I'm saying, Fetterman, Host of the power on today I'm gonna be breaking down the best player in major league baseball for you, Michael Nelson.
Trap born Millville, New Jersey rocker.
Violent New Jersey in.
And he's just simply the best player in our generation.
There will be an article going up on Techno Hole, as you can see in the ticker at the bottom, where there will be comparisons, statcast numbers, everything you're going to see.
You're gonna see a lot of staffs.
A lot of it's gonna be a lot of numbers, but don't be afraid to read it.
It's I think I did a pretty good job with it.
So with today we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be taking a look at traps, statcast numbers and a couple a couple of videos that I want to look at that point to just what makes trout so good statistically and also just watching him when it comes to his statcast numbers.
This is his baseball savant page.
Well, I'm gonna go full screen on that.
This is baseball savant.
If you don't know what this website is, it z the database where they keep all the statcast data on the Internet.
You get exit velocity hard hit rate X whoa ba.
This is, um so weighted on base average.
It is an alternative to slugging percentage and on base percentage.
It uses, um, uses on base percentage scale, but with but it used slugging percentage.
It weighs extra base hits differently.
Expected batting average.
This is all based on exit philosophy and launch angle expected slugging, which is also it's same thing barrel percentage, which is the amount of the amount of hard hit balls he has started.
The amount No, not the amount of hard hit balls.
The amount of balls hit in the sweet spot that were hard hit, like the amount of the amount of balls that went off the right part of the barrel with the with an ideal launch angle in an ideal exit.
Velocity strikeout percentage.
Yeah, he's not the best of preventing strikeouts, but he's about average with it.
Very good. He's really fast.
Statcast does not like his defense, but a lot of other things do.
When it comes to Statcast.
You can see that these air, the batting stats that it that it tracks it tracks barrels, batted balls, barrel percentage, which is basically just barrels divided by batted balls.
Trout has been in the top 7% of the league for all that, and he was in the top 2% of the league last year, top 1% of lead in the year before that.
I believe that if and with exit velocity Trout has, there is very high. I mean 1990.
Despite it not being here in the top 20% of league, it's still very, very high.
As you see the league average for that is 87 a half. He's 90.
He's been at 90 ones.
That's pretty darn good.
You could see he took him.
Or you can see that this year he took a He took the approach of the higher launch angle.
As you can see, this is a breakdown of it this year.
You can see that he that is launched angle much closer to that, much higher than it was the previous years.
Much also more spread out there, and the exit velocity was pretty much the same over.
I mean, it was not be seen.
It was close, though, last year's and hit the sweet spot more often this year.
So maybe the new launch angle approach is really helping, which is a far cry from his from this from the line drive swings of 2016 when he's still yes, had the top 2% and expected batting average and all these numbers and what trap based, we decided 2015.
He struck out a heck of a lot.
And he I mean, he walked.
Do you walk a lot, But ever since then, he's just been walking and walking even more and striking out less.
It's the ball really hard and look at the X will be con expected.
Expected weighted on base average on contact.
Oh my God, it's insane.
See, you could tell that they love it, Obviously.
I mean, you see, sees a lot of fastballs, sees a decent amount of breaking ball, then it is a matter off speed.
And what does he do on and what does he do? Well, he'll take well, He struggles a lot more on the breaking calls, compared comparatively, but I mean, it's not like he's bad on the breaking probably still that's to 78 slugs 6 26 on breaking balls.
And when it comes to fastballs and off speed, just don't give them those he doesn't.
He does not with on fastballs.
I mean, yeah, he struggled a lot more on breaking pitches in in 2018 but he still hit 11 home runs on them and had an ex well over 4 20 hit them really hard plate discipline.
These numbers are really good.
You can see he the barrel rate with batted ball profile.
I mean, you could see just how crazy these are.
Look at this home run.
I'm years here, the field out, but it was 388 feet.
Here's that. Here's the home run.
When you hit the these barrels are going to be mostly, Their barrels are mostly long are gonna be mostly home runs or long outs.
There's a field out at 369 feet.
Here's a field out at 411 feet.
Ramon Laureano making that put.
Here's a grand slam at 458 feet, and, as we have said, he's in the top 2% of leading barrel percentage and most of your barrels are gonna be balls that are hit really hard and really far.
So is that you get there on the shift.
I mean, yeah, it's less effective with the shift, but he's still pretty darn good.
Resident still had the wo above about 400 last year and he was actually in 2017.
He was actually better with the shift than without the shift.
So I mean, don't shift and it's pretty useless.
That's above average, obviously not great over these past few years, But he's but he's one of the fastest men in baseball.
In the top in the top 40 fastest men in baseball, the barrels the ball second most barrels last year.
The exit velocity is high.
He's hit the ball hard at maximum as well.
If you look at his breakdowns, I mean, you see, it's gone up, just keeps going up.
You can really at the ball.
Yes, he did have a dip here in 2000.
You did have a dip here in X whoa Ba in 2018 and a 50 plate appearance stretch.
But I mean seriously, he's still it still brought that back up and made it insane.
We can show some more of these.
