we've also seen guys like Russell Wilson pulled this off.
00:34:57
I mean, and guys, you know, I think there's a lot of faith in me compared to what else is out there.
00:35:04
And Miles burning is mostly unknown.
00:35:06
A commodity.
00:35:08
Uh, so I think that's why there seems to be a lot more.
00:35:12
And I think a lot of people nationally haven't quite looked at what else she was actually bringing back.
00:35:17
Like I said, I think there's that perspective of Okay.
00:35:20
Who did I know on l issues team? My new job. Borough.
00:35:24
A new bad more A new, quite ed would be layer a new grant. Delfin.
00:35:29
They're all gone, you know? And then you you know, you know, 14 players drafted, man, there's champion.
00:35:37
Anything back from this l a shoe team.
00:35:39
Well, I think those five programs I don't know about that fun.
00:35:44
There's some ballplayers on this squad.
00:35:46
It's one of the more talented squad you've ever seen.
00:35:49
I think anybody well covers this program and does.
00:35:52
Your team knows it is squarely on mild Brennan shoulders.
00:35:56
I mean, if he's a good player, that's gonna be a darn good teams visiting with our friend that trust a guy of Tiger bait dot com.
00:36:06
I think they're gonna be good.
00:36:07
I think Auburn will certainly be a team to watch in the West.
00:36:10
They you know, I Alabama without to last year.
00:36:12
But Auburn's got a quarterback back, and they're still even like their defensive line losses.
00:36:17
I like their personal.
00:36:18
I think that's a good team.
00:36:20
Well, yeah, I think all the first time.
00:36:21
A bonus lover.
00:36:22
Most people think he's terrible, but he was a true freshman last year.
00:36:26
He had some flashes of just I mean, you can't teach what he brings to the table.
00:36:31
A good athlete, But that arms something special.
00:36:35
And now he did, uh, Lady Kip, it the kind of Taylor him in the versus.
00:36:41
You know, uh, you know someone who really didn't know quite how toe Taylor, a quarterback in last year.
00:36:48
Oh, I'm sorry.
00:36:49
Did I killed a man? I'm sitting here.
00:36:52
It's okay.
00:36:53
No, war is really hard.
00:36:56
hard corn seen on me.
00:36:58
I'm really sorry.
00:36:59
Gust Mouth on.
00:37:01
But yes.
00:37:02
No, he's gonna, uh he's gonna have year two in that system.
00:37:06
A little bit different from Gus is typical quarterback, but yeah, I know.
00:37:09
He I think he's gonna get a lot better, I think Another one to watch out for stand Elling there from Texas.
00:37:16
He's a senior now, I think, Texas.
00:37:18
A lot of people were in that.
00:37:20
This is the make or break year.
00:37:22
Oh, boy, Tom Herman there who? I know a lot of fans listening.
00:37:25
Probably wanted Tom Pirmin above Does Iran when they when they were going through the hiring process.
00:37:31
But I think they're happy with the decision at this point, But this is a proven year.
00:37:35
He's got a senior quarterback.
00:37:37
Andi got a veteran team.
00:37:40
Um, they do lose that really good receiver Duvernay, who tore up for Christian holding this last year.
00:37:48
But, you know, I think Texas is a tough one. Watch.
00:37:53
I'm Ellen might be the best quarterback they play all year.
00:37:58
You know, I dio it's a predator like sound low.
00:38:03
Don't you get out there.
00:38:06
Bad connection.
00:38:07
Yellow shoe game took a ton on of them last year.
00:38:09
I think they went from being in their minds and national contender to being a five lost team.
00:38:15
Never did really recover from that, in my estimation.
00:38:18
And and they're still a pretty good football team and Hermans a pretty good football.
00:38:24
But again, what you said is accurate.
00:38:26
The concept of be careful, what you wish for comes to mind.
00:38:30
Whether was Jimbo Fisher or Tom Herman unless you ended up in a very good place? Oh, yeah, no, I'll throw myself under the bus.
00:38:37
You know, I'm very open about I great.
00:38:42
Higher is a poor higher, and it turns out I actually don't know anything about football or sports, for that matter, because my God, look what he's done since we got here.
00:38:53
But I do know that you're very happy about that.
00:38:55
Look, everybody I'm was pulling for Ed because of who he is.
00:39:01
He's a genuine guy.
00:39:03
He's he's a Louisiana.
00:39:04
To the degree looks, the part sounds the part.
00:39:08
There's nothing dishonest about him.
00:39:10
And you really want Teoh now? Yeah, I did games I did.
00:39:16
I did games for Comcast.
00:39:17
I did some SEC games for Comcast play by play when it was at Ole Miss.
00:39:22
And I mean, I saw what transpired there.
00:39:26
And now Well, Mrs not l s U.
00:39:28
With all due respect, you could be at the top of the heat.
00:39:33
That happened old mess.
00:39:34
We're taking tremendous leap of faith by a large.
00:39:38
But he was a different guy then and therefore I had some cause for pause as well.
00:39:43
Not is demonstratively negative.
00:39:47
I certainly had cause for pause, and it certainly seemed like they settled on and they did.
00:39:53
But talk about turning out great.
00:39:55
It's final for L S U Why couldn't thus far worked out any better, you know? Yes, he wanted championship in his third season like Les Miles did.
00:40:06
But, you know, I think people look at it and they realized that this was a team that you know, was completely built by Atos Iran.
00:40:14
And he did it his way.
00:40:17
Tired essentially a granite in off the New Orleans Saints revolutionized, you know, his offense completely changed the whole perception of everything.
00:40:26
So he did it his way.
00:40:27
It was peculiar, highly questionable when you were losing explored that when you're beating Clinton by 17 points in the national title.
00:40:35
No one's question it anymore.
00:40:36
So I think that people have to feel good about you know where the program is at this point, Very copping what he's doing and recruiting is I made my jaw drop that he has brought it to a new level.
00:40:48
When Ellis, she was already at a good place, especially with to back to back down seasons in Louisiana in terms of recruits.
