America, Brian for SportsCastr Live and on iTunes.
A gentleman and Tyler.
It's going back to where we all started.
We're gonna talk to Vegetable today.
Let's bring him in now.
Guards, How are you doing? I'm doing well.
Um hey, there you are.
Our How are you, Brian? Oh, uh, okay, Murray better.
You're now with you guys.
Um, but, uh, anyway, this is going to be the craziest episode of Paris for tonight in America we've ever had.
Um so, Sam, take it away.
Now he looked to think back to some of our some of the ones we did a little while ago.
Like the conference Championships episode with a long was like a rant on both ends.
But the Patriots just announced a couple hours ago they will be getting new uniforms.
This was this had been suspected, um, by a lot of people, including me and people and sources.
It was it had been suspected that it would be just small change is like making the color rush the blue color rush with the blue pants, the new home jersey and the white color rush with white pants.
The new away jersey.
But I think it's gonna be more than that.
Because in the teaser, it said something old, something new, something blue, something borrowed.
So what could that mean? Do you think the patriots are going back to their to their nineties? Look, uh, I have no idea.
Beautifully, I honestly love that.
What I What I do know is that unless we draft a quarterback, I'm getting that number four Jared sit in Jersey.
I think it's number four.
I'm not even sure.
Wave got on draft night.
A week from yesterday.
Now I'm if you're watching on SportsCastr.
Lied the draft a week from now.
No less than a week away.
Yeah, it's coming.
It's coming at us really fast.
You'll be watching us, right? Are you guys doing a live thing for it? Yeah.
Uh, watch that rather than the drift.
Um, so, yeah, that's gonna be fun.
Um, so So, uh oh, well, I've got a marked drop.
You could see it on the website, but at our sports in next dot com.
But, um, Joe Burrows go first.
I don't think he should.
I think Jason is a better player.
You can argue with that all you want, but we're not here to do that right now.
We're here to absolutely torment each other.
So, um, Sam, uh, who do you think we'll go? Uh, who do you think the patriots will pick if they were to pick a quarterback at their spot at our spot at 23.
So I'm expecting, um I'm expecting Burrow to go one which is which is definitely deserved.
And also a big team need their cause.
Andy Dalton doesn't cut it.
Um, Then you get I'm expecting to and Herbert to also go within the top within the top eight.
So that's where you get into the complications of Do you like Jordan, love? Do you like Jake from or do you like Jalen hurts or who's the guy you like for me? The patriots.
I'm not sure if they're really gonna look at quarterback in the first round.
I've heard from sources that for the first round, quarterback is the way they're looking to go.
But I'd actually be surprised if Bill were to pull the trigger on the first round on a quarterback, a 23.
I don't think he likes any of them.
I think that if you I think that the one that he would like best would probably be hurts in more of, Ah, in more of a intermediary role.
For the moment, I think he wants to stick with Cinnamon Hoyas as to as two quarterbacks for now.
Obviously, I think you see a later round quarterback coming off the board, maybe a practice squad guy.
Like what we did with settling for that one year.
But, I mean, that didn't work out.
Um, I think that you can see, I think Patriots more likely to a quarterback in 1/4 or fifth round.
I think addressing receiver, offensive line and defensive playmaker is more pressing that.
Yeah, I could see that.
So now I have always been on Big and Sam, you know, this that I think the Redskins should treat their number two.
I think they can get something for it.
I'm now I'm not saying that they will.
You know what? Actually, I'm gonna go out on a limb here, Not not on a big one.
They won't they.
As everybody knows, they're probably not going to, if not certainly as a Redskin Stan with absolutely no bias intended.
Um, I think that trading it so it would would chase Young make the Redskins into I say 18 8 night night.
Uh, what is it? 90 988 or what? Let's call either even 89 Player.
Um, I don't even see it happening.
He he may get us to a seven in 10 team, but if you think about it, if you trade chase young verse if you trade the second overall, pick this up in overall pick has a lot more, for sure value when it comes to what the Redskins can get in return.
Um, so I mean, I think they do that they want, but anyway, we hope everybody's staying safe.
Doing grown a virus times something to say about that.
