the following takes place between 8 a.m.
Good morning, everybody.
And welcome to full press coverage. Radio.
It is April the 10th 2020.
And yes, April is just flying by it.
It's It's Ah okay.
No, it's not really, but hey, already 1/3 away through a month.
And that means hopefully we're a little bit closer to getting back to normal life.
Um, you know, each every each and every day that passes.
Ah, technically, we are closer to doing that.
So I'm trying to keep a positive attitude.
So to help me do that, I got to bring in my guy, you know, again, he's Mr Positivity.
Ah, he keeps me balanced.
And ah, you know what? He keeps me in check. Sometimes.
Sometimes I tend to go off the rails.
He is Mr Rhode Island himself.
Use Mike. Debate.
Mike, how you doing today? Look, uh, it's good to be here with you on Friday morning. Definitely.
Uh, definitely a plus.
No question about it.
I don't know about the fountain of positivity, though.
You know, things can sometimes get underneath the skin of my good buddy and myself.
Oh, you know, with an angry mike and angry And two come out a little bit.
And, you know, I think you've seen that a little on social media the last couple of days.
But you know what? At the very least, my friend, it gives us topics to talk about in a time where we really need some topics to talk about.
So, uh, always a pleasure to join you on the microphone and let's get to it.
But yeah, I know for sure.
And, ah, you know, I was all day yesterday.
I mean, obviously working.
You know, that's what I do.
I wait, you know, I wake up in my hands already writing something, you know, that that's just how I function.
Ah, but, ah, all day yesterday I was waiting and waiting and waiting, waiting because ah, final Fantasy seven was released at midnight.
And I was I was ready to Ah, sit there and play it all night.
I'm not gonna lie.
I was I was I was expecting t to not get much sleep last night.
I mean, I I don't generally get a lot of sleep, you know, five hours, Max.
Maybe usually, you know, that's probably something I should work on a little bit, but ah, I was planning on staying up a little bit later than normal to play.
Ah, but then I realized I'm 33 years old, and I just physically can't do that anymore.
So I I ended up playing for about 45 minutes, and then I was I had to fall asleep because again, like I said, 33 not 21.
So I can't just pound a red bull and, you know, kind of keep going, But no, I I It was fun.
Like it said, if you follow me on Twitter, you know, I've been kind of, you know, get excited about it.
You know, I live in 1997 especially when it comes to like, video games.
You know, I'm I'm a ah, final fantasy seven.
You know, ocarina time type of ah, game player.
You know, it would take a job, you know, sports games mixed in between.
But for the most part, that's that's where I'm at.
So I did go to bed a little bit later than normal last night, but I certainly did not stay up all night like I anticipated.
So you're going to get ah ee and full of energy today.
Well, that's good.
Brought to you by coffee.
I'm showing it to the camera right now.
Actually, Theo refills In all actuality, I don't think you're alone there, but I think so many people are rediscovering things that maybe they hadn't rediscovered in so long.
Video games, binge watching, you know, TV shows of books, board games of board games, puzzles.
I read the other day that puzzles are absolutely flying off the shelves and stores.
They're being delivered to homes.
People are ordering them.
It's one of their toughest items to stock right now.
I mean, these these air probably things that people haven't done in quite a while, but with a little bit more time on their hands, they're able to do that.
And you know, from the difficulties that we're seeing all over the country and we're still going through, you know, difficulties, folks.
It's still a very hard time for an awful lot of people.
Um, hopefully one of the positives that comes from this is that people learn to come together a little bit, Maur, and not just come together in times of crisis to help one another.
Because I really have to say the human spirit, for the most part, is resilient when it comes to things like this.
You see people help each other out a lot when they're down.
Ah, when there needs to be some sort of assistance that's provided somebody usually steps up and does that.
We're seeing so much more of that now, and it's heartwarming to see it.
But that resilient spirit is always there in humanity.
I think the one thing that I'm noticing a lot more his family's air coming together, maybe for the first time in a long time, um, they're coming together for dinner time.
They're coming together for entertainment.
Um, and I think this is something that can be a positive now that's not across the board.
There's some families that right now we're stuck together, and it's a combative in volatile situation as well, and that's a conversation for another day.
I don't want to go down that rabbit hole, but at the same time, you know, I think that that does bring it out, But in terms of your choice of video games, I got I have to give you props on final fantasy because that definitely is one of the all time greats.
It's something that you can do.
It can just absolutely suck you in.
I'll be the first to admit I am a complete video game novice.
My extent, I mean, I would.
I'm really, really tempted to hook up my old eight bit Nintendo system and I had when I was a kid.
I still love those games and they will take me right back.
Those those air Phenomenal.
