the following takes place between 8 a.m.
Good morning, everybody.
And welcome back to another great and fantastic episode of EPC radio live It is Monday.
It is April the 6th 2000 and 20.
Yes, I checked my calendar because Dave's air starting to mold together and I just can't decipher I'm right yet.
So we had jam packed show today We're gonna talk some WrestleMania talk, some sports headlines and whatever the hell pops into our heads.
So without further ado, I got to bring in my man.
He's Mister Rhode Island himself.
He is locking down the Northeast.
He has taken care of everyone.
He is Mr Rhode Island.
Mike, how we doing today? Low.
I'm doing well, buddy.
I am doing well. Didn't join you here on a Monday morning.
Yeah, I wish I could say, you know, ah, jampacked weekend of sports action.
Unfortunately, we haven't said that in a while, but there's not a shortage of headlines, not a shortage of stories to talk about.
So, uh, yeah, let's get right to it.
You know, to be honest with you, it's it's you know, I hate to say it but I'm kind of I'm not getting used to it.
Let's just put that way.
But But you're the new norm is Ah, certainly starting to to settle in a little bit.
You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, it's certainly not something that we're ever going to.
Ah, You get used to 100% and be like, Oh, yeah, I know.
Ho home. This is what it is.
But, um, you know, we've been at this.
What now? Ah, you know, just short of a month, it feels like I mean again. I don't know.
It feels sometimes a lot longer than you think.
Then it actually has been, but, uh, yeah, I mean, look, was that, uh, short? I know his work before Austin 3 16 day because that was kind of the first week where everything went haywire and everything was was off and canceled.
And, you know, here we are April 6th and ah, you know, that's that's where we are.
And it really doesn't look to be any end in sight despite, um what? Thea, you know, President may say or suggest I mean, at this rate, I mean, I'm not going to get my hopes up that things were gonna be back to normal in a couple months.
I still think it's going to take some time, but, you know hey, you know, everyone's dealing with it in their own way as long as they're there, abiding by the guidelines and the suggestions by the medical professionals.
That's what we're talking about here.
The scientists, that the doctors, those of the people you should be listening to not you know, again you can.
You can do the research yourself.
You can figure it out yourself.
But, uh, bottom line is listen to the doctors and the scientists, the people that actually no more about this than we do what you know.
Politicians do what new stations do.
Journalists do the those of the guys to listen to what you know.
Well, let's try to be responsible here and listen to what they're suggesting, and a lot of them are suggesting and pretty much the same thing.
Stay home, avoid going out and doing your regular things and, you know, let this pass and let this, um, run its course because there's no way that we're gonna be able to let it let it run its course if everyone's just out there doing what they're doing.
Hey, Way can always find something to talk about.
That's the beauty of this show.
Might because, you know, we're doing this for a while now, and generally we stick to out, Ah, 75% sports topic, and then that other 25% is just whatever comes into our ah, ah, half wit brains that we decided we want to talk about.
But we do actually have something to talk about because, um, WrestleMania list this weekend and I got his egg forgiven cir***stances.
And given everything that has gone on, you know, hats off to, you know, Vincent grand WW, triple H, all those guys that put together the show.
And, of course, obviously the performer person What? Not under very extraordinary cir***stances.
And, ah, you know, good for them from making the most out of what is generally, you know, which is a pretty crap situation for most people.
And you know what? It offered a few very memorable moments.
And when you're talking about the showcase of the immortals that we're talking about, Russell may not this show I mean showed to qualify under those guidelines.
But, uh, when it comes to that recommending itself that, you know Hat's off to them they put a good show over two nights, and I think it was a nice distraction for a lot of people, even even some that may not necessarily be wrestling fans.
I I think it was a good, good Ah, good couple nights without question.
I completely agree.
And of course I agree with you mostly on the showcase of the mortals.
I mean, come on, you know, that's that's what we're talking about.
You know, that's that's exactly what we're all about me when I'm immortal and everything.
Just kidding, just kidding in folks.
But no, I mean good photos again.
Kudos to Vince McMahon and the W.
W We brass for being able to put on a pretty good show over the weekend, and the reaction on social media proved that wth the bone yard match, the Undertaker and M.
Stiles put on a phenomenal show last night.