Oh, um, I think that I I've watched a lot of chase young tape because it is some of the greatest defensive line tape I've seen in a while.
I think it's better tape than Nick Bozo had.
Um Young had 16.
5 sacks last year at Ohio state.
I think he what? He's a franchise player.
I think that passing on him when when you don't I think that passing on him for anyone but Joe Burro would be a tragic mistake.
Remember, I did say the same thing about Quentin Williams last year that passing on him would be a big mistake for any franchise.
And, um, I think he's been a big mistake for the Jets.
I mean, he walked into a airport, tried to bring a gun on a plane, but I still believe in Quinn and Williams talent.
And I believe that Chase Young's talent is unmatched in this draft.
I mean, you can make the argument for Joe Burro.
And I agree that Jo Bro should go number one because it's a big need for them and they and they need something on that team that's gonna spark interest.
And they got it. And I gotta get the quarterback.
Joe Burrow is that quarterback.
But I think that so if the one be toe one, eh? Chase Young is I mean, the number two pick.
You're getting Chase young here.
You're getting a guy that's gonna be an all pro player, not in his first year.
But I don't think the Redskins are looking to be a playoff team in 2020 because I think that they think that they still need to develop their quarterbacks situation.
I think they still need to develop there.
I think they still need to develop a lot of things, but I think the chief's young is Ah, homerun talent year.
I think the Redskins should not trade that pick.
So as I was saying, your memory saying sick.
Tyler, what is one thing you have been doing to pass the time video games? Have you been watching the horse and the horse and be a to K players Torn? It is my house.
I didn't catch that.
Yeah, I think that there is.
So what have you been doing, Tyler? Uh, well, we'll wait for him to come back as of right now.
Sam, what have you been doing the past time? Well, um, we've been we've been an online school, but But what? I've been doing a lot of out of the park baseball.
I've won three consecutive championships in my Boston Red Sox in.
And then I've also been any network is doing a lot of reruns of old hockey games.
I'm watching a lot of those.
I'm consuming it while my my brother's You're saying that's illegal? That's illegal. That's illegal.
And I'm like, You don't know anything about hockey.
Um, watching a lot of the old basketball baseball games.
Just a lot of that stuff.
And there's a lot of things on TV.
I wish they would show like an old game.
No one remembers.
Right? Uh, you know.
Tyler, where have you been? Doing it? Passed the time watching a lot of basketball.
It's kind of it.
So you're going back Looking at old film Scene was going on. Yeah.
Watching a lot of college guys from this year, some international basketball, just catching up on scouting, taking full advantage of Ah, the timeto.
Nobody's doing anything to catch up on some scouting and, um, that kind of thing.
So it's been pretty fun.
I, uh I thought I'd be a lot worse than it is, but I'm kind of enjoying it, right.
So I mean, now we're gonna move, so the MBA obviously is suspended indefinitely.
They just wrote leads to plan on how they want to get back and the about 30 a day that they claim nature one once it's a legal, be safe and see moral to come back and play basketball again.
So, Tyler, what is the one thing is earn advantages there.
One team was an advantage or disadvantage.
I mean, everybody has been talking about the box right now on I mean, the league hiatus as well. Call it.
Is anybody a specific advantage or disadvantage right now? No.
I mean, for the most part, I feel like everybody's kind of in the same boat where they're not able to be with their teammates are not able to be at the team facility.
They're not able to be with the trainers that they're used to.
Um, even like the guy like the development staff.
Like all those guys think all the n b A players are pretty used to being with those guys on a daily basis.
Having that thrown off is definitely ah, a red flag for all teams.
I don't think any team really has a specific advantage going into it.
They're all kind of in the same boat.
But I guess one silver lining is that, you know, even though team you're on is not doing it.
No other teams have that advantage, too.
So it's not that one team will be, you know, step ahead of the others.
It'll be about once it does come back, how teams are going to adjust to integrating guys back into their system.
Um, that whole kind of thing to just, um you get everything back to normal, which is good, which is not gonna be easy.
But it'll be interesting to see how teams do that.
And it's also gives teams through his players time to recover from injuries on that.
