Not only is the jail that we're gonna be talking about, where the weirdest day in sports and we're gonna accept towards Castor.
Hello, sportscast were to be Tony about the weirdest day in sports June 17th 1994.
I only have about 10 minutes, so I only I'm gonna keep this short, sweet and to the point, Jews have the teeth 1994.
Start off with an interesting day.
It was a party day for New York as New York City.
New that today they would boat, they would have not only the New York Rangers Day parade.
Ah, Stanley Cup break.
They would also have none other than the greatest than the then the Game five of the NBA Finals.
And so there were legs and waiting.
Goal fans were really, really, really excited.
And they were trying to get out of Plum, Pennsylvania, to go check out to see because it looked like, um, Arnold Palmer's final day ever as a goal for at the US Open.
And so let's open the day, June 17th the year 1994.
The first of that.
This is not in order with my actual, um, with my actual.
Uh, what site? Because I'm posting this Tau Wai website.
I did this, you know, Just does, like, a little stream, but, you know, 26 years ago, So I did this strange just to, you know, make sure that I could do it.
You know, I'll be.
And so the first thing that happened, New York Rangers prayed.
So the New York Rangers, ladies and gentlemen, one of the greatest teams in the nineties, 1994.
They won the Stanley Cup finals.
They the parade was insane.
It was not like, I think half of New York turned up may not have a New York City, but half of New York and possibly like Connecticut and Rhode Island.
All the fans for, you know, like the from around and they went nuts.
They were going nuts because they had just won.
And they were so happy at the parade.
America's mayor and, at the time, New York's mayor, Rudy Giuliani.
Yes, the president's attorney.
Um, was I think former attorney this Trumps told radio um, Rudy Giuliani spoke a great speech.
He had a great speech and he at the end said go Knicks.
Let's get him next.
Let's get him tonight.
And because the next at the Madison Square Garden in New York would be playing the Rockets Game 5 1994 NBA Finals If I'm Look, if you want around looking at, I'm looking at my, uh, my thing.
I can read a direct quote for what I wrote for this, understand is Stanley Cup Parade.
New York Rangers won the 1994 Stanley Cup finals, prayed with one of the biggest America's mayor and, at the time, New York's mayor to Rudy Giuliani spoke a great speech New York partying until later that night because obviously they stopped partying to sit down and watch the Mass and score.
Garden game makes verse rocket so it's head to nix.
Well, it's not really formal to talk about the next verses Rockets, because you really can't talk about the next verse Rockets until you actually have a real thing.
So let's have a plum Pennsylvania.
I open a country club where the 1994 US eligibles health or a Palmer in the second round.
Arnold Palmer and A You won that round and walking down the walking down uh, the final.
Walking down the 18th he received a standing ovation.
It left them in tears because he know he knew that he was leaving the sport he loved, and he knew that he was leaving the German.
He loved Ordell.
Polar was a great dude and he had to retire.
And I mean, he let me read something that I found from the from the Los Angeles Times.
Yet it's called the articles called Parmer Palmer Final Oak, and leaves him in tears.
Gulf crowd gives ah, uh, Palmer a two minute ovation after he is assured of missing the cut.
Was that he second round 81? Let's see what he said when he was asked what had been the most fun.
He said, Oh, I think, as I said many times recently, the whole experience.
I suppose the most important thing is the fact that it has been as good as it has been to me.
He had, he said, that he later said that year that hey had to leave.
He said that that ovation chilled me.
Um and I mean this is nuts and I I I think that was great.
I order pull her will forever be the greatest golfer to ever walk this earth.
And, um, next dude, uh, you know, if Bagger Vance was living at the same time as as Arnold Palmer, they teamed up it probably or a problem.
ER would have, like, 15 major 50 majors, but are are apart.
Didn't need Bagger fans here.
He was good as he waas and would see.
Okay, let's have a Los Angeles.
My dad was there in Los Angeles, on the state.
Er, no, Excuse me.
Let's head to Chicago.
Let's have a soldier field where the United States was welcoming their first World Cup.
United States ended up Ah, doing a great were hosting the World Cup that year.
So we were just, you know, chilling out, getting ready, relaxing, getting, you know, getting ready to do our do our thing.
