and welcome Everybody back here to the sports dish on SportsCastrs will be talking college hoops here once again today for everyone as we'll be taking a look back at this past season as I'm gonna go over my top 10 most improved college basketball teams throughout the past season for the 2019 2020 college basketball season.
So this past season for college basketball, absolute roller coaster of a season for some of these teams, some teams hope, had consistency throughout the entire course of the season.
Other teams they collapsed in the collapse, big time down the stretch that teams will all be talking about today either dug themselves out of the hole with a really rough start early in the season, only to get better and better drop the course of the season.
Every single one of these teams in the top 10 list got so much better from what they were starting out the season to what they were throughout the course of the season towards the end of the season, while other teams it was kind of like uncertain for some of these teams here, my list, if they were going to even make March Madness are not given the high expectations they had heading into the season.
And some of these teams just got off to a rough start but bounced back big time throughout the end stage of the season.
So today I present to you the top 10 most improved college basketball teams throughout this past season for college basketball will start off here on the list.
Take a look in number 10 is that goes to the Sienna Saints.
They finished off the record of 20 and 10 overall, 15 and five in conference play.
CNN had a rough start, no first half of the season with a 79 record, but the second half just a complete 1 80 for the Saints.
They went 12 and one that close out the season season before was canceled.
CNN scoring production was the main reason why was led by their top three scores.
Ah, large of jail in Pickett, yet six games with 20 or more points. Elijah Burns.
He had four games with 20 or more points.
He also had six additional games when 19 points each in those six games in Manny, Camper added in four games with 20 or 20 or more points for the Sienna Saints.
Now we'll take a look here at number nine on the list as this goes out to the wind.
Drop Eagles as they improve big time throughout the course of this past season.
24 in 10 record overall, the finished with and 15 and three in the Big South.
Brutal nonconference schedule to start off for win.
Trump is the start out their nonconference schedule with a four and seven record during their 1st 7 losses.
It was against these teams.
They played up pretty close against most of these teams that they lost games to the los against Fresno State in the nonconference loss against Tennessee, Tech lost against East Tennessee State, who happened to be the 2020 Southern Conference champions.
Winter Up also lost other games.
The Coastal Carolina Furman, TCU and number one ranked Duke ends with that tough nonconference schedule.
The winter of Eagles play their opponents pretty close throughout the season.
Their largest loss, by the way throughout the entirety of this past year, was only 13 points at number one ranked Duke it Cameron indoor.
So even without losing record at four and seven and nonconference play to start off for win Trump.
They showed the promise, though throughout nonconference players, they were ableto get a surprise victory, knocking off number 18 ranks ST Mary's.
And then, after that loss against Furman that winter up had that put them with the record of four and seven at the time.
After that, they rallied off 14 straight victories for a record of 18 and seven.
They start off Big South Conference Plater February 8 with a record of 12 and oh, and went.
Trump eventually finished with a Big South Conference tournament title as they had a record overall, 24 in 10 15 and three in the conference.
Now we'll take a lucky our number eight on the list, the most improved college basketball teams from this past season.
We take a look at the BU Terriers here on the list for Boston University, 2113 overall this past season 12 and six in the Patriot League as they start out with a rough start to the season for Boston University, but they start out three and two.
Quite a surprise, though, is their third victory this season happened to be a win on the road in South Carolina, the first time in program history that the terrorists and knocked off in SEC school.
But after that, winning in South Carolina, things just changed.
It seemed like it was going to be another down season for BU as they dropped the lap five straight games right after that victory in South Carolina.
So they went from being three into the three and seven for BU, and some of those teams that they lost against during that five game winning streak happen to be absolutely terrible towards the seasons and with with their records.
These are the teams that be you lost to B.
You managed to win the Patriot League tournament title against Colgate, but in the nonconference demanded so use against these types of teams.
They lost the Tennessee Martin, who had a record of nine and 22 embassies.
And they also lost against George Washington, who was at the bottom of the 8 10 with a record of 12 and 20 overall this past season.
And he also lost against the Binghamton Bear Cats with a record of 10 and 19.
But things started to click for BU.
That happened in mid December for two Terriers.
That's where they were able to manage our own squeak, close victories.
And they just got better and better throughout the course of the season.