Uh, so if the season returns in like July and I mean, you wouldn't have originally had the MBA in July.
So this gives team players time to recover and come back as maybe like, except if they're if they're teams like 1/5 Cedar 67 seed.
And but with this sky there a four seed or three seed, I'm mostly thinking about a guy.
I'm mostly thinking about Kevin Durant, who has who has said he's not gonna play, but like guys like that who are injured and need the time to come back.
This gives them time, but the question obviously, how how they readjust.
Um, a lot of I haven't started what Tyler was saying, Oh, era back.
It's the same thing for all the teams, no matter what.
This is one of the interesting scenarios where I mean, there are advantages and disadvantages, but every team's going through a similar, similar experiences right now.
But, you know, I think one of the interesting things that we can not about right now for the arrival of our inner city er it is Theo expansion of either of eligibility.
A swell is great for that matter, as we just saw today from the N.
C double A winner today on how they will get more more year of eligibility in college.
And timer has that effect both the recruiting process and the process of drafting players into the professional leagues.
Yes, so I think first up with recruiting, you're gonna see a lot of guys that are in the guest class of 2021 in high school who were juniors this past year.
I'm not needing that eligibility, not needing the test scores and only needed to complete seven semesters of high school like a high school court work.
A lot of those guys would be able to do things online during the summer, potentially reclassified to join the class of 2020 and play in the fall next year.
So that could be really big in terms of like the draft next year, because a lot of the top 2021 guys will be able to join the class of 2020 and thus creating a bigger talent pool for the draft.
And then, I think, in terms of building like a college roster, um, the draft.
There's a lot of uncer*****y around obviously right now.
So you see a lot of guys that aren't necessarily declaring right now because they don't know what kind of the outlook looks like because, you know, nobody knows what's going on.
So a lot of guys have returned into college.
Um, and then a lot of colleges, they're having trouble kind of rebuilding the rosters because they don't know you know who's coming back from the draft, and then what kids can they still recruit from high school? I'm in the transfer portal's been a mess.
So, um, having those eligibility and kind of academic guidelines set in stone, I think it's a first step for this process.
But a lot of it's still just such uncer*****y.
And I think a lot of people in the industry are kind of, you know, confused and unsure of what the future's gonna look like just because of that, right? And Sam, uh, what do you think now? A lot of things about the recruiting process are interesting, but I I see how there are players that can that might come back and reclassify.
But then the question with these players Are they mature enough physically, mentally to play college? And then oh, and then these guys, a lot of them who are not declare for the draft are making the decision of I'm of I need more time in college or I need to or I'd like to stay here and wait this out because I don't know how them have.
The market's gonna look how the draft is gonna look.
There could be players there could obviously, now, um, what we saw the other day with a lot of players going to the D league and stuff I think we're gonna see.
I think we're gonna start seeing more of that.
So it puts college coaches on like it gives them a wild card with recruiting.
It gives the players a wild card against Coach is concluding.
Uh, anyway, uh, this is now, um, breaking here That is now breaking here.
Um, from ESPN and Adrian would Moreau ski N v A.
Will be holding 1/4 of salaries starting not May.
Fish cats from Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN.
This is the n b a n e N b a players association agreeing of holding that quarter of a paycheck.
Um, so, Sam, I mean, whether or not it matters And you know what? We don't want to quit the MBA, but how is this going to expense of players both in morale and in our happiness from this unprecedented time? I don't think that the players main concern right now has anything to do with their salaries.
I think that the players main concerns are still staying healthy and staying fit getting their exercise.
But I don't I don't think this is gonna have a major impact on some on a lot of players.
However, there could be some players making less that this could affect a little bit more.
But I But I do believe still that you see that you're not that it's not going to affect the players as much.
It's it's, um it's something that I think cause I mean, most of these players are making are making a lot of money that I think, I think, for the envy.
Adding for the N B.
A thistle is something that they probably needed to dio um uh, this You said this came out just breaking right now.
So I mean, this this is this is this is new to me, too.
I did. I hadn't heard about this.
Yeah, I mean, I think it's the right thing to do.