Obviously the flagship was EJ and Randy Orton, and I think a lot of people really enjoyed that when some people thought it went a lot little bit too long.
I think that that was needed in order to fill time between the two knights set and ah, summit meeting be championship.
I thought I was seeing things, but he doesn't have that to discredit now.
So that's Ah, that's a feather in the cap for Gronk.
Now we know why he signed that contract, What that was all about.
In any case, now, I mean, it gave people a chance to watch something live.
It gave people an opportunity to experience a life event, you know, once again a sporting event, regardless of whether the ending was scripted or not.
I mean, the action that you see is always is always good.
So I was very curious to find out how they were going to be able to do it without an audience, how they were able to pull it off.
And yeah, I mean, I going to lie to you and say that an audience doesn't enhance the products like, can't do that and say that it wouldn't have.
But all in all, I really think they did a good job and they deserve a lot of credit for it.
And I think they put on a very good show under the cir***stances and we hear on F p.
We had ah, two nights are friends over a talk a minute did post shows and I wish I could remember who exactly said it because they also had our friends boot to the face, both of them available on the FPC up, by the way.
So check it out.
Apple and Android search full press covered in the respective stores, but they made a great point.
They said The way they set up the stage, um, the the arena.
Rather, they've improved on that.
So, like the first couple of nights there, there were empty stands and and I think that I know it's just a visual thing.
But the way they set up the the arena yesterday and Saturday night, they eliminated the empty seats and kind of closed it in a little bit.
So that helped, I think, and I think it helped in at least from a visual aspect.
And look, wrestling is one of those things.
I mean all sports, you know, you there's an added element when you have the fan base is involved.
Although I do believe that in regular traditional sporting events that aren't, uh but you say scripted and people say, Oh, it's fake love about Yeah, And I always point to Well, you like action movies.
Okay, you get emotionally involved in action movies and the drama that plays out on that, its exact same thing.
So ah, but in this way that in that sense the crowd does play a huge role in wrestling.
I mean, it is it's It's about playing to the crowd.
It's about, you know, heels, you know, coming out and taking jabs.
You know, at that at the fan base and you know, people playing off the emotions and the, you know, ebbs and flows of the crowd.
So, um, you know, it was it was definitely they made the most out of it, and again I was.
I enjoyed the event.
I actually liked the fact that they did it over two nights, and this was obviously a necessity when it came to this situation.
But it's been something that's been talked about being done, you know, in a normal WrestleMania situation.
I mean, how cool would it be to have a WrestleMania weekend that actually has two nights of events in that, you know, as opposed to one day.
That's, you know, six.
I mean, I guess I have feelings on both sides.
Like again, I I think the idea of splitting it up over two nights was was interesting, and I think it it allows them to do a lot more, um, and kind of shape each night and in a different manner, especially with the way that they have so many different obviously stars and brands and all that stuff.
But, um, you know, at the same time, you know, one night a year, being again the showcase of the immortals and all that stuff, it's tough.
But again, the World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon, all the people involved really put on, um, you know a hell of a show.
He gave us something different.
And look, I mean, I I say it all the time.
I'm not as, ah you know, dedicated of a follower as I used to be.
I mean, again, we, the two of us could go back about 15 16 years or so.
And, you know, we're sitting there with T shirts and you know, championship belts over our shoulder and all that stuff, you know? But now it's like I always watch WrestleMania always try to tune into some of the bigger events.
It just kind of keep in touch with what's going on, because again it, you know, at the end of the day, I'm still a wrestling fan.
I still appreciate what they do and how they go about their business.
Eventually it before I've I've dabbled a little bit in the training aspect of it.
Also, you know, I I appreciate the physicality and the athleticism that it takes to actually do this sport.
And I do call it a sport.
Um, so yeah, again, Hats off to them. I enjoyed the show.
I thought it was incredible that the bone yard match.
I mean, we saw one of these concept matches long, long ago, Roddy Piper and gold dust.
Okay. And and you know it.
You We've seen some of these happen, um, in terms of offsite type matches, and, you know, in this case, they did more of Ah, it was more of a production than anything you know, talking about this and then the of course, the John Sena and the fiend Firefight, Funhouse match or whatever.
Um, they're both obviously productions and all that, but it brought an interesting perspective.
And I think this gave them an opportunity to try something like this because of the cir***stances.
