Joining me on the show today is David Harrison.
00:02:16
He is a writer for SP nations, but Nation and David tell him a little bit about because I know we have buck fans that actually listen to the show.
00:02:26
Tell him a little bit about, um, your podcast with James.
00:02:31
Oh yeah, James Arco, another writer over at Buck's nation dot com, part of SB Nation.
00:02:35
We host the locked on Bucks podcast, which is part of the locked on podcast network.
00:02:40
Basically, I gotta show for every team, every all 32 NFL teams.
00:02:43
There's a bunch of collegiate team shows out there.
00:02:46
A general NFL, too.
00:02:48
Draft related shows with the guys.
00:02:49
The draft network is is kind of a partner with the With the network.
00:02:52
They're the podcast network.
00:02:54
They have the draft dude show in the locked on NFL draft, hosted by scouts from the draft network themselves.
00:03:01
Oh, yeah, we got a lot of good stuff, a little bit of content for pretty much everybody and what we actually have dropping.
00:03:07
On Friday, we have the 1st 6 pics of our network wide mock draft.
00:03:12
We spent about a week all every NFL team hosts sat down, and we all did a mock draft.
00:03:17
There's some trades or some surprise picks.
00:03:19
You're doing this from our standpoint, trying to pretend to be Jason lighter, John Elway or anybody but Cody work over there covering the Broncos for a lot of time podcast network was part of that, don't you? Yeah.
00:03:31
Yeah, we did all that stuff.
00:03:32
I was. It gives a good time.
00:03:34
Um, very, very interesting.
00:03:35
I highly recommend if you're a fan of the NFL in general, you check that out.
00:03:38
And if you're a fan of your team, Ah, your respective host will tell you what day your your episode is dropping on their show.
00:03:44
And I just a lot of good stuff going on a lot of good guys and have a good chance toe have, ah, network of experts on every single team.
00:03:51
Yeah, I think I got an email from them in regards to, um uh, Pittsburgh.
00:03:57
I don't know for something a while back, I might be I might be mistaken.
00:04:00
It might have been another, Uh, it might have been another website similar to your guys, but yeah, that sounds really cool, man.
00:04:07
Actually like to go go and check that out for sure. Okay.
00:04:11
So, you know, we're talking about, you know, Tom Brady and we're talking about Oh, you know, about expectations and a lot of other things.
00:04:19
But I saw this yesterday, and I found a kind of amusing and I wanted to get your take on it because I get what he's saying.
00:04:26
But I would still feel and I don't think I would feel is honored as Jamie's does.
00:04:33
Gemma Swenson is saying that he was honored to be replaced by Tom Brady.
00:04:37
Now he was asked by Fox News about the buck signing Tom Brady to be the team starter on what once since future looks like as a free agent.
00:04:48
His quote was, Well, one thing you can learn about me is my faith.
00:04:53
I have tremendous faith in my Lord, and one thing about Tom Brady is it's understood that he's the goat for you to get replaced by Tom Brady in a city that you love so much.
00:05:06
I guess that's kudos to me now it almost sounds a little weird.
00:05:14
In my opinion, I think that I kind of understand that I conned him and grasping that.
00:05:21
Hey, if I'm gonna be replaced by anybody, at least I'm being replaced by you know, the greatest player.
00:05:26
However, I would having faith and being a Christian man, and whatever the case may be, I would still be a little butt hurt like yeah, when I got Tom Brady like I threw 5000 yards, less like What's what's going on? What's your take on Jamison's comment about being flattered by being replaced by Tom Brady? I mean, if there's one thing that everybody should understand about James is that he's he's a genuine person, you know? Ah, there's been a lot of things in his history.
00:05:58
So what? He also is the very intelligent person and what he's putting out there and how he's portraying himself and how he's representing you know his name, his brand as well.
00:06:07
I mean, you know, in the NFL, quarterbacks or brands, he's got a foundation.
00:06:10
He's got a lot of good things that he does in the community down there in Tampa and in back in Alabama, back at home, you know, So he's a genuine person, and when he says he believes in his faith and kind of everything happens for a reason and all that stuff and he just he knows that he's gonna go to the situation that he's supposed to go into that so it's all really mean.
00:06:27
He believes that 100% he's out there working, get ready for whatever opportunity that is going to be.
00:06:33
And when the time comes you, he feels like he'll be prepared to take advantage of whatever chance he gets with whichever t a SZ faras Tom Brady stuff is concerned.
00:06:41
I think if you were to talk to James, Winston can delete an honest opinion.
00:06:44
He would still tell you that he feels like he's the best chance Tampa has toe win moving forward.
00:06:50
But I think that if you're gonna be a professional quarterback, you have to have that feeling, you know, and I don't want the words and James his mouth.
00:06:55
I just I just get that feeling from, you know, the interactions that I've had around him and with him.
00:07:00
But he's not wrong.