I still do have the console.
And then what? Not So who knows? Maybe I will hook that up and play a little Mike Tyson's punch out or a little rat race or legend of Zelda.
Uh, if the motive strike me, Was that looking to the past link to the past linked to the one on one of my favorite? I mean, I I will.
I will always, um, again, I'm I'm not too far off from you.
Um, I I tried playing.
Ah, I I bought the PS four system.
It's, um it's the first new system I bought in A, you know, in a long time I bought an Xbox one a long time ago, like, six or seven years ago.
But, you know, well, after it came out, I'm not the type of person who, like, you know, counts down the days for certain games to come out.
And, you know, a lot of times my attention span just doesn't Ah, you know, it just doesn't work, because, again, I just I lose interest pretty quickly and look, quite frankly, I'm pretty bad at video games.
It takes me a long time to get good.
Um and, ah, so you know, again, a lot of my history of playing video games comes from, you know, as a kid, whether it's super Nintendo, regular, Nintendo, Sega or, you know, the greatest.
And I I've said it many times before as a kid that the best Christmas I ever had.
Ah, and this is purely based on material goods.
I'm not saying like, you know, this isn't like families coming together.
Just this is purely as a kid.
Ah, the most excitement I've ever had was was getting the end 64 the year after it came out and it was It was, um it was one of the greatest winters.
And and and, uh yeah, it's substitute.
You know, Summer's afterwards.
It was fantastic.
I remember ripping open the box.
And the first thing you see is the, you know, the Mario Super Mario 64 image on the side of the box.
And, yeah, it was it was great.
But, you know, for the most part, I'm a pretty Ah, you know, I'm a pretty simple gamer.
Um, I've played Final Fantasy seven for the original PlayStation.
Many times I actually even I butt in anticipation of the new game coming out last night actually bought Thea you so it's not backwards compatible, So I can't use my old disc from the original PlayStation.
But I did buy online at the PlayStation store.
You could buy the original original final fantasy seven.
So I did do that as well, because I I do anticipate playing that version in the future in addition to this new one.
But, you know, for the most part, I'm I'm again.
I'm a game dinosaur.
It takes me forever to get good at anything outside of a sports game.
And the only reason I'm good at Sports Gaines is because I know the sport.
So, like, you know, at least I know what the goal is for whatever I'm playing, whether it's Madden are NHL 20 or whatnot.
But no, it's it's games have changed quite a bit over the time.
And ah, you know, again, sometimes I I like the more simpler not, you know, in terms of difficulty.
But, you know, more simpler concept of games.
Like, you know, I'm a big, uh, ocarina of time fan, you know, And 64 Selda.
So, uh, yeah, I mean, it's it was fun in.
Like I said, I anticipate doing a little bit more playing today once, you know.
Of course, I get some work done today.
You know, you got you can't rest.
You know, I can't I can't skip work.
I have to keep working, you know? So no days off? No, exactly.
Hashtag no days off and, uh, you know, a If this is, you know, this is this is the time to do it like you said.
I mean, you have a lot of free time, and, you know, I always think of Ah, you know, one of my one of my favorite ah movies and one, I think it's incredibly underrated.
And Jim Carey's ah, catalog is the cable guy.
I think it got, Ah, horrible, horrible reputation among people.
But it's why I, in my opinion, one of one of his best movies.
And I love the scene towards the end where where he falls onto the satellite and cuts out all the cable.
And then all of a sudden it cuts to all these different people, just like you know, what do we do? And then there's that one guy who just, like, turns and picks up a book and just opens, just opens it up in the middle of a book and just starts laughing at the first thing he reads.
And I always laugh at that because again I tried comedy genius, but that's kind of what people are doing now, you know, like you said, they're you know, the cable went out.
So now you're turning the board games and puzzles and, you know, trying to grit your teeth through.
Ah, you know, an abundance of family time.
So, um, yeah, you know, you got it.
You got to make make the most of the situation.
And, uh, no, that's how it is.
And we do this, you know, this helps.
Of course it does.
And, uh, you know, I mean, you can only take so much social media.
I mean, let's face it, it's keeping us connected.
There's no question about it.
I saw mean the other day, and this being a holy week and whatnot.
I saw it was an image of the Last Supper and they superimposed.
They basically photoshopped out all of the apostles around Jesus, and he's sitting there alone at the table.
And all of a sudden, like above him, is about 11 boxes or 12 boxes above above him, with all the faces of all the saints that air there is like, Okay, we're ready to roll.
And it's and it's truly, really is.
I think it's really, like just, ah, metaphor of everything that's that's happening.
But you can only take so much social media.
