it is due to the Sean Watson having more options to target rather than just force feeding Hopkins.
Of course, after the Texas traded away DeAndre Hopkins, they signed Randall Cobb.
They brought in branding cooks.
We still have Kenny Stills and Will Fuller on the team, so there's a lot to go around.
But I And now that my boy Lawrence Cohen is in the building, this waas your baby to begin with, and I somehow weaseled my way into this story, not only weasel my way into the story well, my way in to host the story.
But, Lawrence, before I give my opinion on any of this, will the Texas offense be better without DeAndre Hopkins? I mean, obviously, DeAndre raises a bar.
I get that as an individual.
There is no player on the Texans, uh, outside of the Sean, that is even J.
You know, because of his age.
But there was nobody outside of that that was at that caliber of player.
But the real question is at what you're paying, we're going to be paying V, huh? Is it better to have two good receivers or one really, really great? That's my question because one really, really great one can be taken out of the game.
I ask Bill Belichick.
That's why he's so good at that, Right? So all right, you just put a guy under, put a guy over, and he still might get a couple catches, you know, because he's just that darn good.
But when you have even amount of people with equal amount of talent across the board and depth behind that talent toe, be ableto refresh the team as they go, keep their legs fresh and stuff.
Overall, I think what? It's kind of scary.
But now, like sat down and seen everything that Bill O Brien has done, he might have been a little bit of a mad genius in this situation.
Okay, so here's my thing, Lawrence.
Sometimes you decide to go the quantity over quality route.
Being a New England Patriot fan.
I have seen that work, and I've seen it not work.
I saw the likes of Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan when a couple of Super Bowls together.
I then watched the mishmash of Antonio Brown, Josh Gordon, Julian Edelman, Mohammed Sunu McKeel Harry and Jacoby Meyers have one of the worst offensive seasons the Patriots have had in the Tom Brady era.
Here's my point to all of this, though.
Lawrence, when I look at the Houston Texans, when I look at Bill O Brien, why can't you have your cake and eat it, too? DeAndre Hopkins is going to cost the Arizona Cardinals this year $12.
It's a cap, it of $12.
David Johnson, who was a part of the DeAndre Hopkins deal heading back to Houston, is going to be a cap it of $11.
1 million this season.
So let me ask you this.
Admittedly, Houston's Texans look more full this year.
But why couldn't you have the Andre Hopkins Randall call Brandon? Are Randall call Brandon Cooks and Fuller all on the same team at the same time? Because I would have then, as I have told you in the past, people have watched this.
I believe the Indianapolis Colts were the favorites to come out of the South.
If they had still a DeAndre Hopkins, plus that supporting cast, I would have been going with Houston.
I fully agree with you, but the problem that we have to take in consideration is, uh what kind of fallout was Bill O'Brien and De Haan having over over the course of the last couple years? Right.
If Hopkins was not happy where he was at with her chance, that he would hold out, he's obviously Hey wanted to.
This was you don't trade maybe the best wide receiver in the NFL for a second round pick to 80 body, right? Okay.
And the only way you do that is it.
You want him out where he wants out where there is a There is a chance that this guy will not play at his elite level the next year.
So if there was a chance that there was a fallout and O'Brien was thinking, well, he might either hold out or he might not, you know, put his full effort into playing because, I mean, let's be fair about this.
It's not like, uh, Hopkins is a speedster.
You know what he does great is going up and getting 50 50 balls.
What he does great is his cuts.
His route running.
He's a possession receiver may be the best in the business right now, and it would not take much for him.
Should just drop a level.
Still look like he's out there playing, but not really doing so.
So if if there was a little bit of fallout between them, then that's why you don't have your cake.
You know, you just you've got some ice in here.
Well, no, actually, you got the cake, but you're not got the icing right.
You got the fullness of the team.
But you don't have that icing.
That is the hot.
I am a coach guy.
And when there is a player coach conflict 9.
9 to 10 times, I will take the coach's side.
The whole Brady versus ballot check debate amongst Patriot fans.
Even though I tried to stay neutral in in the middle and say you can't have one without the other.
I've always leaned towards Bill.
Ballot check for everything else that happens on the team.
Tom Brady didn't single handedly win a Super Bowl.
And if people say yes, he did.
While he didn't single handedly win a Super Bowl 53.
So my argument that's check and mate.
But in this situation after moving on for Jude Avian Clowney and now DeAndre Hopkins bringing in a beat up, running back, realizing you could have had DeAndre Hopkins and the arrest of the players on that team.
