Okay, once again. Good afternoon.
Walking through the sports talk would carry with my show.
Forget once again. Good afternoon.
What? Um, Wednesday, February 12 we're gonna be previewing this weekend's college baseball l s u The first off l s u will take on the nd an Indiana Hoosiers This coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, three game series with, um, the the Indiana Hoosiers.
L s u we will be reviewing, um, throughout this hour, we'll be previewing the game and I'll be giving my take on the So we'll have some video clips from the young from the L s U baseball.
Um, media days will have, um, coach binaries discussing this weekend's rotation with the with Indiana.
So we'll have that today.
So let's go ahead and begin.
I would bomb our, um, show us began.
I'm going to Paul Maneri.
Pulmonary announced the weekend rotations for this weekend's gained with the Indiana Hoosiers.
So this is we'll go ahead and begin way in that.
Will you let me say we'll see where he was in here.
We want second c was in the air, so let's go ahead and begin.
Um, doing that Paul Menagerie, I will have a palm Inari.
Oh, also have landed.
I'm also also que Bella.
So talking about this weekend's game So it's go ahead and preview that so we could see if we get the video.
Okay, um, rotations for today.
This weekend's Siri's cold hander will begin will be the picture this weekend.
Hey, will start also, um, land him also will, um, also starting Also a J laborers will start on Sunday.
So that's, um, the lineups for the pitching rotation this weekend.
LF you versus Indiana.
So let's go ahead and see what else we need to talk about here with a preview in L s U baseball.
So I'm gonna go ahead and give you a video breakdown of this game, So let's go ahead.
And, um but the video one this is from Tiger TV talks about the key players in opening day, so we'll give you that.
Henry Saturday afternoon will be landed.
Marceau and Sunday will be a J labors.
What went into deciding it's just a It's just that they're both so close in abilities, it could have very easily been the other way around But I just thought, you know, we ended this season last year with Henry, number one and Marceau, number two marshals kind of got a little bit of that big game experience on.
I just thought, you know, they gained two is such a pivotal game in a weekend Siri's that we ought to go with a guy that had a little bit more experience.
And so that's where we're going with plan A Marceau second, a couple of weeks, people do it.
I'll be honest with you.
Look, I think landing more so hey, will, he won't be starting this weekend.
Also cold Henry.
So that's gonna be the key starters right there.
Also Adri laborers.
Look, I'm expecting a lot out of bond.
These three be some three pitchers right here for L s U.
Because, look, last season on, they did not make it to the College World Series.
Say they lost in the Super reads in the last year.
But I'm expecting a good year.
I did this out of this pitching staff.
I'm absolutely expecting a lot.
So let's get back to what Coach Maneri was talking about.
Yeah, so I can't give you a lineup because honestly don't know what the lineup will be.
I did talk to their coach today, and he told me who was starting for them, but he didn't know which order they have one left handed starting pitcher.
That would be a factor that would play into it and if whether he's pitching game on a game, too.
But what we have, Tommy has kind of come up with, like three different combinations of lineups.
Um, one of them would be the most experienced group that we could put out there on the field.
And I generally like to play the most experienced players on opening day because for some of the young kids they get here, they practiced every day.
But when they get here on opening night, there's 12,000 people on.
The bright lights are on.
It's kind of, you know, on eye opener for them.
But we're gonna end up probably playing at least one freshman.
If not to put us in a new player and Zach math.
It's so I think it's gonna be a little bit unavoidable.
But that's one line at a second line up.
Could be, uh, actually, there's four Lineups No. Three.
I'm sorry that that lineup would probably be our best combination of offense and defense.
The second possibility is to have our best defensive infield out there with our best offensive outfield boat.
Been sacrificing a little bit of defense in the outfield.
And then our third possibility is to have our best defense of Al Field, but our best offensive in field.
And that would be sacrificing a little bit of defense in the end field.
So, um, you know, I have an idea about who? The bet.
You know, the players.
The top 12 13 players are, but I think what we're going to see what you're going to see is Cem variations of the lineup through least through the first couple of weeks until we get a little bit more of a feel for what the best combination is it and we may continue doing that even after he's gonna continue to do that.
Not only does he have a strong arm, but it's a very accurate arm and he gets rid of the ball extremely quick.
He he can throw it virtually throw like a short stuff does with from a different arm angles.