00:40:57
Um, he went national within the last couple of years, and he's doing a pretty good job.
00:41:05
And then, finally, of course, with regard to the programs that that are the top programs in the country, One of my favorite whipping boys, Colin Coward, had another terrible taken recently with this.
00:41:19
His pronunciation that the programs that feel different or Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Southern cow.
00:41:28
Yeah, I think you know, hasn't won anything since 2000 for Oklahoma, who gets trashed in the playoffs every year.
00:41:35
Ohio State, who's got elite talent.
00:41:37
But when's the last time they won in Alabama for good reason certainly belongs in there.
00:41:43
But then the rest of his take was even even more Hamas, saying it doesn't matter who coaches L s u R Georgia.
00:41:50
But next.
00:41:51
Same.
00:41:52
And they dominate the conference.
00:41:53
Well, since Nick Saban left, and yes, he has dominated L s u L issues won two national championships under two different coaches.
00:42:00
Last time I checked Mm.
00:42:02
And, Oh, by the way, what about Clemson's? How in the world could not have Clemson? Colin is just so bad when it comes for justice.
00:42:12
College football take I just cringe worthy to me, um, that, you know, he has such a boy.
00:42:18
I'm also gonna say Colin cover is is the worse.
00:42:22
Just like in the NFL, he's the worst when when it comes to the NFL, I mean, that's one thing about common covered Look, he's gonna say, um, the four, um, they are dirty.
00:42:34
He's not going to say about L S U.
00:42:36
He's gonna say Oklahoma on all Let's stop in college football.
00:42:41
But he's also in the NFL.
00:42:43
He's going to say, um, Seattle, whatever, whatever the **** thing he says, I mean, lucky.
00:42:51
I don't listen to what Colin Carver says, and I never did, and I never will.
00:42:56
That's one thing in common with me.
00:42:58
I will tell you the way it is.
00:43:01
That's some how I roll here on sports talk.
00:43:05
So once again, this is from pressing Guy, uh, he's on.
00:43:09
He was on national 6.
00:43:10
1 with 10.
00:43:11
Trey hand will continue Teoh the interview with, um 10 trade hands.
00:43:18
When we play that for you, you talk about this stuff and it's just so on.
00:43:27
Well, it's justly.
00:43:29
Yeah, it's not very well thought out.
00:43:32
I mean, uh, so one of the things, you know, it stands out to me.
00:43:37
His reasoning was these programs, when they have a great coach, look what they do and that comes down to Oh, yeah, Ohio State was pretty good under Urban Meyer families pretty good under saving to me.
00:43:51
Personally, I don't think that means much about the program.
00:43:56
You know, What is your program doing with, you know, a guy like you know who most people consider average coach left Miles.
00:44:03
Oh, you want a championship with left miles of the hanging helm and averaged 10 wins a year, you know, and I think a lot of people look at what he was doing is very outdated.
00:44:12
A lot of talk guys, a lot of predictability type stuff.
00:44:15
And I think that's while you program.
00:44:18
You can have a guy most people regard is on average, coach, and you're winning a national title with him.
00:44:23
You know, you have to look, you know, I wish you won three national championships under three different head coaches in the last, you know? What is that? 18 years since 2000.
00:44:33
Really? You know, and I think, you know, his reasoning was kind of lazy.
00:44:39
And then, you know, one of the things I think that e think Alabama he nailed on the head.
00:44:45
You have to throw recently, Bias.
00:44:48
When you rank program.
00:44:50
You want to know why? Because that 17 year old recruit who's gonna be the difference between whether your program completes for the playoffs or competing for Circle K bowls in the next few years? Um, he doesn't really care very much about what your program was doing in the ninth.
00:45:09
He doesn't care about the eighties.
00:45:11
He doesn't care about the seventies.
00:45:12
All that it great to show, you know, I have X amount of championship.
00:45:17
Okay, cool.
00:45:18
But you know what open it was? These kids watch football And what happens during their lifetime, Matt.
00:45:25
It just matters because they take you stay here. Okay.
00:45:29
Well, you know, Oklahoma wanted in 2000.
00:45:31
That was That was, let's see, four years before I was born, you know, like, they're not really gonna care all that much because it was present.
00:45:42
So, you know, the BCS started two programs have won three or more championship and that l s u and Alabama.
00:45:53
Okay.
00:45:54
And during that same time frame on Lee, three teams have won championships under multiple head coaches.
00:46:01
And I wish you the only 1/2 3 different coaches do it.
00:46:05
So may I mean you can debate all you want.
00:46:08
I think Clinton was idiotic.
00:46:10
Misfire, I think, missing on l shoot.
00:46:13
But I think you have so l issue in that top tier.
00:46:16
I might even argue Ella shoes in the top three programs in the country right now.
00:46:23
Well, I would not disagree with that.
00:46:24
You can follow him on Twitter at p.
00:46:26
Guy underscores 77.
00:46:28
That's p g y underscore 77.
00:46:31
Go to aggravate dot com.
00:46:32

00:48:50
Let me switch this out and we will go to, um say switch it out and we will go to? Um um he said John, Coach Brandon Brown will go ahead and play that video for yet.
00:49:05
That was three days ago, but we won't play it time.
00:49:08
And how are you, my friend? You know, I'm well, thanks for having me, you know, doing blast off.
00:49:15
You know, I'm just happy that I'm on top of dirt, that there's not on top on top, living in strange times.
00:49:21
Right? So it was very important that we stay safe ground still here.
00:49:27
You sound just like me.
00:49:29
And a lot of us, for that matter.
00:49:31
I mean, I give thanks.
00:49:32
Every day I wake up, I wake up, I'm here and I'm talking and I get up out of bed.
00:49:36
I think that's a prayer.
00:49:37
And thank the Lord. Move on.
00:49:39
So and that Spencer been the case for a while, but even more so Now, talk about the process, Brandon, of how this is gone for.