00:07:01
I mean, it's Tom Brady.
00:07:02
It's the greatest of all time, you know? Um, I don't know.
00:07:05
It's like if you're a small forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, they let you bounce the free agency to bring in LeBron.
00:07:09
I mean, can you really be upset? You You're not happy that the team didn't want to bring you back, But you know, I mean, there's worse things that can happen, like them being replaced by the best of all time, but, um right, but do you really want to be like, because right now, I don't know.
00:07:23
Maybe you can tell me this.
00:07:24
Do they have intentions of retaining Jamis or, you know, I mean, is he gonna be Tom's back up or are they trying to get rid of him to free up cap space? I mean, I would I would say that you can never say never, right? I mean, you know, like you said 12 months ago, I never would have said Tom Brady would have been a buck.
00:07:41
And everyone said DeAndre Hopkins would've gotten traded for a second round draft pick.
00:07:45
Um, S O.
00:07:47
S, I would say, never say never.
00:07:48
But the Buccaneers did put out kind of a thank you farewell message to Jamie's.
00:07:53
Jamie's did put out a farewell to the city of Tampa, the fans and the Buccaneers themselves.
00:07:57
So I think that kind of puts the squash on all that kind of stuff.
00:08:01
But, I mean, you never know especially, you know, post draft.
00:08:04
If an NFL team goes into the draft looking at quarterbacks, they don't get one, but they still don't call James for whatever reason.
00:08:10
I know a lot of people are scared about the turnovers and everything.
00:08:13
You know, if he doesn't get any phone calls and the Buccaneers come calling and offer him, you know Ah ah, Backup contract, Randi, but probably Ah ah, high end, You know, $67 million per year. Backup contract.
00:08:24
Uh, I mean, it's a situation that we've discussed on the show.
00:08:28
We've gotten that question from Buccaneers fans themselves about the idea of Jamie's backing up.
00:08:32
Tom, It would be an unprecedented situation.
00:08:36
But I think, you know, ah, myself being at the end of a career, I can look back and I can I can.
00:08:42
I want to put myself in position where 26 year old Jamie's probably not gonna be very happy with that cir***stance, But 36 year old Jamis actually would probably look back on that as a good, good moving and a good way to set himself forward.
00:08:55
So it's kind of just ah, perspective, they I don't think it's gonna happen.
00:08:58
I think he ends up somewhere else.
00:09:00
But, you know, I would never say never.
00:09:02
Now, if you know the reports to Amanda Tampa was, that was Tom Brady, Teddy Bridgewater and then James.
00:09:07
So James was never just out of the cards, necessarily.
00:09:09
It was just There were two guys that the Bucks were looking at above.
00:09:13
James, you know, in their pecking order as it as it were.
00:09:16
If Tom goes to Los Angeles or Tennessee or one of those other places, Um, and they bring in Teddy Bridgewater, I'm not sure his reaction is quite the same, right.
00:09:26
But again, Jamie's is very well versed in how he presents himself to the public.
00:09:31
And I don't think he would have said anything to inflammatory if the if the roles were reversed.
00:09:35
And it was, Hey, James, how do you feel about being replaced by Teddy Bridgewater? But I don't think we would have gotten kind of the answer that, you know, people kind of probably thought was, Is the real answer behind the scenes.
00:09:45
Yeah.
00:09:46
Yeah, I would agree with you on that.
00:09:47
Now, here's something you can help.
00:09:49
You know, May maybe you've heard some things, and I'm a big Steeler fan.
00:09:53
I've been a Steeler fan since 1978 since I was a little little boy.
00:09:59
Um, I followed them and have covered a lot of other NFL teams along the way.
00:10:06
And, you know, it's just it's hard when you take a team that you have loved since you were a kid, and you try to think of things that would make this beneficial for your team and also look at it from, you know, not bias standpoint.
00:10:20
And, you know, a lot of rumors have circulated that, you know, it would be, you know, behoove Kevin Colbert and and Mike Tomlin to look at Jamis Winston as maybe not.
00:10:33
Maybe not an heir apparent, but definitely a 12 year option for James to come in and be Ben Roethlisberger's back up.
00:10:42
My only concern with that and and I and a lot of my fellow stealer brethren are not fans of that.
00:10:49
They don't want Jamis there, like now he throws too many interceptions.
00:10:53
Let me explain something to those people that have said that I looked at Jamieson's body of work.
00:10:59
I've been watching this guy since his rookie year, and I've always been a fan.
00:11:03
I was more of a friend of his that Marcus Mariota only because I thought James was the right now guy and I might have been a little wrong about that.
00:11:11
Um, however, this is a guy that threw 5000 flipping yards.
00:11:17
Granted, it was 30 touchdowns, 33 picks.
00:11:20
I get that, but at some point it's almost like talking to a child.
00:11:24
Sometimes you just gotta put a kid in time out for a minute.
00:11:26
He keeps doing the wrong thing.
00:11:28
You tell him to do this.
00:11:29
He does that.
00:11:30
He's not doing it on purpose.
