I'm Matt Williamson with er Barker to discuss Cam Newton getting signed by the New England Patriots.
You signed a one year, incentive laden deal worth up to 7.
5 million, which makes me think that Nunes absolutely gonna be the starter in New England or he wouldn't sign this deal.
That was incentive waiting, but or, you know, you get the big money.
So assuming he stays healthy and that's a huge no elephant in the room, is, is what's his health like? I love this move for Cam Newton and the Patriots.
It's a super low risk, very high reward signing for New England.
And if Newton plays great, they can always franchise him at the if need be after the season.
And the Patriots have a time of cap space next year, so this absolutely could be more than a one year deal.
I absolutely think he's gonna be the starter.
I mean, you don't make this move and having compete with Stadium Jared Stadium, that's not the way it's gonna happen.
And what was Newton? The last we saw him? Well first loses the M V P in 2015 and was phenomenal at that point of his career.
I also thought he was a really good player for the first half of 2018 season before that shoulder injury and then he said Lisfranc surgery and substance then But who's to say where exactly he is physically, you know, medically.
But even at his best, Newton's a very unique player and not for everyone.
I mean, he is so powerful and such a force of nature.
But he's not a super accurate quarterback, although I think he's improved in that area and he doesn't blend his bottom half of his body with his top half of his body real well.
But still, he throws the football extremely well and has great power and throw it all over the field and obviously makes a ton of play with his legs.
Although I expect that the lesson a little at this stage of his career.
I think he was unemployed this long because of the injury factor, but more than anything because the Corona virus situation, he just wasn't able to get into buildings and get checked out.
And if you're gonna invest in such a big name player, you need to get those things worked out.
But this works out really, really well, and we also have Bella checks.
The Bill Belichick's team is as adaptive as any team in the league.
So there was a Cube Q B.
You know, musical chairs that went on, and Cam was kind of a guy that just didn't quite find his chair.
But now I think he finds the perfect situation.
So I've heard arguments that Newton doesn't fit the Patriots offensive system as we've come to know it.
And that's mostly true.
Although I thought Newton improved as a short now run after the catch type quarterback with the last time we saw him.
I mentioned that the 2018 season in Carolina.
But you know what? Jared Stadium wasn't gonna reenact what Tom Brady has done all these years, either.
And surely the Patriots have made plans accordingly for life after Brady, where they've been doing the last couple months.
I'm sure they have a lot more design, quarterback running and more athleticism from that position, with a much less complicated offense.
First it, um, and that should really help Newton acclimated quickly.
The Patriots are already a very play action heavy team, but they lack that boot action element before, and Newton provides that.
And I think his ability as a runner and is a movement player will really pay off.
And something that Bill Bella check is private looking for and longing for at that position.
So coincidentally, and I was doing it NFL power rags yesterday, Sunday afternoon before I heard this news and I had the Patriots all the way down to 21 which was hard to stomach at the time.
But then they signed Newton and I moved to England up to 15th immediately.
And the more I think about it, maybe they should be much higher, to be very honest with you and if healthy again.
If healthy, Newton is the best quarterback in the A F C East right now, and while clearly behind Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, I think that Shawn Watts and it may be Ben Roethlisberger.
Newton is in contention at least as 1/4 or fifth quarter best quarterback in the A F.
So this is a great move and I think New England's really gonna reap the benefits.
I am at waves in with your bark