If I'm the owner of the Houston Taxes, I may be looking at this situation going.
Maybe I put my face in the wrong guy.
You know, maybe I should have looked at, because here is my concern.
When you look at that whole list, he kind of bumps up to that number one receivers position.
I mean, Brandon Cooks is now Brandon cooks from two years ago.
Branded cookies coming off another injury filled season.
You know Randall Cobb, older beat up experience.
Will Fuller's that is probably sitting number one on the depth chart right now.
And I have one last year to for the and I have concerns with Will Fuller.
Six drops on the season.
He is only got 84% true catch rapists or catch rating, you know.
Ah, there's a lot of things about him and his yards per target.
There is 9.4 yards.
His yak isn't great.
Yeah, he's got speed.
He's got wheels he can stretch and I get.
Now you Brandon cooks, another guy who can stretch.
You've got a true slot receiver and Kenny Stills.
Who? Let's face it, hasn't been the Kenny Stills.
A pass, but you've got Kenny Stills.
But I just sit there.
Go in the magic that Houston could have made this year because they're now a team that's coming up on having to pay to Sean Watson, who is going to demand if Dak Prescott is demanding $40 million.
How much is too Sean Watson worth on the open market? You know, I mean, if he's gonna hold out if he's unhappy with Houston, does he have more weapons this year? Absolutely.
Last year he was stuck to Fuller and Hopkins.
I just think about what they could have done if a.
They had a coach who has had nothing but problems with his players since the day he's got there had problems with the general manager since the day he's got there.
So what did they do? They've gotten rid of the general manager.
Now they've gotten rid of the players.
I think at the end of the day, no matter how much better Houston looks offensively, at least from an option standpoint, Bill O Brien is on.
It's not even a leash.
She's on thread this year, and one quick little pull is gonna snap his career in Houston.
Well, I'm looking at next year.
Salary cap for Houston, Texas Now this year is hit.
They were hit pretty good, but looking at next year, obviously, they got to get Watson, as she said, extended.
And by the way, what made me raise my eyebrow? The most was afterwards, after the old, all the trades and everything and after the draft was done, when did Sean Watson said, I am really excited about the team that is coming into this coming season, and I can't wait to play for Texas this upcoming season like he's honestly, really excited about what he's got around him now.
And he was upset with the coach.
You wouldn't sound is excited now.
Yeah, I get that you don't you don't air your dirty laundry.
But from the interview that I've seen from him, he looked truly, honestly excited about this year.
Now I'm going back to the cap.
Obviously watching is gonna have to get an extension But after that, the highest paid player on their team, this Kenny Stills.
Eight million bucks they have They're gonna have a ton of cap space.
McCarron, their back up quarterback is their second, uh, cap hit or current, a p y of $4 million next year.
That's the backup quarterback.
So they're gonna have some money once all this stuff, uh, finally fishers out And the problem that I am seeing is they're gonna have to continue to build because cobs on a one year deal, right? Uh, they're going.
I don't know what they have extended, um, cooks or not, But I think he he's all in one year to the end of his contract.
Um, so they're gonna have to figure something out.
That's probably one of those.
Show me what you could do.
You know, it's this year.
Show me what you could do.
We got money next year, play Well, you might get you might get a paycheck because what they did in the draft and what they did in free agency was complete opposites this this season.
And this season, they Yes, they got rid of, um de huh, but They went out and got a whole bunch of offensive players and and draft wife.
They only had five draft picks.
But were those what three of those went offenses are defensive players and one went to a wide receiver and one went to Ah ah, offensive lineman.
I believe you. Look at that.
I think I got that.
I got it right in front of me Here.
You got a defensive tackle, a linebacker, an offensive tackle, a defensive back in a wide receiver.
Yeah, so they went and got one player on each level of the defense.
They got Charlie hit.
Who will end up being the replacement out there on, um, her.
Oh, trying to members named Titus Howard.
I think his name is at the right tackle position opposite of Laramie Tonsil hex.
Just going to take a little bit of time to get t get the NFL down.
But I think he has a chance to be pretty darn good.
And I mean, obviously Ah, lots of people were high and low on Blackman.
So and this wide receiver they have, he has a chance.
Um, read is the only guy unquestionable about I like greener.
But read John Reed is the only that quarterback out of Penn Stay.
Some people are.
Some people think it was a good pick.
