Welcome. The SportsCastr News.
And with me today is my associate rare out today.
We're gonna go ahead and go over basically the 1st 1 of the big games in week one.
Right? Um, earlier this week had a little bit of Ah, a little bit of jab in between a couple guys.
Sean Payton apparently was, was talking about how he wants to quiet the cannons down in Tampa Bay on the 9 13 game Week one at was 4 15 So it's not even a prime time game, But, I mean, it is against Tom Brady ground Bruce Arians, All them guys.
Brady shoots back.
It was like, Yeah, yeah, you're But we're the underdogs.
So blah, blah, blah, you know? And to be honest, I get why Brady would say that because, quite frankly, in my opinion, they are the underdogs, you know, And and it kind of takes a little bit of pressure off him because, well, let's face it, he's on a new team.
He's got new coaching staff new players has gotta work with, and he even able to get get around to getting to with most of those people because of this whole Kogan 19 situation, it's And yet Drew Brees.
He's gonna have his entire He knows his offense.
He knows everything about it.
Um, so you know, there's a good chance that he'll come right out the gate, firing on all cylinders, whereas Tom will still be getting used to things.
So what are your thoughts on this, right? Well, I mean, first of all, Tom Brady always needs to be the perpetual underdog.
He always feels like he needs to play with a chip on his shoulder.
They do it for motivation, even when the Patriots are favorites.
He always kind of looked at the team is underdogs what we have seen? No.
When he does feel like people are counting him out or when he feels like the team is being disrespected, it elevates him if we all go back to the divisional round game against the Chargers in 2018.
Before they went to the A F C championship game against Kansas City, his interview was quite simple.
They asked about the game uses.
Yeah, I know that people think we suck in that.
We can't win anything but you know, we'll see.
And that's the Tom Brady thing.
That's what motivates, and that's what makes them go.
But I agree with you 110% Lawrence and we've talked about this many times.
Here on SportsCastr News.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 1st 4 weeks of the season are not gonna look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week 15 and week 16.
Ah, good for Tom Brady getting some of the boys out together, running through some plays, learning the playbook.
But we seen the New England Patriots have slow starts because they're still trying to get in rhythm with Tom Brady.
Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time.
He is not the great, the easiest quarterback to play for.
That's what I should say. He's very precise.
If anybody watched our show last night, we discussed this.
How he was talking to receivers about not cutting on the fifth step step but cutting on the fourth step.
That's gonna be a lot for guys like Mike Evans and Chris Goodwin.
Who are you suggest flying up the field on seam routes and Jamis Winston throwing it as far as you can, either hitting them are thrown an interception.
It's, you know, it's the way it is now.
I believe that Tampa Bay is very lucky.
They're going to New Orleans Week one.
So during their struggle period, they get to go on the road.
If this game would have been in Tampa Bay, I think that number one, it could have taken some wind out of the Tom Brady sale in Tampa.
If New Orleans was able to go in there and beat them, they host him again on November 8th.
By then, the offense should be starting to click for Tampa Bay a little bit, so I think they caught a break in the schedule.
That way, I think it would have been awful tohave to host New Orleans on week one, when things probably aren't going smoothly.
And then in Week two, when things were going better, having to go down to the dome and play, you know, in front of the who dat nation uh, I'm assuming by November 8th we may see at least partial crowds back in the buildings, and that building is made for noise and that those Louisiana boys could get loud and they can go.
So Ah, I believe Brady caught a break here, and I think that this week one game is not gonna live up to the hype that has that people are gonna have for the Brady versus Breeze.
It's not like it's never happened before.
I think we've seen it three times.
Brady versus Breeze.
I believe that Brady has bested Breeze every time that they've played, so it's not like this is even a rubber match.
If they were playing, the Green Bay Packers were. Right.
Now, it's one win apiece between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.
There might be a little bit more intrigue, but one of the things, obviously, that makes this game so great.
Now it is not just Brady versus Breezes.
The Buccaneers vs the Saints.
It's a division game with the two teams that are probably Favorited.
The win that division and as much as a week one game means nothing.
This could mean a lot when you're heading into the final part of the season because of Tampa Bay is able to go in there and somehow pull off a victory if we start looking at tiebreakers.
Those road victories are much more important in those home victories.
And like you said, this isn't necessarily This isn't Tom Brady versus Drew Brees? This is this Tom Brady vs the Saints defense.
What do breeze first of the Bucks defense and Tom Brady does not have the New England defense to bail him out if things start going wrong like he used to, you know, especially last year.
So in Tampa Bay's defense is nowhere near the way New England's is nowhere.
