What's going on, everybody? My name is Joe new Beau, and we have my guys, Lawrence and Ray.
It is SportsCastr news, as always, guys today, the discussion is the Jaguars, even though there are many other things that are interesting enough to talk about, such as Joe Flacco, the former elite Dragon Super Bowl M V P.
God Jets, anyway.
Or there's also the Jamal Adams thing.
But it let's, let's why not? Let's talk about the Jags and C.
Henderson, Will C.
Henderson or, although hold on guys.
Before I get into that, I have to just do a quick precursor.
I have something coming in delivery, so if I have to leave for, like, two seconds, please forgive me, but I will be here anyway.
Let's get into it, man. The Jaguars.
So the question is, Will C.
Henderson improved its Jaguar's team, and I think the quick answer is no.
I mean, he's a corner and he could be the best corner in football.
I don't think that the Jags will be a good team this year.
Uh, now, when talking about the Jags, I have brought up that I am a fan of Gardner Minshew.
I think that he is going to win games for the Jags.
A lot more games than the Jags themselves are expecting to win, because I do believe there front offices looking a tank.
But of course, as we know, players usually don't tank.
And I think Gardner mention is going to screw that up.
Ah, it's gonna be kind of like the Dolphins last year.
You know that Ryan Fitzpatrick ends up getting more wins for the Dolphins, and they probably wanted, and they're probably not gonna get the first overall pick in next year's draft.
If I had to guess, just cause a gardener Mitchell.
Oh, that's what my You know.
That's what I think about it.
But anyways, guys, I want to hear your thoughts on this Jaguar's team.
Why don't we start off with Lawrence since he knows this Jags team very well as he is in the same division with them.
So, Lawrence, um, do you Do you have any fear of this Jacks team at all this season? Well, short answer saying that yours? No, but, um, look, I love C. J. Anderson.
I thought he was the second best corner coming out of college.
In my opinion, in this draft, I think he was the second best.
And even if he's the next Jalen Ramsey, that's one guy he could take out of the game.
Most teams now run three.
Wide receiver set on average, right? So who's covering number two and number three? You know who they got sitting deep for? You know, safety help.
Uh, the linebacking corps whose stopped the run.
They have a pass rusher.
Come on, Defensively.
This team ain't going to stop any a runny nose.
If they had a box of tissues, they couldn't stop one.
So why in the world would you think that one guy on this defense is going toe? You know, make some major improve? They were very happy.
Very happy that the Texans were like, We're gonna make your job easier.
Go ahead and give the best wide receiver out of this division out of the conference completely.
You know, that makes CJ's job a little bit easier because you don't have to play him.
They have a two or three more year rebuild left still on their system before they could even become relevant in any kind of playoffs.
Talks e I would agree with that.
I would definitely agree with that.
I mean, Ray, I'm gonna give you your time right now, but I I just wanted to add not toe.
I feel like everybody's forgotten that not so long ago, they were just in the A f c championship game, you know, almost, you know, had a good chance to make the Super Bowl.
Which is crazy to say now.
I mean, if you look at so many players, they've lost.
But, Ray, let's get your take on this Jags team Men.
What? What do you think in here? I was hoping you would just forget I was on the stream.
You'd be after decoration.
Ah, listen, the Jacksonville Jaguars needed to replace Jalen Ramsey.
That's the for That's the number one thing.
There was no chance in hell they were gonna get jefa Kuta from Ohio State, even sitting at the number nine spot.
So they needed to replace him.
Henderson, the best available cornerback in the draft.
It does he make the pate or the Jaguars secondary better? Yeah, of course He dies, right, of course, is going to improve it.
He's a great kid.
He's one of the best of the drop.
Does that make the Jaguars a better team in total? No, you, it's Ah, it's It's what it is. The kids.
I think he ran like a 439 40 which is just like, you know, the only time I move that quick is when I'm out of beer, you know, like it's that.
But I mean, there's a big hole in C.
Henderson's game A lot of people don't want to talk about.
They want to talk about his recovery speed, which is phenomenal, right? I think on a quarterback recovery speed is probably one of the most important things in the world cause if you get beat and you can catch up huge, his red flag is his tackling.
He's not a good tackler and if you're not a good tackler in your corner back, that's a big problems.
That means you have to tackle an open field.
Tackling is the hardest thing to do in the National Football League.
They did not replace Jalen Ramsey.
They found a formidable body to fill in opposition.
But they did not replace Jalen Ramsey.
And I don't want Jacksonville fans to be jumping around and screaming Duval and thinking that they got you know, that they got the next guy.
Um, because they don't And I mean, it is funny, cause they were in that 2017 a f C championship game against New England, which they lost put on the back of Blake Bortles.
Um, I remember before that game the fans we want Brady.
You know, um, the only upside But C.
Henderson has and the rest of the Jaguars have is that outside of the Indianapolis Colts, the Texans took a step back.
This year, they don't have to cover DeAndre Hopkins.
Tennessee doesn't really have wide receivers.
You got to stop Derrick Henry.
I know they have wide receivers by A.
Brown and he's been with us.
He's a solid receiver, but Henderson can take care of a J.
Brown, so that's the only hole.
But does that mean that they're gonna They're better than the Texans know.
Maybe they can have a split.
Siri's with the Titans.
I wouldn't be surprised if they got swept away in the swept by by Houston.
Have a split with the tax ins.
Ah, they're probably gonna win 567 games just enough so they don't get a really good draft pick, you know? So they're sort of middle of the pack, and I mean, look, it's it's unfortunate.