You and I both know that we've you know, we deal with our share of, um um interesting people.
I guess that's the best way for me to put it this morning.
I'll be, Ah, I'll be be very civil, but yeah, interesting people you can deal with.
So sometimes it helps to unplug a little bit as well, even in the times where you have to stay plugged in like we are now almost 24 7 around the clock.
It is nice to be able to put that down.
You know, I have to heat my own warning.
I very, very seldom do that.
I could easily get sucked in.
I easily get distracted, Um, constantly picking that up, checking my notifications.
And if I see them, I'll get into it.
But that's one thing that we can probably try to do over the course of the next few weeks.
However long, uh, the stay at home orders will be in an effect.
So you know, ultimately it's just it.
Find your way to get through it and find your way to get through.
It is easily and, as you know, as happily as you possibly can.
I know it's a struggle for some people, but you know, we'll get through this.
We always do no, absolutely end out Look, I'm you know, social media Twitter In general, it's Ah, certain topics on Twitter in general are ah are like cigarettes for May.
You know, I don't smoke cigarettes, but, you know, I know people have tried to quit often and, you know, look, it's not a difficult thing.
And I say, I'm going to stop and then, you know, a couple weeks later, you know, one occasion brings up, you know, the right situation.
And next thing you know, I'm in a day long back and forth with a bunch of people and and again, it's It's it's it's fun and it's a nice distraction at times.
But then, you know, eventually, eventually, I realized, OK, I should have ended this a long time ago and just moved on.
And then I'm like, All right, well, now the joke's on me because now I've spent my whole day going back and forth and, you know, and to my credit, I will give myself credit.
I never, never miss an opportunity to do so.
I'm very good at multi tasking so often when you see me going back and forth.
Just imagine me typing with one hand on my phone and then at the same time typing on my keyboard doing my other work.
Because, you know, I do tend to ah, multi task fairly well, And, um, you know, out of necessity to because again, if I spend my whole day going back and forth of people on Twitter, um, I really want to be that good at my job.
So, uh, I'm trying Thio.
Let's just say serenity now.
I'm trying to ah, curb that a little bit and try toe become a more positive person on Twitter.
Ah, so you know, if you want him, you follow.
I I will hit you with some positivity.
It's at a G l e m 31.
Check it out, folks, but, uh, no, it's Twitter is a necessary evil sometimes, But it's also a great place, because again, I you and I both know a lot of people on the platform Ah, that we can probably consider, you know, good friends of ours.
And perhaps, you know, we may have never met them in person, and especially in a time like now, this is, uh, you know, that's that's kind of like the norm.
So, uh, you know, Hey, it's good and it's evil.
And, you know, you just got to take the good with the bad, but, um, you know, it's it's funny, I watch.
And we talked about this a little bit.
Ah, you know, when we were talking about the Howard Stern, uh, Tom Brady interview yesterday, and that is it's funny to see all these big time programs and big time.
Ah, video and audio programs have so many issues.
Ah, in terms of connectivity and setting everything up and all that, and it's like I'm sitting here thinking I'm like, Yeah, well, welcome to my life.
You know, we've been dealing with these issues for months, so we're ahead of the game, Really.
Oh, I understand that. Absolutely.
Hey, you know what happened? My Internet connection is cool.
All of a sudden, you're right out.
See? Right there.
I'm right on part.
Well, actually, technically, it's Cheater's wife I that using is he's renting the house, so it's technically, it's technically, it's Derek Jeter that's gonna upgrade his wife.
I So, uh, he might have the Rhode Island $3 Internet provider.
I'm not sure I don't think he spent any time appear in the Ocean State, but looks to be that way. Maybe.
Ah, maybe his wife.
I is the equivalent of his defense in his career.
It's just not good enough.
And I know our colleague and I Ah, Tyler kating.
We don't necessarily agree on a lot of things that you know that we have, ah, philosophical differences on a lot of things, but that it's something we do agree on that is Ah, you know, maybe, maybe not to the extent that he does, But I do think that his defense of ah prowess was was greatly, ah, overrated and overvalued.
However, I'm not taking away anything from him, you know, he's a, you know, getting the leader and all that stuff.
But, you know, if you're if you're going to sit here and say, compare him to Tom Brady, I'll sit there and fight, just so just be prepared.
We do actually have some NFL news.
I mean, you know, it doesn't happen often these days we do.
We do actually have some NFL news and, ah, you know, wide receiver that's been passed around more than well, you know, I had a family show.
I'm not gonna make any sort of raunchy joke, but Brandin cooks is once again on the move.
He's heading to Houston in Houston.
Bill O'Brien gives up a second round pick.