00:11:31
He's just not getting it.
00:11:33
So he just needs a minute to sit down.
00:11:36
I think that's your Jamis Winston needs.
00:11:38
I think James needs a year, too.
00:11:41
Sit behind somebody remember what it's like to be that guy and be a student of the game.
00:11:48
I know he's at a point this career where he probably doesn't want to hear that.
00:11:51
But sometimes things you don't want to hear are good for you, whether you believe they are not.
00:11:57
I think if James goes somewhere as a backup for a year, I I wouldn't make.
00:12:03
I don't think Jameis Winston needs to go somewhere where he's gonna be a consummate backup and never be able to get a chance to get out of that role because he's too talented.
00:12:13
But I think in a role behind Ben Rob this burger, where as a Steeler fan, I'll tell you, he's probably not gonna make it past this year if he even makes it through a full season.
00:12:24
Jamis Winston, in my opinion, if he humbles himself, sits behind somebody like Ben Routes.
00:12:29
Burger, with two Super Bowl rings, says, You know what? This is a good fit for me and learns from it and becomes a better quarterback for What are your thoughts on? Jamie's going to Pittsburgh.
00:12:43
I love, actually, that I had the idea of James wants to go in Pittsburgh.
00:12:46
That's That's one of the first place I brought up on our show with with the potential where James might land and just the thought of Jamie's backing up a guy like Ben Roethlisberger playing for a coach like Mike Tomlin for a franchise like the Steelers.
00:12:57
I mean, you know, I'm a football fan before I'm a fan of any specific team.
00:13:01
You know how I've always been.
00:13:02
And the Steelers are a franchise that I've been a fan of for a long time, you know, just from the peripheral.
00:13:08
Bruce Arians won a Super Bowl.
00:13:09
They remember Steelers and Cardinals, still one of my favorite Super Bowls ever that I've ever seen.
00:13:15
And I remember that game.
00:13:16
I really wanted Kurt Warner to get you another ring.
00:13:19
I really like the way they want to play and going into kind of the critical moments.
00:13:23
I remember saying so the guys I was watching game with, I said, Listen, either Kurt Warner needs to win this game or Santonio Holmes needs to catch the game.
00:13:30
Winning touchdown and manage.
00:13:32
It didn't happen.
00:13:33
Uh, I'm a born and bred Buckeye fan, by the way.
00:13:35
Um, sure so So, yeah.
00:13:38
I mean, the Steelers are amazing fit, And I think, you know, you look at the team, you look at guys like Juju Smith, Schuester, You look at Deante Johnson, who I think the Buccaneers.
00:13:46
I think we're really high on.
00:13:47
Last year I was really high on last year.
00:13:49
It's a franchise that's kind of got that defense of history, and I think they're gonna try to get back to that, and they're gonna work towards getting back to that, be having that defensive mentality, and that's kind of what you need with a quarterback like James Winston and you know, a lot of boxes.
00:14:01
I think a lot of fan base is kind of do the same.
00:14:03
But you know, they point to former Bucks who went elsewhere and had success and keep the lead is one that comes up a lot and how you know he left the Buccaneers and then went to, you know, among other places, the Broncos and didn't have all the problems within the franchise, in the streets and in public and off the field that that he did with Tampa.
00:14:20
And when I try to explain to those people who kind of say, Well, the Bucks gave up on him too quick and I say, you know what the the Bucks giving up on him might be why he didn't have those problems going in the future.
00:14:29
And again, the Buckeye can actually look.
00:14:31
Cris Carter.
00:14:32
He's all yours.
00:14:33
Went on record, saying the best thing never happened.
00:14:34
Him was the eagle saying, we're done with you and tying it all back to Tom Brady, right? This is this is a guy and you talk about empathy, right? This is a guy who literally basically felt like his NFL career was over before it ever got started.
00:14:48
Look at the tape and the interviews he's done about his draft experience of this day.
00:14:52
He still gets choked up about it because he thought his dream of being an NFL quarterback was just never gonna happen.
00:14:57
S so this is a guy who lost his career before he ever even had one, so he knows what that feels like.
00:15:02
So when he comes into this game, he comes into it from that standpoint that experiences on his his shoulders.
00:15:07
Jamis has now lost his career as a Buccaneers quarterback.
00:15:12
And if all the reports are to be to be believed, and there's not a lot of teams calling his agents, calling him looking for workouts information, he's, you know, it's natural human process.
00:15:22
He's gonna be in the position where he's at home, you know, talking with his wife, saying, Well, what's the next step? If this is it, I mean, if I am, I really lose my career.
00:15:29
If this is over, you know that does something to a person, and it makes you a little bit wiser.
00:15:35
I think you know in the moment.
00:15:36
Obviously, it's not a fun experience to go through, but I think it makes you wiser.
00:15:39
So if post draft, because I really don't think James is getting signed anywhere until May.