And you know what? As weird and strange as it was, I really enjoyed it.
Having I was confused.
I was certainly, you know, thinking OK, I probably you know, maybe if I was, you know, ah, hard core every night.
No matter what type of fan, I think I would have picked up on a little bit more of the you know how they're doing things.
But I think both were fantastic.
I thought Thea the undertaker a.
Stiles quote unquote match was was great.
Um, and and again at the bottom at at the end of day was it was incredibly entertaining.
It wasthe I was, you know, I mean, you look at what they're able to do and a special, especially a performer like the undertaker has been around 1990 with debut.
I mean, he was wrestling wcw n n w a long before that.
So this is a guy that's been around a good, long while and these to become a master of putting on these types of productions.
Stiles the guy that I've been a fan of since it is days back in t n A and then coming over to W W.
And I think that he's really grown by leaps and bounds since he's come under the W W E umbrella.
I thought he did a great job on I thought, obviously I thought the taker did Amazing job.
This is his element.
And again, these concept matches things that are pre tape things that are, you know, a production.
It was basically like a miniseries was almost like a little mini movie that you were watching unfold.
And I think in a lot of ways, I think W.
W We realized that that may have been the best way to market something like this.
And again, say what you will about Vince McMahon.
You can call him, you know, brash and call American.
You know you can be little what he does in terms of the product that he provides, but it's always watched by a great number of people, and it had that has to count for something.
Ah, the ingenuity that it takes to bring stuff like this to the table and do what he does.
There's nobody better.
And there never will be anybody better than Vince of what he's done.
That's why wrestling is where it is today is because of his vision and because of what he was able to do.
I know you know the performers in the ring again.
It's almost like the Brady who's more responsible for the, um I'm sorry.
I mean, as as big of a holding fan that I was growing up.
I mean, I've got to give the non events because he had to reinvent himself several times and he did that and he did it every single time.
And it wasn't something where he ever really lost to be yet he took some shots.
He took some hits when WCW was, you know, really giving him a run for his money back in the heyday and the early to mid nineties.
But, uh, at that point he was he was ready to, well, to put his head down, do what he needed to do and took the company and the sport in a different direction.
So you got to give him a lot of credit for that.
And again, I found I thought they did a fairly, fairly nice job.
I thought that's a good entering action.
A lot of again a lot of the social media buzz.
People were pleased.
And I think that says a lot, considering what we're going through right now.
I know the argument and the tendency on people that like to knock W W.
We're going to say, Oh, there was just nothing else on people just so starved for it.
They would have watched, you know, the, uh would have watched the chicken fight from Seinfeld.
Where were you for the ringer in the back, and then they would sell tamales for it.
But that's not necessarily the case, I think, especially wrestling fans.
We're gonna watch this with even more of a keen and maybe more of a critical eye, because all of the attention was focused on it.
And to me, the praise that I saw coming from hardcore wrestling fans told me all I need to know about the success or non success of WrestleMania this weekend.
Yeah, and look, I mean, who knows what's gonna happen Moving forward.
We know, obviously a w there, you know, I'm not gonna call them their competitors, But obviously, more prominent wrestling organization has canceled for the foreseeable future.
Obviously, there live events.
However, they have the ability to much like things like Ring of Honor and some of these other smaller promotions.
And certainly what, you know, E.
W used to do back in the day was they pre record.
And you know what? You can you can knock out a few weeks worth of content.
Um, you know, maybe limited.
You know, you're not going to get three hour long episodes of raw, but, you know, you can put together a program over the course of a day or two and, you know, take a few weeks off and then continue to provide programming.
And I think that, um, you know it It's certainly in this day and age, you know, to to pre record, uh, wrestling is not something that you ideally want to dio.
I mean, we always and we've talked about it before.
The famous ah, you know Eric Bischoff spoiling the **** Foley title, huh? Title win.
that backfired incredibly terribly for him.
But you know, things like that just you can't do any more because of you know that this day and age, the Internet and how rumors and spoilers get out.
But, um, you know, if they do it right, they can.
They can still complete a bunch of programming and not, uh, necessarily do this live week by week, Um, is set up, you know, like like they normally do.
So I mean, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Obviously, they have to adhere to whatever state guidelines they may have.
That may mean moving away from the Orlando facility because of some of the restrictions here in Florida.