I'm actually a little questionable on whether or not he'll fit in their system properly.
I'm looking at that.
I'm looking at the Texas draft grade here as per CBS NFL.
And they have I mean, they graded them pretty well.
They gave him an A minus for Ross Blake lock.
They given a for Jonathan Green Yard.
They gave me a C minus for Charlie Hack, the offensive tackle, the actual game and a for John Reed.
The I know they really did.
Like, really, I questioned the scheme fit, though, because they they do a lot of men, I think, reads more of ah, soem guy.
And they gave a B to Isaiah.
Um, Coulter, the wide receiver.
Yeah, and I really like Coulter.
I think Colter will end up being pretty good.
Obviously, he's not going to be in the starting rotation right away.
I mean, Randall Cobb is a backup right now, so yes.
Um, but no overall.
Overall, I think they have a better chance at winning right now with what they have, then what they did before the season or but before the postseason started, You don't wanna meet up from what they had last year to this year.
I think they're a better team.
I agree with you 100%.
What I just can't get over is is they could have had the same draft they had.
They could have made all the same moves they wanted to make in free agency.
Except they could have had DeAndre Hopkins on the team with everything else.
You what I mean, and it wouldn't have affected their salary. Cowboy.
It's a $1,000,000 difference on their salary cap.
You can figure that out one way or the other, right? That's my whole thing, is we? I agree with you.
I think this Texans team looks much improved from last season.
I think the offensive line is still gonna be suspect.
It wasn't really addressed.
Um, and I think that's gonna be an issue for them going forward.
And I think that's gonna hurt their run game.
Who they just gave up.
DeAndre Hopkins for right, um, for a broken down running back, who could surprise us sometimes guys with a change of scenery, you know, Look at Kenyan Drake in Arizona.
Even he just exploded there, right? He was having a lot of issues in Miami.
It couldn't get any momentum going goes to Arizona, breaks through.
So maybe jobs that comes in and breaks through.
I just look at it and go yelling of salary cap next season.
But, I mean, how many more years is Randall Cobb? Have laughed.
How many years of Brandon cooks have left that they're still, you know, these top end players.
Ah, Fuller, to me is a suspect number one that he really is.
In my eyes, he's a suspect, and it was a stretch guy, but he's a suspect number one.
And I'm thinking this could have been the year that we all sat back and went, Dammit, The Houston taxes are probably gonna win the Super Bowl.
You know, if you have the Andre Hopkins on this roster and that's I think the pieces getting me, I'm not disputing you that I don't I'm not disputing you that they don't look better.
I think they do look better.
I'm just I'm not even disputing.
I guess my issue is what could have been if Bill o Brien could just pull his head out of his ass.
Well, I don't know the full argument between Hopkins and O'Brien, so I can't make an opinion on who I believe is right who I believe was wrong in that situation.
I wish I was to be a fly on the wall during that situation.
Right? Oh, my goodness.
How much you know? How much money would you pay? What would you give up to have been a fly on the wall during that situation during the conversations between DeAndre Hopkins and Bill O Brien Just to know what transpired to make this completely irreparable, and he needed to be off the team.
That's that's the big question.
And, um, until I know 100% what happened then? Uh, team makes work, not blowing up about, you know, like, terribly that d hot was was traded.
Except to Sean Watson.
Well up. Well, I mean, he's the court. Eat.
Your best wide receiver is gone.
Obviously, he's going. He's going to say something.
Could that also be, though, Could there also be fear to that because, I mean, if you're gonna trade away DeAndre Hopkins because of quote unquote attitude, you mean one thing that we have heard about the taxes locker room is people are afraid to speak in the locker room.
There is no leadership.
Bill O'Brien wants to be the ultimate leader.
Where you look a great coaches like Balletic Dungy, Andy Reid, they, yes, their leaders.
But they rely on their locker room leaders to get messages across.
Bill O Brien doesn't want the messages coming from to Sean Watson and DeAndre Hopkins or to dating clowning.
That's why two of them are out the door.
The message has to come.
His control freak sort of, you know, just micromanagement and sort of bully mentality of it is.
I mean, this is a guy who had a screaming match with Tom Brady on the sidelines.
That happens between coaches and players.
It happens all the time.
But the head coach had to come and physically pull him away.
You mean from screaming at his quarterback like that, the guys will lose cannon and I think to me, it's I think, look, if he was Bill ballot Stack, if he was Andy Reid if he was Tony Dungy, if he was Sean Payton.
