00:00:17
All right, So Ravens wide receivers.
00:00:23
Okay, so let's talk about this topic.
00:00:25
Um, where do I start? Because I have so many thoughts on this topic.
00:00:32
I have so much stuff to say about this wide receiving corps going into 20 20.
00:00:41
So I've noticed that the way Ozzy did things with receivers and the way that Eric DeCosta is doing things with the receiving corps are much different, right? We see that the only veteran receiver that we have on the roster right now is Willie Snead.
00:01:00
So, usually Ravens have at least you know, 2 to 3 veteran wide receivers that we sign off the free agency market.
00:01:08
You know, you think back to like a Michael Crabtree when we signed him, and, you know, that didn't really work out.
00:01:14
He was good, but he just too many drops men.
00:01:16
That was that was really the issue.
00:01:18
Um, same thing with John Brown.
00:01:20
He was good for a while when we had Joe Flacco.
00:01:22
But then once Lamar came in, he just was not feeling it had also, you know, he ended up going to buffalo, and we also brought Willie Snead in that same year, and he's actually stayed.
00:01:32
He's been a good ah consistent receiver, you know, moves the chains sure catches pretty good hands.
00:01:39
Um, but be even before that, you think back to, like a Mike Wallace that we signed.
00:01:44
You think back to like a Steve Smith, which, by the way, he made some comments about the receiving room.
00:01:49
But we'll get into that a little bit.
00:01:52
Um, so, Ozzie like to bring in veteran wide receivers and maybe draft one.
00:01:59
And, you know, we we remember.
00:02:01
What? Ozzie, you know, he didn't have the best track record when it came to receivers.
00:02:05
So I've noticed that Eric DeCosta believes in homegrown, you know, youth talent, especially in the receiving court.
00:02:15
I mean, look at our receiving core nowadays, right? Hollywood Brown is our number one right now.
00:02:20
I mean, whether you like that or not, it is what it is.
00:02:23
We don't really have any other options.
00:02:25
Hollywood is the guy which I'm fine with. I love Hollywood.
00:02:28
I think he's very fast.
00:02:29
He you know, he adds that deep threat, um, threat deep threat to to this passing offense, which we desperately needed.
00:02:38
So I love Hollywood.
00:02:39
I think he's going to do great things this next season.
00:02:42
We also have Miles Boykin, who we took in the third round last year, and, ah, you know, he showed some flashes here and there, but he just never really put it all together.
00:02:51
Supposedly, they're hoping for him to make a really big leap in his second season.
00:02:57
Um, as long as he's a good blocker, that's really all I care about.
00:03:00
And he just makes the catch is when it's thrown to him, that's that's what matters to me.
00:03:04
And then we have, Of course, Willie Snead, who right now is the starting slot.
00:03:08
But if I had to guess, I think that's that spot is going to be taken very soon by either Devin do her name, who is a rookie this season? Or James Pro Shea so well, going back to the receiving court.
00:03:20
We have Hollywood Brown.
00:03:21
We have Miles Boykin.
00:03:22
We have Willie Snead.
00:03:24
We have Devon Duvernay.
00:03:25
We have James Pro Shea, and don't forget about Jalil Scott.
00:03:28
We have Jalil Scott, so we also have some guys like on the practice squad, like I think Sean Monster and Antoine Winfield, Bert and not Antoine Winfield.
00:03:38
Until live forgetting his name, that's crazy.
00:03:41
And I really like the sky last year.
00:03:43
Anyway, it's not important.
00:03:44
It'll come back to me, but we have someone drafted receivers.
00:03:46
Really, it's not important.
00:03:48
Um, the point is that we have a lot of youth in the receiving room, which is crazy.
00:03:54
The only veteran is Willie Seed, and I think he's like 26 27.
00:03:58
So this this wide receiving corps on paper looks good.
00:04:03
Um, Devon Duvernay.
00:04:05
What I love about him is that he's very much like Deebo.
00:04:09
He when he gets the ball in his hands, he's just like a running back.
00:04:11
He runs with so much, you know, anger and power.
00:04:14
And I love that.
00:04:15
That's one of my favorite things.
00:04:17
Also, he's very physical.
00:04:18
I love him in the blocking game.
00:04:20
He's very willing to block, um, ran a lot of like screens, a lot of short routes, that type of stuff.
00:04:26
So I'm not sure if we're gonna, you know, try to scheme like that because we don't really run that many screens.