If the pitches lawn outside, he's liable to backhand it inside, arm the ball to second base.
If the ball is, you know, a pitch up or down the middle, he'll get on top of the throw and get a little bit more juice behind it.
But whichever angle of his Army throws with it, he's extremely accurate.
I'm not sure, lady appear, that's what I want to hear.
Um, with these catches that we, um that we're gonna have maligned the Milano, that young man.
But they talk about malign.
Oh, look, he says he could throw, Ah, good on strike.
That's one thing we're respecting, as fans were expecting, like a set.
If we got runners at second runners at first, he's trying to steal second.
That starts to think that's the key, um, to getting him out, throwing that accurate throat and and and that will, um in that, um, base dealing that threat right there.
So let's get back to Paul Maneri Paulman.
Ari was talking about this weekend's game.
Gorski was his accurate, but I think Mila's has probably got a quicker release and a little bit stronger arm, so he's an asset for us defensively, and he's gonna need some time to grow with the bat like any freshmen would.
But he's, you know, during the fall, he swung the bat well.
This spring, it's he's not swing it as well as he did in the fall, but he's going to catch at least one of the games that weekend against Indiana.
If you know if it's souls feeling great and doing fine, he'll catch probably Friday and Sunday and Malaga would catch on Saturday.
But it's always been, you know, Dion had surgery on his thumb, and he missed a couple of days of practice this week with some tendinitis in that thumb.
We don't think it's anything more serious than that, but a couple of days rest Yesterday was the first day he had swung a bat, I think, since Monday, maybe it maybe was Sunday.
But no, we don't practice Sunday.
So it was on Monday was the last time he swung a bat.
So you know, he said, he has a tendency sometimes to get these little nicks and if that were to happen, we gotta make sure we get it very similar to the pitching staff we have.
Make sure you keep so healthy, and I beat him up by overdoing it too early in the season.
Cold weather school like this opening up guys probably been indoors taking groundballs.
Little gym floor.
How much that you're looking to? Well, the truth of the matter is, Indiana has had a pretty mild winter.
I talked to the coach today.
They've been outside several days.
Actually, they have an artificial turf field.
Uh, and then, if they are forced inside the days of taking ground balls on gym floors are over.
They have indoor facilities, just like we have over there at football ups.
So they're gonna they're gonna be well prepared and ready to go.
There's no question about it.
Um, you know, and Indiana has make no mistake about it.
Indiana is an SEC caliber team.
They last year, Michigan played in the championship round against Vanderbilt.
Well, they weren't the Big 10 champions.
Indiana was the Big 10 champions.
They're 10 players drafted off their team last year, and they've replaced them with some really quality players, their starting rotation or all guys that pitched out of the bullpen for them.
last year that had excellent years their athletic there.
You'll see what I'm talking about when you see him there.
All good size kids, physical, strong.
They led the nation in home runs last year.
It's gonna be a quality opponent.
So I'm not so worried about, you know, should we play the best defensive team because, you know, these guys are just coming out of the gym or whatever.
Should we just try to make him feel the ball by bunting on him or anything? We're just gonna go out and play the game the way we know how to play it and put the guys out there that we think are the best guys on a given day.
Some of the soft guys, this offer lasts, like being co do.
Guys, What do you want to see for yourself here? I'm gonna be.
Well, I think they're They're very crucial to our success, Wilson, that, you know, you like to see guys go from their freshman year to their sop****re year and make a big jump.
You know, Greg Dyckman didn't play much his freshman year, mostly because he had a broken foot and missed a good portion of season, and by the time he came back, it was kind of like Dugas last year.
You know what time he came back? We're in the midst of the SEC schedule, and it's kind of hard to, you know, have your spring training in the middle of the SEC schedule.
But Duke, but Dyckman and a sop****re year was really great.
And that's what you like to see out of guys like Bianco and and Giacomo and Dugas.
You know, guys that played sporadically, it's freshman.
But then they make a big jump in their sop****re year, and they're gonna be given every opportunity to prove that they can be the guys that make a difference for our team, and then they're gonna have to get it done.
Or that will have to try some other guys way.
Haven't decided the midweek starters for next week's shock on Dhe.
That's an honest answer.
So we're gonna get through this weekend.
You know, you don't expect your starting pitchers to go deep into the game opening weekend, so I have a feeling we're gonna be used in virtually everybody out of the bullpen if necessary.