Perhaps they go elsewhere.
Regardless, I I am gonna be curious to see how it plays out, whether or not they're actually going to go through with Ah, the paper.
The next pay per view coming up.
I know with WrestleMania.
I mean, it was just, you know, I I have a feeling that if this was just one of your, you know, run of the mill paper views that they've had You know what I'm saying? Like I feel like maybe the show might have not going on.
Or maybe it would have been a little bit different, but census was WrestleMania, you know, they did whatever had, you know, whatever had to be done.
So, um, no, it will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks, but hats off to them.
It was good. Good stuff.
Still got you there, Mike.
You know, you still have.
Okay, that was my fault.
On the, uh, the one that was actually the f c c e.
I was I was muted on that, and I did not realize that, but, uh sorry, folks, but yeah, I completely agree.
And I think again, I think it was very important events to continue this tradition.
You know, WrestleMania has always gone off without much of a hitch on.
Obviously, this year was probably the biggest hit, the biggest threat that they ever had not being able to complete a show, even when the Gulf War was on.
You want to go way, way back, you know, I mean, that was that was something where they had to actually move.
That was scheduled to be.
It was WrestleMania seven.
I think it was Hogan Slaughter.
And that was supposed to be in the in the L.
And because it was an open air arena and they couldn't guarantee any type of safety for the performers involved, they had to move it to the L A sports arena on DDE.
That was the last minute they actually wanted to move it to the forum form.
Could not, uh, they couldn't accommodate them that day.
I think there was either a playoff game, something that was going on, whether the l A forum could not accommodate them.
Move it indoors.
Eso I mean, this is this is an organization that is used to having things, to disrupt their plans a little bit, but still being able to move forward.
So I was impressed by what they did.
And again, I don't know.
I don't necessarily think this is gonna be the new normal.
I think they want to continue to perform the way they always have.
But you make an interesting point.
If they complete tape some stuff, get some stuff in the can, you know it can provide some good content for people out there that are trying to do everything that they can to be entertained during times like this.
So it was good to see that there was a least something to talk about and sports radio shows all over the country today.
I'm sure we're gonna be talking WrestleMania and much too, most of their chagrin.
But they're gonna be talking it because it is one of the only games in town right now.
So, you know, give a lot of credits events.
And by all accounts, I did read several times that l the performers, everything off camera equipment, everything that was done, strictest guidelines were put in place to ensure their safety on to ensure the safety of everyone around.
So big kudos to him for doing that because that's that's something that could have been a problem in there.
You know, where any type of issues or anything from that? It's nice to see that it wasn't Just let the show go on and was let the show go on to let everybody be safe.
And I think they deserve a lot of credit for that as well.
Yeah, and look, I mean, obviously there were some last minute changes to the program.
Excuse me to the programming.
Um, in particular, Roman reigns, We all know has gone through ah, treatment for leukemia.
So obviously he's a, you know, farm or, uh, susceptible to suit to some of the very terrible effects of off this virus.
So of course he was pulled from the event, and rightfully so.
I mean, again, you're not gonna take any chances with anyone, let alone, you know, when it one of your biggest stars and all that.
So I think they did do the right thing.
And look, if they pretty record, this gives everyone a chance to, you know, kind of go away for a few weeks and let the show go on without, you know, missing a beat.
But without putting these performers at risk.
And, uh, you know, again, it's it's, you know, we're all adjusting here, from from the major leagues to the fans, to everyone.
We're just trying to figure out how to how to move forward, what's gonna happen.
And, you know, it'll be interesting to see.
And, uh, of course, of course, the anxiety I would say down here, in particular in Tampa, and everything like that is, you know, they much like we were pretty 2004 in New England.
Let's you know, let's preface it with that.
The, uh Wait till next year.
We're never gonna win blah bobo.
But that whole mentality Ah, pre 2004.
Obviously, I say that, but obviously it was pretty 2001 before the Patriots won the Super Bowl.
But you know, specifically that Red Sox mentality that we had in the city for 86 years, obviously expanding generations.
Uh, that's kind of what you get down here in Tampa and the idea that, you know, Operation Shoeless Joe Jackson went through unlike the Bay of Pigs.
Uh uh, the fact that that went through and now the season, You know, again, what we don't know.
