00:00:05
and with that welcome in friends on a Friday evening to.
00:00:09
But we got Nets Channel right here on SportsCastr and your official affiliate for all things Brooklyn Nets Basketball becomes you once again with what is the re occurring show for us now, the Friday three.
00:00:23
We will take a look at three big topics for the Brooklyn Nets and just dive in a little bit deeper this week.
00:00:29
I am flying solo, no Doug Nori by my side, and that's okay because we still get to have some fun and have some great conversations now.
00:00:37
There isn't as much exciting information as we may want coming around this, but it doesn't mean that there are still some things that touch on.
00:00:45
We know that coming off a last week.
00:00:47
Kyrie Irving Topic number three Counting our way down.
00:00:52
Ah, Kyrie Irving took a little bit of flak last week after getting off that players conference Coal, where among a lot of different things, suggest that idea of starting his own leak.
00:01:02
We covered this a bit on the podcast is, well, signori and myself.
00:01:07
We're basically when you take a look at it, it feels like something that is very much just a part of a conversation, not necessarily someone sticking his feet into the ground and saying that this needs to be the way that we go.
00:01:23
By the way, there's a couple of pieces that come out from this one.
00:01:27
Essentially, this is supposed to be one of one of the values of this.
00:01:33
Kyrie Irving is the vice president for the players.
00:01:36
So these conversations were supposed to be an opportunity for other players players that whose voices may not carry as much weight to express themselves to Kyrie Irving and to maybe have some open conversation and dialogue.
00:01:49
It's not supposed to be where those conversations get leaked out, or where the press is able to kind of pick little tiny snippets out of it and then extrapolated.
00:01:57
So there's been some reports to the Kyrie, just kind of feels like he's getting scapegoated around this.
00:02:02
Now you can say what you want about Kyrie, his personality and maybe if that lends itself to the media and two other players kind of jumping on him about these things, but I But I get it right.
00:02:14
This is supposed to be a private conversation with a group of players, and it ends up being something that becomes public forum fodder for whoever wants to Teoh comment on it Now.
00:02:26
Beyond that, though, one of the other things that I also pulled out of this don't want to make sure that I get some of this information right was you're talking about a Mari Stottlemeyer.
00:02:36
Um, the idea that this is not necessarily these thoughts around starting our own league and again not to give over credence to what Kyrie was talking about, but that these are conversations that all kinds of players have had on.
00:02:50
I wanted to take a look here if I can get the right quote.
00:02:53
Ah, to see if Stottlemeyer expands on in a more specific way.
00:02:58
Ah, but Irving again, Teoh encapsulate for the conversation had their excuse me as I try to just gather these thoughts here, the idea of players getting out of their current contracts, finding financial backers, landing TV deals and doing all other kinds of work that would be required in order to start a new basketball league to compete with the Building Dollar enterprises, the MBA right? That's the elements of it that people are grabbing and say, How far fetched does it have to be to be putting that type of conversation out? But Stottlemeyer, to his to that end, is I'm just saying that players talk about this stuff, whether it's on the practice court or whether it's in between games during the off season.
00:03:34
Just the idea of Wouldn't it be great? 2 may be able to start our own league so that we, the players, could control how we want things to be organized, how we want the season to be structured.
00:03:46
What we want.
00:03:47
Contracts toe look like how we want revenue sharing to be broken down, right? These are things that you or I might talk about within our own jobs.
00:03:55
What we say, man.
00:03:56
It wouldn't it be great if I could dictate terms to to the league, to the office, to the corporation that I'm a part of so that I could get the most benefits out of it.
00:04:05
And that's essentially where I think Kyra is getting labeled as the originator of this thought, even though it's something everyone's kicked around.
00:04:14
So stumbling, rumbling, fumbling as ah, as one commentator on sports SportsCenter might say uh, in regards to football, but that that that's quits.
00:04:26
Topic number three, Topic number two and one that interests me a little bit more, not physically because of the person.
00:04:32
But Kendrick Perkins really went out of his way to tear into Kyrie Irving.
00:04:36
And there have been other some other detractors around it as well when this news initially broke, but again, a couple of things here, obviously, and everyone seems to report there's something else behind the scenes that Perkins has an issue with Kyrie or possibly has an issue with K D as well.
00:04:52
And this was just a great opportunity for him to really go in on him.
00:04:55
There's also this idea as you seen Wilson Chandler.
00:04:58
You've seen Garrett Temple.