I'm sorry, Jacksonville.
I know you think you replaced.
Ah, you replaced him.
But are Jalen Ramsey.
But you did. You don't replace Jalen Ramsey.
You don't replace Tom Brady.
You don't replace Andrew.
Luck didn't replace Peyton Manning.
He was in good, formidable body, but he didn't replace Peyton Manning.
You don't replace Ray Lewis.
You don't replace.
It doesn't matter who you put in those kind of positions.
Those kind of guys don't get replaced.
Jalen Ramsey's one of them and you got a kid who can't tackle in open fields.
I mean, you know, sort sorry, Duval Nation.
This is just it's, you know, it's what it is in N.
You can't teach speed, but you can teach tackling, so it just depends upon what kind of coaching Jacksonville has in the secondary in order to get him to be able to be a bit more physical in the open field, as you were talking about.
Do the Jags still have duck? Marone is their coach Word.
I will throw out the biggest red flag about him playing under Doug Marrone.
I'm looking at his draft profile here.
I've looked at four different ones in his best trait in every single one is man coverage.
And why do Jalen Ramsey get ****ed? Because they kept plain zone known.
So they've got another kid, Great man coverage.
And they're gonna play zone defense as long as Doug Morones there.
I mean, I think when we talk about Jackson, I'll throw this to you guys, maybe to give your opinions.
And Lawrence, you probably know the best of this, but we like the pope find laugh at the Browns culture, you know, and all those kind of things that culture in Jacksonville is awful.
And getting rid of Tom Coughlin did nothing to change it.
You got the NFL p a telling their players not to sign with Jacksonville.
You got Leonard for net publicly asking for another quarterback.
Doug Marrone doesn't keep it in the family.
He decides to go out publicly and say that he needs to, you know, make good with Gardner Minshew.
How about the whole battle between Yannick and Got Quay and Ah and ah, what's his name? Tony Khan on Twitter? Yes, it is one thing after another after another after another with this organization, and honestly, as long as he's the coach.
Time Rosa coaches just going away. C J. Henderson.
The same way they wasted Jalen Ramsey after 2017.
Well, okay again in Jacksonville's defense, now in the coaching defense.
Ramsey, I think.
Yes, he was a better man. Coverage guy.
I completely and utterly.
No one's gonna argue that he's much better at man coverage.
But in today's NFL against these types of scrambling cornerbacks are quarterbacks that can take off on the run.
You gotta play zone more often than what you used to 10 15 years ago.
Zone is the only way that you're gonna be able to have your eyes in the back bill to make sure you know that the quarterback, if he takes off that you're able to react fast enough.
And that quarterback is not taking off 25 30 30 yard run.
And I understand when you're playing against the Texans, you need to have your eyes back there When you're playing against the Ravens, you need your eyes back here.
When you're playing against the Chiefs, you gotta have your eyes back there, right? And you.
And if you're playing man coverage, your back is towards that quarterback all day, Every day until that receiver looks up and puts his hands out, you're just following the receiver wherever he goes.
Can I give you a counterpoint on that? Sure.
I just want to read you something.
This is his drive profile.
This is a merino from the draft network.
But right before the show, when I was quickly doing my research, a lot of this was all saying the same.
And I love all your points that you made, and I think that from on paper you're 1000% right.
Here's the cons.
It's not a big one.
I mean, it's pros or I got on a fantasy in his prose or much you can't see it much thicker than his con But here's this call in Florence, a reluctant participant in the run game as a tackler appears to intentionally wide in his angle to the football to avoid getting involved as a finisher.
Guilty of pulling up.
Not to get involved is a tackler.
Multiple wraps could be found in the 2019 film.
First Miami, South Carolina.
Georgia doesn't get off contact well in pursuit.
So everything you need him to do, uh, he's you can teach tackling and you can't teach a guy toe want it? We all remember Cam Newton not jumping on that fumble of making that business decision.
If you're not getting involved in the run game, if you're not, get involved in tackling.
If you don't want to be a finisher as a cornerback, those air business decisions it's I don't want to hit.
Take that kind of contact while CJ.
You're a fast, talented player, but I got news for you.
You thought they hit hard in college.
Multiply that by about 100 now that you're in the NFL, because the hardest hitter in college every body feels like that.
That's my problem, Lawrence.
You hit it on the head.
That's what you need a guy to do. C.
Henderson, at least in college, was unwilling to do that well.
And with your point with the whole hitting thing A.
Brown, the basically the the only receiver like I was talking about on the Titans.
He's a big physical, wide receiver he's known for.
He goes up, catches the ball in its high point, and then when he comes down, he looks for the corner to knock him to the ground so that he could go up and take off some first in YAC Yards.
Is gonna have to change his mind set, get a little bit more physically mentally, and understand that he's going to have to commit himself in the sacrificing his body on a weekly basis in order to make place.
Otherwise, he won't last.
Well, the fact of the matter is, I don't think, you know, we talked about it earlier.
One man is not going to change anything.
They have so many holes.
They have so many holes on this team.
So honestly, like, yeah, if he has a problem with tackling and he doesn't finish, that's fine.
that's something he can work on himself.
But to be honest, I don't think it's gonna make a difference whether he can tackle or not.
I think everybody else is just not gonna be able to make Tax that he may even be.
You know, what, the best tacklers on the team, Because they just have such a bad defense.
Dude, they have Josh Allen, and that's it.
Really, like they have no other talent.
It's such a shame, especially looking back, you know, just a few years ago how talented this defense was.