00:15:44
Ah, if Post draft, the Steelers come calling and you know the report is he was asking for 30 million from the bucks that he has to take six or seven from the Steelers.
00:15:53
That's gonna be a humbling experience.
00:15:54
Yeah, it's gonna be, But it's gonna be a teaching experience, and I think that James comes out the other side of it smarter.
00:16:00
And so the potential for him, you know, maybe he come, he becomes one of the next great Steelers quarterbacks and bucks fans.
00:16:06
Look back on and say, See you.
00:16:07
We could have had this guy for 15 years, Ryan.
00:16:11
Reality.
00:16:12
It was losing that buck's job and going through this a swing now that leads him to that place.
00:16:16
Sure.
00:16:17
And I think that's kind of what James talks about with this faith and everything.
00:16:19
Um, but, you know, human nature, faith or not, human nature.
00:16:23
If you're James Winston sent home right now, you're worried about your future? Absolutely.
00:16:27
He's David Harrison from SP Nations buck nation bucks nation dot com Um, okay, so before I let you go, we definitely have to talk about these unions.
00:16:37
And the reason I have to bring this up is my grandmother lived in Florida and, you know, Tampa, but, uh new Port Richey, Florida Tarpon Springs area.
00:16:47
And when I used to go down there for summers, you know, this just goes to show you how old I am.
00:16:52
The you know, the Creamsicle uniforms were big.
00:16:56
People in that area were still big, big buck fans.
00:17:00
Now, when the USFL started, he had the Tampa Bay Bandits bandit ball kind of crushed Buccaneer ball for some reason.
00:17:09
Nevertheless, that uniform I honestly thought that they were going to try and do a play on it, like bring more of the cream sickle upfront rather than kind of take uniform from you know, 97 2013 where it was just kind of like those regular varsity numbers you see in high school.
00:17:34
I mean, I I still think it's better than what you guys had those weird numbers with the angles and everything.
00:17:41
I was so over that, but as far as these new unions, What did you guy? What did you think about him and tell me if you honestly I cause you're a fan more than you are a writer.
00:17:53
Tell me what you really think.
00:17:54
And do you think they should have changed them? Uh, so So I'm kind of the odd one who I don't really care what the uniforms look like.
00:18:03
I do like the cleaner logo that the team went thio starting in 2014.
00:18:07
I like that it's cleaned up.
00:18:08
It's, you know, it's it's It's always better with the uniforms themselves, the jerseys in the pants and all that stuff like going to this version.
00:18:15
Obviously, it's a call back to the Super Bowl area uniform.
00:18:18
It's not the exact thing, but it's basically the same.
00:18:21
Actually had a good friend of mine, a mentor in the Army of mine who text me a picture of his old Mike Alstott uniform or a jerky and said, Look, my New Jersey just got here is amazing, delivered it and you know, that's funny.
00:18:32
Uh, I mean anything at the end of the day, the way that we kind of have to look at it is they made the change that they should have made into as a 14 when they went to the alarm clock numbers and the weird stripes on the shoulders and and all that stuff.
00:18:45
What they should have done has gone to the uniform they're wearing now, starting in 2020.
00:18:49
So this is base of the franchise, realizing their mistake and fixing it while they have the opportunity to do so.
00:18:55
The pewter color rushes something that Buccaneers fans on social media anyway have been calling for for years.
00:19:01
Ever since Color Rush came out, Ryan had been hoping for either a creamsicle color rush, which I don't know if people would actually appreciate seeing that in real life, um, or a pewter version.
00:19:12
And when the when the rumors kind of started circulating that it was gonna be pewter.
00:19:16
My concern is that, you know, pewter is kind of a flexible color, like London, a lot of different shades.
00:19:22
So I was a little worried that they did it in the wrong shade of pewter that it could turn out Ah, little nasty, but I think it looks good the way they look good.
00:19:29
That that when I do like so I like it.
00:19:31
And then I mean in the reveal that Levante David wearing the red jersey and that you know, he was drafted to the Buccaneers when they were still wearing that uniform.
00:19:38
So to see, you know, 54 wearing that number again. He's 30 now.
00:19:41
He was 22 or 23 when he got drafted, you know, so that there's a little nostalgia there.
00:19:45
Anything is going to re energize the lot a little bit to play in that uniform again.
00:19:49
Overall, I like it.
00:19:50
You know, we've had some detractors thought about was just kind of a safe pick, and it really was.
00:19:54
But the Buccaneers themselves say, Listen, we've heard you, the fans, and we're giving you what you want.
00:19:58
And at least for the 56 years I've been covering this team closely, the fans have been saying, Why did you ever leave the old uniforms? So fans literally got what they wanted and a pewter color rush.
00:20:08
So fans may not be excited because it's not, you know, the new new, but it's ah, it's It's a good move and it's better than what they had Yeah, absolutely.