00:04:59
You seen K.
00:05:00
D all come out both in response to the idea of what was getting set in these cold and saying, Listen, it's all much of nonsense.
00:05:08
And then even a step further when it comes to the Kendrick Perkins comments around Kyrie Irving and saying, Boy, you know, all of a sudden you flip the script and you're on the other side of this.
00:05:17
You're no longer a player, you know you're a member of the media and it feels like you're just going to take every bit of the bite of the apple that you can beyond that as well.
00:05:27
Kendrick Perkins tease of other things Other information get into.
00:05:31
But he was playing nice and going light on Ah Kyrie.
00:05:35
I believe it was Wilson, Chandler said.
00:05:37
Don't go ahead. You got something to say, say it.
00:05:39
The thing that I like about that is call it out right.
00:05:43
It's very easy to sit back and have your comments around someone around a thought around a notion and then back it up with something, though.
00:05:52
Say it's explain why you take such an issue with a player or an individual, By the way coming out and expressing a thought process around something having a unique perspective, Why does it have to be reactionary piece? And I know that that's, you know, a rhetorical question in the sense that the media is there to react and to overreacted these things.
00:06:13
We know how popular some of the main networks can be with their showcasing that every single morning, right, taking a soundbite, taking a clip and just blowing it up and creating some type of story where maybe there really isn't a whole lot to digest there.
00:06:28
And that feels a lot of like what went on here.
00:06:30
And it also feels a lot of like Kendrick Perkins had the advantage of being a former player.
00:06:35
So he's going to be the person that networks go to, whether it's on his person, network or other platforms.
00:06:40
And they're going to say, What's your insight on Kyrie? What's your take away as a former player and instead of And this is his choice, I guess.
00:06:48
But instead of maybe playing it down the middle and just saying, Well, you know, it's a conversation that was had Now I personally think it's It's a crazy idea.
00:06:55
I wouldn't like it.
00:06:57
Instead, it almost swung in the end of personal attacks.
00:06:59
And that's just something that I'm not terribly big fan of.
00:07:02
Um, I'm not good.
00:07:03
I'm not going to give Kendrick Perkins the same type of treatment, but I will say I I heard him speak on other topics.
00:07:11
Sometimes I find him to be insightful.
00:07:13
Other times it feels like it's more predicated on how he feels about a player or a team and individual personally unless maybe about the topic at hand or trying to bring something to the conversation as opposed to solely to track from it.
00:07:28
That's the second topic that we're covering here today.
00:07:31
The third and final one is team chemistry, and the reason why we go team chemistry is what I highlighted there briefly.
00:07:37
Wilson, Chandler, Kevin Durant, Garrett Temple, I think Spencer Daily.
00:07:42
You know, Caris, Levert as well.
00:07:44
All these guys came out in the corner of Kyrie Irving.
00:07:47
And you can say, Well, what do you expect him to do? There is teammate.
00:07:51
They need to do that.
00:07:52
They don't have to and we've seen this before.
00:07:54
We've seen this, you know, in other sports, other athletes, other celebrities in the spotlight.
00:08:00
Everyone does not immediately jump to the defence of someone if they feel like they've taken a misstep.
00:08:05
If they feel like they've gone outside of their arena and really put themselves on a limb, they kind of say, Listen, this is for you to defend yourself against instead, by and large, after a players only conference coal where it seemed like again, everyone was openly expressing themselves back end of it comes out.
00:08:24
Kyrie Irving gets labeled as the originator of all of these ideas and thoughts and attractions, from restarting and the bubble and all that kind of stuff.
00:08:32
And it just seems like you're getting the sense, especially from teammates off.
00:08:35
No, it was a conversation.
00:08:37
He is the vice president.
00:08:38
We were expressing to him these thoughts, and he was sharing ideas as well.
00:08:43
But there's nothing more to it than that, on top of which, I always find it interesting when you think about former players.
00:08:49
And again this goes to that Kendrick Perkins point of what was the reaction towards him? We've heard this before that the players have had issues with him, both during his playing career and then even in his post playing career.
00:09:01
So I like that element of it.
00:09:03
I like the galvanizing nature of what all of the Nets teammates air doing, regardless of who it is, regardless of what the topic is.
00:09:11
It's just nice to see that even after this been a three month lay off.
00:09:15
And even though Kyrie KD aren't gonna be a part of this, you've seen it all the way through the 10 year, right when the reports came out early in Kyrie Irving's time on the Brooklyn Nets and saying, Boy, the locker room, he's stirring it up.