I'm probably question this move less, and I'll admit that because I think I look at the leash that Bill Brian has had.
I mean, he's now been is gonna be 1/7 season as the head coach of the of the Houston Texans.
Nine and 79 and 79 and 74 and 12 11 and 5 10 and six like, You know, me.
Those aren't impressive starts for a head coach.
And but he wasn't building the team until this past year.
Um, you know, will this work And will this gel does having a team, you know, Is he trying to copy the Kansas City Chiefs model by bringing in all the speed with, you know, stills and cooks And, you know, and Fuller is just ah, lightning bolt.
And he's Ah, big light.
Any bold like that, you know? Is he trying to match that speed? Is the Sean Watson Patrick Mahomes? You mean, does Sean wanted just who heaved the ball 30 yards, 40 yards down the field, every throw.
So I mean, that's gonna be something to see two I just to me, it's just you got an unproven guy with a proven attitude.
Um, we heard nightmare stories about him in the Patriots locker room.
We've heard nightmare stories about him now in the Texas locker room.
You know, he compares.
Ah, he tells, um ah, DeAndre Hopkins like this is similar to, you know, last time I do address a guy like this was was Aaron Hernandez like, Come on, you know what I mean? Like, come on, you're taking one of the the darkest stains on the NFL and comparing your star receiver to that.
And I gotta pray a problem with your baby.
Momma's coming to the stadium, you know? It's like, Well, cause I thank God like I'm already never played for him, you know, like with with his 14 kids and everything else.
So it's It's, I don't know, and I think that just why I'm more critical about it, it's I've also seen Bill O Brien lose the big games and not coaches team through it.
I mean, there was a game.
There's a video out there, which is a great video of last season of Bill O Brien getting into it with the Texans fan and DeAndre Hopkins having to grabbed him and dragged him into the into the dressing room.
And I'm just like to me, I'm like, That's the leader of your team, that your players have to grab you and pull you away.
And I think that's just where I stand on this.
It's and maybe it's because I think when you have the players that he has, there's a level of expectation.
But as a head coach, I get passion.
Passion is great, but come on, your player has to stop you from fighting with a fan like let's relax a little and again.
We don't know what the fans said.
Maybe the fans, that some derogatory, I get it.
But you're the leader of the team.
You need to show more restraint because and here's the thing.
If a player would have reacted that way, the reaction from the media would have been a lot different than than it did.
You know it got a little footnote for Bill O Brien.
That's a bit odd to because I mean, Bill O Brien is the higher end on that team.
So yeah, I agree.
He should have shown a lot more restraint in a situation like that.
Um, being a hothead sometimes can be, you know, a huge benefit, a za coach.
But you got to be able to channel that energy in a positive way.
And sometimes he's questionable whether how positive that way is that he's defending it.
Um, but you made a great point earlier about how how he looks like he's building this team kind of mirror Kansas City with the speed and, um, the defense.
Both defense's have aspects that are good and suspect in other aspects, you know? So this is very, very interesting.
Um, the only question I have.
Obviously, I don't like Johnson coming because of the simple fact that you know he's had his injury issues and he costs a lot of money for injury issues.
But I wouldn't I would honestly stayed with hide because I thought I did very, very well last season and instead now hides and I think Seattle.
So eso Here's, I think, the question a question we need to ask, cause I think it's it's comparative herbal and is loaded now is Houston's offense looks.
When I went over and looked at the depth chart on Arizona.
I went, You mean when you really look at that, you can't determine who won and lost to trade before anything happens? Um, I mean, sometimes, you know, the first year sometimes, you know, five years later, who won or lost his trade, This is a trade.
That's definitely we're going to know what the end of the season, who won or lost the trade.
But if you were gonna given early prediction, if I brought you to Vegas and you had to put a bet on it, you know Im e not on who won this trade, you know, a preseason bet.
Who looking at the Arizona tea now that has DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk, who's a very underrated slot receiver.
And then Keyshawn Johnson, who's gonna be their fourth receiver, who is also another underrated guy along with Kenyan Drake.
Compared to the Houston's now roster of Cobb and Cooks and Fuller.
And this and let's just talk offensively, pure offensively, let's not talk.
Win loss record.
Defense's let's just like pure offensive numbers up.
What would you say that at the end of the day, one of these two teams won the trade.
Or could you look at this and say, Well, after the moves that O'Brien made? It's a pretty even trade if you had to make a preseason bet without actually knowing how it's gonna work out.
