Phil, uh, you know, telling their players to share share their financial painting, right? The financial burden.
Because obviously the cove, it'd and, uh, everything else that's going hunting the world right now.
So yet soon as he gets in here. There he is.
I It's blower in going on.
How we doing today? How do I send my to love? No, you're explaining pretty good. You're pretty good.
It's a shame that really can't join us today, right? Yeah.
I was just telling them that I'm having one of my co host from SportsCastr News.
But unfortunately, guys, you know, when you're an adult, sometimes your schedules just don't met mesh well together.
So today, guys, we don't have a lot of time.
We're not going to keep you guys for too long.
But we are going to get into this topic.
And again, I wanted to bring Lawrence on this because I respect his football opinion.
I think he's very intelligent.
I always say I'm a big football fan, but I don't really like no other little nuances like certain little things.
And you see, guys like my guy Laurence that breaks down film, and he gets it right.
I also have another guy that's a Ravens YouTuber as well.
He's Ah, his name is Coach Evans, and he breaks it down really good as well.
So I always love hearing these guys that really know all the little nuances and things about football.
But this one is an interesting topic, right? This one.
I think you really wanted to talk about Lawrence.
So I want to give you the floor, you know? And then Aiken, you know, give you my thoughts on the situation.
Okay, So basically, this is kind of stupid, in my opinion, with Goodell, he's saying he wants the NFL players basically to take to agree the NFL pH will agree to have all their contracts re negotiated this year.
Like take a percentage cut of their contracts for this coming year.
Because of you know, no fans in the stands caused the NFL is gonna take a big hit.
And now, obviously, there's number Throw him this, that I'm not going to get into big time.
But quite frankly, this isn't like baseball.
Okay? No fans in the stands.
That's going to hurt. It's gonna hurt a lot.
Their income but a lot of the Earth has to do with commercialism.
You know, sales of products, things, that that's the majority of their money.
They're going to take a massive hit, and the NFL players are going to pay for long term.
But ask the NFL P A and the rest of the You know the players to be like, Hey, could you take a 17% pay cut this year on your contract so that we all can feel this? Trust me, they're going to feel it in the year two when when that money that revenue shortened that cat and these players were like, Well, we need new new money.
Hey, I I'm worth $22 million a year.
That's that's great.
But there's not a team in the NFL that could pay you more than 18 right? You know, um, now I do have an opinion that I think that Goodell in the rest of the NFL and maybe the NFL p A should go over.
Maybe not let that happen.
It hit in one year, may be kind of spread it out over like a five year period, so it's not that big of a hit everyone.
You know, players are still not places.
Still going to see good income, good re negotiation of contracts.
It won't be, You know, they might miss two or $3 million a year, but they're not gonna take, you know, a massive hit because obviously, you know, in a year or two when Lamar or my homes once, you know, 40 year and the teams like I'm sorry, do we can afford 30 $10 million hit now they could say, Well, since it's over a five year period, you know, stretching that out, you know, there's a big difference between saying we can afford 30 and we can afford 38 you know, and not hurt the team as on the whole, because it's not just going to be the one player that's going to be here.
It's every player that three negotiating contract, it's gonna break, gets on their paycheck.
Yeah, I mean, that's that's one of the biggest concerns that I had when I read this.
Some, like, how is this going to affect, you know, contract negotiations and future contracts in that type of stuff? So I actually wanted to ask you because I didn't know this.
I didn't know that.
Uh, I mean, I thought that the cap space was like a separate whole.
You know, just I imagine, like, a whole separate bank account that doesn't really You don't need to have money to actually use your cap space, But I guess I'm wrong on that.
Okay, So what it is is all the income that the NFL as a whole.
He gets a percentage of that from every team.
Go straight into basically your cat, which you should split up among all 32 NFL teams.
It's not like baseball where, you know, the Yankees get the the lion's share because you know how much revenue they get.