And then after the weekend is over.
We're just kind of re evaluate where we are, who's available, who wasn't used that much.
And having to midweek games is obviously a challenge in itself.
But you know, our first midweek game is not.
Nickel sits Southern on Tuesday, and everybody around here remembers playing Southern last year and getting whipped in that second game.
So in no way we're gonna be taking them lightly.
I can assure you that What kind of information relative to what are you talking about? Like just the team in general looking Thio.
Fill those starting roles.
And next week, starting from now until then, we'll information to see after the weekend is over before the weekend after weekend's over.
Well, obviously, the first goal is to win the games.
You know all the games matter.
Uh, SEC games obviously are of most importance because you're playing for a SEC championship.
But the other 26 games are factored into whether or not you're going to be a host, whether or not you're gonna be a national.
See, Hecate could factor into just getting into the tournament, so we have to treat every game as though it's you know, an SEC game.
We're going to try to win and do what it takes to win within reason.
You know, I'm not going to send Coal Henry out there for 100 and 20 pitches on opening night.
So what, we're gonna But we're going to really need for us to win the games this weekend is for our bullpen to really You know, obviously you want your starting pitchers to get you off to a good start.
Pardon the pun, but if they give you 45 innings, you're gonna be pleased within their pitch limit.
And then it's gonna be up to the bullpen if you wanna win the games and you're gonna have to have several guys coming out of the bullpen pitching well, obviously need to score some runs also, and you need Besides holding the team down with pitching, you need to play good defense.
So you just want to see how quickly certain guys we're gonna you know, I've watched him now for several weeks out here, and then when you go into the games, it's kind of an extension of what we've been doing.
So it's not like I'm anybody's gonna be hitting the panic button.
If you start making changes after one game or two games in three games because we've been watching him for a month, it's not the first time, but you want to see which guy's gonna take their game to another level once the real games begin.
Zak Mathis ways kind of coming here.
His old situation kind of coming here.
I mean, you start this story a lot of media, and how cool is it to find beautiful day excited.
Do you think that you'll have to ask him? But I'm sure that he's gonna be overly amped, and I'm trying to keep him kind of calm down because he's typically a very emotional kid when it comes to baseball, He just loves the game and gives it everything he's got.
He spent such a pleasure to have out here.
Nobody works harder than him.
Um, he's got talent, too.
I mean, we had never seen them play when we recruited him.
Um, that, you know, the story has been told many times we lost.
We lost the shortstop that we thought was going to be here with us, and we lost him late in the summer, and so we had to.
We had to scramble, and Zach had originally signed with Cal State Northridge.
But when their coach was let go, Hey, don't want go there anymore.
So we knew he was out there on the open market.
We started calling all our friends on the West Coast.
The coach, his junior college coach, happened to be one of one of the coaches that replaced me at the Air Force Academy.
So I had a little relationship with him, and he told me that Zach was an outstanding hitter.
His defense, you know, was was OK, but not great.
Well, I think he underestimated Zac's defense.
His defense has really been good all fall, and this early portion is spring.
They've got a strong and accurate arm.
He's got good hands.
He could play third base or shortstop for us into a very adequate job.
But he loves to hit, and that's that's what he's told me throughout the recruiting process as well as since he's been here and he can hit.
He's gonna be our three hole hitter on opening night.
I'll look at it this way.
Yeah, we're gonna have we're gonna need.
All are like I said, Look, he's not gonna Paul Molinari is not goingto beat up one of their cold Henry because look, they're gonna need them for the midweek games.
And that's the big game.
After this weekend, it's gonna be Southern.
That's one thing they're gonna have to undo it.
Some solidified a pitching staff.
I mean, I think it's a good idea because look, that use everybody and, um, and the bullpen, because the be honest with you Look, um, if Indiana comes out swinging the bats and stuff like that and having a pretty decent inning, I'm gonna tell you.
Look, you're gonna need those pitches.
So what again? This is from Pulmonary was talking about.
Okay, Cale probably will be coming out of the bullpen, not the binary opening weekend.
Whether or not he moves into the mid week start to roll.
I can't tell you again because I don't know who's gonna be available.
But he would certainly be a candidate that potentially could be a midweek starter in the early part of schedule.
