What's going on? Michael? Thanks for having me then.
00:01:28
Oh, man.
00:01:30
Uh, we got it.
00:01:31
We have a couple of questions in the mail bag, but something popped up today during the my reading and my time on Twitter.
00:01:44
My friend Paul Esten junior.
00:01:47
A lot of people out there in jets land know him as boy Green, uh, suggested that the Jets could get Odell Beckham Jr from Cleveland.
00:02:00
What do you think about that? You know what? What? It's timeto have me on the show with all these rumors going on about O B J.
00:02:08
I mean, it never gets never gets old.
00:02:10
Really? No.
00:02:12
Let me say it like this, You know, if it's just Oh BJ the player.
00:02:16
Well, then, yes.
00:02:17
You know, I have to consider it, but O b say that persona is definitely gonna be coming along for the ride.
00:02:22
And that's gonna give me probably some reservations, you know, then there's a lot of questions, you know? What, the compensation, It even smart, You know that.
00:02:29
Perhaps not be able to address other issues like your offensive line because of the compensation you have to give up.
00:02:35
And what happens when overseas not happy? It's even.
00:02:38
Good percent was even good for Baker last year.
00:02:42
I mean, bigger ****s came to regret.
00:02:44
So after going through most things in contemplating what would oh BJ look like on the Jets? For me personally, I'm gonna have to give it a hard now.
00:02:53
I mean, do I want somebody who's known for distraction? Someone who seems to care more about his cleats in the game of time? No, they're throwing temper tantrum.
00:03:02
Andrew proposes to inanimate objects, even though I think we can both agree That was pretty hysterical.
00:03:07
Yes, then through his former quarterback under the bus and now apparently wants out of his new team.
00:03:12
I mean, Sandy's playmakers, but I don't think you need to clean maker.
00:03:15
That's going to create discord.
00:03:16
Whenever she doesn't get what he wants, that's I can see that.
00:03:22
But from my perspective, I don't see the Jets taking a wide receiver with the first round pick.
00:03:29
So as long as it's not a first round pick, they have to give up and and they can get the just the on field stuff.
00:03:39
Without the antics, I might take him for a second round pick, but I could see the point where people wouldn't want O b J the O P j.
00:03:50
But if we if we could just get Odell Beckham, the on the field guy who produced for the Giants, that would be great.
00:03:58
But like he said it, we don't know what if we could separate O B J from the baggage.
00:04:05
I mean, I mean, why wouldn't anybody want more the best wide receiver in the week? Except he doesn't have, you know, this kind of elements of his kids, no persona his game that at times really crazy faction.
00:04:17
But I think you know, Sam being the young quarterback that he had, I think it could really create some issues and I think because of that, and only because of that, not because of the player I mean well, don't welcome.
00:04:29
But, you know, for Sam being as young as you haven't even now, playing with bigger and and just being on the sidelines sometimes like a cow wanted things probably happy to be there.
00:04:39
And I questioned how good that would be. Future.
00:04:41
I mean, I hear what you're saying for a second round pick.
00:04:43
I mean, how do you half on Odell Beckham for a second round pick? Don't even need, You know, with all these reservations, I have like, Oh, you know, you could have gone back for a second round pick.
00:04:53
Oh, man, you know, I have to think long and hard about that one, and I got to be honest.
00:04:58
I might actually, in the particular situation, go for it.
00:05:02
But you know, I can't itself.
00:05:04
It's a situation.
00:05:05
I don't think you'll Doug, let's go for it.
00:05:07
I think Joe Douglas is really serious about guys with high character and people who are really team first and hoping they definitely shown that he is more of the guy that got more often than not.
00:05:19
That's what? That's what Scott Mason said to me when I brought it up to him today on Twitter, he said, Joe Douglas doesn't want him.
00:05:26
Adam Gaze doesn't want him, so there's no point in even entertaining it.
00:05:31
So, um, but I threw it out there.
00:05:35
I threw it out there, toe thio to him to see what his opinion would be.
00:05:39
Because I I trust Scott's opinion, Uh, almost all right into the man.
00:05:48
Now it's time for the mail bag.
00:05:52
And let's start with Lord Lefty at Bob Stumpy one in your opinions.
00:06:00
Where does inside Interior offensive line ranking importance this offseason in comparison to positions like wide receiver and defensive back? Um, for me interior offensive line? It would be if it was offensive tackle.
00:06:18
It would be above wide receiver and defensive back.
00:06:22
But like I said when we talked about Odell Beckham Jr.
00:06:26
I have the Jets taking a wide receiver in the second round.
00:06:30
If he falls and as Brandon I yuk and that would mean I would put wide receiver above Garden Centre this offseason.
00:06:40
However, if you're talking about the entire off season, I would put interior offensive line in the free agent market above wide receiver and defensive back because we could.
00:06:57
It's a deep draft class at wide receiver and they consign.
00:07:05
They consign Byron Jones potentially who is probably gonna leave Dallas.
00:07:10
So it would be on par with defensive back, but it would be above wide receiver in free agency, but below wide receiver in the draft.
00:07:19
Yeah, I hear what you're saying.
