as always. I'm Adam Arm breakfast.
Wait a second for everybody to get geared up and checking with us here.
We're gonna go ahead and be talking a little bit about some of the young talent around the N b A.
Uh, Trey Young was having a little bit of fun.
Warmer himself up, knocking down some points.
And it got me thinking if I were going to start ranking some of these players, the young guys in the league, where would I cap it off? How would I structure it? So let's go ahead and dive in here a little bit.
This is gonna be a fun one.
Taking a look at top 10.
The top 10 players 25 or younger in the N B A rate.
And listen, I'm gonna go ahead and use.
You've been here with me before.
You know that the rapture rating is a thing for me.
The stats are thing for me.
So you're going to see these rolling into a few different tiers here? We've got five columns on the left.
That means that we're gonna deal to kind of take a look at these guys and think about them beyond.
Just Ah, you know what? They don't ready in their career.
Where they going? Where have they been? What kind of state is their career and where the prospects live? So first name.
Listen, we're going to pull them out here at random and won't even say that we're gonna go ahead and dive into the meat of this first rate in the middle of the pack here because there's a couple of guys on the back end that I want to touch on And then a couple of guys near the top that will get to Aziz.
Well, but let's throw the obvious ones with where we get in there.
Johannes is going in the list, and I don't mean in the middle there.
He's going right there at the top, as we know 25 years old.
I'm, uh I'm not gonna touch on what his stat lines are.
I think he speaks for himself.
Another name that we're gonna put out there right there in the top tier, pulling up from 2 to 1.
And that's going to be Luca.
The guy's an absolute beast.
If you're starting your franchise rate now as a corners known piece, You could make the case that he is rate there side by side with the honest splitting hairs about who has the best impact on the game, the honest, maybe from its size and what it forced the defense to do.
But the complete full package game from Lucca gets in there on the top of this list as well.
Now we start to think about in the middle of this list here, some of those some of those second tier guys.
Now there's a couple of things that are going on here, though recently broadcasted with Keith McPherson.
We were talking about the Simmons Tatum to be, and this is where it gets interesting, because for me, there's some guys that have already proven some things, and maybe you just wonder what's next for them.
If they can do if they can take the next step in their game, if they can get 13 to the next level, or is it going to take another the store on that team? Oh, are the rising or are they falling? So a couple of guys we throw out there you got Tatum, you've got Ben Simmons.
You've gotten the Joker.
We think about come.
Anyone else hear the close In that mix, you've got Karl Anthony towns and the question mark becomes here where you shuffle these guys into the hierarchy of top talent under to a 25 or under.
But Joker and call Anthony Towns and even Ben Simmons to an extent right.
They have a track record here.
So does so does Tina.
But it feels like Tatum is just about to scratch the surface of what he can do.
He's about to take that surge and become one of the the elite recognized talents in the N B A.
Everyone's familiar with it, but I think you're gonna start talking about him in a little bit of a different kind of context, as we head into will come playoff run here for the Boston Celtics and then into next season as well.
So if it's May, I'm gonna have Tatum there because I feel like he's just about to hit that scratching that surface point and then right there with him, I'm gonna have the Joker.
Here's a guy that's established in the league as you know.
Well, you know, the matchup problems he creates.
We know what the skills that is.
The question now is, though.
He has been in the league for a while here, and I don't know whether it's the team.
Could they play out West and their suffering and ever gonna go to get past whoever happens to be a top the West rate.
Now you're looking at the Lakers looking at the Clippers of wondering.
How do you slot yourself in there as well behind them? I'm going to put these two players for kind of a different reason.
That's been Simmons and Karl Anthony towns.
Karl Anthony towns.
The problem for you is your teams are back, Um, and even though you could make the case, you know, good player on a bad team, they have to do more to help him out there.
There's also the questions about how committed is he to improving his game.
Can he be the kind of guy that leads a team and, ironically, playing their Minnesota? Does he fall into the Kevin Love category, where she's just going to be a stat patter until you take him and make him the 2nd 3rd piece in Kevin Love's case on the Cleveland Cavaliers behind LeBron James and behind Kyrie Irving and then let him be a contributor and let him be someone who can help you in that way.