We're not speculating, but the idea that the season may not actually happen or happen later be affected, is weighing on people's minds because the idea that they finally got the greatest quarterback of all time to actually come to their team and there's a possibility that this season may be delayed.
It's it's it's It's making people little, ah, little nervous and again I mean, it's mostly based on just we don't we don't know.
And I think everyone is just kind of, you know, trying to figure out what's what the next step is.
And we really just don't have a clue at this moment.
But, um, I did find it interesting that that was Thea That was the code name for the operation.
And that kind of I kind of like it was It was Ah, it was interesting.
If you haven't read the read the story yet, um, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, check it out.
It was a really great read.
It was a fun read.
If you're obviously if you're ah, recovering Patriots fan, I wouldn't recommend it because again, it might, you know, pull some some strong emotions out, you know, out of you.
But ah, you know, if you're a box fan, it's it's it kind of speaks to what, um, you know what? The mentality was going in.
Where is like, Okay, we're gonna try toe pursuit, Tom Brady. We'll see what happens.
But then it turned quickly turned into Oh, my God. We actually have a chance.
And, uh, you know what? Hey, it's Ah, uh, I'm going to say it's gonna be interested.
I hope, obviously that football in general plays and again, I The more I look at it, the more I look into it.
I think it will be a pretty special season four Tom.
Uh and I think it's gonna hopefully I say hopefully, but not really, because again, there's, I think this this type of backlash towards him will go on forever because we've seen it come out in spades, things week in particular.
But, um, it's gonna be interesting to see how the NFL pursues moving forward, whether you know whether or not this season does start on time.
But I know people down here are just hoping and praying that it does, because again it is.
This is there's a lot of excitement down here, and I think there's also a lot of cautious ah hopes because again, I mean, who knows what's gonna happen with the season was gonna happen.
So so again, it's ah, you know, it's gonna be interesting to see just exactly how it plays out.
But I think people are excited.
See Tom Brady, and it was a fun story to read and kind of kind of get that behind the scenes, Um, get the behind the scenes, I guess. Point of view.
Is that how this actually went down? And really, if you believe it, it was It was a fairly quick process that really stand over, Maybe put two days.
So, yeah, I mean, if you look at the timeline and I agree with you, I think Rick's piece was excellent on The Tampa Bay Times.
And again, you know, for people like me that are still still really hurting over this whole hardly a lot.
It might be a very, very difficult read for my people up here in New England, But again, I think that when you look at how this unfolded, I really it's It was a little bit of an eye opener for me.
I think in a lot of ways, I think it's solidifying.
Maybe a lot that Patriots fans were a little bit squeamish about admitting, and that's really that, you know, the clock may have struck midnight way before free agency period even began.
And, you know, I think maybe it was a misreading of the market.
Maybe it was a misreading of the signs that we all had when it came to out of Tom's departure from New England.
But I agree with you.
I think that there is a lot of excitement down in Tampa.
I think that this could be a very exciting time for them.
But again, the wild card in all this is what's gonna happen with, you know, with everything that has been going on.
I know there was that conference call with all of the major commissioners of all the major sports entities and the president.
I think that a little maybe on um, maybe a little overzealous and saying that he expects, you know, team sports to be back in arenas by August and September.
I quite frankly, folks, I don't see how that's possible, but we'll see.
I mean, we'll see what happens.
I don't I don't believe that you're not going to see team sports this year.
I think it may start to reality.
They start to be creeping in that we may have seen the last of the MBA and the NHL this season.
I I don't know if they're going to be able to rebound and pick up where they left off.
I think it's gonna be a tough thing, especially knowing when they actually do end up being able to play what that's gonna do, their off season there, prep time.
I mean, it's It's so difficult to think about stuff like that.
Now Major League Baseball, When are they gonna get going? Mid summer before you know, we even see any games played.
You know, how is that gonna work out? So I think a lot of it really depends on the situation, as always, and it's tough.
It really is because so many of the athletes are so dedicated.
And, you know, we're not even talking about the heartbreak that college sports in high school sports and youth sports are experiencing all throughout the country right now in leagues that want to be able to play, they want to be able to showcase their town.
You have high schoolers out there right now that I'm worried about years of eligibility and being able to worry about proving themselves in getting college scholarships, and they realize that that's their ticket to an education.