But you know, I hope I hope that when he pitches this weekend, he pitches great He'll pitch some at some point out of the bullpen this weekend, and how much he pitches could determine whether or not we would look at him and as a starting pitcher in the middle of the week.
So that first year, yeah, he really wasn't it quite himself.
Last year, er this fall, he was back to himself.
He was throwing the ball with good velocity.
Good movement is Curveball was tied again.
He looked like he did his freshman year this spring.
It's been a little bit slower coming for him.
I thought he threw really well the last two times out, but his first few times he didn't look like the old McHale.
Hilliard and I was getting a little bit worried about whether or not his arm was bothered.
But I just think it was one of those things that it took him a little while to kind of get it going.
What we've seen at him in the last two outings was very positive.
Uh, what is helping doing at place? House look good, You know, he's he's playing his usual defense and he's putting the bat on the ball.
He's given some good quality of bats.
I think it's taken a couple of years, but how has learned who he is as a hitter.
You know, I don't want him trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark because he's gonna not have success doing that.
He's gonna make a lot of easy outs.
But when he uses the whole field and handles the bat either with bunting or hitting, hit and run, he becomes an asset for us.
And, uh, you know, I think I think it's sinking in now with age and maturity and experience and all those kinds of things.
So, you know, again, like I said, we have different possibilities of the lineup and 11 of those pot.
Two of those possibilities include him in the lineup, and one of the possibilities doesn't include him.
So you can use your imagination to try to figure that out.
All right, um, but how is gonna be a vital player for us? And you know, he's been kind of a steady Eddie guy that, you know, the freshman year when Josh Smith went down after three games.
If it wasn't for how stepping in and playing shortstop so outstanding for us.
It could have been a really tough year.
Last year he played a lot of third base with Josh healthy and and his defense was a real ass, said.
You know, obviously we'd love for him to hit Maur.
Sure, the fans would love to see him hit more, but But how was how was always gonna be a very valuable player to our team? Whatever role is, Yeah, moderately improved.
I would say he's still not what we think he can be.
Um, you know, baseball's a hard sport to lay off for so long and then jump right back into it and be back to what you're used to.
Being at times, I feel like Maurice is getting a little bit discouraged, and I keep having to try to encourage him.
Um, you know, he's such a wonderful human being and obviously a tremendous athlete.
But hitting a baseball off, cool Henry or landed Marceau or some of the guys that were throwing out there is not easy and he's had some issues struck out.
He's probably struck out half the times that he's batted in these Inter squad games and it seems like every time he hits the ball hard.
It's right at somebody, So I don't think he's had a head in any of the Inter squad games up to this point.
Now, that may change this weekend.
I just feel like he's one of those kids that all of a sudden it's gonna click, and then he's gonna be a very outstanding player for us.
But he's still got a ways to go before he's gonna be a guy that we're gonna really count on.
I think I think it's just not seeing live pitching and might actually, you know, I mean, his swing is not as fluid is.
It was when he was in high school.
You know, he's not getting a little technical, but I don't think he's lose using like his lower body enough and he's not getting full use of the strength of his body and I think a little bit of that is mechanical and I think a little bit of it is just, you know, lack of having seen pitching and he's just kind of struggling to find it right now.
But I'm not gonna get down on him as long as he doesn't get down on himself.
Exactly How do you find ago You said you'd never seen him play, but yeah.
I mean, how do you get word of it? Is it that I guess that happen all the time? You get a guy like that comes from Yuko that can produce and being a three hole spot like this, like, right out of.
I'll tell you this.
He's a really good player, and we're very fortunate to have have him here at L S U.
You know, I you know, sometimes you know the best things happen in the wake of disappointing things.
It's just the way life is sometimes, uh, you know, we were very disappointed when the other kid decided that he was going to sign when he was already here, going ready to start summer school.
But as it turned out, it's probably been the best thing for us because otherwise Zach Mathis wouldn't be here.
And Zack might be the best all around player that we're gonna run out there.
Sometimes it just takes getting a little bit lucky.
Andi, I think we got lucky.
Uh, you know, Nolan started to use all his contacts, and I used my contacts.
He was first recommended to us by a collegiate summer league coach, a guy by the name of Air Coleman, who coaches the Danville Dan's in the in.
The prospect Lee, where we send players every year.
And so we called him because he's kind of got his pulse on the junior college world in California.
That's where he's from.