But, um, yeah, I mean, I don't know what else there is to say about this Jack Steam.
To be honest, we couldn't Marone could actually help uh, C J.
Henderson and his ability and his mental faculties about getting a little bit more physical by just making him cover Leonard for Oh, yeah, There you go.
That's a good test for Net can play more than six games.
You know, maybe, I mean, in practice, go live, practice, live hitting and just be like all right, Your job is to tackle for net over and over and over.
Generous the Jags air like one of those teams.
I think only one year they weren't in the top 10 in a draft.
They're in the top 10 like, every single year, and they still can't figure it out.
And no, I understand that every fan base has these types offense.
But, I mean, when you talk about Duval fans Holy crap, they're still living high off of Saxon ville from three years ago when there isn't even a starter left on this defense from that three year go team.
Right? So I don't understand.
Is it fair to say that even though Houston should be there, the culture probably at least on paper right now, the best team in the division? Would you say that, Lawrence? I think so.
But I might be a bit biased.
No, I think you're right. I think you're right.
So here's I just want to I don't even know what this is going to say.
I'm just going to read it out, and then maybe you guys can take it over.
That's cool with you.
Um, guys, what happens when I'm doing research jury in the show? Just so you know what this comes from horseshoe heroes.
So this is a Colts publication in this last point.
How do they stock how to the Jacksonville Jaguars stack up against the Colts in 2020? Obviously, we think they're the best team in the division.
That's the team.
You've got to figure out how to stop, right? The Jacksonville Jaguars were clear sellers before the start of free agency, and they want to get younger across the boards.
In this instance, it's fair to call this a rebuild.
The trenches looked pretty well set up for the future, especially with the defensive line consisting of Hamilton, Josh Allen and chasing um for the future.
Haven't Schobert Myles? Jack at linebacker is good, too, And adding Bartsch to potentially play tackle officer John Taylor was a smart move.
You could bet the Jaguars want to see what Minshew can do for another season.
So many ****ysts believe this team is in tank mode to go for a top quarterback in next year's draft.
But don't sleep on a young, talented defense with solid weapons around their quarterback.
The Colts clearly have the advantage, had the head but a better quarterback in a fantastic off with a better quarterback in fantastic offensive line.
Expecting Indianapolis to come away with two wins is fair.
Especially with the Colts having much more experience as a unit.
I just love how they just beef up Jacksonville.
There was like, but the Colts are gonna be fair assessment, Lawrence.
A little bit, I think outside.
They need to get another weapon outside of chart.
Uh, wide receiver wise.
Um, they still Yeah, they have Jack.
They have in Kagwe.
They have ah, Allen.
You know, on that defensive line put outside of those and then Henderson and Birch, uh, still got to see, um I think they're gonna have safeties.
And the rest of the cornerback group is not good.
So I mean, yes, they're decent in the front.
Said that they've always been decent in the front seat of Jacksonville.
Has always been, you know, one of those teams that were you one week you might be able to run against him the next week.
You might not be able to.
The loss of Colli s Campbell is huge.
You cannot underestimate that.
That is a massive guy who plays football the right way.
You know, he kind of reminds you, you know, talent and size, wise of like, gnomic ensue, but without the stopping on heads.
Right? You know what I'm saying? There was times where I watched Campbell go right up the middle of the course offensive line.
This was, I think, in 2018 back when the Colts had the least sacks in the NFL with with Andrew Luck and I washed Campbell.
Get right through the middle of that defense or offensive line bear hug, Andrew Luck.
And instead of taking him down with his 300 plus pounds, he just held him there, didn't pick him up and just held him in a little bear hug.
Not even hard and kind of whispered deluxe years.
And you've seen Lux film that go up and down like all right.
Now, you know, that shows you the kind of player and person that Campbell is.
And that's the kind of player and person you would want in a locker room to bring a good solid.
What's that word that I'm looking for? A veteran Leadership? Yeah.
To tend the crazy are getting is that they gave us gave them to us for 1/5 round pick.
Yes, if I know we're under Ravens.
Yeah, I understand schools.
Er I understand he's older, but still 1/5 round pick.
And anyway, so I wanted, you know, from an outsider's perspective, looking at the A F C. South.
I think it's an interesting division.
Um, I think I do think the Colts are the most talented team roster wise.
I don't think they have the best quarterback in the division.
I would have to still give it to DeShaun Watson.
Um, with probably I would probably put rivers above Tannehill slightly slight.
It's a very slight, and even that could change this year, but I would still say the Colts, probably the Titans do have are pretty close.
Talent wise, they have a good team.
They have a pretty good team.
But I still think the Colts have the better offensive line.
You have rebels, a good coach as well, so I think from the outside looking in, if I had to guess, I would probably say the Colts would win with Titan's second and the Texans third and obviously Jack's fourth.
If I had to just you know, not looking at schedules or anything, just from appear roster standpoint and how I see the teams, I would say, um, colts probably would win that division.
Yes, I can't honestly see this.
He South rolling out three teens with at least a 500 record or better.
It's possible I could see a 10 and 69 and 7 18 18 coming out the A F C South.
Yeah, Messe Fair.
Did you know that? Gardner Minshew.
It's second in the league, only behind Lamar Jackson for scramble yards from last year.
Yeah, I didn't like I knew he was mobile.
I didn't realize he was that mobile.
He's ahead of Russell Wilson and Josh Allen, who I thought we to top scramblers outside a Lamar.
But Lamar had 430 scramble yards.