In a lot of ways, it's It's so sad, you know, to see things like that going on.
But yeah, I mean again.
I mean, I know I went off on a change in a little bit.
Sorry, but bringing it back to Ah Brady and that whole, uh, situation it was, I think that was That was it was a great read by by Rick.
I think that, you know, it's again.
It's one of those things with with Tom where you need to.
I think about all of the cir***stances surrounding it.
And really, I think it's It's kind of a microcosm for all free agency right now.
Get a lot of players that excited to play in new spots, NFL, I mean, and they're just wondering when they're going to be able to get going.
And at this point, I think it's a valid question to wonder if it's going to be able to get going.
Look, and there is another piece published, and I'm not gonna name names again.
I you know, it was very hop Sing's No, no, no hop sing's.
But I think you know what I'm going to reference, because again, this is kind of their M O and kind of what they do.
But, um, in the heavily again that it was prefaced with, ahh legacy defining our legacy, you know, how does this impact is low? And it's such a ridiculous notion because Tom could go out and have you No.
One and 15 season.
Well, I'm not going to say that he won't have that, but I'm saying like he can go out and play, you know, not to his standard.
And it's going to do absolutely nothing to affect his legacy.
If anything, the only thing that can happen is it will.
It will increase his legacy to the to the dopes out there that still question it.
Um, you know, let's just put it that way.
So any suggestion that this is a Peru social media at all this weekend for God, that's still quest.
I mean, unfortunately, we only have about 11 minutes left in the program, so I don't know how much I want to get into that, but these thieves pro Ah, Drew Brees folks out there and look, I I love Drew Brees is I hate that I have to sit here and and tear apart his his career.
But this notion that he's somehow on the on the level of Brady.
And again, I'm not even gonna.
People are bringing up Rogers because they replayed the Super Bowl yesterday, and obviously all these crazies air coming out as well.
And it's just like guys, it's such it's it's such a a terrible side to take If you're going to sit here and try to explain away all the success Tom Brady as it's just it's foolish at this point.
But yet, anyway, is going back to the article that I was mentioned.
I'm not like I said, It's on ESPN.
You can you can search for it yourself.
Check my Twitter.
I've commented on it several times at a g, l e and 31.
Ah, that The overwhelming premise the overwhelming ah theme of that, uh, article was that Brady essentially got so sick of Belichick that he wanted to move on.
And I think that is ah, incredible exaggeration of what actually happened, because I I think really what it was was I think Brady just wanted a new challenge.
He has very limited time left in this league.
I think he might have seen that you know.
Look, the Patriots, we weren't really gonna be able to afford paying him and and be able to put the same type of team around him that maybe he wants it.
And I think it just kind of was like, You know what? I You know? I think I'm ready to, you know, it's just like, you know what? I've done it before I've moved.
I moved down to Florida again.
I like I said, Brady Brady followed May, But, um, you know, there's excitement and change and there's excitement and and something new.
And after, you know, after playing for the Patriots for 20 years and he knowing that he obviously only has a couple of years left at at the most, the idea of trying something else could have just really become ah desire for him.
And and I don't think it necessarily means that he was sick of Belichick.
I think it was just look, you spent 20 years together.
How many marriages last 20 years, you know, like especially now It's like it's so again this idea and it's a narrative that's gonna get pushed.
Ah, nonstop by by a majority of the media folks out there that, um, or interested in actual, more interested in narrative driven ah, journalism as opposed to a factual based on an actual critical thinking based journalism, they're going to say, Oh, no.
Brady was so sick of Belichick.
Big mean Belichick, Bubba, Bubba, Bubba.
No, I think it was just natural for them to separate.
And look, I I expected him to come back.
I thought he was gonna come back.
Um, I felt that was pretty strongly about that up until, you know, pretty much the the day or day or two days before you really start to get that.
We talked about this on this program before, and, um, but, you know, at the end of day, I don't think this was some, you know, putting of the heads of the two.
I think at the end of the day, I mean, they're gonna have ah, they have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for the two offered themselves.
You know what I mean? Like not themselves.
But you know each other, and I think it's only gonna enhance and and again in a couple of years, whether it's 2021 when he comes back to play the Patriots in New England or the moment he retires and he comes back and gets his statue and whatnot, we're going to see that.