It's not even in the same stratosphere, but he's got a lot more weapons on offense with him.
This could game could turn into bit of a, ah, shoot out.
It really could in Week one.
But I agree there's a reason why this game was scheduled at the four o'clock slot rather than a prime time slot.
Whereas that November game that you're talking about is a prime time slot.
It was well scheduled by the NFL on that situation.
Um, a lot of people are like, Well, Drew Brees is is done because he didn't even throw 3000 yards Last year, Drew Brees missed five games with a busted thumb And then if you go and look at his how he looked when he came back from that busted thumb from Week 11 the week 17 he posted an average of about a 1 20 q b r.
I mean, my goodness, he came back stronger than what he did before he left.
So I don't see an issue with Drew Brees and his age at this point.
Especially, he's got the whole off season so weak, weak in the November game.
That might come into effect because these guys are getting a little bit older, so their arms might be starting, you know, get a little bit tired.
So, um no, I think really, this matchup isn't about looking at Drew Brees vs Tom Brady.
I want to see the Saints defense against the Buccaneers offense.
I want to see how that turns out.
I think that's going to be a very good match up to watch.
I agree, and I think that I also want to point out a couple of different things right now.
This game is very important for both teams, and I know again it's hard to sit there and say like Wow, like, how can you say that? Weak ones important? Well, let me put it this way you got Tampa Bay opens up their season against New Orleans.
Then they got a host, Caroline, and a divisional game the next week.
Then they have to go to Denver on September 27th a place where historically, Tom Brady has not played well, and they're going up against a very dynamic defense there in an offense that could be the most improved in the NFL this season.
They don't get a reprieve until they host the L A Chargers, and then they got to go up against the Chicago Bears defense.
Then they have to face Green Bay, and then they have to face the Raiders.
A New Orleans Saints win could really start separation way earlier than people want to believe they could.
Let's also not forget, people can talk about Drew Brees being done, and absolutely I understand what you're saying.
Like, Oh, look at what he did when he came back.
Are we going to also ignore the fact that this is an unbelievably good New Orleans team that went five in O with Teddy Bridgewater at when Drew Brees was out.
Are we gonna pretend that Michael Thomas is not a wide receiver on on on the ah on the Saints? Are we not going to believe that they don't have just an absolutely phenomenal running back? Or are we not going to pretend that their defense is way better than Tampa Bay's So? And and Champagne is a proven Super Bowl winning coach Bruce Arians won Super Bowls is a coordinator.
He did not win Super Bowls as a head coach.
Does that matter in the grand scheme of things? Well, when it's a road game in the division? Absolutely, it does.
Sean Payton knows how to win at home.
Sean Payton knows how to win without Drew breach on Peyton knows how to win with Drew Brees.
So this is not a cakewalk for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This isn't gonna be Tom Brady going in there, and and I think that a lot of people are believing that, you know, with we're going to see reincarnations of the Patriots 2017 when him and Moss made records in 16 no, no.
Tom Brady was early thirties, you know Tom Brady was a young man throwing the ball.
Tom Brady's gonna be 43 years old when this season starts. This year.
I'm not saying that Tom Brady doesn't play at high levels anymore, but I go back to last season with the Patriots as this as a Patriots fan.
I wouldn't say that Tom Brady was a top played like a top five.
I'd say he was a top 10 but he didn't play like a top five last year.
You could blame the receiving corps.
You could say, Look at all the weapons And you know what? Max Kellerman, who's the biggest Tom Brady hater in the world, said something.
A lot of Patriot fans and Tampa Bay fans are all there's Max hating again, but I agree.
Ah, with what he said.
I think that if you put Teddy Bridgewater on Tampa Bay there instantly, competitors again.
Ah, I think that this roster is gonna make Tom Brady look spectacular, and I think it's gonna make Tall Brady look better.
Then maybe he is at this age.
What Tom Brady brings to a team, though, is that intensity that flick of a switch I was reading an article yesterday, and his center was talking about how Tom Brady could.
Suddenly, you know, you're talking about family and friends.
Everything is great, and all of a sudden you talk about football and it's just a complete change of intensity.
It just it goes up a notch.
Tom Brady is also my opinion, the most clutch quarterback to ever play the game.
When it comes down to needing to make a play, Tom Brady can make the place.
What Tom Brady can't do anymore is elevate players, and we saw that in New England the last two seasons.
That's what always made Tom Brady better than a lot of people's.
You could put any sort of you put any guy in a wide receiver number and Tom Brady could make it happen.
You don't have that anymore in Tom Brady, but he's got the players.