I believe if we go no zones.
Yeah, There we go.
Here's something interesting what Mike Trout likes to do when my trap strikes out.
Here's the strikeout rates right there. The with for eight.
And I want I want to zoom in on the exit Velocity right here and a batted balls.
Mike Trout likes taking these pitches low in the zone in the middle of his own and clobbering them.
Look at this 101 average exit velocity on these pitches.
I mean, he's just insane.
Barrels for swings.
There hits the ball really hard out of the lower part of his own average launch angle.
Obviously, he's like, If you take a look at where is the barrel percentage yet? I mean, just you it's ridiculous.
It's gonna be over here.
It's gonna be low on his own, and it's gonna be in the middle of the zone, gets his base.
It's Look, he does not have cold zones.
He just simply does not have a look at this.
He does not have cold zones.
I mean, here he has cold zones, but like, look at it, he's still just don't pitch him there.
This is obviously seeing home plate from the catcher's perspective.
Don't pick him. Low it out.
Ex Whoa! Ba is high everywhere except for up and in.
I mean, I see that you don't eat, you know that? You don't think he doesn't take those very much, but I'm on the zoom means doom and reset.
I do have some video that I'd like to show for Mike Trout that I prepared that I have prepared 1st 1 I would like just show is It's my It's Mike Trout against Actor redone the Angels against the Astros from 2019.
This isn't This is a very good is the decent up at to watch.
You'll see what happened.
I went to a full count.
Here's the 1st 8 years, the first pitch of the at bat.
Once it pops up trout with account, that's up.
Why, catcher said catcher sets up there is to catch her set up.
It's a low we don't just misses on the pitch.
As you can see there.
The trout smartly takes it.
So now he's We know this is to To what? I don't know. That's wrong.
The way slider state in the middle of that was weird.
This should be, Yeah, that was the first.
Here's the first pitch.
Just misses his own.
A little bit outside on his on his breaking ball.
I think that's a curve there and he just misses it outside.
Trout smartly takes leave now.
Okay, well, here's the 10 sets up, Sets up. Blown out.
We're don't clearly missing low and clearly missing outside here.
So whats Trout going to do? He's gonna look at this pitch, is going to see what's happened, sets up high it out now that last called strike.
But he's still ahead in the county.
Still got a favourable count.
But why? Why, Why are we at 10 again? Justin here and then now played yet? It's only one strike still grounded foul.
That's probably could have gotten that and ride, but he didn't lose first, which first swung out in the entire at bat.
I think that I think that is going to give himself that.
And especially once we know what happened later set up to once again setting up outside.
It's one he misses high and outside 96 on the fast book.
So then what's so then? What's he gonna do on the next pitch? Slider and changeup? That is for the missed high in in and Trout clobbered it.
Look at where the catcher sets up loan out.
Look, whoever's don't pitches hyeon in and Trout will clobber that ***** and look at how that is a no Doubter into the in the back of the Crawford box, actually, further back in the booth.
Just trust around here.
You see, Miss and Trap just love got ahold of me. Oh, yeah.
Trout has himself home.
Run right there.
Now let's take a look at another.
We're gonna take a look at another at bat that I wanted toe, which actually, this is just one pitch that I want to focus on because he absolutely clobbered it.
Work suckled on the mound.
You can see where we're gonna take a look at what a catcher sets up.
He sets up, he sets up mill in softball is the top of the ninth.
The Tigers are up by seven.
But, yes, the Angels are down to their last out.
It's a 11 pitch work.
Stop! Hold on the mound and he just and he and he sunk the pitch a little bit lower, lower than the catcher wanted it. And look at.
Look at trout looking.
It was just Oh, man, that is hailed a lot of power It at that ball was murdered.
This is This is the deepest part of the deepest park in the This is it.
This is one of the deepest parks of one of the deepest parks in the entire major league baseball season.
Just absolutely smoke that baseball booth.
Let's look at the statcast numbers on that one.
The pitch was 91.
7 miles an hour.
Put heat took it 114 exit velocity, 438 feet.
Just me murdered that baseball.
Mike Trout absolutely crushes baseballs.
And if you take a look at this zone from the catcher's perspective, yeah, you missed that one low in.
You could see where the catcher's you missed that one a little bit lower than it was a little bit lower than the catcher set up and Trout just book it two down.
So the next thing that I would like to show is Mike Trout going five for five against the New York Yankees and Sonny Gray Trump here, let's turn this volume limit down.
Talking about Andrelton Simmons.
OK, first of all, that's nuts for Mike Drought.
The first inning that they got a runner on Sonny Gray's pitching.
This is the year Sonny Gray was not very good.
And then we're Sanchez sets.
I think that snatches.
It might be row mine where they set up Sonny Gray and he just runs it in a little bit.
And Trout just takes it and clobbers it.
And Stanton? I mean, he's completely useless out there in left field.
You see, Cozart is going to score and trouts just gonna walking toward second Mike Trout here what he does on this pitch.
But Mike Trout does on this pitch just taking it to left field.