And then he got Ben Simmons.
And really, this is about we talk about that Keith McPherson debate.
It wasn't really much of a debate.
It was a clear table decision for both of us.
The reason why Ben Simmons, you know, you can say that.
Some people argue he doesn't need to develop another area of his game that known as a mid range on the perimeter shot.
Unfortunately, if you're not gonna have that perimeter shot that you're not going to be, ah, full complement of threats in spite of all the things that you do incredibly well, including on the defensive end, you need to get that next fast.
It's so even though I think Ben Simmons is still and is currently counts, both still ascending players, they're kind of my question work.
You remember a guy that just narrowly misses the cut off his joy.
Oil indeed plays with Ben Simmons, so the collection of talent around Ben Simmons means that he probably should have achieved more by this point in his career, and it will be interesting to see what the next couple of seasons holds for him and how the hierarchy of the East shakes out.
Karl Anthony towns is just about Are you a good player on a bad team or you a great player on an absolutely abysmal team? And how do you try to move the needle there for yourself as well? The last couple of names that we want to throw out there, obviously there's gonna be some youngsters, and I'm talking about the tray Young's We're talking about the Marantz of the world as well to premier talents.
Rookies really showed right out the gate.
We can go into, by the way, that you know the bookers of the world.
You can talk about a couple of their guys, Alexander.
You can throw it a lot of other names, rookies or otherwise that could be in this category of when you're making this list.
But for May Trey Young again.
Now he falls into a riel.
You are his stats.
A product of a bad team will be interesting to see how he continues to develop Moran rookie already showing it incredible court vision, great composure on the floor as well.
So I love what I've seen from him.
This is a Matt Brooks special in terms of players that are on the rise here, he would probably argue maybe even the shuffle him higher than a Ben Simmons higher than a Karl Anthony towns that I could maybe even want to do that based on ages. That idea.
If you're going to start a franchise this second, would you go with Karl Anthony towns? Or would you go with Moran? And it's probably that points about upside right impact they can have on the game.
How many more years do you have to have your impact on the game as well? Last, you guys gonna bring out memories, switch it over to the rapture ratings and give you some of that information around it, and you may be surprised.
There he is, my man Sabonis.
And there he is, my man.
Now, these are two guys again.
They're not rookies.
They're not young players in the league.
I don't think that when you think about a Tatum or a Joker, you put them there in that same echelon, necessarily.
When you think about the exciting young players that birth onto the scene this season, where you want to kind of rank these guys here on the back end.
Like I said, my back six could shuffle a lot.
I think the things that I know for sure is Yonathan Luca are immediately the top of the class here.
Then you talk about a Tatum and maybe even Joker and Simmons.
You know, they could be interchangeable, perhaps, But again, I want proof in the pudding.
And even Joker falls into that category, too.
So lets hop three feel pretty feel pretty strong on those.
Then that's a bit of a mixed bag here.
Between my 4 to 6 on, they could certainly rotate back.
Just guys that I'm excited about, whether they're rookies or moving into the 2nd 3rd and fourth years of their careers.
While I leave that up there for you, let's go ahead and have me head over to the Rafter rating.
We're gonna go right to the big one first here, and that's war wins above replacement.
And when we take a look at this, we're gonna rattle off a couple of different categories here.
But as you see the hierarchy to per column right, you get and and again, maybe maybe when we're talking about the excuse me as I shuffled my screen a little bit, maybe when we're talking about this, I say that Simmons should be right there.
You know, maybe all these guys should fall onto that same line and then you're debating where you want a shuffle joker in in front of or behind Simmons.
Whatever the case may be.
Ah, likewise, down here, you know, Do you want to be able to make you pull problem? I wouldn't say trade young, I would say Moran, Does he deserve to get pulled up into that second tier 30 year class or ready on, then? Has Sabonis Arana bio done enough early on here to maybe proved that they're worthy of They sent a little more right, because the bonus has done a bit more here in his career than Trey Young has proven.