This is split evenly among all NFL teams, so every NFL team has the exact amount of max cap space that they have so that no team can be end up being like, you know, that the Yankees, right, even smaller, um, small media outlets like Cincinnati or Indy Or, you know, Kansas City, for that matter, small.
We'll have equal share and how much they could stand to acquire players as say, you know, your cities from Los Angeles or new You work or Miami or, you know, those bigger cities.
It's a much better way of doing business, in my opinion, to make, uh, an actual entirety of a sport more.
Um, what's that? Would cold.
But I'm trying to come up with, uh, where one team is not gonna be overloaded compared to another.
Okay, Yeah. Yeah.
So that's how that works out.
Like parroting. Basically.
This is more fair.
Um, so, yeah, I think that I like the way the NFL runs things.
I think baseball should have been doing this for a long, long time, but they haven't.
Obviously, um, and that's why they're in a situation they are in right now where they're like, Well, you're gonna have to, you know, uh, take massive pay cuts because we can't have fans in the stands.
And now everybody's gonna make pennies on the dollar.
Yeah, compared to what they used to.
Well, just think about I mean, not only are you losing the tickets, you're losing concessions, merchandise.
All of that is gone, you know? Yeah, exactly.
Whereas the NFL, I mean, they were smart when they when they got obviously, you know, having fan to this stands do make them money, but because they're so popular in the United States, um, commercial sales for Hugh.
Online sales or huge.
I mean, what's it like, $23 million right now, have a 32nd commercial during the Super Bowl.
I mean, my goodness are about right? Yeah.
I mean, come on, man.
So the NFL does a great job in in handling how they're acquiring their money and how they're giving up among teams.
What they can't do is tell the players straight.
In a way, it's doing the same thing.
You know, especially you split it among a five month.
My idea of splitting among five years, the cap hit over the next five years, you're still telling that the NFL players Hey, will you take a 10% pay cut? You know, on your contract this year or something like that.
But instead of doing that, it's basically you're going on the next contract that they're getting, and it's gonna be spread over a five year period because of the cap hit on teams, rather than just straight up saying Hey, we're going to affect your paycheck here and now, and that's what's gonna look like.
It's gonna look a lot worse asking you to do it that way rather than just lightning the cat, all the teams over the next five years.
So another thing that I was thinking about with no fans in the stands is what it sounds like we're going to do.
Um, do you think that the NFL to I don't want I don't want to say keep interest because I don't think that's gonna be a problem.
But I don't know to make games a little more accessible because, you know, people like me.
Back before the Ravens were like the oddest team, I had to go to the bar just to watch the game or I had to find a stream.
It was so difficult for me to find Ravens games because I would never get them on TV.
Do you think the NFL might, you know, make more games accessible for those that are out of the market just to kind of I don't know.
I mean, do you think that would be a smart move? I get what you're saying, and I think it be an incredibly smart move because I mean, there gonna be making up some of that revenue through additional commercials and stuff like that.
It's great that they put it on more, but also, you got to remember they're talking about the possibility of moving some of these games.
College won't be a thing that here and that will help out as well that that will allow more gains to be publicized nationwide.
Um, another thing that I think they ought to do.
And I was heart broke when I noticed this OK NFL game pass NFL game.
If you live outside of the United States and have NFL game path, you could watch any game you want to live.
It's in this or is it you want? But if you live in the US, you get out of that option.
Yeah, that I think they also lift that for those that are live in the United States.
I mean, it's $100 a stinking year anyhow, right? So you paid money.
I have paid money for this, and now I can't go to the game.
The watch it allow us to watch it through your game pass.
You have to know that way.
That way at least, um, at least then you could be ableto watch your favorite teams.
If they're not publicized on national TV, like you're saying here, exactly.
I mean, it would be the best idea.
It would just I don't know why they haven't done this before, so hopefully if one good thing comes out of it, that will be what it what it is.
Uh, but anyway, Lawrence, I don't know if you had any other thoughts on this topic, and maybe we can move to another one.