00:09:26
He's dividing some of the players Spencer Dinwiddie, caress labor.
00:09:30
Jared Allen, All these guys, when I asked, he said, No, everything's fine in a locker, but I don't know what you're looking at here, but it doesn't exist now.
00:09:38
The reality is, is that Kyrie has had in his past in the situation in Cleveland when he want to move on from there.
00:09:45
He did express that he would resign with Boston and then chose not to.
00:09:50
Now you can say that maybe especially, say, Boston.
00:09:53
For the example, you can say it was a poor choice to come out and commit to it.
00:09:57
Say that, you know, I want to come back here and re sign and then she was not because put yourself in a hard spot, anything but re signing with Boston was going to have a bad look to it, but everybody but people change their mind right and as an individual everyone thinks that he is an intelligent individual, that he's thoughtful, that he is interested in things beyond basketball, that he thinks about his post playing career and that from just my dialogue standpoint, players and people like to engage with him and have conversations with them.
00:10:26
So you don't listen.
00:10:28
If you want to take away some of the positives from this situation from Kyrie Irving being in the news cycle again, I will say that it doesn't seem like anybody on the net side of things is looking at it and saying Boy, I wish he hadn't said that or even just omitting from speaking about it when asked.
00:10:45
Everyone is speaking highly Kyrie.
00:10:47
Everyone's coming to his defense on it and by the way, I think the reason why you're seeing it hearing that is because whether really what it really tells you is other players have had these conversations.
00:10:57
Other players have expressed concerns about the restart.
00:10:59
This regard, the other league thing about the restart, about the social, about the social movement that's going on right now and about keeping attention on it.
00:11:07
There's nothing wrong with and this goes to that piece again.
00:11:10
Excuse me as I but my set up here a little bit, there's nothing wrong with saying we're going to be restarting in the time since the league stopped and Cove in 19 was happening.
00:11:22
Other things have also come up in our society and our culture.
00:11:26
Let's just check in with one another here.
00:11:28
Is this definitely the way that we want to go? Is this the best use of our time? Now you may come to the conclusion that yes, it is.
00:11:35
We're gonna get down to Orlando.
00:11:36
We're gonna start playing games.
00:11:37
We're going to take advantage of that opportunity with a spotlight on the N b A.
00:11:43
To bring additional attention to the issues that are important to us.
00:11:46
And that's the best avenue for us.
00:11:48
Okay, great.
00:11:49
But there's nothing wrong with asking the question.
00:11:51
Is this the best way to go and you're knocking around, right? I asked question.
00:11:57
I ask questions of signori on the podcast.
00:12:00
Before we go to do a show, I ask questions of my girlfriend.
00:12:03
I asked questions of my family or friends to say, Hey, I was having this thought.
00:12:08
Let's go ahead and walk this thing out.
00:12:10
And sometimes maybe Kyrie does that in a public way.
00:12:12
Or sometimes those things become public.
00:12:14
And then it's easy to pick it apart, but I don't think there's anything wrong with scratching that itch just to make sure.
00:12:20
Even if you're not coming the same conclusion, it doesn't hurt to check in.
00:12:24
So that's a big proponent of it for me as well.
00:12:27
When you think about this idea of the N B A getting back on and players being willing to talk and have these type of conversations, this was a loose Friday three all saying there wasn't a lot to dive in on this new cycle.
00:12:40
But on the back end of it here, the one thing that I did want to mention as you may have noticed this broadcast came in saying this was a scheduled broadcast that was going to be starting at 8 30 Tonight is a brand new scheduling feature right here on SportsCastr, and it's one, and I'm gonna be taking advantage off both here on the Wiegand Nets Channel as well as the one giant podcast channel is well covering the New York football giants.
00:13:04
So in that vein, after I get off here this evening, before we get through the weekend, what will be coming up for us and it's gonna be an opportunity for me.
00:13:13
I just did it over on my SportsCastr News Channel under Adam Arm Brecht, taking a look at the N B A to case simulation channel of the SportsCastr has running, trying to get some might play by play wraps up and running again.
00:13:28
So going forward next week on Monday, June 20 seconds, there's going to be asked.
00:13:35
Covers it on Yes, so one day later Excuse me on Tuesday, June 23rd 10 a.
00:13:40
m.