Gardner mentioned 350 scramble art yards last season.
I mean, obviously a big discrepancy between Lamar and everybody else, but the fact that he's sitting ahead of Russell Wilson and Josh Allen actually really surprised me when I just saw that.
What what if they run the Lamar Jackson offense? That would be interesting with Minshew.
I mean, obviously he doesn't have the same speed and athleticism, but well, according to Jags wire since you brought that up.
Oh, there you go.
While fans shouldn't expect him to utilize a lot of design runs from issue Gruden because Jay Gruden is now the the coordinator for Jacksonville, right? Yeah.
Gruden certainly will be mindful of the young signal callers abilities with his feet, however it will be.
The progress Minshew makes is an arm talent that Gruden will look tomb or to improve.
I so forgot they have Jay Gruden as her Hosea.
No, Uh, I'm I'm pretty high.
I watched both his games.
I watched quite a few games from into.
Obviously, I watched Ah, how they played late in the same thing against the Colts.
The kid commit place and he can make plays with two or three guys d****d on him.
That's the thing.
He's always looking to get rid of that football downfield.
Even yes, he can run.
He could scramble, but I remember watching one play where his offensive line just completely and utterly broke down around him.
He's scrambling around, kind of just shaking off arm tackles gets up near the line of scrimmage has two defenders d**** on him, bringing him down and he throws a touchdown.
You know, it's like 12 yards or something like that.
But he threw a touchdown, and I'm looking at that going.
That kind of reminds me of what you would expect from DeShaun Watson.
You know, so meant you.
Now he has yet to prove that he can.
He can live up to the style on Watson, obviously, but, um, Menchu has the ability to do a lot of good for Jacksonville.
And I understand why Marone wants toe move on, move forward with mensch.
You rather than you know.
Everybody's like, Well, he they might tank and they should go out and get Cam Newton in or whatever.
You know, I understand why he has face.
And then she mention showed a lot of promise last year, but he needs to make better decisions in the past game.
Yeah, and I think Mitchell's place.
So I was just actually looking at an article here called Five Factors to make or Break the Jags in 2020 and point number one is Gardner.
Men should play right is that is good as he's looked he needs, and I don't know what they're saying.
This is my opinions.
Is that as good as he's looked? We've talked about on this show before that there's been a lot of inconsistency two men, shoes game and A Z long as and And that's where stats aren't telling the whole story with him.
Um, I'll probably look up his Devi away in a minute.
That's usually a little bit more telling than what the signs are, and they're basically guys like for I mean, two of us, me and Joe, who really know nothing about both the Jaguars and Lawrence who you know it because of association.
We've been hitting it pretty much on the head.
The five keys that they have.
Gardner Minshew play the Jags defense transition using more 34 looks trying to get in.
They need a solid performance from their last two draft classes.
I mean, this is everything.
Growth on the offensive line and then staying healthy is the only thing we didn't talk about was I'm going to stay healthy.
But first of all, this is why we This is why we get paid the big dollars people because we're professionals.
We just were tester news.
We just right here.
Just confirmed everything that we say.
Well, yet we have an endless array of knowledge address that we sometimes don't even know that we have.
Yeah, that's true.
So, I mean, it's, you know, C.
Anderson to play as well as you want.
If they're going to do anything this season and not be a tank team or not be a you know, it's six or seven win team.
It's gonna come down to garner Minshew.
Yep. Absolutely so.
One more topic guys since this just popped into my head.
Um, earlier today, I was listening to I think it was pro football talk and they were talking about who the third best a F C team could possibly be.
And I wanted to get your guys takes on it really quick.
Um, they brought up teams like the Chargers.
They brought up teams like the Texans, but I don't think that they will be Ah, yeah, and, um, that same that Chris Simms most likely, you know, he's I'm sorry, grass for a second.
I don't think, and I understand that I do something similar to what he does, and I try not to criticize other broad, like broadcasters, professional or guys like us.
You mean like the, you know, the the online guys because I know the kind of criticism we take for our stuff.
So I tried to, but I see this so passionately.
Chris Simms has to be the worst ****yst in football.
Like the things that he said, The Chargers third best team.
Well, let's Yes, I I agree, but at least at least since has an opinion and rule.
And if somebody has an opposite opinion, he will die GREss occasionally.
But the guy opposite of him, his head and so swollen that he's never wrong.
Eso I'm just throwing that out.
I forgot his name anyway.
So So what do you guys think? What do you think the third best a F C team could possibly be? I think it's obvious the Chiefs and the Ravens right now looking like the two best.
Um, I don't think it's too crazy to say the Colts can be there honestly.
And I actually agree with you.
I think it's a colt with the Bills, the bills as well.
Yeah, even though I'm not as hot on them is, you guys are.
Yeah, but the call.
I don't think it's too crazy to say the Colts because, like I said, the only question mark I have about this team is Philip Rivers.
The rest I know is gonna be fine.
The defense is very solid.
The offense is good.
Like Philip Rivers is literally my only question mark about. And that.
And that's the only real question mark the Colts fans has about this Gina's.
I mean, I'm telling you, I'm telling you, uh, from all three levels of the defense, the Indianapolis Colts have good, very good or star players.
Um, offensive line.
They've got star players, wide receivers.
They have good, very good potential star players running back, solid running, backing corps, especially with Jonathan Taylor coming, and we have yet to see him.
But you know the question, Marcus, that, obviously.
And who's going to be kicking field goals? Oh, they Yeah, that could be, You know that.