00:49:45
And we've had a lot of coaches on, but each one has kind of an individual story.
00:49:49
Initially, you can only gather four people together at one time.
00:49:53
Now it's 25.
00:49:54
I suspect that you're doing it at different time.
00:49:57
intervals during the day to be able to get everybody gathered.
00:50:01
Is that correct? Absolutely.
00:50:03
You know, it's been kind of kind of strange.
00:50:05
However, you know, I met with my staff.
00:50:09
We've been out saying March, you know, with the covert way took a different approach way kind of try to use time wisely.
00:50:17
And so we, uh we had weekly going meeting on me and my staff, and then we kind of even went on to kids.
00:50:25
So the kids doing meeting when we met with our kids are players.
00:50:29
Um, he had nothing to do with football.
00:50:30
Just want to make sure that those guys and their families say, making sure they were staying on active occasionally, you know, make sure they're doing work just staying active.
00:50:39
So I think that was a really big thing for us.
00:50:43
We, you know, he was able to just keep in touch with our guys, and I told you, just make sure everyone was safe.
00:50:49
So, um, were ableto get a chance to get back me June a Louisiana.
00:50:55
You know, Mr Born, I know he made will be the date and we're all excited and we're here comes Hurricane and so I would kind of push it back to the tent.
00:51:03
And so, you know, from then on, we have a great turnout.
00:51:07
You know, like you said, we've been coming the intervals, you know, so just kind of he could not guys who pot so that 15 guys together, you know, 25 way.
00:51:19
Just want to make sure that we were safe.
00:51:21
Put on.
00:51:22
Definitely.
00:51:23
And you will have have one or two coats kind of trouble with just that in those things.
00:51:29
Been working Well, you know, you know, we took that approach that no way would complain about it.
00:51:34
We're complained about what we couldn't do, And we were take more individual time with individual players, and so I think it's gonna really benefit up, you know, down the road.
00:51:43
Just this time, we're being able to spell guys individually.
00:51:47
So I told I got the whole the entire month of June.
00:51:51
We wouldn't do anything for my wife.
00:51:53
We just kind of been This is a tradition.
00:51:55
Indians and constraint training.
00:51:57
I didn't submit himself talked Rockies skin about 10 or 15 minutes, you know, just talking rocks.
00:52:03
It's making sure they're in a good mind.
00:52:05
We had a you know, So nothing happened immediately, but kids lost on some offences.
00:52:10
Grand parents, you know, to Kobe just kind of wanna, um you know, we hadn't did anything.
00:52:15
He had such a ball, That'll just getting our kids back into with missiles.
00:52:21
You know, before we start talking about football, Lenny Coach, what do you think is gonna be the key to making up for and everybody facing the fact that no one went through spring drills this year and you know, the time that you would have had that scrimmage you lost in there and I know you get everybody gets to be able to start August 1st instead of what I think it was August 11th or whatever the the date is, you get that little bit of time on the front end.
00:52:53
But that that time away, what is it that you can do as a team as a staff to help give you a little bit of an edge over the others? Because of that, lost the march April and may Well, once again, I think you know the time that we lost, we kind of really stepped out time no physical way want together, but just a mental part of So you know, I am Jordi.
00:53:22
Uh, you know, would it be in mine? And it really helped me a lot.
00:53:25
You know, I lost my dad in December, and so, um, just just gave me some time to kind of sit back.
00:53:33
I'm relaxing, enjoying my family's well, But also, I could see we were meeting What are coaches meeting with our players on Zoom.
00:53:41
And you just help us build a better relationship.
00:53:44
And, uh, you know, I mean, as you all say, you know, players have played better for you really believe, you know when you buy it.
00:53:50
So give us a chance to really, really meet our guy.
00:53:53
You know, I see him in a different light, more sorting on the field.
00:53:57
And you know so and I think he's gonna help us in the long run.
00:54:00
Just that relationship you can.
00:54:03
We can expect more and get more of like guys because they understand us that our coaches understanding that his kids So I think that they understand that it is bigger than just coaching for us.
00:54:14
They understand that we really care about we really care about? They will be really care about the family.
00:54:19
I mean, you know, this whole time we're going back, we hadn't touched a football, not one time.
00:54:23
So I think I guys really, you know, they really buying in, like, Wow, you know, this is digging in football, you know, with me what is being home.
00:54:32
You know, I always dreamed about at home and Green about building a dynasty program do about Champs program, you know, But I always felt like I had to start somewhere else in the field and told, Give us opportunities to start places other in the field, starting the home.
00:54:46
Start with the relationship.
00:54:48
So I'm going to help him on the back end.
00:54:52
Business coach Brandon Brown of the East, Saint John, Wildcats and coaches Faras on the field is concerned a solid season.
00:55:01
Last year you get to the playoffs and, of course, you're able to advance upsetting Central in the first great road win in a thrilling game, 34 to 30.
00:55:11
And then you put up 29 points against airline.
00:55:14
But it wasn't enough against a good team there, so last year was a good season you have a chance to build on that.
00:55:20
I know you've got some good players returning this year.
00:55:24
Jackie Marshall obviously is a kind of that people are paying a lot of attention to will.
00:55:28
And Williams is another guy, that it is a very good player that people know all about.
00:55:33
Let's talk about last season and talk about just a quick note.
00:55:37
Everybody will have the Alvin Gentry our press conference immediately following the Brandon Brown interviews.
00:55:43
So we'll have that shortly.
00:55:46
Would coach Gentry.
00:55:47
So we will replay it So it years on right now.
00:55:51
But we will replay it after the Brandon Brown interview.
00:55:55
Will have coached Gentry some thoughts on the New Orleans Pelicans season, so I will have that for you.
00:56:01
Hey, on sports talk with Caroline, my show.
00:56:04
So let's get back toe Coach Brandon Brown with the East Saint John Wildcats on now, Just 106.
00:56:10
1 time.
00:56:12
You know, last season, like you said that already for years to our ever please, you know, I mean, you know, we lose weight.