Once Conference place started, they put together 12 and six conference record and one of those games that included just a remarkable 16 point come back when that they have won nine minutes remaining on Senior Day versus Bucknell.
This goes to show you here that never give up.
That's a big thing for Boston University.
Throughout the season, they start out with a record of three and seven.
They lost the Colgate both times, and the regular season first game was by nine points.
Second game was by 16 points in the Patriot League tournament title.
They ended up traveling on the road for enough title game at Colgate, and they won the last conference tournament that was given out for college basketball this season as they beat Colgate in the final game of the season to get the Patriot League tournament title just a remarkable comeback of a season for BU as they start out for and seven and the end of the season with a record that's 2113.
That's what their record was.
Overalls will keep it in New England.
Here's we have number seven on the list.
Is this one goes out to the Yukon Huskies as much improved towards the end stages of season here for you.
Conte finished off of the record in 19 and 12 10 and eight in American, as it was Season two here for head coach Dan Hurley, which resulted in the first winning record Yukon since the 2015 16 season.
Yukon, with 19 and 12 record as eight of their losses are there 12 from this past season were by six points or less.
Three of those losses happen to be in double overtime.
One of those losses wasn't overtime for UConn and the Huskies.
They didn't really start out conference play.
Well, it all they start out one and five in American did not look like a tournament team at all.
Not even close to the bubble is they had a record of 10 and nine at the time with a one in five Americans start.
But things didn't go their way until like late February.
That's when UConn gun in the five game winning streak that close out the season, thinks the senior Guard Christian Battal who have you can.
A big weight down the stretch is he averaged 24.
6 points per game during his last five games of the season.
For the Huskies, it just would have been interesting to see if you can would have been able to sneak their way into the March Madness tournament if it did actually happen, because this team was on the red hot five game winning streak toe end American play during the regular season.
Now let's take a look.
ER, Number six on the list of an improved team from this past season goes out to the Virginia Cavaliers, and you guys are probably wondering why I picked Virginia year as they were supposed to be.
A Top 25 team dropped the entirety this past season, but there was a time that we were like, Whoa, Virginia might not even have have the chance to be in the March Madness tournament because they were losing games at one point during mid February.
We'll talk about that in just a moment.
Virginia, with a record overall 23 7 15 and five in the A.
C C was their final record throughout the season, and they were to the funding national champions heading into this past season for college basketball.
The defense wants against solid number one defense in college basketball.
But offensively, they had the third worst offense on the court in all of college basketball this past season, as Virginia started off really well seven and a record as they held their 1st 7 opponents of 55 points or less.
But then, during their eight game, they got blown out against Purdue, 69 40.
After that, they got beat pretty hard as well in South Carolina.
And then there was a time where we didn't even know if Virginia would actually make it into the March Madness tournament.
As we are flashback to mid January, the Cavaliers at the time had a record of 11 and five overall, three and three and A C C.
And they were coming off some really bad losses.
Ah, loss against Boston College, another Los Ing in Syracuse and against ranked Florida State at the time, three straight losses in a row for Virginia.
There was uncer*****y.
If this team would even make it into the March Madness tournament, and after that, they just got better and better and better.
The worst record that they had in conference play after that would be a record of four and 4 500 And after that, the Cavaliers got red hot, closing out the season, winning their last 12 all the 13 games that included an eight game winning streak that closed it out for Virginia.
And what's impressive is their defense holding the Duke Blue Devils that just 50 points in their victory over Duke, 52 to 50 in February.
As that was, Duke happened to be the number two team in scoring in college basketball, who averaged this past season 82 a half points per game, and Virginia held them to only 50 points.
Now we'll go in the number five journalists as we take a look at the Texas Longhorns as they finished with a record of 19 and 12 overall, 99 the Big 12 Conference.
Texas got out to a pretty solid start nine and one through the 1st 10 games of the season, but it wasn't until their second loss of the season at Providence, they got blown out the dunk, 72 48 that things started to appear that this team for Texas wasn't really turning to be into a tournament team.
It looked more like they could be possibly going for another N I t bid once again.
And things just got even worse down the stretch in January and February for Texas as it looked like Shaka Smart women fired as head coach for the Longhorns.
However, he is still with the program right now, as he was in the hot seat big time.