That's also another thing that you know, you don't A lot of people don't bring that up.
That is a very very important part of an NFL team.
The courts lost three games last year, and I'm not gonna say it's because of Adam Bennett Terry, because it takes a whole team to lose.
But military NIST, some field goals, some of them really bad, right? And that crying at your river.
We had four kickers last year.
Way had he had to.
You know, I won't say anything, but anyway, but Chase We had chased McLaughlin.
Come in the next one field goal the entire the rest of the season, you know, from like, four games on.
I hope he plays for the Colts, but we also went out and got reverie.
So So just so you know, I love Rodrigo's Blankinship.
He was my kicker coming out of the draft.
I wanted the Patriots to take him.
Not the white supremacists, whoever He took your name.
I wanted Rodrigo's Blankinship so bad.
I think you got the best kicker in the draft and he's your starter this year.
You guys, I think you guys should be pretty solid.
That kid outside of fifties unbelievable.
And I know okay.
Missed a couple kicks here and there, but I think anybody's got the pressure to kick it from over 50.
You know he'll be fine.
So just just wanted to throw that in there.
I love Blankinship.
Yes, it's a shame when other teams have a problem with kickers.
You know, I I don't really know anything about that.
But anyway, Wide writes wide right, I I want to give my opinion.
Aren't gonna get my okay. Go ahead, Rick.
So I have no problems with you guys saying the Colts or the or the Bills.
I won't argue either one of those teams, but I have to throw 1/3 team in there.
I mean, we have to.
It probably won't happen, but on paper, they should be the Cleveland Browns.
On paper, it should be the third best team in the A F C from top the bottom offense defense.
The names on that list there.
Unfree gin, believable.
They should be competing, not just the third best team on paper, and I'm making this clear on paper, right? They should be competing with the Kansas City Chiefs and them, and and the Baltimore Ravens for who's the best team in the A f C.
It's just been such a pathetic organization from an organizational standpoint that they're wasting the amount of talent they have.
If I turned around and told you any other team besides the Cleveland Browns, we're going to start this season with Baker, Mayfield, Odell Beckham, Jr.
Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Austin Hooper.
You know Myles Garrett, all these different guys.
Would you turn around and say, Oh, they're going to suck? No, you If you're a Ravens fan, you're going to sit there and go **** like this is somebody who is going to test Baltimore.
Unfortunately, because it's Cleveland, I have to say on paper, I believe they could be that third best team or possibly compete with the Chiefs and the Ravens.
Unfortunately, they are the Yeah, yeah, I want, I want to say real quick.
I agree that on paper they they should be fighting for that third or second or first.
But reality is there, fighting just to be third in your division, who that I don't I don't agree with you and it's sad.
It really is just appear football fan, and somebody who hates the Ravens does appear football fan I want to see a team like that succeed.
I'm not gonna cheer for them.
But I want to see Ravens in Cleveland.
Games means something more than they already do.
You mean to great offenses? Think about it.
If Cleveland lived up to its full potential, think about those clashes between the Great Steelers defense in Cleveland.
You know Lamar Jackson? First Baker made so that division could be the most entertaining division in the world. Toe watch.
And yet we could get the Week 10 and the Browns will be irrelevant.
And Joe Borough? Who? I still think it's gonna be a draft bust.
But if he proves me wrong and Joe good luck.
I hope it does not you, Joe the rial. Jones.
Yeah, Joe, Good luck.
I hope you do prove me wrong.
He could be outperforming Baker Mayfield.
And that makes me sad.
That makes me upset.
Outside of the offensive line, they have a Dallas Cowboys esque offense.
I mean, that says it all right, there they do.
So if this man it's that whole, they got to come together and that's they they gotta trust in one another, and that's a big deal.
That is a huge deal, trusting one another understanding.
Do your job trust the guy next to you to do hiss.
Year after year, I have heard from the Browns.
Oh, look who we signed.
Look who we traded for.
Look who he drafted.
And year after year, it's the same **** thing.
They don't live up to expectations because they are the Browns, and it's unfortunate, but that's how it is.
That's how it's always been.
You know, is ever since I've been watching Ravens football, that's always how it's been.
Now, granted, they give us trouble.
I mean, you guys remember they were one of our few losses are only are only two losses in the regular season was against the Browns, and I had I had said to Brown's fence right after that week.
I told them, That's your Super Bowl.
I hope you guys enjoy that win.
Lo and behold, I was correct because they only won four games for the rest of the season.
So I'm just saying, you know, and I think that, you know, if I was a Ravens fan, I'd want Cleveland to be the way they are as Well, you know what I mean.
Our friends, a Steelers fan, whatever.
Just like it was a patriot fan.
I've got no problem that Buffalo, New York, and the Dolphins have been a joke, You know, really well, the Patriots played an easy division.
Well, I mean, the culture late in any easy division.
I mean, Peyton and Brady probably had cake walks through their divisions to get them each other.
The only time those two were ever tested is only played each other the frickin Ravens, you know, I mean, it was the only time there's a charge.
The charges were pretty going at the in the Philip Rivers heyday, when they have breather pretty good.
And lt just, you know, yeah, it's but outside of the division, though, you what? I mean, like, it's I want to see the But I would love to watch the Brown.
I want Look, I and I know that the Browns are always going to give the Ravens trouble. Just like Miami.
Always give the Patriots trouble when they're on two wins on the season.
But, I mean, that's gonna happen.
Division games you could never tell, but from an outsider on watching Sunday Night football or or a four o'clock game.