00:56:20
We lost toe very, very well coached team and ST here.
00:56:25
Your chance taking before reason.
00:56:28
You know and, you know, early on lost him in.
00:56:31
Um, that night I told my staff to listen.
00:56:34
Nobody I know they were, You know, they were that much better than they were a coach, you know, they're fundamentally sound, knows nothing out here and do it again.
00:56:46
You know, we were going toe district news game.
00:56:50
No, very.
00:56:51
I just didn't think we played very well at all.
00:56:54
Not taking anything away from them.
00:56:56
We didn't play Well, um, you like to see it, so I kind of get things going and didn't lose in a second round.
00:57:03
But again, I think, you know, as trying to build a program, you know, things like that happen.
00:57:11
We just gotta keep building we talk about is in the style of programme, you know, brick by brick.
00:57:15
And so do you agree it's time to add another brick.
00:57:18
And that's what I tell our guys.
00:57:20
Ever get time to take that next step? So you gotta work, bring the dog.
00:57:24
I work out.
00:57:26
We lost very, very quality.
00:57:28
Yeogu, you know, receiving corps quarterback, you know, on defense, but their skills lost very, very talented. Give.
00:57:38
However, you know, I think we come back this year.
00:57:42
We very strong up front.
00:57:43
Defense alive on the They're very good.
00:57:46
I'm often have a really, really in the truth is when I tell people, you know, like, wow, how can you say that? But I think that the skills you have coming up it's gonna be better than we just lost it.
00:58:02
Kind of hard to believe when you talk about leaving a guy like that, you know? You know, losing a guy like Sean Shelby, our quarterback.
00:58:10
But we have those young guys, and you have a really, really good No, but here's the key thing is very, very inexperienced.
00:58:16
So we're gonna have to depend on guys like Willingly Jack divorce.
00:58:19
You gonna lead us, tell these young guys.
00:58:21
Come on.
00:58:22
So that's kind of been off.
00:58:25
Kind of been our thing.
00:58:26
So the good thing is with Kobe, you know, I talked our coast about it all the time.
00:58:31
What's happening to you? We're developing here because we have to get our guys coming part.
00:58:37
You got 50 at a time.
00:58:38
So we try to strategically put him in a situation where Jack is not in a weakness with She can't be well, not in the women with whom he can't believe someone else has to step up.
00:58:50
And so we're really finding guys that way.
00:58:53
And so, you know, really, this covert is the best in this crisis.
00:58:55
Could we find some guys willing that what they've been up to the challenge for? Like, I think, you know, that's the first thing they tell them.
00:59:03
Look around.
00:59:04
You know, Jackie, you know, Whelan.
00:59:06
There's no Marcus Jackson.
00:59:07
You know, all those things got kind of they're not in e.
00:59:11
I need to find a leader on.
00:59:12
So we have some guys stepping up to the challenge.
00:59:15
So I think it's going to really help, you know, when a long one.
00:59:18
But again, defense is gonna be really, really be thinking bigger.
00:59:22
We're gonna be faster and stronger, especially what I got from were turned off by God's front.
00:59:27
So you know what? I always told people you can run a football success.
00:59:33
You've got turned on offense.
00:59:35
My and I think we have to change can trade him money.
00:59:40
Van Gilder with coach Brandon Brown of East John Lenny, What is a coach is someone who played there and is now back.
00:59:50
What is it makes high school football so special in the river parishes.
00:59:54
I think you know everyone has you want to stay championship or at least has been to a state championship game.
01:00:03
I mean, it's not just one program or two programs you got down there and, you know, at different times they've all experienced the greatest level of success there is to experience in our state.
01:00:14
Absolutely.
01:00:15
You know, it's nothing like repair football, you know, and I don't say that lightly.
01:00:20
But when I can talk about football, you know, in my mind is the SEC of high school football.
01:00:27
Oh, you know, week in and week out.
01:00:29
I mean, you know, you have people like you say you're in a year out from you guys that you contend for the championship.
01:00:35
So here's a chance for, you know, like uses all the time.
01:00:38
1980 was the last time this change on the person, not guys up and down the river.
01:00:46
No year in a year out.
01:00:47
Somebody from the repairs going to change.
01:00:51
We're next, and that's what I told I got.
01:00:53
Why not us? So that's the challenge for us.
01:00:55
The challenge wants to to show everybody that we belong, you know? And so in that, honestly, I want to bring back those robbers DVD kids here playing here, you know, always playing this team.
01:01:08
Luxor ST James, you know, so no course, pedestrian, Harvey, Others in that condition that that that's been a go.
01:01:17
I actually reached out to maintain a way, actually playing, Gonna continue.
01:01:23
I reached out Teoh Coach Jenkin, go with Russia, and hopefully we could get me going on and we could start.
01:01:30
Oh, you know, I just wanna, you know, like you see, woman.
01:01:34
I mean, it's gonna be great.
01:01:35
Football is gonna be great for the community is nothing like football.
01:01:40
And I feel like if you're gonna be the best, you have to compete against better.
01:01:43
So that's my mind way.
01:01:46
Want to be the papal about championship ball clubs? You're up in on a river.
01:01:50
And so, uh, we want to show that we belong, only we should belong.
01:01:56
You know, we get to that point where we went out with those programs.
01:01:59
I have a Robert about that game.
01:02:04
Talk a lot in try to get some ideas and pick it back off and both in the same.
01:02:09
We hopefully one day we can farm that bind where? You know, You say those a three that repairs.
01:02:16
You know, it won't at some point that we already know that.
01:02:19
You know, we already don't.
01:02:20
We all French championships, so we're going to get there, you know? And I told our guys we, you know, with a little brother right now, you know, we don't want it.
01:02:28
Don't have a champion.
01:02:29
We don't want to have to play for one in a while, you know, it's time.
01:02:31
It's time to change that.
01:02:32
So that's our goal, right? We're trying to change that.