Additionally, White said he has started work on an undisclosed island where he could convincingly book fights for international athletes who can come into the U.
00:28:27
S now I am not knocking Dana.
00:28:31
Whites hustle by any stretch of the imagination.
00:28:34
You know I'm not, but this is.
00:28:37
I mean, you want to talk about going the extra mile to keep your business going.
00:28:42
A kudos to Dana.
00:28:44
His quote was, I tell you this, I'm this close to getting a deal done.
00:28:50
So this place where this fight is going to be on April 18th I've locked up for two months, so I'm going to continue to pump fights out.
00:28:58
I also secured an island.
00:29:00
I've got an island.

Right now, we're going to do all of our international flights to this island.

So when we do do the first fight April 18th International and in the United States, we're going to start cranking.
00:29:18
The UFC will be back up and running internationally and here in the U. S.
00:29:24
Now the UFC was forced to postpone three of the events March 21st 2 28th in April 11th because of the Corona virus, Even as other leagues have remained shut down, White has been bully ish that the U. S. C.

Wilbur's brilliant I mean, you know, I've talked about this, tow my employees, and I've talked about this two former employees that we've had over the years.
00:29:47
And, you know, sometimes you got to think outside the box.
00:29:51
Um, now smart.
00:29:53
It is bringing people together and, you know, we're supposed to be trying to stay apart, But, you know, I I would hate to be that guy to knock us hustle, but, you know, hopefully it works out for the best.
00:30:08
Ah, former L A.
00:30:10
Ram player Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews have tweeted that the team is behind and delivering their paychecks, says at Rams NFL past Duke, Send me money.
00:30:22
A sap is what Girly wrote yesterday on his Twitter.
00:30:27
Now we all know that the Rams released girly and he's over in Atlanta and Matthews as well.
00:30:32
Clay Matthews.
00:30:33
They released him on March 19th.
00:30:35
Now Girlie signed a one year, $5.
00:30:36
5 million contract with the Falcons on Monday, and Matthews is still a unrestricted free agent.
00:30:45
The Rams believe they are in full compliance with the league's in the player's contract, according to ESPN.
00:30:51
And the team, of course, declined to comment on this in any way, shape or form.
00:30:57
The L A Rams, Huh? Released Girlie.
00:31:00
Less than two years after it's signed him to a four year, $60 million extension that included $45 million in guaranteed, the Rams saved 3.
00:31:10
7 million in salary cap by cutting Matthews at the end of the day.
00:31:16
Here's the deal.
00:31:18