Um, for Brandon cooks to hopefully, ah, mitigate the loss of DeAndre Hopkins.
And, ah, you know, look, I I mean, I get the jokes.
It's like, Okay, you're replacing DeAndre Hawkins with Brandon cooks, and you're gonna have, like, no draft picks for the next, however many years.
Um, but you know, hey, look, it's it's it's ah, it's a good move for them.
I think we the two of us, are both fans of Brandin cooks, and I think he's a good receiver.
He's only 26 he's already been traded what, three times, um, in his career.
So it's, you know, it's a guy.
I guess it's a good mute move for Houston.
It's good, you know.
I'm sure John Watson is happier now that he you know Randall Cobb and willful or aren't his just top two receivers? Um, but for him, for l.
A. I mean this is.
I mean, I I remember when when this whole the plan of their started to come together and, you know, formulate.
And I was sitting there saying like, this is this is Ah, this is ah, balloon being inflated to the maximum capacity.
And this is not going to last long.
And, you know, my whole idea and what I was trying to think from their perspective was like, Okay, I get it.
You have two teams that are moving into the same stadium in Los Angeles.
You have the Rams, you have the Chargers.
Ah, one of them has to grab a stranglehold of the reef.
The grams already had the advantage just because they had already been there.
And they're kind of the more marketable team as opposed to the Chargers.
But there was still a competition.
So what the Rams did, was they? When they went all in, they shelled out ridiculous contracts.
Jared Goff got an outrageous amount of guaranteed money.
Um, you started paying guys.
Ah, you know Aaron Donald.
And then all of a sudden, it's like you make the rent of Super Bowl and then you lose and that was it.
And Now you're watching this team.
Just, uh I mean, they have I I can't remember the exact number, but something like 38 to $40 million in dead cat money, which you know, is just That's absurd.
That's like I mean, like the patriots and their worst situation right now at about 25.
And that's, you know, a bulk of that is Tom Braise, you know, signing bonus, or at least half of that.
So you know that this I mean, I again if I was a Rams fan, I, you know would not be that encouraged.
Uh, you know, for for what's to come in the next couple years, Because again, it's not like, you know, Jared Goff is, you know, once in a lifetime quarterback, I mean, at the end of the day, I mean, he could end up just being a guy and still make this absurd amount of money.
And then, in addition, you have all these cap issues that ah clearly are.
You know the reason why you had to get rid of Todd Girl.
You had to get rid of Brandon cooks.
You know what I mean? And now what's funny is Jalen Ramsey, who *****ed and moaned to get himself out of Jacksonville is now saddled and perhaps a worse situation.
Really, if you think about it like Jacksonville was kind in a similar situation a couple years ago and they were forced to have to make some moves to shed salary and kind of retool their, um But the Rams, maybe in a worse situation right now, Actually, I think they are when you take a look at their future and you take a look at how cap strapped they're going to be for the remaining future.
Look, they had to let go.
And you're talking about a guy like Todd Gurley.
Obviously, he's had his injury history, so Rams fans are naturally gonna come back with.
Well, well, he was damaged goods anyway.
They had to get rid of him.
He wasn't gonna be any good.
So Well, you know, I don't really miss him.
Well, you are gonna miss him on the field.
You are gonna miss his production.
You saw what that offense looked like.
We started to see that when girlie was very limited in terms of what he could do.
And he played in the Super Bowl against the Patriots in Super Bowl 53.
That's not an offense that is so high powered and so high flying that they could withstand the loss of someone like Todd Gurley.
Now you're equating in with Brandon cooks.
And by the way, I mean talk about Brandon cooks being, you know, pretty much on the fortunate side of playing with some of the best quarterbacks of his generation.
At the age of 26 he's already played with Drew Brees.
You make the you know, Scott that Jared Goff.
I mean, he's he's a better quarterback than the most in the league.
If you if you think about it, he's he's got upside.
I'm not gonna sit there and say that he's an All Pro or that he deserves to be being the top echelon.
But he's serviceable, and now he's gonna get the chance to play alongside to Shawn wants and all.
By the age of 26 that's pretty amazing.
You're looking about two guys without question on one guy.
If he continues on the same tradition trajectory that he's playing on, you're talking about three future Hall of Famers right there so I mean, that's that's pretty amazing.
The only thing that concerns me with Cook's obviously is his health, other concussions that he's had and the difficulties that he's had recovering from them.
You have to wonder if that's going to take its toll, and that's something that is a big concern of mine.
We talked about this earlier on this year about Brandon cooks and his ability to fit into an offense and his ability to stay helping and stay on the field, and there was a time where we thought he actually might consider hanging it up.
And at age 26 that's almost inconceivable.