01:02:37
You busy with Brandon Brown of the ST John and Coach? You River Parish guy? You played in East Saint John. You went to all corn.
01:02:44
Of course, however successful in coaching, talk about your experience growing up as we deal with these changes in our country right now and social justice, talk about your own experiences.
01:02:56
What discrimination or racism you may have faced.
01:02:59
It was over covert.
01:03:01
If it was a lot a little from your perspective, as we try to educate and help everyone understand why people feel the way they do.
01:03:10
Well, you know what You know, and I'm very blessed.
01:03:14
Unfortunate, not tell it to my God all the time.
01:03:16
So, um, you know, I don't say this to be back.
01:03:21
You know, I had a unique situation.
01:03:23
I was in a situation where I was in a home with mom and Dad allowed my teammates.
01:03:28
I wasn't.
01:03:30
Oh, you know, my dad, you know, has always been in the church and the pastor of the church, you know, just simple.
01:03:36
So, um, you know, my situation is a little different.
01:03:40
However, we was raised to be found.
01:03:45
And so I think my dad being in church do a lot of people.
01:03:49
And he always taught me to help and to be a helping hand.
01:03:53
So that's just kind of the way I was raised.
01:03:55
Whether you know, white, black, green, it didn't matter.
01:03:59
Cannot give your school.
01:04:00
I went This place is feeling the plans.
01:04:05
Why don't back there that there are ever new? It's called **** connections.
01:04:10
Okay.
01:04:11
The owner is, uh, Caucasian white people.
01:04:13
So what happened? Watch.
01:04:16
I was in high school.
01:04:18
It was a lady on several world with a flat hard on my dad pulled inside road, you know, offered to help fix a flat meantime, both thinks they're flat and she office giving money.
01:04:31
No, ma'am, I don't need your money.
01:04:32
I just want to help.
01:04:33
I have I have a daughter and I have a wife.
01:04:36
And I would hope that someone would be the way she went to our cars.
01:04:42
The same running back.
01:04:43
He goes there.
01:04:44
Here's my card.
01:04:45
My husband, I owned home a connection.
01:04:48
If you know anybody that need any kind of talks, Italy's just come I'm gonna take care of anything.
01:04:53
We look, by the way, my son he's seeing he's going and she said, Look, just come to my shop.
01:04:58
We went to the shop and everything was laid off free of charge and everything, and it just, you know, So I think, you know, just just left dead.
01:05:07
We didn't see black or white.
01:05:08
We never we never be it You don't know.
01:05:11
And so, uh, you know it, I think, is what you make it.
01:05:15
Now you know you have the talk back up.
01:05:16
Yeah, black people.
01:05:18
You have good white people.
01:05:19
You have, you know, bad people it.
01:05:22
Is it just You are how you make things so well, uh, you know, you know, it's a tough situation because I hate to see the state who are working right now.
01:05:35
No, I just think it's no place for it's no place for the engine.
01:05:38
There's no place for the ones.
01:05:39
You know.
01:05:41
I just hate that.
01:05:42
And I hate that we're dealing with this, and at some point, you know, we need to become ah, family, you know, no matter what color you.
01:05:50
Well, you know, I can see that was just a good example of something I did with my life.
01:05:54
I mean, it wasn't a bad is actually a good situation.
01:05:58
And I think at the country we could not get to those kind of situations where we live. Help.
01:06:03
So and, uh, you know, this is not the king is not the keys right now.
01:06:10
Oh, you know it.
01:06:11
But, you know, again, I'm one who just don't cover.
01:06:15
You know, I see the kind of people heart I see.
01:06:18
People are judged for who they are.
01:06:21
And that's the way I hope to be treated the same way.
01:06:24
And so you know, that's the message.
01:06:27
I try to teach you the my Children.
01:06:30
I have two kids, you know, five years, six years When I try to teach that to them on a daily basis Oh, you know, I always also when they step foot in the field house, teach that to every kid that comes in Not only football as a, you know, mean it at school.
01:06:46
Like ST John, I have, like, a black Hispanic and whoever that a direct I want didn't know that I am.
01:06:54
You know, the guy that you can only know I have your best is your heart.
01:06:57
So I d o e cover. Don't matter.
01:07:01
I would being a benefit.
01:07:13
And I would hope that one day this working well, well, I would have a follow up question, but I think you just stated it all about as well as anyone ever could have done so.
01:07:23
Get to Well, you don't allow reporters to follow up with good questions.
01:07:27
What's wrong with you? Make a great summation, and I do think that if people heard that, then it got that memo.
01:07:34
We'd all be in great shape.
01:07:35
But it's a revelation of your dagger and who you are.
01:07:38
I think that speaks volumes for the respect that people have.
01:07:43
Why we feel the same way. Lenny.
01:07:45
A final thought for Coach Brown before we let him get away.
01:07:48
I e.
01:07:49
I agree with what you were saying.
01:07:50
I'm not No, not allowing not allowing a question.
01:07:54
What? What do you see happening on the on the high school from who seemed so much talking about college athletes and professional athletes and some of the things that is, Obviously they are, you know, they're more visible and more high profile and more mainstream.
01:08:11
And some of the things that they're going to try to do to keep, uh, keep, you know, keep the name of social change and social justice out there.
01:08:20
What are the things that you might see on the high school level? Would have what kind of conversations of you and your players had in that regard? When it comes to you know, this football season, go, uh, you know, I can't speak for you know, the majority.
01:08:36
I can't speak for the masses.
01:08:37
However, he ST John is a program where I told my guys that this this is one of the leader disclosed you guys, you know, and I put my coaches there.
01:08:49
You're gonna go And, um, you know, I'm just not, you know, I'm about doing the right thing.
01:08:57
So now there's a situation where you know he could completely gets out of hand.
01:09:01
You know, there there's a stance that we need to take you will.
01:09:06
But at this point, I just want everyone in love until and I just want everyone to be in a situation where we can all get alone, that we can all learn from me.
01:09:17
And so that's where that's what we did with our program.