And so Eric knew about Zach recommended into us.
Then we started doing some background checking.
He had been drafted, they he was drafted, and the word we heard is they wanted to convert him to being a catcher.
But then when I found out what school he was at, I knew the coach.
Like I said, he had been the head coach of the Air Force Academy after May.
So I called, read Peter's.
His coach, and Reed had nothing but great things to say about him, and when we called him, he was on a trip on a visit to South Carolina, and he still had visits scheduled to Florida State in Texas Tech after that.
So you know those air for pretty good schools if you had l s U in there.
So we figured that there must be something to this, even though we had not seen play.
But then you, you know, you google him and you see you see videos of him and you say, You know, it's hard to tell for sure with just video.
It's not like watching football video or basketball video, but you could tell that he got up there and got his money's worth at the plate.
And I always liked that about hitters.
So, you know, we reached out to him.
Like I said, he was on a visit to South Carolina the next week and it came to Baton Rouge.
And then he canceled.
Is far too state in Texas Tech visits? Sure, it happens a lot.
It used to be all the time, But recruiting in baseball over the last two decades, I'd say, has become much more intense.
And you Not only do you have to see the players, but you see in multiple times, but before that they used to be a lot of just within the coaching for turning to you would call coaches and this guy called professional scouts and you get a recommendation and then you cross check them by talking to other people.
And when when you see that there's a lot of commonalities and what they're telling you, that generally turns out to be true.
But you you could never do your entire record ng that way, you know? But when you're in a little bit of a crisis management situation like we were last summer, it was late June.
We just lost our top shortstop recruit.
Oh, my goodness.
You know, we've got it. We got to do something.
But actually, what ended up happening is instead of just actually because their coach at at his junior college told me that he was OK defensively, Just okay, Like those commercials used just okay, I thought, Well, maybe we better get another shortstop and we actually ended up getting two guys to replace the one guy, and the other one was Zach Arnold.
Unfortunately, Zach has been beset by injury on injury starting in the fall.
It's carrying over into the spring, But once that gets back playing, which will be in about a month, I think that gives us another really good option.
So we'll see how it all plays out as time goes on pitching you That's a good way to put it, Scott, I'd say, guardedly optimistic.
But I feel very confident that it's gonna continue.
And I think some of the things that we've implemented that I talked about on Media Day with the motive sleeve with Cory Couture being so involved now with telling us how much a certain player can throw on a given day.
Um, you know, I think Alan has made some adjustments with what he's done with the kids were given a more recovery time than we have ever given him before.
I just think that it's it's going to continue now.
Listen, anything can happen on a given moment.
You know, you all you have to do is probably follow Kendall Rogers on Twitter and realize it.
Some youngsters havin Tommy John surgery of this school or that school.
It happens virtually every day, and there's some things that you know.
It's just, I guess, fate or whatever you wanna call it, and it could happen to us tomorrow could happen to us tonight, you know, But you feel confident that you're doing everything possible to keep them healthy, and hopefully they get enough work still to develop you know, in the way that they should develop.
You know, one of the things honestly that we kind of thought about was what they're doing with the football team over there.
You know, with wide receivers how they wear that device and they can monitor how much they're running each day.
The wide receivers.
It's like a GPS thing.
And, uh, you know, I was talking to Travis Roy, our strength and conditioning coach, because, uh, um, Daniel Cabrera had a quad strain during the fall, and I and I said I asked Travis, I said, This is gonna be an issue with him in the spring.
Is he not in good enough shape? And Travis said, No.
It probably happened because he's running too much and the muscle gets the TV on.
And then and then you have a problem.
So that kind of influenced me a little bit, too, with the pitching No.
One that arms, legs, you know, they have a certain amount of energy in them, and if you overdo it, muscles or that or the other soft tissue starts to give way.
So I feel confident that they're going to stay healthy and and pitch well, chatted.
You feel about? We're making well.
I was happy for both of them, and I think it's well deserved.
But I'd be much happier if they were first team at the end of the year, Uh below.
So had a great year.
Last year was a freshman, and I would expect that he will follow that up with another superb year.
Daniel Cabrera is obviously announce standing college player.
Hopefully, he'll have the kind of year that'll vault him up in the excuse me.
Vault him up in the draft, maybe as a first rounder.
So it's nice, you know, when individuals are recognized.