Just based on what was traded between the two teams, Arizona came out on top by four.
But it's the moves afterward that make you go.
Uh, maybe, you know, Houston, Houston, Some sort of an idea of what they want to go with.
Um, so and you really can't go by record predictions at the end of the year because I Houston won the division last year.
Where did Arizona rank last year? So I mean, obviously Arizona ends up winning.
Their division is here, which would be an outstanding feat, I'm telling you then.
Then hands down Arizona one.
You know, there's no question, but they also being like one of the hardest divisions in football, right? I'm saying absolutely outstanding.
Be it would be got going from worse the first and not just worth the first in some act division.
If they're both wild card teams this year, if they're both old Arizona Arizona would have won because they were a lot further out than what the Texans would.
Yeah, because I look at the Texans winning that division last year, and I mean, outside of the end of the year of New England, who who started looking really bad near the end of the year.
Um, if we compared to an entire body of work I looked at Houston is the weakest of all the division winners, You mean, um, you know, really? I mean, if Tennessee could have made that move toe Tannehill earlier in the season, that very well could have been Tennessee's division.
Um, you know, Ah, the Colts had a good run, and I mean, really, they're kind of they were kind of a quarterback away from being really, really tough.
You know, um, and all their wife and all the wives, Yeah, and all their wide receivers about her and I look at and go like Houston kind of hung on by the skin of the teeth, and then I really do.
And I'm not taking anything away from Kansas City.
And I'm not taking anything away from Patrick Mahomes.
And I know Chiefs fans will get mad and you saying this, But when your team is up 21 nothing in the in the playoff game and you let up 28 straight points.
I put a lot of blame on the coach like you've got to do something.
You have to do something to re.
Whether it's OK, your defense can't stop him.
Your offense needs to go into a seven minute drive.
You I mean, you have to do something.
And Bill O Brien just sat there with marbles in his mouth.
And I think that's where, like a lot of my concern comes in for for this team.
Well, maybe Maybe that's why he did what he did.
I Maybe this is a situation where now he feels he's got the personnel to be able to put the foot on the gas for four straight quarters rather than lean on one guy for an entire game.
Yeah, and and again, I mean, we're not going to know whether any move on any team for anybody.
You know, if DeAndre Hopkins goes to Arizona and is a problem in the locker room and poor Kyler Murray's no got to deal with the diva.
Well, then it looks like Houston wins a trade.
You know, um, if the Texans can somehow come out and they looked, looked fantastic and win when What's going to be a pretty tough division in the A F C.
South between the Titans and the Colts? And there, you know, you could say Bill O Brien made the right move or we could sit there at the end of the year.
Both teams missed the playoffs, and we go like, what good was the trade and what good were the off season moves? Because it all, you know, resulted in the same way.
But I think for Houston, from an expectation standpoint, I know it's easy to say, Well, the colds got better.
And and, ah, and the tagging other titans of the Titans.
And but, I mean, I think if I'm a cold stand, you traded away DeAndre Hopkins, you made all these moves like it's got to be Win the division or you have failed expectations.
If your Bill O brien Oh, yeah.
I mean, sitting here at the Colts, fan looking every Colts fan period when they saw the tweet, you know? Hey, uh, Bill O brien just traded away d hop toe the NFC.
I think there was champagne bottles blown up.
You know, it was everywhere. Yeah.
We don't have to cover him no more.
I don't know if you watched that one get There was a game where, uh, deshaun Watson was dead to rights in his own pocket.
Had a guy wrapped around his ankles, another court wrapped around his hip, and another court was coming up getting ready to light him up.
The referee blew the whistle just as watching through a football to, uh, walk ins that that was just got barely open to get a touchdown.
And they're like, dead no grass, you know, And it was a huge deal.
I understand why the fans for Texans were upset about that, but I also understand why the referee called.
They should have called a little earlier than what they did.
But I understand the call.
Um, but you're taking that kind of dynamic away, right? When when the hops not there.
Because Watson and and and Hopkins had had this great dynamic between them, they understood.
But you can only lead on one guy.
Like I said earlier for so long during the game.
He is going to get tired if he does not get breathing time, Time to rest.
And now, when you got stills and Cobb and Cooks and four and Fuller, when he's healthy, is incredibly good when he's injured.
That's when you it doesn't matter what kind of injury Fuller has.
He could have a broken fingernail and, you know, just barely hit the quick or something, you know.