They're gonna make him look good.
Sean Payton has always been friendly with Tom Brady, so it doesn't surprise me that there, you know, setting barbs at each other.
Why, you know, I know Saints fans air thinking 16 to know, but I could really envision Tampa Bay being own one and really I could envision being two and two or one and three heading into Week five.
So what a lot of Tom Brady fans and Tampa Bay pans are expecting is that like the re visitation of Peyton Manning going to Denver? You know, Denver, Peyton goes into Denver and they just start winning like crazy.
Ah, yes, Peyton had some weapons with him as well. He had Sanders.
He had to Marius Thomas.
He had a running game, but he also had an offensive line that could protect him.
And he had a pretty darn good defense with him to help.
Now there's two things right there that Tom Brady really is going to miss is that offensive line and that defense to help him.
And that's why I don't think you're gonna have the same kind of rejuvenation with Tom Brady as you did with Peyton Manning, because the teams are different, completely different now.
Can Tom Brady end up, You know, just lighten up the scoreboard? Absolutely.
It's very possible.
I don't think it's gonna happen the way a lot of people think it's gonna happen.
I think Tom Brady is going to end up changing the way this Bruce Arians offense, uh, works and manipulates plays down the field.
I think he's going to use the 10 15 yard slant routes and things of that nature rather than going down, filled the way they used to with Jamis Winston all the time.
Frankly, Tom Brady, his arm can't throw 50 yard bombs 15 times a game anymore.
You know, like you used to when he had Randy Moss.
What do you think? I agree, Ah, wholeheartedly.
And I was just actually pulling up Jamis Winston stats as we went here because, um, I want to ignore his interceptions for a second.
You don't throw 5109 yards unless you can air that ball out, because that's a lot of YAC yards.
And as good as those receivers are that you're not getting that much gak.
It was an unbelievable season for Jameis Winston.
I think he only had 3000 yards a year before he's had 4000 couple of different times, but whatever.
If they want to go into next season and try to run that same kind of offense if they want to run that they ran with Jamis Winston and think that.
OK, it's OK, though we have a much more accurate quarterback.
I'm not gonna go a Sfar a saying Some of the crap above Brady's got a noodle arm.
When Brady has to air it out, he can still air it out.
But as a Patriots fan, and I'm not saying this because he's gone, because you can go back and re watch all my old videos from last year, I said it all through last season.
Those throws were a little wobbly, not as tight, a little less accurate.
And I think you nailed it right on the head when you talked about the offensive line.
One thing that I noticed with Tom Brady last year.
He's afraid to get hit now.
And he was seeing Ghost a little bit, and I know they drafted that kid.
I remember his name in the first round to try to protect him, Um, but if Brady is not able to, if they're not able to protect him, you're going to see a lot of throwaways.
Ah, you're going to see a lot of because that's what Brady you know, did last season where we started seeing for the last two seasons.
I wouldn't necessarily say Tampa Bay has the strongest running game to give him a little bit of reprieve.
It's not outstanding, though.
It's going to be a passing offense.
And when we compare it to Peyton going to Denver and I grease you lives a 1,000,000%.
Peyton walked into one to the best defense in the NFL.
Peyton knew my defense is gonna give me chance after chance after chance after chance to score.
Tom Brady is going to get into a lot of shooting matches this year.
He's going to get into a lot of shoot outs where the defense is just getting scored on and he's going to keep answering and keep answering and keep answering.
Can Tom Brady do that? 100%? You can.
I'm not taking that away from him.
But it's not gonna be as easy as Brady urged as Manning had it in Denver.
Uh, and I mean, if you look at Manning's actual Super Bowl win, not has lost to Seattle but is win the Carolina and Super Bowl 50.
They won that Super Bowl despite Peyton Manning, you know, and Brady just doesn't have now I think the Tampa Bay defense is better, then people give it credit for.
I think that if you watch a lot of what happened last year and you break down a lot of their first half stats of their second half stats, they were on the field a lot, and you could see them starting to break down in decline.
One thing that Tom Brady is going to do is keep them off the field as much as they were.
But it's not Denver's defense.
He's not walking into a basically a fresh ah, just unbelievable talents.
And and I'm I'm a huge fan of that.
The way Denver has run their defense of the last few years because as bad as they've looked at times, their defense has looked absolutely spectacular.
So it's it's a Ah yeah, this week.
One game is gonna be fun, but I don't think it's gonna live up to the hype because of all the things that we've talked about.
Yeah, so since we've we've talked about pretty much everything other than what we believe the final score will probably be.