But when you take a look at the amount of injuries and things that he's had to overcome, it is difficult.
Hopefully, you'll find the protection that he needs, the success that he needs because ultimately I think there is a ah, very good young player there that still has a lot to give to the football field.
You just hope that he's gonna have the health and the other longevity to be able to do it.
But to get back to your original question, who is in a worse situation? The Jaguars are the Rams.
I'd probably say the Rams right now, because I think the Jaguars have a little more upside.
And I'm a little higher on Gardner Menchu than I am on Jared Goff and that a couple of years ago, that would have been inconceivable.
But I think we may have seen the peak of Jared golf.
Um, and if that's the case, then you're talking about a team that's that's ascending a little bit in Jacksonville.
You have to wonder how long it's gonna be before Ramsey starts to chirp about Los Angeles.
You know, we saw him do it last year.
It's definitely not above his character.
So, uh, this this may be interesting.
The only difference is I don't think there's gonna be a lot of takers this time around, and I think it's gonna be a little tougher to him.
Toe wiggle his way out.
Not impossible, folks.
I mean, it can be done, and we've seen it done.
But ultimately, I think it's going to be difficult for himto wiggle his way out of that situation.
It's a shame for, ah, for the Rams because, you know, you get the impression that they were on to something.
They still have the most dynamic player on defense in Aaron. Donald.
So I mean, this is not a team that's just going to roll over.
They were close to clinching a playoff spot this year.
I don't want to make it seem like they're just an also ran.
But if you're talking long term down the line, they don't make things happen soon and find a way to fix this mess.
It could be ugly in Los Angeles for a least a few years before they can rebuild again.
Yeah, and look, I mean, fortunately for them, they're they're competing with the Chargers who aren't.
You know, Look, I I it remains to be seen what trajectory Tre directory the Chargers air going into.
I struggled with that 12 minutes early.
Yeah, I was going to say, You know what? I'll blame that one on the lack of copy and And the fact that might my ah, initial energy is is winding down, but yeah, I mean, it remains to be seen.
What? You know what's gonna happen with them, You know, uh, is Tyrod Taylor the guy? Are they gonna go after another quarterback? Are they gonna draft someone, you know, Who knows? You know, I think we can make it better.
Who did? I'm trying to hold back to you on here, but I I think we'll find out, You know, as we get into the season or closer to the season, more so what the charges could be.
So I don't want to sit there and bury them yet, but, um, you know, again, this is a process that we're gonna have to feel out and see if we can, you know? See, you know, just see which team is in a better shape, but you know, my you know, at least we saw the Rams.
They're they're competing against, Ah, team that, you know, as you know, is ah kind of ah kind of nomad.
Right now, you know, they're kind of floating around, and Ah, uh, excuse me.
Well, I apologize.
Um, I'm boring myself.
Apparently, Uh, no, it's just it's pure exhaustion right now, but, um, see, the thing is why I didn't stay up and play video games all night because I would have fallen asleep at the keyboard.
I mean, I feel like I could fall asleep right now if I just put my head down.
So, you know, Imagine if I actually stayed up all night to play this game.
I just I just couldn't do it.
Like I said, I'm not 21 anymore, but, uh oh, yeah.
We'll find out who's in a better, um, you know, who's in a better spot? Moving forward, I guess a little bit later, because again.
And I I think there is some potential there for the chargers.
Um, I just don't I just don't know what they're going to be yet, but ah.
Uh, excuse me now, I can't.
I can't I can't stop myself.
I apologize, folks.
Um, we had a pretty interesting tweet yesterday, Mike.
And I want to revisit it cause I didn't respond to it yet.
Yeah, and I'm actually pulling it up specifically right now, so I don't I don't screw it up, but ah, you know, all the craze now on social media is you have to pick things.
We like to pick things.
Not not not knows, not knows, but but your friends and you could pick your nose.
But you can't pick your friend's nose.
That's words of wisdom, my friend.
It's actually gonna be embedded on your ah business card when it comes, but, uh, that's right.
You know, you tweeted out.
Um, you know, you have to pick three movies out of nine and again keeping with the the the mobster.
It was incredibly difficult, incredibly difficult to do these type of things.
So I'm gonna give you my answers right now, because I'm I'm looking at it.
Uh, look at this.
Well, that ABC radio, like, exclusive already.
And, uh, look, I mean, this is this is I mean, this was a lot harder than I thought.
Um, godfather, too.
I mean, I you have to write.
I mean, that that's almost like a given.
That's like your easy one where it's like, OK, yeah, of course that's gonna be on there, So Right.
Um, I obviously I could have put the 1st 1 on there as well, but I I decided to go a personal favorite of mine. Goodfellas.