01:09:21
And I told our guys get they have to understand that, you know, no matter of race, no matter color the meta background, no matter a full economic standard, you're gonna always need someone.
01:09:33
You know.
01:09:34
You can always help someone, but on the other end of it, you can always Oh, that's our mind, and not just with racial things, just with guys in general.
01:09:45
So you may have this senior who's, you know, just a great athlete that that's being highly recruited.
01:09:50
But do you have a expressing myself? Not there was counting.
01:09:54
I just work at it.
01:09:55
You know, I tell a guy that was time you got killed.
01:10:00
You know what you do in hiding? Treat certain Because one day that God may be your boss.
01:10:05
One day you may have to go interview for a job and next acted behind until that Mr down.
01:10:12
My mixed it up in my program that you gotta be very, very careful.
01:10:17
That's the biggest thing.
01:10:18
You gotta treat them.
01:10:19
That's what I was talking.
01:10:20
My dad always told me that you have to be careful how you treat people.
01:10:23
Because one day you know what they say.
01:10:26
He made your balls.
01:10:28
Maybe that person that you need a job, you know, are you need you know, when you know you're going to get a home loan.
01:10:38
You know, he may be the You never know.
01:10:41
You better be careful and just treat you right.
01:10:46
Well, three people, the way you want to be treated.
01:10:48
It's a very simple premise.
01:10:49
And respect is something that seems to be lost right now.
01:10:52
And a lot of areas, but not here.
01:10:54
And certainly not from Brandon Brown of the ST John Brandon.
01:10:57
Thank you so much for the time you loved the good work that you just coaching.
01:11:02
But answering young men and with your own Children and not truly bless you and yours.
01:11:07
Okay, once again, we will have ab injectors, press conference that we were supposed to play it, but we are gonna play it now, so we go ahead and switch it over to be on the walls.
01:11:17

01:11:25

01:11:28

01:11:34
Will play back the Alvin Gentry, plus a press conference here or no sports talk with Carolyn Marsh.
01:11:40
L Let's go ahead and stop this out.
01:11:43
And we will What? Alvin Gentry's press conference on.
01:11:47
So go ahead and do that one.
01:11:48
Suck it.
01:11:50
It is.
01:11:52
You'll see it come up on the string.
01:11:56
Yeah.
01:12:02
Save it.
01:12:03
Comes up.
01:12:05
Yeah.
01:12:08
Wait for the signal to come up.
01:12:16
You.
01:12:19
Well, on one second.
01:12:20
We're trying to get it to go. Go in.
01:12:26
We'll try to refresh it.
01:12:28
Don't know. Got a signal.
01:12:30
Apologize.
01:12:32
Get signal with this time trying to see if we get a signal Just give me one second.
01:12:44
Switch it.
01:12:49
Okay.
01:12:50
Bits of sports.
01:12:51
Thanks for joining us.
01:12:52
We will have the Alvin Gentry press conference in just a few moments, so I'm gonna see we get, um, the press conference I'm trying to say would get it.
01:13:02
Oh, no.
01:13:03
What's going on? We have a little signal issues.
01:13:05
We're gonna see if we get it on back on the stream.
01:13:08
Apologize.
01:13:12
So we'll see if we get it back on the screen.
01:13:20
Well, on one second.
01:13:35
You with that second marketing my plan in Orlando and I I'm looking forward.
01:13:58
Season hiatus.
01:14:00
You know, we were playing really fast.
01:14:03
Hopefully, we can get back to that.
01:14:04
That's why I'm not treatment, really.
01:14:06
As a training camp, I would treat it more economical where we left off, because this, uh, just this pandemic in general for everybody.
01:14:16
Just kind of like, You know how much risk you tolerate to do something.
01:14:21
Just just do you explain a little bit of why you are comfortable, you know, wanting.
01:14:28
Well, number one I mean, to be honest with, you know, these guys way had a struggle.
01:14:34
And you guys I mean, we lost 13 straight gangs.
01:14:38
You know, usually when that happens in this league and really any other leave, you know, there's a good chance where is just kind of went on.
01:14:47
That never happened.
01:14:48
And so, uh, you know, they within the park told instead by May I want to do the same thing.
01:14:57
Yeah.
01:14:59
I wanna go bust him out.
01:15:01
Okay.
01:15:02
Trying to do well, how do you are? Do you talk to potentially knowing that it's a possibility? You know, Chris pinch or somebody about what does happen Just as a preparation If I'm not there, I mean, is it in the back of your mind? Or is it something that until I'm not overall area, everything everything so far that we talked about Maybe in there how we're gonna no, like, Haven't I know you can't really speculate on on what else but the NBA's gonna before out with for the well, you have the hope, Bo.
01:15:58
And I mean, I would mean that they're going through every brand new there.
01:16:04
Every can go new to everyone.
01:16:18
I know that they MBA is going and, uh, you have the whole you area money players.
01:16:38
We live for here with everything going on in the world game point.
01:16:43
But over our what you whole could really benefit from sports.
01:16:51
Being back in just kind of a distraction.
01:16:53
Maybe from bad headlines in the news.
01:16:58
Well, I somewhat right.
01:17:02
I don't think it's going ever replace social.
01:17:10
Now everyone is very good heaven.
01:17:18
Thanks.
01:17:19
Happening.
01:17:23
Someone last week about you? I didn't.
01:17:31
My answer? No.
01:17:35
Hey, you know, also says a lot of country years and, you know, we made progress, but I think there's a heck of a lot more progress we can make.
01:17:55
Let me.
01:18:02
Really, Guys being I think that's something that we first but working they would I don't laying around Mark Turgeon here.
01:18:52
Your family? Yeah, folks will be fans in the arena.
01:19:09
You're Yeah.
01:19:16
Something anyone series you? No, we're We've my career.
01:19:39
That was a pretty comical but I think eyes something you will adjust to become I do think Chris, do you think bench is going to be very important down? You hear years not yelling slow.
