00:00:07
Hello, everybody. Good evening.
00:00:09
I hope I am not stuttering and going through this video.
00:00:13
It looks like it might have some network connection issues, but it's been a while since I've been on SportsCastr.
00:00:19
Um, I've been in the gym constantly training almost like a 9 to 5 schedule, so I'm really busy.
00:00:26
And the last time that I went on Sports Custer, I actually showed you guys one of my workout videos, some that I was doing my with my own and some that I was doing with the other girls that I have in the gym.
00:00:40
I'm currently in Wilmington, Delaware, at the 70 Sixers Fieldhouse owned by BP G Sports.
00:00:47
I'm wearing their shirt right now.
00:00:49
B P G Sports is a really nice company.
00:00:51
We have a great facility in Wilmington, Delaware.
00:00:54
So if you guys are in the area or close to it, I have kids that come from New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, obviously, Philadelphia even.
00:01:04
And I just want to give you guys some tips.
00:01:06
You know, not just treating, but any sports training that you're doing.
00:01:11
Especially this summer.
00:01:13
I think this summer is unique because we had a different change of events.
00:01:17
There's not a lot of summer team traveling teams going on.
00:01:21
There's no tournaments.
00:01:22
There's no exposure for kids to get college with brooding because there are no tournaments being held and there are no games being played.
00:01:30
But one thing that I have to offer is you don't need to rush into these tournaments.
00:01:35
You don't need to rush into trying to get on a team trying Teoh, you know, focus on travel basketball right now.
00:01:45
One reason is because a lot of coaches college coaches aren't really looking right now to add kids in a sense that really worried about, even if they're if they're basketball program and season is going to play in the winter season.
00:01:59
Um, so it's really important that you guys is kids and if you know kids that are going into eighth grader, middle school or trying out for their high school team that they need to start advancing to the next level there certain skills, certain development drills, certain footwork techniques and mechanics that a player must have when going to the next level.
00:02:22
And this is what college coaches look for.
00:02:24
If they see that a kid is not ready or has potential for the next level, then they're not going to recruit them on.
00:02:32
And it's not even about if they have the skill in that moment.
00:02:35
It's if that college coach sees potential and sees ambition in a player wants to learn, wants to get better.
00:02:43
And we'll put the time and commit the time and effort into training and getting better this summer, you should be grinding.
00:02:51
You should be working hard.
00:02:52
And it's not just, you know, going outside and shooting 30 shots or dribbling a couple times and know right, we're past that stage.
00:03:00
If you guys don't have access to a gym right now, please follow me on SportsCastr.
00:03:05
But more importantly, follow me on Facebook at Adriana Han, my instagram at Adriana Han, my Twitter 831 I finally built my own business basketball training called Han Hoops.
00:03:20
It is elite level training, and I post some videos of girls and such so that people who are out of state or aren't accessible to a gym right now they know what drills they have to develop, and they know the kind of work ethic that they need to do right Every day.
00:03:36
You should be committing to your sport at least an hour, Right? You don't have to go more than an hour if your golf heart in that full 60 minutes.
00:03:45
Um and you know, especially in this summer, you should try and be getting stronger, getting faster, getting quicker for your sport.
00:03:52
Um, you know, not only just focusing on your skills for that sport, but making sure that you're strong enough to play that next double that you're healthy, that your body can endure an entire winter season were false.
00:04:03
Spring season.
00:04:04
Wherever.
00:04:05
Whenever your sport is played during the years, I see that somebody common and said, Cross country is better.
00:04:12
You know, I tried to do the running thing.
00:04:14
I get pretty bored really often, and something that I can say is that basketball is a really horn sport to transition.
00:04:22
To write, I feel that I could run cross country.
00:04:26
I can play volleyball, get played lacrosse, which I have, um, played volleyball in the cross in high school.
00:04:33
And it was really kind of easy for me to be able to adapt into that new sports atmosphere because I had the skills from basketball like hand eye coordination, knowing how to pass to somebody in their targets in their target spot, knowing how to run the floor, run the field, open space.
00:04:52
I could see the play before it happened, and those are the qualities that I learned on a basketball court.
00:04:57
So, you know, I don't know if one sport is better than the other, but I will say that it is hard for, you know, cross country athletes, football players across players, you know, to really try and do that onto the basketball court.
00:05:09
There are certain basketball tangibles that can't be applied into another sport, and vice versa.
00:05:15
Another sport can't just be added onto the basketball court because there's so much emphasis and uniqueness and footwork, court awareness.
00:05:24
Basketball plays air super different than any sports place.