I love that movie.
It's one of my favorite.
And then ah, more recent one, the departed because again, and has a lot of ah ah, tais, obviously to Boston and everything like that, and I get it.
I think it's a fantastic movie.
Ah, and again that there's so much I mean, yet Scarface on here.
Let's see a Bronx tale.
I mean, Donnie Brasco.
I mean, come on.
You know, like like I mean, I feel like I said right now I'm even thinking about you know, my selection Be like, Are you kidding me? Are you really thinking about leaving these these ones out? But ah, no, you know what? I'm sticking to it.
That that top third corner of your image, that that's what I'm going with.
So godfather, too.
Goodfellas and ah, the departed.
Very, uh, big favorites of mine.
Well, you're in some pretty good company, my friend, because the web masters at locked on patriots happen to agree with you.
They chose the Godfather, Part two.
They chose Goodfellas and they chose the Departed for the Boston Connection.
And that sweet was out there.
I saw that last night, and I thought that was pretty funny.
And that made me chuckle on that one.
And it was also a **** to me because they know in what high regard.
I hold the original godfather.
But, um, no, in all, in all actuality, I think this is a tougher choice than a lot of people are making it out to be.
And the one thing that I found a little bit funny is some of the feedback that I've been getting and saying, Oh, this is such an easy choice is such an easy choice.
Oh, it is Godfather one and two in Goodfellas.
Well, that leads me to believe that you haven't seen the other six movies on that because that is not as easy as people want.
Thio, you know, want to believe that I mentioned Bronx Tale Donnie Brasco Mean Streets is on that list is well, which the phenomenal movie, you know, one of the early Ah, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel collaborations.
That was just amazing.
Uh, absent from the list.
And Murph and I tried Thio narrow this down to about nine that we could do.
I mean, the Irishman wasn't on the looming.
At least we didn't put that on their godfather.
Three wasn't on the list.
I know that excites a lot of people because it's a lot of hate for that movie.
But say what you will.
It's still a part of that trilogy, so toe leave some of these off.
Once upon a time in America, I got a D a.
M last night saying, How could you leave that off the list so that that's the best one out of all of them? And it is It's tough because when you start getting into it, you realize just how many great movies there are in this genre.
For those of you that enjoy this sort of thing.
My good friend Thomas Murphy and I do a semi weekly, every usually every couple of weeks.
We'll hit the microphone and talk about the mob movie genre on the shape of the mob pod, which is a labor of love for for the two of us.
We really enjoyed doing that show, and it's a lot of fun, and we break down a lot of these mob movies we chronicled.
I think most of them on the list.
We haven't done The Godfather part two yet because this fine gentleman will be our special guests.
When we finally chronicle The Godfather part to his love for that movie will, but we'll shine through and we haven't done mean streets yet, but we have to un Brasco.
We have done other departed we have done Goodfellas.
Casino is on that list is well, we haven't done that one.
So there are still a lot of movies that we have to ah, break down.
So, yeah, I mean, these things you pick three, you can only have three.
It's it's fun because it kind of gets you, too.
Really? Delve into some of these tough choice is the one that really, really tugged at me the other day was, ah, list of nine wrestlers and Oh, yeah, I tell you, whoever compiled that I sent this thio off line and the two of us were back and forth a little bit and I said, the legit This is probably the toughest choice that I've had to make.
Really? You know, let's let's make that I'm actually gonna pull it up.
So I have it in front of me.
You Ah, I believe you sent it to me in a text.
Correct? Because I want to make sure that I have it up here, so I'm gonna I'm gonna try to pull this up because again, that was difficult.
And I don't think I actually ever came up with an answer because I looked at it and I was just, like, what? What do I do? You know, like, how do I How do I do this? So you know what? I'm trying to pull it up if you can find it.
Ah, and send it to me, and I will certainly.
Oh, wait. No, no. Here it is.
Because this is this is great.
And I'm glad I didn't answer right away because, you know, again, this is it.
This is incredibly difficult one.
So you have nine selections.
99999 Stone Cold.
Hulk Hogan, Triple H Undertaker, My tool man.
Randy Sa***e, The man.
Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels.
And, of course, Bret the Hitman Hart.
So you only have to pick three.
Now, what are we picking? 34? I don't know.
I mean again, it's beyond beyond just the concept of picking three.
There's really nothing deep about this.
It's just Hey, you know, if somehow you had to only pick three and the other six just wouldn't exist.
That that's that's what it would mean.
So, um, even sitting here right now, I can tell you one off the bat, Shawn Michaels.
I would keep it.