And so he So they start and woke up nuts, and they do the opening ceremony and everything.
And I mean, you know, from Soldier Field.
And I'm pretty sure the president came in spokes.
They watched the soccer, I think, was Germany played against.
Played that day.
I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, let me check.
It was the 1st 1 cut to the U.
Next thing, let's head to Los Angeles.
Where isn't against as you know where as you know where what has happened was headed to not let's head to the 1994.
It's in the Los Angeles for my dad was down there.
And Dad, if you were watching Thank you. You're not.
My dad was in Los Angeles.
He remembers this.
I may be able to bring him on later about the O. J. Simpson chase.
Simpson had been ah suspect in the murder of Nicole Brown, says Simpson and, uh, Mom, it's part of the day.
So I have to talk about this.
And, um, What's the other dudes name? I can't remember.
What was the other news name to do? That was like dating the cool brown.
What was his name? Ron.
It's honest of my come.
Okay, so he murder.
He did not was never charged.
Yeah, but he was proclaimed innocent later.
What? Mom, He was proclaimed innocents.
He was never charged.
Um and so no o J was never charged.
He went to jail for robbing someone in minor assault and battery or something later.
Okay, soldier, since I'm lazy neurons, um was in this car white Bronco, white Bronco and a bunch of police were going o j from he was standing there with I'm pretty sure colors from the U. S.
Really his first name, if I can't remember.
But his last name the colors, I'm pretty sure.
And he was driving the car and he said he when he called in the police station, they were they thought they don't do is in there.
He he clarified the O.
J was in there and that they were driving to the house of O.
J Is mom to, you know, say goodnight.
Say goodbye before he, you know, went on to trial And they said that O.
J had a gun and that he had it literally pointed to his head and he was ready.
Dino blow his brains out.
You know, they ended up talking him down from it.
O j ended up, you know, they got to the house.
O j said goodbye And he was, you know, put on trial.
He was found innocent.
Never charged later.
O J Actually, O.
J is a free man right now, but O J final on O. J.
The greatest running backs and close before history.
Probably the greatest USC Trojan in football history.
Probably the greatest football player from around here.
He actually grew up in San Francisco.
Um, he actually my Nana taught at the school, Not during the time that O.
J was there, but O J o J was o.
J was, you know, before him.
But he ended up like ocean teaching there about a year after Andrzej last just missed him.
And so Bob Costas was covering the 1994 n b A Finals Game five.
This was gonna be one of my questions.
I asked him if I ever if I thought the saying with him if I got the meeting and it was gonna be what was going through your mind when on the fact that he was broadcasting for NBC at that time and he was having to work with the head of NBC News because they were both, like, talking about, um, you know the O.
J Chase Will the 1994 n b a finals game was, you know, about to start and so tipped off Game five at the Madison Square Garden. Nixon the Rockets.
Let me check the score.
I can't remember.
Uh, see, right, I'm trying to do something.
The New York Knicks ended up winning 91 to 84 abandoned out, going up 3 to 2 in the series.
But the Rockets were able to fight him off and win Couch of the 1994 n b A Finals.
And, uh, you know, when the series and when the series, you know, is huge for the rockets to win the series.
Hakeem Elijah one and all them holding people, you know, there at the 1994.
Um, I just have some privacy to do.
Jeez, I'm sorry.
Ladies and gentlemen, I may not look very professional, but I'm still trying to keep that thing for you know, it's annoying that my parents keep, like, yelling at me or my parents are yelling at me with my sister and my mom has to be my mom.
I still athlete. She's a parent all the time.
But so let's head to the final thing that was happening.
And, um, the final thing that happened during that day was Ken Griffey hitting his 30th home run before he tying the most home verse before tea and thirties.
I don't think he had his 30th but he hit most homers, and it was 1990 four.
It was, uh, at the Kansas City Royals.
Um, and they ended up winning. I'm pretty sure.
Five, The one they, uh they go, they went 28 37 after that game, Can Griffey hit a home run, and that was nuts.
And, you know, so it was gonna be interesting, But thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for watching, um, final on.
And, you know, that was pretty much it.
Thank you for joining.
Have a great day