Obviously, money is kind of a crunch right now on like Simpson.
A lot of these guys are making a lot of money that even 25% isn't the end of the world for a lot of these guys, and there are some cir***stances where it is, but in reality, that's kind of what the world is right now, and the fact that they're still making 75% of that salary is still pretty impressive.
But if you look like the MBA is able to do this, but international basketball teams are folding guys.
They're not getting their guarantee contracts.
So just the fact that they're holding the quarter is still impressive.
That the rest of it's still getting paid to them right and I'm not gigs, is we? Come to think of it, one of the things Tyler pointed out was that still 75% off.
For a lot of these players, huge, huge amounts of salary mean people are getting laid off.
Unemployment's going all over the place and our national level and on an international level, UM, 25% in a lot of countries thes n B A.
Players are certainly not the first ones to look at when it when it comes to these, when it comes to these times and their employment and even more specific than money.
But, uh, I mean it is news, and, um, it will be occurring now, just a month just under a month from now.
Um, as ESPN has did so again n beholding 1/4 of the salaries of the MBA paychecks on May 15th according to Aid Removed Moro's kid, He is being so, Um, anyway, back to the N.
A is a whole Sam, um so the higher market teams have.
I mean, especially with me, Georg.
It's less show because they're not as great of basketball teams, higher market teams and Maura and epicenters of this outbreak.
Um, do you think that putting a poll forget about the Knicks on the Nets? Well, yesterday on Twitter, New York teams posted a video of, like, We're in this together.
Do this for New York.
I think that I think that the Nets, the Knicks, all the teams in New York, they're doing a great job there, pitching in for the community there, supporting the community.
So I think that and it spent.
And especially with how Knicks owner James Dolan he had the virus.
I don't know if he still has it, but I think that this is something like the Knicks organization is taking it seriously.
I mean, the entire league is taking it very seriously.
I mean, we're not playing basketball games. There's a reason of that.
And I think that teams like the Knicks, the Nets um, teams in this situation where they ah where there's a lot of case around them.
They're taking it very seriously There, they're doing things in a in a merchant state emergency they're giving the New England Patriots on the aircraft spelt with a K flew to China, got masks, brought him back to New England, then delivered them on a truck down to New York.
So I mean, the sports teams are pitching in like crazy for this effort.
But not that, but But there's a lot of teams that can't.
There's a lot of teams around the world that can't afford to do this.
Um, I remember I remember, um, Non League Soccer.
They were playing it because, like like a week after everything was canceled, they were still playing some non league soccer in England and, like their people were outraged.
And the and the clubs were like, We will go under if we don't play so like and the players are obviously a lot of non league players are aren't made very much from the from the game, so like a lot, there's a lot of things where in lower and lower leagues in around the world as Tyler mentioned European basketball, There's a lot of teams are shutting down.
Um, it's just that a situation where we can't where we can't control this, what we can, but we we can't Well, we could have if we if we saw if we saw it coming better.
But we can't control it now and it's out of our.
It's out of our grasp toe.
Do anything and we got it.
We got to figure out the best way to stay safe, cause because the health is coming because for the MBA and all these sports leagues around the world, at this point, health is becoming the primary concern before their bottom line.
I'm Sam healthier.
Coming before sports, it's e starting with.
I love saying the domino effect with Adam Silver.
Afterwards, you go bare test positive for the virus now it's gonna be two months from two months ago in a few weeks.
Certainly it's going fast and close.
Some days ago are super long.
Some days they're going really short.
The weeks along the days are short, so I'm sorry I said that wrong.
The days are long. We too. Sure.
In this scenario, I think, um, but, you know, with the sports world, I mean, it's it's an outlet for people to take their minds off of the real world cir***stances.
Or just add on with some comforting television or radio or SportsCastr alive, as we never see.
But, um I mean, Sam, you have been following Australian stuff.
Um, So, um, they why don't we give you about two minutes of air time right now? Talking about Noor Ozzy rules footie.
Um, so the NFL season, they they started an empty stadia.
Um, the Marvel Stadium, the M C g.
All eerily looking empty.
It gave us a window into what our sports without fans could look like.