Why don't we go ahead and get that? How the way What are your predictions? Oh, man, I mean, 101 205.
No, Um, I think you're right.
I think it's gonna be a shootout.
But I think at the end of the day, you're going to start seeing New Orleans walk away with it a little bit.
And Ah, are they? I think that Ah, I think you might see, like, a 35 toe, 28 game or something like that, or even Ah, 42 to 31.
Something of that nature.
You what? I mean, I'm probably not using proper math right now, but it's gonna be high scoring.
But I think I think I think it's going to score game for the Saints.
I think you're giving them more credit.
And I thought, um, I was going the 35 point for the Saints.
I was I was right there with you on that.
And I'm not too far off.
What? I'm going with Tampa.
Come, I'm going 24.
I'm figuring three touchdowns.
A field goal, you know.
It's still respectable, but it's still a double digit wins.
And I think you're right.
I think in the first half.
It's gonna be a close game.
It will probably only be a field goal difference.
But I think that the difference will be is that Tampa Bay defense is going to start getting really tired, right? And Drew Brees.
That offense will continue to be able to score points and score easier, whereas on the flip side, I think, Ah, the New Orleans defense Sean Payton will be able to keep him fresh because of how much depth they have there will be able to continue to play at a high high level.
I think I think they'll be ableto slow them down there.
Probably even get a turnover or two, maybe in the fourth quarter, because it starts.
You could feel the game getting out of hand.
Maybe in Tampa's trying to, you know, push the ball down the field a little bit or something.
So, yeah, I'm looking at something around 35 to 24 now, like you said in November, will revisit this because I think in November I think the school will be quite different.
Yeah, November 8.
To think is different.
I don't want to talk about that now.
I want to see where they're at.
But you know what? I'm looking at Tampa Bay schedule, and it's not an easy schedule at all.
My crap ton of primetime games because he's there.
Yeah, like you've got New Orleans Carolina, Denver Chargers.
Then you have Chicago, Green Bay and Raiders, all three tough games.
So your 1st 7 games of the year, six of them are pretty tough games that you got to go against.
And you got the Giants, who I think will be an improved team this year.
You'll probably beat him, but improved.
Then you got New Orleans again.
Then you're at Carolina, then you have the Rams.
Then you have Kansas City.
Then you have to play Minnesota.
Then you got a couple of games in Atlanta, you know, So it's Ah ah, and then one in Detroit.
It's not an easy schedule, and my fear for the the Buccaneers is because I think it's gonna take them a while, especially with this whole covert thing and them not being able to regularly work out together.
My fear is, is that this season could get away from them quicker than they think that.
Then then I think a lot of people think it can.
Oh, I think that Chicago game is something that the whole season could hinge on because if they can't keep that Chicago defense often, Tom Brady the whole game could unravel for him.
I mean, people are, you know, people might think I'm crazy and get upset.
But would it surprise you if Tampa was a 10 win team? No.
Like, I don't think a lot of people believe they'll lose six games, but I really see them and go like this.
Is looking at that schedule looking a division looking at Tom Brady beat on a brand new offense? Yes, he's Tom Brady, but it's a brand new offense.
Um, it's I could very easily.
I mean, look, I could very easily see them being a 14 win team to if you know the other way, but I can see them being a 10 win team and and maybe God getting a wild card because of that extra wild card spot.
Especially considering to if there is empty stadiums or limited crowds.
Home field advantage for Tampa is not going to be there on and and Raymond James Stadium or whatever it's called is actually a pretty cool place to watch football.
You know, the whole atmosphere.
The crowd is there the cannons.
I mean, it's Ah, it's a cool place to watch football.
I've never been in there, but I've driven by it.
When I was in Tampa and kind of looked around and looking, you can you can see the ship from the outside.
You what? I mean, and it's just it's a cool place to be.
They're not gonna have that same kind of ambience.
And I think Tampa was expecting full stadiums loud.
Brady's here and Ah, and I mean, really, and I have to throw this out here.
How is the 43 year old Tom Brady gonna look? Is he gonna look like he did last year? We look like an old man, Or is he gonna like his M V P year from 2017? And those are all questions.
Obviously we can give speculation to right now, we're not going to know the answers to, but I'm just trying to temper and manage expectations here for people like I think I I agree with you.
But I think that there is one small thing that we haven't taken into consideration.
I think braider Brady's demeanor will be better because he's out of New England.
He's happier now.
He's where he wants to be, so he will not gonna feel dour every time he walks into the stadium.
Now, I think so.
I I don't know what people realize this, but Brady's wanted out for a little bit now, anyhow, happening he has.