00:05:28
One thing I can say is that I used to play soccer at a really young age, and I think soccer was the most relative sport to basketball.
00:05:35
That taught me those same tangibles and taught me those same qualities.
00:05:39
Um, you know and I also want to point out in this summer training that, you know, 2020 has been a crazy here in the basketball world.
00:05:49
We lost Kobe Bryant and Jonah Bryant.
00:05:52
Very sad story, and I think that can relate to all athletes.
00:05:57
Um, if you choose to not get up on your couch or stop playing those video games or not going into the gym or the court or you know the field to get better at your sport, just think about Kobe Bryant and his daughter.
00:06:11
I think they have the opportunity right now.
00:06:13
I know for sure that they would not be saying no toe working out and getting better at basketball, and they don't even have the opportunity anymore.
00:06:21
And it's very awful to think about it in this way.
00:06:24
But maybe that will get you this summer to really get better.
00:06:30
And if you don't have confidence, if you don't have the work ethic, you know, think about other people's situations, right.
00:06:38
I think about help.
00:06:40
Great.
00:06:41
It is to be able to play into a gym right now, especially you guys take a trip to Wilmington, Delaware.
00:06:46
No matter how far away you are, I promise you I'll get you into a very nice Jim.
00:06:50
We'll do some really elite level basketball drills and get you ready for your winner season.
00:06:55
If you know you even are playing right, why wait until the winter basketball season? And I'm telling you, all these kids are working out, so you don't want to be that kid that returns to school for your season and not be ready amongst all the other kids because they've been training.
00:07:12
They've been working hard and they've been preparing themselves for this next level so you don't fall behind.
00:07:18
You don't want to sit back and always say why, or I'll do it tomorrow or I'll do it later today, right? There might not be a tomorrow, and they're not might not be an opportunity, especially with Corona happening right now.
00:07:30
So you know, you need to be, um, thankful for all of the opportunities.
00:07:36
And if there isn't an opportunity for you, go and try and create one you know you know DME on Instagram.
00:07:42
If you guys have any trouble with getting access to a basketball, getting access to a gym, not knowing how to develop certain skills like ball handling, foot quickness, agility and strength, even shooting technique, I can't tell you how many people and kids I see playing in a basketball game and they're missing 567 shots in a row.
00:08:03
Consistency is key.
00:08:05
You have to be able to shoot the basketball, especially if you want to get to that high level, right.
00:08:10
And, you know, I think shooting is a really strong technique that all basketball players should have one, because it's nothing hard to shoot a basketball the right way.
00:08:19
It's all about muscle memory, training, your body to do the same thing every time, right? It's who's actually putting in that work ethic and that consistent dedication toe have a really good jumper to be able to shoot long threes.
00:08:32
Go on YouTube and Google, My name Age. Arana Horn.
00:08:36
Go on Villanova woman's basketball Twitter and look at some old videos of my shooting and some of my games.
00:08:43
You know, I was very small player.
00:08:45
I was 56 I wasn't the most athletic kid, and a lot of people judge me and criticized me for that, and I didn't let that stop me or think that I couldn't play the next level.
00:08:55
I always send somebody to prove I always had something to play against, right, everybody doubted me on every level, whether that was fans, some of my teammates, even coaches, When I was trying to get recruited to colleges, they didn't think I could play it.
00:09:09
That next level, they didn't think I could play at their university or in their type of offensive system and program.
00:09:15
But, you know, I use that momentum to say, Hey, I'm gonna prove all these people wrong because I believe in my ability.
00:09:22
I believe in my talent and I also believe in my work ethic right.
00:09:26
I passed a lot of kids during my age because they didn't work as much as I did, or as far as I did.
00:09:34
I wasn't the best kid at the time.
00:09:36
I wasn't the best seventh grade.
00:09:37
I wasn't the best eighth grader, right, But eventually, as I moved on throughout the years, I started becoming the best at each and every level because everybody else was sitting back and being comfortable in their space and time.
00:09:49
You cannot be comfortable in any sport.
00:09:52
Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Michael Phelps, Football players.
00:09:57
You know, Um, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant.
00:10:01
They never were comfortable.
00:10:03
They always had the killer mentality to be the best, and it necessarily wasn't the best.
00:10:09
You know, I have to win every championship.
00:10:11
I had to get every ward.
00:10:12
It was the best within themselves.
00:10:14
First, I promise you that after a game right there, practice.
00:10:18
All of these great elite players who are now stars in their sports and will forever be a figure, always critiqued themselves.
00:10:27
They watched their film.
00:10:28
They look at their numbers and their statistics and say, Hey, I can get these numbers up.