And all of a sudden he becomes the number three wide receiver.
Yeah, but when he's fully healthy, the kid goes out there and just lights it up.
I mean, is scary.
He's kind of that Hill or Watson for for Ah, I would go more Watson, I guess, because Hill has a little bit of route running to him.
So I don't think Fuller's that good of a route runner yet.
But he's still young, and I just keep forgetting Cootie Cootie.
Actually, he's got a very similar situation.
He has a very similar situation to Fuller, where if he gets hurt a lot, Kiki does and when he's healthy, he's not bad at the slot.
So Oh no, they have a talented thing.
But, you know, let's talk a little bit about scheme and dynamic for a second and thus scheme or dynamic.
Um, with one piece I can't figure out when I look at this team is who is going to be Tyshawn's go to, um, you know, Randall Cobb's never really been the go to guy.
He's been the supporting cast Brandon Cooks has been supporting not to go to.
He's the, you know, stretch the field and launch it.
Fuller will have.
Wasn't the go to DeAndre.
Hopkins caught the second most balls in the NFL last season? Um, he had one of the he had the highest amount of snaps for wide receivers last season.
Like he was always on the field, you know? I mean, everything else is kind of average.
He's got an 88% true catch.
Radius is 50 50.
Ball incontestable was actually less than I thought he was.
Only seven edible, 46% of contested last.
Last year was a down year, actually, for Hopkins.
Yeah, I thought that would have been a bit a higher stat.
Uh, the year prior he was number two in receiving yards. Number two and receptions.
Ah, 55% contested catches, you know, 88 a half catch true catch radius R to crack true catch rating.
I means when you're looking at those kind of numbers, I'm sitting there going like who? You know, um, that play you were talking about for Hopkins to, you know, get an inch of separation.
You know, when he's in a lot of trouble and come back to him.
When you think of all the greats, you think of Peyton Manning, you gotta have Marvin Harrison in the same conversation when you think it's on Brady, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.
Wes Welker for a while.
Um, every quarterback has that go to like.
That's my go to guy and I'm looking at this team and I'm looking at this, this roster, and I'm not trying to disrespect any of these players on the Houston taxes right now because there's a lot of talent there.
I'm trying to figure out that maybe Kenny Stills he was a bit of a goat stew in Miami.
Who's gonna be who's gonna bail out to Sean Watson when he's got three Indianapolis Colts hanging on him That's what I'm trying to figure out.
I'm thinking they're They're hoping that David Johnson will be that guy.
You know what I'm saying that Then dump off. Hurry.
You know, get me out of trouble.
There's a plus and a minus to this whole situation with with once in right now the plus it The minus is his head's gonna be half Didn't b'more on a swivel.
Now, instead of being able to assume the ball tight, Look over a Is Hopkins one on one? Yeah, throwing the football.
You know, um, that you can't do that on every stinking play now.
But the pluses is that what was his head on a swivel? He's able to get through his progressions quick enough.
He's gonna find someone open.
It's almost a guarantee with the talent that he has around him now and the depth of that talent around him Now you're going to get someone to win a one on one.
Somewhere on that line, he just got to be able to keep his head on a swivel.
Won't be able to find that person, so it's gonna take a little bit, um, a little bit more effort to find the guy, but he'll be there.
He just got to find him.
I also want to name one more player that I think could be a big part of the passing game this season.
Missed the entire last year with a concussion, but a tight end that I was very high on going into the 2018 draft.
And that's Caylee Warren warring.
And, um, New England arms in 2018 was, I thought in need of, ah, tight end and ah, or story 2019.
I mean, I thought he was in need of a tight end, and they were because we saw with those three and I was Ah, I think you played out of San Diego State.
Yeah, use a San Diego State tight end.
And unfortunately, last season he dealt with a concussion and a hamstring in preseason, never played it.
Couldn't play a game in the NFL if he's back healthy.
When we talk about it, go to and I completely forgot that.
Worried even played on Houston.
He could be that go to for DeShaun Watson.
I really, really like Haley Warren.
I know your video guy.
If you ever get a chance.
Watch his video because he is a solid, tight end.
Um, with just you talk about catch, radius and hands.
He's not Travis Kelsey, but he's got the hands and he's reliable.
And I wonder if maybe he could be that guy for DeShaun Watson.
Well, I don't know.
I haven't I don't really know.
The guy very well haven't looked, but, um, I know that on their roster, their death chart they have Darren Fills is they're starting tied in.