But for the time being, let's go ahead and stick to the system we have in place.
And then let's walk through our rapture rating.
So when we get inside of it wins above replacement.
Let's run down the list and see where some of our guys fall.
You got ya honest there.
Number three Overall, 11.
0 wins above replacement, only two players ahead of him or James Harden and LeBron James.
The honest comes in there with that 5.
3 offensive rating, plus 5.
3 plus four on the defensive end of plus 9.
In case you're wondering, that is even third overall in its own right as well.
So certainly an easy one to make the pick.
Their down there really not too far behind.
The seventh spot for wins above replacement at 8.
Now, listen, you could make the case that defensive minus 1.
2 should bring him down.
But not unlike Harden in a lot of ways, plus 7.
7 on the offensive and good enough to give that 6.
6 overall rating and again the wins above replacement number.
That's what we're gonna base this bad boy off of.
He comes in there at seven.
It only takes a couple of notches in the ninth position for Joker to come up there.
And that's really why I think when you take a look again back at this list when you're talking about him being there, this is why you know, realistically, it should probably be like that, right? I'm really excited about Tatum.
I like where he's headed, but he probably hasn't quite done it just yet in terms of some of the some of these things that you want to see from him on the court.
But the evolution is there.
You're already seeing it happen.
So Joker comes in there he is just one spot, by the way, ahead of attainment, comparatively 4.
5, respectively, from Joker to take him on the offense.
8 for Tatum on the defensive and very close in the total.
Very close in the winter boat above replacement.
So you love that.
They're continuing to move down.
The list at 13th is where you'll come across Trey Young as I go through this.
Now, you talked about some of the other names that you maybe would want to have on your Ben Simmons all the way down there.
20 fit those solid on the defensive end wins above replacement of five, keeping that line, moving here and thinking about other young players.
Right? Auto Bio is a guy that I have on my list just behind Christian Would 4.
8 wins above replacement right now.
So improvement and, obviously of Jimmy Butler and some other talent down there in South Beach as well.
But when you think about so bonus at 37 solid 4.
8 wins above groups, those other names like Devin Booker, he's their 43rd.
You talk about a guy like Jamal Murray, 46 so they're in the neighborhood here.
But they're actually behind all the guys that I mentioned to you there.
The difference being here is that I don't go for a poor Zynga's, maybe on bias, because it's his first year really back with his legs fully under, Um, maybe I'm being mean, imposing his hater.
You know who knows there? From that standpoint, Siachen just narrowly misses getting onto this list.
Otherwise, you probably like to have him a little bit further up there.
Donovan Mitchell all the way down there at 71 overall.
That's why it's easy for me to kind of leave him out there.
Potentially, Alexander, at 51 is an interesting one, so I highlighted him his wins above replacement strong.
He's just slightly above average, though, in every category.
So it's nothing really to write home about.
Also out of bio when Sabonis their rate there.
Interestingly enough, I wanted to find that.
Let's make sure that we get that Trey young stat up here.
This is where it gets interesting.
For May, As I was shuffling those names around, it became a little bit tricky for me.
He's a seven overall on the war, so when we rely on these back up, hey comes in. They're a 13.
So we mentioned that there again. 13th.
So that probably means that he is well worthy of being somewhere up in this area.
And then Karl Anthony Towns is probably gonna have to take a little bit of a step back here.
Let's go ahead and draw him up real quick on the old winds, But listen now this is tricky, too, because he's on a bad team.
But is that his responsibility to do better? Still, a 5.
7 wins Bober policeman rating there for entry.
Young also on a bad team.
That's good for 20th for Ah, for Karl Anthony towns.
So I'm gonna keep him still upon that tear.
I'm gonna go ahead and pull pull down Simmons there a little bit.
And then when we think about the player in Moran where we find him on this chart, let's do a quick scan here before we get out the door for you, as we just put put a ton of information out there with, ah, reasonable expectations of being close to spot on where everybody should be.
