What's up, guys? Welcome into a ah, little bit of ah, after hours or after show The sports guy Mike Charm sports guy Mike, thanks so much for stopping in hanging out with us.
We normally do our show around Ah, 8 30 Mountain times Pretty early.
Ah, but then we re broadcast and again locally here in Colorado at 11 o'clock on KCB are as well a sports guy mike dot com.
So check it out. But we're always here.
Ah, Monday through Friday, in the morning.
So we'd appreciate you coming by hanging out.
Make sure you check out our show, But I kind of with the schedule out, I didn't really get a chance.
And and we've kind of previewed this and talked a little bit about it on this show.
And don't forget, you can also check us out on social media too, um, at sports guy Mike.
But the, um I kind of wanted to go over a little bit of certain teams in certain divisions, and I wanted to do the NFC east today because we talked about it, um, briefly, a little bit today during the show, But you know, when you look at this division, okay? And we talked about this today.
This is a division that we probably could have been like.
Okay, so nobody came out of the NFC East. No problem.
And I hate to do this because these are professional athletes, a professional franchise.
But at the end of the day, all you could have this is a throwaway division.
I'm sorry to all the Cowboy fans and all the Eagle fans, giant Redskin fans, But this is a division that was one with a nine and seven Philadelphia Eagles team that, quite frankly, I honestly thought that the Dallas Cowboys would have had ah, better record than 18 8 Unfortunately, they did it.
So the question is, who comes out on top this year? What moves during the off season that were made are gonna end up being those types of moves that could thrust them into, ah, where they're going to go this coming season.
So, of course, we we have to talk about the Dallas Cowboys.
First and foremost, this is a team.
If you look at their schedule, they start off with Rams, Falcon, Seattle, Cleveland, Ah, Giants, Arizona, Washington, Philly and in Pittsburgh, and they don't get their bye week to week 10.
Now this is a team in the Dallas Cowboys that went out on a limb and or I shouldn't say went out on a limb.
But the paid the guy that had a fit and it was a running back that you could have replaced.
Now don't get me wrong.
I am not taking anything away from Zeke at all.
And I'm not saying that he's not a good running back.
All I'm saying is that we're talking about a guy that could have been replaced.
I don't I don't find his skill set to be that of somebody that I that is the Cowboys should have said, Man, we better pay this guy.
We better make sure that we paese no.
And then you went and you paid Amari Cooper and then you win and you got a veteran quarterback, if you will.
I guess to make things better just in case and I'm talking about Andy, don't.
Of course, just in case Dak doesn't sign his franchise tag, which I'm starting to wonder if he's going to now.
He'd be a fool if he didn't.
We all look back at what happened to guys like Levy on Bell, you know, thought he was going to get more money, thought he deserved more money.
And the Pittsburgh Steelers like, No, we're not.
We're not paying you that kind of money.
We'll pay you this kind of money.
Then he ended up going and becoming a cautionary tale in New York, where what happened, you got paid less money and had a crappy season.
I think Levian Bell knows after playing with that Jets offensive line knows that he had it real good in Pittsburgh and it was sad for him.
But so let's go back.
And you know, you look at this.
I honestly think that this Dallas Cowboy team with the fact that you now have guys that are signed, you have guys that are paid.
You have a great rookie wide receiver and CD lamb.
I could see this team picking up 10 wins.
I'm looking at the schedule, you know, you go back and you say OK, them in Philly, it's always a good matchup.
The Rams air probably gonna be better than they were last year.
They had a falling off here that went to the Super Bowl.
Kind of had, you know, some woes, especially on the offensive line.
But then you have Atlanta.
They're still trying to figure out where they're at.
And you know what's going on? Matt Ryan, Is this gonna be, you know, Ah, breakout year for him? It needs to be.
Then they have Seattle.
Russell Wilson and Company are always tough.
This is a very interesting schedule that the Dallas Cowboys have.
They really dio um I could I can sit here and look at the schedule and I can see 10 wins.
I'm not gonna lie to you being a Steeler fan pretty much my entire life.
Um, I'm really looking forward to the Dallas Pittsburgh game.
That's, um, in Dallas in November.
Now, I'm not gonna say that I made take a trip to Texas, uh, to see this game, but we'll ah, we'll see what happens.
But this is definitely something you know.
You have toe really think about this in one way and one way only.
Who's gonna be under center? Is that going to sign this thing or you're going to see ah, former Bengal quarterback be under center for Taos and that's something that you know you may have to be looking at as a Dallas fan.
All I know I will say this.
I think that this is a town to team.
I said this for years, and I feel like I say that nauseum.
But if you look at this team on paper, the Dallas Cowboys should easily run away with the NFC East.
They should easily win this division.
Whether or not they do remains to be seen again, it's it's until July 15th.
We're not going to know exactly what's you know where, where that offense is gonna go and who's going to run it.
Because again, you have a quarterback with with uber talent that got you to eight mate last year.
So something's got to give.
Mike McCarthy is a huge upswing.
Um, you know, a Sfar is your new coach, and you know he's got a Super Bowl with Green Bay.
This is a team that at the end of the day needs to find their identity again, all over again.
Jason Garrett at 18 8 It wasn't good enough, obviously, and honestly wasn't good enough for the past 30 years.
I thought Jason Garrett was going to be fired years ago and he wasn't so we'll see what happens.
Philadelphia Eagles, of course.
This division last year at nine and seven.
But again, you know, not that it was something that you could hang your hat on.
You know, nine and seven wasn't all that impressive, but it got them where they needed to be.
I'm looking at this team schedule again.
You know, of course, with the NFC East, you know they have to play their rivals, but they're playing.
Or so they have.