But personally, I think the third year Jordan Bacon's is a very good tight end.
Um, he just again, you know, let me look your real quick at something.
Uh, that, uh, you play all 16 games last year.
36 catches, 418 yards.
He needs to be a little bit more, But then again, he didn't have a lot of, uh, he's mostly known Bacon's as as a blocking tight end, but he's got hands.
He's got the ability to be that all around tight end.
They just gotta use him that way.
And I've seen him stand out in games last season.
Yeah, and I'm trying to look at how much they targeted him last year.
Um, he played at 62% of their snaps, so they used them quite a bit, but it was only 55 targets.
Yeah, and I'm trying to see where that ranks him in the NFL.
I can't find that style right now.
Um, but yeah, I mean, you know what? Like as a target premium, They haven't rated 30th in the league, you know, as a premium target.
So there's a lot there.
Um, and I think what we'd have to see is his his catch radius open up a little bit.
Quarterback ratings went Targeting him is a 77.7.
But, I mean, that also includes coverage and that kind of thing.
Ah, I can't I can't find out Hit where you started.
But, I mean, he's got look to me.
And again, I'm an ****ytics guy.
The true catch radius is always what I look at for a guy because, you know, like he had a 65.
5% catch raining last year.
Our catch percentage last year.
But how many of those balls to 10 feet over has had and because it was targeted to him that counts is an incompletion in his, you know, as a targeting completion, Um, he's got his true capturing.
I mean, that's a pretty that's I that Yeah, that's a good number.
And I would love to see him achin.
We're talking a contrite Jordan Jenkins.
I would love to see a kinze and warring, maybe split up a little bit and instead of going like with a jumbo tight and put because they're both a little bit smaller of tight ends, right? Putting both those guys out there on either side very similar to a Gronkowski Hernandez and let them both go because they both have good hands.
They both got wheels I'm looking at.
Is his his attributes with wheels here? I mean, you know, and ah, he's a pretty strong guy.
I would love to see, you know, it's six foot three ah Bacons and then warning on the other side in some more targets outside of those receivers.
And really, I think that for the tax is to be successful this year, he's gonna have to spread the ball around a lot, not just to the receivers, the running backs in the tight ends have to be involved in the game.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
It's all saying his head needs to be on this little when he's on that field.
He's gotta gotta break that field down and not not halves, but thirds, you know, looked at the laugh.
Look to the middle, look to the right and immediately find your guy that is open.
You know, as soon as you see a guy that's open, get rid of the football because you don't know who in the heck is going to come through that line.
Yeah, and the offensive line is going to be an issue again this year.
For Houston, that was.
They didn't address it enough, and it's going to be a thing again.
And I think he's gonna have to take the Tom Brady approach this year of, you know, throw to the open guy.
And if that's your that's your running back two yards out, dump it to him and get some YAC yards and then move on to the next play every play.
Can't you know Sean likes to throw home run balls? That's one thing he likes to do, and we saw it with Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins.
Um, he's got to get away from that home run bone throw, especially with the cast he has now, even though he has cooks and Fuller who have wheels.
Um, use Kenny Stills.
Used Randall Cobb, user tight ends and use your your running backs and set up the deep ball.
Don't play the deep all set up the deep ball.
Um, you know, Fuller, I think, and and and, uh, cooks, it should be a combination of maybe five targets a game on deep balls.
You what I mean and and just keep playing that short game.
And I mean, we saw Tom Brady make a habit of this, and Peyton did it a little bit, too, of the short ball, short ball, short ball.
And then all of a sudden, you catch them in his own and, boom, they're hitting you hard on the outside, and you have this talent to do it.
I don't know if it's going to be on Watson or Bill O Brien and make sure the scheme is set up to work.
That way, we'll see another thing.
Last year they had a really good like 12 punch.
Last I said earlier, Carlos, Hyde and John, I thought they were top 10 and rushing.
Think there were Likes seven.
I think they were hiring the Colts, actually in rushing total for a team.
Um, but they, uh, they get really hide who's a slower, more power back.
And they get David Johnson, who's very similar, believe it or not to do Johnson, you know, kind of the speedy guy, but I think I think David could go between the tackles a little bit better than what do can, but they both can catch.
That's the thing they both could catch out of the backfield.
They both could come out and catch the football, which is, Ah, bonus to that passing game.
So I really think that I think for Watson overall, I think he might end up having his career year this year as long as the rest of the team could stay healthy and they could get on the same page.