And getting that for me is I've expressed many times before He was one of my, if not my favorite wrestler growing up from from when he was with the Rockers and Marty Geneti before Marty Geneti took the cowardly way out and jumped through the window and jumping through the window.
Hey, I will have God rest God rest, the eternal soul of Bobby Hin and just unbelievable on the mic to May I mean, I I love Jerry the King Lawler.
But there was no one with equipment within Bodine, and he was ****ing nominal.
Anybody that has time, go back, listen to some of the commentary on those eighties and early nineties, You know, either ah, Saturday morning specials or pay per views.
He was he was phenomenal.
He was just the best.
Well, and and again, you you bring up a great I mean, Jerry Lawler, obviously.
You know, back in the day, him and Jim bro, I mean, they were great combination.
And one of the reasons why it was so fun to watch.
You know, the, you know, you know, late nineties early 2000 wrestling was, you know, the combination of those two.
You know, there were times throughout that time where, you know, one or the other was was in a contract dispute and they wouldn't be there.
But they made such a great um, you know, that's the thing about wrestling and something that we're kind of learning now, especially as events go on without fans and everything like that.
Um, of course, a lot of it's about in ring entertainment, but like, you know, the announcers and the crowd Is Justus big a part of the show, as as the actual wrestlers and the matches themselves? Because again, this isn't you know, everyone knows like wrestling is is scripted, but that the fan element and then the commentary element really adds, you know, that little bit of extra to it.
And when you have a good combination, like again Jerry Lawler and and Jim Ross, I think we're fantastic.
You know, you get a great um, you know, you get a great feel of the of the wrestling, and it's entertaining.
But again, Bobby the brain again.
And he was I mean, the goat, right? I mean, e, was there really anyone better? Ah, ringside commentary than then Bobby, the brain heated.
I can't say that there is.
And there've been some great and you mentioned.
I mean, King and J.
R were so iconic to that time period.
You cannot think of the attitude arrow without thinking of, you know, Jerry Lawler, screaming puppies at the top of your long, interesting giggling like a buffoon or J R going by God.
Hey, don't call that streak of income on it that was just so iconic for its era.
But then you think about the golden era of W. W. E.
And the original air of WWF.
You know, back in the day when it was the federation and its gorilla, Monsoon and Bobby, even if you think of those those commentaries and he was, he was he was phenomenal.
He and it was just he was amazing.
I remember Ric Flair gave an interview one time, and he said there were two guys.
He says that he says I'm pretty good on the Mikey says, and I conspire, he says.
But there were two guys I will not tangle with.
One of them is Roddy Piper, and the other is ER and the other is Bobby Heenan.
He's is because if you try to match wits and you try to match them for a war of words, he says, you are going to lose every single time.
And that's how Keenan was.
He was just He was so quick had such a razor sharp wit.
Um, and that's why they call him the Brain.
I mean, they call them that for a reason.
He was just He was.
He was phenomenal.
His comedic timing could not have been better and was just perfect for the genre that he was a part of it.
I can't imagine those eighties wrestlers without him giving, you know, like a lighthearted feel to some of these heels and making them appealing and even into some point, you know, kind of making you root for them a little bit.
Yeah, And look, and then I can pinpoint again.
We go back to what spurred this topic being that line that he gave obviously during the famous ah ah, moment where Sean Michael Sumardi Geneti through the ah, through the barber shop window which obviously spurred the singles career Shawn Michaels and then going into his whole, you know, the Hall of Fame career, all that stuff.
But that line just always sticks to me.
And I laugh every single time I hear it like, this isn't just a chuckle.
This is I just I just can't get enough of it.
I'll sit back and listen to it over and over again because it's just so good and so so well, time.
So, um, getting back to the topic at hand, though, um, three wrestlers, So s so here I am.
I'm like, OK, so Sean Michaels and then I even know right now I'm sitting here looking at it.
I'm like, What? Who do I pick? Like, you know, I might I have to say, See, I feel like I could only pick one of the other between the rock and stone cold, You know what I mean? And, uh, kind of Yeah.
So I'm kind of going back and forth with that, So I'm like, Okay, well, stone cold, obviously.
I mean, you, can't you? You know, he obviously had has provided so many different moments.
And it's, you know, I don't think anyone has been Maur Ah, just off.
You know, again, the glass hits and you know you know what's happening. He comes.
Sound stuns everyone.
He's just, you know, the rattlesnake, all that stuff.
You know, Stone cold.
Steve Austin it was it was great, but like I was always the fan of the Rock.
And perhaps this is a little bit more now, because again, it's, you know, I think I think the rock is one of the better people in this world in terms of, you know, celebrities and all that stuff in terms of doing things for others and just being a generally clueless person.