You know, Look, this this whole idea that there is this massive ah feud in tension between these two and maybe Robert crafted just in my opinion, it doesn't it didn't exist.
It's never existed.
I think this was just a natural split that, you know, after 20 years, just, you know, it's it's shocking.
But, you know, for a guy like Tom Brady, it's almost like, Okay, you know, you look it.
He always wants to find that challenge.
And I think this is the perfect way to challenge himself because he's the most self motivated person of I've ever read about ever seen in my life.
I mean, the guy finds motivation and anything.
I mean, that's why he's playing at such a high level at this point, his life.
And I think this was it for him.
This was that next challenge he looked at, like Okay, maybe I can go and and win a Super Bowl with another team and maybe help a team that again has a 3 79 4 79 winning percentage has a franchise.
Um, you know, that's That's a pretty enticing challenge.
And if I was Tom Brady, I would look at that would be like, You know what? That I want to do that So I could not agree more with everything that you said.
And you know, I know the peace that you're referring to and I'll bite my tongue as well because it is the M O, especially the author, the source.
This is probably the best way to put it.
But you know, I don't get self righteous and tell me it's not about cliques because it is a clear Absolut.
I mean, there's no, I mean, people will tell you, it's it's it's the substance of it and there's there's there's, you know, there's no empirical data to back out off.
It really is not.
I mean, if you are taking a victory lap, and I don't just know, I'm not just talking about that source right now I'm talking about In general, I've seen so many victory laps over the course of the last few weeks since Brady announced that he was going to Tampa Bay or really, since he announced that he was no longer returning to New England.
Don't sit up there and get on your soapbox and start telling people.
See, I was right all along because you weren't right all along.
You threw a dart and it happened to land.
Don't act like you pinpointed.
And you uncovered Watergate here.
Um, you know, So that's that's my you know, that's that's my soapbox for the day when it comes to when it comes to matters like this.
I agree with you.
Anybody that knows the story of Tom Brady and Bill Del Eject.
These are two of the most motivated sports figures of their time.
And I think Brady saw an opportunity to do something a little different to do something a little bit, you know, against the grain.
And I think he saw the handwriting on the wall.
I think you've been pointed that perfectly.
You look at the cap space that the Patriots had their ability to surround Tom with high level talent.
It just wasn't there this time around.
Maybe we were a little bit over aggressive.
You know, theoretically, it could have been done.
You can do it. You can.
You know, we've talked to our good friend Miguel Bins on several times, who outlined several cases where Brady could have signed a similar deal to what he signed in, um, in Tampa Bay.
Really back building.
A lot of granted.
Tampa Bay gave him more money and the big dreams could ever give.
But the Patriots could have made a competitive offer to time and really made.
It may be less about the money back, built it and said, Look, we're going to do this.
We're gonna do that But they're planning involved something different and say what you will about Bill Belichick is not goingto alter his plans for anybody, including the greatest player that's ever played the game.
So when you see that type began writing on the wall, it doesn't necessarily mean that there is a rift or I want to get us far away from Belichick.
I think Brady heard their plan and said, That's not for me This time around.
I've done it too many times.
I've done it long enough.
I wish you well and I hope that everything works out for you.
but I have to do my own thing here.
I have to go out and I'm to do it on my own.
And I think that's what you're seeing.
So, you know, I think it's gonna lead to success for him and sample eventually.
I think it'll lead to success, too, for build here in New England.
But you know, we'll we'll see that.
That's what that's.
That's why they play the games.
Hopefully, we'll get back to playing games sooner rather than later.
But it'll be interesting to see how both sides were able Thio do.
But you're still gonna get the yahoos out there that are gonna turn this into Brady versus fella check.
And folks, if you have I have a brain, please understand that that is not what this is about in any way, shape or form.
No, and and that again, it's It's a great point because you know the folks out there that you know, these are the folks that come out and bright, thes longform stories.
And then get Thea.
You know, the unwavering support of their journalists there.
Journal journalism colleagues, which again is it just turns my stomach every time because It's so obvious and so just fake in my mind.
But you know, it is what it is, and you know you can believe what you want to believe.
But this was nothing more than just, ah, challenge being looked at by a guy who, you know, is always looking for the next challenge.
And I think at the end of the day, in a couple of years, when again, he's got his jersey retired.
