ladies in jail would welcome back to summer of sports.
We're gonna be able to release the film way we're gonna have Teoh.
We're gonna be doing the Ryan Abraham at the showed now, Right? Neymar, Harry Styles the USC football dot com peristyle podcast.
But now let me go get the phone.
We're gonna dial him.
All plays in gentlemen, we will get you.
Yeah, E I understand.
He's there we go.
Isn't job in Ryan Abraham Park.
Ah, USC peristyle podcast says the football hairstyle podcast, Of course.
Um, here we owe please and Joan were dialing him up.
This could be raw.
So I don't have any questions. You're on out yet.
Is this Ryan Abraham? Yeah.
Ah, this is Hugo.
Good. How are you? Okay.
Should we start the interview? It's gonna be just like fraud to 10 questions.
Okay, First question.
What do you think about the changes in the athletic department at USC? Well, if you go, I think that really made some positive changes.
There was just too long at USC where they had people heading up the department running athletic department that were more of the figurehead.
They were the famous USC football players, like a pack age in there with Juan or even my carrot before him.
Mike did work and athletic department.
I just make that strategy backfired, and they needed to go out and get somebody running at other compartment somewhere else and had ideas, has something to do and then tools in their toolbox that could bring to the table and fix some of the problems that USC yeah, look from it has.
And I think getting my phone from Cincinnati, yes, packed, full of experience.
It's working out really well so far.
I think there's a lot of problems that they need to fix, but so far they've been making really good progress.
So I think for a while you feel like the U.
S yet break department actually going in the right direction.
What got you in the U. S.
So I went to undergrad at USC, moving up from the East Coast that I wasn engineers.
Teoh got my master my undergrad masters degree in electrical engineering and then got a job locally in Los Angeles on a defense contractor, and they pay for my mouth history So I did that, too.
And while I was doing that, I kind of started a website online in 1996.
Early Internet stuff and I just got really into. I love football.
I had some humor to it, and I just created this website and started to grow, get bigger and bigger.
And then, um, from there, I just, you know, in 2000 for an acquittal engineering job and doing this full time.
But I got a USC football by becoming an undergrad student at U. S. C.
I was just, you know, the thing to do when you're in school and moving from the East Coast.
We have a whole lot of cultural ball in New England.
College will tell that great, but I didn't really step back then, but yeah, USC football, though in all that tradition and you can get when you go to school there they kind of beating your brains about USC football with the band and the song Girls.
Now let's it started when I started freshman. Your call.
What are your thoughts about Keaton? Slow.
Listen, what the 2020 U. S.
Football team could do a huge Slovis is.
That was a surprise to me when he came in.
A three star recruit out of Arizona was one of the gap quarterbacks.
Usually you get like a five star quarterback one year, and then you get like, a three or four, so you don't expect to start.
You need him on the roster the next year.
He was one of those guys that comes in, you know, he wins the number two job, back up job, the day ticket.
Jakey Daniels, which is surprised a lot of people.
But you had some fresh eyes again, like me department.
You have brand Harold come in.
And he took a fresh look at everybody really liked what he saw from Key.
So he was consistent from the beginning.
Hey, I like to look a lot and we didn't really believe it when he became the backup quarterback, and it made Jack Sears transfer out.
Not think, almost transfer down.
You came back, but keep it slow has proved everyone wrong.
When you got in there and you got in the game and you get 4 400 games is the most efficient, like in the country and history like It's just crazy what he was able to do.
And I think with, you know, year to in the grand handle, often fish making big strides.
They got so much talent returning and kids over with a year under his belt really was thrust into the starting role.
And just, you know, you just kind of cut his wind.
It caught the wind and just kept rolling with it.
Now he had a whole opposition to prepare.
Now, obviously, you can't prepare a month because of the code stuff, but at least mentally be ready to come in as the starting quarterback.
As everyone knows, you're the starting quarterback.
Especially now that JP.
So I think the sky's the limit.
You go with this us the offense.
Avis Really good last.
You're so much better than the previous couple years.