This is where I will disagree with you.
I think when they're winning, he's gonna love it.
You mean because we won its great life is fantastic, you know? I mean, it's great if they come off a loss and Bruce Arians comes in and starts complimenting people in the film room.
He's going to realize the difference between Bill Ballot Check and Bruce Arians.
Um, if he feels like the team needs an extra hour of conditioning and practice and those guys are like F that I'm going home because they don't they're not terrified.
A Bill Belichick, you what I mean or in grain? Um, Brady has been in that system for too long to accept mediocrity, and and I think that I think the Bruce Arians hugs for Tom Brady are going to get old very quickly, especially if they're not having the success that he's hoping for.
Um, you know what? You might not get hugs from Bill Belichick, but you win Super Bowls, and I think to with that ultra competitiveness that we talked about that we believe Brady wants to outdo Bella check really badly to show that, you know, he can, um, he might turn around and think like, Well, I can't do it with this guy.
This guy, You know, Bradys never played for a players coach, right? Like Brady had It doesn't play.
Has played 20 years for Bill, Ballot Shack players, coaches air, different players.
Coaches don't scream and freak out.
And you what I mean and and come down on guys, Do you think these guys who have had it's so beautiful are really gonna accept Brady having one of his little temper tantrums on the sideline? Guys weren't used to it.
You what? I mean, it's there's and I get they'll have that respect level for Brady, but that culture is gonna be very, very different.
And Brady might have been happy because balletic never patted him on the back and said, You're the greatest of all time and I love you and hug him like his owner dead.
But he's going to see what it's like coming from a championship organization to not.
And, you know, his greatest Bruce Arians is.
This is his second team.
He was fired from Arizona for underachieving, not winning anything.
So it's not like Arians as a head coach.
Not is, ah, coordinator or a quarterbacks coach where you want a Super Bowl, I think with Steelers he won one right, not from there, but as a head coach.
He hasn't had that culture, and I know he's a former coach of the year and I fully say that he won coach of the year because Chuck Pagano got sick and it's That's the fact of the matter.
And he took a team that was stacked to the gills with great talent and didn't win a Super Bowl with them.
You what? I mean in one coach of the year, Um, so it's gonna be a different culture, and I think Tommy's not going to appreciate the whole hugs.
He might appreciate it during training camp.
I don't know if he's gonna appreciate the hugs on a two game losing streak or after a big loss.
And Bruce Arians is in there trying to console people when he wants Bill Belichick, and they're screaming at them.
Well, I also got a counterpoint that a little bit that I think you trust all a little bit.
The players are gonna have the respect for Brady.
And if Bruce Arians cuts, cuts, practice or cuts film or something, and Tom's like, Hey, offense, I need you to stay here.
We need to work on things, need to go out on the field and go through some drills.
We need to do this when you do that, outside of what what Arians wants us to do.
I think the majority, if not all of them, would probably follow Brady right off a bridge if they needed to.
Just so they know that you know these part of that type of winning culture.
I think if things are going right, I think if things are going right, they will.
If things were going wrong.
If they're on a couple of game losing streak, I think Tom Brady's attitude, the competitive attitude, winning attitude, can get very tiresome on players very quickly.
You what? I mean, it's That's the thing.
It's it's, you know, Brady can go on the sideline in New England, freak out and scream at the top of his lungs and guys to sit there nodding their head because it's Tom Brady, it's and but it's ingrained in that culture.
You know, it's that culture and grain, Um, when you haven't been a part of that and that's not your culture.
And that's the thing.
Tom Brady can't go in there and try to instill the Patriots culture because it's not the Patriots, and you can already see it with the way people are talking about the pre workouts.
He's trying to instill the Patriots culture thistles where him and Bruce Arians could start banging heads because it's not up to Tom Brady to produce the culture in a locker room.
It's up to the head coach to produce in the locker room and Arians being a players coach.
I could see him intervening when Brady is having his little his Peyton and really freak out on.
People had his moments.
I don't Him and Jeff Saturday had it paid, manages very cooling calmly said, Get off the fields.
Yeah, but I mean, yeah, um, Brady's octaves get to that high level.
He starts screaming.
And I think that if if they're not winning, it could get tiresome very quickly.
Okay, Well, we're gonna find out week one, right? Because that's that's one of those games that it honestly could go bad quick.
So we'll see how they react if it does.
You know that following week.
All right, well, I want to thank you again for joining the stream.
It was great, AB. And I'm here, man.
Um, so I'm Lord telling this is SportsCastr news update.
And, as usual, I want you guys to have a good one.