Um, no one's ever gonna wear number 12 begin in New England.
He's gonna have a statue out there.
I mean, it's it's gonna be akin to to the Bobby Orr statue outside of the TD Garden and all that.
Oh, there's some idiot on Twitter this weekend that suggested that they were gonna give number 12 to the new kicker.
They believe me when I tell you, I actually that yeah, that that's that's foolish.
I mean, the if you have any doubt that these guys respect and admire each other than again, you're you're in the wrong business.
You're in the drama and the y I N f l 100.
And just watch the back and forth between these two.
That was supposedly the peak of this.
This this rivalries.
Look, look at the admiration those two have for each other, I guarantee.
Well, and I wanted to save this, and I certainly wanted to mention this because I am beyond excited for what's gonna happen this week, though.
And I think you might be knowing what I'm going to talk about real quick before we get off there is Tom Brady, and I, uh, I can't wait for this because I think it's going to It's going to be fantastic and it's gonna live up to the hype.
But he is going to be on the Howard Stern Show on Wednesday and against Say what you want about Howard.
I've obviously been a fan of his for a very long time, as you have a swell and we've seen him involved and change and, you know, do different things.
And you know, people out there.
Or so how is this? How is that? What he is is perhaps the greatest interview of all time.
That's that's not a that's really not a, uh, hyperbole.
That's not a oh.
People just say that.
No, the the guy knows howto to get information out of people that really just you never get.
And And people come on this program and open up like they've never opened up before and I'm not gonna lie.
I cannot wait to listen to that program.
Um, on Wednesday, um, it's neither, you know, Howard is so good at being able to do.
I watched his interview and I listened to his interview with Magic Johnson, which I thought was amazing on his ability to be able to extract stuff from sports personalities.
How is very good at doing it with celebrities but sports? He's got a knack for that.
This is gonna be really, really interesting.
Yeah, exactly like I mean, I just I can't wait one of my favorite interviews that he's done someone in the more recent passes.
When he had Joe Nemeth on here and, you know, obviously I'm not a Jets fan, but I think you know, being a football fan, you can respect the history of the game and having him have that type of discussion would.
But Joe was was fantastic, and I again I can't wait for this Wednesday.
I'm not exactly sure what time it's going to be, but it may affect this program because if it is during the eight o'clock hour, we might have to delay the show because I wanna listen to it live.
And I think, you know, I want to be able to ah, you know, us be able to talk about that and everything like that.
But that's gonna be fantastic.
So if you're if you're serious except subscriber, I highly recommend tuning in and 01 Saito, listen to it.
Um, if you're not ah, highly recommended subscribing.
So you listen to it is that I have a feeling it's gonna be pretty awesome.
And I think you're gonna learn a lot about Tom, the person that maybe you don't know.
I mean, maybe we know a little bit more than others, but I think the national media, the folks down here in Tampa are going to get a little bit more so, uh, yeah, that's it for us today, Mike.
Um, you know, we had a brief show today, but I was happy to get back here.
We could talk, talk some sports, talk some current events, and, uh, look, we're gonna be back throughout the week, and we're gonna have some fun with it.
Maybe we're gonna talk some Tiger King.
It's gonna be a new episode coming out this week.
Apparently, you know, it's all the craze I'm telling you.
Check it out, folks.
It is It's all the craze.
I might have to hop on the train.
Yeah, I start start interacting with everybody else.
It's going crazy.
Oh, I was going to say maybe not hopping on the train because it's an absolute train wreck, and I think that's the appeal of the show.
But maybe step Yeah.
Hey, you know, my my, uh, my coffee is kicking in.
No, I I would I would watch from afar And just you know, this isn't, uh you know, I've seen some people say things like, Hey, you know why you why you are praising these people or why you're not to me specifically, But in general, why you celebrating these people? And you're really not? I mean, they're awful people in this world.
I mean, it is what it is.
Uh, this gave you a insight into some of the awfulness that that happens in this world.
And you know, the the fascination with it is is like the cast of characters.
It's just, you know, you wouldn't believe it if it was in a movie script.
So that's the fascination with it.
Um, again, it's I I'm not sitting here saying I'm enjoying some of the things I hear from it, but again, it's just such a train wreck of a show that you can't look away.
So I have recommended in Hey, you know, being around.