This was late March, I believe, Like the 22nd.
23rd. Maybe it was a week after that. I'm not sure.
And so then in this thing in the second at halftime of one of the the second, the last game of the first week of the season, by the way, they were shortening the quarters.
They were shortening the season's everything was like conserving energy.
So, like they ah announced at halftime of the second to last game of the first week.
That boom after this week, we're done like we're not playing until at least May 31st.
They said that with one game left in the week, they were gonna play that last game and that and that second half of the other game.
So it's eerie now.
Watching it was Yuri watching the second half of that game, but I didn't watch.
The next game was like like, four in the morning by the time I was on and I'm not Ray done hanging on, by the way, Um, so you realize no one else watched that game, right, sir? Pat McAfee watched it.
And that Matthew's actually it.
Pat McPhee actually went actually got Mason ****s.
An American player of this sport who, seven feet tall, played college basketball.
Oklahoma State monopolies for Collingwood.
Magpie sees Jennifer.
Is Clay there for a bunch of years? He got him on his pat McAfee show.
It was pretty cool.
Um, I'm I'm not gonna go on forever here.
I probably could problem, I think, probably an understatement.
But, um, anyway, we moved back.
So the college basketball season one of my favorites, as you both know, big in the bracketology on the bracket matrix that ranked 107th last year.
I was trying to be Jolan RV this year.
I didn't get a chance to do that.
I had a metric a new metric ready it The pandemic totally wrapped that up.
But, you know, um, what do you think? I mean, we talked about how it's gonna affect the professional and drafting and how recording process on the other.
Said which, Obviously, Tyler, you're very experienced.
Didn't know, um, in college itself.
What is that? You think? I mean, there's there's so many different things that I could I prophesized about what's gonna happen in college basketball football way.
Don't know football is gonna come back, but with college basketball, I don't see how is it trite phrases? How's it gonna work in the season next year, having guys that me be spanning potentially five, even with grad grad students six years apart from each other in a JJ, and with that experience and athleticism, yeah, I mean, it will definitely be different.
And like we've been saying, this is unlike anything we've ever seen or anything that the contrast whole world has ever seen.
Um, so you know, it'll be neat.
It'll be an interesting thing to adjust to whether there's guys that are like their 60 year grad transfers or guys from the high school scene jumping up your early to play with them.
You know who knows what the calendar looks like? Schedule.
It's like like, you know, college is air online for the fall semester, too.
If that ends up being a thing, then like, how does you know? How does college best one kind of adapt to that? Um so there's still so much uncer*****y, and I think that's kind of what scares a lot of people.
Um, it's kind of cause nobody knows what it's gonna look like.
Um, so, yeah, I mean, grad transfers, All that kind of stuff is going to kind of play into a season probably unlike we've ever seen on.
And then whatever they end up doing with the eligibility rules for the winter and spring, um, you know, who knows what all that looks like, But it will be fun to watch.
And I think, um, it will be like an interesting new kind of twist, too.
What? We're kind of used to it.
Yeah, I could see.
I could see that There's already been a lot of transfers that have happened.
Tyreese Martin is coming to UConn, Jacob Top into Kentucky.
That's to Rhode Island guys leaving there.
And how will these guys get adjusted? How will the new recruits be? Get adjusted.
I mean, we we talk about the n b A players readjusting for these transfers and these freshmen coming in, they're gonna have to adjust to a whole new level of basketball on short notice because we might not be.
We might not be ableto have some so many stuff going on in the fall.
Practices air, Probably probably, especially with with football as well.
Practices are gonna be limited.
There are not there, not practice going on right now.
Usually you get the spring practices, but there aren't practices going on right now, So these teams the freshmen, they're gonna have a lot to adjust to coming from the high school level to the college level.
I think that I think that the n c a a is ism doing it is doing a job here. They're trying.
They're trying to figure out that they're figuring out the best ways to get this stuff done.
I think that they're going to be your so honorable and not let anything continue until everything's safe.
But then we might see rushed rushed practices and sloppy football and basketball when it when reduce.
When we do get that I as, uh or coming mirror close here, everybody.