And so I think that also really weighs on my decision.
So I would choose the rock because again, on top of that, his the bill and we talk about ability on the mike.
Um, that's a guy who knew how to work.
The mike knew how to work.
The crowd knew howto just, you know, playoff every single nuance of either his his competitor or the audience.
And I think that was That's the big factor to me.
So now the biggest thing comes where you know, which one of these, you know, stars of the eighties and early nineties Do I go with Is it Hulk Hogan is a Ric Flair Or is it Randy Macho Man Sa***e And no disrespect to triple age stone cold that I loved the undertaker.
I just I personally I probably gotta go macho man, and and again, that's that's that's, you know, that's ah, that's a personal preference of mine.
But again, I was always a fan of his.
I was always really into his whole shtick.
And, ah, you know, I always kind of wanted to sway from the norm, which was Everyone loved whole Cogan and all that stuff, so I got much.
Oh, man, I got Shawn Michaels and I got the rock.
So what say you, my friend? Yeah.
I think you know this.
This is a much, much tougher decision than you could possibly imagine.
Uh, I I did go with Michael's in my top three, and I was gonna surprise you when I say this in terms of, like, favorites of mine, I don't know if I put Michael's in my top three favorites of those, but I choose him as you gotta pick three.
Because if you're talking entering entertainment, you're talking about a performer.
You're talking about a guy that could do it all on the microphone in the ring.
I hard pressure to find a guy that could do it as well.
As Shawn Michaels did it.
I don't think there is one.
He really to me.
The reason why even give him the nod over Flare is because of his in ring athleticism.
Which flare was a hard worker, one of the hardest workers I've ever seen, people that have worked with him said that from start to finish, But Michael's work just as hard and had the athleticism to boot.
So definitely you gotta put Shawn Michaels in that condo in category, and you have to to select him.
I did go with The Hulk Hogan on.
The reason why I went with Hulk Hogan is because you look at that body of work you look at from start to finish the advent of W.
E to his relevance.
Even in the present day, there are still people that when you mentioned Hulk Hogan, they know exactly who it is.
They know exactly who you're talking about.
He's there and because he's there, it's an indelible part of of wrestling.
And in my opinion, that's why I give him the nod.
This last one was so so difficult for me.
This was so painful for me to d'oh that I had to choose someone other than Ric Flair and Bret Harte to me are two of my favorite wrestlers of all time.
I just I just love the body of work on both of them.
But I, uh, again the attitude era, I think you needed to have a representative from each of the errors.
So I looked at, um I looked at Michael, sort of Is that bridge from the new jet from the old generation to the new generation? Yes, he went into the attitude era, but Michael started to make his bones during that, like new generation W W.
We kind of used him as a transitional piece.
Um, I went with stone cold, Steve Austin and, um you know the rock.
As much as I absolutely love the rock and I do, I think that he was in a lot of ways.
I think there were some superior aspects that he had to Austin's game.
But I look at the rock.
It's someone that would have made it.
I believe the Rock would have made it, even if it wasn't for W. W. E.
I think he had that electrifying type personality that he could have been a celebrity independent of that.
And I think you're seeing that Austin is so indelible to the ring, to the wrestling ring and to me, that's why you take a look at the attitude that kiss my ass the you know, Austin 3 16 the whole admin of that attitude era.
To me, it was cultivated around a guy like stone cold Steve Austin.
So I went with more iconic rather than you know, the rather than the personal feel to it.
I think you're three are amazing.
If if those are the three that you chose to believe me, I think you have a great great ah, you know W w E universe for many years to come.
But that ultimately was was mine, not necessarily my favorites, I think, to be totally honest with you, I think if you're talking my three favorites, it might look drastically different then the three that I chose.
But those are the three that I would keep in terms of legacy and in terms of what they're able to dio.
But it was so hard for me not to include flare in that list well, and you talk about Austin and, like, you know, we talked about Tom and Bill Bell Jackie being, you know, the perfect timing for them to come together.
Well, you know, Austin and McMahon, that was kind of the perfect timing for them as well.
Could you think about where wrestling was going, where he can't You know who he was at that time and who Vince was at that time to? You know, he's obviously, you know, he's not a 70 something year old man like he is now.
He was still a young, you know, relatively young man who was able to really mix it up in the ring with competitors if need be in and Aust Austin was the perfect, you know, sparring partner there and and again, the timing of it couldn't have happened any better, and I think that you know, that's again.
I'm sitting here thinking, Oh, man, I should have probably picked Austin then maybe actually, probably picked Hulk and and that's why it's fun.
And that's why these conversations, ah, are happening a lot on Twitter.
We've been doing a mad are full press coverage accounts.