And I think with the running back coming back and everyone basically Michael Pittman, there could be some issues with the offensive line.
Listen, your two tackles Jackson and Joe Richman, but I like a little my life.
Spare Tucker moving out there, I think with Clovis running this offense taking score, you know, 35 points a game and really just let the past like the passport Fire.
Uh, any thoughts? Because clay health is, I know has been on the hot seat for the past two seasons and the thoughts of any other coaches that could come in and end up coaching like Graham Harrell or someone like an urban Meyer.
You go like the last couple of years, she's been on the hot seat.
But wouldn't the hot be really? It's kind of created by fans and the media, according to U.
C. It just didn't too much iwas and they just didn't have any.
Uh, that wasn't part of their thought process to get rid of play out.
But I do think if you have a season that's not very good, that there's definitely some options there available to the athletic department now that may be worth available.
Before he was given an extension, which was probably ill advised by Alan Swan, Definitely ill advised, if you if you asked me my opinion, but I think this is a seasoned you go.
That's kind of make a break for Clint Hellman.
I don't feel it's gonna be shoved it where you go nine and three and lose to the best teams under schedule, like Alabama, Notre Dame in Oregon.
I don't think that's good enough. Now we don't know.
It's not something that be my phone is saying right now, but my sense is that that really could be a change.
And I don't think unless you do a midseason sort of firing, like maybe they lose a few games and it just is a circle is in the team and my clone decides to, you know, fire Clay Helton in the middle of season.
Maybe you would see a Graham Harrell stepped in, but they're going to make a change at the end of the season.
I wouldn't even if Graham Harrell, like a great season and now offense was amazing.
I think they want to bring in someone with head coaching experience.
I don't think you can afford to get another inexperienced coach like you did.
The last one was quite.
You promoted the offensive coordinator last time and you saw how that worked out.
I don't think grandmother would be in the leading.
The big name out there is like an urban Meyer, a Bob Stoops.
That's something that us he's never done before.
They haven't gone out and got the guy that everybody wanted.
So I think it would take a big change of the mentality of this athletic department.
But it has changed.
You know, this could be a lot of pushback from boosters from the front, but who knows if you try to get a guy like Urban Meyer? But getting someone like that established, like about Stoops over, admire it more of a surefire thing, but as you know, uncomfortable, nothing.
Sure fire. You thought he was gonna be amazing.
A and he It's pretty terrible.
So I said, It's a great pleasure to It's hard to tell at this point, but I think it really is make or break year for Clay Helton.
Finally, like we all thought he could have been fired in the last couple years.
Apparently, that wasn't the case.
I think it's a Medio burger even did a pretty good year.
I don't think that's gonna be enough.
Um, anything any thoughts about you know, Pendergrass at the end of the seas, and I believe he was fired and they brought in a I believe Orlando.
Any thoughts on that? Yes.
So because God has been around a while, it really close to Clay Helton.
And so you know that there was but doing behind the scenes to get get rid of some of the guys like that, like a Neil Calloway or John Baxter. Depended.
Got these people that were really close to come put help.
And they're gone now.
And I think that shows that the athletic department was serious, that this isn't gonna be good enough.
You have to make some big changes going forward and bringing in a guy like Todd Orlando, who was fired by Texas, to be fair.
But I feel like he was, Ah, hot coach, just like two years ago, and it feel like a lot worse.
Coach now be out.
One year gets fired It? I don't think so.
I think he could have been more of a scapegoat.
It'll be curious to see how his defense works out.
I think it would pay a lot more attention to the linebackers.
Diffuse a linebacker coach.
That's a really talented position.
You know that us.
We just kind of under utilised the last couple of years.
So I think with in coaching the linebackers, I like to defend the stamp that put together they bring a donkey Williams from Oregon.
Creighton I work comes over from second as well.
You know, though, is that the line? And you've only got three years experience.
But man, that guy's got so much energy, he just someone you'd want to run through a brick wall with, though it's I think it's a really good defensive staff house that recruiting really well, if they could coach as good as they recruit, it should be a really good on the defensive side of the ball.