But I think our players know that the better the team does during the season.
That's the way that you get recognized individually.
All they have to do is look over the football program to see how that happens.
So, like I said, he's good.
Like he said, Maurice Sampson.
Look, he had some struggles, um, with the bat, But I'm pretty sure, um, he's going to get out of.
He's gonna get out of that funk, Um, and also, um, another thing is, Look, there's, um like I said, um, Gabe Ellis So that's one of the first ba*****ts for L S U.
We're gonna we're gonna hear from que Bella.
So in just a few moments, s o what? You he'll discuss what happened? What's going on but the beginning of the baseball season for ally shoes.
So let's go ahead and do that.
Um, well, get over it.
So we'll go ahead and Brivio little preview.
Yeah, we're ready.
Thio, look forward to playing Indiana this next Friday.
It's cool playing with your teammates, but it does get a little old no matter how hard you try to make competitive and stuff like that.
But we're definitely ready to play another team, for sure.
Right now, I think we're clicking right now.
Where you want to be Going into large season and getting started rolling.
We're looking very now very disciplined, played in attacking our pitches, which is all you can ask for.
We're looking really good power.
Yeah, I think this group position players a special because we have all the different types of guys we got our got our runners. You have power hitters.
You have people who could do both.
And I think we're really special group.
Honestly, what were your thoughts on making? It was It was pretty cool to see you get a look, a little word like that.
But I'm really not worried about that right now.
I just wanna raise the trophy at the end of June and the national championships on.
That's all really worried about right now.
But it was definitely cool to get a little honor like that for sure.
What type players and people asked about it.
Yeah, he's just a great guy to be around extremely hard worker.
He loves baseball, loves the hit, does everything the right way, and we have him here.
It is a great player and he's going to do great things for us.
I'm really excited for you, right? Yeah, He's brought definitely a hardworking mentality to our team and especially our hitters way.
Get after it everyday, kind of a blue collar attitude that he brought to our program.
And I'm so grateful that he's on our staff and he's helped us become better hitters and recognized better things on the plate and with pictures on it, get us out on and stuff like that.
He's done a phenomenal job what he's done.
That's what it seems like just right.
Is there one guy that you have great strides already in the spring? I don't know about You could just pick out one player.
I think everybody in our position player group has made great strides, especially Coach Smith, and that's what he brings the table.
He's gonna make you better 100% better than you were before, Just the type of drills we do and the type of things he brings to your mind and some of the baseball knowledge that he brings to us and he picks our brain, we pick his brain right back and he's helped us out tremendously.
I think he can hear.
Is that cable? Yes, sir, He's a really good, great coach, and I'm so thankful we have one staff I don't know about Joe.
Bring those two different guys.
You said that Indiana's like caliber team.
How do you do box against right? Yeah, any time you play a team of that caliber and really any team college baseball's good Indian is a great team, and I truly believe anything that Coach Mary says.
And when he said that there s to see caliber team.
We trust him, and we know we're gonna have to bring her a game opening night and the whole weekend to make sure we get W's that weekend.
So they're definitely good ball club, and we're looking forward to hearing play at home.
You're considered women a veteran, this young class coming and we expected.
I mean, I expect to see them.
What they've been doing are falling all spring.
They're really good.
I mean, everybody has nerves coming out here and playing for the first time, but I expect him to do great things for us.
And I know they put in the work.
So whatever results come from that, they definitely earned it for sure.
I'm excited to see them.
I got them off line and it was a Christmas present, actually, Yeah, it was a Christmas present.
So I think I've seen you with LeBron.
It seems like you got other guys.
I would say Dale has the best lights on the to.
Do you have some style? For sure, man.
I tell you, he's gonna He's gonna be needed in the veteran road.
That's one thing about Kate Bella.
So look, he's gonna be needed.
I mean, look, this is going to be a very young baseball team.
Um, but we got some veterans on this team that's gonna make this team better.
I mean, like like they was acting him about the SEC first team.
Look, I don't be honest with you.
I don't think you should be worried about that.
I think you should be worried about one thing, and that's wins.
And that's absolutely wins.
Because if you get on their worry about these on these on these awards and stuff like that, that's just gonna get go to your brain, and then you're gonna screw up, and then it's gonna be a very long season.
So let's go ahead and give you Indiana son to break down Indiana.
