and welcome back everybody on the sports dish on SportsCastr today as I'll be talking about college basketball here, we're gonna talk about today the top 10 most disappointing college basketball teams, in my opinion, for the 2019 2020 college basketball season.
Now some of these teams in the list that I'll be talking about today, In my opinion, we're wages to overhyped in the preseason.
They didn't come even close to a living up to expectations this past season, while other teams in the list over here.
They just had a rough season in general as he just kept on losing game after game after game and and other teams in the list here.
Unfortunately, the injury bug hit them in.
He just cannot catch up in the standing.
So today we're gonna talk about Top 10 moves, disappointing college basketball teams of the 2019 2020 college basketball season Here.
This list of my opinion will be an order from the least disappointing team and number 10 to the most disappointing team on my list.
Now starting off in number 10 they have a two way tie year on number 10 for both of these teams.
They just add rough seasons in general for these two teams the Evansville Purple Aces and the Nebraska Cornhuskers years, these two teams just yipes problem seasons, um, all over the place by these two teams.
We'll talk about a year.
We'll take a look at Evansville first as they finished off the record and nine and 23 overall, zero in 18 in the Missouri Valley Conference as the past college basketball season was full of ton of surprises playing upsets.
First, there was Evansville, seven days into the college basketball season that they knocked off number one rate Kentucky at referee and two weeks later was a Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.
You knocked off the number one team in the nation, the Duke Blue Devils.
But both of these teams here complete 1 80 for the direction of these two men major programs throughout the season.
Austin and Stephen F.
Austin ended with a record of 28 3 while Evansville, they went winless in conference play, and they had a record throughout the year of nine and 23 in 18 and conference play after starting out with a record of three.
You know, many thought that Evans Bill could possibly make a Cinderella running determined three games into the season.
But after that, the losses started.
They lost three straight games against S M U, a blowout loss against East Carolina than a loss that George Washington Evansville was able to get back on the right track.
They won five straight games after that to go eat and three.
And then they won their last game of the season, which was all the way back in December 21st which they won in overtime by two points against Murray State's five days later.
After that day in December, 21st brings us to December 26.
That's when news broke, where the head coach of Evansville, Walter McCarty, will be put on the ministry that leave by the university after alleged ***ual misconduct and violating Evansville, his title nine policy.
That's according to ESPN and then Evansville.
After that, he would get fired from the program on January 21st.
The Purple Leases would then go to two separate head coaches for the remainder of the season.
Now move on to the second team here, tied with Evansville in number 10.
That goes out to Nebraska as Nebraska.
Just a rough season seven and 25 overall to an 18 in the Big 10 Conference as they had a new head coach with Fred Hoiberg, massive roster rebel from the previous season.
It was expected.
In my opinion, I thought it would have been a down year for Nebraska, but I did not expect him to be this terrible man.
They were just awful.
Power conference teams are supposed to win most, if not all, their games against mid major programs.
Yet Nebraska somehow managed to these four games against mid major teams in nonconference.
Playing their season opener, they lost by 19 points that you see, Riverside.
Nebraska also losses the Southern Utah George Mason in North Dakota once they got into conference Boy that Cornhuskers, they were just atrocious.
They lost 17 straight games that close out the year Justin Unfortunate season, where number two and number three scores and the team they, Sean Burke and Cam Mac both ended up receiving suspensions, and Mac was not only suspended once but twice during the season, the 1st 1 being a violation of team rules 2nd 1 was a suspension for leaving a scene of a two car accident.
And negligent driving this past year was so bad for Nebraska that they had to end up bringing in two players from the football team because their team was short handed in the first round of the Big 10 tournament this season.
In a nutshell, could be basically summed up like this during the final game of the season.
That's when their head coach, Fred Hoiberg, had to be taken to the hospital.
Do the illness that happened during a final four minutes of the first round of the Big 10 tournament game against Indiana.
People are panicking an arena.
The Nebraska team had to be put in isolation in the locker room, along with a staff of the two hours after the game.
It was duration was the two hours after the game they were held in the locker room.
Do do possible Corona virus exposure, they thought to the head coach.
But good news did come back, however, that the head coach, Fred Hoiberg, was diagnosed with a common cold, so it actually wasn't Corona virus.
Now move on here in the number nine on the list for the teams that were just disappointing this past season.
For college basketball, this one goes out to the Georgetown Hoyas, 15 and 17 was their record five and 13 in the Big East Conference.
And heading into this past season, I thought that they, without a chance to be a part of the bubble and compete Thio be a part of the March Madness tournament being the bubble butt.
The boys were like that.
He started out the season well, 10 and three record.
But that was until the injury bug hit him with bad luck there as leading score Mack McLaurin, he was on the verge of a breakout sop****re season, averaging over 15 points per game.
And unfortunately, ah, foot injury derailed a seasonally January, then their number to score for Georgetown and leading rebounder Omer.
Your seven ended up missing games down the stretch, one ankle injury and James oh, Kinjo.
He only played off seven games throughout the season for Georgetown before announcing that he would leave into the transfer portal for James A Kinjo and injuries and just roster losses.