You know, we just I just noticed earlier today that it was announced that the NFL P A and the NFL are in talks about, uh, possibly getting training camp opened a week early.
Um, toe make up for the fact that so many players right now or just not in football shape because, you know, they haven't been able to go to gyms and stuff like that and go to their training rooms and stuff, And there was in the open training camp up a little early.
That way we get all these players out there on get them back in a football shape a little bit better.
And if that happens, that gives them an extra week also to just kind of talk and get together and start to work with one another so that that will kind of help edge a little bit.
This is a question for you, too, because when I don't know the answer to um But, you know, you talked about certain teams and and this happened in New England a lot.
It happened in Indy when Peyton was there a lot.
Um, we've seen it with others, certain with other teams where, um you know, when you look at the old Indian, the old Patriots seems they had a lot of complicated offenses to try and and for a new receiver, it was sometimes even the best receivers just couldn't work in the system, that it was just too complicated for them.
How complicated? Because Bill O Brien is cut.
I mean, he was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the Patriots, so he would have been used to that complicated office.
How complicated is the Houston offense, or is it more simple? Believe it or not, I think it's a lot more simpler than then.
What New England run.
So I think, even though he might have had a complicated offense in New England.
Um, there's some routes, obviously that, uh, where you have ah, options, you know, your option routes.
But those were more for guys that they don't even have any more.
You get what I'm saying.
So I think I think he could make this even mawr simpler for the guys that are coming in.
So I think this really could help this team.
Not a lot, because I if you look at the routes that that Kiki Kuti was running that Kenny Stills was running that, um, four was running.
They were very simple routes, very, very, very simple.
Even when they the audibles, they didn't have to really change their position too much in the audible.
Write them so that that's also a huge benefit, you know, less complicated thinking during during inaudible.
So, yeah, as long as he continues keeping that he might have toe.
I don't know if maybe maybe Fuller's been in it long enough and understand it well enough that he might be able to go into that option route tree that's now vacated.
It's possible they maybe they'll try it out in training camp.
See how a zoo, long as him and Watson are on the same page, right? Yeah.
So there's a lot of Ah, look, there's a lot of questions, um, around Houston, not really by the roster.
I think we both agreed that Ross is pretty good, but there's gonna be a ton of pressure both on the players and the coach to succeed this year after you have an offseason like you did you know that DeAndre Hopkins is looking to Larry Fitzgerald and and ah Kyler Murray and he's licking his chops, saying, I want you know, I want to make Houston look stupid.
Um, which is gonna put pressure as well, because if he's performing well in Arizona looks good.
That puts even more pressure on Bill O Brien to make this happen.
Because I think one thing we've you, ah, and I, and even Joe or other partners, not with us they have all agreed on the lease is gonna be very short for Bill O Brien this season.
It's going to be interesting to see how it all breaks down.
And it goes, um, you know, again, we'll find out the end of the season whether anybody one this trade or if it was just straight up.
You know, if if Houston wins the division and the Arizona goes in the playoffs, I say it's a draw, you know, it's a drop in, and Bill O Brien was able to fill the team and make it better.
Or keep it the same without Hopkins.
And obviously Arizona gets better, so it will be interesting to watch.
It will be interesting to see.
Um, Houston, even in their winning days, haven't been the most relevant of teams to to pay attention to.
But ah, outside of obviously the South.
Ah, but it's definitely a team.
Them in Arizona are definitely two teams will be keeping an eye on this season because, you know, either I'm gonna turn around and say I told you so, Bill O Brien's of more honor.
I'm gonna, you know, give him the kudos that he deserves because he saw something that we didn't any final thoughts before.
We say goodbye to the people.
Yeah, I pretty much saying same situation.
I will admit that there is a slim chance that, like I said at the beginning of the screen, there's a slim chance that he might be a mad genius in this situation and that people are just not opening their eyes and seeing what the plan is that he has and why he's doing what he's doing.
And um, yes, the trade was awful.
Uh, weaken the team because, I mean, when you lose one of the best players out of position, obviously it weakens your team.
But who's to say how he would have played this upcoming season due to, uh, his quarrels with the head coach or whatever it was that was going on in the locker room? The reason why the trade happened, So we'll see.
It'll be interesting to watch Lawrence always a pleasure as usual um, I'm probably done for the day.
I'm sure you'll be on with a short one later on until I guess, until we reconnect tomorrow and hopefully our boy joke and join us.