So I'm going to give you a breakdown on now, in just a second, let me get it over to the their baseball page.
Just get it over to the baseball paid.
We'll preview Indiana, we pull this up, okay? The Indiana who's just coming in? Um, this is some from Peter, uh, Dell Prime prime prime meal.
You can reach him at I and I.
You, um Hoosiers dot com.
That's Are you sure dot com? Um, let's go ahead and go over there.
Line. They're better in line up.
Okay, They're key stores that return with, um, Papa, the Indiana Who's with Eli? Um um, Dunham.
He was sitting 3 10 last year.
I was also hitting 29 um, eight home runs and 29 runs batted in last season.
He was a hit in 2 55 last season.
Um, he had 17 home runs and I drove in 51 or be ice.
Also, that next players that that we're gonna be focusing on is on Grant.
Hey, has, um he's hitting 2 64 I also, um, Drew Ashley.
He said into a B boy, he's hitting.
So these guys is that's coming in.
These players, they they're veteran squat, like Coach Maneri said they are.
I'm gonna kind of I'm gonna kind of compare them to, uh um they did their better there.
That's one thing.
It is a very gentle baseball team right here.
And I'm gonna tell you that they're like an SEC opponent.
That's one thing They're about? I mean, this team, this team right here, idea, Andy And whose is so I look at it this way.
They did win the Big 10 championship last year.
Um, but I'm gonna tell you.
Look, l s u is gonna have a very tough time against this scene.
So we have We have we have the arm.
We have to give it our of Bess out there.
So you don't want you don't wanna lose? Um, the first, Siri's and half, Um, when the next to Because, look, that some kind of I'm winning.
That's kind of cutting corners.
So you wanna absolutely win this series? You wanna win this serious? This is gonna be a very good team. Right here.
So? So I look at it this way.
Let's give you their, um, you break down.
Let's give you their staff breakdown.
I'm going to give you their stats.
I'm gonna pull up the stats in just a second.
Let me scroll it up a little bit.
Okay? On the screen.
So everything's on the screen.
Um, last year he was hit in 2 53 There hit it right here was Dunham.
Ashley? I dunno, man.
Actually, that's that's what They're better the best hitters.
They finished 37 23 last season, so and they fit in 17 to 7 in the big 10.
So there was the big 10 champions.
They got into the region, and I'm pretty sure they're most likely we'll get into a reason again.
They're at all hit with Matt.
He was hitting 2 80 Also, um, uh, Mac were on Gronkowski.
Hey was sitting 2 71 Also, Richardson returned.
He was hitting 2 64 Uh, also, um, they had some pretty good hitters.
So that was, um there are there only 300 years.
Was, um, Dunham and down Van Pelt Dunham and belt on Van Pelt.
Van Pelt hit 3 20 Ah, he had almost see Ah, He had, um, for your beady eyes, But he was sitting 3 20 but he had a, um um it's like a percentage of 3 20 but he also had an on base percentage off 4 14 They also, um, they also see, um, they also hit home runs this well, they had only they hit 95 home runs last year.
That's one thing about the Steve.
They hit 95 home runs last season.
They also brought home 377 or be eyes so they would.
They're very good hitting ballclub.
Get Bob, and they never lost their step.
That's one thing about the Indiana Who's this? They never lost their steps.
So I'm gonna say this.
What are pitching? Has to be on its game this weekend versus Indiana, because I'm gonna tell you they don't, but as much.
That's the thing about being a butt as much.
But they also could be, ah, perennial threat.
When it comes to stealing bases, they could steal basis.
They stole 52 out of 69 bags last year.
Um, they hit, UM, 15 sacrifice flies.
That's one thing.
Go hit balls in the air and that'll be a sock.
Replace fly, but they don't, but it's what they'll hit of the sea.
Don't knock and don't hit.
Um, they had 111 doubles on the season last season, so that's one thing they'll hit.
Doubles that mostly hit doubles will most likely hit.
They're not gonna hit much trip with into the gap.
They'll hit doubles.
They'll probably get, um, long base.
It's and long doubles.
That's one thing.
Don't get right there for the Indiana Hoosiers.
Um, let's say they do.
Um, let's say they do walk about a heart.
They walk about 279 times in games.
So that's one thing about it.
They're slugging percentage as a team is at 4 54 So they're **** good today.