It was a major problem this past season, more of a lost season for to Georgetown the Hoyas as they lost their final seven games to end Big East play.
Now we're going to number eight on the last year's.
This one goes out to the Iowa State Cyclones as they went from winning the Big 12 tournament in 2019 to finishing second to last in a conference right ahead of Kansas City in 2020.
Heading into this past season, I was stating Were expected, in my opinion, to be a front runner in the Big 12 but I didn't think that they were least 20 games now.
In the off season, they had lost marry All Shea Hawk and hailing Ward and Tucker to the N B A.
I was State did end up losing the last six or seven games that close out the season.
Projected MBA draft pick in the first round, Tyree's Halliburton was on the team.
Is he averaged over 15 points per game of the season, but he unfortunately fractured his rest in early February, had a miss the remainder of the season and then there was a really bad loss of non conference play as well, for I would say it was against Florida A and M, who had a record all one and nine at the time heading into that game for the Rattlers, as that was just a terrible loss there for Iowa State's and they only recorded 12 victories on the season.
Now go on to another disappointing team, this time at number seven.
Who's out to New Mexico here? The Lobos, with a record of 19 and 14? Not really a bad record, but 7 11 day after losing conference record in the Mountain West.
Always well at the start, though.
They start out with a 15 and three record there at the top of the conference in the Mountain West, along with San Diego State in Utah State.
And they also had a win and on conference play against Wisconsin, won against number nine points.
The Badgers ended up being the Big 10 Conference champions, but fast board here, too.
After the 15th win for New Mexico, they have a record of 15 and three, and then hours after that win for New Mexico against Air Force in January 11th senior Carlton Bragg, the center of a team who at the time was averaging a double double over 12 points per game and over 10 rebounds per game was removed from the team.
He got arrested for driving while intoxicated.
He also had possession of under one ounce of marijuana in its cars.
Well, so Brad's arrest coming nine days after he was reinstated to the team, falling a three game suspension where university officials investigated ***ual misconduct allegations allegations against him by another student? Just unfortunate here for Braga's.
He played his first few years at Kansas for college basketball and transferred over to New Mexico to play Ah, his last few seasons, but just unfortunate here, as they were in the hunt to see if they could be at the top of the conference.
Then it all came crashing down for New Mexico with bragging the lineup.
They were great, the other record of 13 and two, but without them, they suffered going six and 12 along the way.
Now go to number six here on the list.
This one goes up to the Georgia Bulldogs disappointing season for Georgia.
This past years, they had they had the number five ranked recruiting class coming into town by Anthony Edwards.
Five star recruits top five in the nation coming in for a freshman and potential number one, eh? NBA draft pick for 2020 coming up.
But the Bulldogs? They also had a couple other recruits.
Four star recruits in there.
They had three of them as a freshman heading him.
But those four star recruits never really panned out that much of an impact in the season.
Ultimately, it was Edward to carry the team, averaging over 19 points per game.
Georgia did have a great start to the season.
They start out with a 10 entry record.
Their tents when was against number nine rings. Memphis.
But unfortunately, the defense has crumbled throughout the years.
They were ranged in the back of college basketball, giving up over an average of 75 points per game in Georgia.
Here on the list for a disappointing season, that number six.
Now we'll go in the Davison here, and number five is They had a disappointing year.
16 and 14 was the record 10 and eight in the Atlantic 10.
You are projected to be a front runner along with VCU in the preseason.
Atlantic 10 predict predictions, but Davison just unfortunately was not at the top of top of the conference.
Throughout the year, he did retain their top four leading scores from the season before.
As they had guards Callen, Grady and John Axel Goodman said they were coming off a spectacular season and 2018 19.
Grady average 17.
3 points per game.
Axl Governments in average, 16.
9 points per game.
But this Davidson team that finished 24 in 10 a year prior only managed to go 16 and 14 this past season.
The reason why consistency They struggle to find any sort of consistency throughout the season.
They were great at home with an 11 and one record, but on the road, a struggle going for nine.
So Money's wins by Davidson It would make you think that they will be a much better team than indicated.
Take a look in the month of February.
Here is that Davidson one against U Mass.
They won against Fordham I 30.
They beat ST Bonaventure by 29.
It was at ST Bonaventure's Home Court and then Davidson, one against LaSalle by 25.
So those winds basically try to convince you that this team will be much better than their record at indicated, but not because they were 16 and 14.
Disappointing team On a year for the Davis and Wildcats, they were expected to be much better.
Now go on here in the number four on the list, this one's the Memphis Tigers is all sort of things went down this past season for Memphis is they had a record of 21 in 10 10 Indian American.
The Tigers were supposed to be solid, like a Top 15 team with a lot of consistency in the rankings, as they were projected, but they had a lot going.
Offer them tons of potential through the ceiling for in Memphis Tigers.
They brought in the number one ranked freshman class, along with the number one freshman, seven foot center James Wiseman.
But things started getting rocky over here.
Second game of the six seas and minutes before game number two versus Illinois, Chicago, the NC double role James Wiseman and eligible do the head coach, Penny Hardaway being a booster to provide $11,500 that James Wiseman's family before Hardaway was a coach at Memphis.