There's a useless Juncker, Useless Giancarlo Sandy make he makes stance and useless on this play, you could see if they're gonna show a replay on it.
You can see exactly where he missed. Look at this.
It just misses in, and Trout just takes it.
He's got that beautiful swing on a low inside stuff and he can just take it.
And boom, that's crushed in the left and look at Stanton.
He's got no idea what he's doing.
It is booms himself.
Another the wall.
Now it's a trust with traps standing on second.
Yeah, all right, So now here we go.
Let's take a look at where to catch her shut up again, setting up low.
And this time he This is right in the middle and he's and it's off speed.
And that's actually has a curve, I think.
And not just slices down.
Track and trout can played all fields.
He plays, plays in the right judge.
It just gets past Judge Miss.
Think you might have misplayed it a little bit, but once again, advancing runners, Trout gets another double.
You could see how much you could see this.
And Sonny Gray at this point.
Yeah, he was actually fishing decently.
Accept to Mike Trout.
So you look at that picture, We might see it again.
He just fed him a meatball.
Look at it. It's a meatball.
It just takes it.
When Mike Trout sees a meatball, he'll kill that meatball wherever you want on the field.
He sits back on that.
He sits back on that one and takes it into right field beautifully.
I mean, look at this.
Look at that. You look at the biggest stage in baseball.
Yankee Stadium, You batch 3 43 That's at that's nuts.
Easy and six homers in 18 games. That dude is.
And now he's okay.
At this point, you've still got Gray on the mound.
He's throwing his 84th pitched a 21 count.
There's a runner on third.
Trout is two for two with two doubles off of gray.
I mean, you know what's gonna happen here? Sets up and I mean again, That ball is right where we said trouts. Hot zone.
He fed it right to him, and that was murdered.
He's now three for three off of Sonny Gray, who remember, was an All Star in like 2015.
He's three for three off of Sonny Gray, with two doubles and a home run, and it was a murdered home run, and that was that was actually a decent pitch, but it was right in his hot zone.
Actually, they're saying it's not a good pitch, but I mean, nothing is a good pitch when you're pitching to Mike Trap.
I mean, that's probably I mean, yeah.
I mean, it wasn't a perfect pitch, but it wasn't a horrible pitch.
Except when you're pitching to Mike Trout, Look at it.
I mean, that ball obviously didn't have as much break on it as he would have hoped.
But that's still going to get a lot of guys.
A lot of guys they're not gonna want to sit are not going to sit on that as much as Trout is and he just sits on it and murders it.
Angels up 54 So now what happens to now? See now, the sixth inning.
Tommy Kane, lease Tommy Kane lease on the mound. Okay.
So what happens here that sets up high? Yeah.
I mean, just you can't leave him.
You can't leave him that pitch.
Just Gardner does a really good job catching up to that.
But Shout still gets the stand up double.
And that's his third double the game once again advancing Coz Art.
And at this point, you're just thinking, What can I do? Because you keep meat? They keep leaving in these pitches to hit.
When you give Mike drop pitches to hit, that is what's going to happen.
He south four for four at Yankee Stadium.
Mike Trout is a fantastic hitter.
He's the best hitter in baseball.
He's the best hitter in baseball.
You can't leave him a high pitch like that.
You can't leave him anything.
Look at that, man.
Let's skip over to the next step at Yeah, the O.
We discussed the opiates in the article that will be coming up.
So here's now Chasen Shreve on the mound. The left hander.
A serious set of this set of his low, and he just grounds any What's he gonna do here? He doesn't beats it out.
This is This is him just showing every part of his game.
I mean, all right.
Look at him. Look at him.
There is Mike Trap, best player in the league.
That is my that is gonna do it for my mike trap break down.
Make sure you check out the article that is gonna be posted on Techno Hole.
It's going to be make sure you check out the article.
It's gonna be posted on Techno Hole.
It's Mike Trout unparalleled.
It's going to compare him to a couple of all time greats, and it's also gonna explain some sense.
Also gonna do some statcast stuff.
It's gonna introduce a couple advanced stats to you guys if you don't know if you don't know your WRC Plus is Euro PS plus your total zone.
Well, we could have.
We couldn't use ultimate zone rating and defensive runs saved sadly, because they don't because, I mean, they're not being tracked for, um, the other three center fielders that I compared into.
And the thing that really stands out to me about my traps greatness is that I I have a mental block when I'm putting LeBron like putting LeBron James up so high and my rankings, I like seamlessly was like OK at my traps, One of the four best center fielder since integration.
Of course, he is like I have trouble saying something That's kind of stuff about LeBron James that he's like one of the best players of all time and, like he clearly is one of the best.
But like Mike, this just proves to me Mike Trout's greatness.
And obviously the 1000 P s the 304 105 100.
He's the best player we have in baseball.
One silver sluggers, seven of them.
He's 13 MBPs, and his worst season was one of his M v P seasons.
I mean, that's Mike Trout.
Thank you so much for watching.
Make sure you check out the article on technical.
I thought I thought I did a really good job on it.
This is being your mic drop breakdown.
I'm Sanford from the host of the power.
I thank you so much for what