If you don't agree with me, have various, um, you start talking about There he is.
Yeah. Listen only a 1.8 for Moran.
I like a lot of what he does.
So if I'm being 100% honest, there's probably somebody else out there that should move the needle better.
And for that reason, I probably take a look at this again.
And then I say, OK, really, I want Moran at the back end of this because I I see it coming right, and this is kind of that reaching down a little bit, you could find another guy that you should say is 25 or under and should be on this list instead of them.
But so bonuses well ranked.
We know what Simmons brings to the table.
I love auto Bio.
I think that he very easily you could make the argument that at some point along the way here, I should be saying something closer to this in that range.
Right? And these guys were probably interchangeable as well, because again, we talk about that war.
This really is, ah, hierarchy that complements across the floor.
And actually, well, let's talk about real quick here.
I want to take a look.
It I know that I mentioned that Sabonis is high up on this list.
But what were his full stats here quickly, before we move out the door? Um, there's ability.
So I mean, listen, he's a narrow plus guy as well, So the meat is just highlighting someone that I think has been strong and again.
You wanna have that mix right? Of not only having some of the young, smaller players a guard, you wanna have a couple of forwards, maybe the power forward slash center mixed in there as well, so as it stands, even though and I'll make this a little adjustment here As it stands, this is a list that I feel very comfortable with. It the top.
I feel intrigued as you move into the middle of it.
And then the back end, I think, is a lot of fun.
I like out of bio, um, and Simmons there.
And if I'm being, if I was going again, if we're gonna be actively making some adjustments here, let's go ahead and break the bonus down there as well.
Anybody in these last 2 to 3 spots.
I think you can interchange, obviously.
And and you could make the case that Simmons is deserving of being higher than Karl Anthony towns again.
Karl Anthony Towns.
But that makes bag of what would Sinden's be from Minnesota? And what will Karl Anthony towns be for the Philadelphia 76 hours if you swap them out? So a little bit of murky is there if you want to debate it for me, I love the top of the list, and I also love list in general.
Guys, I went by that wins above replacement.
We got into some of those rapture ratings on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Where do you fall on this? I think again.
Top three guys, top four guys.
I feel like we should all be on the same kind of page there.
But everything happened.
That falls into certainly a mixed bag.
Do you want to talk about projections of where a player is going like a trade young like a Moran potentially? Or do you wanna live in guys that have given you some concrete nb a footage? And by that standard, certainly we start to say, Let's get poor Zynga's in there.
Let's get the unicorn up into this rotation here, probably in lieu of more.
That being said friends, as always, we came to you here now on a Friday evening, talking all things N b a basketball.
What I can tell you is, and some of these names feel more familiar, right? The fresh faces air in this list as well.
Then some guys feel like they've been around because a lot of these your plea and players like Luca, they have been around.
What's nice to think about is that the future is bright for the MBA.
There are some nice wave of young stars that are ready to be surging here, and even some of the less flashy guys like a Sabonis certainly are worth remembering when you start to get in these kind of conversations.
What about Karl? Anthony Town's gonna get himself on.
Track it, that franchise on track, love without a bio shown here, will he continue to grow to that next level? He feels like me on a slightly lower level than what Tatum is doing.
That's what that feels like, though this year is a big year for those players.
They made this kind of jump.
I would even argue Where's Christian would write.
I sang his praises before 24 years old.
I would argue you should be in there, too, so I'm probably bumping off my final tier in just the last few moments of the broadcast.
But this is what's fun.
This is what debates about, please, by all means.
Follow everybody else on the channel here.
Keith McPherson, Matt Brooks, Brian Egan, Simeon Russell myself out of our Brecht talking.
All things nd A schedule is up.
The MBA is returning.
The debate can begin about.
Is this legitimate? Who will be crowned the champion? And in the meantime, let's have some fun.
Let's make some lists.
Let's talk about where the NBA's going.
Who's that next elite superstar that joins the honest and Luca at the top of this board has always thank you so much for checking in with us here on SportsCastr.
We will catch up with you soon.