That was Ah, do the moving expenses there for $11,500 even without rolling by the N C. Double A.
Wiseman had plead that night against Illinois Chicago, and he also played in the next game against Oregon after that.
But that was all that Wiseman would play just three games during his college career.
After that, he would only, uh, he would.
He would receive a 12 game suspension for violations of his mother, accepting that $11,500 from the head coach Penny Hardaway back in the summer, 2017.
And then it was.
A month later, in December 2019 James Wiseman announced that he would leave Memphis to prepare for the 2020? NBA draft.
The season basically was a mess of problems for Memphis, even though they were in the tournament hunt for quite a bit of time.
That was until they lost the Tulsa by 40 points and 14 and three record.
He started out with.
But then that loss against Tulsa really dampen their chances and also other bad losses against sM you, South Florida and UConn from Memphis.
Now, if the NC double tournament had happens in 2020 Memphis would have needed basically most likely to win their conference tournament in American Thio.
Get a spot in the bracket there because this team just had so much potential heading into this past season and just crumbled down without James Wiseman and just everything surrounding this program for this past season.
So now we'll move on the number three ****yst as this.
The supporting team goes out to VCU.
The V C Ram's finished off the season with an 18 and 13 record eight and 10 and 8 10 play, and this was supposed to be a team that was supposed to be competitive with Davis and eat 10 heading in to the season.
VCU was projected in the 2019 preseason poll.
The answered in it number 25 the return numerous players from a year prior, but they were looking good throughout most of the year.
At the end of January, VCU had a record of 16 and five, but their final 35 days of college basketball has to go down as a disastrous one as VC went only two and eight during their final 10 games.
Stretch there to end the season at the end of February, it's number two leading scorer on a team, and senior Deron Jenkins announced that he will be stepping down from the program.
For VCU, the focus on the personal health matter.
It was just a big loss in the shock for the visa programs during the final week of the season.
Here is I got them on my list for disappointing team for the season at number three, bringing us now the number two on the list as this one would be the Washington Huskies.
Washington with a leasing record saying a 15 of 17 record five and 13 in the Pac 12 Conference.
Heading into the season, the Huskies have brought in the number six ranked recruiting class.
According to ESPN, these recruits were led by 25 star recruits in top 10 incoming freshmen Isaiah Stuart and Jana McDaniels.
The Huskies have lost two players of the MBA in 2019 defensive player of the year, Matisse table and leading score for the team.
The year prior in jail in the well, the Huskies also lost three attentional seniors off the roster to graduation.
But this incoming freshmen talent, being number six in the nation for the incoming class.
It looked like it had the opportunity to replace that talent ends.
Ring back head coach Mike Hopkins to his third straight winning season at Washington with a possibility of 20 plus ones.
But instead, Hawkins ended up with his first losing season as head coach for Washington.
Everything was well to start the year with a victory in their season opener against ranked Baylor, who at the end of the year was looking at a number one seed for N.
C W tournament towards seasons.
And Washington started out the season pretty good, tending to with their record.
Two losses were to Tennessee and Gonzaga, But once Pac 12 play began, they just fell down downhill.
After that, the hot ceased orbital win games They lost nine straight games on the road during the mid point, a conference play and then Washington.
Just the team was just so much preseason hype around them.
And with their young talent, unfortunately for them to get swept by in state rival Washington State and finished dead last in the conference.
Which brings us now the one more team remaining on the list.
The biggest disappointment Ford is past season for college basketball goes in the North Carolina Tar Heels, a losing record at 14 and 19 6 and 14 e c c.
Nobody had it rough erred in the Tar Heels this past season.
After Nine Street and see the tournament appearances, UNC had its first losing season since the 2001 02 C's, and nothing went right for North Carolina that Tar Heels were supposed to be solid.
They had their five star recruit.
They brought in with Cole Anthony, the point guard.
However, Anthony ended up missing 11 games, Dio due to a knee injury.
North Carolina was ranked at number nine to start in the preseason poll.
Everything was looking good.
You start out with six and on the record.
And then they suffered a devastating loss 25 point loss against the Ohios on their home court at Chapel Hill for UNC.
And then everything after that just went downhill.
What's even more heartbreaking is this is that North Carolina lost six games by three points or less in the year, and three of those losses came into overtime.
One of them was at the buzzer against Duke.
Even more unfortunate there for UNC after losing their first game of the year, 2020 against Georgia Tech for North Carolina.
Had coach Roy Williams called his team quote the least gifted team I've ever coached in the time that I've been back here closed.
Quote there for the quote by Roy Williams, the head coach for UNC.
A week later in January 11th UNC Fella home to Clemson, marking Clemson's first win in Chapel Hill in at 60.
Try Just how frustrating was this past season for North Carolina, where the Tar Heels they went on separate losing streaks looking like this? Ah, losing streak of four straight losses, one of five straight losses and then the last one being seven straight losses in a row from the North Carolina Tar Heels.
So that's a wrap here to my video in the top 10.
Most disappointing college basketball teams in the 2019 2020 season hope you enjoyed it.