You hit me on the spot here.
This this topic don't **** off the NFL players.
Yeah, there are not a good idea is not a good idea.
Yeah, they're already ticked off.
You don't went through the whole knee thing.
And now you see where that's happened? Because it wasn't, um, taking care of during that situation.
You got play NFL player.
Sports players already stepping up and saying stuff.
You got coaches out there stepping up and saying things you do.
Some players and coaches are saying maybe the wrong things could they're starting a few few.
Ah, really controversial topics going on.
Uh, I don't remember which coach it was, but obviously everybody watching this probably already knows what's going on with Drew Brees thing.
Right? And that's what I was gonna bring up.
Go ahead. Go ahead, bring it up.
Well, guys, I know this is a very controversial topic, and, uh, you know, just however comfortable you feel going into a Lawrence, you know, share your thoughts as far as you want, But I mean, so Drew Brees did say something.
I think it was today in an interview about you know, how he didn't feel.
Ah, about the whole kneeling thing.
The kneeling thing was brought up about the protests, Obviously, before the George Floyd death years ago was Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem, which was obviously very controversial, You know, um and so Drew Brees was asked about it, and I don't remember exactly what he said, but he said something along the lines that he doesn't believe in disrespecting the flag.
And ah, I I understand that I totally understand that, but for me and and again, this might be a little controversial, but you can just go to the dollar store.
Oh, thank you for the popcorn.
I appreciate that.
I do appreciate that, but for me, you could just go to the dollar store and buy a little American flag lake.
I don't know why everybody put so much importance to the like a cloth, like like the actual object.
I'm not talking about what the flag represents.
Of course, it's a symbol to represent America and you know everything.
And that's completely fine.
You don't want to disrespect that.
But I never understood why everybody had such an issue with, like, a little, you know, I don't know.
Maybe maybe I'm completely off base here, Lawrence, But what do you thinking? Okay.
And so Oh, I got to be careful in saying something by ethnicity.
That very thing, right? If I say the wrong thing, everybody in the world will be at my front door tomorrow.
But I will give you the truth and how I honestly feel about it.
Okay, Quite frankly, as I told you already earlier, you know more.
We started this string.
The American flag represents the United States Constitution.
They not represent anyone that is in power in the government.
Okay, It represents what's the Constitution stands for.
Represents freedom, equality, the pursuit of happiness, period.
All right, now what? What? That one of those freedoms that it represents is the freedom to make yourself known.
Make yourself heard in a peaceful manner.
Okay? Kneeling is a protest of a peaceful manner.
Now, when when these guys were kneeling, they were technically disrespecting the flag, and they still have their heart.
They were still singing the national anthem, right? They were just doing so in a way to show.
Hey, you know, we're wanting people to understand what we're doing right.
I get where some people believe that that that that's disrespecting the flag.
In my opinion, if they were burning the flag er spinning, that's disrespectful.
Okay, that the flat out.
But that flag and what it represents gives them the right to do the peaceful protest that they were doing already.
Now, because the people that are in power in the government has not upheld what that flag and what that Constitution stands for is why we're in the situation we're in now.
That that equality the right pursue happiness.
Um, you know, your freedoms that you're given, That is why we're in the situation we're in.
And something needs to be done about it.
Something else to be done about it drastically.
Otherwise, it's only going to get worse because it's not just it's not just the people who are being hurt on a daily basis, but then you got the people who are just waiting for a reason to be destructive and use this reason where people are trying to protest peacefully and using this to just be destructive and destroying what they're trying to do in the first place.
So and then the message gets lost, right? Oh, honestly, I don't I don't know how I could express myself anymore, you know? Yeah.
Then you better, right? I think Ah, and the other interesting thing about this all is that we're kind of all forced to really think about this, you know, and ponder upon this because we don't have a distraction like, oh, you know, in the past Oh, yeah, let's focus on this for a week.
But the next week, you know, basketball or baseball is going to be here.
