Good afternoon, Sportscasts.
Welcome back to a very sweaty, humid gross afternoon here in Brooklyn.
Yeah, it's It's a real gross one today, I'm feeling, and I'm sweating myself right now, sweating over the Dallas Mavericks.
Yeah, here today.
Talk a little bit about a team that I think a lot of people aren't really discussing.
They haven't discussed a ton outside of Lucca Don Church, who was an M V P candidate this year.
Arguably, maybe Number three, I think, in the running.
Maybe Number four.
Um, you could make a case for him, Kwai.
A couple of other guys but Luca Dodgers been amazing this year.
He's been everything you could want and more from a second year player is actually having one of the best second year seasons ever, and the Dallas Mavericks are an interesting little seven seed.
Offensively, they've had one of the greatest seasons ever.
The speed and just overall style that Rick Carlisle has got them playing at has really emboldened these guys, and they're just right now.
Way, way, way ahead.
I think of expectations for what people wanted to see, and that's all without her stops for Zynga's their second star, a guy that they got from the New York Knicks a year ago in a trade deadline deal, a huge, huge deal that surprised a lot of people.
That's without him contributing much the first couple of months now.
Well, it really started to come together for them.
Once Luca Don Church missed a little bit of time with an ankle injury, Kristaps Porzingis found himself.
And then by the end of the year, they were starting to, so show a little bit of synergy.
So it's been a very it's been a typical year of a young team and that things are a little bit up and down, but they've been way, way, way ahead of schedule.
So here's the thing that I like about the Mavericks.
They're young, they play fast and they have an alignment with these two guys That is absolutely deadly in the pick and pop setting.
Keep in mind there without Dwight Powell, who's out with an Achilles injury, and Willie Cauley Stein just elected to sit out of the tournament so presumptively you're gonna be looking at a center rotation of Kristaps Porzingis up five, which I think is probably the best use of him.
I know it's a little bit tough on his fragile body, but I really like that for them.
And then they're also gonna be running Maxie Kluver, who is one of my favorite players.
Just like random roll guys, period.
A guy was very multi positional, one of the better multi positional centers in the league.
I really feel that way.
Ah, guy that can stretch out to three at, like, 38 to 40% and then just a guy who can take you off the dribble.
If you do close out to him hard Maxie Cleavers. Great.
He gives you a wonderful 20 minutes a game.
Um, so they're gonna be running a very interesting alignment with Luca Don Church.
They're gonna have these two guys that can pop, um, and and Lucas just such a crafty player and is someone that can get to the rim so so well for his age and get to the foul, you know, to the foul line.
Um, they're very dangerous.
I think that when you're looking at this Orlando tournament, you have to I I personally I'm keeping a couple of things in the back of my head, just sort of logging them away.
Just keeping all this in mind in case something were does happen.
So the first thing that I think is really important to think about is that a lot of teams were getting three months off now.
I mean, I don't know why.
Saying a lot, it seems every team is can take three months off effectively.
Um, that is a double edged sword.
So for some teams that actually maybe a really issue.
So for, like, the Lakers or the buck, especially the Lakers, who were playing out of their minds right before this whole thing came into to play with the suspension, That's a team that now, after you know they've got a one of the older players in the league is their best player in LeBron James.
He's a guy that kind of ramps up.
He gets himself not really into shape throughout the year, but he definitely gets a rhythm going throughout the year.
He now kind of has to start fresh the Bucks.
You could also make that case for their a team that you know, came out just like gangbusters this year and and really never showed any signs of slowing down.
Now, conversely, if you're a team like the Dallas Mavericks, who you have a little bit more of a fragile secondary star and you know just a team that's going to be playing a little bit of, ah, smaller brand of basketball maybe not actually in terms of stature, but in terms of physical in position, um, that may behoove them.
Now you only have two months of basketball.
Yes, it's around the clock for the 1st 8 games, but you know, you Onley really have to put together a good run for two months.
It's why I like teams like the Houston Rockets just because they're playing a brand of basketball that maybe wouldn't work through for, like, an 82 game plus playoffs, which really could put you all the way up up to 100 games.
You know, you're you're putting yourself more than 100 games, actually, but spending on pound upon how far you go, but you're in a different position now where you don't have that that build up that load.
It is slowly, you know, building up and ac***ulating.
Throughout the year, I I could personally get into a team like Dallas through.
That's the other thing that I'd like to keep in mind.
I don't know what type of shape guys we're gonna be in.
It seems like guys, some guys have lost a lot of weight.
You look like a heart inner Yokich.
Those guys are more slender, but in terms off, I think the conditioning will be pretty good because a lot of guys, it seems like just based on your from interviews and stuff.
Um, there's nothing better to do right now other than shoot around by yourself and go for a run.
So I think guys might be in good shape, condition wise, that I know that will depend a little bit.
But I do wonder if, like, strength training is going to be the thing that we're really gonna not see a ton of unless it's like somebody with a home gym.
Some of these guys just are not gonna be.
They're gonna be looking like me haven't lifted weights and however long.
So, um, so I think that would possibly, you know, be a an advantage for someone like Dallas.
Um, maybe defense's aren't as staunch.
Maybe you're looking at a situation where it is really just whoever scores more points.
And I know that sounds ridiculous.
Obviously, that's how you win a basketball game.
But really, it's going to be just a showing of offensive firepower.
This Mavericks team is his, like, looking at it numerically, one of the best offenses in history.
And maybe that's what wins out is that firepower is that ability to come out and put so many points on the board.
I like this team.
I think the very interesting you look at their roster.
I've already mentioned at Maxie Cleaver.
You've got Tim Hardaway Jr.
Who has been an excellent third banana for them.
You know, you have other guys Dorian Finney, Smith the lawn, right, Ah, bunch of God at the moment, which is a little bit of a shame for them.
But they have enough guys where they're all relatively young and they're gonna be there gonna be very pesky.
They're going to be very pesky in the playoffs.
I don't know if they're even gonna win around, necessarily After saying all of this and trying to hype them up, I just don't know.
But I will say like these guys, there's a world in which they could they could upset somebody.
Um, right now, I guess they would be playing the Clippers.
I don't know if I love that matchup for them necessarily.
But that's not a team that's like super physically imposing.
I'm not sure who they have to guard, you know, somebody like a wire, even a Paul George.
But, um, they'll be there will be a very interesting team.
Independent again, Just depends on think how things really shape out.
And, uh, if they can get the right match up.
I do think that there somebody that could could shock somebody a little bit.
Even the Clippers, like the Mavericks, might come out and win the 1st 2 games just because the Clippers air coming in a little bit fat, you know, expecting that they're gonna advance to the playoffs or to the finals, or at least the Western Conference finals.
Um, I could see it happening for the Mavericks.
I could, um, I like their general makeup.
Carlisle's an amazing coach.
He's proved that time and time again, he gets the most out of his guys, and, uh, maybe playing with Chris stops for Zynga's and Maxie Cleaver at center.
And just sticking with that because you have no no other options, no rim runners.
Nobody that's gonna be played out of a Siri's the way that I think a Willie Cauley Stein probably would.
You don't have any of those guys to worry about.
These guys are gonna be going all out.
All offense, and it could be a winning formula.
But that's all I have on this topic here.
Um, go check out, check out some other videos I've talked about.
I feel like I've almost talked about every single team in the league.
Now we're getting there.
Were almost sitting all 30.
Um, it seems like the only teams I haven't talked about are the ones that are gonna be watching this Orlando tournament like the rest of us.
So, yeah, go check out some of the other videos on my channel.
Go check out all my other guys.