01:20:22
I mean, they a para scopes kind of Sandalow horrible.
01:20:27
And I turn the sound up a little bit.
01:20:29
This big change by the culture pretty major change.
01:20:42
How concerned are you? That thing is that you might say to officials and players will be.
01:20:47
I knew that was coming here.
01:20:50
Uh, we're gonna be very nice to the officials.
01:20:54
It's gonna be in a situation.
01:20:56
I'm obviously we're in a situation where everything is going pretty much heard.
01:21:02
You know, I think just the fact that we're back playing, uh and really a lot of times what you guys think a really responses things is more of a competitive situation.
01:21:14
And the one thing I will say way have the best vessel officials in all of sports.
01:21:20
And they're very, very good at adapting and stopped laughing.
01:21:24
Carlisle, Uh, and, uh, they adapt to situations.
01:21:30
They really do.
01:21:32
You know, they give you a lot, a lot of leeway.
01:21:34
And then when it's time, I'm very good at communicate that to you and and Ben, we're pretty good at.
01:21:44
They're pretty good at allowing us a certain distance and then held in the grift.
01:21:52
Talked earlier out.
01:21:54
He thinks mental toughness is going to be a key to this whole situation.
01:21:59
How how do you is a stab? You and your staff improved mental toughness with the team.
01:22:04
Like what? You'll talk to them about how you try dress.
01:22:08
Well, it's a good question.
01:22:10
I think one of the things that you know, communication is going to be key.
01:22:15
I mean, you gotta really have be on top of things, you know, being isolated for, you know, a minimum of 45 days and a maximum almost three months, almost 90 days.
01:22:29
Uh, this is something that no one's ever experienced either.
01:22:32
So you're gonna have to make sure that you're communicating with you guys.
01:22:39
There's something on their mind.
01:22:40
They gotta feel comfortable.
01:22:42
Come in and talk about on not just the basketball part.
01:22:46
Been in an environment where you limited how you can go and where you can travel, and being really in a bubble is gonna be everyone.
01:22:56
So it's gonna be a challenge.
01:22:59
But I gotta think that communication is going to hold key there.
01:23:03
And if your players are at a point where you know this is of a mental standpoint, just wearing on the then you're gonna have to find some solutions.
01:23:17
You talked about different adjustments that guys are gonna have to make you have any concerns for Josh heart that he's not gonna have any fans toe talk trash with during games or jaw with a mix of three.
01:23:29
Oh, it doesn't go that with his own coaching staff, so he'll he'll will still have something that lean the being back.
01:23:37
No fans are there, so I guess we'll be the I guess it will be the target of this, right? Alvin a.
01:23:47
T this point right now, Do you expect all of your starters And maybe even if you know your bench players to do you expect them toe, make the trip to Orlando and want to play? I mean, I know right now it's there are some players who are 50 50.
01:24:03
I guess you and I know one is no.
01:24:07
No one on the team has ever said that thing.
01:24:12
If the situation were, guys are ready to get back, uh, into playing and ready to compete.
01:24:18
So no one is ever mentioned that not it ever come up in any other conversation, but that I've had with, you know, on the phone calls are individual calls.
01:24:31
They would not The coach I've seen couple of the guys used their platforms and show that they've been peacefully protesting in the last few weeks.
01:24:43
Some of young guys through their favours, one of your conversations and like with just your players over the past few weeks, in moments about just the moment that we every not America, well, that that's a good question also.
01:24:57
And I think what we've talked about is that the opportunity that if present for all of us, really no, uh, to you able to speak up, be able way sought a lot about someone situations.
01:25:14
I have to say that, you know, I was involved in a protest march here with my my son, you know, city locked down precinct and not have to say that it makes you proud of New Orleans in the way everything has been handled here.
01:25:35
Yes, from the standpoint of it, and to communicate and educate things along those lines.
01:25:45
So the guys have thought about talk about that and obviously have a association.
01:25:53
But I think it's a situation where on we talked a lot where it's about communication and education and, you know, maybe it's time to have a conversation with one of your friends.
01:26:07
You got an afford.
01:26:08
It is been great with my son.
01:26:11
Uh, he's a lot conversations with his friends that he went to school with Newman and, you know, and for a lot of those guys, they just said, you know, I didn't know.
01:26:23
I just I You know, it's not that I didn't care, but I just didn't know.
01:26:27
So I think educating and having conversations and being able to talk to each other and being able to ask Quest Uh, it is what our guys are tryingto also Ah, implement in there A horse that is gonna be heard you have.
01:26:48
And what kind of challenges does the format when this using resume, present us faras roster death, You know, not just maybe for your team, with for all the teams.
01:27:00
Well, you know, it's gonna be interesting cause it's been a long time since the guys played their last game.
01:27:07
So it's gonna be interesting on the condition over, but I don't anticipate any team playing long extended appendix, and I think especially in the food re scrimmage games that will have you'll see coaches try to find out exactly were the conditioning is 13 and then try to get the timing back.
01:27:32
Among other things, you know, we're not going to be able, uh, practice.
01:27:38
So I think those three games figure that out.
01:27:47
Rotations.
01:27:48
I think a little deeper with again that we're playing really 11 games about, and that's coming back from really along.
01:28:02
If you pile, how would you say that? The Pelican step? How do you expect that to be going into this relative toe previous portions of the season? Another, Maybe a few guys.
01:28:16
You might have a chance to get back.
01:28:18
And then there's the two great players, you know, I think that, you know, Depp was beginning to show before this thing happened.
01:28:30
We played really good basketball on the road.
01:28:33
Yeah, I think more so than I thought.
01:28:36
I think I'll starters and and Zion and those guys were were beginning to Philip Chemistry and their roles was so well defined about themselves.
01:28:48
Really, you know that we were playing really good basketball than we had guys coming in off the bench and understanding that they may play five minutes by Marie minutes, maybe 10 minutes.
01:28:58
I think the most important think wild guys.