I think about the magic.
That could be especially with Joe Borough now was Cincinnati.
I think about what kind of magic that division could be.
And it's unfortunate that the Browns are probably going to be the Browns, you know.
And it it's too bad.
And it's almost very much like the A F C South, because with where India's this year and where sort of the Titans are DeAndre Hopkins staying in Houston and them firing Bill O'Brien before the draft and finally getting a real gem and coach again? Another opportunity for three great teams that could have made the division so fun to watch like the A F C East is gonna be fun to watch.
But for different reason.
It's gonna be which one of these bottom feeders is going to come out of this bad division.
You mean innovation at seven and nine at seven, and I will never let you live that down for the rest of your life.
You know? I mean and and you look around the a f.
C, though, and then you look at the a f c West, Another great division Raiders as Broncos are.
They may not be at the Chiefs level, but they're going to give them trouble and they're going in.
I think all our teams have to play them this year.
You what? I mean, so it's It's all gonna be tough games, but unfortunately left out the team that is vying for third best in the A F C. The charges.
Taylor is taking the O wearing my team over a year in your history and you know what they're If they did somehow win the Super Bowl.
That would be some vindication for me because I would call everybody who used to laugh in me way.
This is way before YouTube and stuff, But all my friends, when I used to say guards, I'm told you Tyrod Taylor is gonna dig Buffalo to the next level.
I'm telling you, and they would laugh at me and they still kind of every time I try to give a quarterback opinion now they're like like Tyrod Taylor Ray like vindication I would have I would just be taxing them all night after the Super Bowl Tyrod Tyrod tire, I tie God High God s Oh, it's yeah, but I have no problems again.
I have no problem with the colds being that third team.
Um, I have no problem with the seven and nine bills being that 30 and I'll have to I have to throw Cleveland there just because of their roster.
Seven point spoken to sing a little on the Cleveland thing with their whole the locker room issues and their personality problems and things of that nature.
This is why I am whenever I see fans say they want their team to tank that Cleveland right there is the prime example why I say you do not want your team to take you.
Want a fight? You want your team to fight weekend and week out.
Always wanting to win.
Always wanted to do your best because that losing mentality stays with you long term.
That's almost exactly what we were talking about today with the whole Brady in Tampa Bay thing.
How I think one of the problems they're gonna have is is, yeah, Tom Brady.
Screaming and yelling at you when you're winning is one thing, but when you've been a culture, that's not the Patriots.
I think Brady's act can get tiresome, you know, I mean very quickly for people who aren't used to it.
Um, that's why I look at the Patriots and say, You know what? They could surprise people this year.
But even if they're bad, they're not going to be bad for very long.
Just like the cold stone stay bad for very long.
The Ravens don't stay bad for very long.
You know, I know Georgia's want to hear this, but the Steelers don't stay bad for very long.
You what? I mean, it's those kind of teams, even Kansas City pre Andy Reid.
And you know, I mean, even with them, those kind of organizations seem to always find a way to be back into that competitive atmosphere.
All right, and Cleveland has never been there, and it seems that no matter who they have, they kind of stay.
Is that well, we're Cleveland Ever since I went to Baltimore, you know, it's been a disaster and clean.
All I hear from Browns fans is Oh, don't forget you guys or the Browns.
Don't forget like just let it go.
Jesus Christ, man, you guys have your history and everything.
Just just stop trying to live vicariously through an actually winning franchise, please.
Indiana has the same issue with a lot of the Ravens.
Oh, yeah, I'm sure.
But, Joe, let me ask you something.
Please never sit back.
And you guys have had success.
But since 2000 won two Super Bowls, right? And I say that like, it's nothing, but you know what I mean.
But you just do Verbal five.
Do you ever think like we could've had Bill Belichick? You could have been our coach.
Do you ever think that Because they fired him, right? Yeah.
He was on the Brown was right. He resorted.
He was the coach When Cleveland won their last playoff game, they won the playoff, got knocked out, and then he got fired when they moved to Baltimore.
That could have been crazy.
That could have been crazy.
But then the whole thing comes up.
That would we probably wouldn't have gotten Tom Brady.
And as we know, Tom Brady did make a Bill Belichick.
So I just He did not. And I will.
I will throw this out there that that 2000 team minus Ray Lewis, and they probably would have taken Ray Lewis was Bill ballot checks team that won the championship? You know what I mean? Um, 2000 was 2000 right? 1000.
Well, so their first year in Baltimore was 96.
They won the championship in 2000 didn't have some players, But, I mean, it was a lot of new, you know, drafted players.
But I always say that to people like, Well, you couldn't do with Cleveland.
I'm like If you could've got Ray Lewis, he would have won a championship.
That's what I always say.
If he would have gotten Ray Lewis, he that's what he was.
He was missing Ray Lewis.
That's who he was missing at that point, you know, but every team is missing.
Ray Lewis didn't in Cleveland.
They didn't have that linebacker like they didn't have that de facto.
If you look at every New England Patriots championship team, Teddy Bruschi, Dante Hightower, you mean to defacto um, guys? There's a reason that Dante Hightower's nickname is Mr February.
You know what I mean? And he may not be on that same sort of talking scale of Ray Lewis.
I also think a lot of that is because he's very quiet and he's not, You know, Ray Lewis.
Ray Lewis, Very animated, you know, almost cartoonish.
I'm not insulting.
I live right knows I love Ray Lewis.
But if you look at every Patriot Super Bowl victory, Dante Hightower made almost every huge play to kind of turn that thing around.
