DP and Sports talk coming to you with just a quick fire little stream here today and I'm gonna focus a little bit in on the San Francisco 40 Niners.
Now Trent Williams, in particular, just got changed.
The 40 Niners from the Washington Redskins and what was just a season full of turmoil? He never played.
He finds out that he has a he finds only as a tumor in his head.
The medical staff dismissed, like no state it was cancer is he got mad.
He rebelled inside out.
They put him on IR.
He has claimed that he was ready to start.
He was ready to play when he returned.
And now here we are, Treat, you know, draft day trade.
He goes over the San Francisco 40 Niners, who lost one of their top offensive lineman when he went off and retired.
And now Trent Williams, after really the only sort of decent quarterback that he was blocking for, was, uh uh, Well, I mean, he had Alex Smith before Alex Smith got injured.
It was Alex Smith look really, really, really good.
And they had Kirk cousins who I think to me has always been one of the more overrated quarterbacks in the NFL.
And yet Trump Williams now gets to block for what I believe is a very underrated Jimmy Garoppolo.
There's a lot of people still angry with Jimmy G.
Ah, from you know, really, it's non 40 Niners stands, but there's a lot of people that are sort of doubting what Jimmy G is as a player because of the race.
The Super Bowl kind of played out when, in reality, I don't blame Jimmy Garoppolo for the Super Bowl.
I played Kyle Shanahan, who suddenly just gave up on running the football, very similar to what he did against the Patriots when he was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta.
He started throwing the ball when he supposed to be writing it.
Kyle Shanahan doesn't know how to close out of Super Bowl.
Jimmy Garoppolo gets the blame.
Just like Matt Ryan takes a lot of blame for the Atlanta los.
But when you look at a guy like Trent Williams, he's now going from sort of a overrated, mediocre quarterback to almost like a journeymen quarterback with Alex Smith, who starts in San Francisco, heads over to Kansas City gets traded.
Teoh Washington and now he on now travel.
Williams understands the importance of blocking for Jimmy Garoppolo and playing for a quarterback like him.
And really, for the first time in Trent Williams career, he actually sees an opportunity for himself to compete for Super Bowl.
And I think that that's a huge sort of.
That's gotta be big for a guy who has played in mediocrity.
And when you look in San Francisco, man, I know that a lot of people want to doubt them.
A lot of people want to call them overrated.
They want to just want to just run their mouths and say a lot of garbage.
But the team they're still playing with George Kittel, one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
You still going to be playing with one of the best defense is in the league? Yeah, you know, they lost the receiver, but they still got a running game and I San Francisco to me, it's still got to be one of the favorites to come out of the NFC.
The Tom Bradys played with Tampa Bay.
I don't care of Drew Brees is still there.
I don't care what you know.
They gotta play Seattle.
We know that Kyla Murray now has DeAndre Hopkins.
I'm not seeing the NFC is gonna be easy.
And if anything, the San France Coordinators division is not gonna be easy with the players and the teams that they need to compete with.
But when you have a defense and an offense as good a San Francisco's, they have a very, very, very good opportunity to be true competitors in the NFL and in the NFC and bring themselves back to a Super Bowl.
And I think that when you look at guys like Trent Williams, it's really strange that how do you adapt from going from mediocrity to, you know, almost supers****om in one step and be able to stay on top of, you know and stay on top of things? And I'm also really happy that we saw a lot of this offseason a lot of 40 Niners players, not Williams in particular, because he, you know, it actually wasn't in there with this whole thing was going down.
But, you know, a lot of people were doubt on Jimmy G after the Super Bowl in player after player after player after player came out in support of Jimmy Garoppolo.
So again, if you're gonna ask me, Ray, what's your overall expectations for the San Francisco 40 Niners? I would tell you that my overall expectations are is that they should be knitters in the NFC this year.
They should be guy.
A team that's ready to compete are ready to compete with every team that's gonna go up against them, even with having such a difficult schedule.
And I also wonder if San Francisco is now at a point where it's like a wind now situation, even though they have their franchise quarterback.
Even though you know there's got things together, there's gonna be guys that start to cost the money.
You got George Kittel, who they're gonna have to re sign.
Now he's saying that he doesn't care what the tight end market is. Yada, yada, yada.
But what we're starting to see is a lot of guys signing big money and we're seeing teams not wanting to move on from there.
Tight ends like the Chargers when they franchise take Hunter Henry and then we saw Austin Hooper side for big money in Cleveland, and I think that when you look at teams that are competitive, you look at teams that are always successful.
They have a tight end in the mix.
Kansas City s Travis Kelsey, the New England Patriots when they were in the Super Bowl. They have Rob Gronkowski.
You always have to have a solid, receiving tight end that can block.
And I think that George Kittel, even with Gronk back in the league because Gronk ate the Gronk front before with George Kittel, is the best over all tight end in the NFL.
And I know that Chiefs fans are going to show you like six videos of Travis Kelsey.
Blocking Kelsey to me is the best receiving tight end.
He's better than Kittel.
But when you talk about all around play, George kills the man.
What does that mean for San Francisco? It's going to cost them a friggin fortune when Kendall becomes a free agent, which means they are going to need to solve this issue that they have right now, or they're gonna need to solve any problems we have right now a compete and win now because once you sign Kittel you're going to start falling into this trap where it's going to cost you a ton of money and you're not gonna be able to keep this sort of core group together the way that you have in the past and everything's gonna go through it.
Look, the KC Chiefs returning Super Bowl champions bring it back there full almost their entire team that won the Super Bowl.
This is their last year that the 49 has already had to trade away Buckner to the to the Indianapolis Colts because they couldn't afford him one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.
And you're starting to see that snowball effect.
And how many times have we seen teams that compete for Super Bowls to really good for 12 or three years? All of a sudden, they have a total collapse because it starts costing a fortune the competitive because of the salary cap There, I think the days of Tom Brady taking these, you know, hometown discounts and making under $20 million a year so that you could sign people around him is done and over with that being said, just because they're in a wind now situation doesn't mean they can't win now.
It doesn't mean that I'm gonna turn around and think like all.
There's no way that the 40 Niners aren't a competitive team this year.
They're 110% a competitive team this year.
And I mean, we're gonna have to see how things really do roll down and where it goes in the end.
But, man, I mean, I would not be counting out the San Francisco 40 Niners.