00:07:20
I mean, for me, you know, offensive line is by far the most pressing issue.
00:07:25
And, you know, I think that in your offensive line in our being are pretty much D.
00:07:30
D is just as important as the outside, you know, with guards and centers have to do as much as they do in today's NFL, especially with the interior pass rush becoming as prevalent as it is.
00:07:40
I kind of think this like our cake philosophy that maybe it's your offensive Linemen are really worked up a day like that.
00:07:46
Ideology really needs to be like throwing out the window.
00:07:50
When you look at the Super Bowl this past year and you see like supporting honors, you have a really solid offensive line, but a little weaker on the interior.
00:07:59
I mean you saw with somebody like Chris Jones did in that game.
00:08:02
I mean, you have it on that.
00:08:03
It's your offensive line on some people even made the case that he could possibly be or should be, the envy of the Super Bowl.
00:08:10
So when you have people like that were in the NFL and these interior guy, that's why I didn't like the just even drafted Quinn.
00:08:15
It's potentially have a guy like that.
00:08:18
So when you see those guys emerging, I just feel like I owe.
00:08:21
Well is really becoming just as important, the other guy's offensive line and particularly center.
00:08:25
I feel like after blindside tackle center is probably the most important position on the entire offensive line with the pre snap read and communicate with the offensive lineman. Identify.
00:08:35
Decide that I need.
00:08:36
There's nothing like having a really solid center, the introductions.
00:08:39
So you know, and I get it.
00:08:42
You know, I understand why people would want wide receiver, you know, where cornerback on edge over 1,000,000.
00:08:47
I well, but this particular walks even with this particular team.
00:08:51
I mean, that's the main priority, you know, I mean for me, and I think it should be for the Stephanie.
00:08:55
What is It wouldn't matter if you have a stud wide receiver if you don't have time to throw the ball.
00:09:01
So even so last year, withdraw the Anderson how many times he got open, But Sam couldn't get on the ball because he just didn't have the time.
00:09:07
So if you're a friend of mine, I'm gonna help get you that extra time.
00:09:11
I think that's the way to go.
00:09:12
I mean, for me personally.
00:09:14
We were spoiled as fans when we went from a Y two mangled, and now we see what it's like without without that top tier or even middle of the road center.
00:09:25
Because Jonathan Harrison isn't even like a mediocre center.
00:09:28
He's an okay center, but he's not.
00:09:30
He's nowhere near Nick Mangold.
00:09:33
He's nowhere near Kevin Malalai, who is now who's down the Hall of Fame, and I definitely see your point.
00:09:41
But when it comes to the entire off season, it depends on it depends on what point in the off season we're at, because, ah, we, we don't have to focus on interior offensive lines so much in free agency because we can get good interior offensive lineman in in the on day two of the draft.
00:10:04
So when it comes to the I, frankly, with that, I like I agree with that.
00:10:10
But you know, at the same time, it's like it's not a foregone conclusion that these draft takes are even gonna work out.
00:10:16
And even a first round draft.
00:10:17
They might end up being a bus.
00:10:18
Yes, that's why I think, you know, when it comes to the off season, I really feel like they need to attack offensive lineman in free agency.
00:10:25
And if it was up to me, they would come.
00:10:26
I'm going into the draft.
00:10:27
They would have at least two or three guys penciled into starters.
00:10:32
And I'm not talking like Alex Louis prima Donna who? I might even bring back Alex Louis on a backup level contract.
00:10:38
I'm talking like movie bona fide orders people that have proven players.
00:10:41
You could really fortify that wall for Sam.
00:10:44
You know any combination of any three guys, my dream scenario, which is probably a likely cause you're competing with The retort of things would be like a Conklin classed out to Phoenix, but realistically I could see them bringing back Beecham maybe getting a to me or even a Glass Scout, your feeding and that really kind of like attacking a draft in the first and second round.
00:11:06
Like with, uh, I think when they went this particular route, then they would have a lot more options come that they brought back feature to have a lot more outfits at 11.
00:11:15
They work stuff to them because it's not.
00:11:17
The position is really more of a right tackle.
00:11:19
So they could plug in Mr Right Tackle when they could have beat him on the left side and then come to a second round.
00:11:24
If a guy like more question buried there, you grab Christian very plugging that right.
00:11:28
Guardian glass overto center for a year, just awhile.
00:11:31
Cushion.
00:11:32
Very kind of alchemy to the NFL because he wasn't the lead communicator for Ellis.
00:11:35
You kind of like something similar to what the lines that was dragging out two years ago within the glass Galatea center for a year before putting it back guard this past year and ragged out back to center.
00:11:47
So I I you know, man, offensive line is so important for me, but hey, I'm coming into 1/3 year, I would really I'm just really apprehensive about not finding the right amount of guys on etcetera because it is There are some good guys in the second or third round, but I'll be really 100% sure that they're gonna be starters.
00:12:06
I mean, nobody knows.
00:12:09
Yeah, it that the draft is a crapshoot.
00:12:11
I agree with that.
00:12:13
And as far as the entire offensive line, I definitely definitely want offensive lineman.