00:10:31
I can improve this if I focused on these little things right for me.
00:10:36
When I was in college, I looked in my three point percentage.
00:10:39
First, I was about 35% than it once a 40% 43 44%.
00:10:45
And you know, I worked up to that.
00:10:47
My free throw percentage.
00:10:49
I made sure I was shooting 90% free throw percentage in my winter season again.
00:10:54
Also, turnover ratio.
00:10:56
I made sure that I was on Lee committing, maybe warn turn over a game and it really meant something to me when I did make a turnover right.
00:11:04
Nowadays, when I'm coaching women's basketball, we're seeing any sport kids think it's OK to have the ball stolen from you.
00:11:12
It's not okay.
00:11:13
Every athlete makes mistakes.
00:11:14
But what athlete is able to turn it around and make it better instantly, not sit on their mistakes, not dwell on it and also not show emotion? I cannot tell you how many kids I see that get so matter so upset and show their emotion and wear it on their face, and it actually distracts them, distracts their other teammates.
00:11:36
And it's not a good look from the outside looking in, especially when you go to that next level, right? College coaches are looking at your attitude and your body language.
00:11:45
You have to make sure that you can handle yourself and be accountable on whatever sport you're playing.
00:11:51
Field port the track, you know, cost country.
00:11:54
Even if you're running in the hills and nobody's watching you, right? Who are you and nobody is watching you.
00:11:59
More important, who are you when everybody's eyes are on you? Right? Let that sink in and don't change yourself.
00:12:07
Also, when we're young, we deal with a lot of little bull****, right? When when we're going and playing on some sports teams, we hear our teammates, maybe not liking us or hearing other parents wishing that their kids were playing more than us, Right? You run into all of those things.
00:12:23
When you're a little pit, you have to block it out right.
00:12:27
We can't let other people's opinions and perspectives affect you.
00:12:31
You have to give it your all 110% every time you step onto the report field, when nobody's watching and when everybody is watching, right, try and be that consistent player, both with your skills, your attitude and your work ethic, right? You should never let that change.
00:12:48
If you're having a bad day.
00:12:50
Boom, go fix it right away.
00:12:52
Don't sit and dwell on it. Change it immediately.
00:12:54
You don't want to be one of those players that I can't get past their own obstacles or their own adversity.
00:13:02
Push yourself right is long journey and whatever sports player sports team that you're playing with or against, or if you're at a school right and you're looking towards high school, you're looking ahead towards college.
00:13:16
It is a super long journey.
00:13:18
It is a very long journey.
00:13:19
There are ups and downs in this journey and there are more downs than ups.
00:13:23
Right? But the ups are so great that you want to get there, right? You don't want to sit on your downs.
00:13:30
You don't wanna, you know, dwell on it and not be better.
00:13:34
You have to work hard.
00:13:36
I would love for you guys.
00:13:37
You have any questions right now to ask me or any comments or anything that you want me to touch on any topics you want me to touch on right now? I'm a coach.
00:13:46
I coach 9 to 5 in the gym every day.
00:13:49
I have kids who could barely dribble the ball.
00:13:51
And I have kids who are right there getting college applications and getting college scholarships.
00:13:56
You have to put your yourself and I treat every kid the same.
00:14:00
Nothing changes, whether your baby and just started in the sports or you've been doing it for X amount of years and you're planning to get to that next level, right? It's all the same.
00:14:10
The mentality has to be the same.
00:14:12
When I was a kid, I looked forward to the WNBA.
00:14:16
I knew I was going to get a basketball scholarship.
00:14:18
Right set goals have aspirations and achieve them.
00:14:23
And if you don't make sure that you gave your all because I'm telling you if you gave your own every situation, you might have another goal or another aspiration or more ambition to do something else that never thought of four.
00:14:37
Because you never put your mind to the test, you have to push your body to a certain limit.
00:14:43
You have to get out of your comfort zone and push yourself, and it's hard to do that right.
00:14:48
It's really hard as a player when you don't have strong parents who are into the sport with you or a nice coach or trainer.
00:14:54
That's around you to push you right.
00:14:56
But eventually, that's not gonna be there for you at all times.
00:15:01
Thankfully, I had my dad as my basketball coach who pushed me every day after school, shooting constantly outside, shooting with a medicine ball, pounding it, trying to get my arm stronger, trying to get my handle tighter, quicker so that I didn't make turnovers in the game so that I was shooting at a consistent level.
00:15:20
Okay, so we're clone.
00:15:22
This summer is a great opportunity.