Are very good hitting team when it comes to arm, because I can't coach Binary said.
They went 11 to 13 on the road, but they went 21 5 at home.
So let's give it with some, go ahead and go over their pitching staff on the pitching staff from last year.
Um, Andrew, uh, seal Frank.
Hey, had, um yet, um, see, had 98 strikeouts.
So he is He already was to 84.
Also, 10 of Gordon had a 3 81 e r.
That's one of their pitches for the Indiana Hoosiers.
And Paulie, Um um, I, um, built milk, too, and he had a 3 95 e r.
So his strikeout to walk ratio.
Hey, had, um 100 on strikeouts.
He also, um, on Lee walks 17 batters.
I also Connor, um man manos manos.
I'm trying to say his name.
Hey, Had 36 strikeouts and on Lee walked on 14 batters in his game.
So I'm gonna tell you they're gonna bring some good pictures, because that that that isn't blurry.
That is a cold weather team up in Indiana that is a cold weather baseball team.
Somebody seems to come from the north and south north to come down south.
Fun to play baseball as the reason why they, um I mean, they can't play baseball up in the young in the Midwest because it's kind of go up there and stuff like that snow and stuff like that.
So they come up down here, So I'm gonna say this This is a very good They got some very good pictures on 18.
They average there.
There you are, right.
It was 3 81 last season as a team.
That's one of the young reasons now in the Big East, let's give you the Big East stats.
They was hitting to 61 in the Big East last year as a hitting team.
They also was, um they averaged 33.
51 They also had 258 strikeouts and 55 walks in the Big East, so they kind of that kind of had their arm.
They kind of had some strikeouts and stuff like that.
He's a game by game results.
Last year, they played against Memphis that was opened their opening weekend last year.
They did, um, beat Memphis on the first game, but lost to him in the second game.
And, um, in the third game, they once said it, one that they want.
They they split that Siri's with Memphis last year.
They also played Tennessee, so they had some pretty good, um, competition that they played.
They also played nor P string.
They played UConn.
They played Oregon State.
That's another team that's another bus or team.
They also play San Diego.
That was and they played.
Kenichi is they played a team Micronesia, but they got back into, um, they played a Big 12 team and, um, Big 10 team and I wouldn't got back to the plate.
I won the Big 10 s o they played.
They play Kentucky is Wow.
So that was that.
So I'm gonna tell you, they had 37 wins, but they kind of 37 25 layers Season s o then they also played Illinois State.
It would Illinois Chicago.
So they place, um, they play some teams, so you're pitching game by game.
So this is a pitch in game by game.
We're showing you their pitching game by game.
So also the awards they had last year.
So? So I'm gonna tell you this is gonna be a robbery.
This is going to be a very challenging on baseball game to boot, but l s u hopefully L s.
You can come out a winner in this game this weekend.
Hopefully they come out a winner, but, um, nothing's guarantee.
So I think in this game, if we can come out, I have an effective pitching staff on by innings and stuff like that, and it have effective hitting and stuff like that.
I think we can win this game.
I'll be honest with me, but we come out looking sluggish in the first inning or maybe slug.
It's in the second inning or going, um, going south in the third, or whatever.
Look, that's gonna be That's gonna be because we had fatigue.
So So that's the thing we have to do.
We have to We have to minimize the threat we have Thio don't give them, um, walk.
Don't get them free passes on walk their battles.
That's one thing we can't be doing.
It's walking their batter's because you walk there, batters.
It's gonna be a long night.
L s u in a long weekend.
So what we have to do? We have, um, get strikeouts.
And also for the offensive side of the offense of side we have, we have to be a factor on our heading.
Because if you are, um, don't have an effective hitting, um, doing the young doing.
Look, they're just gonna get easy in and easy endings for there are pigeons there, So we want to make it hard for their pitching sale toe to get easy innings in.
So I think this gay, I think Ellis, you, um in the long run, I think Ellis, you can win on this.
Siri's right here.
They might not win the first game.
They might not win the first game, but I'm pretty sure they'll go.
I went, um, two out of, um, out of one game.
But I'm not saying we're gonna sweep him when I don't think we're gonna sweep.
I think when you get maybe, um, we don't know what we might win the first game on Friday night.
We might lose the, um, game on Saturday will get the rubber match.
So, um, so, once again, thanks for joining us here.
We're breaking down college baseball.