The low point of the season for Texas happened when they got blown out.
They lost by 29 points against Iowa State, who happened to have a record of 11 and 14 and to this game is when Texas shot The bowling is I Westie.
They shot the ball just terribly from the floor, 29% and allowed the Cyclones the late up that game of 57% from the floor.
After that loss against Iowa State, though, things just totally change for Texas.
They were on the bubble at the time with a record of 14 not even on the bubble, not even close to the bubble.
Actually, 14 and 11 4 in eight was their record in the Big 12 at the time.
But 18 days later, after that game on March 3rd, Texas then not giving up that yet.
They're still there, and they climbed of just this massive, massive hole, and he got right back into the N.
C W tournament projections for the Longhorns.
They went on a five game winning streak, falling that loss against Iowa State and three.
Those teams were projected to be tournament teams in the bracket as they got victories over West Virginia, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
Now we'll take a look here in number four on the list for improved teams from this past season, as this one goes out that Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets not really having much to play for from this past season as they were ineligible for the 2020 n c W tournment.
But they finished with a winning record 17 and 14 overall on the plus side in conference play, plus 500 within 11 and nine conference record in the A C.
It happened to be their first winning conference record, dating back to the 2004 season, when they lost in the 2000 for national title game.
But for Georgia Tech, this improvement really in coverage ing heading into next season as they will be eligible for the tournament in 2021.
A lot of their players over teen from this past season for next season as well for Georgia Tech, but they struggle mightily.
At the beginning of the season 1st 19 games, the Yellow Jackets had a record of eight and 11.
It looked like Georgia Tech would finish with another losing season.
But things started to move on quickly, and they were ableto progress in make a lot of improvement towards the seasons.
And the Yellow Jackets closed out the season, winning their last six out of seven games.
That included an upset victory over number five ranked Louisville and ended their season with a 17 and 14 record, their four to Georgia Tech yellowjackets.
Now we'll take a look at number three on the list.
This one goes out to the Wisconsin Badgers, just an incredible season with head coach Gregg Garden, Wisconsin.
There's they were so improved from what they were doing during the beginning of the season.
It was rough to the very end.
They just got red red hot there for Wisconsin this past season, he finished with a record of 21 in 10 overall, 14 and six in the Big 10 Conference.
They ended up Ah, heading into this season with a missing piece, key missing piece with the departure of the 2019 offseason with Ethan Happ, who graduated as he averaged a double double in his senior season for Wisconsin.
But during the 1st 5 weeks of this past season, Wisconsin seemed nowhere close to being a tournament team at all.
They start out the season with a record of five and five.
They lost in as these teams they lost in ST Mary's.
They lost in its Richmond, a loss against New Mexico.
They also lost against North Carolina STI in Rutgers, which Rutgers actually had a good season out of all seasons as they usually on the bottom of the Big 10 Conference.
Not this year, though, for the record Scarlet Knights.
But in late January, Wisconsin found themselves on the bubble with a 13 and nine record But that's when they suffered a really big loss on their team.
That's when Ah, sop****re guard Kobe King decided to transfer to Nebraska with a loss of Kobe King, the Badgers number three score At the time, it was pretty hard to imagine Wisconsin to get right back into the March Madness tournament picture.
These were the teams that they had in the upcoming schedule.
Hard to imagine that they will be in the tournament with these teams remaining on the schedule.
The schedule included these teams Michigan Steep, Ohio State, purty, Rutgers, Michigan and Indiana.
But guess what? They defeated every single one of those teams I just listed there.
The Wisconsin Badgers beat every single one of those teams.
Things started to click for summaries, and after Kobe Kings departure there for Wisconsin down the stretch, the Badgers just came out of nowhere from being a bubble team to eventually winning the Big 10 a regular season title.
And they survived a bunch of close games in the conference.
The best call best conference, in my opinion, in college basketball from this past season here with a Big 10 Conference, just whether well deserved award there, Greg guard got for Big 10 coach of the Year because what an improvement he had for the Wisconsin Badgers this past season.
Now we move on and number two in the last year.
For most improved teams from this past season for college basketball, this one goes out to the U.
Bruins finished off of the record of 19 and 12 overall, 12 and six in the Pac 12 and it was their first season under a new head coach, **** Cronin, former Cincinnati Bear Cats head coach and season one of the U.