00:12:20
But free agency for the Jets is a crapshoot, too, because we don't know because the one thing good that came out of this Odell Beckham Jr story is that's somebody that wants to play in New York want wants to play for the Jets.
00:12:41
So maybe Maybe maybe there's some hope there that the Jets haven't completely ruined their image to the point where players might actually want to come as free agents, Who knows? But maybe that's a sign, potentially, that players actually might want to play here.
00:13:05
So, um, Brandon, how are not the fact that actually actually the positive about you know, the fact that L B.
00:13:11
J would want to come play for the Jets by me? Yeah, I hear you on that, because there is a kind of notion out there that this isn't really a great place to, you know, to play.
00:13:22
And it looks like there are you don't premier players out there who think differently and that I think that is a big pot for sure.
00:13:30
All right, next question.
00:13:31
And the last question comes from Brandon Howard at Rock.
00:13:36
The Jets fan R O. C.
00:13:38
The Jets fan.
00:13:40
Where should teams draw the line between aiding development of current players versus saving for the future? For example, should a non contending team like the Jets trade for an older wide receiver and help if it helps their young quarterback? Or should they trade for an old pass rusher if it helps the development of their defensive backs? Uh, this is a tough one for me because it largely depends on who you're talking about and as Faras trading for an old pass rusher.
00:14:18
No, I'm not in the current Jets situation.
00:14:23
I would not trade for anybody.
00:14:26
I'm not giving up assets two for for development.
00:14:31
Uh, I'm well willing to roll the dice in the draft, and I'm not trading anybody.
00:14:37
However, when it comes to signing a wide receiver like Emmanuel Sanders, potentially coming from San Francisco.
00:14:48
It depends on price.
00:14:50
Depends on who it is.
00:14:51
Depends on fit.
00:14:53
Uh, I think we when it comes to aiding the development of the current players, there's only really one person who you can really say needs aid and development.
00:15:07
And that's Donald.
00:15:08
And the only way you can do that is by providing him with an offensive line and weapons and maybe maybe, Ah, getting signing, Ah, assigning a wide receiver.
00:15:22
But in this particular instance, I would not trade for anyone.
00:15:29
I couldn't agree more.
00:15:30
I think in the situation that that's are in right now with not really contenders, I think it's definitely better to hold on to those draft picks.
00:15:37
You know, even some of these guys that you bring in there on a one or two year rental.
00:15:41
And he drafted.
00:15:42
Can you realistically play play for you for four plus years? And they're on a rookie contract? No, I much rabid them go throughout its free agency.
00:15:49
Kind of like what Joe Douglas did in 2017 with the Eagles when he brought in outside Jeffrey I think it looks like on a one year, $40 million deal.
00:15:56
Of course, it's like you said, there are situations where even when we're not possibly contenders, I I would do what I think back in 2015 when we, uh they brought in Brandon Marshall for 1/5 round pick for a late round pick.
00:16:09
You get somebody of that caliber.
00:16:11
Now, that's something.
00:16:12
I gotta take a step back and be like, You know what? This could actually work.
00:16:15
Is there a player like, like that out there, that GI System and somebody who they would like it.
00:16:20
There is so that kind of compensation, you know, I might consider it put in general, in a general sense.
00:16:25
Yeah, I'd have to agree with you and say no, but for a contending team, I mean, it makes all the sense in the world.
00:16:31
Like when the Jets in 2009 brought in Bruin average for 1/3 of this round pick and in 2010 foreign Santonio Holmes for fifth round pick.
00:16:39
Even this past year, when the 40 Niners, when they really hit their stride, we're about seven to know, they said it wasn't working out, and they really wanted to prevent that off them.
00:16:50
They made a trade for Emmanuel Sanders for 35th round pick because they were really on the cost of something great.
00:16:55
So in that particular situation, yeah, absolutely.
00:16:58
But I'm even next year for some reason.
00:17:00
You know what was in the 40 Niners were for 12 years, you know? Who would have thought you'd be playing in the Super Bowl this year? For some reason, the Jets, all of a sudden next year following season are five and one.
00:17:11
Miraculously, you know what? Let's pray on that and all of a sudden, now then let's go.
00:17:15
We're contending.
00:17:17
If there's somebody out there who could really help Sam out and help this offense get to the next level, then I would consider it as well.
00:17:23
But right now, presently speaking, the way the team is constructive, you gotta hold on to those draft picks. Absolutely.
00:17:29
Because offense offensive line.
00:17:32
If you could trade, maybe for an offensive lineman, I might consider it, But nobody's trading.
00:17:39
They're they're good offensive lineman.
00:17:40
At this point, they're too far there, too few and far in between that, you're not gonna get a good a good one.
00:17:49
Unless you're giving up a whole Ah, whole lot.
00:17:51
So well, that's Ah, that's going to wrap up the mailbag today, Joe.
00:17:58
Where can people find you on? They could find me on Twitter at Joe Jet underscored five and writing articles for a turn on the jets dot com Weekly How they find their as well.

00:18:10
All right, Thanks for coming on, Joe.
00:18:14
Michael Madison.
00:18:15
Really awesome.
00:18:16
Thanks for having me in a talkie.
00:18:18
Yep.
00:18:20