The likes of Pittsburgh have to do with Baltimore that to deal with Cincinnati, which shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Um, however, they are playing, um, they're playing Seattle in Green Bay and and New Orleans.
This is a team also, that's kind of built on the whole.
What if you know what, is Carson Wentz going to stay healthy, you know, for for a whole year? That's something that you really have to take into consideration and hope that it's what you what you perceive it to be.
Look going out and getting other pieces of the puzzle toe help out the Fed off the Eagles.
The one thing I thought not in quarterback.
I honestly thought that maybe they needed toe a little more help.
You know, with that secondary.
Just my opinion.
This is another team that I thought would have had more wins there, Another one That kind of dropped the ball, if you will.
Um, I could see them winning nine or 10 games with this schedule is well, but again, there other holes other than making sure that you have to get another quarterback just in case this one goes down.
Don't get me wrong.
I think it was smart.
I just don't know if that was, um, the big ticket item that you needed to go out and get.
Now you have the New York Giants again.
You have Daniel Jones.
You're trying to figure out what's going on.
Um, I would say Kwame Barkley, are they going to be ableto toe have that magic chemistry all over again? You hope, you know, are not all over again.
But you hope that they find a way to create that chemistry.
Their first game out of the shooters against my Steelers again.
You know this is gonna be a really good game.
This game is going to be in New York.
Another place I might get on a plane and go home to New York is It's where I'm from.
Toe watch this Giants Pittsburgh game.
This is another team that struggles with this identity.
They have there.
Obviously, they have their franchise quarterback, you know, and they have a phenomenal running back that catches the ball out of the backfield in, say, Quan.
So you know, again, here's another team that you think should have had more wins than they did last season.
And when they finish for and 12 year, just like okay, what's going on? A lot of things happen with this team.
Defense had issues.
Ah, scoring was a problem again.
Hopefully, that's something that they can fix during the soft season.
But again, you sitting.
You look at this and you go well, they haven't been able to have o.
These guys haven't been able to get into, you know, team facilities, which hopefully will be opening soon, fingers crossed.
Look, there's a lot of what ifs and unfortunately that's really a lot of what we have to go on because these guys aren't working out.
We don't know the status of a lot of these guys.
I know they're getting there their tablets and they're being able to go through plays.
And you can only work out so much in a gym or a personal gym or in a field or in your backyard.
I mean, there's only so much you can dio.
So it's gonna be real truth telling to see what happens in the NFC East.
And then, of course, you have the Washington Redskins.
You know, here's a team that finished at the bottom of the NFC East with three and 13.
You have a quarterback in in Haskins.
Do I think he's gotten a fair shake? Uh, look, you go out and you get probably the best player in the draft, but the best football player in the draft.
You go and you get Ron Rivera's your new head coach in Washington, we know that that's always been an issue.
As's faras head coaches go, you know, Not that Jay Gruden was a bad coach.
It was just Jay Gruden had a lot of shortcomings and it seemed like they just couldn't keep the wheels moving forward.
So, you know, and then also losing him in the middle of the season isn't really conducive to helping a quarterback grow.
Um, when you get rid of this coach, so you know that's gonna be that's gonna be problematic no matter who you are.
And I think that that was a big problem that they had.
Look, Washington has never been that team where you sat back and went, Oh, man, you better watch out or, you know, men do they have a great defense, You know, they've had good defense is not great.
Defense is, but they have to figure something out.
And hopefully with the coming in of, you know, Ron Rivera, who's a amazing ah football mind.
Look, it's chase younger to completely change the defense.
He's gonna be considerably impactful immediately.
There's no question about it, but at the end of the day, Kenny Trant can a rookie transformed that entire defense, um, toe hopefully play better.
You know, they went out and got Antonio Gibson from Memphis, who's a really good wide receiver.
They went out and got pieces, you know, that they needed, um I just don't know if this is, You know, I don't think it's gonna get turned around all that quickly to where we're going to see a huge uptick in winds.
Are they gonna win more than three games? Absolutely.
I I firmly believe that.
I think Dwayne Haskins has got to be that guy that's now sitting in the driver's seat with hopefully with coach that believes in him, believes in his capabilities and allows him to flourish, get better, teach him things that maybe he didn't get last year since he lost his coach, uh, halfway through the season.
Now, if I had to pick a team like I said in the beginning, I honestly think that we're looking at your NFC East champions will be the Dallas Cowboys.
Look, I honestly think that CD Lamb comes in, and I think he's immediately an impact with that offense.
Look, it's This is a tough, tough division to put your finger on, because who knows? The New York Giants had come out of the gate, and who knows? They could be the team to beat in the NFC East.
You don't know, and again it's gonna be tough for us to really put our finger on this particular division for one reason and one reason only.
This is a division that has been lackluster for quite some time now. There's granite.
We had the Eagles and they went to the Super Bowl, but they that team has not been the same.
And I'm not saying that Nick Foles was the main ingredient, but he was a guy that came off the bench and wanted it felt that he deserved a starting job and he went out.
They improved it by winning a super, winning an NFC championship and then winning the Super Bowl.
But as of last year, man, it was just very lackluster.
Not a very exciting division in the NFL.
Hopefully, this year with some additions, you know, especially the Washington to Dallas.
You know, Philadelphia's biggest question is always going to be Carson Wentz, and can he stay healthy? So those are major, major things that we're gonna have to look at when it comes to this particular division.
But if I had to put my finger on it and I had to give you my early guests, I would say that the Dallas Cowboys will be the NFC East.
So that's my NFC pick for you.
I don't like to get to Dell down in numbers and everything, even though I am a numbers guy.
But let's keep in mind again.
This wasn't the most exciting and, ah, you know, Rob bra division in the NFL as of last year.
But hopefully they can turn things around.