We don't have to worry about anymore now.
There's no sports going on. There's practice.
Well, I mean, you know, they're starting to get back into things, But still still, the fact that really all of the world has just been at home and we all have to ponder upon these things I actually think is really helping.
Um, And another interesting factor is that we see these guys in football that play football.
They all come from different walks of life, so they're all gonna have different beliefs.
Just like we saw Michael Thomas was disagreeing with Drew Brees.
And I think even Alvin Kamara.
So this is interesting men.
Do you think this is gonna have an effect on locker rooms? Possibly, I don't know Now with Drew Brees? I don't think so.
I don't think it will have an effect with term Breezes locker.
You could have a disagreement.
Now I am 100% sure that Drew Brees was not saying that I believe in racism, right? I don't think that was the message he was trying to get across, you know, I think the message he was trying to get across was, you know, I support my troops that into him uh, kneeling on the flag is disrespectful to the flag and the troops.
And that's not the message that that is trying to be sent at this current situation and why the kneeling on the flag is You know, that's not the message that was trying to be established.
And I think that people just need to sit down and talk and discuss it with him on a personal on a personal matter, and I'm sure that's gonna happen.
I think when Kimera and and as you said, Michael Thomas and the rest of the T gets together and they sit and they have a heart to heart discussion, I think they'll understand that they're all on the same page because, I mean, Drew Brees has done so much for New Orleans.
You can't really look at him and say, Hey, in the state of Louisiana, can't really say that that, uh, and wholeheartedly believed that this man is racist at heart, right? Of course.
I mean, for real.
He just I think I think there's just cross messages going on right here.
Yeah, yeah, I think it's that Ah, right now, the mentality I hate to say mob mentality because I don't think that's the right term.
But is that if you have to be in support of this and if you're against us, then you're just, you know, complete.
But But Drew Brees is not at all saying that he believes, you know, in white supremacy or anything crazy like that.
No, he's just, you know, sharing that how he believes about the flag, how his, you know, his dad and his grandfather, ah, served for the country.
So he has a lot of respect.
And he wants to, you know, make sure everybody else has the same respect.
So I totally get where he's coming from.
And, yeah, I agree.
I don't think he should be getting as much hate just for expressing his opinion.
You know, it's not like he came out and said some crazy stuff.
If he did, that would have been a little different.
But yet I think it's fine to express your opinion.
You know it, especially when it comes to kneeling.
Not everybody likes it.
Um, but, you know, the fact of the matter is we all I think we all know that changes do need to be made.
Um, and, ah, you know, one where in one way or another week, we've got to get it done.
And, uh, I'm sorry, but violence begets violence.
Yeah, you know, and and all that, does it continue to escalate? We need to find a way to fix this situation peacefully.
Yeah, whether or not we hold straight up, um, like emergency election.
Maybe that might be a good city.
Uh, state and government election to try to get who we believe needs to be in power to fix this.
That might be an option, right? Because I mean yes, the government, the people that we've already elected in government or running the place right now, But we are the ones that are in charge were the ones that put them there.
So if we all all as a people as a unity people come together and no hay this person stands for this and this person stands for this.
Put your vote in.
Know who you're voting for? Those just because you know your neighbor, your sister or your cousin or your girlfriend is rooting for this person.
Don't go vote for them just because someone else's right.
Make sure you know who you're voting for.
Make your own decision, right? Educated decision.
You gotta educate yourself, No doubt.
Um, Well, guys, I think like I said, we didn't want to keep you guys too long.
I gotta start preparing for my class.
So, um you know, I think we covered quite a bit.
I think we got a good conversation out of this stream.
Um, thank you for inviting me on.
Here, let me give me give my opinions.
And I hope that tomorrow we can all get together again for a regular addition of SportsCastr news.
The three of us? Um, we'll see.
You know, it's been it's been challenging to find topics.
I can't lie to you, but we keep it rolling.
We find we didn't find something, man.
Yeah, Well, Lawrence