00:31:35
Come on, man.
00:31:37
I mean, seriously, is this where we're at right now? I mean, don't act like I don't have the money because, you know, you two, um can City Chiefs had reached a one year deal with free agent running back DeAndre Washington? The source confirmed to ESPN yesterday.
00:31:54
Washington, 1/5 round draft pick of 2016 by the Raiders, also was a teammate of Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes at Texas Tech.

Glad to glad to be back with my dog, my home said on Twitter.
00:32:12
Welcome to Chiefs Kingdom.
00:32:15
Yahoo Sports was first to report Washington's agreement with the Chiefs chief starting running back Damian Williams returns, but the team doesn't have much depth behind him.
00:32:27
So signing DeAndre Washington was actually a very good move on Kansas City Chiefs part.
00:32:35
So kudos to them.

00:20:17
Hey, he is, um, David Harrison from SP nations bucks nation dot com David.
00:20:24
Let him know where they confront you on Social media, buddy.

00:20:54
If you are a Buck's fan, he actually has a mock draft over there as well with some of the players that he thinks wide receiver KJ Hill may come over to Tampa and their pick as well believe it's their first pick in the first round.
00:21:11
So go check that out over at buck's nation dot com.
00:21:14
Appreciate David for taking out the time.
00:21:17
All right, John, we're gonna take a quick break.
00:21:19
And when we get back, we'll close up to show what a couple of stories I didn't get a chance to get to yesterday.
00:21:26
Dan. Excuse me. Dana White.
00:21:28
UFC President uh, found himself in island so that he can ah, continue business as usual.
00:21:36
I don't blame him.
00:21:37
And apparently Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews, our little upset about not getting their paychecks from the Rams.
00:21:44
We'll talk about that and close up shop when we come back right here on the sports guy. Mike Show. Don't go nowhere.
00:21:54
Hey, Bill.
00:21:55
Sorry to hear about your car accident.
00:21:56
How are you doing? Not good, Mary.
00:21:58
My neck is killing me.
00:21:59
How do you find an attorney for your clean yet? You know, I went to one of those guys that you see on TV all the time, and they said my claim was too small.
00:22:06
You need to call McDole law for no claim is too big or too small.

00:27:33
According to Brett Oh, Comotto from ESPN and the mist of this global pandemic, he has secured a private island to host.
00:27:43
You have see events now.
00:27:45
While White told ESPN on Monday they have secured the location in the U.

00:28:14
00:29:01
The infrastructure is being built.
00:29:03
Right now, we're going to do all of our international flights to this island.
00:29:09
So when we do do the first fight April 18th International and in the United States, we're going to start cranking.
00:29:18
The UFC will be back up and running internationally and here in the U. S.
00:29:24
Now the UFC was forced to postpone three of the events March 21st 2 28th in April 11th because of the Corona virus, Even as other leagues have remained shut down, White has been bully ish that the U. S. C.
00:29:40
00:31:18
Y'all.
00:31:19
You are a NFL franchise in a $1,000,000,000 industry.

00:32:07
Glad to glad to be back with my dog, my home said on Twitter.
00:32:12
Welcome to Chiefs Kingdom.
00:32:15
Yahoo Sports was first to report Washington's agreement with the Chiefs chief starting running back Damian Williams returns, but the team doesn't have much depth behind him.
00:32:27
So signing DeAndre Washington was actually a very good move on Kansas City Chiefs part.
00:32:35
So kudos to them.