And this is just another example of a slow start with a massive turnaround and a great job by **** Cronin as head coaches, he got Pac 12 Pac 12 honors here for coach of the year in 20 21st 1st season for UCO.
Just the massive turn around you see always started the season with a losing record of eight and nine that also included a terrible loss in nonconference Lee against Cal Steve 4 10 It wasn't until January 30th that U.
A had started clicking, and they got their first victory against the quality opponent.
It was against number 20 rank Colorado nine days later.
After that, you see, Ali knocked off another top 25 team number 23 ranked Arizona, by 13 points to beat them.
And then you see a way.
After that, they will win against their next six opponents to put together a seven game winning streak.
They did lose in their season finale against City rival use USC.
But the Bruins would have been in tournament contention at the time on the bubble if the tournament.
Actually, it happens.
Kudos out there.
The Pac 12 head coach of the year in his first season for U. C L. A.
And **** Cronin.
What an incredible turnaround for the Bruins.
And that's excess, the number one here on the West for the most improved team from this past season for college basketball's, this one goes out to the Providence Friars.
Incredible turnaround Ed equally had for PC this past season.
Just a tale of two halves, just unfortunate.
Nonconference is they were one of the biggest disappointments in the first half of the season.
Lee leading up to Ah, January 1st for Providence as they went seven and six in nonconference play, and these losses happen to terrible teams for Providence.
Man, they were bad.
Ah, losses against these teams.
In the nonconference Lee, they lost against Northwestern, lost against Penn from the Ivy League loss against Charles Charleston.
It lost against a long beat state, which had just an awful season this past season in college basketball.
But, ah, problems also lost against in state rival Rhode Island by 14 points, and he also lost against Florida by 32 points.
That was just a bad loss against Florida, but that game was basically a wake up call for Providence as they finally start to pick up the pieces.
After that, the next game, after the Florida lost a demolished Texas at home by 22 points and this is by Providence, hired added coolly, and it's stuck with him for nine straight seasons.
Now it's because Ed E.
Coli is able to resurrect the team straight from the dead as a head coach and just able to propel them for during a conference sleet.
And that is exactly what and Cooley did as head coach this past season for the Providence Friars.
They closed out the season red hot on a six game winning streak, finishing fourth in the Big East Conference.
That was while in state rival Rhode Island collapsed down the stretch, going three and four during their last seven games.
Providence went from not even being close into the bracket to what have locked the spot when they just completely destroyed DePaul in their final game of the season on senior 1993 55 in the season finale.
One player that showed just tremendous progression at the end of the season was LeBron Pippins, the point guard of Providence years.
He was a transfer from U Mass.
He averaged over 21 points per game, his sop****re season for the Minutemen at U Mass.
But Pickens coming in the season for Providence.
He struggled at the star, but he just caught fire down the last stretch of the season there for LeBron Pickens as he averaged just above 19 points per game during his final six games of the season.
That's a fryer also shot the ball during his last six games that 54% from the floor.
His highlight there for the season for LeBron Pickens is a province friar happened in the game against Villanova.
That's where he scored a season high 27 points that included the last six out of eight points which took their team to victory over Ah, Top 15 rate Villanova team at Wells Fargo Arena there and Ed Cold even state.
It was after a victory against Marquette.
He stated this quote.
There's no more desperate team in America and Providence College.
Close quote, thereby, medically.
And it was desperation mood throughout that course of the season there.
Once conference play struck as Providence just rallied off the victories.
They have five straight victories against ranked opponents in their conferences.
They want against Butler, one against Crates and one against State in the whole one against Marquette.
One against Don't know, but every single one of these teams was ranked in the top 25 when they beat them there for Providence.
They want against every single one of their conference teams in the Big East.
They won at least once they're in a conference.
This is just the testament that this college basketball season is a marathon and medically, did it resurrecting Providence just straight from the dead bottom right up there, and this team would have made it into the tournament if it would have happened this past March.
And what an incredible turnaround for the province fryer.
So that is a wrap here to my video here on sportscast, there on the sports dish as it happens to be the top 10 most improved college basketball teams throughout the 2019 2020 season.
Thanks so much for watching everybody is This is the sports dish here in SportsCastr.