01:29:01
They come for the understanding that winning is the number one thing and all the other stuff, but on the back burner.
01:29:08
And I thought we were headed in that direction.
01:29:14
What's your reaction to the MBA? Finalizing the standings with, you know, winning percentage.
01:29:21
And obviously that could take away head to head with some of the teams, like, board and make your battling with What was your initial reaction to that? You know, we talked about this.
01:29:29
I'm on it.
01:29:30
I'm on the gradually committee way.
01:29:33
Talk a lot about how all of this is gonna work when we get back.
01:29:37
I think the one thing you gotta understand that there was no way that I could ever come up with land be satisfactory to everyone.
01:29:46
No are impaired to everyone.
01:29:49
I think they worked their butts off to try to come up with situation where it was gonna be at spares that could possibly make it.
01:29:58
Gave everyone enough.
01:30:02
You know, Memphis was already in the playoff situation, so they should have an advantage.
01:30:06
I don't Are you with Thanks.
01:30:08
So, uh, I think what happens is that change, that we're gonna be down, that I just want to have a legitimate chance to be involved in a situation where they had an opportunity to make the playoffs.
01:30:21
The MBA have presented that, and it's all you can ask for.
01:30:25
So everything else is gonna be really the coach, and the individual team is as far as trying to get there and get involved in.
01:30:38
If I could have a moment of levity, I know last year you joked that I mean, look, you work for Donald Sterling.
01:30:44
Last year, you joked that the whole thing with anti gay what should be a chapter in the book.
01:30:48
I mean, you've seen a lot of crazy things in the n b A in your time.
01:30:51
Does this mean maybe take to cake through lockouts and owners and trade demands and everything? I mean, this is more like in that situation, but nonetheless another unprecedented situation that your head coaching with, I think you know, like I think everyone, this is everyone you know, unless you're, you know, closing in on 100 years old.
01:31:14
So, you know, from the last time it is different than anybody and is you know, you even look around.
01:31:25
The city is different for the Russian.
01:31:27
You know, everybody is saying for a while, not just the country, but the world.
01:31:35
So this is something that no one has a manual estimate, how toe navigate is in any kind of way.
01:31:43
So I think what has happened? Number one, we have to try to be smart.
01:31:48
You know, I think me we all have to try do our part, keep everything State doesn't possibly can.
01:31:56
And then you know, the whole course of distant thing and all of that it plays a huge part and to at least get this under control.
01:32:09
Yeah, it's different for me, but this is the one time where I can say it's different for everyone that's involved in the n b A and throughout the whole country and hold what's the status now? Some of the guys who weren't playing when the season stop who? Uh, we're theoretically on pace to be better by now.
01:32:31
Like can ricin, Darius? Well, you know, they've been working and they've been working, working extremely hard, you know, way Get back.
01:32:41
And we get a practice times, You know, before we fly and you'll have to evaluate you change quickly and try to put him back together and trying to get into the more or chemistry is still there.
01:32:54
Uh, you know what you do in these situations? Uh, as no, I did a lot of back on you review all the games and you look at things that that you may want to change a little bit are something that you may want to add on something that one very efficient.
01:33:14
So those are all the things.
01:33:17
Wait.
01:33:18
But I think continued, Are there any restrictions on? Obviously we had was a big story with John playing time restriction isn't because of the format and so forth and value he has to the franchise future.
01:33:39
Any discussions about that? We're not gonna go down and play guys 40 minutes, right? And we'll have a gauge, you know, honestly, got a tremendous medical.
01:33:55
We've already communicated with them.
01:33:57
Uh, we'll talk to the players and, you know, but, uh, we'll try the who was right.
01:34:04
It's for being competitive.
01:34:08
Obviously, we're not going to listen Anything.
01:34:11
Sports players is gonna be interesting.
01:34:21
We have more questions for cooks.
01:34:22
Gentry drinking 100 on a regular basis.
01:34:28
Yeah, I go about a great house on my way to the God puts every day matching like they're on Fillmore.
01:34:35
It's pretty impressive.
01:34:38
No more are going to be correct.
01:34:40
Yes, it's beautiful.
01:34:43
Oh, that's it.
01:34:44
Guys got Well, it's good seeing everyone.
01:34:47
It really is.
01:34:49
You know, I'm looking forward, Teoh.
01:34:51
Just getting this thing going Been a long, long way.
01:34:56
I've been here the entire kind.
01:35:00
Yeah, I'm gonna put a lot into this.
01:35:03
Look, I'm gonna tell you right now.
01:35:05
Look, the future of this team is absolutely bright.
01:35:09
I look, Zion.
01:35:10
Wim said he's gonna play, is gonna play his cemented.
01:35:13
She's absolutely gonna play his minutes because, look, to be honest with you, Look, I don't want to see Zion get hurt in this situation and stuff like that, so I hope.
01:35:23
I mean, he's not gonna play for everybody 40 minutes down the line.
01:35:28
So that some that side of the question So I'm ready for the season.
01:35:34
So, um so, once again, this concludes today Sports talk with Gary Maier show we will be back later on with the on sports time to Wallace with podcasts.
01:35:47
With the American Conference preview, we will preview with the company American Conference in college football in 2020.
01:35:56

01:35:58
Also.
01:35:59
Just just a note.
01:36:01
If we do get, um, the monitor with baseball board of trustees are meeting today to see if they're going to Kansas season or not.
01:36:12
If we don't have, um, game tomorrow night, we most likely will have, um, wrestling.
01:36:22
Tomorrow night.
01:36:23

00:02:43
T.
00:05:26
My wife, Allison, is excited, and I am very excited in honor to welcome Jonathan Terrell, our next letting wow you So first of all So, first of all, I would like to say to God be the glory because I know that I'm staying here because of him.

00:06:09

01:11:17
Pelicans on fee Will, we will set up for Alvin Gentry's press conference.
01:11:25
So we're gonna get set in just a second.
01:11:28
Let me get it over to, um, we'll replace it.
01:34:08