00:04:32
Unfortunately, I would like to see more, but we just don't really do it, so I don't know what we're going to do with Devin Duvernay.
00:04:37
I don't know if he's just gonna be a regular slot, you know, we're just going to groom him to take over for Willie Snead.
00:04:43
I think that's possible.
00:04:45
But I also think that James Pro Shea, even though he's more like 1/6 round pick, You can't sleep on this guy because he makes amazing circus catches Now.
00:04:54
He's not the biggest guy.
00:04:56
He's like six feet and he's pretty small.
00:04:58
But he just makes amazing catches, dude, like it's crazy.
00:05:01
Just watch not You don't even have to watch this tape just watches.
00:05:04
Highlights the dude makes circus catches.
00:05:06
It's insane, and I don't think I don't remember a little receiver like that, making those types of catches so James Pro shake could be good.
00:05:14
I don't know if we'll get a lot of playing time because of all all of the receivers that he has ahead of him, but I think he will impress at least in the preseason and, you know, maybe down the road.
00:05:23
So this receiving corps is very young and then, of course you have Jalil Scott like I mentioned.
00:05:27
I love Jalil Scott, but we're just not.
00:05:30
I just don't think that John Harbaugh likes, um, or just not using him at all.
00:05:33
I think he would be a great weapon in the red zone, but it just seems like we're not interested in bringing him on the field.
00:05:39
Unfortunately, I wish we would, but it doesn't seem like we will.
00:05:43
So they're receiving chorus. Fine.
00:05:45
I think you know, I wasn't too concerned about when we didn't take a receiver in the 1st 2 rounds.
00:05:49
I'm, like, just just chill out.
00:05:51
Will probably will get the right guy, you know? Um, well, yeah.
00:05:55
A lot of people wanted us to draft to receiver in the first round.
00:05:57
A lot of us wanted a lot of people wanted us to sign Antonio Brown, which again, I don't want to get into because that's a whole other topic.
00:06:05
But I think this receiving chorus fine.
00:06:07
You know, as long as Lamar has this tight ends, as long as he has some weapons over the middle, which he does now with Snead with Duvernay with pro shea, um, Hollywood on the outside that you have to respect the speed, you have to.
00:06:19
I mean, so this receiving corps looks good on paper.
00:06:23
I think Lamar will like this receiving corps, but, you know, it's just all a matter of if they can develop because they're so young.
00:06:30
Like I said, this is a young receiving court, which I love again.
00:06:34
I love Eric DeCosta is approach to the receiving corps over Ozzie's, which, you know, just grow your home grown talent.
00:06:41
Don't worry about getting outside receivers.
00:06:43
Don't worry about getting those aging 38 year old wide receivers that we don't need.
00:06:48
Just grow your own talent and wide receiver and just develop them.
00:06:51
And I love that that mindset.
00:06:53
I hope we can continue doing that.
00:06:54
We'll see how it goes.
00:06:55
But I think Lamar, we'll have a really good season.
00:06:59
I don't expect to drop off.
00:07:01
I think he's gonna have more weapons this time with really good hands.
00:07:04
As we saw in the playoffs, that did not work out because Seth Roberts was over there dropping everything and even Willie Snead men didn't didn't look too good.
00:07:13
There was a lot of lot of drops in that game, so you can definitely see that Eric DeCosta said. No more of that.
00:07:18
That's why we brought a Duvernay.
00:07:19
That's why we bought him Pro Shea because they have some of the best hands in the in the in the draft.
00:07:24
So we only draft wide receivers that specialize in working between the numbers.
00:07:29
Yeah, I mean, that's our strength right now, To be honest with you, that is our strength right now.
00:07:33
I think that's our strength right now, and there's nothing wrong with that.
00:07:36
There's nothing wrong with our strength being throwing over the middle.
00:07:39
That's just how it is.
00:07:40
And it's not to say that Lamar can't throw outside the numbers because I know he can.
00:07:44
He just has to get a little more accurate in that department.
00:07:47
That's all it takes, you know? And who's to say that he won't be coming out here slinging it next season way.
00:07:53
Just have to see.
00:07:54
Lamar had a great jump from year one to year two and I expect a little bit of that in year two year three.
00:07:59
So I think that this receiving corps looks good.
00:08:03
I think this offense looks good overall, we should be, you know, we should be in prime position.
00:08:07
So Alright, guys, I'm get out of here.