00:15:25
I just want you all to realize that if you are sitting on the couch playing video games for not doing something productive, that you should be doing something productive, right? I would love for you guys to also go on your phone and look at your screen sign.
00:15:47
If your social media is it more in five hours a week, that's a problem.
00:15:56
Okay, mine is about 4.
00:15:57
5 5 hours.
00:15:59
That means I dedicate, you know, about 45 minutes to an hour a day.
00:16:04
I seen kids that I trained, whose tic tac hours alone for the week is about six hours.
00:16:11
Just tic tac alone, which means their social media hours are about 10 to 12 hours a week.
00:16:18
All that tells me is that they're born.
00:16:21
They don't want to do something productive.
00:16:23
They don't want to do something physically active, because for me, I'm physically active.
00:16:29
I don't even have trying from my mind to be on social media, right, because there's nothing productive out of that.
00:16:35
And, you know, I have 100,000 followers on instagram, right? I built that verified, and you could say Oh, you know, when you have to commit a lot of time and what It's a game, those numbers and do that, Yes, but at the same time, I was still achieving my goals.
00:16:50
I was very successful in my basketball career, and I never let Social media be a distraction.
00:16:55
And throughout my long journey that I had with it, I realized that I didn't need to rely that much on social media.
00:17:04
I didn't have to commit as much time as I did on social media because what I was putting into the gym and my work ethic was actually was making me successful in life and getting into different places and helping me meet new people, right? I'm telling you, playing a sport and being successful at it and working hard before you're successful can lead you to more places in life than trying to become Tic tac Famous Trying to become Instagram famous Were you two famous right kids Nowadays you'll sit in your house and think, What can I do? Funny today? That might go viral for what new thing can I create that micro viable right? Don't ever sit on that because guess what? It's never going to happen.
00:17:49
If I would have thought Oh, you know, how can I get to the W N B A or How can I get my college scholarship and thought about other reasons or differences into how I can get that I would have never committed X amount of hours in the gym or push myself to those limits.
00:18:06
That is why I got all of those things.
00:18:09
And that is why basketball today continues to give me all of these opportunities and outlets in life.
00:18:16
I played more basketball now than I did when I was a child or a kid growing up granite.
00:18:21
It's different types of basketball, but I'm in the gym longer hours.
00:18:25
I'm constantly training constantly, teaching kids that the skills and drills that I was taught in order to get to that next level.
00:18:34
So you know, if you don't have access to things if you don't have a resource, is if you don't have a basketball.
00:18:42
If you don't have a coach showing your drills right and you are on social media, at least go on YouTube and Google or watch professional athletes and how they train Google best ball handling drills so that you can go and do that and then be productive out in the world.
00:18:59
Social media is great for networking.
00:19:01
It's great for meeting new people is great for learning new information, right? But it's how you use it.
00:19:07
Do we learn new information on tick top? Do we learn new information on Instagram? No, we just see those famous people who started doing these famous dances and everybody's trying to do it.
00:19:21
Yes, it's fun.
00:19:22
Yes, I have a tic tac.
00:19:24
Yes, but I am not on it every day.
00:19:27
I am not looking to advance my career.
00:19:31
There's social media by trying to create a viral video or a viral picture.
00:19:36
Right? That might just happen naturally with the things that I'm doing outside in the world that I might post on social media To show my network of resource is and people who are following me, I want to connect with everyone.
00:19:49
I want to give my influence to everyone.
00:19:52
And most importantly, I want to push you guys.
00:19:55
Okay, Push yourselves.
00:19:56
If you're sitting on your couch all day playing video games, fortnight going on tic tac, right, and you can't even get up and put some shoes on and go outside we have serious issues, okay? And when you get older, the real world is gonna smack you in the face if you don't prepare for it.
00:20:14
Now, I'm just telling you that from my experience, that's real advice.
00:20:19
Um, And granted, there are times when I was a kid that I didn't want to go shoot or didn't want to get up out of bed and go work on my game, right? You want to go to the beach with your friends? You want to go out to eat? You want to play video games, right? But organize your schedule and don't just commit to social media or don't sit on accepting to not work hard.
00:20:43
Everybody in this world has to work hard whether they're famous on tic tac famous on instagram, right? It's not all what you believe.
00:20:52
So be yourself and find your ambition and achieve your goals.
00:20:56
Thank you guys for tuning in.
00:20:58
I'm so glad you listened.
00:21:00
Ah, day.
00:21:03
But tomorrow I will record a workout video for you all so that you can understand what I'm doing, how hard I'm working and also see the types of girls that I'm doing to get better fastball and to show my kids how to get better at basketball.
00:21:16
Thank you so much And have a good night, guys.
