How you doing? Everybody, this is Ray wrote Coming to From DPM Sports Talk and I am coming live on SportsCastr in Conjunction going live on clutch points at the same time.
How's everybody doing on this beautiful, beautiful sort of chilly here in Toronto, Canada, on this Monday? May the 4th May the fourth be with you today, man, I'm covering an article from clutch points from my man.
Matthew Smith, who wrote an article called Adam Gates, reveals potential changes to Lavy on Bell's role during the 2020 season.
And you know, when New York Jets, when they signed running back Levy on Bell to a four year deal last March, I think the general expectation was that Bell would play a significant role in the Jets offense.
I think it's no surprise anybody that didn't happen.
Head coach Adam Gates did not utilize Bell properly, basically all season, and that resulted in the three time Pro Bowler rushing for just 789 yards and three touchdowns.
He only averaged a meager 3.
2 yards per carry, and when Adam Gates was asked about how he will use Lavy on Bell in the 2020 season.
He thinks that keeping Bell fresh is the key, he said.
This quote, I don't think we have some guy.
I do think sorry, we have some guys that can help, maybe lessen the load on belt where it's not all on him, Gay said.
And this is, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN dot com quote.
Hopefully, we can get some younger backs to where we can make a good 12 punch to working.
We can really excel instead of feeling like it's just on him all the time.
And, you know, there's been plenty of speculation since the end of the 2019 season that perhaps the New York Jets would potentially move on and trade Bell.
But apparently gay, some Bell have been able to hash out their differences after this season about, as we all know, play this collegiate football at Michigan State.
He was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
He spent his 1st 6 years of Pittsburgh earning a couple of first team All Pro selections in addition to a trio of Pro Bowl appearances.
However, as we all know now in 2018 Bell start out the entire season due to a contract dispute.
The 28 year old then proceeded to join the Jets.
We'll see if Gacy's strategy leads the bell enjoying a more productive year in 2020 and, like that's gotta lead to the question.
Did Lavy on Bell make the right decision signing with the New York Jets? Before we even address anything else? And I think at the moment when he originally signed back, you know, last in March or whenever he signed his contract? Yeah.
I mean, I thought he made the right decision joining the New York Jets.
He was joining a young team.
You had Sam Donald entering the second season.
Things look like they were really good.
The jet seems like they were on the way to being at the end of that rebuild.
And it really at that time, it kind of.
For the Jets, it seemed like the right time for a player like Lavy on Bell.
I remember even saying the New York Jets Bell just was the difference maker.
I remember seeing that last year he just legitimized the New York Jets in hind sight after watching the 2019 season signing with the Jets was an awful idea.
Ah, and look, I fully I'm aware the maybe the Jets can turn things around this season.
Maybe Belle can come out.
Maybe he can be more productive.
I think one of the bigger problems is his.
Adam Gates made it publicly, publicly clear that he was not a fan of the lady on Bell signing, you know, and add on to that you had gay sat other locker room issues.
There were people that were describing his locker room behavior as a quote bully.
And I'm sure when you add all of that kind of stuff in Lady on Bell, I'm sure did not feel welcomed in New York.
And really, just the combination of everything that was happening was a recipe for disaster for New York and for Bell in general.
Ah, but I think on top of that, I just don't know what other options Bell had and where else he could sign.
Look, I had no issues with how he handled his end with the Steelers.
He made it business decision.
He sat out the season.
He bet on himself.
Organizations move on from players all the time.
We can't be mad when players move on from organizations.
We can't be upset when players bet on themselves.
But as of right now that that really didn't work out for itself because he could have made more money in Pittsburgh and been in a better situation, and he still has three years left on his deal.
So he still got some time to try to prove something in New York.
So when we look at Adam Gay Aces sort of scenario of that sort of running back by committee, should the Jets go with a committee of running backs? Or should they just have a signature back in Lady on Bell in New York? And I, for one, have no issues with there being a running back committee.
Pittsburgh did the same thing with Bell.
It's not like this is a new thing for Lady on.
Ah, he had multiple partners helping him.
He had liguera blunt for some of this season.
He had the and DeAngelo Williams.
I think back in 2017 or 2018 you know James Connor was brought in to help lessen the load on Bell before he sat out and corner became the primary back.
Running back is a grueling position, I think, outside of the offensive line and defensive line, I don't think there's any other position that takes more punishment in the NFL than the running back position.
So doing by committee, given some breaks in between, is good for a player like Bell, it's not a bad thing.
But even though the Jets are gonna practice load management, you've got to make sure you still feed him.
This doesn't mean don't give him his opportunities on, and really, I suggest about should get at least 15 to 18 carries per game.
If you look at his career in this, of course, accounts for injuries.
I think when I was doing the math, the only average like 17.
7 carries per game, so it's not like he needs to be a 25 30 carry running back.
He can carry the ball 15 or 18 times to be happy and I think what the Jets need to do is make sure they get him involved in the in the passing game and make sure that you scheme to use Levy on Bell.
At the end of the day, you treat everybody the same in a locker room.
That's when you're successful.
You look at a team like the New England Patriots.
That's what made them so successful for so long.
But you don't just treat lady on Belenky some scrub.
He's still your number one running back, and you want to make sure that you're putting him in the best position to succeed for your team, which ultimately can lead to your team's success.
And you know, that leads me to my final question.
When you look at the 2019 season.
Was Bells lack of success because of him? Or was it a systematic problem across the organization? And I think for me, I've been on record many, many of times, probably more times than I want to admit.
But I believe deep down in the bottom of my heart that Adam Gays is the worst coach in professional football, possibly in football.
And that's a lot of coaches when you take in the NC double, eh? The Canadian Football League, Canadian College, the European leagues, except fouls any independently that may be out there.
Adam gays could be one of the worst.
He underachieved in Miami.
I believe that while in Miami, he absolutely ruined Ryan Tannehill, who could have been just an absolute superstar in the league.
I've, for one, was shocked, like shocked when the New York Jets gave him another opportunity to quicks or to coach so quickly.
A part of me thought that that was because of his success with the Patriots.
We saw Rex Ryan get another opportunity with the Buffalo Bills, almost for the same thing, and look Levy on.
Bell needs to take some of the blame for his lack of production.
He needs to run for more than 800 yards in a season.
Your lady on Bell, your primary back here at one point, where a future Hall of Famer, your two time All Pro, three time Pro Bowler, you gotta play like it.
But case was a huge problem, and we saw the New York Jets organization take a huge step backwards.
Last year, he was supposed to move forward.
He was supposed to, you know, Adam Gaze was supposed to bring the Jets to the next level, and if anything, he took them a step backwards.
and really going into this season, the New York Jets should be the favorites in the A F C East.
Even with the bill sudden surge, even with them adding Stefon Diggs, even with their defense being, you know, phenomenal, even with saying, Hey, of Josh Allen takes a step forward, the pills are unstoppable.
The Jets should still be the favorites in the A f C East, but they're not.
And it's my opinion.
As long as Adam Gaze is the coach of New York, the Jets will never reach their full potential.
That's kind of just sad, you know.
And if the Jets want any a chance to compete next year, if they even want us to talk about forget Super Bowl playoffs.
Levy on Bell needs to be more productive.
If that means, though, that Adam Gays needs toe build around him and get him some help, then go for it. Try something.
Well, let me make one thing clear.
What the Jets have been doing up to date with Lavy on Bell just hasn't been working, and they need to.
I mean, need to make some better decisions going forward, and that's all I have for you right now.
