I remember is an Eagles fan when LaShawn McCoy got traded and the Eagles, in return, got a linebacker who wore belly shirts by the name of Kiko Alonzo.
And I just remember frantically thinking to myself, Okay, this tray just doesn't make sense.
None of it makes sense.
Why would Chip Kelly do this? And I would just find try to find the reasoning behind why he did.
But at the end of the day, it was just Chip Kelly outsmarting himself, and the decision was a stupid as it appeared on paper.
And that's the same thing that I feel about this.
The Hunt DeAndre Hopkins trade today.
It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
From Houston's point of view from Houston's perspective, Why would they send DeAndre Hopkins, a wide receiver in his prime three years, $40 million left on his contract? A very, very reasonable deal? A guy who average, who is averaging 1100 yards this season, is last three years.
He's he's been unbelievable.
Let's see, what are the stats here? He's 27 3 time All Pro, and over the last three years he's averaged 100 5 catches, 1372 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Why would you trade him for David Johnson? And a second? It doesn't even make sense.
Are they trying the Rebuild? Do they realize that 10 and six isn't going to be good enough that this team that they have isn't going to be good enough to get past the divisional round? But if that's the case, you're telling me this was all they could get for DeAndre Hopkins, David Johnson and a second David Johnson hasn't been relevant since 2016.
He's been hurt ever since.
Now I know Bill O'Brien likes guys running backs who catch passes out of the backfield.
Maybe he just thinks David Johnson is all worldly.
I did like David Johnson coming out of Northern Iowa.
He had a great season.
Catches passes, you see, is pretty good in between the tackles.
Houston does like to run the football a lot.
They ran it the third most times.
That, too, has an 18 last year.
Not as much, because if you remember, they had the injury to Lamar Miller and they kind of had a makeshift committee of sorts with Carlos Hyde and, uh who they trade for they traded for Duke Johnson, so they traded 1/4 round pick for Duke Johnson.
Another guy who likes to catch passes the backfield.
So I'm just I'm baffled.
I'm trying to figure out why.
What's the reasoning of why is there a Texans fan that can give me a a positive spin on this? Is it possible because I don't know what Houston is doing? That organization is been a mess.
They got rid of their GM last June in Brian Game.
They had a plan, too.
Hired director of player personnel of the New England Patriots.
Nick Cassie, Ario.
This plan did not come out.
The fruition CAS area wanted to go back to New England, and they didn't have a backup plan.
So this entire season, where they had Jadeveon Clowney and and we're obviously looking to trade him, they didn't have a GM.
Bill O'Brien was essentially the the fact of GM, and now Bill O'Brien became the GM in January.
He's got all the power, and this is the movie that he just made.
It feels very, very, very Chip Kelly ish.
I have the power, and I'm going to do what I want stupid.
I think he's gonna be the first coach fired in 2020.
I don't think this is gonna work out.
And it's just gonna be coming off the rails.
I think is gonna come off the rails for Houston next year on, uh you know, whether they go, I think he's gonna get fired mid season.
I think he's gonna be gone.
I mean, I'm telling you, man, I'm trying to figure out the why.
Because they traded for Layer Me. Tunsil.
They really needed a left tackle.
Right? So it's like, Okay, you trade for a left tackle.
So you could give obviously to Shawn Watson sometime time so you can get the ball out to Did you, DeAndre Hopkins? Well, now you don't have the Andre Hopkins.
So why did you trade for later? Me? Tunsil.
I just I'm baffled.
I'm just trying to figure out why.
Why they would do this.
Just I'm I'm I got nothing for you guys.
Any Texans van out there? I got nothing for you.
This is a stupid trade.
Everybody knows this is Chip Kelly again.
A coach who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room.
But he's just a guy who's just outsmarting himself.
That's what this is.
The only plausible explanation is at 10 and six.
They pulled in New Orleans and they pulled a Seattle where they're like, OK, we have to take a couple steps back before we take a couple steps forward.
New Orleans If you remember, they traded Jimmy Graham.
They got some pics for him and that wild of bleeding to their kind of resurgence.
They they had a couple of years where it didn't look so hot.
But then, you know, drafted Well, they got Michael Thomas. They got over.
Tomorrow, they build a defense, and now they're one of the best teams in the NFC.
Seattle kind of did the same thing.
You had the older players of Legion of Boom and no.
Then they kind of moved on.
They got younger, and now they're back in the playoffs.
Is that what Houston is trying to do? That's the only logical explanation.
But if you're trying to do that, you need to get more for DeAndre Hopkins.
Houston Chronicle's Erin Wilson reported Monday that there was friction between Bill O'Brien and DeAndre Hopkins.
Tell me an occasion there wasn't friction between a star player and a head coach At some point during the season, some coaches have the emotional intelligence tow handle, friction.
Tom Peterson is one of those people.
Chip Kelly is not.
That's why he traded LaShawn McCoy.
He wanted yes, meant you wanted people to not challenge him. Challenge his authority.
Why? Because, well, I don't know cause he doesn't have the balls to handle Nobel Check has had friction with a lot of players in the past.
It's every coach deals with this.
So if that was the reasoning behind trading DeAndre Hopkins and like Chip Kelly, you're just once Mr Bill O'Brien.
I mean, these are my thoughts in the trade.
I'm I'm just sitting here trying to figure out the reasoning, trying to figure out the why it just doesn't make sense.
As for Arizona, man, let me tell you something.
There's a great get for them. Cuyler Murray.
They were a little bit surprising last year.
Cliff Kingsbury, in his first season, wasn't too shabby.
That offense kind of worked.
Cuyler Murray was really good.
They made the right call by trading Josh Rosen and drafted Cuyler.
Murray now they got hop.
So we'll see how Arizona looks next year, that's gonna be a stacked NFC West Arizona, Seattle, San Francisco, and then the Rams.
Who and all right, so those are my thoughts on Nuke DeAndre New cop kins.
Why? I don't know.
Houston, why did you do this? Houston, you have a problem.
So now they're left with.
Who are the receivers now? Now you got Kenny Stills, Kiki Cootie and the off injured Will Fuller.
Oh, without Hopkins means up bad.
I'm just trying to figure out the why.
Means David Johnson gonna rush for 1600 yards this year is gonna score 15 touchdowns.
Is there something that Bill O'Brien knows that we don't know about him? I don't know.
It was in my thoughts.
And Hopkins a major, infect you with Fox Sports.
The Gambler Eagles inside over there.
You can check me at five o'clock when I heart radio Fox sports again where you can check out the stream or if you're in Philadelphia.
Uh, you know, on the radio, dial one of 2.
F m or 14 80 AM so I'll be on at five o'clock was showing Brace on the daily ticket, discussing the DeAndre Hopkins straight and all these other moves that have happened in the NFL.
Lots going on in this Monday and then.
It's a busy Monday because there's been nothing going on the sports.
CNN's been depressing, so at least we have something to talk about.
Adrian, thank you.