Okay, you know, uh, sitting back on a January 13th 2020 and it feels like about a year ago.
But it was really, like, six months ago and seeing a former USC coach and or drawn take the O.
L s U Tigers to the to the title to win the title.
Um, you know, and he just about, I believe, six years ago he was inter.
He was the in term head coach for ah ah, kissing, maybe circadian.
Who knows? But, um, you know, he took our team that Corvallis a place that we could not be.
We could we could not get out of there with That was out losing and we ended up winning.
But, you know, seeing ever or drawn, take another team in SEC team.
What was going through your mind when he won? Yeah, and order on one of my favorite people in the business.
He's just great, you know, He was one of the first coaches we were, like, allowed to interview, and when they started letting Internet site get more media access before that, it was mostly newspapers.
The of the print media was big.
The digital media was not.
But, you know, he was one of the first guys was always very great.
Well, he was just great to talk to you.
And, uh, just what you want to root for.
I feel like you got a raw deal at USC when he did.
You know, you have a 62 records and be Stafford, a top five Stanford team.
What really some indications on the because inside of all stars, numbers go and didn't get the dog and they decided to hire Steve Sarkisian and said, and that's one Clay Helton got his Jets video dreamcoat through first time when I order an end up leaving, so I feel like he deserved the shot at USC and I didn't get it.
But things work out for a reason, and I think it's really worked out for him to use a perfect job for him.
And, you know, they have a weird stuff going on where they lose Detroit or something.
I mean, there were there were people ready to fire him and he gets transferred.
Quarterback Joe Borough hires the right people on the offensive side of the ball.
Brings a guy like Joe Brady from the NFL, and it's just quick that were never do really well.
He's one of the best recruiters.
I've been around.
And that roster staff that there would.
They have 15 divers get some crazy number of guys get drafted.
It was sort of lightning in a bottle, and I'm really happy before.
I think the interesting thing will be how can they were coming from that when you don't have the same off at the staff, but you don't have job borrow anymore? Can you keep this rolling? All those defensive guy always gotta replace that got drafted.
You could keep it rolling.
You couldn't do that before.
Backfill really count the players with his recruiting prowess, but really happy for him.
I think there's a lot of USC fans that were just Jared fellas do in that situation.
He's a great guy, and it's just good to see have some success.
And I know there was a state of his mouth leaving us see.
He brought us the people around him.
Former national championship When it comes John Robinson.
Marcus Allen was around that team, so he's got some USB ties there.
Which is interesting is a lot of us in the SEC right now, but nothing but pure happiness for head order on when you want that.
Okay, we'll probably holding you up from your afternoon so have agreed Day and stay safe.
You stay safe, Dio.
Thanks very much.
You really You're right.
I feel like that was three years ago when he was six months ago.
So it's been a crazy 2020 and very hopeful that we'll have.
All right, take care.

Teoh, leave the wide receivers and I mean, you're going to see King Slovis, who is obviously gonna run that offense.
He could be a Heisman.
He could be a Heisman character.
He could be He could be.
Ah, Heisman character was going after.
I never him about that.
But you know, I promised him it would be, you know, like, 5 to 7 questions.
So, you know, if you want to go listen to more of Ryan Abraham going to USC football dot com They have the peristyle podcast.
It should say under one of them.
I can't show it to you guys because of I Only these stupid restrictions and USC putting us CEO on stand stand for something different than they think.
I'm actually looking it up.
I don't know what, but you I search out like USC and it doesn't allow me like I search of USC.
Trojans doesn't allow the USC.
Like I search up Trojans.
I have to search of Trojans and then and then, you know, frozen's.
And then I have to search of you and then at R S C Trojans or s and then space see, or you've space s spacey, and it's really annoying.
I wish I could go to USC football walk home, and I can't, which is kind of annoying.
Um and you know, my computer doesn't really work, so it's in a like Ah, but thank you, Ladies and gentlemen, have a great day, and I'll fire on Gold Frozen's and les que national champions have done this year in 2020 for all for all Trojan fans, are you? Confer? So thank you, Mr Abraham.