You know, everybody always talks about the Malcolm Butler interception.
The play before that, Uh, Marshawn Lynch had a whole this wide.
You know, you can't see my arms come freaking.
They can see my head either.
But, you know, they had a had this huge hole in high tower bench press the guy off of him and tackled Lynch on the next play was the interception or was interception.
Everyone talks about Brady in the 23 come back well after the Patriots made a 28 to 9.
Two plays later, Donte Hightower Strip sack Matt Ryan.
If you listen to the announcers, they're all like, Oh, this has changed the game for number 54.
He should have been in my eyes this the M V p of Super Bowl 53 So the Patriots have always had that.
The fact a linebacker.
And when you look at all like defensive heavy teams like the Ravens, Yes, Ray Lewis, you mean the Giants? Lt right? It was like you always have, Unless it's either it's gonna be Peyton Manning is going to throw you a Super Bowl or you have a de facto linebacker or sort of lying guy.
I know von Miller is not really a linebacker, but he kind of fits that role of that defacto guy, right? It's Ah, and that's exactly what Cleveland was missing before they went to Baltimore.
And then you got him and you won't have it because you have a de facto game changing defensive player.
That's what you need.
The Colts, when they went through their Super Bowl run, they got a healthy Bob Sanders during that period.
Yes, and changed everything.
I want to go back to what you said Ray about.
The Ravens could have won multiple championships with Belichick.
I didn't say that.
I just said, Would you have been happy, which you would you have her cell pellet check? No, but you didn't say that.
So I actually believe There was three years we could have won three Super Bowls, so we could I could be sitting here with five Super Bowls right now if we had just a few things.
That gun right? The 1st 1 I'm thinking of its 2006.
The game we lost in the playoffs was against freakin Peyton Manning and the freaking Indianapolis Colts, because we held him to 18 points.
But our offense had Kyle Boller starting, I believe, and we couldn't even put up enough points to, and that defense was sick in 2006.
I mean, probably if not as good as the 2000 defense up there.
I don't know, Ray Lewis said, that nobody will ever be able to do in Mimic.
I think you just said it yesterday that nobody will ever be able to mimic or do what the 2000 defense did.
And I mean, that 2000 defense was disgusting, disgusting, best best in NFL history, in my opinion.
But anyway, the next year 2011 and I hate bringing this year up because this was this was the wide right year with Billy Cundiff and I just I hate Oh, this game ****es me off against the Patriots.
We should have won that game.
Well, in reality, you caught a touchdown to Exactly.
Well, Lee Evans dropped it, man. Wow.
You really gonna caught it across the goal line.
Then they knocked it out of his head.
That should probably should have been a touchdown.
Well, I mean, but, I mean, I had no problems with the call, obviously.
But even I got there and went.
That was a touchdown.
That was our second loss of the Giants in the Super Bowl, so Oh, yeah, I don't like Rick Dependents.
I don't like talking about 2011 either.
In 2012 we got over the hump.
And then in 2014 when we had a 14 point lead over the Patriots twice, I feel like we could have gone all the way.
But we had no secondary, as the Patriots saw and took advantage of.
So, anyway, I digress.
The 2014 year, though, was very much at the 2000 and six year 2016 year, very much like the 2012 year for Baltimore, a Super Bowl 50 for Peyton.
I find in the NFL there's just teams that are destined to win in 2014 seem like it down.
14 twice the Baltimore down 10 going into the fourth against Seattle.
The whole deflate gate nonsense coming off to the indie game.
You? I mean, um, let's not forget 2014.
Was the Kansas City blowout a Monday Night Football? When you when I'm sure both you and the rest of the NFL universe declared the Patriots dynasty over and what you forgot was No, it was the start of the second dynasty, right? I don't say I'm not a Patriot fan that says 20 year dynasty.
I'm like we had the first dynasty.
Then we had a really good run.
And then we started the second dynasty in 2014 when we haven't been it.
If we're dynasty for 20 years, we would have won championships between 2005.
In 2014 we lost three, but you would have one.
You have to win them to be dynasties.
The problem was, Peyton Manning retired, and then there was just nobody standing in.
But here's the thing in 2014.
In 2015 is Peyton Manning's last year, despite him actually losing his job.
The Brock Osweiler for a little bit.
You what? I mean, uh, they go to the championship.
They beat the Patriots in the A F C Championship game.
You wanna talk about kickers? Lawrence? Stephen Gostkowski misses the extra point on the first touchdown of the game.
On the first drive of the game, the Patriots lose by one point.
You know what I mean? But it was like almost like destiny get paid in their win it.
2016 Brady suspended for the 1st 4 years.
What happens not only in our 1st 4 games.
Holy crap for years.
For your circuit.
Suspended for the 1st 4 games.
Gets to the Super Bowl.
Not only gets the Super Bowl goes down, 28 to 3, comes all the way back.
What was significant about 2012.
Ray Lewis is flat.
You want talk with last dance? I hate that.
They call it the last dance for Jordan because the last dance was in 2012 when Ray Lewis did on the Super Bowl stage.
That was the last adds preach But when you look at the NFL, there always seems to be destiny.
The Saints and I know Lawrence isn't gonna want to hear this.
But the Saints, they were destined the win that year, right after the her the Hurricane.
It was the greatest thing that could have happened in New Orleans.
Yeah, Patriots in 2001 after 9 11 Yeah, 9 11 and the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl with their red, blue and silver on.
I believe in Destiny, and I hate.
Look, I hate saying this Kansas City after the way they lost.