00:13:41
They're going to be replaying the Nets versus Bulls game from November 16th this past year, And if you want to go ahead and come in here, that's gonna get scheduled up.
00:13:51
You can join me for a look back at that, a play by play recall.
00:13:55
I'll go ahead and approach it as if it is a fresh game, so it could be new and exciting for us if you don't know what the game was.
00:14:02
If you don't know what the Al Como's we can enjoy together, and then I'll also take a look at some things that I do have the advantage of hindsight and think about some stat lines that might be pertinent what happened in the games leading up to this and then also what happened in the games that followed.
00:14:17
So there'll be a little bit of fun there that we can do.
00:14:19
I'm gonna try to blend some of that live play by play style action that I've been doing here back when the season was on.
00:14:25
And then I'll be gearing back up to resume starting at the end of July when the MBA gets back and going.
00:14:31
But until then, I'm gonna have some fun here going to enjoy taking a look back at some of these.
00:14:36
Quote past season classics underneath the Nets.
00:14:38
So Tuesday 10 a.
00:14:40
m.
00:14:41
You can check out that Nets Bulls coverage that I'll be doing.
00:14:43
Then you're also going to get an opportunity.
00:14:46
Will take a look here June 15th.
00:14:48
They're going to be running a deep cut at 4 30 PM That's over on MBA TV, and that's going to be the Spurs Nets game from 2003.
00:14:58
So I may try to take a look at that one as well, so that will be a classic throwback episode that we can see as well and then once again.
00:15:05
If we want to take a look one more time on Wednesday the 24th you're going to get an opportunity for the Lakers versus the Nets back from 2001.
00:15:16
That one's broadcasting on the yes network so you can watch it live there.
00:15:19
You can also listen to me, and that's gonna be a great opportunity.
00:15:23
The more recent ones, the more familiar one that we mentioned there against the Bulls.
00:15:26
That's gonna be kind of something everyone remembers pretty recently.
00:15:30
But one of these deep dives when you talk about Lakers and Nets from 2001 roster galore, we're going back to the heyday.
00:15:38
We're going to be talking about some of those old Nets that were there.
00:15:41
Where were they? In the standings? Where were the Lakers? What were the implications of this game in that season for both squads, etcetera, etcetera rate on down a lot, so that's gonna be a lot of fun.
00:15:52
Those were you get geared up here, they will be scheduled out.
00:15:54
You can join in with me on that action.
00:15:56
If you have questions that you want to prepare for them, feel free to fire those off to me as well, whether it's on social media and I'll try to find a way that we can get those things kind of lined up.
00:16:07
What I'd like to do as well is take a look and maybe getting some live coal action.
00:16:11
And especially on those throwback games from what is now almost 20 years ago, we talked about going back to 2001 because it be a lot of fun to have a little bit of open conversation as we watch those games do some lighter play by play.
00:16:25
And then maybe just some, you know, some fun talk around where those players were at those points of their career, what it's like to see some of those guys in their heyday, in their primes, and again, where both franchises were going and what those seasons we're gonna look like for some of those stars.
00:16:41
What well, contract talks were happening all those things in and around the game, so we'll call those.
00:16:45
The deep cuts will get those scheduled out.
00:16:47
You'll see them up on my feet so you'll know that they're coming. Please prepare.
00:16:51
Get ready.
00:16:52
Check in with us as we continue to build things out in a SportsCastr continues to develop all these new great features.
00:16:58
You can be sure that I'll be trying to take advantage of them right here on the We got Nets Channel.
00:17:03
That'll do a force year on the Friday three.
00:17:05
We thank you for checking in with those briefly I know wasn't the most exciting conversation.
00:17:10
We will continue to develop this segment here so that it gets a little bit deeper.
00:17:14
And if there isn't something as interesting in the current news cycle, maybe we'll try to dive back a little bit deeper like we did with Doug last week.
00:17:22
You can follow us on social media.
00:17:23
We got Nets head over to iTunes Spotify wherever you download your podcasts rate reviewing, subscribe will continue to be bringing you now kind of ramping up multiple podcast episodes a week.

00:17:33
And then, of course, keep looking back here on the channel.
00:17:36
As the schedule content the mid week run down, all those things are going to start to become regimented for you.
00:17:42
So, you know, right where to check in for all your Brooklyn Nets coverage.
00:17:46
As always, I have been Adam arm breaks.
00:17:48
I give Ah, brief tip of the hat to Michael to We got 678 down there to Steph.
00:17:55