There's a championship in overtime and they were almost destined to win it this year.
You know, Um, and it's really, you know, And he almost looked like a Lamar Jackson, where I almost feel like he needs to lose one more playoff game.
What I mean to be like, No, what I'm saying to be like, Okay, now it's Destiny outs like all right, you know what? Yeah, F all of you.
I'm going up and I'm doing it.
But you see it every year.
It's just like it's a destiny thing.
And it's weird how the NFL works like that and I mean, they shut the lights out on the Ravens and let San Francisco come all the way back.
I mean, after ah, what's his name? Ran it all the way in for a touchdown on the opening kickoff of the second half.
I'm like it's over, Jacoby, right? It's over, It's done and the lights go out.
And all of a sudden it's a game.
You know, all the momentum, which is We were the team that almost blew that.
The biggest lead and Super Bowl 26.
But a lot of that had to do with lights going out.
A lot of that was a change of momentum.
What it was destined for Ray Lewis toe leave a champion like it was destined for Manning to leave a champion.
And it's really gonna irk me to say this, but maybe it's destined for Tom Brady to walk away with his seven championship.
One more than talking.
And Bill Belichick is a head coach.
I hope that he has a noodle arm and looks like you know what I mean.
And, uh, but I mean, it's just to me the or is it.
Drew Brees is final dance this year.
You mean, like look around the league and you kind of look at that stuff.
Everything stacked against Drew now, right? Tom's in the is in his division.
The team, goes to the division, and he's an old man.
He can't beat the Minnesota Vikings they've actually had through devastating playoff eliminations in a row.
I'm calling it now.
Not because I think they're the best team just because of the way the NFL works.
And I think it's a little rig sometimes, UM, in order. States.
New Orleans Saints win in the Super Bowl this year.
Drew Brees retires with a second ring.
There it is, Ray said.
It and esteem just because that whether it's the football guards, whether it's dynasty, whether it's whatever it is, Goodell, whether it's ghetto and I shouldn't say football guides, I apologize.
I mean, honestly, it's not that big of a stress to say that the New Orleans Saints can get to the Super Bowl.
I mean, they are one of the better teams in the NFC and any given Sunday.
The New Orleans Saints can be any other team in the NFL, so I don't see how this is.
If someone says I got the Saints and the Ravens in the Super Bowl, I could see it.
I could see that, right? I could see the Saints in Kansas City who were the same thing.
I'm sorry, Buffalo.
I could see the same.
I could see Buffalo making it to the Super Bowl, the first step in the 1st 7 win team.
The win, the super get right, looked at me and I don't need to be met, but I wouldn't even commit.
To be honest, I know what Who.
Buffalo starts their new fourth, four year in a row over off.
Yet win in your own.
That would tell me, Tell me how great this would be.
Brady goes to the Super Bowl in faces.
Buffalo e think Brady's got his record against Buffalo is like 25 1 you know what I mean, Pete? Um oh my God.
And he'd be in a beep, Iranians, but But I think there's a lot of like there's a lot of things I think that need to happen from an entertainment value, which which I hope get Del pulls the right strings and makes it happen.
Like I think that in a playoff game, Brady and Garoppolo gotta play each other, right? Just from a pure drama standpoint, Um, I love to see, you know the Grapple with, and we can call it the passing of the torch.
You know, Brady officially passes the torch to Jimmy G, and then he could lose to Drew Brees in the championship game.
And then he can, you know, beat Patrick Mahomes in the championship and say, because Lamar needs one more loss, then you guys will win the Super Bowl next year.
What? I'm calling you just one win in the people that so no need the loss because he needs to go in the in the force.
Ground thieves owning your fourth.
Everybody's saying he can't win a playoff to from now.
Three is definitive.
No, but you know what I mean.
You can't write, even though I just did.
You can't write drama in the NFL, the way things work out sometimes, whether it's 22 3 comebacks or the way things line.
Oh, and just you know the way things always work out it's That's why I love football, man.
It's why I just I love the game of football.
If there's one team that I think we can all agree on, will not be in next year's Super Bowl.
Henderson led Jacksonville Jaguars, right? 100% correct.
Well, I think we should end it here.
It was a lot of fun.
Any closing thoughts? You guys want to get out there? Lawrence? Um, I think that have Doug Marrone could go out there and I mean, he did.
He did a good job of getting starting at least to get rid of all those big personalities trying to build that locker room, that culture that he wants long term.
And if he continues on that road, good luck.
Whom I would love to have.
Ah, 14 division that it's fighting with each other.
I mean, you already.
You know, division games are already tough enough, but four good teams in the division would be nice to have it.
Just it ain't gonna happen for a couple of years.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle, Seattle, Seahawk themselves.
And they had a great culture in 2017.
They had a winning culture.
They believed in Blake Bortles.
The team believed in Blake Bortles the same way the Ravens believed in Trent Dilfer.
Ray Lewis said it. They did not want him to get rid of turning Dilfer.
Yeah, if you look at that Jaguars game.
When they lost in 2017 they started started.
They started handing the ball off the four net and stop throwing the ball.
And Jalen Ramsey and all the boys said they should have kept it in Blakes hands.
The culture died that night.
Doug Marone should not be.
They got rid of the players rather than the problem.
That's my opinion.
Alright, guys. Well, I think we'll end it on that.
You know, a lot of good discussions as well.
Um, so thank you all so much for coming out.
This has been SportsCastr news.
I am Joe New Beau, and we will catch you all next time.
